Review Salt Water Creek Hotel - Helensvale

Sarah Watson
Most of our meals were good, however the kids nuggets and chips ($10) had 7 nuggets and 8 chips! We asked about it and the girl said it was up to the chef on the night and didn’t offer to check. The steak was supposed to be well done and was pink in the middle. The other meals were good.

Absolutely horrible! Yes it’s cheap for lunch but still not worth it! Food is not great at all. The young girls were lovely and friendly, however the old lady was just rude from the minute we arrived! She said abruptly and aggressively with no smile or any friendliness at all, “do you have a booking?” My daughter said yes we do, then the old lady rudely said to the young girl do we have a large booking? And guess what we did! Still not one bit of happiness from the old one!. They were turning multiple people away saying they are booked out, when they clearly weren’t! (Only a third of the tables were taken) we were there for 2 hours definitely not booked out! The old lady was extremely rude to everyone including my grandchildren and another elderly lady on another table who was just simple asking where the sauce was! She should not be in customer service at all! if you don’t like your job maybe it’s time to leave! I would hate to find out my staff were turning away perfectly good paying customers for no reason!!

Buffet is good value for money. Mostly continental food with a bit of Asian food. Dessert has its own table! Dinner is more expensive, but has expensive food such as prawn and salmon. Friendly and attentive staff. Clean and spacious dining area.

Have lived on the Northern end of the coast for around 20 years and never been into this pub. Our local was always "The Ox" but we decided on a change Pleasantly surprised ! This place reminds me of a country pub you used to see years ago , serving good honest pub food with no BS The staff were polite and friendly - nothing seemed to hard Still carpet on the floor and good, warm white, lighting so it did not feel like you were at a school canteen. I had the crumbed lamb cutlets. They came out on a plate of fresh veggies and the mash was recently made. As I love mash nothing is worse than going to a place that has used the same mash for days - not here. Bloody good job and all for $21 Great place and will definitely return - gave a five star rating because as pubs and pub food rates this place is a winner Thanks!

I wouldn’t even classify the buffet as food. The only edible thing was the watermelon and hot chips. We went there about 6 years ago and remembered the food was pretty good but went there last night and you seriously couldn’t eat majority of it, absolutely disgusting. Didn’t even have soft serve for the kids. Deserts were stale and yuk too. The only positive thing that I can say is that the staff were really friendly. I don’t often write reviews but the food was that bad .

The staff are lovely! A gorgeous young girl called Rose looked after us so beautifully! She was lovely! She made our experience so pleasant ☺️ I'd definitely go back just because of that.

We used to go there and it was absolutely amazing food, price, service was great. We went there last night 26th March 2022. We found out new owners well we were not impressed. No bottomless drinks No make your own burgers and only 1 choice of gravy. The food was either warm or cold. So I don't think we would go there again I'm afraid. We think the price has gone up, we didn't mind paying the extra cash for bottomless drinks.

This Bistro is a classic example of when not to believe bad reviews. Expectations of seafood and high end dining for the modest price Saltwater charges tells me that some of these bad reviewers just lack common sense. Read the ugly reviews about 10 minutes before I arrived for dinner tonight with 4 under 12s. I've traveled the world and eaten at many buffets, with Sheraton Hotels a firm favourite. My advice, ignore the bad reviews about Saltwater and try it for yourself. Our experience tonight was exactly as we wished it to be. Friendly, professional staff, clean and spacious dinning room, an extensive selection of freshly prepared food with something for everyone. This is buffet quality food at its best. At under $10 the kids said they felt like they had a 6 course meal, and they did for the price of a box of maccas nuggets. Thank-you for your hospitality tonight Saltwater creek.
Honestly this establishment does not deserve to be in business.

The Buffett isn't value for money. We arrived at 6.35pm tonight and expected a lot more.

The women who took our money showed us to a table that had just been used ( the restaurant was two thirds empty). She said she would set the table for us. Till this very second I am still waiting for her to do this. We had to go and source our own cutlery and napkins.

At first glance we noticed that half the buffet bays were either nearly empty or had slops of. water in them. What was there was boiled beyond its life and was tasteless and bland.

I bit into a roll that was stale and was more like a rock. The salads were bland. No imagination went into preparing these.

The 'build your own burger bar' had one onion ring and two empty bowls. Not exactly what was advertised.

The dessert bar was a selection of cakes that were obviously cooked or made some time last week. None of them were

Please give us our money back.

Sloppy and inconsistent. Go there at 6 and you get beautiful lamb shanks, lots of good quality prawns and lovely dessert. Go there at 7 and you get sloppy left overs. Lamb shanks are replaced with whatever they can cook up in little time, sometimes undercooked fish in spicy sauce. Continuosly have to ask whether more prawns will come out and when they do, they are half frozen and heads are black on them. Very inconsistent with their dishes. Service is slow, you wait half an hour before your dirty plates are cleared from the table and waiters are rude. Specially the lady on the front counter where you pay. Overall would not recommend. Price is very over rated.

Worst dining experience in a long time!. Extremely disappointed! The buffet was running out at 6pm. A lot of the hot food was cold. Quality and quantity was lacking. Response by management was even more disappointing - the Manager ignored us and sent over a duty manager or 2nd in charge instead. Response to our complaint was poor excuses and a rather insincere apology. Not recommended at all. Don't waste your money!!!!

All you can eat buffet cost $27.95 for an adult. Does have a good variety but overpriced. Good if your a big fast food eater.

Buffet Review. Went there Tuesday night 06/08/14 with daughter & her fiancée.
Food was excellent - so much variety - all hot & cold. Waitresses were so friendly & efficient in clearing tables.
Absolutely loved it - can't wait to go back. $25 for the buffet as much as you can eat - brilliant!

We stumbled across this restaurant whilst in the area. It was packed however they did everything they could to get us a table. The service was the best I have seen on the Gold Coast and the food was of above average standards for a buffet. It was reasonably priced and had a lovely vibe. Definitely be back again!!!

We are not a fan of all you can eat buffet, so rang to see if a-la-carte was an option. Although they do have an a la carte menu it turned out this is only in the sports bar, which is basically a gambling venue and not really suitable for kids (we took our 6yr old). He did his best to watch keno and learn poker in the 45mins we were there.
Food was quite cheap and plentiful but not very nice. Roast beef very tough, veggies (frozen variety) were watery & tasteless. My 6yr old enjoyed his burger. Husbands steak also tough.

Loved it. We went there a bit skeptical as it had mixed reviews but we were impressed. Good variety, fresh food the staff were friendly and good replenishment of the food on the buffet. Would definitely go back again

Saltwater Creek Hotel - Oxenford, QLD. The Saltwater Creek Hotel finds itself just across the highway and a side street from Movie World. That shows off good planning for the most part; inside there is a bistro that serves a good value buffet with a wide variety of foods to try. The food here is of a good quality, reasonable in variety and dynamics of going together and is plentiful. You will not have an easy time leaving here without being full.

It is a lot cleaner inside and has a more pleasant vibe than you would expect, it is spacious and the dining area is not overcrowded. Plenty goes on here: there is a gaming room, a sports bar and the hotel can be booked for functions of all kinds - going low rent, this would be a good choice. At the window there is a lovely view of lots of greenery around a lake, something quite calming to look at giving the feel of seclusion. Though the time of day could have been a factor in this regard, the television and music did not drown out chances for conversation.

The buffet had a good variety of dishes and food to try. Some of them were on the passe side, but the pluses way outweight the negatives in this regard. I did not try all that was there, but I did sample a good amount. There were several small bits for starters - samosas, calamari rings, chicken bites, corn chips (for a deconstructed nachos - they made a decent chili con carne to go with) and battered fish. All those were pretty good. On the other hand, I do not recommend trying the pizza - it is non-descript with a stodgy crust.

Other good foods there included the beef ribs which fell off the bone with ease (and many strands getting caught in the teeth), honey soy chicken drumsticks that also came off the bone and a cauliflower and broccoli au gratin. I managed to get some rice to soak up the sauce that the ribs were in. They have used some high quality meat for this buffet and it shows. The vegetables were good quality with the right texture from cooking and non-cloying cheesy sauce. on top.

The dessert buffet is generous, and there are plenty of sweets to chose from including fruits. The ice cream machine is a little way from the dessert bar. It is the swirly soft-serve ice cream familar to salad bars. So I had some of that choosing the chocolate ice cream and putting chocolate sauce over the top of it. Too bad there were not the sprinkles, jelly beans et al but what can you do? I also got a profiterol and a square of jelly to go with it. All of this was pretty good, with the profiterole being the best of the lot having a generous amount of custard inside.

While I did not have this as dessert per se, I managed to get one of the spring rolls during the stay here. It seemed odd to have the spring rolls at the dessert buffet until I bit into one of them; it was chocolate. The spring roll was still hot when I ate it and the chocolate was dark inside. This is the designated surprise of the meal, so I say well done.

With the excpetion of a couple of bits of fruit, that was me done and I enjoyed it immensely. Keep an open mind and this might be a good time for eating.
