This Bistro is a classic example of when not to believe bad reviews. Expectations of seafood and high end dining for the modest price Saltwater charges tells me that some of these bad reviewers just lack common sense. Read the ugly reviews about 10 minutes before I arrived for dinner tonight with 4 under 12s. I've traveled the world and eaten at many buffets, with Sheraton Hotels a firm favourite. My advice, ignore the bad reviews about Saltwater and try it for yourself. Our experience tonight was exactly as we wished it to be. Friendly, professional staff, clean and spacious dinning room, an extensive selection of freshly prepared food with something for everyone. This is buffet quality food at its best. At under $10 the kids said they felt like they had a 6 course meal, and they did for the price of a box of maccas nuggets. Thank-you for your hospitality tonight Saltwater creek.
We stumbled across this restaurant whilst in the area. It was packed however they did everything they could to get us a table. The service was the best I have seen on the Gold Coast and the food was of above average standards for a buffet. It was reasonably priced and had a lovely vibe. Definitely be back again!!!
Loved it. We went there a bit skeptical as it had mixed reviews but we were impressed. Good variety, fresh food the staff were friendly and good replenishment of the food on the buffet. Would definitely go back again
Saltwater Creek Hotel - Oxenford, QLD. The Saltwater Creek Hotel finds itself just across the highway and a side street from Movie World. That shows off good planning for the most part; inside there is a bistro that serves a good value buffet with a wide variety of foods to try. The food here is of a good quality, reasonable in variety and dynamics of going together and is plentiful. You will not have an easy time leaving here without being full.
It is a lot cleaner inside and has a more pleasant vibe than you would expect, it is spacious and the dining area is not overcrowded. Plenty goes on here: there is a gaming room, a sports bar and the hotel can be booked for functions of all kinds - going low rent, this would be a good choice. At the window there is a lovely view of lots of greenery around a lake, something quite calming to look at giving the feel of seclusion. Though the time of day could have been a factor in this regard, the television and music did not drown out chances for conversation.
The buffet had a good variety of dishes and food to try. Some of them were on the passe side, but the pluses way outweight the negatives in this regard. I did not try all that was there, but I did sample a good amount. There were several small bits for starters - samosas, calamari rings, chicken bites, corn chips (for a deconstructed nachos - they made a decent chili con carne to go with) and battered fish. All those were pretty good. On the other hand, I do not recommend trying the pizza - it is non-descript with a stodgy crust.
Other good foods there included the beef ribs which fell off the bone with ease (and many strands getting caught in the teeth), honey soy chicken drumsticks that also came off the bone and a cauliflower and broccoli au gratin. I managed to get some rice to soak up the sauce that the ribs were in. They have used some high quality meat for this buffet and it shows. The vegetables were good quality with the right texture from cooking and non-cloying cheesy sauce. on top.
The dessert buffet is generous, and there are plenty of sweets to chose from including fruits. The ice cream machine is a little way from the dessert bar. It is the swirly soft-serve ice cream familar to salad bars. So I had some of that choosing the chocolate ice cream and putting chocolate sauce over the top of it. Too bad there were not the sprinkles, jelly beans et al but what can you do? I also got a profiterol and a square of jelly to go with it. All of this was pretty good, with the profiterole being the best of the lot having a generous amount of custard inside.
While I did not have this as dessert per se, I managed to get one of the spring rolls during the stay here. It seemed odd to have the spring rolls at the dessert buffet until I bit into one of them; it was chocolate. The spring roll was still hot when I ate it and the chocolate was dark inside. This is the designated surprise of the meal, so I say well done.
With the excpetion of a couple of bits of fruit, that was me done and I enjoyed it immensely. Keep an open mind and this might be a good time for eating.
Buffet is good value for money. Mostly continental food with a bit of Asian food. Dessert has its own table! Dinner is more expensive, but has expensive food such as prawn and salmon. Friendly and attentive staff. Clean and spacious dining area.
Have lived on the Northern end of the coast for around 20 years and never been into this pub.
Our local was always "The Ox" but we decided on a change
Pleasantly surprised !
This place reminds me of a country pub you used to see years ago , serving good honest pub food with no BS
The staff were polite and friendly - nothing seemed to hard
Still carpet on the floor and good, warm white, lighting so it did not feel like you were at a school canteen.
I had the crumbed lamb cutlets. They came out on a plate of fresh veggies and the mash was recently made. As I love mash nothing is worse than going to a place that has used the same mash for days - not here. Bloody good job and all for $21
Great place and will definitely return - gave a five star rating because as pubs and pub food rates this place is a winner
Thanks!
First time here absolutely loved it, food was delicious🤤 great atmosphere. Definitely recommend.
The staff are lovely! A gorgeous young girl called Rose looked after us so beautifully! She was lovely! She made our experience so pleasant ☺️ I'd definitely go back just because of that.
