Great menu - which is a dilemma in itself!!Attentive happy, helpful staff. Try the signature breakfast dish - pulled pork, avo, poached eggs on crispy potato rostis You will not be disappointed or leave hungry!!!
Had Mothers day brunch yesterday. The food was excellent and delicious and service was quick and great considering it was busy. Definitely recommend any time. Happy customers!
For a place called the little elephant, it definitely left me with a very full and big stomach haha, definitely a worthy place to visit and bring your family!
Fantastic food and lovely cafe love the food!!
Would recommend it to my friends
Casual, laid back, attentive staff and best of all the beautiful presentation of food that excites all your senses
A great selection of food, that tastes just yum. You are made to feel very welcome as soon as you walk in. Highly recommend.
Great staff. Friendly and quick service. Great menu. Eggs cooked perfectly. Love this place
Interesting, appealing menu, good service, better parking than closer to the bigger shopping strips - very good. They have done "theme" nights in the past - exceellent food and a bit of added cultural/cuisine interest. Keep up the good work.
I visited The Little Elephant on Friday for lunch...OMG!!!!! I had the pan fried gnocchi... It's now Monday and I'm still thinking about it!!!! That and the sweet potato crisps on top!! Absolutely delicious!
So yummy the porkbelly sliders and i kept looking at everyones meals as they came out i want the liquorice bread next time im there hubby loved his waffles cant wait to go back and eat staff were lovely great place to relax
Absolutely sensational food! First time I had been and I was very impressed!
I love this cafe! I usually stop nearly ever single morning on my way to work to get my ridiculously strong cappuccino, usually in my smile inducing glittery travel cup.
The awesome baristas know my order so it feels like I’m part of a secret club where I hand my cup over and slid the money across the counter.
The coffee is consistent and amazing. It’s like your amazing baristas are punching angels behind the counter to gather their tears in my cup. I haven’t had a chance to try the food yet but if the coffee is anything to go by, it’s sure to be amazing.
Oh my! Your pulled lamb ciabatti was fantastic today. Great service as well. You'll see me regularly as I drive passed you most days.
Always delicious food and friendly service. They also accomodate food allergies.
Delicious Potato Rosti with Pulled Pork, avocado, 2 poached eggs and I added grilled mushrooms. Good coffee
too. Friendly staff. Parking good.
Today's specials were so delicious & the prices were great. I love this place & it's walking distance which is ideal
Great atmosphere with lots of seating indoors and out.
Staff pleasant and polite.
Coffees came out quick followed by meals shortly after. Everyone enjoyed there meals. I had scrambled eggs on toast with a side of bacon. It was delicious and the side of bacon was generous.
The breakfast burger and chicken burger were also enjoyed by others at the table.
You’ll miss this little restaurant if you’re not looking for it. Came here with a friend initially for coffee but the menu looked tasty so we opted for lunch too. We both actually ordered the smashed avocado with poached eggs, halloumi (instead of bacon) and added mushrooms to the side - it was nothing that we expected! For such a basic meal it really was delicious. Highly recommend adding halloumi to the meal. We’ll be back soon!
Fabulous cafe in Highett. It’s got prime position in the corner. Food was delicious I ordered the Mexican bowl and a coffee. Coffee was great, it hit the spot and the food was tasty, just what I needed on a warm day. Staff were lovely, friendly and food service was fast. Will definitely be back.
Went to the little elephant this morning and had the breakfast special which was a medley of tomatoes on grain toast with poached eggs, ricotta, prosciutto and micro herbs. Lovely combination of flavours, however the poached eggs were overcooked and more like hard boiled.. I also had a soy latte which tasted nice but the soy milk was an odd consistency (very thick and almost lumpy).
Overall nice location in the quiet streets of highett with polite staff and good ambience, however wouldn’t come back in a hurry unless I was in the area.
My mum and I were trying to find cute cafes around the area. I live in Cheltenham. Anyway I found this really cute place the little elephant. My mum was intrigued by the name and thought it was really cute so we went there. The presentation of the food was unique and cute and the potato rosti’s were amazing. Will come back here for sure. I saved the photo I had taken on a boomerang on Instagram so I cannot upload it.
I stumbled across this place about 2 weeks ago and have now been there 3 times for brunch. The food is delicious, creative and very reasonably priced. I have had the breakfast menu each time which is hard to choose from. All looks good. I’ve decided to make my way through it & try everything eventually.
I’ve had the homemade crumpets with smoked salmon, poached eggs, spinach hollandaise & macadamia dukkha. Yum! Honey pulled pork, avocado and two poached eggs served on crispy potato rosti and finished with hollandaise. Yum! White miso eggplant with trio of mushrooms & fried enochi. Yum! Next time I will take photos.
Chai is fresh & really good. Coffee great too! It is in a nice quiet stretch of road. The staff are young, very friendly and welcoming. The venue is modern and fresh, yet still feels warm and friendly. My one only complaint is what I’d call dance type music playing each time. Not my thing. I. prefer something a bit more laid back at brunch time. But that’s just me. That is the only reason I’ve taken one star. Otherwise absolutely perfect!
The little elephant definitely makes you feel like a big elephant whilst eating here. it fills you up so fast and the food is so tasty and nutritious. Top place for sure!
Tucked away, the little elephant is a nice cafe with great coffee, service and a different menu that will satisfy. The turmeric latte is great!!
A great spot for breakfast/brunch and lunch. I have been here a number of times for all of the above and always leave with a smile on my face. Quality food and great service.
Decided to try here even though there are a few not so good reviews. We were very happy we came. Friendly competent staff. Good food and coffee. Nice, bright decor. The weirdly named Dragons Balls are really very tasty. Well done.
The Little Elephant is one of those true, local businesses that I love to visit – just hardworking people, producing some great food. Tucked away just off Highett Road, Little Elephant is a fresh, bright and welcoming brunch venue. I loved how it was on a quiet street, giving for a much more relaxing brunch experience than the endless train noises (seriously, how do people live next to those boom gates) and the general hustle and bustle of Highett Village.
I stop here for coffee and a snack most Sunday mornings before taking my son for swimming lessons. Can't fault them and this play is super kid friendly (we've smashed 2 glasses and a plate now and the staff have been amazing). I'll be back for a proper brunch sometime soon.
Been here a few times and now and I love it! The food is great. Highly recommend the potato rosti or the croquettes on the breakfast menu, very tasty! Coffee is spot on and the service very friendly and efficient. Nice one guys. Thank you.
Have been here a few times now and its a great setting for brunch hidden away in a side street. Personally didn't like the lamb salad - not much flavour. However the coffee was nice and so was the smashed avo. I will keep going here and try out some other items on the menu.
Good food, had the Mexican.. a little small and pricy but quality of produce up there as well as friendly staff. Fresh fruit juices and nice coffees.
Always a pleasure to eat or grab a quick coffee here. The food is great, the staff are so friendly and attentive. It's become my go to in our area.
Ticks every box. Great service, excellent coffee and the food is wow terrific. You know you've found a gem when before you have paid the bill you are planning the next time you can dine there!
Cute little cafe hidden down a side street at the end of a strip of shops. Friendly, young and enthusiastic staff. Nice coffee but not worth the $4 price for a small one.
Sneaky little find! After a morning of house hunting and one of the real estates having a 'half price coffee' voucher (which turned out to be old - oops!) we were in need of a feed! Our 'coffee' was a self pour hot choc that was sweet and dark. But then the squid ink risotto was delish with a huge serving of calamari and a parmesan wafer (going to try that at home!) and the lemon in the Mary Poppins(?) scone was a perfect match for the hollandaise sauce. Cute place in the suburbs - if we buy nearby this could become the local! And the staff were super happy and friendly. Oooo and the cushions by the window - I couldve lazed there all afternoon!!
Nice spot for locals. I do yoga- if I have to...- but to eat the I do yoga dish I would travel. Seeds, greens and eggs. Light and good flavour combo. The Cafe has a modern look, young staff and good vibe. I'll do a few more visits to try the other dishes.
Love this place! Great coffee and delicious food. The staff are really friendly and fun too. They have some really cool and different items on the menu. They are also open Sunday nights for burgers and they are amazing - definitely a must.
Nice spot in Highett.
Friendly staff, efficient service.
Solid quality coffee and the food was decent also. My wife had the son in law eggs and I had the rosti. No complaints about the food. Not 'stand out' quality in my view, but tasty and enjoyable.
Came here for an early breakfast to check it out. I ordered the apple French toast, which I don't usually go for as I'm more of a savoury guy, but quite enjoyed it. It looked fantastic to. It was a big portion and had quite a bit of density, so it was a big dish to finish.
No music? It was odd to only hear the echoes of kitchen exhaust fans and my own knife and fork scrape on the plate. I'm guessing the barista read my mind and quickly realised there was no environment. Lucky!! Overall it was a nice little place. Pretty good menu also. Lots of locals and regulars getting coffee and the staff very nice and casual. Always nice to have friendly happy staff.
Oh yea..... Good coffee to. Always important at a cafe.
Good little eatery but needs a few tweaks on flavoring; the burger was regular along with cold chips, dont know if thats because it waited for all the dishes to come together. There was a sour twist to the avocado which made it funnily bitter and lacked coffees and teas with a punch. However the French toast was well-cooked and fluffy, with almonds that gave it a good crunch! Will be back to try the other dishes.
A great local cafe. Although they're far from quick to acknowledge you've walked in the door, the service is very friendly once you're seated. Very accommodating for prams and high chairs too. A good range of modern, healthy all day breakfast type foods, but specials that include more basic options for the more traditional! (Eg. Sausage rolls!)
Yum. Creative twist on the usual suspects makes this a spot on spot for breaky or lunch. I went there with a load of mums with bubs (and an annoying number of prams ) and these guys were super accommodating. A little out of the way makes it a good option for a non high st visit
I ordered the frittata to go with a latte. One of the best frittata's I have had so worthwhile returning to try more.
Staff were very helpful & friendly too

Tucked away spot, only found it as meeting friends there for breakfast. Great food and coffee, even better inside since it has recently been refurbished. Great whether going with kids, friends, young couples etc.
Great we love it and the owner always comes out and says hi to us and to our dogs. Good guys! Waitstaff remember all the orders. Great coffee.
GREAT coffee :). Why are people bagging the coffee? Seriously?? It's the best.... and they offer Bon Soy :) The staff are so friendly, we always end up chatting to them... and other patrons too. Little Elephant is like a little meeting hub. With so much on offer in Highett nowadays, this place is still great :)
Fantastic food, coffee and service. Very kid and dog friendly. Lots of gluten free options. Love this place!
Good food and ambience!. Loved the coffee and the jumbo boiled eggs!
The Little Elephant, to us here at Gentleman's Choice, represents a new wave of homely and inviting local cafes that are starting to appear all over Melbourne! The staff are friendly and the service is like that of Djokovic's, prompt and direct ( it's an ace ! )
The coffee experience , which is the primary criteria we critique at Gentleman's Choice, is definitely worth while, we' d recommend, even if you're not local, to take a drive and experience the long lost mother that is 'The Little Elephant'
2nd time here and Great local cafe with interesting and not pretentious menu choices.
Will definitely be back
This is really good.. I have passion for breakfast and in a sunny beautiful monday morning i had one of the best ever... roasted potato cake with bacon steak and poached eggs topped with a delicious (apparently house made) hollandaise sauce...soooo yummy.
I don't live in the area but i ll come back for sure!
Breakfast dishes were spot on. Potato rosti with smoked hok salad a standout. Delicious and unique. Genuinely friendly staff and gorgeous warehouses style light filled airy interior and comfy booth seats. Nice clean toilets and good music. Well done guys.
Enjoyable. Went for the first tmie yesterday and loved it. Really good coffee and food. I had the braised beans which was good, although it needs the optional poached egg. My friend got the burger which was great. Our waitress was really good, friendly, pretty dress and pretty smile. Would definitely go again but maybe on a Saturday becasue it was very busy when we were there.
Can't fault it! Great experience. I was suddenly stuck trying to organise a decent lunch for about 13 people with a minimal budget on a work trip recently in an industrial estate in Moorabbin.
I found these guys on urban spoon and I really can't fault them. The manager Conrad sent me the menu, we worked out a few dishes and he threw in some extra deserts as well. He was really helpful everything was ready to go as soon as I dashed in to pick it up.
The food was great, coffee was fab - it was beautifully presented and labelled, and the clients all commented on how nice it was.
Can't recommend enough! Great value for money and great service.
Wow, great coffee possibly the best in Bayside area, even roasted beans, resulting in good aroma and coffee that has been pulled at a good temp...
Food is rated at above average to good and very reasonable for its price...
Not sure about the inner north hipster retro fit out and accompanying children book menu... I can learn to get used to it I guess ...
Little Elephant hit the spot. We've been coming to the Little Elephant for 6 months now but more frequently just lately. The new menu and the staff are hitting their marks. The last few occasions were really enjoyable in that our eggs were cooked correctly and all accompaniments seasoned and cooked well( I know it sounds simple but not so easy to find these days). The same goes for our last lunch and coffee experience, technically great. The Little Elephant are getting it right and we'll keep going as they continue refining a great business.
Love it! Just moved to the area and we now go every weekend :) staff are awesome, coffees always great and the sugar they use is yum (cant remember what its called but its sort of like a caramel/brown sugar).. poached eggs are always perfect and their pancakes w lemon curd and rhubarb are great!! Just dont expect the usual serving style, as with evwrything with this place its quirky
:)
Delicious food! I have been driving past this place for a while and thinking it looks very sweet. I finally tried it for lunch today and was very happy. The interior is spacious but comfortable with cute booths by the window. We shared the mushroom risotto and the pumpkin pomegranate salad. We both agreed the risotto was the best we could remember ever having and the salad was also delightful and fresh. They do a very tasty soy chai (for those so inclined!), and as a bonus they use Bonsoy :-)
The staff were very friendly and accommodating, they served our group just before closing with a smile and assured us that we were welcome to take our time and enjoy our food without rushing. The food itself was delicious and every member of our group was happy and satisfied with he quality and price of their dish.
Well done
Fairly expensive. Wonderful open weekends. We are breakfast takers every Saturday morning The owner/ manager behind counter was very good seemed he'd run restaurant before. His waiters MUST be friendlier learn from this man, not like they are giving u yr meal at home. I don' t think the shorts, male waiter wore made the place professional. If serving 2 eggs please have 2 slices of bread, a little smaller than we had. Lovely bread though. Lovely freshly squeezed orange juice. Please check your range of fruit juices, not large enough as u didn't have first juices i asked for black currant & apple/pineapple, so yr waiter said. Just add a bit of greenery as a garnish please, looks more inviting. We did enjoy the meal and will possibly go back. Maybe you should enquire about all the elephants they had dotted around city recently, they have gone somewhere maybe one could go in your shop.
I'm really enjoying this place at the moment. The coffee is fantastic, the food has been delicious and the service is always prompt and friendly. I can't stop eating the beef sliders and have converted a few friends also. I need to get there for breakfast as I've only eaten lunch! Looking forward to it too...
Great little find, always tables outside for the doggie friendly types like myself and a great relaxed atmosphere for little and big kids alike. Menu is basic but ticks the boxes and if you add poached eggs to the "something without eggs" you have a 9/10 dish (no such thing as perfection)
Great local cafe.. A HUGE improvement after Gilanti (which we tried once and never returned to). Great for kids as has high chairs, cheerful interior and good kids menu. We found the food delicious, coffee and chai good and the atmosphere very welcoming. Love the cute features like golden book menus and elephant statues. Much better suited to the local demographic.

63% like it seems too low for mine, I live 2 seconds away and a few times have popped over whilst g/f was asleep and got take away to wake her up with breakfast in bed and it has always been awesome. I get the feeling 'Sofia' had something to do with Galanti, where tbh I used to get take away gnooci which was also delish. I'm happy the little elephant is local to earn me browny/BJ points.
Much better and busier than the previous Galanti! Good coffee and menu. Needs a few easy additions like adding fries to kids meals instead of hand cut real potato wedges - as most kids don't like these. Also experienced a bit of a wasp plague when sitting outside which wasn't very relaxing. Happy and helpful staff are great. Nice clean bathrooms. Menu is good but my lamb or beef slider on brioche was quite fatty and grisly. Won't order that again.

Delicious!. The staff are really friendly and the food delicious - the pork ciabatta = divine! Coffee is great as are fresh juices. Will keep on coming back for all of the above!
Best coffee in the area - and I'm fussy.
This little strip was begging for a coffee shop, and now we have one! Coffee is smooth, great crema, and good attention to correct milk temperature. I find the staff very friendly, but not too effusive. The pulled pork slider on ciabatta with jalapeños is sensational. Nothing is too much trouble.
Loved everything - decor and food both great - service was efficient, only one problem, the entire time I did not see one staff member smile, it seemed they were very unhappy, this made the experience slightly uncomfortable.
Fantastic place. One of the best cafe meals I've had in a while. Broad slightly different menu but very good prices. Breakfast all day. Fantastic service. Great light and spacious decor. Could not fault a thing.
A little tucked away, but worth the side trip if you are in the area. Coffee is pretty good but overall it seems to lack ambience. Great space and potential.
Awesome hidden gem. Great food, great building, go there!
An improvement on Galanti. Now a day time breakfast / lunch cafe. They have redone the interior. Lighter and brighter. Very child friendly. I am happy for this change in the local area but miss being able to walk to an early dinner and late night cafe. Hopefully if they are successful they will expand hours. Menu is a few tasty items. The polenta cubes were good and focaccia good too. The coffee was good but i am not a big coffee drinker. Recommended.
I didn't have time to enjoy the food, but the coffee was very nice and the taste the little elephant which isn't a fair price for its size.
Didn't like the music though.
But the location is excellent.
An almost hidden gem as I found it while planning my route for a walk with my wife.
Would like to return to one day to taste the food.
Only had the opportunity to have a coffee, chocolate almond croissant and a little elephant, all were tasted good. But feel the elephant was overpriced. Didn't like the choice of music. Would like to come back to try the food though.
This is out local cafe! It's been such a lifesaver during the lockdown as they kept being open for take-away only. They revamped their menu a few months ago and food is amazing with lots of variety and vegan friendly meals and their coffees are great too. Will, the manager, always takes the time to chat to us and tickle our son. All their staff is very attentive, polite and friendly. This cafe is very popular on the weekend so there could be quite long queues for coffees in the morning.
Great cafe if your looking for more unique flavoured dishes compared to other cafes. On a seperate occasion wanting something simple, I got the eggs my way (poached) with avocado on sourdough, and was delicious. Nice indoor and outdoor seating with friendly staff.
Absolutely deciduous meal, coffee and service. Rachel and Sienna were appropriately attentive, kind and hilarious. The Sweet As Bro and lattes were spot on. I've been here a few times and it's always exceeded my expectations.
Loved the coffee experience. Very nice staff.
Great local cafe with a really yummy menu and lovely attentive staff. Lots of cute neighbourhood dogs too :) I had “I Yam What I Yam” and it was so tasty! Need to come back and try more of the menu.
Such a great vibe at this cafe! Lots of indoor and outdoor seating, great location with plenty of parking, friendly staff, and the food and coffee was 10/10. Will be back for sure.
