Unplanned find. Coffee was average. Danish pastries were ok, we’ve had better ones. The grilled halloumi burger was exceptional - nicely grilled with fried egg, nicely caramelized onions & tasty avocado salsa - accompanied with generous & chips on the side, yum!
Great little cafe!
Menu is great with lots of choices. Service was great, we were given water straight away.
I found the staff to be very accommodating when we only wanted a small serve of chips for the kids. Meals were delicious. The zucchini, halloumi & corn fritters were especially yum!
We only found out about this place as had an entertainment voucher for it, but we will definitely be back to try other menu items! Thank you 😌
Great food, excellent sized portions and warm vibes to the place. The prices of the food are reasonable too!
Will definitely come back soon for more!
Came here today for lunch , hubby had the slider (delicious ) and his latte was great too . I had the almond crossiant and the infamous chips , the chips was yum . They have a back decking outdoor area looks comfy to sit outside in a warmer weather .
This is my favourite coffee shop in Highett. The barista is the very best in the area. Possibly in Melbourne. The food is good and consistently of a high quality. The music is alway low enough to talk and high enough to also enjoy. If you love the best coffee go there.
Really enjoyable family lunch - they have a big menu, which made it hard to choose! Service was friendly, coffee great and food very fresh & tasty. Hard to fault!
I had an egg Benedict, was one of the best I've had.
Tried flat white with coconut milk, not sure if everyone will like it but I liked it.
Service is great, location is convenient and environment is cozy and quiet. Pretty good overall, will come again.
Great coffee and a new chef, Fabrice who is experienced and well trained! Creative and understands flavour and texture combination. Will go again. Reasonably priced.
This place is one of my fav's! Such friendly staff, beautiful coffee, great food and welcoming atmosphere. Interedting chef's specials board. My fav is their smashed avo with bacon jam yummmm
It's the perfect local - good food, good service and good coffee!!
Great to bring kids here
Service can be slow when they're busy but never had a bad meal here
We Had Nice Food and Coffee. The Staff were friendly enough but we found the Service Was very Average. And although we enjoyed we haven't been back since.
Surprised by the brunch at this cosy local cafe. The place had a nice, retro atmosphere to it. The service was friendly, doing well with families and seems to have a few regulars. The food was excellent and at a decent size. The fact that my nephew struggle to finish the hungover pig says a lot. The coffee was on the weak side but it was still a decent drop of caffeine. Great place to head for on those winter mornings.
They had all the things that made mum and dad go "mmm" about some green stuff and bread and eggs on their bread. I brought so many $1 coconut blondies with my pocket money (all of them in fact). Can't wait to eat them for lunch
Lovely and spacious, we enjoyed great breakfasts with friends. I had the broccolini eggs which were delish, others had the hungover pig which had 3 types of pork and bacon jam which was amazing. The halloumi fritters also looked great and friends said were amazing. We were so happy with the food. Was only a bit disappointed that we weren't offered a high chair for the baby and had to get it myself, but other than that, everything was great
Fantastic breakfast! A real gem.
We had breakfast before, every single meal was out of this world. The service is great. we will definitely be back here.
Lovely cafe in a shopping strip in Moorabbin. The coffee was nice and the croissant delicious. I found the fritters a bit cakey for my liking but was served with a very generous portion of bacon. Something to check out if you're in the area but I wouldn't return religiously :)
Loved the food and drinks here! I would definitely go back again for more. I've forgotten the name of this dish, but it was absolutely delicious! Thanks for the great meal!
Awesome!!! Went this place last Friday, nice coffee and burger, quick service and friendly staff. Had a great time here. Love the graffiti wall outside. Will come back with friends again soon.
The food was delicious. I got the Zucchini fritters, which I highly recommend. They give you quite large portion sizes for what you pay. We sat in the nice little courtyard out back, which had a light shelter from the sun. There's also a car park right around the side so it's easy to get to. The food was amazing, as well as the service and the location. Definitely recommend trying out this place.
The place is so good! Local. Friendly staff. Quick service. And the food was just UGHHHHH DROOLS. zucchini fritters was great and the hungover pig with lots of meat omg. Just amazing. Full of flavours. Would go again 99/10
So happy they are Local.... friendly staff and what I can only describe as delicious ....scrambled eggs with Chorizo & Bacon served on sourdough
Coffee is really good - and served the way you order it (Strong & Hot) - Highly recommend !!
This cafe was perfect. The service was quick and good, although we got there at 2pm so we were thr only table. The food portions were generous and full of flavour. Our eyes were definitely too big for pur belly's and couldn't eat it all. And those fat chips, DAYYUM.
Great little cafe! Have been a few times when I am around the area visiting, and have never been let down. I am impressed by a cafe that tries to be a little different, and whether it's the coconut hotcakes or the red quinoa porridge, its so nice to see a change from the normal breakfast fare! Coffee is well above average, and service is always with a smile. Can not recommend enough!
Love this place. Been 5 times and each time had the same experience.
The coffee is good. Really good. I always order a 2nd to take away with me. The chai is real and brewed properly. The food is always delicious and exactly what the menu says it will be. I recommend the chicken burger and the haloumi burger.
My only complaint is that they could probably ditch the big table at the back for a few more smaller ones.
Nice environment, however Service is slow, feels understaffed. Too long to have order taken, far too long to receive food (breakfast). The food and coffee are the saving grace. Price is 'normal' and expected for this area.
I visit this hip espresso bar fairly frequently, as the coffee is always very good, and the service is efficient and amiable. The menu doesn't have a lot of vegetarian fare - even the smashed avo includes "bacon jam", and the breakfast items mostly include eggs, so a review of the menu would be welcome. However, the meals I have had here have been good, and the servings generous. The interior decor is modern and trendy, featuring chunky timber tables, counter and other features. There is also a courtyard (which I haven't checked out) which would be good for pleasant weather dining.
I come here quite often to get coffee and love their coffee! The service is good and they are speedy. I have also tried the fat chips, which are absolutely amazing and their brownie which is one of the best brownies I've ever had!
OMG this place is just amaze!!! Great little place in Highett! Really pretty inside! Love the interior and timber! Great service I was acknowledged straght away with a smile a seat a menu! Ordered the coconut pancakes and damn!!! They were very efficient and delivered my food quickly! The pankcakes were plated up perfectly and tasted better than they looked! All in all super happy! Only thing was it was quite dear even though the serving was generious.
Went there for lunch first time last week and it was really nice! I had the haloumi burger and it was delicious. Atmosphere was great for a rainy day and service was friendly and efficient!
Nice fund!
Highett is full of places to eat, but Public Grind looked like one of the standouts. Staff were friendly, food was decent and presentation was better than I expected! Didn't get to try the famous hot cakes so I'll be back for that.
The best place for brunch, a nice local place that serves great food,
The brownies are amazing, as are the breakfast blt and thick cut chips.
The staff are always nice and accommodating, however they did put ice cream in my almond-milk iced coffee (I'm lactose intolerant).
Despite this I know I'll go back because the food is worth it!
Was definitely hesitant to visit after reading the not so good reviews but I was trying to use up my Entertainment Book vouchers so I thought "why not". Glad that I did as I very much enjoyed the food. While the menu offers simple and standard cafe food, the flavours of the dishes we tried were spot on and executed with care. Eggs were done beautifully - my poached eggs were runny and my partner's scrambled egg was light and fluffy. Coffee was a bit hot but acceptable nonetheless. Service started off on a high note; we were greeted warmly, orders were taken promptly and coffee served shortly thereafter but the food only arrived after quite some time. The chef and the barista must be operating in different time zones. Other than the long wait time and not too stellar coffee, nothing much to complain about here.
Love going to this cafe as it has good scenery and the atmosphere is nice. I go here in the mornings and for lunch. I find the food to be delicious and there are many healthy alternatives to choose from!
Stopped at this little place for a quick bite to eat for brunch. I like visiting these Cafes mid morning, nice and quiet and can take in the scenery.
I ordered the zucchini and haloumi fritters, even though it was hard to pass up another dish that came with bacon jam!
The dish had good flavours but the fritters were lacking that zucchini punch. Don't get me wrong, they were nice, I just think they could of had more ingredients in them.
Really nice staff, menu was nice and different, had good style and cool decor.
Really good coffee. I only found this place as I was walking to highett station one morning. They looked like the only place open on an otherwise dead street but as soon as I walked through the door I was greeted by friendly staff. They seem to offer different options for their coffee like coconut milk etc and the owners (I think they were owners) were really accomodating.
One of the better coffees I have had in the area. Perfect temperature
My fiance and I lived in Highett for nearly two years and throughout this time we witnessed Public Grind become a small, local institution. While we now live in the Western suburbs, we will still visit this friendly little cafe when we are in the area.
When you walk into this cafe it is evident that it is run by people who understand the cafe business. With friendly, personable service and delectable meals, Public Grind has grown to become a number one spot in the Bayside/ Kingston area.
The presentation of the food is second to none, often served on wooden blocks. While the decor is okay, more effort in giving the interior its own identity will serve to bring more life to the inside eating area.
If its a nice day, take time to unwind and relax in the outside courtyard. Again, the decor is a little lacklustre, however, with good food and conversation you can easily overlook this.
Personally, the coffee misses the mark, however, the food over compensates this disappointment.
If you are in Highett (whether a local or visitor), you will be made to feel part of the family when walking through Public Grind's doors.
This place more than holds it own on the up and coming strip of Highett Rd. Quality all day breaky menu and coffee was supreme. My Parmesan pumpkin eggs on toast were spot on and the pulled pork omelet looked just as good. Lovely staff and a chilled place to sit and relax. Big fan! Burgers also are recommended...
Came here craving a burger and want to come back and try breakfast. Not the cheapest cafe but the food was quality so I don't mind paying an extra couple of bucks.

We wanted to Fat Bob's burgers, but they aren't open for lunch Tuesday :( Then we drove to Highett for this other burger joint, that was also closed. I know, the worst luck. So we just picked a random place within site and ended up here, at Public Grind. Chai Latte - $4Good chai, a bit grainy and too sweet though.
Fabulous Sunday breakfast. Perfectly cooked food and decent portions were great value for money. Staff are friendly & attentive. Very family-friendly with pencils & paper for the kids. Love the large room at the back which can cater for larger groups. We will be back!
I come as often as I can on the weekends. Great coffee and great food with perfect service. Can't fault one bit. Love this place
Outstanding all round. This is the place the family and I love going every weekend. Great food, SPECTACULAR COFFEE and most of all Ace service. Always greeted with a smile by the friendly staff and no matter how busy they are the owner always seems to find time to stop for a chat and a laugh and make the kids feel so welcome giving them Hi 5's as they walk through the door. Highett needed this.
A fine suburban cafe. Coffee: 10/10 - amazing.. smoothe and flavoursome.
Sass (staff): 0 - friendly and attentive
Food: 8/10 (mr. Bean - nice and tasty)
Drinks: 9 (strawberry milkshake - perfect amount of ice cream and strawberry flavouring)
Overall 27/30.. very very good first impression.. come for the coffee alone! Nice outdoor area.. a fine suburban cafe..
Look no further. What I look for in my local cafe: yummy food and coffee, quick food and coffee, smiling waitstaff, a calm, friendly ambience and consistency. If you're similarly inclined then don't hesitate to stop in at Public Grind.
When we decided to venture further afield than our closest local cafe we stumbled upon Public Grind and haven't looked back since. We've been maybe 30 times now for a meal or just a take away coffee and it never disappoints. The staff are absolutely lovely, the food is delicious (though, to be honest, we rarely deviate from our favourites - their bacon jam-smeared double BLT or the comfortingly priced granola), the coffee is so good it turned me from a tea to a coffee addict and, the cherry on top of the cake, it's super affordable. Enough said.
Aweeeesssommmeee coffee!!. Stopped in this morning for a takeaway. my strong, skinny latte was AMAZING. Fit out was funky. Happy to have found this one!

Good coffee. Coffee bit hot but not burnt. tastes good, food looks lovely will be back
First time in today. Very busy. Beautiful coffee. Never heard of the coffee brand but very smooth. Vegan, Vegetarian and Gluten Free options. Had an unusual Mexican pulled pork omelette. Absolute Delish
Great service, reliable food and fantastic coffee. Brownie is delicious if you're after something sweet.
FANTASTIC coffee & divine food - I drive 15mins for their coffee! Great to see such young business owners doing so well!! Keep up the great work!
Looooved this place. Went with the family for breakfast this morning... Kids breakfast options were great and just the right portion size. The food was great and service was brilliant... Oh and did I mention the coffee?... Best I've had in a very long time ... Great place... will definitely be back.
Great coffee, and I am fussy about my coffee. Also, my food intolerances were taken seriously and they bent over backwards to come up with food I could eat, even though it was Mother's Day and they'd had a very busy day, still happy to help. Will be back.
Consistency is key.... And this place has it. Highett has been lacking in a cafe that produced the same quality coffee every time and it seems there's finally one there. The staff here are friendly and obviously keen to make a mark on the local community and become a favourite coffee spot. Coffee is rich and strong... milk is lovely and creamy and as noted in the title... the quality is consistently very good.
Not bad at all. Different place nice staff , , who came up with bacon jam it's awesome! And the cupcakes so pretty but so bad for me Thanks for a great morning
Cool little place in Highett. Yummy avocado smash and fab fast service. Only negative was the noise. We will be back though, with the kids next time as the kids breaky menu looks great!
Been here a few times now on my many travels. Great service and well portioned meals. Keep up the good work.

What a gem. Looked at the other offers in the street, choose the fresh face in the crowd. What a pleasure to be shown friendly down to earth service, with a refreshing menu offer. The coffee is great, two Blends to choose from and both made to perfection. Specialty coffee and food in highett.
Fantastic!. I visited the public grind for the first time over the weekend and I was so impressed!!! The food and the coffee were absolutely amazing! I ordered the avocado smash and haven't enjoyed a meal so much in a very long time! The staff were also very kind and friendly! I will definitely be returning soon :)
Diner review. Went in for the first time today. Very impressed with the smiles all round and the way staff looked after my young children. The menu is different to anything else in highett. I had the inside out scotch eggs special and was absolutely fabulous. Not to mention the coffee best I've had for a long time. Fantastic
Impressive. The food is yummy, the staff are friendly & they have the best coffee by far.. Highett needed a new funky place like this.
I will be going back 100% very impressive.
A new addition to Highett. I think they're still trying to find their feet but I can see it improving quickly... its definitely worth a try. Great coffee and very good service. The staff were very accommodating when a dish came out with pine nuts (to someone who is allergic), they quickly sorted it out without question. Might pay to ask when ordering if you suffer the same allergy. Apart from that, it was all good!
A great new spot in Highett. Have found a new place for coffee and great food just down in Highett Road, just next to the library, used to be Ron Lees Music Store'but is now a trendy new cafe, friendly staff and great menu at a reasonable price, strongly recommend the corn and chorizo succatash ( hope I spelled that correctly LOL), layers of flavour and a wonderful mix of ingredients, also check out the freshly made pastries at the front counter. I will definitely be visiting here again and recommend that you try it out.
Love it!!! Great friendly service. Place looks amazing and clean. Coffee is really good, food is fresh and muffins and brownies are to die for!!! Wow will def be back!!!
Best cafe in Highett by far! Food and service was excellent! Will definitely be coming back!
Beautiful Cafe!Very friendly service and the owner is sweet. Coffee and the food is so good. Will come back with friends!
Such a special lovely little cafe with a relaxing atmosphere and absolutely delicious food.
Love the food here. Always really tasty and reasonably priced. Coffee is usually quite good, but a little dependant on who made it. Still, on a bad day, one of the best places I've found in the area for a decent coffee.
Never seen it full, but I love sharing the big table with strangers.
Chocolate brownies are amazing and the staff are always lovely!
What a hidden gem this place is.💎
Lovely inside, coffees are amazing, and great customer service from the staff. Delicious food too.☕🍵🥪🍞
Definitely be coming back to this lovely cafe.
