Popped into the Pearl of Highgate on my way into work to pick up a cake for morning tea. There are so many beautiful cakes to choose from it's a bit overwhelming. I eventually settled on the pear and polenta (I think it's pear and polenta or it might be almond meal) which was beautifully presented with poached pears in the cake and dried pears on top. Oh my goodness. It was the most delightful cake I've ever had the pleasure to eat. Beautifully moist and light and not too sweet (I'm not a fan of creamy custardy cakes). Even the non-cake eaters at work were persuaded to try a bit and some went back for me. Seriously, these cakes are only a tad more expensive than the mass produced ones at a well known franchise cake shop but they are light years ahead in terms of quality. There is no comparison. And the service is always lovely and friendly. This is definitely my go to cake place. If it wasn't an issue with calories I'd go every day just so I could try them all.
My favourite bakery in Perth, and one of the best I've experienced in Australia. Friedly chef, consistently amazing food. Definitely try the orange cake and peacan pie. Breads are also exceptional.
Hands down one of the best patisseries in perth. The Swiss owner bakes his lovely morsels with traditional European techniques . The almond croissant and blueberry/rhubarb muffin are pure bliss.friendly service always and competitive pricing.if I wasn’t on a low carb diet I would be at this place every day .
Beautiful bakery. Fresh and tasty unlike other places you can get sweets that are just overload with sugar and no flavour. Good place and I will be comming back!!
Writing this review after my second time. The smell when you enter this place is just amazing..you close your eyes for a second & just take it in. There is too much to choose from so you would definitely return back for more. On my first visit, tried the almond croissant & frangipani tart..both were top quality. On my second visit today, tried the chocolate brownie, macadamia tart, raspberry & rhubarb tart and a slice of swiss apple. Unfortunately they ran out of pies so thats for another time. All the things I tried were exceptional, you could tell a difference between them & other commercially baked goods..these were made with a lot of love and care. I was searching for a good bakery since a long time..my search is finally over. Not to mention all the items are very well priced. Ive heard the Chu bakery is good too next door..havent been there yet but this would be hard to beat.
Awesome Bakery!!!. Ticks all the boxes. Friendly, small but options aplenty and clean! Most importantly the pies are awesome. Often sneak down here on a weekend after a good coffee and have breakfast curbside or in the park.
My go to bakery I don't know what I'd do without it! Staff are so nice and friendly and the price is good. Their pretzel is the most authentic I've had so far just like the ones I had in Germany and fantastic range of patisserie too!
I am so glad I came back to this traditional European patisserie. I tried about a week ago but had no cash on me, and had not realized that they do cash only. So whatever you do, come here with your cash, or you’ll go away disappointed. The minute you work through the door you know this is exceptional quality with good prices. It is tiny, but jam packed, and if it is your first time, you’ll need a little time, like me, to take everything in. It all looks good, so the choices will not be easy to make. Staff are genuinely friendly and willing to help out. I asked about their pies and they talked me through what I wanted, and I ended up with the chilli beef pie, sure to be a good warmer for this very cold Perth day. I also bought the raspberry and rhubarb tart, the orange and red current tart, an almond croissant, and a French crusty bread.
The pie was perfect with a nice flakey pastry and a moist beef filling with just the right amount of chilli. The two tarts were also very good, not too sweet, but just right with plenty of the fruit berry flavours. Again the pastry of the tarts was spot on. The bread was nice and fluffy with a great crust. It is one of those breads that are hard to stop eating; just another slice!
What is not to love about this patisserie? I highly recommend you give it a go next time you are in the area. And don’t forget to bring your cash. This will definitely be on my regular list.
Wow, beautiful pies - the pastry, the flake, the filling. Gorgeous pastries ! Stunning cakes ! The biggest almond croissant for $3.70 in Perth (beautiful styling, soft and full of filling). Fantastic service - so friendly!!
Everything about this place is amazing. I love it! Wanted to get some sorta pastry to snack on. Walked in and everything looked amazing!
Staff were super nice, they were not annoyed at all when I was being indecisive, well with that many great options it's hard not to be haha.
Ended up getting an apple custard Danish, finished within 30seconds and boy that buttery fragrance! It's not too sweet, just right for me.
Such a little gem!
Used to live a few seconds from this joint abd it definitely a joint. I love the crossiants here as they are really rich and buttery especially the chocolate one.
Best bread I've had in Perth!!! The tarts, cakes and pies are magnificent, but they have nothing on the bread. As everyone says, it looks (and tastes) like it has been made with love, so it's definitely worth it to go there at 7 am to get the most delicious, warm bread (since as everything else, it sells out quite quickly) Don't even understand why people would go to Chu, having the Pearl of Highgate just next door. Cannot recommended enough!
I popped into this little bakery around 7.30am after buying my coffee and croissants from Chu Bakery. The owner/baker who was there is a friendly person. It is a small place. What I was most impressed with was that the display cabinet was already filled with pastries and tarts. The pictures posted don't do justice to the goods. You have to be there to see them for yourself. Each and every item in the cabinet looked like they were made with a passion. I bought a blueberry custard danish and an escargot for $3.70 each. This is a really reasonable price, I feel, for a product so well made. You don't see many places selling blueberry danishes that actually have blueberries in them, and the owner doesn't skimp on the blueberries either. I like what I ate, both items weren't too sweet which I personally prefer and they were tasty. Each had the right amount of crunchiness and chewiness. It may not have the hype that its front neighbour has but this bakery definitely deserves a visit from anyone looking for a great tasting and beautifully made bakery snack.
Walked past this bakery several times, situated behind the other popular bakery was this little bakery, tucked in the quiet street. Read other review that they do beef Rendang pie, I walked into the shop hoping to try this. To my disappointment, at 2pm there's barely any pie left. So not to leave here with regrets, I got their chili pie and blueberry pear Frangopani tart. The pie was normal. However, one bite on the tart, I can't rave enough to friends and family about how delicious it is. Enough fragrant and sweetness, to someone like me who dislikes any sort of tarts, this is the first tart I don't mind eating at all! I'll be sure to buy this for birthdays as I'm sure nobody mind changing the theme from cake to tarts for once.
I stopped by on my way in to work today and picked up a couple of frangipane tarts - blueberry and pear. They were delicious. Lovely short pastry, not too sweet frangipane (a very good thing!) and full of fruit. If I hadn't already eaten breakfast, I might have indulged in a chicken pie given the review by Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want This Time .... DELETE THIS ACCOUNT. but it just gives me a reason to come back for more.
Lovely service - this is a traditional bakery and it seems like they know their business - it really is a pearl!
I've come to this bakery twice now and I was very satisfied with everything that I bought from here. When entering this bakery, it took me n my mum a while to process what we should order because there was so much on display in front of us. But we took our time and eventually made up our minds.
In an early Saturday morning, me and my mum bought blueberry and pecan/macadamia tarts(photos attached) , fig tart, roasted vegetable pie(photo attached) and finished off with an almond and orange muffin. I can say that I absolutely had no flaws with anything I ate from this bakery. Every item we bought tasted delicious and my mum couldn't agree more.
Out of all the tarts I purchased and tasted, my personal favorite was the pecan/macadamia tart. It had the right amount of sweetness to it and the pastry was crisp, well made and tasted fantastic. Not saying the other tarts tasted bad either, they also tasted equally good. My mom's personal favorite was the blueberry tart.
Now onto the pie, I can honestly say this was the best veg pie I've tasted in a long time. Personally being a meat eater myself, I absolutely loved this pie. The macadamia crumble on top of this pie makes it taste like heaven. I certainly recommend buying this pie. Lastly the orange and almond muffin tasted divine as well. It was very moist and the orange slice on top of the muffin gives it that extra sweetness which blend very well with the muffin while eating it.
Now the cost of all the items in this bakery is reasonably priced and not a rip off like other bakeries. In total it costed me around $23. The only thing I found expensive were the pies. But hey they produce quality pies so I can't argue with the cost. But if your like me and don't want your money to sky rocket in one go, choose carefully what pie or tart you want to take so it's well within your budget.
In my second time here, I ordered the chicken pie which tasted very good but not as good as the vegetable pie. The gravy and chicken inside the pie were very delicious though. I also bought a loaf of sourdough rye bread for my mum. I didn't like it since I'm a fan of Scandinavian Rye bread, but my mum liked it. Also the bread is very hard, it doesn't remain soft constantly.
Even though this is a small bakery, there is plenty of side street parking around it. So don't be worried about that. Finally, the staff are very accommodating, helpful and well mannered. The owner himself is extremely helpful, always smiling and always there to look after you. So there is nothing I can ask from this awesome bakery joint.
Furthermore, try coming here early in the weekend. Because if your a morning person like me and your a sucker for pies, you need to get in here quick. Their pies sell out very quickly. I experienced this the second time I went there and the owner told me I had to wait for another hr for their next batch of pies to get ready. I settled for the last remaining pie which was there. Also I believe there are 2 different varieties of Veg and Chicken pies available, so consult the staff with what you want.
This is my go2 bakery store now. I feel it's hands down the bakery to beat in terms of quality in their pies, cakes, tarts and pastries they produce in this small joint. I'll be definitely coming back here again to try their different range in whatever they have to offer.
This is a review for the macadamia tart only. $8.50 for a lovely large tart (worth it !!!). It was not too sweet and had a lovely crunch of whole macadamias and fruit mince embraced in yummy tart pastry.
Tastes just like Christmas !!!
Omg the best bakery in Perth bar none ...... Get there early to make sure you get what you want ... Limited qtys but the quality is outstanding never been disappointed
Food is truly made from the heart in this Swiss bakery. From the outside, it is a very unassuming shop on Lincoln St. Walk closer and you will see that the bakery is filled with yummy goodness.
I enjoy their pies. Nothing fancy...just a good old pie done very well! Oh and they have so many fillings to choose from!
I couldn't bear leaving without trying some of their tarts/slices either and although they didn't transport too well (the glaze was running off the top off one of my tarts) they sure were tasty.
Their products are very well priced.
I definitely will be returning!
Just perfect. Delicious cakes, breads and pies. Thoroughly recommend.
So many delicious cakes!!!. All the cakes from Pearl of Highgate are just amazing! The flavours are so outside of the square and always surprises me (in a good way).
Recommend to anyone!
Just ate the most delicious veggie pie with macadamia/Parmesan crust. Great to find a bakery with a number of veggie options
Keith Urbanspoon approved pies. 4 stars. A point was deducted for not having the green peppercorn daily.
Simply the best. Every single thing they sell is delicious. The people that work there are so friendly. Simply the best. Love the place
Can't be beaten. This place is the best, it is reliable, the standard is always excellent. If you buy a cake today the cake will be exactly the same next week - guaranteed quality. it is not pretentious, far from it and just offers really good food.
YUM!!!!. Yummy pies!
Amazing pastries! The creme brulee is so good.
Great service!
Fabulous. Love this place ...Friendly Service Great Food
Best bakery in Perth. I just try the sweets from this bakery during the weekend.....best pastry, best cakes ever! With my husband, we try a few things and all of them were amazingly good....they were sweet, rich, fresh, OMG! We could not believe we have not try it before....this is a place were you can talk with the owner, who is super nice and the staff, so helpful and happy to be there. If you have not be there yet, what are you waiting? Just try them, you will go back again and again, I will do it for sure.
I have been going to this bakery for more than 10 years. I have ordered birthday cakes, cake for work, dessert for parties and I have never ever had a problem and they are always a big hit wherever I take them, people just love them. They are the best cakes. The best services the best cakes. Nick is always helpfull and the staff is wonderfull. Try it you will not regret it.
Love it since arrive Perth 5 years ago when there was not any decent bread in the city.
The best bakery!
Love Scottys bump! It's like the mollete Andaluz.
Amazing food and highly affordable. The beef rebndang pie is amazing, it's
Beautifully flakey puff pastry and the meat is high quality (no fatty gross bits at all) and the sauce in it is amazing. Everything I've ever had from here is always amazing. It's the best bakery I've ever been to!
Memories of Europe. This is the Pearl of highgate, from all my travels to Europe this place comes close to the pastries you eat over there. The best, light, flavoursome, fresh delights. Buy and enjoy them in Hyde park across the road.
Best bakery ever! The cakes and pastries are mouth watering. Personal favourite is the Jaffa cake. The Swiss apple tart is also delicious. I take cakes to work and they are always extremely popular with coworkers . Staff are exceptionally friendly , the perfect package. One of my favourite places to visit!! Check it out and enjoy the bakery goodness.
Fantastic cakes & bread with a couple of GF options
If you don't like this place, there's something wrong with you. You MUST have the beef rendang pie here. It is the best pie I have had, and I really like meat pies. It has puff pastry, which makes it even better. The other pies are good, but this one is by far the best. The bread tastes like it came straight out of the best bakery in Paris.
I'm not gluten intolerant, however the gluten free orange and almond cake is to die for, and Nick will make it for your special occasion in a large range of sizes with whatever writing you like on top, with as little as a day's notice.
The only drawbacks are that there's not really anywhere to sit (takeaway only with the exception of a few chairs out front), and they only take cash. They've just started making takeaway coffee (pod coffee, and you have to ask for it - feels very VIP!)
Best Bakery in the area. Great selection of meat pies and three vegetarian pies to choose from (unheard of in Perth). Different types of pastries and cakes from the usual and good variety of breads too. Often go there. The Kalua Chocolate cake is really different, very light and my favourite veg pie is the cauliflour and broccoli.
That's a proper bakery, European style. After eating Coles soft bread for too long, it feels great to get actual home-made delicacies.
Awesome bakery! It certainly is a gem. The macadamia and date tart is to due for and all the other cakes and pastries are just as delicious! It is now our favorite bakery. :-)
Great local bakery. Never anything bad. Super friendly service. would recommend anyone to go here.
!!!. Macadamia and date tart: Do yourself a favour and get one. Now!
The only pearl in the ocean.... Fabulous! This is one of the best little patisseries in town.
This place is fantastic if you are heading to someone's place for afternoon tea and need to bring something.
The frangipani tarts are magnificent.
Wrap 'n' Rice Thai Cafe
+4.5
Love this place. By far I personally think it is one of the best bakeries in Perth. I really love going and eating their pastries. Anyone who has never been there should pay a visit, it is worth!
A little gem. TimTam grabbed a lovely chicken curry pie out of the pearl. The pastry was more shortcakey than puffy which was ideal to hold the hot tasty fillings in. The chef brough her over to the oven and ran through which pies were on the go. Miami bakehouse take note. Service was great even for a bakery and the cakes well displayed and labelled. Would be lovely to dine there but no seating available yet. Hopefully soon.
Bland. I had high hopes for this bakery but alas the pastry on my sausie roll was very dry and the sausage didn't taste like it had any seasoning whatsoever, however the owner was very friendly so I'd try something else next time, if there is a next time.....
Best Patisserie in Perth. By far, hands down the best.
No other bakery/pat is competition. Meat pies are hearty and full of deliciously seasoned meat with a smooth flavoured gravy.
Sausage roll pastry was flaky and fresh without being doughy or overcooked - no aftertaste like other 'bakeries'
Great range of gluten free breads/cakes. Orange and almond was a personal favourite. beautiful crusty soft breads and a great range. Will definitely be back
Carrot Cake and Apple Danish are just delightful and pleasant to eat. Their cakes pricing is within most budget ranges from $26 to $48. The Pearl of Highgate customer service is wonderful and magnificent. Most of their products are vegetarian friendly and some are vegan friendly. I would be delighted to recommend to all of my family and friends.
Really great local treats with very warm and friendly customer service. My favorite local spot for fresh bread.
The nicest bakers I have ever met!
Family owned business with delicious breads, made with a few hundred years old sourdough mother from Paris.
Haven't tried their sweets but I watch one of the bakers at night doing prep for the morning and they smell delicious from outside.
It's important to buy your grains from nice people, otherwise your mind will be disturbed.
For a healthier life and an encouraging quote on the sign outside come to Pearl of Highgate
I love the cakes! They are all so delicious, affordable and so many different flavours. I recommend it to anyone who likes quality and sweets. The service is great too! Very helpful and friendly. Everyone asks where did I get my little girls birthday party cakes from...
Amazing variety of pies pasties other hot snacks.
Bread has good quality and lasts! not just one day bread......
Big & small cakes, pastries & tarts
Natural fruit berries & pieces for flavour.
Great selection of treats! Would highly recommend
Hot vegetarian bakery goods?! Yes ! They have heaps of vego options compared to most bakeries (where if your lucky the only thing you'll get is spinach and ricotta rolls, oh but they sell those too and there amazing!!). Used to live around the corner now I live 30 minutes away and still go across town to The Pearl!
Fantastic place. Reasonable prices. Awesome quote of the day. Friendly staff. 11/10
