Their ribs used to be our go to before Hurricanes opened up. You wouldn't think much of this shack but the ribs are good! The price is also decent for what you get. Worth a try!
We ordered ribs and buffalo wings and it was delicious! The prices were great in an area deemed 'touristy' and we had really great customer service and the owner even assured us that it's good food and that the chips are MADE FRESH. The owner even came over to our table after the rush and asked us if everything was good (it was GREAT!) Another good food option to add to a very short list at Hillarys.
Went to American Ribs and Grill, we had ribs, buffalo wings and pulled pork burger for dinner absolutely delicious. I will have no hesitation in returning to this fast food joint or recommending it to others
Love the food here!!! Great ribs! Great sauces!!! Great service!!! Very well priced!!! Will be back soon for another great meal, thanks again Jack!!!
Food was fantastic. the best ribs in all of Perth. family run business that has never let me down. The meat falls off the bone every time and the spices used make all the difference. Love the burgers too
The best ribs in Perth by far! Local family run business delivering great food ( not just ribs ) in a perfect location - Hillarys boat harbour.

I come here every year when I visit Perth. Awesome food and lovely service. Would definitely recommend this. The ribs are to die for.
***Review written by my American Uncle who is a serious ribs connoisseur!***
For openers, if you think the best barbecue is usually found in the worst part of town, in a place with bars on the windows and just enough grease on the able to write your initials –and in The States- then you’d be wrong.
And do you, for even one minute, think that an Austrian born dentist who grew up in Poland and lived in the U.SA. would know anything at all about barbecue – much less be able to enlist his family and open a stand in a giant floating Australian shopping center and marina… Not likely? Then you’d be wrong again.
The barbecue place is American Barbecue and Grill in the Sorrento Quay in Sorrento, a suburb of, and maybe 20 minutes northwest of, Perth.
Perth as in Perth, Australia.
Jack is the dentist turned pit master who has turned his passion for cooking from avocation to vocation and, while there’s still some educating to be done, seems to be doing well by doing good.
Education? Yes, American’s who savor ‘cue know that a pink ring on their ribs, brisket or pulled pork means it’s been cooked low and slow over a bed of wood – be it hickory, apple, cherry, oak or some combination thereof.
Aussies getting their first real taste of barbecue, feared the pink ring meant uncooked (as in raw) meat. The white meat of pulled pork was another cultural issue; white meat? Not here. So now Jack makes sure his pulled pork is brown – the color most all Australians expect most all their meats to be. And Australians are not so much into hotter than very hot sauces.
All of which explains the obstacles a foreign food has down under; what it doesn’t describe is just how painstaking American Barbecue and Grill has been putting out quality ‘cue and, as a bonus, some world class (yes, they’re that good) chicken wings. Plump, moist, really tasty wings.
Jack is a SauceMaster, so instead of having a couple and you choosing which goes on what, he creates and has different sauces for each entree. And in the case of the ribs and pulled pork, you have your choice: The Brown Shoe Gourmet opted for his extra spicy sauce which was unique not in that it was taste-bud burning hot (it wasn’t) but because it was full flavor with a nice little bite that kicks in just about the time you’ve swallowed the meat.
Jack’s fries, or “chips” as they’re called there, are also excellent. Prepared in some sort of exotic patented device he bought in his time in The States and serves up the chips nicely browned, and with as much flavor as a potato is allowed to offer.
The day we visited (with a tip of the Carter cap to Harry’s parents), Jack’s daughter Vanessa was smiling and waiting at the counter, Jack was delivering to the picnic table the six of us shared, his wife and son were not yet on duty.
Yes, they do have hamburgers (Jack has a special sauce, surprised?), but with wings and ribs this good, why? And don’t forget the pulled pork – another all star entry.
If you’re a Yank traveling to Australia’s west coast, this barbecue oasis in the middle of a fish ‘n chips world is worth the effort. As someone who has spent a lifetime in pursuit of the perfect barbecue, American Barbecue and Grill will be at the top of the agenda on our next trip.
If you’re an Aussie anywhere near, give them a shot – it’s the real deal.

This place does the best ribs. The sauce is amazing. We come here regularly but not often enough. The owner is passionate about his food and always recognises us. I just wish it didn't take half an hour for the ribs to be ready.
The guy who runs the place is very enthusiastic about the food. After we had sat down with our meal (half rack of ribs - $17.50, hamburger - $8), he bought us over a small portion of sausage to try (it was really good). The food was nice. I had swapped the normal chips with the ribs for ones with bacon and cheese (and had been instructed to lift the ribs away from the chips when salting them before the bacon and cheese was applied, so that I didn't tamper with the flavouring. But it was also good that he got me to salt them beforehand), and those chips were very well covered; there was enough bacon bits for every chip. I'm not a big coleslaw fan, but it actually tasted alright, though I only had about half of it due to being full.
Amazing ribs and coleslaw. I've visited American Ribs & Grill many times before albeit the poor customer service because the ribs are amazing. However on my many visits I've actually come to learn that the owner is not grumpy at all and is actually really friendly if you talk to him, he always offers samples of his buffalo wings if you haven't tried them. This place has the best coleslaw I've ever had in my entire life and I wish that they would offer more of it with their ribs or have the option to buy a large serving of it.
1st feed on fly in Day :). I Love these ribs, i get excited when its time to fly home from work, i Like the Witty-ness from the old guy.. people find him rude but he's actually nice old chap.. Handle it or eat somewhere else haha
Enjoyed My Meal.. American Ribs and Grill, is a small corner store near Jettys restaurant. I have walked past the store many times with my family and decided to stop by and try their ribs today for lunch. I was greeted by a young, bubbly, lady who explained the whole menu to me and sold me on the ribs and a side of buffalo chicken wings. I waited approximately 10 minutes for my food and was called up to pick up my meal.
The Ribs were out of this world and the chicken wings, hit the spot just right. I have spent a few years in America, and can honestly justify that its hard to find ribs this good in the states, let alone Australia.
It's safe to say me and my kids will be coming here more often. Customer service today was very good.
The 'grumpy old man' gave me samples and tried to make jokes...delicious sauce, good for a food court type place
