Review New Local Eatery - Hindmarsh

Jacinta Robinson
We booked in for the Chef’s Menu last week and were not disappointed. I had driven by a few times and always wanted to stop in. The food was creative and delicious. A great variety of food, one of the reasons I wanted to try the chef’s menu. The chef was very accommodating with our diets (one vego and one no seafood) and didn’t make my partner eat all vego just because there were sharing plates. Thank you. The staff were very friendly too. I am really looking forward to coming back here again. The experience was fantastic and quite classy (but, actually, reasonably priced)

What an amazing place to have great food.

I love this place so much. Always creatively changing up the menu while using fresh, seasonal ingredients. Great vibe!

Still thinking about the delicious meal we enjoyed last night before a show - great service, great value and food was 10/10! Thank you for squeezing us in New Local Eatery - we will be back!

Always great food. Small and intimate restaurant to enjoy a quiet atmosphere.

Brilliant flavour & texture combinations, an ever-changing menu using seasonal ingredients, always super tasty dishes - the Chef is a marvel.

Fantastic dinner with bold fusion flavours! Omggggg the grilled eggplant dip for the sourdough bread was soooo good! And that pork belly.... WOW! Just the best crackling. The yoghurt Panna Cotta was super delicious as well 😍😍.

Wow. So happy my great friends took me to this fantastic gem of a restaurant. You cannot fault anything about this place and I know that I will be recommending anybody that is looking for the next best place for the best food in town to come here. ( try the crispy prawns.. yummo) everything was the best. Thanks to everybody involved for making this my new best place to go for the best night out. Cheers

The New Local Eatery is a restaurant/cafe which surrounding residents would be extremely proud to call their 'local'. One of my colleagues had raved about this place for months so we visited for the first time in early 2016. We have been back 4 times in the last 2 months for brunch, lunch and dinner with different dishes sampled every time. They have not yet failed to impress again and again; this is no small feat as we can be fussy eaters. The friendly chef comes from a fine dining background which explains the level of care taken in every single detail. No plated element is wasted; every ingredient adds to the dish. The New Local Eatery does not compromise on the quality of ingredients used. To top it all off, service is always lovely. I'm pretty stingy with my 5-star ratings and this place def deserves 5 big golden ⭐️. I'm told they get a lot of repeat customers, and we can't wait to come back again.

great service, great quality food at an reasonably good price, good wine list as well, will recommend to anyone.

I visited the New Local three times in the last 10 days and each time I couldn't help myself, I had to have the pork spare ribs. I wanted to try something else but my taste buds were in control and insisted... each meal was perfect, the meat fell off the bone and the flavour was outstanding. The Chef was kind enough to discuss the cooking method, the Staff suggested a new (to me) French wine, and the entire experience could not be faulted. Well done New Local - just well done.

Have been to this excellent restaraunt a couple of times and on both occasions have been impressed with the atmosphere the knowledgable friendly staff and the consistently tasty excellent food. I can't understand why this place is not packed every night. If ever you're at the entertainment centre take advantage of there set menu and show special and if you're looking for a cheap tasty lunch it's the place. Do you're self a favour we need these places to be established and secure businesses in Adelaide.

The texture and flavour combinations you put together never disappoint. Wonderful friendly service. Love this place!

We went here for our anniversary dinner. I must say the food was Devine and very well priced for the quality. Each dish had exquisite flavours which left my taste buds wondering what they had just experienced. The food was the object and the money we were paying for it paled in comparison. Hats off to these guys!

Went here before a show at the Entertainment Centre and they were excellent. Really friendly, great service, delicious food (including lovely vego options), and they managed to serve our two courses in time for the show. Would highly recommend.

What a great outing we had! Food was amazing- went with a group of 10 people and everyone's meal was outstanding! Service was spot on too! Highly recommend

The people who work here are so incredibly friendly, nothing is too much trouble and it is obvious they have a passion for the food they serve. The zucchini flowers were to die for! Would definately eat here again!

I would have to say the food was amazing! Each course just had the wow factor! The service was great, effortless, efficient and your table was always tendered to! Wine list is well thought and plenty to choose from! We could not fault the whole evening! Worth the night out! Rating 10/10

This is my favourite restaurant/bar in Adelaide. The innovative menu using mostly local ingredients is wonderful. A refreshing change from what’s offered as choices at other eateries. The value for money makes it very affordable!

This restaurant was recommended to us and certainly it lived up to the reputation. Menu was very interesting, we decided to have share plates which was a great idea as we were able to taste more of the dishes. Food was awesome! Staff were very helpful with choices!! Highly recommend!

The New Local has been consistently good so I was interested in whether their food translated to takeaway - it does! We ordered the padron pepper side, the Korean beef bowl and the lamb rump. Everything was delicious but the lamb rump was the stand out. We're lucky enough to be in their delivery zone so we didn't even have to leave our lounge. If you can, keep supporting our great local restaurants!

Absolutely delicious food. Great service.
Loved everything

Second time dining here with a friend. We were very impressed with the menu, which changes often to showcase the best seasonal produce. On this occasion we shared cheese fritters, and zucchini flowers for starters, followed by eggplant, and beef brisket for mains. The service is friendly, however a little slow, so opt to visit when you're after a long, leisurely afternoon/evening.

We recently came to eat a midweek lunch at this lovely local restaurant in Hindmarsh. The lunchtime specials were amazing value at $15 and the food was so delicious. The burger was large and plentiful and was a meal in itself. The Caesar salad was so crisp and tasty with crunchy prosciutto and a delicious dressing. Service was attentive without being overbearing and the food turnaround time was perfect for the lunch hour break. Will be back for sure.

Nice place, have never been disappointed here. Love the window seats. Menu is quite small but well thought out. Great for a meal before a show.

Just an average breakfast but good coffee and atmosphere.
The omelette was nice but the toaste was very salty.
Could have done with more relish and cheese.

This place just does everything right! I have been half a dozen times and not only is the food absolutely amazing, the staff are very friendly and personable, and the interior is homely yet classy. The menu is ever changing and seasonal - I particularly like the seafood based soups and the fresh salads but everything I've chosen has been flavourful and delicious. Highly, highly recommend!

Forever changing, the lunch selections on offer are hard to choose from.... everything sounds amazing! The restaurant itself is clean, bright and modern. I ordered the salmon rice bowl served with kimchi and loved every tasty mouthful. Well priced and good portions. Perfect for a quick work bite :)

Ok, so I don’t like giving 5 stars but there was nothing to dislike about my experience at New Local Eatery on Port Rd, Hindmarsh.
We kicked off with Crispy School Prawns deep fried with Kale with a side serve of oregano smoked tomato sauce, a beautiful salty dish to tantalise the tastebuds.
Along with a smoked Coorong Mulloway, this was diced raw fish served with coriander, lime and chilli, using fried skin fish as the crackers... simply brilliant!
For mains we thought we’d mix the robust punch of a slow roasted pork belly vindaloo with the cool and zesty notes of a roasted five spice eggplant salad... both outstanding dishes in their own right.
With great service and relaxed vibes, this restaurant is a little gem if you can find it!!!
Food: Middle eastern spiced chicken soup. Packed in flavour and plenty of it. The menu is so diverse, got those lunch time specials, it was pretty hard to choose. Everything on the menu looks really appealing. It's a 5.0 from me as the food was excellent, service sharp and fit out of the place makes it nice to eat at. Ticks all the boxes for me. Open late too.

I really do like this place! It’s chic, fun, sophisticated and pretty lay back all at the same time. Service is attentive and friendly.

We went here a few weeks ago, and the menu has changed since then, good to see. I have been OS in Japan for the last couple weeks, so some reviews are a little behind! I so wish I could review some of the Japanese restaurants I dined in on Zomato! Bummer!

We tried the lunch special, any dish for $14. The dishes were fresh and vibrant with nowhere to hide, pretty good honest flavours all round. I ordered the potato fish patty sort of number, which I really enjoyed, as this is such a homey dish, it was nice to see it on the menu! Really awesome pickled onions with it too! Foodie mate had Asian style chicken salad, enjoyed it but said it could have done with a bit more dressing. Would definitely return for the lunch menu.

The following week we had a Birthday there as well.

Majority of the dishes were enjoyed by all of the guests at the table, the only downfall was the inconsistency of the meals being delivered, some of us had to wait quite a while for our mains whilst others had already finished. I know how difficult this can be when you have a full restaurant, but maybe if the booking times were a bit more staggered this wouldn’t happen. I also ordered the duck dish (no longer on the menu), which did not have a sauce! Mmmm no sauce! No good! Had to ask the waiter to ask the kitchen if they could please give me any sauce that will go with duck, not a problem at all and it made the dish so much better! Sauce rules! No matter what!

I would return, as I do find their menus fresh and interesting. Excellent wine list as well!

Nice work team.

Good staff. Great lunch. Very well balanced meals. Very flavoursome and the lunch specials are great value. Smart soundproofing means conversation can be more than yelling and nodding.

Gourmet lunch for $14 ! Service is impeccable, the place is new and the decor modernly tasteful. I enjoyed the changing menu with fresh and seasonal ingredients. Best place for work lunch and before show.

Great service, nice ambience, amazing food and very reasonably priced for the quality of the menu. We had a great dinner experience and will definitely be back to try the brunch menu. Well worth a 5 star rating.

This place worth more than 5 star for sure. Fresh and local ingredients, every ingredients shine on the plate and the flavor will never disappoint you. Have been go back for so many times and recommended to friends and they all liked them.

The Hindmarsh area has found itself a "New Local Eatery". The new restaurant is housed at Shop 2, 120 Port Road, Hindmarsh formerly occupied by "Suzie Wong's Room" and "Lucky Cat." Having been to the other two restaurants, there is a more sophisticated feel when you first enter the restaurant. Perhaps it is the prints from Stewart MacFarlane that are hung on the walls that gives the restaurant that different vibe?.....

Ordered from the lunch special menu which is $14.90 I think from memory.
3 different dishes at our table, all of them excellent value. There's plenty on offer in the area at this price and New Local is miles in front of their competitors.
5/5

We are quite discerning brunch goers and I would say you'd be hard pressed to find a better brunch in Adelaide. We had the nasi lemak and tommy ruff fillets on sourdough with tomatoes. Not only is it more interesting than your typical brunch fare but more crucially, it was absolutely delicious. Proud to have a restaurant of this quality in our neighbourhood

The coffee was good, the food was awesome (we had trout and Nasi goreng for brunch). The service was lovely as well, go now before it gets super busy

This place is great! The service is friendly, attentive and unobtrusive, the food is superb, and the wine and beer list is well thought out and interesting. I'd go back just for a plate of the best whitebait I've ever eaten, or a serve of that beautiful salmon belly, but all of the dishes we tried were perfectly cooked, well presented, imaginative, and refreshingly unpretentious. I highly recommend the New Local Eatery.

UPDATE:

March 2016:

We have been back 5 times in the last 2 months for brunch, lunch and dinner with different dishes sampled every time. Having grown up in South East Asia, I was initially apprehensive about ordering the Nasi Goreng but decided to give it a go. I was so glad I did because this rich dish packed a massive punch.

Service was lovely and the chef also came out of the kitchen to make sure we were happy with our well-priced brunch.

We got to sneak a peek into their dinner menu and each dish looked as interesting as the next. I'm pretty stingy with my 5-star ratings and this place def deserved 5 big golden ⭐️. We can't wait to come back.

Finally, a worthy successor to Susie Wong's.

The interior is very modern and conventional - lots of white and grey. It's nice but I do miss the dark, moody, grungy, eclectic feel of Susie Wong's (I realise I need to stop pining after her. She's gone. Accept it).

The staff are placid and pleasant and attentive.

The food is outstanding. Some of the best food you will find outside of the CBD, in my opinion. We had:

Mushroom Arancini that actually taste like mushroom and not just deep fried crumbing, served with a tangy, creamy sauce.

Gado Gado with a rich peanut sauce and fun ingredients like ash potatoes.

Cauliflower salad with an intensely delicious tangy lemon dressing and a bunch of nuts, grapes and other tiny bits that combine to create a full on taste party.

Heirloom tomato salad that used several types of very good quality tomatoes and had some nice touches like pink peppercorns and sweet pickled onion.

The salt levels in the dishes are what some would call offensive but what I would call perfection. Salt is a miracle that enhances flavour without adding calories and if you don't love it, it's time to rethink your life.

Prices are a little high, but I am willing to pay pretty much any amount for flavours this good.

Can't wait to come back and try brunch options and next season's dinner menu!
Fit & Fed Foodie
This place is definitely worth the visit. The staff make you feel welcome and the food is perfection. We devoured all of our dishes between the two of us to the crumb... Attentive service and a carefully thought out menu with as much detail in their presentation as they do in sourcing their produce locally, big winner in my books... not every time but some times the food is just too salty. Any of their fried seafood options are always amazing too, definitely try it out.

This place had a nice ambience to it with attractive exhibition of paintings however i couldn't say the same about the food. Reading the menu, it felt promising but almost every dish we had was so salty to the point we couldn't enjoy the mains. The small dishes however were quite tasty

I feel very lucky myself to find this great place to have my lunch today!!

Located in Port Road I got an eye for nice healthy and good food!! I found " New Local" eatery!!

The best part they have a $14 lunch menu, which looks amazing and very fresh!!

For my lunch I had breast chicken crusted in Dukah, with baked Beetroot and feta salad, very tasty, and light!! The chicken was delightful!!

In the menu they have like 5 options for lunch but they change it weekly.

The main menu also offers pre shows dinners and the option to go for two courses or 3 very good prices too!!

I will come back to the New Local! I had a very nice lunch the atmosphere is very I groans but with a classic touch, the decor is simple but with beautiful. Lots of paintings exhibiting an artist work.
Well done!!

We popped in before a show at The Gov. The fit out of the place provides a lovely ambience and the staff were very friendly and helpful with menu recommendations. We tried a number of smaller dishes and a couple of larger ones to share. Good wine list and all reasonably priced. I couldn't fault anything.

One of my favourite past times is checking out the new local eatery. This rang true with my recent visit to the New Local Eatery over at Hindmarsh. Located next door to the Entertainment Centre, this place offers a variety of international flavours in the form of small plates, mains and desserts. I was also pleased to see they had a cheaper lunch menu for people on the go.

Perhaps it is the prints from Stewart MacFarlane that are hung on the walls that gives the restaurant that different vibe? Stewart is an Adelaide born artist who has held more 60 sols exhibitions all over the world. So from one local to another- his work is exhibited at the restaurant and if you fall in love with one of his limited prints while dining here, you can even purchase it and take it home.

Cute and cosy boutique restaurant near The Entertainment Centre. The New Local Eatery has food to make your mouth water - I ordered the beef masaman and it was fantastic! The food is unbelievable, fresh and zingy...I've been to quite a few restuarants in my time but this rocked - well worth it!! I loved the lighting and artwork splashed across the walls. I'm told they do a 'mean' brunch on Sunday too, I might just have to test it out....!
