Great atmosphere! Got the beef burrito bowl, great price, was delicious and a decent amount. Highly recommend this place
I cannot praise Ginger Brown too highly. The food and coffee are the best in Hobart. I have just moved from Sydney and have tried most Hobart cafes and this is the best. Most incredible (beside the food and coffee) are the fantastic staff- friendly, welcoming and providing really good service. Be warned though- this cafe is always packed, and humming with the noise of people having a great time. Finding a seat is sometimes difficult but you can reserve a table. Great atmosphere, food and coffee. Highly recommended.
First visit and it ticked every box! Great tasty food, amazing chai brew & latte, best atmosphere/vibe, excellent service! Could have just sat there all day We visited as a family and felt so welcomed This little hidden gem would suit all people. Cannot wait to return X
Had a lovely brunch this morning with 2 friends I hadn't spent time with in a while. The baked eggs were very tasty and my first coffee was wonderful (2nd not as good unfortunately). My friends enjoyed their meals too (baked eggs with a side of haloumi and kimchi pancakes with a side of bacon). Thank you Ginger Browns.
Ham steak panini was Absolutely delicious and a stand out although all the food and drink was lovely! We also loved all the detail of retro tables couches and lovely tableware holders! Wonderful prompt service and attentive, thank you for the experience on our trip to hobart, although we accidentally found you on our way down from the mountain.

I really enjoyed a catch up with friends at Ginger Brown Cafe this morning. I had never been and it was a very pleasant atmosphere, with that retro style, cool vibe.
The staff was great and attended to us quickly even though it was busy.
Will be back ! Thank you
What can I say really? Everyone knows this place is top notch! Food and service are always faultless. Love it!
Absolutely beautiful food & delicious coffee highly recommend the staff were so friendly & welcoming
From the great menu to the friendly service what isn't there to enjoy about this South Hobart cafe!? For breakfast I had half-serve poached egg (ie1) with delicious brown mushrooms and a generous serve of avocado. My dining companion had the beef brisket omelette which was very tasty. The coffee is very good and the atmosphere is inviting. Highly recommended!
Fantastic food and coffee. The staff were excellent and atmosphere was on point. Highly recommended.
OMG the house made crumpets with raspberry and pear compote and lemon butter; absolutely to die for! The coffee is amazing too. I need to go back to this place.
Friendly staff, meals were tasty, flavours explode in your mouth. All who visit Hobart need to experience Ginger Brown. Thank you Kitti and Nancy.
Ham steak panini to die for , great almond latte tooservie great too!
Found Ginger Brown for coffee and brunch. Lots of flavours and staff very courteous and friendly.
Food is oh so yummy
Service is extremely friendly
And the coffee is the best ☕️
Highly recommend this sweet little cafe!
We had the garlic and mushroom omelette and the baked eggs. Both were absolutely delicious and generous portions. Great atmosphere and lots of room. Highly recommend.
Cozy and friendly place, also dog friendly....the desserts are impressive..it’s good place to spend weekend morning with friends and families
What an amazing little place. The food was delicious, the coffee amazing and the service excellent. Probably our best meal in Hobart so far. Excellent job guys!
Out of our first three mornings in Hobart we went to this place twice. Being from Melbourne with an insanely good breakfast and coffee scene I think this place would fit right in. One of the best breakfasts I’ve had and coffee was good also. Big servings with very friendly staff. Hopefully get to come back before we leave Tasmania.
I had the pleasure starting a day in Hobart at this place recently and I have to say straight up. One of the best breakfast dishes I have ever had. I from Melbourne where the breakfast and coffee culture is high in Australia. This beef brisket omelette had the best balance of flavours and textures. This place is amazing. Service was really good and the coffee is great, it comes with a little chocolate
I had the omelette with beef brisket. The eggs were very fluffy and airy, I loved the light texture. The dish also came with a Vietnamese slaw with fresh bean sprouts, mint leaves and pickled onions, topped with deep fried onions. Whilst the beef was tender, it was a bit too chewy for my liking.
Made use of having a rental car on a Sunday to have breakfast out of the city centre. Ginger Brown was packed and we first sat outside before we could get a table inside. Outside would have been fine if it was in the sun but unfortunately their terrace is covered and doesn't get sun. Bit too chilly so we moved inside when possible. Had a cold pressed juice which was fine. Hubby had kimchi pancakes, I had mushroom bruschetta. We normally share, but this time both loved our own dish a lot more. So judging from whoever had to eat the dishes, both were amazing. Really really good.
Because I saw a good-looking coffee coming past and it was a bit chilly when we were still outside I ordered a coffee. Bad impulse decision. It was not so good, I didn't finish it.
Service was friendly.
Would totally recommend the food here, drinks not so much. Probably good to nake a reservation in weekends if you can.
Absolutely my favourite cafe to catch up with friends! Always has the best food and hot drinks it is my go to every weekend! The staff are so friendly and helpful and the whole atmosphere is just perfect! First time I ever went to ginger brown I returned 3 more times that week.
Food was nice, we had the bubble and squeak which had good flavours. The other dish was the beetroot and leek on brioche, the brioche was not nice and tasked pretty stale. Flavour combinations were good though!
Always delicious with modern takes on your favourite dishes. GB is a great option for breakfast or lunch, it is very load in there though. I had to lean in close to hear my friend talk to me. I suggest fitting the room out in soft furnishings 😊
Carrot and cauliflower egg dish was great!
Loved coffees as well
We loved the atmosphere in the cafe, nice vibe, friendly faces, great service
Will be happy to come back
Great find on a rainy Hobart day. The service was friendly and food was yummy. Obviously popular with the locals- the speck was delicious. Only downside was the one toilet on site- there was a queue inside the cafe for it.
I saw a reviewer disparagingly describe this place as a "hipster magnet" and I had to laugh. When you do cosy, quirky and quality this well I'm grateful, and I wish there were more hipster magnets as deserving of the label.
The decor and the atmosphere of this cafe gave me a warm glow before I even looked at the menu. The service is friendly and attentive without being overfamiliar, and I get the feeling everyone wants to be there. Great coffee, excellent menu - I wish I'd had the opportunity to try more. My friend and I both had the house-made crumpets. A bit disappointed that they weren't leavened with yeast, but the balance and quality of the dish and its presentation made up for it. If I were local I'd be a regular here for sure.
Came to Hobart for traveling purpose. This shop is closed to where we stayed and recommend by our Airbnb host, and been seeing other foodies' pics and recommend especially the coffee, so here we are.
It was popular on a Sunday morning at 9am....seems like everybody is here. =) and they do take bookings....luckily we still manage to get a table after 10 mins wait.
Serving: huge, as in really full on but we still manage to finish the breakfast.
I ordered the baked eggs, nothing to complain.
just regret didn't save some appetite for a little sweet treat. =p
Baked eggs were full of flavor and perfect. The restaurant was full of locals on a Tuesday lunch which is a great sign. Service was friendly and appropriately timed. The entire menu looked SO good it was hard to pick just one. Also check out the baked goods. Caramel slice to go hit the spot later. Highly recommended place to eat!!!
Nice cafe to settle in with the paper. Funky decor gives plenty of seating options for groups or singles. Love any cafe that actually put chocolate on top of the cappuccino! Mushrooms were delicious. And they were really nice about giving me some fresh rocket to go with my eggs and trout. Yum!
One of the best breakfast, brunch, lunch and afternoon snack places in Hobart! Only downside is it is always packed and therefore rather loud! Be sure to book s table. :)
One of our favourite breakfast spots in Hobart. Service was absolutely fantastic, food is delicious and cafe is full of fun, eclectic decor. Pricing is also really reasonable given generous portion sizes and variety of the menu. Would definitely recommend and return.
We came here straight from the airport to have our breakfast because they have such great reviews and we're very impressed! The food was yum, the coffee was great and the staff were very welcoming and friendly!
I love this place. It's rare for my mum and I to agree on a cafe or restaurant but we love this place. The problem is trying to get a table, it's too popular. Especially being south Hobart under mount Wellington they should have heaters outdoors for the tables. Last time I went they had changed the Welsh rarebit (a menu favourite) but not indicated it on the menu. It was a totally different dish, not what we were expecting and we were massively let down from the change with no notice or information on the menu. So points lost for that, otherwise would be a 5 out of 5
As some of you might know, before moving to Melbourne, my first stop in Australia was actually Hobart in Tassie. I fell in love with the place and still try to visit my friends down there as often as I can. My best friend and her family have become my surrogate family in Australia, as my family are all still back in Germany.
Amazing baked eggs, awesome service! Coffee - perfect! :) just what I needed!
A Wonderful Place to Eat. Anywhere that does all day breakfast automatically gets a leg up on other places for me, and it's pretty rare in Hobart. Luckily Ginger Brown is one of those places - and good God do they do food well. I'm not really a lunch person (why have savoury when you can have sweet is my philosophy) but the quality of their food has convinced me to try a couple of lunch dishes as well - the delicious sweet potato fritter and delightfully interesting kimchi pancake were both divine. My favourite dish by far is the house baked crumpets. I tried the banana french toast as well, but banana bread with banana and honey on top is kind of overkill. It was way too sweet for my liking, and I have one hell of a sweet tooth. Still, this is probably my favourite Hobart cafe. It's very busy and I wouldn't recommend showing up without a booking. I wish other places in Hobart would recognise Ginger Brown's popularity and up their game as well, because we need more places like this.
One of the better mochas in Hobart. makes my top 5 list. Breakfast is top notch, plenty of options and great value! Highly reccomended! I'll be back!
Brunch at Ginger Brown was sensational. Their kim chi pancake is to die for! Excellent coffee too. Highly recommended!
This might be my favorite new brunch place!. After my husband took our young daughters there for brunch a few weeks ago, they would not stop talking about how great it was! Disclaimer: my 1 and 3 year old were mostly gaga about the size of the marshmallows they got with their babyccinos! My husband however, took a pic of the menu and it all reads pretty darn good!
So the four of us visited recently and I must admit, it's a great place with a cool vibe. Service was fantastic [much appreciated] and we had some seriously flavorful food. My better half got the kimchi pancakes which were delicious albeit a touch too spicy for me. I am a bit of a whimp with spice though. He loved it. I got the beans with the fried speck and toast and it was just divine. We also got an order of the banana bread and it was some of the best we've had in Hobart. We will certainly be back!
Amazing! Came here on a weekday brunch time and it was packed! Such a great atmosphere. And that's just the beginning. Coffee was great and the food was to die for. I had the banana bread French toast and my partner had baked eggs. Don't miss out on ginger brown if you are visiting Hobart.
Gem! So many interesting things on the menu - modern cuisine! Loved it. Will go back.
I highly recommend ordering the quinoa wedges! They are great value for money ($9 from memory) and are absolutely delicious; I've already been back to have them again!
Go here after Cascade brewery.... Don't have lunch at Cascade, come here instead! Good food, good service!
Excellent. Made the huge trek from Battery Point and it was worth it. Sweet potato veg burger was tasty and the coffee was great.
Great place for breakfast. Felt like we were with the locals.. Baked eggs were awesome and friendly service :)
Fantastic all around!. Lovely staff, interesting and tasty food. Will certainly return the next time I am in Hobart!
Just had a scrumptious breakfast of spiced pumpkin porridge with yogurt! Mum and I both agree that food was gorgeous and service was friendly and attentive.
Food is good for some meals, some were average, coffee was a bit of a let down
Great food, service, and great coffee. Ben and his team really take the time to look after you.
The address is really 464 Macquarie St. The PLT was ace!
So I've eaten at Ginger Brown about four times now since they opened, and i must say while the food and service is getting steadily better each time, the coffee is still quite average. THIS IS HOLDING YOU DOWN, GINGER! We have a pretty good standard of coffee in hobart now (Villino, Pilgrim, Island, Yellow Bernard, and Machine Laundry Cafe making some of the best) and i really do think it's almost unforgivable to be serving high quality and inventive cafe food without a similar standard of coffee. This time around i ordered poached eggs on dark rye with sides of bacon and mushrooms. I really love that they use summer kitchen bread here, it's some of the best bread in the country. The eggs were perfectly poached with nice runny yolks, and well drained, there was no water left on the plate (or more importantly on my toast) and the bacon crisp and delicious. The mushrooms on the other hand were bland, rubbery and dry. Not worth putting on a plate. I also found the house relish quite unbalanced in seasoning. My fellow eater ordered scrambled eggs on sourdough with a side of house beans. The eggs were silky moist ribbons of (near) perfection, but i found the beans to be a bit of a let down, which is so often the case in a lot of cafes. I really think the secret to good beans is in the sauce, and while the subtle spice was great, the flavour was more that of a lightly seasoned can of chopped tomatoes. the beans themselves also being a touch undercooked. Another dish worthy of a mention is the PLT, a simple yet delicious pork belly toastie served with rocket, herb mayo and a tomato dipping sauce. There is a great selection of house made cakes and biscuits, and daily specials on the blackboard. The staff were attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere cosy and grungy. Just don't sit on the couches. will definitely be back for a peck, and to give the coffee another chance.
