Review The Point Revolving Restaurant - Hobart

Leanne White
A wonderful experience at this terrific restaurant. We have dined here a number of times over the last few decades and I'm happy to report that the service and food is better than ever! The view is of course something to be enjoyed - particularly as the sun sets over the beautiful surrounds of Sandy Bay and beyond. We dined for a special birthday and the highly attentive staff did not disappoint with candles, kind words and singing. The wine list is extensive with a focus on some very good Australian wines. I particularly like the way in which this establishment pays special attention to its regular diners with a special collection of engraved silver napkin rings. An absolute pleasure dining here once again. We'll be sure to return soon!

Had dinner on my birthday. From the moment I entered the store to the moment I left, I was greeted with birthday wishes. Most of the staff were friendly, but Justin's special service was impeccable. The sashimi was fresh, the short rib was tender, and the dessert was good as not too sweet. The bridge was full of red yesterday as of Dark mofo and it was lovely too. Thank you everyone who gave me a good memory of my special day. I was really enjoying my time yesterday 😊

Bit of a novelty and a good experience for a tourist with amazing views over Hobart. The food was very good, with the kingfish sashimi being a highlight, but overall could do with a bit of restraint. For example, my short rib main had 13 different elements on the plate, which is a bit of overkill. I'm nitpicking here but given the price the little flaws stick out.

Such a special venue. I felt spoilt and attended to from the moment I walked through the door. I advised in advance of my allergy requirements and this was looked after. The meal was incredible. The view spectacular and the service above expectation. Would highly recommend.

A night out at the Point Revolving Restaurant is much more that just a meal, it is a dining experience. The service is superb and food outstanding. While not cheap we choose the set three course menu. It was well worth the price as with a party of three we were able to experience all options on the menu. A memorable evening.

We can’t wait to go back! Amazing service with beautiful and friendly staff who made us feel at home! The food was sensational and we felt it was reasonably priced, good value for money and overall we just can’t wait to return! Thank you Linda and Olive and team for making our family celebration a huge success x x x

One of the best restaurants I've ever been to. It's worth every cent. Service was unbelievably good and the food was to die for. Chef cooking a steak next to you was an amazing experience and all of this while you observe stunning views of Hobart! Cannot recommend this enough. It is pricey but we'll worth it.

As others had expressed we did not hold high expectations on the food again thinking it was going to be more of a novelty experience, however both the food and service was exceptional and provided a great dining experience. Highly recommended!

Is yet another visit to the iconic Revolving Restaurant in Hobart!

An interior refit, some new lighting, colors, curtains has improved the ambiance, well done it was needed!

The night was simply perfect, from the valet parking to start and finish due to our booking, to the impeccably coordinated floor service and food that was perfect in every way.

All in all a very polished experience, quite reasonably priced at $150 a head for three courses including drinks.

If you haven’t been, make the efforts because apart from the mountain, they are the very best views in Tassie whilst consuming food and beverages.

A good experience
The distance from Battery Point where we were staying was a $8 Uber trip which surprised me. Casinos are not my favourite places but I had heard about this place and wanted to try it out and checkout the views.
It is a fine dining restaurant and the service did it justice. We chose the set price menu with three courses and the food was very tasty and well presented plus the complimentary appetizer was appreciated not forgetting the surprise chocolates with a birthday wish.
With a visit and the Birdcage Bar downstairs does a good cocktail prior

Initially, I was a little skeptical. Revolving restaurants are usually a little thick on the view and thin on quality... and even the best Australian casino restaurants have an element of tackiness to them. But my fears were quickly squashed.

The food was excellent, prepared perfectly. I was there with my wife and 4 year old, and my parents, who were visiting from Canada. Everyone loved their meals. I had duck, and others had lamb and chicken. Everyone's was cooked perfectly, and came with well prepared, interesting and unique sides, obviously making use of local Tasmanian products. They also made our son feel very welcome, with a kids menu that didn't just pander with the usual, but gave kid friendly, professionally prepared, healthy dishes.

Beyond this, the I really commend the wait staff, a mix of older, professional fine dining servers, mixed with younger staff who have definitely picked up those skills that only can be learned from mentoring. Although we did not order any of the table-side prepared meals, our neighbouring table did, and the preparation (both by the elder and junior staff) was outstanding to watch.

The only thing to hold against the Point was the chairs. They are aesthetically out of place, the only reminder that we were in a casino, although they were functionally perfect, enabling us to look around and enjoy the amazing scenery. Boo hoo for me...

We will definitely return!

Really disappointing. Freezing cold inside had to leave my heavy fur coat on all through dinner. Meals were aching slow. 3 hours for 3 courses. Drinks slow in coming- no offer of tea or coffee with dessert. Just generally poor quality for a top dollar price.

For a +$400 meal for three people l must say it was a little pricey, our steak meals were $69 each. Expertly prepared, cooked and dished out all at your table.
Awesome revolving floor, absolutely amazing view, amazing staff and a really good night.
Despite the price tag this is a good experience and a great night.

Had a special event dinner at the Point last night
( a Tuesday night ) for an anniversary that had some big numbers in it. As expected the views over our fabulous harbour city was the perfect backdrop for our table of seven The menu for the night was fairly limited in the amount of plates on offer ( included was a three course set menu )but what was available did showcase what is good about the Point, all meals received positive comments, the drinks menu is both extensive and comprehensive. The service is very professional and the prepare at the table meals quite theatrical and entertaining, perhaps the only negative would be the drinks service towards the end of the evening fell away a little. The Point is at the upper end in terms of price but is representative of this type of fine dining
Will definitely continue to dine at the Point

Where do I start.
The entrée, main and dessert were delicious, flavours, textures, presentation a credit to the chefs who prepared the dishes.
The service was impeccable.
Glad we returned for our Anniversary.
Highly recommend

Fantastic service, and absolutely beautiful steaks served flambe in front of our eyes! Order the steak diane, and you will not regret it. While enjoying it, soak in the beauty of the city lights around you. Love the service and the food, will definitely come again.

A visit the the revolving restaurant was a must for special occasions way back in my childhood, so this visit on a trip to Hobart, was more sentimental than aspirational. What a surprise to find The Point fully lives up to its fine dining claims. Each dish was immaculate and the service outstanding. You certainly pay for the experience and the extraordinary views, but we felt it was worth every cent. The retro "cooked at your table" options sounded like something to avoid, but no! Steak Dianne served to absolute perfection. Very Special Occassion Dinning with just a touch of the old days - the dry ice swirling round the ice cream filled chocolates made my night.

Perfect dinner for me!! Magnificent view!! it takes 77 mins for one complete rotation, by the time
You get back to the original spot, the scene would have completely changed, from daylight to night view. The food was brilliant, I was so surprise that we could find such good food in Hobart! Every element was done perfectly. The platings were beautiful, almost too precious to eat. The quails were tender and juicy inside. The duck was cooked perfectly, medium rare, perfectly seasoned and fresh. Ideal spot for proposing? ( that just happened next to us that night, and he got a "YES")

Went here for a conference dinner. The menu was set (beef or the fish) as you would expect however the dishes were not your normal conference dinner fare. Entree was 40 degree salmon with horseradish creme - beautiful and delicate. The main was a wagyu beef cheek with charred kale. Beef just fell apart and the jus was meaty and robust. Dessert was a green tea pannacotta which was firm but gooey. Very good meal with great views as the sun went down.

Ok so I planned to go here for my boyfriend's birthday. We were so excited. We got the 87 dollar three course meal which was great and the whole experience was superb. My entree and main were fantastic but my dessert which was the crepe suzette was pretty average and very soggy. It was a great experience having I cooked in front of you but I felt like there was too much orange syrup. Maybe Its just a personal preference not sure. The service was like nothing I have experienced before. Superb!! People whinge about the decor but I actually think it adds charm to it. It felt like I was in an episode of mad men. The revolving aspect of it was also quite relaxing especially once one cocktail goes down. Overall great experience.

Good food and service - we had 3 courses prawn bisque was tasty and the salmon great, creme brûlée divine. The service was very polite and friendly and we were served within a reasonable time between courses. The final Choc plate with dry ice was a nice touch and the waiter added a choc 'happy birthday' and sang a couple of happy birthday to you lines (lovely voice) and was discreet and tasteful. Great evening

This was a hit and miss dining experience, the hit was our mains were delicious however mine was too cold, the oysters were delicious, the service was outstanding! but unfortunately my prawn bisque was cold and tasted powdery and the rhubarb desert was uneatable as the rhubarb was raw as though it was pick from the garden and put straight onto the plate.

An exceptional dining experience....best enjoyed in gold hotpants. I love this restaurant, even those aspects of it that most others would consider tragic. OK, I am a little biased, as my GF is a Taswegian, and we had one of our first dinner dates here, but we return regularly (probably 10 occasions or more).

They have (and have had) some signature dishes - sadly the Point Diane steak is no longer deemed worthy of inclusion on the menu, but the crepes suzette served beside your table is always a warming experience, literally.

I have no doubt that most diners are probably not fond of the 1970's décor (although refusing to refurb has the advantages that this décor will again be en vogue in 2026) - however if you want to enjoy an exquisite meal, whilst sporting a 1970's poolboy mo, adorned with 24-carat plated necklace, and have your date skate to the table in roller blades....well, this would be an appropriate venue.

For those seeking change - try Maccas - and you will find new items on the menu, and new staff behind the counter...every time you attend. But those who like 'old fashioned' (and Tasmania is iconic for its reticence to embrace change), should really love this place. Yes, it is akin to dining out in the 70's and 80's, but I have no doubt food was as tasty back then. In the past 20+ years, I believe it has had only 2 maître' de?

I'm not going to go out on a limb and suggest everyone should go here - I think many may find it too conservative, too 'aged' or simply too pricey. But for me, I will continue to come here, and continue to enjoy the wonderful views over the Derwent (or into Sandy Bay) - depending upon point of rotation - because I was not around in the 70's to have been able to dined at such places!

If you can ignore the hideous décor, the Point Revolving Restaurant is a great place to celebrate a special occasion with your family or significant other. The quality was excellent and the presentation very good, but it isn’t the best we’ve come across in Hobart. While Franklin and Monty’s don’t have the views of the Point, everything else they offer is a cut above and they remain my go-to recommendations for any visitors to our fair shores.
Ian
Dated decor but with such great views why look at the carpet??
Great food and better service. Would come back and would def recommend
Gemma
Ok but looks like its from the 70s. Great food but they really need to upgrade the place. it looks very out dated. for a 5 star place they can at least have carpet that doesn;t look like 70s shag!!

Perfect, we make a point of dining here every year when we holiday in Hobart. 3 course set menu is always a favorite. Reasonably priced for the standard of food and service.

Never a disappointment!. Always a lovely atmosphere dining at the Point Revolving Restaurant. Apart from the fantastic views, the food and service are outstanding. The crepes suzettes a MUST! Wow - just amazing.
Richo
Fantastic. Hard to fault. Expensive, but you can't expect less than that with the location and the type of food on offer. Impeccable service by staff as well.

Outstanding service, friendly and great food.... Ok, not cheap but the chicken was great. Wouldn't say it was the best pork belly but better than average. And the whole experience with the rotating view - give it a try!

So much more than fantastic views!. The view is fabulous even if the 360 degrees rotation is a tad too fast - try to get there for the sunset. The wait staff and sommellier were knowledgeable, non obtrusive and very welcoming/friendly.

The food was really very outstanding. It was well presented and all dishes, which included fish, meat and poultry in our party of four, were perfectly cooked refer pictures. The wine list is adequate but not extensive with good selection of French listing.

All in all this was a supurb night.

Only feedback: A number of meals were being served at the table - somewhat off putting for meat mains as the cooking smells intrude on nearby tables.

Expect to pay top dollar for a top meal and location.

Definitely a restaurant for special occasions, the Point is a favourite among Hobartians for a dining experience that is consistently classy and has a character like no other.
