First stop off the plane from Melbourne Sunday morning. Food was so good. loved the chickpea avocado and my partner had the fat boy roti..the satay sauce on this dish was so yum!! Service was great. Looking forward to coming back and trying more on the menu!
Came to visit with family during a recent trip to Hobart. My parents were visiting from Italy and I wanted to let them try an Aussie brunch. We didn’t have an idea of where to eat so decided to check this place out since it had a high rating on Zomato. We weren’t disappointed! Service was friendly and speedy, food portions were huge and the feel of the place was vibrant. Well done Machine Laundry team!
Came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The cafe is cute and cozy. Plenty of seating. The staff were all lovely and inviting. Accomodating to menu changes- I just wanted simple avocado and not salsa which was not an issue. Salmon was delicious.
The food at this place was amazing! Just came for a weekend away and stumbled across this in Salamanka - Definitely recommended!
Ordered the parmesan, caramelised onion and spinach pancake and wow! Absolutely blown away, such a well thought out dish. Never had a savoury pancake before but it all worked so well with the chilli jam relish. I would highly recommend this dish and it comes with 3 beautiful stacks to satisfy your hunger.
Went there to have a coffee before going to the work and trust me they service best in kind. Really haven't had that good coffee in a while and they really made my day. Thank you guys and keep spreading your taste.
Service was quick and so polite and friendly. I ordered Thom’s Thing which came with a huge mound of chickpeas and guacamole, tomato, spinach and halloumi on a thick sourdough toast. I was blown away by the size and it was very enjoyable.
The menu hasn't changed in the 3+ years I've lived near it but they do good eggs and it's one of my fave spots to sit for Sunday brunch and people watch
Very tasty food and the place has a nice feel to it. Could be a bit more exciting in terms of interior but either way the food was exceptional. We got two fat boys and hazelnut lattes and didn’t regret. Will come back again!
Food is good for Hobart, but hard to impress people come from Melbourne. Waiting staff are very friendly and nice but seem new to the business.
Much better than I expected, simple food with great taste. I older the hot chocolate which not too sweet and have different layers. Great choice for breakfast
Cute and quirky cafe! It was exceptionally busy being a Sunday however staff were very prompt. Ordered the simple poached eggs and a latte for breakfast and they were great. Loved the use of the old school plates, pretty sure my grandmother still uses those! Would visit again when going back to Hobart to try the other things on their menu.
Great coffee, delicious porridge and friendly service! Will definitely be back and will recommend to friends. The location is also in a fantastic area.
The egg Benedict tastes great! I choose to sit outside, bathing in sunshine. There are many sea mews flying above the square. The waitress’s nice. Strongly recommend here to start a good day.
Believe the hype!! This place is sensational!! Servings are good size and value for money. I had the chicken bacon roti with satay sauce omgggg the flavours are just divine. Every mouthful was enjoyable. The service and ambience is great. Sitting in the sun overlooking Salamanca square. A must visit in Hobart!
Visited this cute cafe after a few recommendations from friends and reviews on Zomato during my visit to Hobart.
It definitely did not disappoint. The service was great and the food was just exceptional. The food may seem expensive for certain items however the portion sizes are quite generous so it all balances out in the end!
We ordered the pulled pork sanga and the fat boy. Both of these dishes stood out equally and we were stoked with our choices!
I would recommend this place to anyone who is on a hunt for a cute and cosy brunch place!
Public holiday in Tas so we were forced to cross the bridge yet again to find solace in cappuccinos and croissants..ok we didn’t do croissant but we did do the Fat Boy and the Roti scrambled eggs which was divine.
The coffee was bloody bloody marvelous. Carbo-child had the banana bread and for $8 it’s worth it. Two thick beautifully warmed pieces of bread with the cram and caramel sauce on the side. Once he’s realized that the banana won’t jump out and actually fiber-rise him
(real word) he ate it and fought off the tentacles of two parents looks for some sweetness.
Never regret this spot.
We decided to go here for lunch after I saw the reviews on Zomato and Trip advisor. It's a really nice cafe at the corner of Salamanca square, where there is a laundry too. Other than reviews what attracted us to the cafe was the menu.
We had the soup of the day which was a lentil soup which tasted very similar to Indian dal. We also had the vegetarian burger and the a quinoa, feta and avocado salad. The salad too was on the special's. The vegetarian burger patty was a bit dry that could be because of the chickpeas. The salad though was really nice.
The portion sizes are really good and the staff are nice. It was a really nice lunch.

Had the eggs royale, it was lovely and loved the hazelnut milkshake. Sour dough was nice and crunchy. Generous amount of food on the plate which I struggled to finish. Only thing was that the mushrooms on the side were not very well seasoned or fried.
I give 4 rating based on experience, service, and the situation of the place.
What I am ordering is Eggs Royale and Dutch Chocolate,
food is nice, egg Benedict is perfectly cooked, hot chocolate rather I say its warm chocolate a bit disappointed here but its ok.
Drinking glass for water a bit dirty on the outside.
Service is good and staff is friendly
Summary :
All excellent except the part that my hot chocolate is actually warm chocolate and a bit dirty glass.
4/5
Literally haven’t got a single bad thing to say about this place. I mean, go check it out. It’s got real washing machines in it! What a brilliant idea to go out and enjoy some nice brunch while taking care of your laundry (lol, don’t know if they actually work). And don’t you just love the brunch places where every waiter was so upbeat and charismatic? And the food. God, the Benedict I ordered reminded me of the good old Chinese burritos I used to have at home, which is a very high compliment!
Had breakfast here a couple of times over the last week and found the food to be excellent, the coffee and the service could sometimes be hit and miss. Worth a visit though if you’re looking for somewhere to kick back and watch the activity in Salamanca square.
Overall good, but standard breakfast and lunch food. Nothing original. Coffee was below average: weak, served not at the correct temperature.
Seeing such high reviews we expected extraordinary food and coffee, but got disappointed with the lack of originality of the menu and standard execution of the meals.
In short, if you are happy with well prepared poached eggs on toast with smoked salmon or bacon, and you don't have an acquired taste for coffee, this place is for you. If you expect to be impressed with some original, delicious breakfast inventions, you might look elsewhere.
In summary I would rate food 4/5 and coffee 3.5/5
We couldn't figure out why is this cafe so highly rated. Lack of other quality cafes in Hobart for comparison perhaps?
The concept of the cafe is really amazing - enjoy the food while your clothes are getting washed. Yes there is a laundry next to the cafe so there is a double benefit of having breakkie here. The haloumi burger was scrumptious. Definitely a must visit in Hobart. The serve and ambience was good too.
Ambience - 4/5
Value for Money - 4/5
Service - 4/5
Food - 4.5/5
First meal in Tassie after landing and we were very excited after seeing such a high rating here. The interior is very unique and staff were very nice.
We ordered the eggs benedict and roti with an iced chocolate and iced chocolate. The roti was different and enjoyed thanks to the soft but chewy roti and herbed scrambled eggs inside. The chilli jam was a bit too sweet for our taste though. The eggs benedict was average for a brunch place, nothing special. The drinks were well made and the paper straws was a good touch!
As a Melbourne brunch fanatic, my expectations are always high when it comes to all day breakfast joints. At Machine Laundry Cafe, these expectations were exceeded! The menu offered reasonably priced, subtle twists on brunch classics, including my own smashed avo served with chickpeas and grilled haloumi on garlic sourdough. Shout out to the funky 50s interior vibe of the cafe, which stands alongside an actual coin laundry.
The interior decor is very eye catching and different to your cliche minimalistic cafe setting.
Standout dish was definitely the seared tuna bruschetta - packed full of flavour with a good hit of chilli and served very generously.
Also ordered the mushroom bruschetta which was lovely as well.
Only thing, the staff weren’t very welcoming and didn’t direct us to seats as a lot of the time they were busy talking amongst themselves..
I liked this Cafe, very casual great music playing (if you like retro pop loud)
Staff were fantastic, Coffee was good and they have a great menu, I had the fruit loaf which was served with honey and ricotta a delicious combination
Resist yourself from entering into the restaurants that you see on the main road of Salamanca Pl and reach this place because, your taste buds are definitely worth a visit to this cafe. They don't have a menu with a lot of collections but the ones that are on it are delicious. Beautiful coffee, healthy and filthy options of breakfast and brunch dishes. They also have an option of half serve for every dish. What is not to love about that! Sourdough with avocado and chickpea salsa and grilled halloumi cheese is their best dish.
Service is good, was quickly seated. Ordered the fat boy and bruschetta, dishes served very quickly although the cafe was busy big plus.
Fat boy (huge portion) - Peanut sauce is very good, essentially it's satay sauce. Would prefer the roti to be more soft instead of chewy.
Bruschetta - Slow cooked lamb is always a safe bet if you are used to lamb taste, tender and juicy. Everything on the plate is perfectly balanced.
Cheerful staffs all around even in the kitchen, if you want a good brunch just be here.
Thumbs up for such a unique menu, loved the breakie with bful surroundings.
My fav item in menu was mental lentil and had one of the nice coffees in town.
We visited his cafe due to the high rating, however felt that the poached eggs and bacon and salmon was of average quality and not outstanding. The coffee was nice and great service, however due to the simplicity of the menu and product it was nothing above average.
Great coffee & food, huge portion sizes. Cute fit out in a repurposed laundry. The service is friendly and efficient. Recommend the grilled halloumi- so perfectly cooked!
I come here every time I come back to Hobart! Yummy vegan options (the toms thing made vegan is 👌🏽), fabulous staff and a really cute place!!!!
Came here twice for breakfast while visiting Hobart and both meals were terrific. The brioche french toast in particular was just sensational. The staff is friendly and the service quick. They also have booster seats for babies. Just a really nice place to sit, relax and eat.
Came here with friends and my baby. Absolutely delightful staff, great amboence. Had the porridge which was so delicious I’ve been thinking of it every day since. Giant muffin and pulled pork burrito bowls were delicious also. Will definitely come again next time in Hobart!
Family and I visited Hobart, and we decided to stop by this cafe located in Salamanca Square after we landed. We had a late lunch here and ordered 4 dishes to share between the 5 of us. The portion size for the food was very generous and we were glad we decided to share,if not we wouldn't be able to finish all our dishes. We tried the mental lentil, parmesan & pancetta pancakes, pulled pork sandwich hotcakes(but with the french toast toppings, since they ran out of brioche bread). The pulled pork was on the tad salty side, but otherwise the dishes were pretty good. Love the retro setting of the cafe.
Excellent food and service. The idea of putting coffee in a bowl is more than excellent that I finally find one Cafe that so generous to beat the fake sophistication of drinking coffee in a small potion. The menu is a little pricy but worth to spend if you are seeking for a special brunch.
It was good. Staff were incredibly friendly. Yum yum. Fat boy turned my gf into a fat boy. I had a machine packed roti bread with extra bacon very well cooked eggs and bacon it was yum.
Saw this highly rated cafe in Zomato and decided to try it on our last day in Hobart. This place is also a working machine laundry shop hence the name! We ordered the eggs Royale and Fat John. The Royale was your average brunch staple and nothing too special. The Fat John is more unique because you don't often see that in brunch places. The peanut sauce was executed well and wasn't that heavy on the overall meal.
Let’s be honest, if a place has a rating of 4.9 on Zomato, you’re going to want to go there. And Machine Coin Laundry did not disappoint: the service was fast and attentive; the coffee was delicious - you can even get a bowl if a mug just won’t cut it; and the food... ahh the food.
The food was well priced, the serves were huge and best of all, what was on the menu was what you got e.g. spicy chorizo was actually spicy. It was a struggle to choose what to order. I ended up getting ‘the old new egg dish’, which was scrambled eggs with feta throughout, topped with rocket and spicy chorizo, and on top of a beetroot relish and the thickest slice of bread I’ve ever seen. My partner got the pulled pork sandwich which was the largest pulled pork sandwich I’ve ever seen, with a generous amount of cheese and cucumbers included. Both were delicious and we weren’t hungry again until dinner.
Again, I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Hobart to have breakfast/brunch/lunch here - and if we hadn’t gone here on our last day, we would have been there more than once.
Service: friendly and prompt, made adjustments for my allergy
Food: house made granola was full of nuts, dried apricot, coconut and dates! Would have liked a bit more oats. Chai was fantastic.
Went to this cafe for breakfast because of the extraordinary high score. It was busy on a Wednesday morning, it's obviously popular. While other cafes on Salamanca Square had sun on their terrace (which I love), I went here and sat inside (there terrace was in the shade). Ordered a mixed smoothie and the porridge. Both were huge. I was really hungry (that's probably why I ordered both these things). I literally could not finish either of them and was completely stuffed. I would have been happy with smaller portions. I might be wrong but I am usually a big eater, but on the photos I see that all their portions are quite big. I wonder whether most people eat all their food, or whether there is a lot of waste.
Flavours of smoothie and food were ok. The porridge was very sweet. The crispy almonds on the top were really nice!
Service was friendly, but a bit overly friendly, it didn't seem genuine. But that's better than unfriendly of course!
We really loved our food here and our waitresses was particularly lovely. TheFat Boy was a really odd combination but it worked. The Old New EGG however was my favourite, deliciously crispy bread and cheesy eggs
Food: I don't see why they have 4.9 rating on Zomato if their food is just standard and nothing wow about them. Ordered the fat boy and egg benny. The fat boy is NOT the most perfect combo with the sauce on top of the wrap whereas for the egg benny is yummy but lacking of greens which you'll need to add on for an extra $4
Ambiance: is alright can be crowded
Service: is friendly. I had some grease on my cup and they're quick to replace a new ones
I consider myself a Melbourne cafe snob so they do lose some points for not using Bonsoy, but I'll be damned if their haloumi wasn't the best I've literally ever had.
A rather bizarre set up really combining with a Laundry but the food is fantastic and its always busy. Great coffee and the sourdough is my favourite.
I went to the Machine Laundry Cafe for a quick breakfast before I caught the ferry to MONA.
I ordered the poached eggs on sourdough with smoked salmon and roasted tomatoes. The eggs were cooked to perfection, the sourdough was chunky and pre buttered (nothing worse than trying to butter toast with cold butter). Salmon was good and the roast tomatoes, which had dried herbs on them, were great.
The piccola was pretty good too.
The service is very friendly.
Busy place on weekend mornings. Full tables and food looks great. Takeaway coffees hit the spot on a cold Hobart winter morning. Will be back to try the menu out!
Ordered the halloumi dish from the specials board, the Fat Boy and the mushroom risotto. Everything was pretty good but the risotto tasted a bit bland.
The atmosphere there is reallly nice and the food portion is really big! Definitely a nice place to have brunch, where you'll be full after as well. Highly recommended!
My husband and I popped in here for brunch after a long walk around Battery Point. My husband had several flat whites and said it was the best coffee he'd had in Hobart so far; I got a pot of tea which was also fab. The food was mouth-wateringly hearty and fabulous. Both of us had Eggs Benedict with spinach and caramelised onions, mine with gluten-free bread. The hollandaise was creamy and lemony goodness, and gluten-free which is rare to find in such a yummy creamy sauce. Their muesli and pancakes looked amazing too. We'll be back.
A nice place with a very unique concept. The food was good i love the egg royal, and coffee is great too :)
Really had a good time in here and will come back here again for next trip to Hobart ☺️☺️
Machine Laundry Cafe is one of those trendy places that really don’t need to try to hard to attract a busy crowd. With a winning concept, there is always a line up of both locals and visitors waiting for a quick bite. The name says it all, this is a coin laundromat/cafe where you can get your laundry done and get a cheap bite to eat while you wait.
Good food and coffee and there are washing machines here! The menu mainly consist of usual breakfast items with a few strange but good creations. Hidden gem !
The porridge was suprisingly tasty. Nothing I would normally order for breakfast in a cafe, however are seeing a photo on a past review, I was hopeful. It definitely didn't disappoint! The only difference is the other photo I saw had a crumb on top which i think would have pushed this rating up higher.
The vegetarian burger is very tasty. Definitely grab this if you are popping by!

The tiramisu brioche is the bomb!
The spinach pancakes were delicious complemented with the sauce.
Friendly servers and quick service.
Went there at sunny sunday; day made.
Funky cafe with very highly rated reviews. I tried it and thought it was decent but not outstanding. The hot chocolate came with marshmellows which was a nice touch. The Fat Boy was certainly large in size but was really salty.
Amazing food, friendly service, good prices! Also quirky atmosphere creates unique vibes! And most importantly you can do your laundry while you enjoy a meal.
Had the chickpea halumi avocado which was really yum! Also the eggs Florentine was nice and we had the hotcakes too - found them quite sickly, the salted caramel almost tasted a bit burnt and not quite right, didn't enjoy this dish. Food was quite quick considering how busy it was. Coffee frappe was yum! I think they haven't quite hit the mark with the decor, going for an indie kind of look but some aspects look a little tacky. Overall good experience though!
Great components thrown together for a really tasty breakfast. Backed up by well made coffee. Best gluten free rust on town with perfectly made scrambled eggs and Haloumi dark brown outside and gooey inside.
Went for a Sunday brekkie and the wait for two people was not bad at all - just about 5 mins. Service was quick and everyone was quite friendly. Beware of the giant muffins...they are literally giant. I'll still be eating it tomorrow! The French toast is super sweet with the chocolate ganache, so if you're looking for a sweet treat, that is the meal. Wouldn't say it's deserving of an almost 5 star rating, but the food and service were pretty quality.
A very busy cafe located in Salamanca with as the name suggests, laundry machines right next to the dining area. In terms of food, the Machine Packed roti bread with scrambled eggs and chilli jam was interesting but not a personal favourite. The Mental Lentil (spiced vegetable and lentil patty burger) was pretty good though. My favourite part was the Dutch hot chocolate though which was very good!! They have both indoor and outdoor seating but when it rains, the cover outdoors needs improvement.
Our favourite place for breakfast in Hobart possibly Tas. (Of all the places we have been) Simple fresh ingredients perfect coffee and quirky decor. Oh and staff were great - this should be on the to do list for anyone visiting Tas
Fantastic customer service and the food was delicious! We were running out of time before our ferry and they not only found us a table, but prioritized our order so that we made it to the ferry with plenty of time! Highly recommended!
Recommended by friends. Went for breakfast Saturday morning. Had to wait for a table. Breakfast average. Service average. Coffee decent. Nothing special.
They have a g reat brunch/lunch menu. Definitely try "Thom's thing" with grilled halloumi, spinach, tomato, onion and avocado. Decent coffee as well.
The egg benedict here is perfect and combined with a delicious choc & walnut brownie, makes this a must visit restaurant in the City of Hobart!!!
Finally got to eat here was very good I had eggs and salmon with hollindaise . My daughter had pumpkin fritters yum ! Only one small thing there was way to much garlic in the mayo for breakfast , but we will defiantly be back next trip
A great cafe tucked away in salamanca square. There were ~60 diners there and we secured the only free table! I ordered the eggs florentine and my wife the smashed avo, chickpea and halloumi. Not a bad place! Thanks!
We went to Machine Laundry Cafe based on its good reviews. It had an interesting retro laundromat look and was in a good location by the Salamanca Market. We tried the hot cakes and the old new egg dish. The old new egg dish was very generously topped with feta scrambled eggs. Like many other reviews have mentioned, the beetroot relish was heavy-handed, but I didn't mind. The sourdough was easy to cut and made a good base for the dish. It looked like a small portion, but was quite filling. The hot cakes were good, although better for someone with a sweet tooth. I found the sauce to be overly sweet. We enjoyed our meal except the coffee. We're not Melbourne coffee snobs, but one of our flat whites came out very watery and different tasting from the other. We asked for it to be remade and they obliged, but the new one was just barely better. Overall, their food was good, but their coffee wasn't.
The Machine Laundry Cafe isn't your typical cafe. As the name states, it does have a working laundry attached, which oddly sets quite a cool vibe. Once again, I simply couldn't pass the Eggs Benedict with Bacon. Overall, the bacon was crisp, the hollandaise sauce was fresh and flavoursome, and the sourdough was perfectly toasted. The coffee was good and the staff were friendly. Definitely worth a visit.
We arrived for lunch today (Sunday) and very busy but they were able to organize a table inside (just 3 of us) as the only other seats were outside in the not so friendly to red head skin sunshine :-)
We ordered the Lamb Sanga, The Fat Boy Wrap and the Raspberry Pancakes - everything was delicious. The lamb was some of the best we have ever eaten (and we eat lamb a lot). The Fat Boy was full of freshly grilled chicken and the satay sauce was tasty without being too spicy. The pancakes were a delicious mix of raspeberries, ricotta, spiced apples and the syrup that would rival anything straight from a Canadian Maple Tree. Yes they were super busy but staff were all attentive and friendly - love this place - thanks :-)
Chose this place based on reviews and the reputation Tassie has for being a foodie place. Whilst it's certainly above average it's not quite in the same league as Melbourne or Adelaide for food.
The cafe was very busy on the Monday brunch time we visited and the staff were efficient and busy, too busy for any real warmth, fair enough. The location is lovely, in a square at Salamanca Place, it manages to appeal to a wide variety of diners. The menu is extensive and we ordered and shared a variety of dishes. All executed well but just lacking flavour. The sourdough bread under our scrambled eggs was soggy with the beetroot relish (which was yum but a bit heavy handed), and yet impossible to cut, leaving me with sore hands. Yes. Ok, FWP, we had a laugh about it. I think the avos are just not so great down in southern Au (you gotta let the tropics have something superior when it comes to food), so I won't judge the Avo dishes too harshly (although fresh herbs with salt, pepper and lemon could lift things) The pancakes were yum, coffee good.
Went there for lunch last week whilst visiting Tas. Very popular and busy but the friendly staff coped well. We both enjoyed our dishes and the atmosphere though frantic, was well managed. Lovely location within Salamanca Square off Salamanca Place.
