Review Rockwall Bar And Grill - Hobart

Michael Wagner
Coffee Rub Eye Fillet came highly recommended and was outstanding. Started with a dozen mixed oysters between 3 of us. They were so good we had another dozen. Desserts were equally good. Great service too. Recommended.

What an amazing experience! The location/venue is on point! The staff where extremely friendly, accommodating and very good at their jobs! The food was next level! Can recommend the (Reef & Beef and also the Maple Syrup Pork Cutlets)! The food & drinks menu what a great size and the restroom/ other facilities where great! I recommend Rockwall for sure!

Never fails to deliver. Been there many many times when in town. Great service, food is awesome. Try the Lobster pate. Worth every cent.

My partner and I went here for dinner and the service was amazing - very friendly and attentive staff. We ordered the pork belly and quail to start and for mains we had the reef and beef and the crispy skin chicken breast. The food was amazing and the cocktails were divine. The sticky date pudding we shared for dessert was heavenly. Would have given 5 stars but we ordered chips to come with our mains which we never received but were almost charged for. Other than that, everything was fabulous.
Michael Watson
A thoroughly enjoyable dining experience! All the food was delicious and well prepared. Lots of good options on the menu, and reasonably priced for what you get. Staff were very friendly, helpful, and attentive. The venue was atmospheric and well decorated. Would easily come back again for a quality meal, or a special occasion.
Janet Outterside
Lovely restaurant, good service, Had yellow vegetable curry, it was good but a little too spicy for me personally.
Eastina Zhang
Attentive service and fresh ingredients! We ordered the steak and risotto as mains and they didn’t disappoint. Highly recommend Rockwall if you are looking for a nice dinner out in Salamanca

Nice place for quite and delightful cuisines in Salamanca place. The place is usually busy, please make sure you book in advance. Staff is really helpful and cheerful.

Great atmosphere, extremely friendly staff and the food was phenomenal. I went on a Tuesday night (on my own), it was booked out but they still found me a place to sit. Service was great and staff were very attentive. If I had to recommend one thing it would be a steak with their signature "coffee rub", couldn't recommend this place enough

Just had the most amazing meal here. Food was fantastic. Compliments to the wait staff for outstanding service. Compliments to the kitchen staff for exquisite food. And special thanks to the owner for the lift home. Couldn't recommend Rockwall highly enough. We will definitely be back on our next trip. A must do dining experience if you are in Hobart

I loved Rockwall the service was pristine and the food was amazing, I had a scotch fillet (small portion) with a coffee and herb rub (medium rear) cooked to perfection. I wish I had of ordered the bigger portion it was so good and filling but the taste was so good I wanted more!!! Can't wait to go back

The staff were excellent, the oysters were the best I have ever had and the steak was cooked to perfection. Great value kids meals would definitely recommend coming here for dinner. Was quite busy, may pay to make a reservation (we walked in and were lucky to get a table).

Food was lovely. We had a large party so we're put in private room upstairs. Winter ❄️ in Hobart a bit cold and the room upstairs not enough heaters and because food is brought upstairs the door was open all night on to the Salamanca place. Ladies had to keep Coates on and today I have a cold 🤧 but food and company were brilliant

The good, the bad and the UGLY! We booked Rock Wall for my mum's 60th birthday. Unfortunately they did not deliver on expectations at all. Starting with the ugly: when booking with Tarryn she told me that she'd sit us upstairs - a nice open space where we could enjoy dinner. I informed Tarryn that my party included some elderly people and asked her how many stairs and whether they were steep. Tarryn led me to believe that there was 7 to 10 stairs and they weren't that steep. INCORRECT! When my grandparents arrived they could not get upstairs- there are more like 15 to 20 steps and they are very steep. When we enquired about whether they had a lift or alternate access they said no. All they could offer was to sit my grandparents down in the bottom restaurant as long as they were out by 7.30pm. Further, after eating their meals (away from the party) they were fast tracked out the door. They then had the audacity to ask whether they would like to leave a tip when paying! When making such bookings Rock Wall should clearly state the accessibility of the upstairs restaurant. It is not acceptable for guests to be embarrassed by being in this situation - and believe me my grandparents were embarrassed. The bad: for a restaurant that prides itself on delivering delicious steaks, they far from delivered. On set menu 3 you have the option of a porterhouse steak. It was cooked to order - great, however the steak did not taste like it had been seasoned and the accompaniments were bland. The desserts were delicious and the starters were ok - the pork belly was overpoweringly sweet. The good: our waitress Meg was fantastic.

Everything about this place is fantastic! Service, food , drinks , atmosphere . Would highly recommend this place

Great food and fantastic staff. We had our own personal waiter, Rehn, who was an absolute legend, recommended a beautiful local rose wine to go with our dinner and was spot on! Thanks!

Great place, great service. Not to be confused with The rockpool - this place is much nicer, consider and the food is awesome. Thanks to Gary and his staff for the hospitality. Will be back again for sure
Michelle Clark
Arrived without a booking on a very busy Saturday night. Gary advised we could be seated but had to be gone for a large booking in 1 and 1/2 hours.. No problem . Nothing was a problem . The best oysters ever .. beautiful steak .. fast service , too fast , but our fault for not booking.. will certainly be back with a reservation to enjoy the perfect food ,service and to and sit and enjoy the ambiance.
Craig Simmons
Had a fantastic meal there with the family on Saturday night.Service was first class and the meals were excellent. The seafood chowder was the best I have ever had.Highly recommended!!!
Danny McGowan
Had the best dinner at the Rockwall tonight, 8 steaks cooked perfectly, drinks delicious, friendly & understanding staff. The waitress's did really well to put up with a group of 8 that were celebrating a recently passed loved one. Thanks Rockwall!

I was a street walk in after researching best eats in Hobart as had a few hours to spare before catching a flight home after work meetings. Though very booked (and dressed in active wear, not really appropriate for this restaurants setting) I was still warmly welcomed and accommodated and grateful as had heard great things about Rockwall and wanted to try myself. I was not dissapointed. The service and the food was amazing. Would definately return and recommend to others visiting Hobart. Thank you to the staff that attended me, keep up the great work.
Lawree Scott
Wow we came in off the street with no booking so glad we did from the moment we arrived service was 10/10 and the food of you want the best Rib eye on the bone 500g this is the place to go just the best thanks for a great night
Brandon McGillvery
Excellent service, polite and friendly staff. Highly recommend the coffee rubbed steak! Will definitely be back again and again

The lobster pate was delicious. The steak was great quality and cooked perfectly.

The wagyu porterhouse steak I had was a piece of shit. I asked for a medium rare steak but they gave me an overcooked one. They insist that was ‘Australian medium rare’ so they refused change to another main for us. This wagyu doesn’t worth for $60. Its a scam.

Tuesday night and the place was pumping. Friendly staff with reasonable service. Mussel entree was excellent with a decent steak to follow. Steak haus ambience, a staple.

A bitter disappointment after a number of positive recommendations is all I can say about our experience at Rockwall Bar and Grill. We dined at this restaurant on Battery Point as part of a friend's birthday celebration.<br/><br/>It was a semi-busy evening (the restaurant was about half full) and we were seated at long tables toward the back of the venue. We were fairly tightly packed, and I was bumped many times by staff making their way backwards and forwards serving other diners. At one point a waitress carrying a platter hit me in the back if the head with the tray, looked at me, said nothing, then continued on her way. I was stunned at the rudeness... Not even a "Sorry 'bout that."<br/><br/>I ordered the "Rockwall Share Platter for Two, consisting of "salt & pepper calamari, pork belly + tempura prawns." I asked a waitress whether or not this item - listed as an Entree - was suitable for a main and she replied that it was. At $38 and the claim it was a "share platter" I thought the meal would be of a reasonable size. The dish was a small entree in anybody's language and I was stunned at the size for the price tag. However, I would have worn the small serving if the quality of the food reflected the price tag... But it did far from that. The pork was reasonably tender, but the skin was not crispy and the portion was very small (as pictured). The calamari was overcooked and had a burnt flavour. The tempura prawns had a thick, gluggy batter - unlike the typical light tempura batter I am accustomed to in other restaurants and eateries.<br/><br/>In all, the flavours were ordinary, the size of the dish for the price was small, and the calamari was burned. A very disappointing dining experiemce.<br/><br/>My fiancee had the roast duck, which was very dry and tough - very poorly cooked. We have had better quality duck in all-you can eat buffet restaurants. We didn't expect that at Rockwall. The potato mash was bland and as the photos show the presentation of the meal and vegetables appeared lazily prepared and visually unappealing.<br/><br/>The photo of the rocket, pear and parmesan side salad we ordered speaks for itself. It was bitterly disappointing. It looked like rocket had been doused in oil and thrown in a small bowl. Was hard to find any pear or parmesan - disgraceful.<br/><br/>A friend ordered the seafood hot-pot and said it was completely bland. Others ordered the Yellow Thai Vegetable Curry and all could not finish their meals because they said it was far too spicy. Now, some of these were Filipinos who grow up eating raw chillis - so that's saying a lot about how hot the spices were.<br/><br/>Add to that the fact that we waited more than an hour for our meals to be served and this was a forgettable dining experience. The staff were rude and even when I approached the manager about all of our meals she was more interested in making excuses than listening to the feedback. Poor cooks, bad food, rude staff - we will never eat here again. While this restaurant often rates highly, this was without doubt one of the worst restaurant experiences I have had to date.

My husband and I were on our honeymoon in Hobart, and decided to treat ourselves after reading good reviews about this place. We ordered the rib eye with their signature coffee rub, and a porterhouse steak with mushroom sauce. We also ordered the seafood chowder for entree. After putting in the order, we were told the chowder had sold out during lunch service. To add to our disappointment, the steaks did not meet our expectation.<br/><br/>The rib eye was overly bitter and charred (could not taste the caramelisation of the coffee rub as mentioned by waitress), the meat was tough (we asked for medium) and flavourless. They forgotten to bring out the herb butter, and by the time we remembered and asked for it, the steak had cooled down and we had a solid buttery mess on the steak. On the plate, there were only 2 small cubes of potato, and 2 half-strands of sad-looking brocollini. The mushroom sauce that came with the porterhouse steak was underwhelming as it was watery and diluted, where was the cream?<br/><br/>Overall we were dissatisfied with the meal and we expected more for the price....we've had far better steak at the local pub.
Nika Belobrajdic
Service was good but slow, about an hour to get our food. Food was incredibly underwhelming, very small portion sizes and everyone at my table felt their meals were super bland. Not worth the price at all.

Was a great dining experience and atmosphere was cosy and warm with great decor upstairs. Staff were the best of all the places we visited in Hobart, very friendly and attentive and were so accommodating for severe food allergies.<br/>The menu had a lot of variety with something for everyone with great flavours and an obviously experienced head chef. I'd recommend this place to anyone wanting a classy dining experience with good atmosphere and food.
Andrew
If you’re looking for a good steak, then I’ll recommend this place. I would have given them a 4 but a few minor setbacks. Wait staff were a little inexperienced and rude. They had a vegetarian risotto online but apparently they had just changed the menu and it wasn’t on the list! We had an eye fillet and a vegetarian curry - DO NOT GO THERE FOR VEGGIE!❌.<br/>Go there for the steak✅!!! Amazing! The host was accomodating as he moved us due to too much smoke from the kitchen and we couldn’t breathe. All in all, a good night.

Amazing food and great friendly staff and service. We walked in without a reservation and we had the fish of the day. Very accommodating despite a busy resturant and a hot day.

Took my partner here for his birthday dinner during our time in Tassie (we’re from Melb). We were really impressed. The staff were all really lovely and happy to chat and give us tips on where to go and what to do when we told them we were from Melb. Ordered a scotch fillet and an eye fillet steak, both with the coffee rub. Holy shit! This stuff is DELICIOUS!! Does not need a sauce on the side...the coffee rub makes the meat so tender and has a slight sweet taste to it. Honesty incredible! Had sticky date and banoffee pie for dessert. YUMMM!! <br/>All in all - ambience, staff, service and food were top notch!! Highly recommend!!

The food here is amazing. Great local produce and well cooked. Staff are friendly. We had dinner in a function room which was a bit cramped but the place was otherwise lovely.

My favourite place to have dinner in Hobart. The lobster pate is heavenly and the steak with the coffee rub is possibly the best steak I have ever eaten! I always get a side of their roasted potato. The staff are so lovely as well !
Fraser Walker
Arguably the best steak I've had. The prices were lower than expected! Great service and great ambiance. Will definitely be here next time I'm in town!

I've been to Rockwall many times over the years, and every time I'm back in Hobart I have to squeeze in a visit. I was last here on Father's day, and again it was superb as always. The Coffee-rub Cape Grim Rib Eye (regular special) is just an absolute treat. The shallot butter it's served with really makes it sing. The Rock-Lobster Pate is super decadent but I haven't met (or would like to) anyone who hasn't been able to finish it. To top it off the hospitality of the staff is wonderful. Always friendly and attentive even when the place is getting slammed. Do yourself a favour and enjoy a superb experience.

Hard for me to seperate this Restaurant from the one next door both are great. Steaks are extremely good and its always busy so make sure you book even on weeknights.
Steve Roy
This is one of the best restaurants I have been to in Tasmania. Great ambiance supported with terrific service. A great selection of fine wines from both Tasmania and the rest of Australia. The Tasmanian Rock Lobster Pate' was truly amazing. The menue highlights the very best of Tassie produce ranging from Bruny Island Oysters through to Amazing steaks.
Queen Of Food
A nice restaurant in the food hub of Hobart! I had the special of blue eye trevalla with a potato rosti and greens. I thought this was delicious! The fish was perfectly cooked and had a wonderful subtle flavour and was perfectly accompanied. We visited on a Monday night and the restaurant was packed so definitely is a crowd favourite with locals and tourists.

Visited here for a staff farewell dinner<br/>Small meal size but very tasty and presented well. Nice desserts.<br/>Over all opinion Bigger meal for less price at the Ball and Chain to the same quality.
Linton Marchant
We had a fantastic meal , my wife had the coffee rub eye fillet and I had the pork rack fantastic best steak and the pork was bloody brilliant . We even came back 2 nights later , my wife had the steak again , I had the twice roasted duck , just as nice . We had the best service and would recommend the upstairs dinning room. The staff would have to be the best we have experienced . You have got to try the smashed meringue , we did , both nights . Defiantly will be back . Cheers
Ryan
I had the eye fillet with blue cheese and would have to say that it was the best steak I have eaten to date.<br/>The warm, friendly staff made us feel very comfortable.<br/>The setting, the amazing food and the great service makes Rockwall close to if not the best dining experience I have had.
Umesh Ratnagobal
A hard one to review this. Great service from the staff and one of the dishes was nice (not fantastic but nice). <br/><br/>The oysters were good - again nothing to write home about but serviceable.<br/><br/>Unfortunately my steak was not a great cut of meat, with sinewy all through it. At $44 you probably expect a bit more quality. The peppercorn sauce was watery and lacked much flavour while the chips were very salty and overcooked.<br/><br/>The second dish was the trevalla with potato rosti which was actually quiet nice. However I feel for a place that advertises itself as a Grill, the quality of steak is important.
Millie
Absolutely amazing food and service, the coffee rub steak was outstanding. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be returning again.
Renee Chan
Had a great meal here while visiting tassie. Quick professional service; very welcoming and friendly <br/>The specialty coffee dry rub they ot on their steak is highly recommended. The duck dish was okay, a bit bland compared to the steak that really wowed us. Overall though we enjoyed our meal and...
Jay Contor
Was tough to score this one to be honest...<br/><br/>Things we loved: the Wagyu Porterhouse special (with coffee rub and garlic butter) was to die for, the Rhubarb Bavarios and Ferrero Rocher ice cream desserts were full of flavour and not too heavy, staff friendly and warm.<br/><br/>Things we didn't love as much: although classy and sophisticated interior, it is slightly aged, a tad pricey considering the accompanying sides aren't too filling, seated Salmon with Thai broth was a very good meal but probably felt short of our expectations - just lacked that wow factor.<br/><br/>Overall, though, a very enjoyable experience and if you can afford it, it's definitely worth a crack. Good night life around for after too - bars, wine bars, outdoor places with heaters, HB dessert cafe all in the Salamanca Sq region, etc..
ChippityChirp
Ate in their upstairs room, which appears to be former storage space but converted into a bar and dining area (not sure that it's fire-safe though...). Unfortunately there is a 45min wait for their pork loin so we were all starving by the time food arrived. However, the pork loin was the best dish of the lot - slightly over-salted but the meat was soft and tender. The porterhouse steak and scotch fillet were cooked perfectly to medium-rare but a bit too charred on the outside. Their burger was by far a let-down as the beef patty was dry/hard and overpriced ($26) for what they served.
Derrick
Excellent. We were in a large group, Saturday night no booking but they arranged space for us. Garlic bread was very nice as entree, so creamy. I had a battered fish, homemade tartar sauce was great. Sticky date pudding for desert, it was so rich in flavour, perfect for a cold rainy day. Waiter was very good, good at small talk, knew all about fish, next time I go to Hobart I will be coming back.
Dani
A very nice place to dine, staff were very knowledgeable and professional. The oysters where divine the scotch fillet (cooked medium) was perfect the deserts where nice, unfortunately the duck was ordinary.
Ray Bellette
Great food , good service , good value . Great location and quite busy for a Monday night. The Risotto was excellent and not too big. Certainly going back next time we are in Hobart<br/>
NTLS
Attentive and excellent service even in a really busy Saturday night. My go to restaurant everytime we are in Hobart. Great ambience, still can manage to have a decent conversation althought all of the tables were occupied. We had really tasty Lobster Pate as appetizer. The Wagyu steak here is one of the best we ever had. Lamb rump was beautifully cooked, hence the couscous was a little bit bland. Got Chocolate fondant pudding and Turkish delight pannacota with fairy floss for dessert, both were nicely presented, Rose Water Syrop in the pannacota was a bit too sweet, however still lovely as a whole. Don't believe in the negative review until you experience this restaurant by yourself.
Kirstiva
First night in Hobart the boy decided steak was in order although quite a pricey restaurant the food was lovely. For starters we had pork belly although a small serving it was beautiful, I wouldn't suggest the chicken breast as it was little dry, however my partner had the wagu steak which was tender and amazing defiantly had food envy, to finish he had apple crumble which looked nic. Overall lovely meal and the wait staff very accomidating. Only thing I didn't like was the pressure to tip at 200 a meal we weren't tipping. Defiantly a go to if you are in Hobart

Ohhhh my all i can say is - this is a must for those who of you in hobart!! Everything was absolutely positive from food to service to ambience!!<br/><br/>Location - great location at salamanca place toward the end of the street. <br/><br/>Food - i had the pork belly entree and a salad to complete my main and it was sufficient! The pork belly was delicious w the rice and the mushroom saute was devine. Good servings. Also had the lobster pate to share and yummmmy it was! Slightly hard but meh it just melted in the mouths!! Dessert was ok - i got the fairy floss turkish delight pannacotta and it a touch too sweet for me. But i still ate most of it haha!!<br/><br/>Service - attentive and friendly! Went through all the special with us and provided great recommendations. <br/><br/>Btw restaurant was surrounded by a Rockwall hence the name!

Of my trip to Tasmania, eating here was one of the more memorable experiences. The place has a really nice atmosphere, and the food was absolutely delicious — my wagyu was perhaps the best steak I've ever had.
Digesto
Superb. Great grill, great wine, great staff, great venue.
Shaun Eastwood
Let me start by saying that the waiters here were very good, friendly and attentive. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was also fantastic. However, I will never be returning, and here's why. <br/><br/>I went here with my partner and my mother. We received the bill and my mother went up to the counter to pay. The bill came to one hundred and eighty dollars, my mum paid in cash. After that, the man at the counter asked her, "Are you gonna leave a tip?"  He wanted twenty dollars. So essentially our night out came to two hundred dollars. My mother felt put on the spot, and obligated, so she paid it. In all my life, and all my mother's life, we had never encountered tipping in an Australian restaurant. Its outrageous. Its tantamount to extortion the way he asked her. <br/><br/>If they want their service staff to have more money then they should pay them more! They definitely shouldn't have the nerve to ask for more money than what's on the bill! I noticed a lot of foreign accents in the restaurant so maybe they get away with this by asking people for tips who don't know any better, or maybe it was just this one guy who asked my mother, or maybe they like to ask people who look like they will just bend over and pay. <br/><br/>To any tourist who is unsure about tipping in Australia, please google the Trip Advisor article called "Australia: Tipping & Ettiquette"<br/><br/>Never feel obligated to give a tip in Australia. Don't let any restaurant trick you into thinking this is okay. It just isn't done here!<br/><br/>My mum enjoyed the food. It would suit older people who don't particularly like more adventurous cosmopolitan food. My partner and I found it to be a bit bland and tasteless. The food was more or less well presented pub food, but the prices didn't reflect this. They were charging upper-middle tier prices for what was basically upper-lower-tier food, then asking for a tip on top of that. <br/><br/>I'll be telling people not to go here, mainly because of the whole tipping thing. I left the restaurant feeling outraged.

Absolutely Top Notch!!. I’d never had the occasion to eat at Rockwall before, even though I’ve been led to believe it’s become a bit of a Hobart institution. And then all of a sudden, I’ve had lunch there twice in a week. They were both business lunches, but the place really is excellent and I can see many more meals coming up there.<br/><br/>It’s located in the popular Salamanca precinct right near the Hobart Silos. The venue is really lovely in a beautiful sandstone building and in the back room, there are view of the rocks and some natural light.<br/><br/>The staff are absolutely spot on. Attentive, but not overbearing and there when you need them. The owner makes a point of thanking patrons on their way out; it’s not forced but is appreciated.<br/><br/>Most importantly, the meals are brilliant and the steaks are to die for. Cooked to absolute perfection and among the best I’ve ever eaten. Excellent cuts of meat, cooked properly and served with seasonal accompaniments and vegetables. There’s a reason this place has such a following. I’ll be back and dragging back plenty of friends. Top notch!

We ate here last night service was great but the steaks were very average ordered rib eye medium came out rare was very tuff and chewy . 3 in our party and all the steaks were very tuff.

Garry baker .. U legend ! The atmosphere was fabulous , staff attentive and food marvelous . Reasonable price and a must do . Thanks to all for a great night !

Firm favourite. We are always impressed when we go to Rockwall. Outstanding food and service makes for a delightful dinner experience. <br/>The waitress was very attentive and made some wonderful suggestions, both for food and wine. <br/>The moroccan spiced quail (with haloumi) and a rocket, pear and parmesan salad were a tasty light option. The steaks are top quality.<br/>The wine list has a great selection and the staff are knowledgeable about the options.<br/>It can get a bit noisy inside so ask about the couple of tables outside.

The best steak in town... Every time I have been to rockwall, Susan, Garry and their staff have been absolutely wonderful, always a beautiful glass of red to be had and my favourite is the 500g cape grim rib-eye or the 500g eye fillet! Don't expect to go here and get a cheap feed, this is fine dining at it's best, and well worth the prices!!

Always Top Notch

Love it !. We spent a weekend in Hobart in early October and had dinner at Rockwall on the Friday night .We loved the food so much we are still talking about it. The Lobster pate and salt and pepper Calamari were delicious for entree, but honestly we could have chosen all the entree dishes. For main course we both had the trevalla but it was a difficult decision the duck and the lamb both appealed. Overall we had a great night and look forward to returning to Hobart in the near future and Rockwall will most definitely be seeing us again
Anthony B
Great steaks and friendly service. Really enjoyed our evening here. I would definitely go back.

Way Over Priced. Came here for a birthday lunch, really disappointed with the quality of the food for the prices we paid. Also charged us $6 for a can of coke. Won't be going back.

Went with a group of 10 mid week. Absolutely packed. Staff were great, wide range of quality dishes and wines. Our group were really happy with the meals
Jonny
Great experience. We had a brilliant time here. The service here was good quality and the staff were friendly. We had the rib eye and it was tender and delicious. Tempura prawns and oysters for entrée were tasty.
Diane James
Yum, yum, yum! Had the tiger prawn cocktail and mushroom raviolo both were delicious. On the table we also had New York steak and lamb rac, everyone was very happy with their meals. Dessert was great too and the service was fantastic!!
Biting Mammal
The meal was nice except for the entree of mushroom raviolo, which was bland and overcooked. The service was pleasant and attentive.

Our first night out in Tassie for my boyfriend's birthday we decided to check out Rockwall. The restaurant itself was gorgeous, the waitstaff were very nice & attentive. The food itself was pretty average. For entrées we ordered the Oysters Kilpatrick, after waiting almost 1/2 an hour the oysters came out over cooked, semi burnt and floating in sauce. Wasn't impressed as it was my bf's first time trying oysters after some coaxing from me to try them, big mistake. For our mains he had the NY porterhouse & I had the Filet Mignon, both dishes were cooked to our liking however the flavours were quite bland & felt like there was something missing. I wouldn't say I didn't enjoy my night but for $114 I expected more quality food.
Nat
Awesome food and great service. Crispy chicken sooo good. Steak cooked really well. If in hobart try this place. Staff are very attentive. Thanks will be back.
Angela
The food itself was actually quite nice, the table waiting staff polite and pleasant but the behaviour of the kitchen staff (visible from our table) was appalling. Making crude gestures, swearing and talking with 2 obviously regular patrons who were just plain obnoxious really dampened our experience. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to friends coming to Hobart even though I suspect this was not an every night occurrence.
Mthomas
Great Meal. I have eaten here many times now and feel compelled to pass on my approval.<br/>Run by a bloke who looks like he droves cattle has a good sense for his patrons and staff are very polite.<br/>Servings are generous and the steak is the best in Hobart!<br/>I had the special cape grim porterhouse with seafood sauce, steak was 400+grams!! Seafood sauce had 7 or 8 scallops prawns calamari and a beautiful mussel!<br/><br/>I suggest you go try!
Sej
Ordered the eye fillet medium and it came out just so - perfect and delicious.
Petro
Managed to get a late booking which was lucky considering how busy the restaurant was. Excellent service by all the waitresses, food came out pretty quickly and was delicious. Twice cooked duck is a must try, and the turkish delight panna cotta was suprisingly good!<br/><br/>Overall good experience and would come back in the future.
Anna Ward
What a wonderful surprise! Food was spot on, wine list excellent and top notch service. Well done Rockwall, we were impressed!
Kliska
Potential. We waited almost an hour for our steaks and unfortunately mine was overcooked - well done when I requested medium. Seemed like it would have been a delicious cut of meat though. They handled it well for the most part. Luckily my husband's steak was quite large and he was able to share some with me. Service can improve....not very attentive (ie no menus for first 10 minutes until we asked for them).
Pub Grub
Fri lunch. Been here quite a few times and have enjoyed everyone of our visits keep up the good work guys
MarkH
Should have gone next door to the Ball & Chain. Eye fillet was too big a cut and cooked unevenly. Steak without a steak knife! What's going on? Red wine options are too restrictive

Ponzu oysters? Doubtful. The sauce tasted very much like plain soy to me.

Great food and service. The older man who served us was a gem and was really friendly, hence us going back a second time! Desserts were to die for! Definitely worth the visit :)

Great food and service had our 2year old daugther with us and they went out of their way to make her comfortable with a colouring book and pencils

Worst meal in hobart, deep fryed potatoes,4 snow peas, 4 peices of broccoli with my steak for $50. Seriously guys lift your game! Great place once, when it first opened. And smallest bread(dinner roll) for the price.

WOW best steaks we've ever ever had between melb and Tas! Altho we did arrive at 5:30 and there was no one there yet, so I'm sure the chef had the time to make them perfect but woah those eye fillets are to die for! The bread came out hot and fast and the salt n pepper calamari entree was tender, perfectly good - wish it had some lemon on the side then would have that as a main any day!!! Veggies were perfectly crisp, roast potatoes had plenty of flavor. We shared the Ferero Roche icecream dessert which came with a toffee crisp and Frangelico shot - yummm!! For all this we paid $126, but SO worth it because we couldn't fault the food, the atmosphere or the venue. Can't wait to go back!!!!!!!!!

If this was my last meal on earth I would be ecstatic. Salt and pepper calamari entree was melt in the mouth, the bread and balsamic was sweet abd delicious and both the duck and the salmon mains were incredible! Don't get me started on dessert! It was mind blowing! The serving staff were attentive and well trained & I would recommend every visitor coming to Hobart to eat at this place, it is worth the hype!!

Fantastic Service and Food. Loved the food and atmosphere. The service was one of the best I have experienced. Would definitely recommend this restaurant if you're in Hobart.

Avoid busy nights. What a disappointment! Place has a buzz, food is fresh and inviting, but staff need to learn the basics. Our table, and three around us, couldn't get staff even to ask if we wanted dessert, yet alone bring us the bill. In the end, each table left and queued at the cash register to get a bill and pay and even then, we at least felt as if we were intruding! I'd try it again ... but only on a quiet night (this visit was on a Thursday)

We absolutely LOVED Rockwall; everything from the service to the food to the atmosphere was wonderful, couldn't have wanted for more! If you do nothing else in this life, try their lobster pate. Heaven on a plate. Fish and chips were absolutely delish (fresh white fleshy fish lightly battered to perfection), hubby had the burger and his comments were that it was perfect, eye fillet included, and the chocolate fondant was molten chocolatey heaven! 5 out of 5 without a doubt. Will be back but not soon enough! Thanks Rockwall team!

Staff were friendly and there is indeed a rockwall (though poorly obscured by some outside ashtrays). Good cut of eye fillet however my medium-rare was overdone. You can get lost for time in there but it does lack he pizzaz present in the heart of Salamanca a little further up

Great food! The seafood chowder and the creme brulee are delicious!

The best lobster pate and barraging steak ever

These guys really do great steaks. The service was very good and friendly from the outset. Also has a comprehensive wine list that ensures a well rounded and tasty dining experience.

Great food, friendly service, nothing was a hassle when gluten free meals ordered. Highly recommend!

This was great for a late lunch when we first arrived in Hobart. There is a good selection for gluten free and vegetarian eaters. We enjoyed our meals but they were not outstanding. The rockwall outdoor dining area was interesting and the service was friendly.

Terrible! Don't waste your money. I cook a better meal at home.

This place rocks!. Went there on our first night in Tassie and the place was absolutely packed. The only tables available were outside, sitting just beneath the rock wall. <br/><br/>Our holiday got off to a great start and we fell in love with Tasmanian steak. <br/><br/>The service was outstanding, incredible friendly and attentive. <br/><br/>Definitely worth a visit when in Hobart.

A personal favourite. I've visited Rockwall twice and have thoroughly enjoyed both meals.<br/>The first time I got the Citrus Crispy Duck which was just heaven and no duck meals I've had since have ever come close.<br/>The second time I had two entrées, the Tasmanian Rock Lobster Paté and Seafood Chowder (both things I'd never tried before) and fell in love straight away.<br/>Can't wait to go back next time I visit Tasmania.<br/>The food is worth every cent!!

Favourite in Tassie. This place needs some more good reviews. I have never once been disappointed here. They are fantastic with seafood and every element of their dishes are always superb.<br/><br/>The real highlight of Rockwall is the dessert menu. Everything about this place is delicious. I can't believe nobody is raving about this place.

Good food but wine service is off. I hosted 9 people for dinner on a Tuesday night. The food was very good (tempura prawn entree and citrus duck were both excellent and other diners had the grilled trevalla and were very pleased with it). However having exhausted the stock of Yalumba Menzies (both bottles) we ordered the Zema Family Estate. The Zema wasn't right, however the wine waiter wouldn't replace it and instead sought a discount from the manager (that's never happened to me before). No satisfaction so we ordered the Zema shiraz - that wine was fine. Moral to the story - manage the wine waiter closely in this restaurant. I won't make a scene - but I won't be back.
