Review The Glass House - Hobart

James Evans
Came here for a dinner with my wife on our honeymoon. Was recommended by a Hobart local and it certainly did not disappoint. Firstly, the service. Our table was waited on by a woman named Dola. Every tiny attention to detail was perfectly managed and attended to by her. She was polite, discreet, gave sound advice and overall just made the night an unforgettable experience. The food and drinks were also equally commendable. We opted for the “feed me” option and it was a perfect choice. The variety of the dishes and flavor profiles were an absolute joy to eat. The cocktails were of a high caliber. I would thoroughly recommend this bar/restaurant for any couple visiting Hobart. The views from our table were the icing on the cake for our fantastic night.

We had an incredible experience here as a group booking for 14. Dietaries, gluten free and vegetarians so well catered for. The staff were so friendly and accomodating and we had a fantastic semi private area. A fantastic night had by all and couldn’t recommend the team and the food more!

Excellent location with unobstructed harbour views from the main dining area. Very good service, and quite creative cuisine Their stracciatella heirloom tomatoes were amazing perfectly ripe and sweet with Parmesan pangritata for some crunch, for me they were the highlights of the meal. The eye fillet was melt in the mouth tender, roast cauli a large serve with nice savoury miso enhancing the browning of it, was about half a cauliflower. Dessert (the lime one) was just as creative as the rest of the meal with none of the components overly sweet, perfectly refreshing after a big meal. They have a happy hour also which I notice included $12 cocktails and deals on beer, would be a great place to hang out and have some early evening drinks.

We were wonder around Hobart and came across this restaurant. Service was good, tasty food and the price and portions were reasonable. You get to enjoy meals and drinks with the great view.

Great view, food and service! We went for a Friday lunchtime sitting and were met with friendly service and a pretty special view. We had a selection of small plates which were all great.

Only stopped in for a coffee but staff were warm, friendly and helpful. Bathroom facilities were outstanding and the water views are spectacular. Located in Brooke St Pier, at the Mona ferry terminal. They have an outstanding selection of spirits, wine and beers; cocktails too. Well kept and presented restaurant. When I next return to Hobart, I will definitely be going there for a meal.

Food was great, service was good. We chose the $85 feed me option, it included lots of food. View was nice, but couldn’t see much because it was at night, we made the reservation at 8pm because other times were fully booked. Bette to go there in the afternoon so you can enjoy the view better.

Food was nice but the portion is a bit too small compare to the price. Lovely atmosphere with beautiful view by the pier.

Arrived 8.05pm. Ordered the let the chef sort you out menu ($75) pp for 2 of us. Our first entree didnt arrive until an hour after we ordered which was raw salmon sushimi and only came after i asked where our food was. Our next meal was salmon tartare (raw salmon dish) 2 raw samon dishes in a row seemed like it was rushed because we were forgot about. Our next dish after 30 mins was a slice of a quarter of an eggplant each which was nice although average for the quality we expected. Next we had baked potatoes with some kind of garlic sauce and we were overdone with the saltiness of the potatoes (my nan makes way better). Finally we had a decent couple of dishes being pork belly which was nice but between 2 of us there was 3 pieces about the size of my index finger. And the beef which was our favourite i dont have any complaints about it besides we had been there for 2 hours by now. Last of all we finally had dessert at 1045pm which was basically a few pieces of strawberry and gelatine which a scoop of ice cream in the middle. To sum up our terrible experience we sat down and alot of other groups were sat around us after and were served and finished before us. We felt forgotten about until i said something. But thanks to the fella on the desk for knocking a few bucks off our overpriced experience when i raised my concerns at the end

I can recommend The Glasshouse as THE place to dine; exceptional produce, expertly prepared & plated, well priced drinks menu & attentive service. The best dinner out in Tasmania that we've ever had.

I really enjoyed our drink here. The staff were very helpful in finding us a table. Loved the vibe and atmosphere and the view is gorgeous. I even loved the ladies loo, Fab! Well worth popping in for a boutique g&t

If you are after a high end dining experience on a fairly decent price tag that offers some of the best views in Hobart then The Glass House Hobart is a must. I recommend a minimum of two dishes per person to get the most out of it and most definitely indulge in cocktails. You won’t be disappointed. Full review is now up on Spooning Australia.

What a magnificent spot. Up high above the water with a magnificent view. We asked for the chef to choose our dishes and were so glad we did. The flavours were amazing. So fresh and delicious. Great selection of wines. Waitstaff excellent. Highly recommend to everyone.

Loved, loved, loved the Glass House. The menu is small so you can graze your way through the whole list if you are with a group, which I was. Everything was delicious from the creamy salmon sashimi with egg roe you had to chase around your mouth to pop for the salty explosion, to the succulent oyster mushrooms with a raw egg that you stirred in as a sauce. The meat dishes included a great tonkatsu pork with traditional dark, rich sauce, wallaby tartare which I loved, and the juiciest ribs I have tasted. For dessert, the white chocolate sounds plain but it is full of citrus flavours, some crunch, and oh the creamy chocolate. For drinks you can't go past the selection of gins. We had really good service and couldn't fault the dining experience at The Glass House.

Exceptional as usual. This is the perfect spot for a quick bite before a show at the Concert Hall or Theatre Royal (both an easy walk away). Three dishes from the menu were a delicious accompaniment to their excellent tap beer and cocktails. Service is brisk and we were in and out in under an hour which is exactly what we needed on this occasion.

Trades far too much on lovely interior and view. Staff were watching their watches to ensure we didn't overrun our "slot," food was frankly mediocre; it felt like an okay hotel restaurant. The bar is lovely, but won't bother eating here again. Not worth the $.

It was the perfect lunch. My partner proposed to me, and the staff were excellent. The food was amazing. Love this place

My fave place whenever in Hobart for amazing cocktails and good. Service is always friendly too.

Fantastic view and impeccable service, cannot recommend it enough to anyone visiting Hobart!

Visited The Glasshouse this evening- managed to (accidentally) send a full glass of wine flying- broke the glass and spilt wine all over a chair. The staff handled the fallout professionally and kindly and I really appreciated their lack of fuss. And they replaced my drink without charging me. I really appreciated their professionalism. And the food was great!

Beautiful place to eat and have a few wines with friends. #bridetribe Sarah our waitress was so super friendly and helpful!

Nice place and view, excellent customer service, the girl attending us was exceptional I forgot her name but I remember her North Korean background. We return the second day and we had the same nice experience for dinner.
Rebecca Cobbing
Great food and service, we had the chefs special menu and it was excellent value

Had a bit high expectation because the fancy website and marketing. Indeed very nice deco, colourful chair, and unique carpet, but that’s pretty much it. <br/><br/>We selected the “feed me” chef selection, accordingly, supposed to be the best choice of this restaurant. Unfortunately none out of the 7 dishes impressed me. <br/>So called Japanese seafood restaurant, but apart from one sashimi, I have seen nothing else relevant. <br/><br/>They made me a mock-tail and the taste is just blah. <br/>My husband wanted to make tonight special as this is my birthday, however this restaurant didn’t add anything to the great part of tonight.,<br/><br/>The staff are friendly though. <br/><br/>Do not recommend here!

AVERAGE [2.5/5]<br/><br/>The Glass House is an excellent spot for having a drink and chill out with friends. But if you're looking for a place to fill your stomach, go to Mures lower deck. This is fine dining after all.<br/><br/>Surrounded by the spectacular ocean view and Oriental designs, this fusion Australian-Japanese restaurant promised to bring out the best dining experience. When you combine the freshness and abundancy of Tasmanian seafood and the Japanese's meticulousness, you have very high expectation. <br/><br/>When we entered the restaurant, the supervisor appeared to be super casual and indifferent towards customers. She looked almost under pressure. Our waitress was friendly (customer service voice, high pitch laugh detected), but our food took forever to appear. We ordered fresh oysters, salmon sashimi with ginger and sesame sauce, salmon ceviche, and salmon collars. The dishes seemed uncomplicated yet they took so long. If I compared to a fine dining restaurant in Sydney, I'd have moved to the 7th item in the full course meal. Anyway, most of the food was good except for the salmon collars. The cheeks, cheapest cut of the salmon, were grilled and served with lemon. It tasted fishy. Don't believe in the fancy names and descriptions. <br/><br/>After the dinner, we joked among each other that we'd go grab Maccas and kebabs. Sadly, none are available in Hobart CBD. Ya'll missing out a lot, Hobart.

My partner and I came here for dinner last night. We really enjoyed the great service, amazing food with a beautiful view of the waters. The waitress was helpful, with choosing an absinthe since my partner wanted something strong. Stand out for me was the lamb tartare, so goddamn delicious - whatever that sauce is, i was left wanting more, and the steak - cooked to perfection, well-rested, soft and moist.

Whilst the food was first class the service really fell short of expectation for a restaurant of your caliber.<br/><br/>Our observations are as follows;<br/><br/>We had two waitresses...a bit odd<br/><br/>The waitresses clearly didn’t communicate and we had repeated same questions from them one after the other.<br/><br/>The first waitress asked us to clear the scallop shells from our plates for her...not really what you expect.<br/><br/>The second waitress had no knowledge of any of the dishes...most memorably when we asked her about the cheeses she advised us they were ‘cow cheeses’. When we sought more info she went away and came back to tell us they were from Tasmania.<br/><br/>As I’ve said the food was faultless, but we expected decent service too. Also emailed the restaurant out of courtesy with feedback.. no response!
Limitam
Not worth it. Service was terrible. <br/>While asking questions about the menu the waitresses were rude, unprofessional and VERY impatient. My kids and I chose the 2 course meal each, entrees came out fine, as for the mains... the chicken was cold and overcooked and the confit kingfish... way undercooked, we could not for the life of us even cut through the fish. We ended up still paying full price for all our meals (even though it was practically untouched!) and the waitress did not give 2 shits about how we felt. First and last time we’ll ever eat here. Do not waste your time.

horrible experience, not recommended for others

This is my first comment on this app, because I think this restaurant is terrible and i must share the bad experience with all

What a little gem!<br/><br/>Glass house is an absolute treat. <br/><br/>Beautiful venue with beautiful views and food to match <br/><br/>Highly recommend all our dishes. <br/>Scallop ceviche <br/>Salmon tartare<br/>Burrata <br/>Eye fillet steak<br/>Broccolini<br/><br/>An eclectic mix of Asian and European I was initially concerned would confuse the palate. NOPE! Absolutely wonderful flavour combinations. I could go back again and again. <br/><br/>Brilliant. <br/><br/>Yum

Excellent food and great view over the harbour

We arranged for dinner on a Saturday and it was packed with people. The service was lovely and the view was amazing, overlooking the waters. The food was really good and we really enjoyed it

We were very looking forward to visit this establishment, however was nothing but disappointment. We had the chef’s selection, the only good part of our dinner was the bread at the very beginning and the sashimi with fresh wasabi, the octopus they served us was super salty unable to swallow, so did the beef, tasted like a cheap can food, and the dessert tasted chemical and was very confusing serving cold dish in a warm plate. Not to mention the service, first the wine ordered was missing the bartender came to our table to confirm our order, which is no big deal, after the waitress serving us was not professional what so ever, the attitude was awful, zero knowledge of what she was serving, and setting our cutlery by feeling like just throwing on the table making really loud noises. Also in a freezing cold weather at a restaurant next the pier they somehow think was good idea to let the window open. For a 180 dollars dinner this was unacceptable. Absolutely would not recommend this place.

We arrived with nothing but excitement and left bloated and disappointed. On arrival, we were taken to our seats, the restaurant was having a slow night. We started with a couple glasses of wine. This order was ‘lost’ and the bartender came over to check with us what we’d asked for. Admittedly a little unexpected from a venue with a reputation like this one but no harm no foul. He was also charismatic and kind which was lovely and the wines themselves were also great. We then ordered the chefs menu from our first waitress, she also seemed positive and reasonably knowledgeable. At this point we were excited to start our meals. Firstly the bread arrived. In hindsight, this may have been the best food we’d been handed all night. It was a great consistency, fresh and the spread/dip provided with it was divine. Once again, excitement. Post this point we had started being served by a different waitress, this one would drop new cutlery on the table in a messy/loud rush. This one would not interact or respond at all, vocally or with a simple smile when dropping off a course or being thanked. This one had little to no knowledge on the dishes and was obviously not interested in hospitality or interaction of any sort. This is seriously rookie stuff. I’ve gotten better service at most of the cafes I’ve visited, but I’m sure you’re aware that this is supposed to be a venue that wants to be taken seriously for dinner. I wonder if it was bad hiring or training that put this waitress in this awkward position. We found ourselves waiting almost uncomfortably long for courses, not just once or twice, every time. The dishes themselves were honestly, seriously, average at best. Some were actually off-putting and hard to finish. The octopus dish, for example was one of the saltiest seafood dishes I may have ever eaten, hard to eat. The desert had a burning hot plate, but the contents were cold throughout and underdone. The sashimi was decent, I found a small fishes scale in a piece that was unpleasant to bite down on (wasabi on this plate was a lovely Tasmanian wasabi) it was all overwhelmingly underwhelming. I’d like to mention also, they’d left two windows open, it was probably 6 degrees out. They were only cracked, but we’re talking ocean facing on a floating restaurant kind of cracked and toward the end of the visit we found ourselves rugging up with our coats... I get no joy in posting this review. This may have just been an off night for them (a very off night) but it felt extremely amateur. The bill $180, a price suitable for a decent experience or better. This was not.

Great place to enjoy the beautiful water views after our visit to Mona. Service was great and all the staff were friendly we enjoyed a number of Tassie wines and cocktails.

A beautiful dining experience on the harbour with friendly service and a lovely balanced chef’s menu. Super fresh seafood and delicate cocktails.
Tasteforyourbuds
Food was quiet ordinary, the view was pretty but it was a shame it was blurred by an extra piece of glass for some reason. Best to book during sunset so u can get a glimpse of the view

We had an incredible time at The Glass House. The staff were friendly and accommodating to our needs. The interior was beautiful and the view was great! Lastly the food and cocktails were exceptional! Absolutely no complaints.<br/><br/>We ordered the chef selection and it was definitely worth every penny. <br/>

Loved this place! Got the feed me menu and everything was delicious. Particularly loved the lamb for the crispy skin element. Would go back next time I visit Hobart.
Foodie1404
Absolutely favourite of mine when I visit Hobart! The produce is always so fresh. Always good service and yummy food. The Pork belly is the best!
Nina Cradick
Food was a bit meh for the price. It lacked creativity. The eggplant was undercooked and the cheese was boring and poorly presented for $16. Even the bread was stale. For the top rated restaurant in Hobart, this was very disappointing
Foodie Hangeo
We ordered bread with butter, sea urchin, kingfish tartare and pork belly. All dishes are amazing and delicious. The sea urchin is sweet and fresh. The pork belly was crispy outside while soft, tender and juicy inside. Beautiful food matches with nice view, good service and amazing ambience. Btw, it is also a good place for dating, but a little pricy.
PuMan
Great location. Friendly service. Very good food but small quantities - most dishes are actually bites. Paid $250 for 2 with some (3 cocktails) alcohol
Babysheepbb
Taste too bad and expensive, the beef is too old, fish is too hard, not worth high rate. But the bay view is beautiful. However, I can’t find any good restaurants in Port Arthur.

Visiting from Melbourne we had to try out the food on offer at The Glass House. With such great reviews, who could resist?<br/><br/>The dining experience was wonderful, from location, ambiance, atmosphere & customer service. All perfect & really left a memorable impression. The customer service was charming, knowledgeable, relaxed & friendly. You felt totally safe in their hands.<br/><br/>The food was absolutely outstanding! We opted for the ‘Feed Me’ options, which consists of a 7 course degustation including dessert. The food was so on point in every way that we could not fault a thing. Our favourite was the Asian inspired pork belly & the roasted potatoes. All dishes had perfectly balanced flavours & were served at the perfect temperature to enjoy each dish. <br/><br/>Please try the Freycinet Vineyard Riesling- to die for! <br/><br/>The only small thing I could provide constructive criticism, is that the dishes did come out a bit too quickly, sometimes 2 at once. If you want to sip your beverage & want to savour each dish, maybe request them to bring the food out at a more slower pace. All our dishes pretty much all came out in 20 minutes. Not a big deal, but I am a slow eater & like to take my time.

Really disappointed about it. We ordered some main dishes, but it spend us one and half hour to wait it. And also, We order a plant of the oyster And sashimi and it come after one hour and fourty minutes. Please improve it and get the worth of the high score in Zomato.

Reasonably awkward venue to get to, walking through a Tourist Bureau. Once you arrive, you certainly do a lovely room with a great aspect looking over the water. Staff attentive and food was great. A non locals venue lacking a little soul, yet worth a look.

Came here dinner on our visit to Hobart. Very expensive so I had very high expectations. Views weren’t that great. You can get the same view by visiting any other restaurant around the docks. The taste of the food was average. The pork belly was very dry. Beef cheeks were good, soft and very tender. My favourite dish was probably the caramelised apples. For the price I paid and quality/quantity of food received, I’m giving it a 3 star.
Claire
Nice place. Very recommend for a try when you travel to Hobart. The price is reasonable. Small portion of food on each dish though. Try to book a window view table, that will make your meal time more enjoyable.👍👍👍👍

5 ⭐️ LOCATION: Great location and magnificent view of the water and being incorporated as part of an engrossing architecture. As well a good spot for a night out with an array of bars and restaurants nearby on the pier precinct.<br/><br/>We were “lucky” to land 8.30 PM seating the “last booking” at hottest spot in Hobart. We arrived on time as instructed but found ourselves cordoned on waiting couches for 15 minutes before being ushered to our table. Looking around there appear to be only stragglers ravishing on desserts.<br/><br/>2⭐️ SERVICE: When seated all the questions were directed at my partner as if I wasn’t worthy to be there. The water came quickly followed by the menu some 10 minutes later and it was evident by now the venue staff had no rhythm.<br/><br/>After twenty minutes we had to wave to order two glasses of red wine. We were also decided on our dishes and ready to order, but the waitress took off without any follow up, which was service in very bad form. The night was getting long in the tooth and was very suspicious when another waitress took our orders without writing. I was expecting more disasters, and further disasters in the worst form did follow. We’ll leave it at that.<br/><br/>4.5⭐️ DISHES: The owners of the Glass House have been let down by the service staff as the dishes were distinctive, exquisite and we enjoyed it so much that the very bad service was all forgotten.

As I entered in the restaurant the waitress was more interested in the iPad than welcoming new customers or hearing the head chef calling her. Anyway, once she acknowledge my presence I asked if there was a table to have dinner, she said:"yes, if you want to go to the bar I will come with the menu". She ignored me for 30 min after that, when I saw her taking a menu to a couple that just arrived, I stopped another waitress and ask if i could order food and she gave me immediately a menu. Unfortunately the first waitress came to grab my order, I asked the "feed me option $75pp" and she said she had to speak with the chef. When she came back she told me the feed me option was for a minimum of 2 people, thing never written in the menu. So after 45 mins waiting I changed the restaurant because I don't want to give one more dollar to those people.

This is my first visit and it was memorable for many reasons primarily the location and the food, which was good too. The selection of wines was good centered around Tasmanian (and why not). The ambience was good too. The service although efficient was lacking warmth and connection. However it is a good place to visit. Somewhat expensive but that depends on how much food and drink you consume.
Lorli
Floating at the end of the pier, the 280c view is fabulous! From the architecture to furniture, all are thoroughly planned. To top this up, the food were created with fine local produce. Nothing beat having a relaxing time at the waterfront together with a delicious meal.
Foodholic
Oh my goodness, the degustation menu was massive! I’m on the side of being a big eater for my size in Melbourne but oh boy I was rolling myself out from The Glass House after dinner. <br/><br/>I was here for work one night and thought, how much food could a $75 degustation menu be..? They were so nice to let me have the menu on my own despite the little writing that said “2 guests minimum”. After I managed to pull myself up from my table, I went to ask the lady at the cashier - were they mistaken and served me with two servings of everything...?? She said no, there had not been any mistakes. Wow! <br/><br/>The food was absolutely amazing, and the surroundings surreal. My only wish was that I could’ve shared it with one more person as I could not finish my dishes from the beef dish onwards. The portions were much larger than it looks in the photos - the beef, for example, was a substantial main dish by Melbourne standards with about 300gm of meat hiding under the vegetables. <br/><br/>Would definitely be back next time for the a la cartel menu!
EatsByM
Visited The Glass House during my stay in Hobart and can only say positive things about this place! <br/>We ordered items off the menu rather than the chefs recommendations as we weren’t too hungry! <br/>We ordered the Scottsdale pork, wild hare, yellowtail kingfish and the potatoes for the mains and for the desserts we orders the triple cream Brie and the parfait. <br/>The food was served in such a timely/progressive manner, which allowed us to enjoy the food at our own pace and be prepared for the next dish. <br/>All the dishes were absolutely exquisite and we enjoyed the dining experience thoroughly! <br/>The service at the glass house was also exceptional! <br/>I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Hobart! 🙂

We had an amazing spot looking over the water, staff were very attentive and accommodating. We went for the chefs plate, 70pp. The food was great, especially the first half of course, which was mostly seafood, followed by some delicious pork belly. The rest of the dishes were good, but didn’t blow us away. Would definitely come back again, maybe at lunch next time to see the beautiful views.
Katrina
Rate for the view but not the food, and the service is really normal to bad. I review ins &Zomato and already decide what to order, but they offer me the WRONG dish even I show the pic to the manager and get his confirmation, more ridiculous is they charge me wrongly on this dish until I figure out the price is doubled that on menu. Wrong dish wrong bill, the male manager just said sorry without really feel sorry. During the meal, I ask tomato sauce and Tabasco, but the apathy waitress give the smoky one which totally destroy the taste of oyster, and they don't have tomato sauce. I drive all the way from Launceston, this is the poorest service I ever experienced. Btw, their choice is very limited only to bar food. So if you want the drink and view, It's ok; if for food, I will say NO. There are so many great choices of food in Tas. Hope it helps and hope they can improve.
The Food Book
Originally had 4.5 rating but looking back, I remember how surreal the experience was. Just being able to be seated by the windows and having that amazing view. Decor and interior of the restaurant definitely enhanced the experience. Set menu was definitely affordable and surprisngly filling. Enjoyed the twist on the oysters, pork belly and the tomatoes. The main dish of potatoes and lamb was very generous. Food overall, didn't blow me away but the experience did.

We found this place just by wandering by and what a find. Liked the look of the menu so booked for dinner at 6pm. Wonderful spot by the water and such fresh food! Sashimi, sea urchin, Asian pork and the beef cheek with a side of potatos - everything was top class and very tasty. We then ordered dessert and this also did not disappoint. The Hot Toddy rice pudding with poached apricot and caramelised pear was the perfect end to a sumptuous meal. Pricey but oh so worth it. Yum.

Fantastic dining experience. First night I came for cocktails and couldn't have been happier with the service and exquisite complexity in the cocktails . Decided to return the following evening for dinner. The miso eggplant and salmon were delicious. The produce is of the highest quality and the seafood is treated with the utmost respect. The apple dessert is divine and I highly recommend the hive cocktail.

Our experience at the Glass House was very positive, with excellent food and views, but inattentive service (hence the 4 star review).<br/><br/>We dined at about 2pm on Good Friday, with the restaurant being pleasantly quiet. We were seated at the windows, with full complement of the lovely view and opted for the two-course weekday lunch menu.<br/><br/>The food was excellent. I’m a seafood lover, so I especially appreciated the oyster entree and poke bowl main - it was so fresh! My partner enjoyed the lamb for main and commented that it was one of the best meals he’s ever eaten.<br/><br/>As for the service; though friendly, it was inattentive. It took almost an hour for our mains to come out, in a restaurant with only 5 tables occupied. When the mains arrived my partner ordered a glass of Shiraz to accompany his lamb. He had to ask twice and was more than half way through his dish when the wine arrived.<br/><br/>Finally, we ordered the cheque and noticed we’d been charged for 5 x set lunches, rather than two. A relatively minor error, but not one that should occur in a restaurant like this.<br/><br/>Ultimately I would dine there again - the food was brilliant, the views delightful and the service friendly (if inattentive).<br/>
L+N
Decided to dine here for a special occasion during our time in Tasmania due to the high rating. We ordered the salmon sashimi, oyster mushroom entree and the steak and pork belly main. The entrees were alright for their price but the largest disappointment was in the mains.<br/><br/>The pork belly main had an overpowering fish sauce flavour and that is saying quite a bit as we both grew up with fish sauce flavours in our homes. The pork was dry as well which didn't help. The steak was not cooked properly - part of it was cooked medium rare while other parts were too well done leading to a chewy steak that was too thin. Possibly the worst part was that we waited almost an hour in between entree and the first main and another 40 minutes in between the two mains to arrive. By the time the steak was served, the pork belly was nicely cold.<br/><br/>The only upside was the service but everything else could definitely improve. The tag should definitely change as well as this is not a Japanese restaurant at all.
Wai Chow
Ticked all the boxes for me. Amazing food, drinks, service and views. The kingfish sashimi is a dish you must try. I've never had better. Will come back when I visit Tasmania again.
Foodie Paradise
Awesome food! They don’t have a huge selection of food on the menu but everything is done just en point! They have an a la carte option and a $75pp option where the chef will look after you. We chose the a la carte option, but the waiter did mention that they were happy to accomodate any needs for the $75pp option.<br/>The Glass House offered two types of oysters, one from Blackman Bay and the other from Pitt Water. We ordered half a dozen of each to taste the difference in oysters amongst different areas in Tassie. They were both nice but our preference was definitive the Blackman Bay (if you read my other reviews you’ll read about Bangor which is still my number one fave though)<br/>We ordered the yellowtail kingfish, Tasmanian avocado, Molesworth Tomatoes, Scottsdale pork and grass fed Cape Grim beef to share between three of us. <br/>All the food were yummy and fresh. I do need to highlight the Tasmanian Avocado though. It was a grilled miso eggplant which was absolutely delicious, but as you could see from the photo, the eggplant was really the hero of the dish! The whipped avocado on the side just didn’t really taste like avocado at all! So I found the name of the dish a bit deceiving, but still it was yummy! <br/>The Tomatoes were lovely but quite expensive for half a little tomato! But what do you expect in a fancy restaurant! <br/>The pork though was probably one of the highlights. The slow cooked sticky belly was absolutely cooked to perfection we had to get two serves! It was served with a lovely Vietnamese noodle salad and all the flavours just worked out well! <br/>The beef was also cooked well, medium rare and just melts in your mouth! Exactly how it should be cooked! <br/>Of course we also had to order desserts to finish. We had the cox pippin which was a lovely prune, raisins and Belgrove pommeau parfait. I’m not a prune person but didn’t mind it in this amazing dish. The caramelised Apple and the butterscotch sauce just tied everything together beautifully! <br/>The other dessert we ordered was the ice-cream sandwich. Pretty much exactly what you expected and obviously, nothing can go wrong with an ice cream sandwich! <br/>Had an absolutely amazing night!
Travelling Two
Everything we ordered was delicious. The price of the lamb was a bit harsh for the small amount, although it tasted amazing. Great views overlooking the water. Nice spaced out tables. Good service. Pricey but you’re getting what you pay for.
Jackie
I love the atmosphere, the architect, the service, the food, everything! The oysters are very fresh, I ordered both natural and mixed. Must try!<br/>Salmon Sashimi, oyster mushroom, Grim beef, and Duck pate donut (must try!). I'll definitely visit again if I am ever in Hobart and I recommend anybody whos visiting to drop by this magnificent restaurant for a quick drink or quick bite.
Authenticity
Beautiful sea view. The service was the most polished I have experienced in Hobart restaurant, close to 5 stars. It has an impressive selection of alcoholic drinks from whiskey to 4 digits collection, but unfortunately I don’t drink and not much choice for people who want to stay dry. I ordered mixed oysters and sashimi. The oysters tasted surprisingly fishy so I confirmed with the waiter that it was a yesterday stock. The fresh real wasabi was the only highlight from the sashimi. 3 stars in total because of the ingredients used with that price tag.

Can’t fault anything about The Glasshouse, we had the chefs selection with addition of oysters, everything was exceptional, the staff were attentive, friendly and knowledgeable about the food and drinks Highly Recommend

Sitting at a table with an ocean view and fresh sea breeze, this was further accompanied with delicious oysters and a funky seafood doughnut. The potatoes and lamb and pork belly dishes were well cooked with a clever touch of presentation.

Had a quick lunch course set here before departing Hobart. Such a magnificent place right by the water and breathtaking view. Lovely meal though service could have been better.

We were lucky to take the last two stools at the bar having walked in without a reservation. We took the suggestion of staff and ordered the chefs selection. From this, the potatoes and the pork belly stood out. Would go back just for those two alone. What really stood out for us however was the service. The bar staff were exceptional. Friendly, fun and informative, they made our experience.

Love. Best views ever. Chill af <br/>The drinks were awesome and the food (entre’s) were nice as well. <br/>Small dishes but worth it. <br/>Worth it for instagramers

Perfectly cooked meal and the taste was exquisite. Wide and varied range of drinks. Friendly and very attentive waiter. Great view over the harbour as well. Highly recommend for dinner or after work drinks. You'll love it.

What a stunning spot with an immaculate view, gorgeous setting, wonderfully attentive staff and yummy food. Perhaps more on the fancier side, however, still very welcoming and warm. The bar is beautiful, and there are plenty of drink options.<br/> <br/>We loved the food. We opted for the Feed me, degustation option which is perfect for when you don’t feel like studying the whole menu, and want to just relax and enjoy! And we certainly did! Sashimi was yum, carpaccio and the potato dish which accompanied the main meat dish were divine! Overall, highly recommended.

two out of the three dishes were good (trout and mixed oysters; the beef was too tough). but the service was terrible. the waitress didn’t have eye contact with me when i ordered. asked her to bring the dessert menu but she totally forgot about it.

The dishes are really small. We ordered four dishes with one sake costing 150 bucks. Three of us are still hungry after finishing everything.

The Glass House had one of the best view of the harbour as a restaurant with a beautiful, full bar. <br/>We didn't make reservation for dinner so only had the bar seats, however, didn't obstruct our perfect view of the stunning and peace sunset! So to avoid disappointment, please call and make reservation in advance. <br/><br/>Food menu had few starters as well as Asian fusion meal courses. Not much too choose, but overall the taste of the dishes we had was all pretty good! Of course, don't miss out their seasonal cocktail with the touch of freshness and creativity! <br/><br/>*salmon sashimi-8 pieces of extreme fresh salmon sashimi topped with some fish pearls, fresh wasabi and mirco herbs. The sashimi was so tender, so fresh! With beautiful smooth and fatty texture, the fish roe was really bouncy and fresh too! <br/>*oyster mushroom-pan fried and pickled mushroom served with artichoke purée and topped with nori and shaved bonito. Simple but delicious vegetarian dish of my favourite mushroom. Pickled mushroom added nice touch of sourness into the dish, love the perfect combination of nori&bonito, added some Japanese style into it.<br/>*wallaby tartare-cured wallaby meat served with slow cooked egg yolk and rice cracker. Pure, clean taste of the wallaby meat, seasoned and cured well. Rice cracker and crispy fried onion added extra crunchiness into the dish, really nice and highly recommend! <br/>*pork belly-lettuce leave served with chilli noodle salad, slow cooked sticky pork and pickled cucumber. This dish had some Vietnamese fusion and quite creative! The pork belly itself was well cooked with really tender texture. Overall taste very sweet, salty and sour and slightly spicy. If you r into Vietnamese food, you would love it. <br/><br/>As the sun settled down, we were enjoying our tasty dinner in the beautiful setting. Just feel like, everything is perfect! Highly recommend to visit the place even just for a simple drink, you won't regret it~<br/><br/><br/><br/>

The restaurant is just beautiful and staff were spot on. The view is fantastic. The menu is so innovative with lots of local produce. The flavours for all our shared dishes were amazing. The stand out was the oysters which were so fresh and had the best flavours I have ever experienced. Very impressed and a must visit.

Not quite sure how you would actually describe the Glass House - a fine dining bar? The bar list is extensive but the food is overpriced for what you are getting. We ordered a bottle of red, and I had the pork belly and my partner had the slow cooked lamb. Both were delicious - but honestly expected more on my plate considering they were meant to be mains (or at least priced as if they were). <br/><br/>We went at night, so it’s fantastic location over the water was a bit lost on us as you can’t really see out. However, it has a beautiful fit out - I was getting some Mad Men vibes from it. <br/>

Quite disappointed! The service was outstanding and the location was great! But the food was very underwhelming! Looked great, but taste was poor to say the least! And the price was way to much, $30 for an entree sized meal. Heard great things, but will not return

Went here for a business dinner with a group of 7 people. The view is amazing. Waiting staff wasn't great, not so friendly and a bit fake. We asked if they could just give us a mix of dishes to share, which was no problem. However, they brought out dishes so small they couldn't be shared with 7, I feel they should have doubled up where needed, and put things on two plates so there could be one on each end of the table. Also, they brought some dishes out on their own, it would have been better to serve a couple at a time, instead of bring out one dish, for example one dish had raw salmon and came on it's own, meaning everyone could grab one tiny bit of salmon to eat. Sort of awkward. <br/>Most of the dishes were lovely, some were just ok.<br/>I haven't paid the bill, so I don't know how price/quality relation was.<br/>Staff was not up to standard at all. They were not very friendly and responded in an awkward way to some questions! <br/>We had a lovely night, with lots of good food and wine, but would probably try something else next time.

Fantastic evening, great atmosphere, fantastic food and attentive staff. Would highly recommend. My favorite dish would have to be the slow cooked lamb.

Enjoyed lunch at the Glasshouse. Excellent venue with beautiful water front views. The food was tasty and well presented. Great wine list, attentive service. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

We stopped in for drinks before dinner upstairs and it has an impressive drinks list. <br/><br/>One of, if not my fave sparkling wine from Pipers Brook is on offer and it was every bit as smooth and creamy as I recall. I also had one of their rosé sparkling however being NV it was a little lacking. <br/><br/>Hubs had a couple of Sullivan's Cove double cask whisky. <br/><br/>Beautiful views, friendly and attentive service. We are due to return for dinner so can't wait.<br/><br/>Returned for a light dinner and drinks tonight, 09/09/2017 and it was even better than just great drinks, although we had more of those. <br/><br/>We had oysters, salmon sashimi, wallaby tartare and squid salad. All incredibly fresh and flavourful.

This was a wonderful special occasion restaurant. It was pricey but really wonderful, the sauce on the steak was to die for, I was sad to hear they made the relish themselves which came withthecheese board because I really wanted to buy some to take home. The salted caramel old fashioned is an absolute must try! But be prepared for a big bill!

Awesome place for cocktails - the view was gorgeous. Only had the oysters which were nice and fresh but we found some of the toppings a bit too bland. Great selection of spirits.<br/>Waitstaff were attentive and friendly.

This was a great night out after the football, Rita Mae cocktail, smoke on the bay cocktail, sake, oysters and red wine, the food was really tasty and it was a crowd ready to continue on into the early hours. A great place with friends. The bathroom was an experience in lighting!

If you are after a high end dining experience on a fairly decent price tag that offers some of the best views in Hobart then The Glass House is a must. I recommend a minimum of two dishes per person to get the most out of it and most definitely indulge in cocktails. You won’t be disappointed.<br/>Full review is now on Spooning Australia.

We had a fabulous evening dining here with friends. The food was good and all the dishes were well presented and thoughtfully put together however were not that substantive. A great wine list and friendly staff. There are a couple of down sides though.  The location and view are fantastic however at night you can hardly see out the windows so it was a bit lost on us. Also, having dined at quite a number of other restaurants in and around Hobart we noted that The Glass House was a fair bit pricier without the extra quality one may have anticipated. <br/>Hopefully we will make it back for a long lunch in the future to change our minds.

Beautiful location right on the water and an exquisite menu. Great mix of flavours utilizing local produce. Service was brilliant and the waiter recommended a perfect wine to compliment the food.

An overpriced and overmarked palace. <br/><br/>To be honest, even the view is good. But I don't think worth to pay so much regarding the food and service. <br/><br/>The food is just ok, eatable, but not tasty. The oyster is not entirely fresh when I have it. And the rest of my dishes is just ok. <br/><br/>As for service, the staff is kind of friendly. <br/><br/>I wouldn't recommend this place for my friend. Unless they are keen to pay hundreds to the fancy view and don't care the food at all.
Ben 001
Overall not bad. 4 out of 5 dishes were good. The calamari was bland, but easily remedied with some wasabi. Wine serves we're small and less than the usual 150 ml. Good service and atmosphere and water views.
Stuck In Transit
The Glass House is one of those places where you can enjoy a night out with a group of friends, or for a more intimate date night with stunning views over the water. Located at the end of Brooke Street Pier, this floating structure is one of the best places to get the best views, day and night of the waterfront.
NotoriousREB
Absolutely incredible. The space is beautiful, with great attention to detail - everything from the bar to the seating to the artwork is just lovely. We shared 5 plates between two people for mains, and 1 dessert and were very full and happy. The food was just amazing, particularly the wallaby tartare (the absolute star of the night), the oyster mushrooms and the white chocolate and yuzu curd. Absolutely great option for a special night out. Will definitely return during the day for a cocktail to appreciate the view.

Our first meal in Hobart was impressive! The breathtaking waterview through the large glass windows caught our attention immediately as we walked into the Glass House, which is located inside Brooke Street Pier. The interior boasts classy, modern elegance and the menu is Asian fusion with a creative flair. The dishes are all designed to be shared and are very reasonably priced considering the high standard and the atmosphere in which they are served! We were continuously amazed by the flavoursome food and the wonderful waterfront setting took the experience to yet another level! Our favourite dishes were the ocean trout, the pork shoulder and the dessert with white chocolate, coconut and yuzu curd. The Glass House has a trendy bar stocked with some of Tassie's best drinks as well as Japanese liquor. We opted for a glass of Moo Brew and a glass of Rose which went down beautifully with our meal. Service was professional and attentive throughout. We highly recommend this place for lunch - be sure to book well in advance and ask for a table by the windows for the optimal experience!

Perfect Hobart location on the water. Tapas style so you need to be in the mood to share! Very good drinks list. Some quality dishes on offer.

Overpriced. Every dish was $5 too much. We paid $14 for a plate of underseasoned potatoes. Shiza. Cocktails were also overpriced.<br/> The service was hit and miss, nonchalent even from one waitperson. <br/>I was looking forward to this dining experience but am left feeling underwhelmed. I won't be returning in a hurry, or at all. <br/><br/>

Expensive. Japanese beer $10 and 8 slices of salmon with salmon roe was $20. Their food menu is ordinary as well. Typical Japanese dishes with no twist. This is not a restaurant, but it's a bar. A bar where you have tapas to have with your wine etc. Not the other way round. I wonder if it's over rated because of the location plus being in Hobart, they don't have much of a choice. The bar is beautiful and the staff are okay-not so great, not attentive enough for an expensive place-, but I felt that this place is to be seen, and a bit pretentious
Belynda Deliva
Really nice venue. Fancy place without the fancy price. Menu is designed to share and for a group of three you'll probably need to order around 7 dishes. It's a pretty loud restaurant and I felt that I had to talk a little louder cause of the music. Food wise, really fresh seafood! I would highly recommend the oysters and the sashimi.
Out And About
What a breathtaking view! We had heard good things and just had to come. The space is set on the water and looks out directly onto the harbor. The wine list and cocktail list was extensive and the staff professional. The kitchen only opens for dinner at 6:00pm so we enjoyed some wine and the views.

If you want a seat at this restaurant, you need to book. We visited The Glass House on a Wednesday evening, and simply sat at the bar, as we had not booked in advance. The view from the restaurant is fantastic, overlooking the water, CSIRO vessel and into the harbour. When you first open the menu, it may be different to what you see on many review websites, due to the menu frequently being changed. You'll then turn to the second page of what appears to be a book, and my goodness it is quite a drinks list. The options are endless, although I would certainly recommend the cocktails, as this place is known for them. Now for the food.. it was by far one of the best tapas style restaurants I have ever experienced. My favourite dishes were the quail and pork shoulder. If you're in Hobart, make sure you add The Glass House to your itinerary.

Nice view shame about the pretentious staff. Know how to mix and shake but nothing about customer service. Extremely disappointing after a brilliant time and cocktails at MONA.

A local told me that this place is quite new in the city and I have it booked for dinner on my trip to Hobart recently. Located at the Brooke Street Pier, this place got a fantastic view to the sea! I went here with my family, but I really think this is a go-to place for a romantic and lovely date.<br/><br/>As I have never been to a restaurant with the concept of dining bar before, I'm a bit surprised that the food offered is only like a small plate of entree instead of mains. The waiter was pretty helpful with recommending on what to order. We basically ordered a lot and just tried each and every thing they got. I loveeeee everything! I love their pink eye potato (portion quite big), their oysters are so fresh and also there is this one fish that is served in a sashimi style, I forgot what it is called that is also my family's favorite! We end up ordering it twice. We also try their wallaby although I really recommend that you should try their seafood-based menu instead. Oh and their plating is gorgeous too.<br/><br/>I would also like to note that the waiter has mistaken an order and put a plate of sashimi that we didn't order in our table (I think it is actually for the next table) and when we clarified, they said that it is a complimentary for us (I feel bad for the next table, but hey thanks!). Not that it is a bad thing, just saying. <br/><br/>But well, I will definitely go back. You should definitely check it out while you're in town.

Classy venue with a sensational view overlooking the water. Cocktail list was broad and well executed. I'd certainly consider dining here when next in Hobart.

Perfect location of the Hobart waterfront view.<br/>Staff is really friendly and the drinks menu is like a book. <br/>Flat white is ok but soy hot chocolate is delicious. <br/>Must return to try some cocktails.<br/>

Popped in here for some small food before the theatre and was bitterly disappointed. We bought the eggplant and the chat potatoes but sent the eggplant back. The amount of oil that seeped out of it was gross so we ate the most expensive potatoe dish in history. We should've gone across the road to the local. The wine was good and the list extensive. The view was spectacular and that's what you are paying for. I'd drop in for a wine again but not to eat.

Hobart is a town of about 250,000. But it aspires to being so much more. MONA, Henry Jones Hotel and Glass House. The latter has a lovely location over the water and makes the most of it. The food varies from the outstanding ( Pork shoulder Tonkatsu, Grilled Egg Plant with a watermelon foam, Beef Spareribs) to the disappointing ( Tempura oyster mushrooms which were killed by a very thick batter). <br/><br/>The staff were outstanding and agreed on the Tempura and forgave my wife and I for turning up late for our booking. <br/><br/>I'd return and the cost of $200 for 2 including drinks was great value by Melbourne standards!<br/>

Food ✅ Service ✅ View ✅ Place ✅ ALL GOOD! Our favorites are the oyster, short rib, ocean trout, pork shoulder and egg plant. Thankyou the glass house for making our short trip to hobart memorable ❤️✨👍🏻

Wow wow wow!!!!!! I came all the way down from Sydney and this is one of the best modern japanese restaurant from what I have had, absolutely enjoyed everything. We had the oysters mixed and the sauce was so fresh. The king fish with fennel was also very fresh but I would like a bit more sauce. The pork shoulder was crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. The quail might be a bit raw for me but very very juicy, tender and marinated really well. The combination was weird but worked very well. The wallaby, again, have some really surprising flavours and perfectly cooked. Miso eggplant, yes my favourite dish. I love eggplant and tried million types of eggplant, but never saw any that goes with watermelom jelly😂Weird, but also worked well, balanced out the sweetness of the miso. Lastly, the dessert, white chocolate with coconut sorbet and yuzu curd, such a perfect way to end my dinner. Everything goes really well together and yeah, nothing I can fault. The dishes come in small proportion and is designed to share, even though one dish is not that expensive but it actually adds up to a big amount. However, compares to Sydney, food with this quality and spectacular view really isn't expensive.

Stopped in for some pre-dinner beers and oysters and was very pleasantly surprised. A fantastic view and attentive staff only added to the experience of some of the freshest oysters and salmon sashimi. The oysters had 3 varieties of flavours and while the kimchi oysters were a little creative the rest punched well above their weight! Definitely worth a second visit.

Dinner with three ladies at The Glass House last night, first visit for me and I found both the staff and the ambiance very welcoming and the location outstanding <br/>My companions opted to select the plates ( tapas style )and with a wide range on offer it was easy to cater for all palates, we worked our way through prawn, chicken, pork and lamb dishes and all hit the spot, unfortunately the steak was a little too fatty but the potato dish made up for that,<br/> Now The Glass House is not cheap and had the Missus, Daughter and Daughter in law decided to drink up the bill could have got very ugly, There is a very extensive drinks menu ( not so much for beers ) but again the prices are towards the upper end<br/> All in all it was a nice dining experience and will probably revisit some time soon

Came here at night and the atmosphere was great. A walk in so we were seated at the bar. Highly recommend beef tartare and scotch fillet both done to perfection and full of flavor. Also had mixed oysters and kingfish both a delight. Staff was friendly and considerate.<br/><br/>Negroni was "the best" my sister ever had.<br/>Would be a great date night location too.

Loved the Glass House. Best food in Hobart and great service. We ordered nearly everything off the menu and the stand outs were the mixed oysters, tartare, salmon sashimi and the cheese plate. Would definitely return here.
Fork And Foot (formerly Two Clowns Tripping)
The Glass House boldly proclaim their presence as ‘redefining style on Hobart’s waterfront’. Lofty ambitions.<br/><br/>While it would be a stretch to claim all the glory with a sensational venue such as Aloft perched atop their broad rafters, they certainly take a lead role!
Little Red Elefant
Portions aren't big but are perfectly balanced and absolutely delicious. Also a nice ambience. Got a great deal on some excellent wine. I am looking forward to our next visit. A full set of trumpets.

A farewell feast for my dear chum from Victoria. Delightful, delicious, decadent! We had G&T (superb) accompanied by kingfish capacious (wow, just wow), Korean fried chicken (mmmmmm), lamb belly (yum, yum), carrots and potatoes (both lovely). Cannot fault fabulous location, excellent service and truly terrific food.

The very best in Hobart! This very, very busy venue was the last stop for my wife and myself on our Tassie trip. A short and pretty walk down the deck from Salamanca where we were staying it is one of the most spectacular venues I have been to other than Vue De Monde in Melbourne. Right on the water on a clear cold night with views over the harbour! The food was some of the best western Japanese food I have had anywhere in Australia and the beverage list has great depth. We had several dishes between us and a very tasty chocolate dessert as well as some local Riesling and the crystal 10yo Japanese whiskey. A must do and we will be returning without hesitation when we travel next!

I booked a table for my dad and his new wife as a gift on their honeymoon. The team was great to deal with, sorted it all over the phone, had a signature cocktail prepared for them on arrival and gave them a table with a stunning view. Report back was that the food was excellent as was the service. Very happy!

I flew back to my birth-city Hobart to celebrate my dad’s birthday on the weekend.  It was an evening celebration so there was time to fit in a lunch somewhere new.  Always a food-opportunist (umm, I think you’ve probably already worked that out), I gathered some good friends and made a booking at The Glass House, “The place at the end of the pier”.  I’d heard about this place because Ikuei Arakane (otherwise known as Kinsan), the executive chef, was one of the chefs at a couple of charity/Ironchef dinners that I went to in Adelaide last year.

THE place to have drinks in Hobart right now - stunning water view of the Derwent River is certainly worth a drink there, especially in summer where twlight is longer. Extensive cocktail menu ($$$) is well worth an explore & drink. My favourite to date is the expresso martini (it is not on the menu but they will make it for you).<br/><br/>Food - the tapas style food ($) (Japanese/Korean fusion) is a good accompaniment to the vast list of wine, cocktails, sake & whiskey. I recommend the Korean Fried Chicken & pork belly bao. <br/><br/>A fabulous place for a drink to appreciate how beautiful Hobart is, if you not concerned about $.

Went by chance - lucky us. Great service, really good interesting food, beautiful view and moderate prices. Highly recommended. A++++++++++++++++

Glass house is a beautiful place to dine. It's interior is really trendy and modern. I sat on arm chairs that are placed around a round table - in front of the beautiful view. Best seats!! The food is meant for sharing and as such I was able to taste many small tapas style dishes and all of them were amazing! The cocktail menu is expansive, I tried three cocktails and they were good. Although I think the food was nicer than their cocktails. I will definitely go back!

Great spot for an after dinner liqueur with a coffee!

I didn't know that this place was more of a dining bar than restaurant, but was pleasantly surprised at the quality of food they served here. The fact that it was reasonably priced and portioned, at a great location with lovely views, we were very happy and satisfied. As they served tapas style food, it meant you could try more of their menu even when you only had 2!

At the end of the Brooke Street is floor to ceiling glass. Inside is a bar and restaurant of impeccable quality like the Murano glass that lines its entrance. The Glass House is a destination. The owners of the boutique hotel Islington, with a reputation for beautiful aesthetic and attention to detail, have been kind enough to share these qualities with the realpolitik.

My first trip to Hobart and I was incredibly lucky to be treated to dinner here on my very first night ... what a way to start a fabulous weekend.  <br/><br/>With an iron chef in the kitchen (Kinsan) and floating at the end of the Brooke Street Pier, The Glass House has to be one of Hobart's premier dining destinations.  As you walk in past the most fabulous glass collection out into the dining room, to find yourself surrounded by glass - you know you are in for a treat.  And oh my goodness calling it a treat is an understatement.<br/><br/>Firstly I have to say that the service was sublime - attentive but not stiffling.  Then there is the ambience - elegant without being over the top - fine dining without being brash about it.  Water and menu's appeared quickly and then it was deciding what to eat from the most fabulous array of choices.<br/><br/>The Glass House does japanese style tapas - so think lots of shared plates.  We quickly decided on a bottle of tasmanian sparkling (can't for the life of me remember what it was - but it was really good - enough so that a second bottle was ordered - for just three of us!).  Then it was to the tapas - we ordered soft shell crab bao - seriously seriously good and probably my dish of the night, very generous serving of crab in perfectly soft bao with a great hit of chilli mayo; salmon tartare - my second favourite dish of the night; scallop fritters - you can't come to Tasmania and not have scallops, these were really good in a light and airy batter; chicken yakatori - really delicious, served with a fantastic seaweed salad (best I've ever had); we had another vegetarian dish that I can't remember now; a serve of fries and one of the best cheese plates I've ever had to finish off.<br/><br/>The dishes came out with perfect timing - giving us a chance to enjoy each dish individually before the next one arrived - this is often hard to get right, but The Glass House nailed it.  I also loved the fact that they offer up that each dish feeds two people i.e. two pieces per dish, but they can up it to suit three people (which we were) for 50% more on the price. Thank you so much for this - one of my huge bugbears with tapas is that if you are an odd number of diners then you have to cut portions in half, which is messy and just not the same.  I am more than happy to pay more to ensure there is enough on each plate for each person dining.  As one of our diners doesn't eat chicken, for the chicken plate we just stuck with the normal serve.  All tapas places need to do this - I don't want to have to order an extra plate, I just want the extra serve!<br/><br/>In all I have to say The Glass House will go down as one of the very best restaurants I've experienced - it truly is fine dining and worth every cent.  We ate in the evening so didn't get the full affect of sitting right on the harbour, so when I next return I will definately have lunch here or perhaps go for drinks on sunset followed by dinner - to really get the full affect of this perfect location.<br/><br/>If you want to treat yourself to something special whilst in Hobart, I highly recommend dining here - the food, the ambience, the service - everything is just truly special.  A most memorable meal and what an introduction to all that is Tasmania!
