Review Retro Cafe - Hobart

Michael McRoberts
Popped in for breakfast this morning and was pretty happy I did! Grabbed bacon and eggs and a coffee, food was lovely, coffee just good. But overall I did really like the cafe. Interior is fun and quirky, great for a cold morning breakfast. Worth checking out if you are in the area!

There was a computer with WindowsXP and that literally made me feel that it is a "RETRO" Cafe. No offence, pun intended. The coffee was quite bitter but sometimes all we want is caffeine, and the bitterness surely comes with it!

Very friendly and welcoming staff, great food, great coffee, do yourself a favour. Eggs Benedict on a Bagel for the win

The local recommended me to visit this coffee shop, it was really impressive. I ordered a flat white with almond milk but it tasted SALTY, Weird. But to be fair they made me a new one, but the coffee is still no much better than the coffee from petrol stations. I ordered the big breakfast, I asked for scrambled eggs but I got poached eggs. When I asked the waitress to please make me a new coffee she gave me a bit of attitude, then I got the eggs cooked wrong which shouldn’t be a big problem but I just gave up asking her to fix the mistake they made. So if you wanna start a wonderful morning with a cup of coffee, and you’re looking at this review, think twice if you’re still coming to this cafe. The espresso bar in Salamanca square is much better than here.

This was an extremely disappointing experience. My partner’s toasted sandwich ($10.00) wasn’t what was ordered, sent it back and when the correct one came, the girl just plonked it down in front of her without a word. Her manner at every interaction was unpleasant, I think she was in a bad mood. My Caesar salad did not taste fresh, there was something not quite right in it. At $18.00 it is on the expensive side, not an average price for a Caesar. Sharing the meal with a blanket of flies added to the unpleasantness of the meal. Will not eat here again or recommend the venue. Lots of better places in the area to choose from.

Best stool pigeon joint near Parliament and Supreme Court. Coffee tasted burnt. Basic supermarket white sugar, too The huge side of halloumi was on top of one half of the bagel that the eggs benedict were on, so I had to wrangle it all to balance it up again. Pepper is pre-ground off the shelf supermarket stuff. It'd be hard to convince me if someone claimed it was home made hollandaise. Whilst filling, taste wise was pretty bland (excepting the side of mushrooms, which thankfully were actually on the side).

Decent breakfast, friendly service and good coffee. Suggest that the dodgy old carpets get ditched and upgrade the flooring. (Was happy to find that they could cook scrambled eggs, had tried two previous cafe's and they could only do poached and fried eggs??)
