Review Kopitiam Singapore Cafe - Hobart

I had the best chicken Laksa while in Hobart. We also ordered their chicken curry, Hainanese chicken, and nasi lemak with fried chicken (gosh, that was loads of chicken 😄 and they were all gone too soon from our plates). The portions were generous, and the prices were reasonable. The Nyonya was fantastic and friendly. We loved her! I definitely would recommend it to anyone in Hobart craving for some Malay food.

Excellent food at reasonable price. The chicken rice is missing the broth for some reason but the chilli and rice flavour make up for it. Chat kway teow is the perfect amount of spicy and full of meat/seafood rather than just noodles. Excellent find.

Beautiful food. A dish for every taste, especially if you like spicy! Their Sambal is delicious!

Authentic dishes with Singaporean twists, using fresh ingredients. Only negative is the place is a bit cramped and hot especially summer time.
Eric Ho
Very nice Hainanese chicken rice. Though, it would be even better if there are more options of the sauce for the chicken.
Justin Bradley
Authentic, simple and NO MSG. Loved the Singaporean cuisine fix and the Singaporean Tea.

The lady taking our order was lovely, she could also speak Cantonese well which was convenient to order for my parents. We had high expectations going by the high ratings but actually felt the food was very average, at least compared to where we are from, Melbourne. The Hainanese chicken was bitsy and untidy. I had the chicken curry with roti which was medium spicy but being a mild spice eater thought it wasn't too hot. The chicken was succulent and flavoursome. In short, it was a decent feed but not sure what the hype is about. Rating: 3.5

We came in 40 mins before closing time but the lady is nice enough to allow us until 7:15.

I ordered the Tomyum and it it’s spice level is more than a usual tomyum I’ve tried but it was good and enjoyed it.

Staff: 4/5
Food: 4/5
Ambiance: 3/5

The best Singaporean restaurant in Hobart! The owner is really nice. We came in 40 mins before closing time, but she gave us an extra 15 mins to enjoy the food. We couldn't try their chicken rice because it's already sold out. But out of all the food we ordered, they're all really tasty. It's a simple dish but worth trying!

Was there back in 2014 (yes I’ve been catching up with my reviews). Didn’t know a lot about Singaporean food but I remembered clearly that it was a very nice meal. A great selection of food, and the spice was spot on. The owner was a nice lady who made us feel at home.
Authenticity
I came here for the chicken rice but they are sold out. They said laksa is their second best seller. The broth had authentic Asian taste but a little too rich for true Singaporean hawker style. Dominated with noodles, it could improve with more veggie and other ingredients.

I came here again at lunch hours for the chicken rice. Good authentic Asian in Hobart. Not Singapore enough, slightly over cooked chicken, missing the coriander and side soup making the dish quite dry to consume. Overall the taste is good.

A cosy little restuarant with delicious dishes at a great price. Plus they make fresh juices to order.

we'll be coming back here for sure :)

Came here for dinner just 45 minutes before they close but it's still packed. Ordered their CKT, Hor Fun, Roast Pork and Belacan Bee Hoon. All dishes are Singaporean version. They ran out of Hainanese Chicken Rice which indicates how popular this dish is. All dishes are good filled with fresh ingredients. I particularly like their Belacan Bee Hoon which is very colourful in taste and filled with yummy and fresh sea food. Service was good. Food came out reasonably quick.

One of the best laksa I have ever tried. The place close at 7pm!!!!! So early. Went there at 5.30pm. The owner was proud of their food. She said 'once you dine with us, you would remember our food. It IS different'.
They pride on great food and no MSG.
Laksa was amazing!!!! One of the best I have tried. 5.0!
Hor fun was ok. Slightly too sweet? But kids gobble them up. 4.0
Curry chicken. Intense flavor. Very nice. Comes with rice. 4.0
Roti for curry chicken. Yummmmm. They serve it crunchy and crispy. 5.0
Pork belly stew w egg. This was good!!!! Amazingly good. Yummmmm. 5.0
Who knows one can find this food in Tazzie?

Excellent food and very authentic!! Absolutely delicious! Five stars isn't even enough to justify this review! We had the Nasi Lemak and Singapore Horfun and Chicken rice, all awesome! Should really be 10/10! Go Singaporeans in Tassie!

Rating is not on food but in experience.

Happened to be visiting Hobart and tried visiting this place. First night in town we clearly missed the closing time which was fine.

The second time we came back a good hour before closing (note they do close early at 7pm, but late compared to most others) and they were closed! The owners did not acknowledge us despite us feeling them knowing we were right outside their shop!

Disappointed.

I came with my family to this place in afternoon, and ordered veggie stir fry noodles, Chicken Laska and sea food with Milk tea on side.
The moment you put the food in your mouth you can experience rich flavours in your mouth and $$$ friendly. I was totally satisfied with good quality and quality. Must try for those who seeking some good Asian food. Joy Zhao Tianying Qiang Kopitiam Singapore
Follow me for more reviews of your food :)

It was ok but not great, maybe because we didnt order some great stuff? I had the hainanese chicken rice and the chicken was a bit lack of flavor, but the basil seafood rice was good.

Well....if you are in Hobart (Tasmania) and miss Singaporean food, visit this restaurant. It is located at Collin st, within walking distance from Elizabeth mall and Center point.

They serve various Singaporean menus, such ad nasi lemak, fried kwetiauw, etc. They also offer "ice kachang". They taste is authentic. We like it. That's why I rate it 4.

I don't take pictures from this restaurant because nothing special.

Places and music reminds me of Asia. We had chicken rice and seafood hor fun with eggs sauce gravy. Unfortunately, the rice was warm and the Hor fun used frozen seafood. Taste was good though.

We visited this restaurant in a cool Saturday night. Ordered Chicken Laksa & Singapore Sambas Belacan Benn Hoon. Both of them were very tasty and they made us feel warm & satisfied. Highly recommended 👍🏻

This is the best Malaysian / Singaporean restaurants in Tasmania, and my favourite dish fried kuey teow is probably the best I have ever had anywhere outside Malaysia.
Food Glorious Food
The laksa is packed full of flavour! Haven't had laksa like this since I left Malaysia. Hainan chicken rice reminded me of home. Good but not the best I've had.
What let it all down was the service. The lady was polite but it was the serving of the food that will need severe polishing or they will start losing customers. The waitress didn't seem to understand that she had to serve the food based on the dockets. It felt as though she was serving the dishes via her memory of who came first and who ordered what. Someone ordered laksa before us and we got laksa first. The rice I ordered I believe was given to another table. My partner had finished his laksa and I had to wait another 15 minutes before mine came. It's wasn't just my table.the table beside that I believe received the rice that I ordered waited for their laksa for so long even when I left, they haven't got their 3rd dish yet. I hope they refine their service and continue to serve good food.

What a Gem
Best laksa I've eaten in Oz. Small, friendly, unpretentious and busy! Be quick, kitchen closes at 6:30pm most nites. Finally some decent chilli in Hobart - thanks Chef 😌.

Absolutely delicious and authentic food- shared the laksa, kway teow and bbq pork noodles. Fast and friendly service, will definitely go back!

Found this nice outfit when we just arrived in Hobart. The chicken laksa was very delicious, lots of coconut flavour. It was a generous portion. The Singapore Hae Mee,portion albeit small was also good. Come when you are here in Hobart for comforting and delicious Singapore fare.

Went for dinner at this place on christmas day. Service was kinda bad (the waitress not really friendly). We ordered about 7 dishes and need to wait the food for about 1 hour, others who came later already got the food but we still need to wait longer. The food was average: nasi goreng kinda bland; roast pork not crunchy; nasi lemak was okay; only curry rice and fried kwetiaw were good. I was expecting a good quality time spent in this restaurant by reading good reviews. I don't expect much since it's busy. However overall, not a good experience and won't be back again.

Authentic Singapore food. Really satisfied my craving for Asian food after so many days in tassie. We had hainanese chicken rice and fried kway tiao. Will definitely come back here if I visit Hobart again.

I had the seafood Laksa!! It was delicious! They didn't have entrees on the menu but I was able to order a side dish of fried chicken wings. The chicken wings were average, alittle dry and very small for $5, 3 pieces. I don't recommend the fried chicken wings.
JK
Food is nice. Recommend Laska seafood, value for money. Hokkien Mee is nice too but portion small. Is a cafe hence not open till late.

Don't be fooled by the look of the place! It has GREAT food. We were very happily surprised! Definitely try the curry or the BBQ pork

Authentic food and great service!. If you're looking for authentic Singaporean/Malaysian food, look no further than this place! Surprisingly even better than Sydney. I just think Sydney ones are all "adjusted" taste. The owner is able to maintain authenticity and cook with rich native ingredients. They do all the chillies themselves. So do dine here for authentic "non-adjusted" Singapore/Malaysian food. The owner is a very nice person too!!! Never did I expect such restaurant in Hobart.

After trying to find a restaurant open in Hobart on a Saturday night that has some vegan dishes, we arrived not long before the kitchen closed. We were greeted and made to feel very welcome. Our waitress was helpful in checking what everyone could eat. The food was delicious! To top it off we finished with a specially made vegan version of Singapore Ice Kacang. As visitors to Hobart, we felt we had been lucky to find such a gem of a restaurant.
Wonderful accomodating and kind staff, delicious food, and very affordable. Five stars!
Simon
Friendly staff, good sized (larger than most) portions, child friendly, authentic, and a lovely laksa. Casual dining (more like a cafe than restaurant). The kids loved the "Bandung" drink and it wasn't too sweet. I'd eat there again.
TommyTucker
Decent Unpretentious malaysian food. Found this restaurant under Asian rather than Malaysian. As ex Singaporeans and Malaysians, happy to say food is decent and quite reasonable.
Very helpful staff and happy to stay open when there were late diners.
Deserves a go.

Went for lunch, food was good. Serving wasn't that generous though. Be prepared for moderate waiting time but i think its worth the wait. On the whole we enjoyed the food.

The food is awesome. Had the laksa and the nasi lemak and both were so good. I'm a Malaysian and I can say I'm addicted to the nasi lemak at this place just love it. And with great and friendly service. This place has to be tried out.
Callum
Delicious food and friendly service, we had the Hainanese chicken rice and Hor Fun and enjoyed both of them.

Kopi is coffee, and tiam is shop. So, literally, a cafe. You know the place is good when Singaporean girls come out of the shop all smiles with a full tummy, shouting, thanks auntie for the lovely meal, to the lady behind the counter. The 'auntie' offered two different types of noodles for my laksa, asked if I wanted it cooked there or would I do it at home, and offered to give separate bags for the soup and noodles so the noodles don't get soggy by the time I actually eat them. That's good service for you. I devoured those noodles, I was so hungry! Kopitiam Singapore Cafe 86 Collins Street Hobart TAS 7000

You'll be hard pressed to find good Asian food in all of Tasmania sadly. However one place stands out among the rest and it is Hobart's Singapore Kopitiam.
