Review The Italian Pantry - Hobart

Kyra Mackenzie
Beautiful deli and amazing selection of cold meats, cheeses and olives. The Sicilian olives were so juicy and lemony… delicious

Came across this beautiful shop whilst visiting from Melbourne and couldn’t leave Tassie without stocking up on cape grim beef, homemade gourmet soups, cakes and other delights - amazing quality and very reasonable prices. They even packed it up in a cold bag with ice for the plane ride home. If you love quality great tasting food, this place is a must when visiting Hobart!

Convenient location, just off the Salamanca strip. Plenty of high-quality deli produce - meats, sandwiches, pies and lasagna. Their lasagna and shepherds pie are well worth the try - quite possibly the best in Hobart.

Lovely little shop. Stocks meats, cheeses, preserves, chocolates, fresh bread and more. The goods look lovely, I've only purchased gifts for others there but received very positive reviews in return. Staff were friendly and approachable.

This beautiful little place is a fantastic international deli with all kinds of gourmet foods! If I lived in Hobart I'd shop here all the time.

Small shop with a cosy, neighbourhood deli feel that is crammed with local and imported foods. Refrigerated glass fronted cabinets displayed a delicious looking array of sandwiches, quiches, pies and also casseroles for take home and heat meals.
Mighty Brown Mouse
such a fantastic german dehli and a nice range of local and imported wines, it is a delight to step in and swoon over the variety of german and local produce.

You may remember the Italian Pantry when it was in Federal Street. Great place for coffee, lunch and the best place to buy your fresh pasta and sauces as well as cheeses and specialty Italian products. Well they have now moved to Murray Street (just opposite K&D) and they have evolved. Still offering all of the above but also dinner Thursday-Saturday nights. The food was excellent! I had slow cooked pork belly which was melt in your mouth with crispy skin.... perfect, my better half had a pepperoni pizza which is cooked in a wood fired oven and in his words.... yum!! We can’t wait to return to try another dish.

This is my favourite place to eat in Hobart. The atmosphere is easygoing, rustic and friendly. The staff are lovely, the food is first rate and we always enjoy a night out with family here.

The real deal. The new woodfire pizza oven cooks Great pizza, crispy base with fresh toppings. The pantry has great Sicilian products and deli has the best mortadella and pork and fennel sausage you will have ever tasted. Flavour and friendly service.

We enjoyed a delicious meal at the Italian Pantry last Thurs. The pizzas were just like those we ate in Italy. Great service & atmosphere with super friendly staff. It's just a pity we don't live in Hobart. Grazie Mille guys.

We love the Italian Pantry in Murray Street- Excellent service, especially from enthusiastic Antonio, fabulous " real" food, authentic Italian drinks/ wines, and who can resist browsing in the Deli....... We will be back again this week!!!!!!

Best pizza I've had in hobart. Base cooked through, light and chewy. Not too many toppings like a lot of pizzas have. Good range of Italian products in the deli as well.

The arranchi is brilliant. The aioli is great. Not a great vibe if you're walking off the street. Good for a quick office lunch. The selection is a bit lacklustre.

The Italian Pantry- Hobart have recently set up shop on Murray Street where the old Home & Garden used to be. The interior is shared between a deli section (a great selection of fresh pasta, olives, all sorts of condiments and even some fresh Tasmanian truffles!!), and their small but welcoming cafe/restaurant.

Even since our student times in Adelaide, where 2-for-1 mains with a carafe of 'house red' at the Highbury Pasta House was a big night out, I've had a massive soft spot for a puttanesca pasta. Salty kalamata olives, fresh herbs, garlic and a hit of chilli...there's nothing better!

It's safe to say that the puttanesca from The Italian Pantry is fantastic ($22.50)! I've never seen so many olives and capers in a single bowl, the pasta had been cooked perfectly al dente, and the chef had showed considerable restraint with the oil, a failing I've noticed in almost every other puttanesca in the past.

If it's something a little bit lighter you're after then the toasted piadina will be right up your alley ($12.50). Fresh tomatoes, thinly shaved smallgoods, melted cheese...the quality in the ingredients shines through!

The wine list contains an interesting range of Italian and local drops. Seating is limited, so if you're looking to try them at peak hours then consider booking ahead :)

Gustoso!!

It was a blustery old day in Hobart and we felt like some comfort food. Headed here as we'd read good things about the cafe and shop. We were warmly greeted, a change to a menu item to suit a veggie was easily done and service was naturally friendly. Good portions of pasta at $14.50 is cheap as far as I'm concerned ($20+ for the same in Melb). Our desserts were warmed doughnuts filled with custard and chocolate (or you could have plain). So light and just beautiful. Wish we had somewhere back home like this. A big part of its charm is the fact that's hidden away in the back streets. Parking was easy and free. Oh and I should mention the grocery store is fun to browse. The cheese room is amazing! Next time I'm in Hobart, I'll be back.

Went there for a coffee today with my mum, she got a capachino which was alright. I ordered a mocha which had no taste and was so bad I couldn't even drink it.

Always Brilliant. My family and I are greeted like treasured friends at this gorgeous establishment. The coffee is perfect, the food deserving of the prestigious award of "Most Authentic Italian in Australasia" recently won from Rome. Their effort to serve and provide highest quality food is so appreciated by all the locals and our visitors from elsewhere alike. They offer useful free cooking tutorials and tastings from time to time as well.

Great escape on a cold winters day. Enjoyed a tasty pasta lunch with friends
good flavours and authentic italian taste..............I am italian descent...........so the flavour was reminicent of mamas
BUT coffee and mochas were SO Disappointing
lacked flavour and were tepid
donuts ..............don't waste your time
am inclined to try again
give them another chance to get it right

Nothing special. I suspect the rating I'm giving here could be to do with me being a bit spoilt by the cafe culture I've been used to back in Melbourne.
The food's ok but nothing particularly special. Coffee quite average, certainly no artistry in it (As in, I'd expect better at Hudsons or Gloria Jeans) The place was freezing (no heater/Air conditioning!) and had half-week-old newspapers.

But still, I know of some others who love the place - perhaps I've just been expecting too much?

When people close to you effuse that it’s THE BEST Italian restaurant outside the old country you can’t help but get heightened expectations. Oh the shame! This Girl could no longer bear the embarrassment of not knowing the Italian Pantry. It was time to dust off Boozy Friday Lunch Friend. We found the Italian Pantry to be in much the same vein as Bottega Rotolo: half eatery, half deli. Unlike Bottega Rotolo, the seating is not bar tables which makes the Italian Pantry feel much more cosy, less cluttered and certainly more like a restaurant. The Italian Pantry gets accolades for their Friday night dinners. We went for lunch and perhaps our expectations should have been mooted as a result. Anyhoo, here are our observations. Greet your customer – we stood at the counter for an uncomfortable period without any acknowledgement by the wait staff like ‘hello’ or ‘I’ll be with you shortly’. We’re here for lunch not a lesson – My pronunciation of gnocchi can get me by, but C
