Review Sakura - Hobart

I love the sushi at Sakura. I only am in Hobart part of the year, and when I am away I dream about their vegetarian sushi. So good - and I am not a vegetarian!

The most amazing sushi place you will ever visit. I go here all the time, always the freshest and most high quality fish used in their sushi. staff is so very welcoming and lovely. Best spot in Hobart for sushi. No other place could ever compare

Short wait times. Excellent value for money, excellent recipes and chefs. Consistent for over a decade and always on my list of must go places when visiting Hobart.

You will get what you pay for, which means you wouldn't regret in terms of the amount of money you pay as it's reasonable price. However, it wouldn't be impressive or fantastic. It is nice quick-easy-low price meal, no more than that. You can imagine taste perhaps, as it's just like the one you could possibly get it from the food court.

Friendly service, sushi was fresh and quite tasty. We ordered take away and food was ready in about 10 minutes.

The menu on the wall promised so much. It was so enticing. The pictures paint an idea of a nice Asian meal. Pictures say a lot, but if you can't deliver, the promises are empty. We had dinner here. Quite disappointing really. Let's go through the dishes. Soy chicken rice dish. Chicken was overcooked and dry, the rice was stale and unappealing. Choy was passable. Choice of soy flavours wasn't as expected. Not a great effort. Hainan chicken rice. Again, the rice was stale, there was NO chicken flavouring in the rice. I got some lame cucumber. The chicken was pretty plain and not flavoursome. The ginger sauce was weird. Definitely not Hainan chicken rice as you would expect. Maybe it was leftovers from a few days earlier. The stir fried beef flat rice noodles dish was odd too. Celery but no onions. No bbq pork for added flavour. Just plain odd. Sure, these guys can speak Cantonese, but to me it seemed they couldn't cook it. At the end of the meal it was a big disappointment that they couldn't get some basic dishes together. I wouldn't want to come back. There must be better Asian shops around.

Been in twice this week because it is freshly hand made sushi to order and delicious! Some of the best sushi I’ve had in a long time.

One of the best priced, delicious Japanese spots in the Elizabeth Mall area - the staff prepares meals authentically and they're friendly. If you have the option, sit down for your meal as take-out portions tend to be smaller than what you'd get in the store.

Some of the best sushi I've ever eaten, the raw salmon and tuna was amazingly fresh and buttery and the rice was perfection! Very friendly staff too! Highly recommended to sushi lovers everywhere.

I came in here for dinner tonight with my family and ordered my favourite Chicken Laksa we waited ages and ages and then our number was called and they came over with our food in take away containers. I never said or was asked if I wanted take away. I definitely wanted to dine in. We asked if the waitress could put it in proper bowls because it tastes better. We waited and as we waited a different waitress called our number again and again brought our meals over in take away containers. We we finally got our Laksas they were only luke warm and the waitress just shoved them at us no apology no acknowledgement what so ever she was silent. This was the worst customer service I have ever had from here which is a shame as this is a favourite of ours :( was so disappointed as we love your restaurant and go here at least once a week. The way the waitress just shoved the laksas down not even looking at us or acknowledgement of us. No apologies not a word was so disappointed

The food was great, but customer service needs attending to. My friend and I ordered at the same time. Only after a few mins, my friends meal was served and we thought ....wow!! this is quick, but alas not so. I had to wait quiet a while. After inquiring about my long wait, the waiter explained that they were cooking the same dish for another diner as my friend had ordered at the same time so it was served straight away!! Friend had nearly finished hers before mine came out. Doubt if we will be returning.

Tasty sushi! Awesome chilli on the table! good straight to the point service. All dishes I've had so far have been tasty, and they were even willing to make up some vegeterian nori rolls when they were closed :3 these guys are the best! Thank you!

Worst customer service ever . They made a mistake with our order and instead of apologizing like any normal restaurant would , they shouted at us and then complained about us to the other staff . Food was bland and not real Japanese . Terrible.

Average food. Good for a quick lunch and after school snacks. High performance cost ratio. But the sashimi is not the best in town. Maybe I should try the Chinese cuisine instead of the Japanese.

Its more like a Chinese restaurant than a japanese one. food are all tasty and not expensive. the fried rice and cantonese beef noodle are good.

When the temperature feels like it's below zero in Hobart, you can no longer feel your nose or face, and your partner snubs holding hands in favour of the warmth of her jacket pockets (hahaha) anything that is warm will do. So, a Hudsons Coffee for my fiancée to lift her internal thermostat (it worked a treat) and a short walk from the Hobart Central mall and we found Sakura.

As my fiancée is partial to a hardy soup when it's cold, she settled on the BBQ Pork Noodle Soup and I went for the Singapore Noodles coz I cannot recall the last time I ate this dish. Dull old me.

As the photos show, both dishes were fresh and well cooked, presented beautifully, veggies crispy and not overdone. And while I have eaten Singapore Noodles at many restaurants over the years none had the quantity of seafood and veggies that Sakura's had - it was seriously packed! Very generous indeed.

Similar ambience and price range to comparable Asian restaurants in Melbourne like CY Sushi & Noodles or Menya (about $23 for two) on Elizabeth Street, it almost felt like we were dining at an Asian restaurant near home.

Great for sushi - i like traditonal sushi where rice is soft (not freezing cold & compacted), without mayonnaise and rice to filling ratio to be half-half. They offer plenty of variety sushi, spicy salmon being my favourite. Top marks for sushi chef.

They also offer dumplings & noodles prepared by a different chef. Despite trying number of times I cannot say they are very good. The noodles are too oily & salty (the kind that repeats on you all day) and dumplings are nothing to speak of.

I give 🖒 only for sushi component at this place.

The Duck Noodle Soup was yummy but their sushi is average. Despite the noodle soup being yummy, points were taken off because of the long wait for the noodles. The sushi is average but slightly abit more expensive than your average sushi shop.

A few years ago, this restaurant use to be my go-to lunch destination for fast, easy and tasty stir fried dishes. Haven't been back for the dishes since finding MSG not only in the noodles, but also in the chilli sauce!

Admittedly I have been lured back a couple of times since for the sushi, but now that more sushi outlets have opened up nearby, I don't feel a need to revisit unless things significantly change.

Horrible customer service and even more horrible food. I was unfortunate to order una don and misu soup in this place . The stuff is very rude and has no idea about customer service . I've received the soup after the main . The food was plain and in undercooked .
The price is also expensive raging into account how bad this place is .

Avoid this place like a plague !

Horrible service and even more you me food. I was unfortunate to order Una Don in this place . The food is plain and undercooked , the staff is rude and brought a main cours first and misu solo afterwards.

The prices are also expensive given the low quality of this place .

Stay away from this place !

Best takeaway in Hobart. Pity it's closed on Sunday. Food was sensational and had that nice smokey flavour. We bought a takeaway dinner on Friday night and was absolutely delicious!

Best meal I've had in Tasmania. We went around Tasmania and ate in many cities including Launceston and Bicheno, but the best meals we had, taking account of the price, were from Sakura. Both the sushi and the Chinese dishes (noodle or rice dishes) were excellent! They had lots of choices, all in a reasonable price range.
HappyTraveller
The sushi is the highlight of this place. You can also order from a menu of largely Chinese dishes too. But we really enjoyed the made to order sushi
Josh
Beijing Pork is a great choice for a cheap lunch. Quick, friendly service and tasty food.

Without a doubt the best/freshest sushi bar in hobart, possibly Australia
