Review Mako Fresh Fish - Hobart

Sebastien Robin
One of the better place for fresh and frozen seafood in Hobart... Good menu too. Try the fish cakes!

Food was good, but the service attitude of a lady staff there was very upsetting for our family. We were there twice during our stay in Hobart, one time to eat in and one time to eat out. We all have our good days and bad days, and we can all understand that. So, despite of the grumpy service we received from her the first time we were there, we decided to go back since, we are after the food, more than the service. Second time we were there to take out food, my daughter was thirsty, so we asked for a sip of water. Because we were only taking out food this time, out of courtesy, we did not help ourselves at the self-serve drinking station. Instead, we decided asked first. To our surprise and disappointment, she refused to give my daughter water, not because there was no water, as there were bottles of tap water all filled up clearly visible at the station. We were rejected because, according to the lady, the glasses she had are wine glasses, not to be used for water! It is kind of humiliating to be told of this. Our skin colour may be seen different, but we do not think we have trouble telling between drinking glasses and wine glasses. Service is not everything, but in an eating place, courteous, kind staff who understands some basics of hospitality does make a difference.

Lovely seafood, we're normally vegetarian but this was well worth eating meat for. Chips were freshly cut, fish was fresh and perfectly cooked. Got the mako basket and everything was cooked to perfection. Lovely store too, it's new and we'll decorated. Would come again and recommend to anyone.

Not very friendly customer service. I was standing inside for more than 5 mins but no one talked to me. Food was okay but not the excellent one. I have something better n cheaper.

Excellent food. We had the mako basket which had a crumbed fish, crumbed scallops, house cut chips, garlic prawns and calamari. Great customer service.

Spot on. Fresh fish with good salad. Cooked really well. By nice people.

Great fish and chips, a little on the pricier side but worth it.

Nice range of fresh seafood, and reasonable prices.
