Review Dome - Hobart

Russell King
Rating for the coffee and service, which we found both spot on! Coffee (decaf) was great and good ice lattes, while also providing a high level of service! Lots of comfortable seating and newspapers to read

We were walking around looking for somewhere to eat lunch and came across the Dome Cafe. We ordered the share platter and honestly didn't expect it to be any good... Boy were our expectations blown out of the water. We ordered the squid, meatballs, and chicken tenders with a side of wedges and everything was great! The squid was tasty and worked really well with the lime aioli. The meatballs were moist and paired with the tomato chutney. The chicken tenders had a slight taste of cinnamon and it was amazing, who knew chicken and cinnamon worked well together? Everything was cooked perfectly, the wedges were nice and crunchy without being burnt. Over all, a great lunch, thank you!

Interiors of the place are great especially the ceiling, one booth had exposed filling/ ripped cushion, should be repaired. Food was hit and miss, my pulled pork sliders were disappointing, dry, bland and the wedges were salty, needing a bit of sour cream and sweet chilli sauce. For 17.95 for two small burgers, surely you could put a small serve of them on the side instead of the boring pickles? My son asked for the sour cream but apparently it's extra charge, I told him, it's ok, he got some tomato sauce but it was awful too, not happy, didn't finish the wedges at all!The chicken parmigiana was good according to our son, and the chicken burger was dry, our eldest one said. My husband's chicken tikka masala was okay but such a small serve for almost $20 I think. Coffees were great according to the boys. So Dome is great for coffees but if you are hungry wanting a satisfying meal, this place is NOT for you! We prefer the other Asian places in the area especially Dumpling World.

This is one cafe I always visit when in Hobart. The food quality is always consistent (i.e. it's good). There's always a good selection of food choices. It has a largish dining area with booths, tables and window seats. Order your meals at the counter but it's brought to you when ready.

Surprised with the low rating! Very tasty coffee and nice staff. Maybe a little more expensive than others but the seatings are great, music is classic, great decoration, chesterfield sofas, and very comfortable.

Great range of food for breakfast, meal or snack - decent coffee and friendly helpful staff.

Have come here many times. Disappointed this time. Place is looking a little dowdy. Was disappointed in the food considering the price paid. Bread was toasted only on one. Pepper was in the salt shaker. Just not up to usual standards.

Overpriced, substandard food. Ordered the Salt and Pepper Squid Salad with Thai dressing. When it came out, it looked NOTHING like the picture! On a dinner plate was a little hand-sized bowl with eight little pieces of dark brown, over cooked, over salted squid. The ‘salad’ was on the plate and consisted of a dozen baby spinach leaves, two pieces of red pepper, some onion and cucumber, with watery store bought mayonnaise on top. The Thai dressing was in a separate bowl. This didn’t look the image in the menu! I should have sent it back!! For nearly $20, it was a rip-off! They won’t give you a glass of water. You have to serve yourself from a dispenser, using paper cups! if you charge these prices, you can, at least, give customers a glass of water! Coffee was weak and tasteless!

This cafe was recommended to me by a friend who’s very familiar with Hobart. The cafe has a lovely setting with good staff. The fruit smoothies were delicious. On the other hand, our big/vegetarian breakfasts were cold after waiting a very long time for them when it was not that busy.

Nice looking cafe. I was there on Sunday about 10:15am and it was moderatly busy. Ordered iced mocha and advocado, bacon and egg on toast. The iced mocha was nice but my partners coffee took too long to come out. When we got the meals the advocado was from a bottle not fresh like the picture and the food was cold. We saw all around people comenting on how long coffee was taking to be brought to the table and tables were all dirty not cleaned away. I would say they were understaffed which is a shame as the Perth W.A Dome Cafe was quite nice.

Excellent Food and Service 10/10. I am appalled to read the negative feedback on this site for Dome!!! We have always received fabulous service, the food and drinks are very reasonably priced and substantial!
I think alot of people do not understand the concept of ordering at the counter....
My Son LOVES coming here and always insists we go here on the weekends, or that his grandparents bring him, as the staff are so nice to him! There are colouring in pictures and pencils and they have a new Kid's play area downstairs, which is a god send!
For such a big cafe it is always very clean and tidy and the staff cope with the 2 dining rooms very well!!
Keep up the good work guys!!!
One very happy family here!!! :-)

Too busy to deliver. I had lunch here with a friend yesterday and was a bit disappointed. The young man serving was great! It was a very busy time (Christmas rush) and he wasn't receiving any help from other staff.
My friend and I ordered the same dish for our kids (chicken tenders) and got two different things brought out (ours was just two chicken strip things).
I had a chicken parmy which was almost flavourless! The chips had a nice enough texture, soft inside, crunchy outside but absolutely no flavour!
So the service was good but the food wasn't.

I am surprised by the reviews for this cafe... We have visited everyday whilst on our holiday and we have LOVED it! All the staff are friendly efficient & extremely helpful! The food was excellent value for money and tasty, especially the breakfasts!! 10 out of 10 from us and our group!!! Keep up the good work!!

Don't go to Dome Coffe Shop Elizabeth St Hobart. Appalling service , and abused by staff for supposed wrong behaviour of which no explanation was given . Smirking staff , non helpful and a horrible end to an otherwise delightful day . Hospitality elsewhere in Hobart brilliant this establishment letting everyone down.

Walked in and sat in the comfy leather chairs in the window, but that's we're te positives ended. The table hasn't been cleared and the empty mug and muffin wrapper remained on our table until we walked out. The menu was way to large, I know what coffees loo like, I don't need full size picture of each different variety taking up a page. The menu was quite overpriced for a small city like Hobart. $3.80 for a shot of espresso. There were plenty of staff around, behind the counter and walking past us but none decided to greet us or offer us a drink, let alone clear the table. After well of five minutes of waiting to order a coffee we decided to leave. I can understand the 38% rating on here.
That Coffee Guy
Average coffee and a long wait for two coffees, of which none were small because they only have one size. Wouldn't recommend.

This place made me want to set myself on fire. The breakfast was excellent... If the chef was in fact an 8 year old child attempting breakfast for the very first time on Father's Day. It took an hour, the toast was wet from the soggy eggs and it was cold. On the plus side, all of this was hidden by the delightful parsley tree that was tragically uprooted from life to accompany this monstrosity. The only good thing about this restaurant after four days of camping was that the toilet wasn't a long drop. I advise that you enter only to use this...and then leave.

The male manager was so terrible and rude to us! We won't be going back here ever again. We made the mistake of sitting down stairs when it was closed, something that wasn't obvious as there were people sitting and eating there. We were asked to move upstairs, which we did.. But the request was made in a very rude way. On finding the manager who had spoken to us in the abrupt way, we explained that he shouldn't have spoken to us so sharply, especially because we had elderly parents and that we weren't aware of the section being closed off, to which the manager replied "you should be sorry for being down there".

He continued to make our experience bad by telling all his colleagues about us, with all of them giving us dirty looks from behind the counter. We eventually asked for a refund and left.

The way in which the whole situation was blown out of proportion due to the manager's anger and rudeness.

GREAT place to Dine for all the Family!. We have had so many fantastic experiences at Dome Cafe in Hobart's CBD. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful and always greet us with a smile. They are very accomodating to our children and go out of their way to assist us in any way they can. The food and drinks are reasonably priced and delicious and their menu is very extensive. They even have Junior menus that have puzzles and colouring ins, plus they give you pencils! Our children LOVE Dome as much as we do and always ask to go there!
