Superb pho - a really tasty complex soup with lots of very tender beef served very rare, plus big serves for low prices and nice fast staff. I might prefer a heavier soup (e.g., Pho Mom) and more kick - no spice in the soup and no chilli sauce so you're stuck with adding chunks of chilli - but Pho Toan Thang is definitely among the best in Sydney.

Chicken and beef brisket noodles were delicious. Good flavours and portion size.
Friendly staff and good service.
It does get busy so best to come before peak time.
Will recommend and come back to try other dishes.

Absolutely loved the pho broth - very flavourful and didn’t make me feel thirsty afterwards. Their crispy chicken was quite good too. Portions are very generous so sharing two dishes between three would be good.

Best pho in Sydney for mine. Broth is flavourful without being too salty, toppings are perfectly done and generous, service is quick and price is reasonable. To top it off their other menu items are also delicous if youre not feeling like pho. And yeah they give you a choice of raw or cooked bean sprouts, brilliant.

Its hard to get parking and the decor is straight of out of a 1980s hong kong movie sticky tables and all. But still 5 stars for the food

Consistently good pho with super fast service. Food comes out within 5 minutes of ordering everytime. Texture of rice noodles here is always perfect, which is pretty impressive as it's quite easy to overcook. Soup is decent but not amazing. However could do with more toppings, feel like there is not enough meat especially in the combination which is $13.50 nowadays.

I tried the crispy chicken with dried vermicelli and tender beef rice noodle soup. The crispy chicken was delicious, very juicy and refreshing with the noodles and vegetables. The noodle soup also had great flavours, although the beef could have been fresher.

Food service was extremely speedy, both dishes arrived under 2 minutes. Big servings too - 2 people, 2 dishes with leftovers to takeaway. Customer service was friendly but rushed, although that was expected given the line at the door. Very fast turnover, they don't expect you to linger - get in knowing your order, eat and then get out, more people want yummy food!

Great food - particularly enjoyed the crispy chicken with tomato rice. The laksa was a bit too spicy for me but my companions absolutely demolished the dish. Service was shockingly quick and food was really cheap considering how tasty it was.

Unfortunately, customer service could improve. Had one staff member complaining about working long hours and having to wait for customers to finish whilst mopping the floors beside us as we were trying to enjoy our meal.

Super quick service in your typical little Vietnamese restaurant style.

A simple little place which is constantly busy with people coming and going.
The menu seems to focus around pho and vermicelli noodle dishes.

The sizzling garlic prawns were hot and there was about 10 prawns on the dish. The combination vermicelli was big and tasted fresh. A few different types of protein came with it from sprung roll to a meatball to some mystery meat.

Prices of Vietnamese restaurants in this area are increasing. It cost us about $30 for the two dishes.

Staff are not friendly. They are just there doing their job.

Amazing pho, amazing staff

This hidden gem is conveniently located near Flemington station. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted to a homey welcoming staff (all of whom have worked there for years). The decor is very traditional with menus placed all along the walls. Alternatively the staff will always provide you with their menu, offering a generous assortment of Vietnamese cuisines.

I ordered a bowl of beef brisket pho which came within minutes. They give you a hearty heap of tender rich beef soaked into their delicious beef broth. The noodles are distinct and unlike most other pho noodles, giving a uniquely soft but gentle bite. The soup is sensational and on par, if not better than the best pho shops in sydney.
I also added a few pieces of chilli to my soup and I have to say, they are the hottest chilli I have ever tasted.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the pho, truly offering an amazing foodie experience with the feeling of belonging at home. Definitely worth a try if you are passing by homebush, you will not regret it!

This place seems to always be busy the few times I've been here. This time it's Sunday brunch time, and they were full, but the staff were very efficient and keeping eye out on everything so we got seated pretty quickly. I had their "famous" combination special beef noodle soup, and it's a pretty good one, with flavoursome soup, all types of beef cuts, good amount of noodles. My friends had the spring roll vermicelli salad and the salted fish chicken & Tofu hot pot with rice. The serving was so huge, the plate of rice alone is enough to feed all 3 of us. The hot pot was also pretty big. They are popular for good reasons.

Combination pho was great, the meat used was good quality and tasty broth.

Pork chop broken rice plate came out hot and fresh and delicious but our only complaint was that the pork chop was quite small.

The service was standard but prompt and the food came out really quick which was a bonus, we will definently go back

The 2nd best pho I have had in Syndey , really complex broth , enuf meat and super fast service. Ofcourse its cash only and there arent any ATM's nearby so be careful. Also the pork and tomato rice ,laksa, crispy chicken is good. But I recommend to go for the rare beef pho. 11 $ for a high class meal.

Great recommendation for Vietnamese right next to the Flemington train station. Luckily we went early at 11am, there was a long queue by 1230pm! I had the pho combo which was quite nice. The noodles were fresh and smooth. Soup was flavorsome but can't compare to the ones in Cabramatta (expected!). My friends loved their beef noodle dishes. Managed to visit the Sydney Markets as well which is located on the other side of the train station! 👍

A truly authentic Sydney Asian dining experience:
Oily floors? Check.
Tasty, savoury dishes? Check.
Waiters shouting at each other? Check.
Immaculate pho? Check.
Waiters shouting at me when ordering? Check.
Incessantly loud and vibrant atmosphere? Check.

Zero regrets coming here as usual - the value for money in terms of taste and portion is one of the best in Sydney, especially given the questionable rises in pho pricing at the most random joints. After being borderline verbally abused when asking questions about a particular dish, my positive experience was further highlighted by a majestic serving of pho and (actually) crispy skin chicken.

Only criticism/thing to be wary about is ordering anything stir fried as it may take a bit (10 minutes for me) longer, since it can’t be pre-emptively prepared/stored.

The shop is a small one and an old one. Although dishes look ugly, some taste good.

I ordered two rice, one dine in, another take away. The first was #Pork chop with tomato sauce rice# The fried pork meat is crispy and tender.

But the other one that I took away was #Beef braised with rice#, which was sour for the soup. And the beef was not that as much as the pork rice.

When I paid my bill and left, I forgot my take away food. The staff were kind and reminded me of that.

A lot of people told me about this place of having the best Pho and finally decided to try their Pho. I'm glad I did. We ordered the seafood laksa and Pho. The laksa was ok but Pho was amazing! Definitely the best Pho I've ever had. They don't have many entree options but mainly you would come here for the Pho. The broth was so good! Definitely will come back again soon.

This hole in the wall restaurant is one of my favourite places for pho in Sydney. If you come here during peak lunch time and weekends, you'll definitely run into a bit of a queue. Despite this, the turnover is quite fast so I don't think I've ever waited more than 15 minutes to be seated. Upon entering, the staff will ask how many people are in your party. Table sharing allows the turnover to be quite fast.

I usually come here for the rare beef noodle soup. However I can also say the tomato rice with crispy skin chicken and pork chop are pretty decent. The same also goes for their crispy skin chicken and pork chop with vermicelli salad. They also have banh cuon, but it is listed as 'Vietnamese pancakes' on their menu. The banh cuon is okay, there are definitely better banh cuon dishes in Bankstown and Cabramatta though.

Their soy milk isn't watered down which is something I also love!

Overall great food, great price and recommend if you're in the area!

One of many Vietnamese-Chinese restaurants in the Flemington area. This one is the most popular. On Saturday lunchtimes expect to see a huge line out the door. The service can feel a bit rushed, they clear your plates/bowls very quickly after you finished. Standout dishes include pho, beef fried rice noodle and pork chop with tomato rice. Other things on the menu are mediocre.

Despite being a regular here, I've never reviewed this restaurant, purely because I could never actually remember the name of it. My dad calls it 'the salty fish and chicken fried rice place' (his favourite dish) while my friends all refer to 'the busy one in the ghetto alley'. Name games aside, the only things that have changed in the last decade are the slowly increasing prices.

Pho duc biet is what most people come here for as the soup is well balanced, clean on the palate and loaded with the usual suspects. Unfortunately they don't offer many slices of rare beef, which is probably why the broth is never cloudy; but they do compensate by adding heaps of tripe. Salted fish fried rice almost always has more chicken than rice, a strong heat from the wok, and not a single complaint from dad. I do enjoy their combination broken rice (substituted with tomato rice) and often order a crispy chicken drumstick on the side. This is what my family's average meal looks like and it only costs about $40!

The decor is very dated and the floor is dangerously slippery. Staff are courteous but don't expect much else as you pay for what you get. Access is convenient with a free carpark in the vicinity. Great no frills restaurant that will be around for a long time.

Ok so the Pho was very tasty and delicious. But the service was below average. Two of us walk in there and they place us on a table with two other people and then they ask me to move so they can place another two people on the table. So out for dinner with my friend, I had 4 other randoms on the same table, what the? Lucky another table was available and we moved. Come here for the food and not for service !!

Visiting Sydney for the long weekend and while in Homebush found this one while walking by. At 3.30pm it was still full of Asian patrons - a promising sign. Just your average little asian restaurant that serves viet/chinese food. I'd have to say I've been here quite a few times and have tried quite a few dishes. There are a few 'hit and misses' here and there but in general, I found the food to be quite good. I especially like the short waiting time. However, my favourite dishes would have to be the crispy skin chicken with tomato rice and the Pho. I would definitely come back just for these!

My friend recommended Pho Toan Thang for a quick lunch in Homebush. It's a cheap and cheerful restaurant with lots of tables crammed full of customers.  I suggest you get there a bit early or expect a wait. There is complimentary tea which is common in Vietnamese restaurants. I love a good bowl of Pho, so does my friend so we both ordered the Pho of noodle soup with raw beef ($9.50, top photo). I topped my pho with thai basil, chili sauce and a touch of lemon juice. The broth is beautiful, with depth of meaty flavours. The noodles are soft, long and soak up the broth. The beef slowly cooks in the broth which I like. A definite recommend.

A special place in my heart for Pho Toan Thang as it is my local Vietnamese restaurant and the consistency in every single visit is the best thing about it. Yes you might have to wait in line on a Saturday or share a table with 3 other families but it's all part of the fun and atmosphere of this hole in the wall restaurant that pumps out the best Vietnamese in the area. Pork chop with red rice is one of our favorites but no dish has disappointed. Cash only!!

Only been here once before, due to my best friend who insisted that this restaurant has been a family favourite for years.

We ordered the spicy beef noodles and the sizzling prawn hot plate with rice. The spicy beef noodles had that delicious smoky taste and the prawns, which had clearly been marinated, were bursting with flavour and cooked before us. The iced milk tea had the perfect amount of sweetness. It was slightly lukewarm towards the beginning of the meal but the ice had cooled it towards the end.

Very popular with the locals, however we were lucky enough to be seated immediately during lunch hour. Family friendly (read some kids screaming/crying, so perhaps not the best place to hold a first date!)

Bottom line: good food, super affordable. Don't come here if you want a nice setting and great ambience. It can get quite loud.

Can't wait to go back and try the tomato rice and crispy chicken/pork, as well as the Mongolian lamb (recommendation by the best friend again!)

PS: went back. Ordered pho. My friend found a piece of the steel wool sponges in her soup so that wasn't the best....

Long queue always drives people to try. I strongly believe this is due to their comprehesive menu and good value food. If you can only eat one dish and can handle spicy food then definitely order their Satay beef noodle. Divine. Unfortunately other dishes are not that impressive. Tried various version of their pho not even in our top ten list. Food come out quickly and wait staff is attentive.

Bottomline : Good food. Great service. Good value.

A great place for an express eat - all food comes to your table quickly. The satay beef noodle soup is highly recommended, and is one of their signature dishes. It's reasonably spicy, with a rather viscous soup, plenty of noodles and beef. The combination flat rice stir fry noodles are also good. Don't come here expecting anything aside from a quick meal - don't expect good or friendly service, or even comfortable dining as the inside is rather cramped, and if you're in a small party, you're most likely going to be sharing with other diners. Might also be a bit of a wait, but in general, it's reasonably quick .

Very loud, very busy, very Chinese.
Upon arrival there was quite a line with two big groups ahead of us. But we didn't have to wait too long. Really fast service!
And the food came really fast too.
Massive portions, very good price. We left feeling very happy and satisfied.

Thoughts on the Laksa: It's hard finding a good bowl of laksa these days, it was not bad at all. This was probably on a bit of a sweeter side. Not too spicy though so good for the general population. Nice and creamy :)

Thoughts on the Pho: The items on the menu seems more from a Chinese range. I ordered the rare beef noodle soup (Vietnamese Pho) was a tad worried. Quite a bit of oil on top. But it turned out very nice. Good balance of flavours and the beef wasn't overly chewy.

Or if you're really lucky there may be no queue at all. This Vietnamese-Chinese restaurant is well known among the local community for its cheap, consistently delicious food and fast turnover. So don't let the line deter you, it simply indicates a level of popularity and cult-like following signals a good feed. It's not the kind of place you would take someone for a good chat or catch-up. Many come here for the pho, a huge bowl of silky thin rice noodles and thin mounds of rare beef swimming in a perfectly balanced, intensely flavoured beef soup. This is one of the best phos we've tasted in Sydney, and a favourite whenever we visit. Top it with provided bean sprouts, Vietnamese mint and a squeeze of lemon. Another favourite of ours is the Vermicelli salad, listed 'dried vermicelli' on the menu, that is topped with a golden pork chop or, on another visit, a combination of spring rolls and grilled pork. The pork chop is crunchy with all its deep-fried goodness, cut into manageable-sized pieces and sprinkled with a mound of spring onion and chopped peanuts for a layer of texture and crunch.

There might be a dozen restaurants near Flemington station but Pho Toan Thang is the only one you can guarantee will have a queue out the front. A long-held favourite with locals, the dining room is heaving with families, toddlers, couples, groups of friends and wizened pensioners. During peak hours, the queue out the front can be twenty-deep. Pho Toan Thang might have a Vietnamese name, but the menu covers both Vietnamese and Cantonese dishes. The dining room offers the usual DIY set-up, with chopsticks, cutlery, condiments and tissues-for-napkins on every table. Don’t be surprised if you’re asked to share your table with others during busy periods. The classic pho dac biet , or combination beef rice noodle soup gets star billing on the menu, a huge bowl of clear broth packed with rice noodles, beef tendon, beef balls and thin shavings of beef. Best fried pork chops. I've been coming here since I was a child with my family, and now by myself/with friends. Throughout the years, I have never strayed far from their fried pork chops noodle soup. I must say it's not as good as years ago, but it is still much better than any other pho place out there now. There is barely any oil visible - a sign of someone who knows how to fry stuff properly and you barely have to wait for your order which makes up for the long queues at peak hours. In saying that though, I've been there one hour before closing time and the place was still very full on a Tuesday night. The prices are also very reasonable - cheaper than most other pho places.

Worth a try.. Went here on a Thursday night. This place normally have long queues out the door on the weekends, hence visit during a weeknight to get a place right away. Recommended are the beef pho soup, and crispy chicken with rice/vermicelli, which was very tender and delicious. Not recommended are the spring rolls, which seem to be straight out of the cardboard box, and deep friend in fat. Price is average, around $10 per dish. There are cheaper options in Flemington. Food arrived quite fast. Overall, worth a try, but don't queue up.
