Review Tim's Barbeque Kitchen - Hornsby

Good to see Chinese bbq pork at Hornsby so went in and tried their $12 lunch special menu. The portion is decent for lunch special portion and comes with a can of drink. The food is ok. Service is ok. Price is ok too. However if you have the time, you would find better quality with cheaper price lunch special over at Chatswood. Otherwise that’s the closes and most decent option for you.

Not bad. Simple Chinese restaurant. Tasty food. Medium to mildly high range price. I sometimes ordered takeaway dishes no rice. Just cooked my own rice. Noisy and not the cleanest tables, but such is expected.

I have been going to Tim's for the last 30 years. The menu is fairly standard the portions have gotten much larger over the years. The food is wholesome Chinese without the bells and whistles. The simple things done right.

Noodle was too dry and undercooked. Crispy pork was okay but not great. Soup that came with the meal was extremely salty. Overall, good for price, clean environment and good service.

Is this a joke? Or has it changed hands? We went there for dinner and ordered 5 dishes for 3 people. When the first dish was served we tried to order 1 more steamed rice - waiter said they have run out and there is no more. Really? This is a Chinese restaurant , and when they've run out of rice, can't make any more rice ..??? To make matters worse - moments later a woman walked in and was ushered to a back table. She ordered whatever and guess what....steamed rice was served in a bowl. So this is preferential treatment. Keep your rice. We will never be back. And I haven't even talked about the table service. Or the food.

Their pork chop with tomato rice taste bland and horrible . Portion size is good , but don’t order pork chop with tomato rice. Their bbq meats looked good and portion looked huge. Too Waitress can’t understand much English at all. Asked for milk tea and chill sauce and she didn’t understand. Ordering was also tough with her minimal English .

The quality is poor and they are rude and crass. They've tried to rip me off when I ordered 2 BBQ items on rice. There were only thin slivers of duck and small portion of crispy pork for such a high price. When questioned, they said that's all you get for 2 BBQ items. "Next time just order one type, you get more" was the response. The kitchen also appears unhygienic. BBQ food is microwaved before serving which is very odd and suspicious. Strongly discouraged unless you are after a disappointing meal. I now drive 40 mins and more than 20km to Eastwood or Chatswood for better and cheaper food.

Was so happy to find a Chinese restaurant. Great mood to start with. Walked in it was grubby ok they are meant to be. Then the lady was rude and had no manners still pretty normal. Then came the food(noodles with mixed duck/pork on top). The duck was ultra salty the pork was as dry as a ........ you expect bloody good food when it's grubby and rude. Went to pay freakin $18.50 wasn't large wasn't nice. Went home to spewed 6 times and counting. Go to burwood the same dish is $12.50. Large servings fresh as anything. Hornsby disappoints!

Went here because some good reviews online and not many good barbeque places in Hornsby. Hot and source soup was dreadful, very bland and not enough filling like tofu, mushroom etc. Roasted duck skin wasn't crunchy at all and not much meat for the price.

I'm giving this rating not only because the food is good, authentic and cheap, but also the fact they don't have any surcharges even on Easter Sunday.

We ordered Congee, Entree roast duck and pork chop noodles. Not the best roast duck i've ever had, but I like the fact that it is not overly fatty and still flavourful. They come with a side of veggies. Portions are huge and price is cheap.

The takeaway pig ears is really delicious too, not an item you find everywhere.

Service is also good.

Good Home cook style food.

Place:
You can easily find this place, after you exit the platform and heading toward Westfield shopping centre.

Service:
Surprisingly is good and friendly.

Food & Drink:

Came for late lunch, the lady who serve me, I’m assuming the owner is very friendly, and wait passionately while I decided what have to order for my lunch.
I choose 2 meat with rice, crispy skin roast pork and soy sauce chicken.
Came in small platter with steam bok-choy, which is good enough for me.
Roast pork is tasty and crackling was beautifully done.
The chicken, dark soy sauce marinated evidence, that you can see on the skin looks very appealing.
Good old steam rice is perfect to accompany those 2 tasty meat.

It was good good, tasty and value for money.
Next time I’ll try the roast duck for sure!

Sir And Mlady Dine Out
It was a dark and stormy night - always wanted to start a piece with these words and finally they are available and true! It really was bad weather and we were at Hornsby looking for some dinner. We knew about Tim’s and it was close so it seemed an easy choice. Unsurprisingly, due to the weather it wasn’t busy either.

Just come to buy some takaway Roast Pork. Very dissappointed. The service was bad, staff was rude. Maybe i am too young so they think they dont need to sale good piece of Roast Pork for me. They have cut the roast pork without fat, very dry one, with bone. The skin was not crispy, seem like an off cut piece. Never come back, maybe i will drive a bit further to Eastwood to get the better service and food.

My wife and I regularly eat at Tims. Its not silver service but we're not after that. The food is delicious and just what we are after. The service is quick but not in your face. Asian food with spice and plenty of flavour and that's what we get each time. Generous helpings and very good value for money. Favourites are the Laksa, Soft Shell Crab and Tofu. We love it.

Good food, but horrible service. Rude and impatient. Especially if you go in a bit late when its closer to closing time
Live locally and gave them a few chances coz of the food....but just couldn't stand their service
Even getting takeaway bbq pork/duck was a bad experience....treat you like you're retarded when you ask some questions of how they charge

VERY DISSAPOINTED. We used to go to Tims every week from 1996 to 2012 either for a sit down meal or take away as we loved their food, 3 years ago we moved out of Hornsby so have not been for a while.

We were recently back in Hornsby so decided to go to Tims again all I can say is that I am so disappointed the food is still good but the serves is awful, they were so rude to us and treated us like naughty children and yelled at us all because they bought the wrong food and I did not want it.. I will not be going back there and would not recommend them to anyone I know.

PLEASE DON'T go. You'll thank me later. Went with family Thursday lunch. We ordered fried rice and noodle. The fried rice was bland, messy and all over the place. The noodle soup was cold at the centre. Asked the waiter to replace it and they microwaved it.....i could literally hear the microwave beaping. Terrible chef and service. Save your money and go somewhere else.

I have no idea how this resturaunt get 80% likes.

... Recently renovated, the interior of the BBQ shop was relatively clean and modern, and the service was prompt and friendly.

We last ventured to Hornsby over two years ago, and stopped at the same place. It looked different - the owner tells us he renovated last April, and the warm wood and orange interior is indeed an improvement. He's been going here since 1996 and knows how to please his customers.

Rude rude rude. Very rude people, as you can see from others comments. Go some place else

On what planet do people eat food with that much chilli???. Three people in our house ordered chicken laksa, takeaway. Three people didn't finish their laksa. Two didn't get past the second mouthful.

Let you, dear reader, not know the anger and disappointment of being so hungry after a massive day of work and order takeaway, only to order takeaway pizza from a different outlet after swilling ice-cubes around your mouth and lips to sooth the attack of chilli.

I could see other ingredients in there, sure. But the only thing resembling taste other than the blast furnace of chilli powder was the cushy sensation offered by the chicken soaked in so much MSG it was like fairy floss disintegrating on your tongue. Every other ingredient served only as a visual queue to the substances floating in the chilli and curry broth.

Who honestly eats food that hot??? What is the point of all that chilli???

Unless you want your mouth to resemble the fire of Mordor, avoid the laksa from Tim's BBQ Kitchen.

James. Absolute terrible service, rude impatient staff that just want your money! Minimum card use is $30 which is not good enough for a restaurant. Payed the other night and the woman slapped the change on the counter and snatched my money. Would not recommend, food quality can be good at times however the service is simply appalling, they need to lift their game.
Tee.tree.hornsby
Poor service!. Very rude staff, food quality was not good neither. Won't recommend it!

Another good value meal. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for those wanting no nonsense Chinese cuisine.

As others have said, basic and unpretentious setting. The place serves the best bbq pork, duck and chicken this side of the bridge, but I would agree that the other dishes can be hit or miss. I normally pick up a duck and some pork and take home to serve as an authentic Hong Kong style meal (I lived there for close to 18 years). If you want delicious Chinese bbq, this is the place to grab it.

Plain Awful. Bought a Living Social voucher to try this place out and had the worse dining experience in recent memory.

Firstly they had VERY limited spots for vouchers and this is given that I called 3 weeks prior to expiry of the voucher, I was given probably 3 - 4 time slots over the 3 week period. I haven't experienced this in many of my other group deals.

Secondly, they charged me extra $7.50 for my 2 babies (aged 3 & 1) who weren't going to eat their food, the charge is supposedly for taken up space. They told me it was supposed to be $7.50 each but doing me a favour by charging me half...what da? I didn't argue and paid it anyway.

Thirdly, we arrived about half an hour late from a 12pm booking due to bad traffic and difficulty finding parking during Christmas (my fault) and was told when we arrived that I had a time limit of 1 hour to finish my meal, this was not specified in the terms and conditions of the deal. I was quite angry so they asked me to come back later at 2pm when it is not so busy if I wanted to use my voucher so I practically had no choice but to wander Hornsby Westfield until 2pm.

During the whole process, the waitress was very rude and disrespectful, not sure what her problem was. The restaurant is fairly small with only a handful of tables, we had to leave our pram outside the store on the street, it was that cramped and not family friendly at all.

We finally managed to order some food and the size of the serving was tiny, not sure if this is their normal serving or just for voucher holders but we had $90 to spend and I would have thought that it should be enough for the 4 of us but we were not full at the end of the meal - note we are not particularly big eaters, given the awful experience we had, I was not going to order anymore than what the voucher gave me.

In terms of the food itself, the peking duck (worth $43 for 2 courses) was tiny, the roast pork was not even crunchy, the noodle and rice dishes were also very small. To be fair, the taste for some of the food was good but given the small servings, it is definitely not value for money.

Therefore, I certainly won't be going anywhere near this place again and I wouldn't recommend anyone to go here for chinese BBQ, there are much better places in Eastwood and Chatswood with decent food, servings and service.

Rude and Unhelpful. Have been trying to book in for dinner to use a voucher deal, but they keep refusing to let me book, saying they are full, when I know they have spare tables.
I understand they need to limit the number of vouchers each night, but perhaps they should not have sold too many. Besides, they could have been more helpful and not so rude about it.
We have only eaten here once before and it was average... so we were going to give it another go - but now we will never eat there again.
Seems like the opposite of what you would hope to achieve by having a voucher deal advertisement....

The food is pretty average if you campare to other Chinese restaurant around north shore with similar price.

Punctual and friendly service by waiter, he also recommended tasty dishes. Affordable meals and hard to stop eating them!

Beautiful jellyfish entree. Waiter recommended cuttlefish on top n the vinegar condiment relly perfected it. Beef brisket noodle was yummy too. $25 for 2 people lunch

Bad customer service. Ridiculously Over priced and I am Chinese, food like this shouldn't be expensive at all.

The best I've ever tasted in OZ. I'm from Melbourne. I couldn't find any place better than Tim's BBQ meats in Melb. Everytime when I visit Sydney, I must go to one of their shops to buy some BBQ meats back. My highest record was carrying 8 boxes of BBQ takeway on plane.

I wish they will open a branch in Melb one day.

$8 congee with complimentary Chinese donut, you can't go wrong! Fast service, friendly and helpful. Small and cozy- 30 covers, but often three quarters full during lunch. Park at Westfield and it's a short stroll. On street parking can be hard to get at lunch but dinner should be ok. Can recomend the preserved egg and pork congee, the salt & pepper squid, the Hokkien fried rice and the usual BBQ meat selection. Highly reccomended!
LoveMyFood
The best chinese BBQ meat in Sydney. This is a small unpretentious place, but their BBQ meats, particularly their duck and roast pork is to die for. Also try their salt and pepper squid and handmade pork noodles.
Great food at a great price.
