Review Brewhaha - Hornsby

Sid Rev
Brewhaha has been one of the busiest cafe on the old Hornsby side of the railway. They have expanded and has become pretty big. Outdoor seating allows for people with furry companions to come and enjoy their food. The food was average cafe breakfast and coffee was ok, but the service could use some improvement.

I ordered an "open" lamb burger delivered by Uber expecting a half decent burger. What I got was an absolute shocker!! Even looking at it was repulsive. This diner seems go against the basic definition of burger and insead served a partially cooked lamb patty which was near tasteless on one bread slice none below the meat. This seem to go against the basic definition of burger "meat or other food made into a round, fairly flat shape, fried and usually eaten between two halves of a bread roll" (Cambridge dictionary) On calling the restaurant hoping for a refund, the person who took the phone gave it to the manager who was so arrogant not even willing to listen to my complaints. I guessed they was no use arguing so am venting my frustrations here after loosing my money and mood to let other people know never to use this diner. I have added a pic to show how awful my order looked when it arrived.

Contrary to negative reviews I couldn't have been happier with our recent Sunday family get together. I booked the back room for 11 people. It was quiet for a busy cafe and could hear each other talking unlike some noisy venues. The coffee was great and our meals were served promptly by a friendly and efficient waitress. We will be back.

Pumpkin and cashew Soup was beautiful . I can't understand why you get half a broken biscuit with your coffee. A whole one would have been lovely. Forgot our coffee orders but overall a nice cafe. I would return.

loved the brekkie Rissotto, a neat twist pulled off well. thanks for the experience!

Great place to catch a brekky on a rainy day. Great choice for kids (homemade banana bread with butter, honey and ricotta cheese, fish and chips). Our kids thoroughly enjoyed it before their swimming as its just opposite aquatic centre, Hornsby. We opted for scrambled eggs with sourdough and expresso and thoroughly enjoyed it (even my picky hubby😜), their homemade tomato sauce was yum😋.. overall an amazing experience😊!

I have no idea how this place continues to get business when they treat customers with complete disdain. Was commanded to move over so people could order, despite the fact I myself was standing there, so I could order. When I ordered one simple coffee I was huffily told 5-10 minutes, only when I advised them that I wouldn't bother did they decide it would in fact be just 5. When another customer arrived, without greeting, they haughtily stated "one minute" and then proceeded to roll their eyes as though the customer was a ridiculous inconvenience. Needless to say I won't ever be inconveniencing them with my money again.

Let's start with the 'BIG' breakfast which is obviously for SMALL people. Not sure I've ever had a big breakfast after which I have been hungry. Overcooked poached eggs, mushrooms out of a tin, a slice of toast just a shade over the size of a postage stamp, a sausage that makes Bunnings sangers look gourmet and a hash brown that whilst it could have come out of a frozen packet could have been fryed in stale oil that smelt. Tried to wash it down with a Soy Chai. Tepid brown water that had the faint smell of Chai is what I got. Crowning glory to the meal was the sullen old man behind the counter. I'm sure this place has seen better days to have the rating that it does. Definitely not worth the money. Macca's (and I really don't like Macca's) across the road might be a better option.

We couldn't sit where we wanted. Window seat belongs to the owner who rushes around like he's in a hurry to get packed up. Why not just close early instead of making customers feel unwanted.

Food and service were ok, met the owner and it went downhill from there! He was rude, arrogant and totally void of any humour and goodwill...Oh well, there are plenty of cafes in the area next time :-)

Brekkie. Really good coffee, perfect eggs benedict.. fantastic service. This place hooked me immediately... if visiting Horsby - have a visit.

OMG can't believe how well we are looked after when we go to Brewhaha. What a pleasure - service, food coffee all great with a wonderful atmosphere. Cheers!

Excellent big breakfast, best I've found in Sydney. And they have actual freshly squeezed orange juice. I come here as often as I can. Highly recommended.

Always hard to get a table on the weekends, so can't be all that bad can it? Good coffee, simple food (after all this is Hornsby and not the eastern suburbs) always consistent.

The food is always fresh, consistent and delicious. They provide there own versions of very popular dishes. I always get their smoked salmon. The service is always friendly and the standard of food is really high.

This is my first review ever. This place is terrible. 4 people standing around while we wait to give our orders, then have to wait almost 35 minutes for chicken salad and French toast. I could have walked to woollies and bought the 50grams of chicken and 6 spinach leaves then cooked it myself in the time it took for our lunch to come. Please read the negative reviews on this place. They are a true indication of this cafe.

Awesome food. Only place in Hornsby to get great food. Choice of ride questionable, but is BMW friendly. Will accept Lycra clad cyclists and I'd gender friendly. Added photo of my favourite morning pastime, nice breakfast and great coffee.
Tony
Food fresh and generous. Service always good. Understated relaxed atmosphere. Dog friendly. Children friendly from what I have seen as long as accompanied by responsible adults. Small 's' stylish and unpretentious.

My wife and I are regulars at the Brew Ha Ha. When I say regulars, I mean 100s of visits over about 5 years.

Here's why we keep coming back:

#1 The food is awesome. The owner, Stu, is a chef, and you can tell in conversation with him how passionate he is about food. He's always trying new ideas and diving into the reasons why a particular dish works just perfectly. The breakfasts, lunch dishes and dinner menu (when open for dinner in summer) are all tasty and well balanced. TIP: ask Stu what's not even on the menu - you'd be surprised! (e.g. ask about the "breakfast risotto").

#2 This is a community hub as much as anything else. Stu employs and trains young people. We've watched them come and go over the years as they work through university and graduate. Then there's the regular customers, for whom the Brew Ha Ha is a regular haven. The regulars get to know each other - we know Martin who splits his time between here and Japan, and a lovely local couple who lend us books when they see us. One time my wife complemented a customer on her dress, and she offered to give it to her - dropping it off later in the week. The Brew inspired 2 of my wife's songs (she's a singer/songwriter) - google "A Duck Named Sybil" or "So Your Dream Went Boom" by Rachel Collis - the second song is about the chicken shop opposite the Brew which exploded 2 years ago. It's at the Brew that you hear the news, with the local police and other characters coming in for a coffee and a chat.

#3 Service is great, prices are very fair.
I suppose when stuff-ups happen they are likely to generate a review. We've been to the Brew countless times and found the service to be warm, accurate, and rapid on almost every single occasion. Stu makes sure the cafe isn't over-fulled too quickly so they are only very rarely out of control. 99% of the time - and as I say we have a sample size of well over 200 visits - everything goes very smoothly.

Obviously we are very loyal customers and enthusiastically reviewing our favourite cafe.

Stu is a funny character to be sure. Ask him about his motorbikes or about the latest science discovery - he loves to talk about newly discovered planets or gravity waves! He thinks of himself as a Basil Fawlty character, but has a heart of gold and is not made of boring old cardboard. Stu is just one of the many reasons why this place is interesting. If you want boring go to McDonalds!

Well that's about it from us. It's taken me years to get around to reviewing but here it is!

This cafe deserves more recognition. The service was super friendly and the food was great! I had the Thai beef salad which was cooked fresh and had an amazing dressing. My friend had the hot smoked barramundi with a perfect poached egg and crunchy sourdough. We both enjoyed our meals very much! They also have this homemade fresh iced tea using an apple juice base which is SUPER YUMMY! I would definitely recommend coming here to try that. Overall, it was a bit pricey but you can use the entertainment book voucher on this and I'd say it is worth the visit. Can't comment on the coffee though as we didn't order any. Great and cute cafe! Would come back again :)

We like this place. Coffee has a strong taste not milky. And the almond orange cake is really good. I give 9 out of 10

Terrible coffee and rude staff.. Terrible coffee (I mean it was really, really bad) and rude staff. Waited over 50 minutes to get a coffee. Waited outside and no one came to the table so went inside and was told someone it was only table service and would come out. I waited another 15 minutes before walking back inside to find the same guy accepting coffee orders at the register. After I had ordered I had to in and check where out coffee was and saw the owner re-writing our orders and putting them at the front of the cue (he had obviously lost them).

Although it was Mother's Day there were reserved signs over 30% of the table so they we hardly at full capacity.

I never find a cafe so bad I have to leave a review like this, but this place was by far the worst cafe I've had the misfortune of frequenting. Bloody hell.

This is a very popular cafe on the supposedly quiet side of Hornsby. They get a lot of people through their doors though so this place is certainly not empty! Brewhaha is a nice place for a decent meal and its well worth stopping if in the area.

Terrible service. Mediocre coffee, average food, rude staff. That's basically the summary. I used to come here a fair bit but have stopped after an unsavoury experience. My dog was chained nearby causing no trouble to anyone, she barked a single time and the owner promptly came out and told me to leave. The bill was slapped on the table and he stood there watching me leave. This encounter was uncomfortable enough that I never returned.

Great coffee and fantastic service. Great food, and awesome coffee. The staff is quite friendly and helpful. The coffee taste fantastic. This might be my go to place for coffee in Hornsby.

Love this place. Great food for brunch (Try the french toast with maple syrup and bacom mmm or toast with mushrooms). Good coffee and tea also. Great little gem of a cafe :)

Pinnacle of Rudeness. I would sum it up as the pinnacle of rudeness, couldn’t believe how abrupt and rude everything was. Got jumped at by the service staff to let me know my dog couldn’t come inside, and the reaction level was as if I'd already walked in with him when I had in fact barely stopped for 2 seconds at the corner of the premises to give my girlfriend money to go in and order. I’m no idiot, dogs can’t go in shops.

Assuming it was just this one staff member we continued with the order just to find out that the coffee maker was rude as well. The feel of all the staff just made waiting uncomfortable, especially for the 15 minutes it took to get a single takeaway cappuccino. Even politely thanking the waitress that handed me the take away coffee resulted in a null response.

The coffee itself was not the best in Hornsby (quite watery and had a slight burnt hint about it) and wouldn’t be worth the above issues again. Had the coffee been amazing I would deal with the comfort level of 0 in your café.

My advice, if you’re too busy to provide happy and helpful customer service, don’t work in the industry. How people feel in and around your shop is the main reason that consumers choose the independent stores over the big corporate chains.

I eat here often and have never had a bad meal. Good coffee and good service along with a well-priced menu offering interesting food.

What a joke... Stopped in here for breakfast on a saturday... And i dont even know where to begign with the problems... the service was appalling, unatentive staff had to go to the counter to place my order.. then when my order finnaly arived( eggs beendict with asparagus) it was cold and the hollindaise sauce had a strange orange tnge to it, the asparagus also was a strange green color, and the muffin was barley toasted. once again due to the appaling service i had to chase up the problems with my breakfast to the kitchen my self where i was met by two indian men who could barley speak engish, and they both looked quite dirty aswell! when i finnaly went to pay i was confronted by a short blonde lady with a massive attitude who was extremelly rude and un sympathetice.. In summary this place is a joke and i wouldnt feed my dog the food i was given there.. i will not be returning!

Not great. I normally visit cafes closer to the city & was disappointed here

The service was average, the food was very expensive when considered against my usual experience & well below par for quality. Was over charged for some reason & when I asked for my receipt to check how they calculated my bill, it was met with a blank stare & a calculator. I assume this method works for BAS but it looks very odd - we did eventually agree on the amount!

Great coffee and good food. This is probably the best cafe in Hornsby.

Poor service. Had to chase up raisin toast order by walking into the kitchen and asking for it. Lack of atmosphere. Made to wait to pay while bill was being finalised by hand with a calculator for gods sake! How about using the til?

Insanely delicious soup. Popped in for a light lunch the other day and had possibly the best soup I've ever had - a delicious morrocan lamb and couscous soup. Can't wait to go back and try some more dishes....

Great coffee but noisy ...
