Thea's food is the absolute best Greek. I have been coming here for years and have never had any complaints! My favourite is the banquet options - would definitely recommend.
I only wish I could set my own score on this app. I would give this place a 3.8 and it was great but just looses a bit because it’s a little bit pricey. The saganaki was very taste but cut thin which isn’t bad by itself but becomes a problem when your paying $12.50 for it.
I can’t complain about the flavour or service all were great. Value for money is just compromised.
Yep! great! They're back! Really enjoy this place. Homemade is the best word to describe the food. As us wogs would say.. food made with love, just tastes so much better. Don't have one bad thing to say about this place. They really do make food with love... you can actually taste it, that and salt... gota love salt lol

My parent are regulars here, we always go here for any birthday or really any celebration. Never had a bad experience. My personal favourite thing is the Turkish coffee. Sooo strong but so yummy.
This place is small but amazing!! The owner/chef comes around and has a conversation with everyone making sure they are enjoying there meals which is quite nice! The food is amazing, we always get the banquette and always leave feeling ultra full! Foods amazing, prices are reasonable. Love it ❤️

Amazing customer service! The host or the owner not sure which one she was, was more than happy to find cheaper alternatives for the big group of people I went with! Was very heart warming to have someone go out of their way to ensure we didn't spend more than necessary!

Food was great as usual. Portions as always generous - Mixed Grill for Two can easily feed four.
We tried some items from their new dessert range. Disappointed. Vanilla slice had no flavour and the chocolate brownie was rock hard with raw cocoa on top. Not pleasant.

Appears the owner was a bit stressed out and pushing the waiting staff- and may want to let the staff carry on with their job instead of talking loudly about what she thinks they are not doing. They appeared extremely professional and pleasant at all times.

What a treasure in Hurstbridge! Delicious food, super friendly service, great atmosphere. Will be returning! Well worth the drive! The bread and dip platter was a great start to the meal but the mains are massive so it was unnecessary but still delicious!

What a fantastic night, beautiful food. The service was quick and consistent. The atmosphere was perfect. There is enough space between all the tables to ensure that you feel like you are having a more personalised dinner with family and friends. You can tell that the owner takes a lot of pride in her business. Will definitely be back.
Always hot and delicious food and attentive service. Best choice is a banquet with a little bit of everything and make sure the delicious saganaki is included.

Vegetarian Friendly!!!. I went to Rhodes for a friends birthday and was expecting to be feeling a little left out being a vegetarian. However the friendly staff altered the banquet for me with ease. The highlight was definately my spinach and cheese pie with a beautiful greek salad that even the meat eaters on my table were jealous of.
Food and service fantastic. Had the Eva's banquet! The bread was to die for! Can't fault any of it. The meat was juicy and flavoursome. The owner is a lovely lady should be very proud. Will be back and I will bring my friends!

Very reasonably priced, and the mixed grill for 2 was enough meat for 3 us to have as souvlaki rolls the next day. We had bread and tzaziki, a greek salad, and the mixed grill platter for 2.. For 3 adults there was plenty of food
We have only had take away so far, but can't wait to get the chance to dine at the restaurant .

My new local fav!. I joined urban spoon just so i could give these guys a review. I was one of many happy customers who chose to bring in the new year with a very resonably priced banquet from Rhodes Greek Tavern(only $50). To start the staff were lovely, knowledgable of the menu and catered to our needs without hesitation (we had a vegetarian and a Coeliac at our table who were looked after with great care). Every course was cooked to perfection, such a breath of fresh air to taste Greek cuisine prepared with so much care, this is not the usual oily slop you can expect from most Greek restaurants, this is Greek cuisine at it's finest.

Great food, fantastic value and very pleasant service. We visited Rhodes for the first time on New Year's Eve during a mini-break away in Panton Hill. We chose it based on the excellent reviews and were not disappointed. Thea's friendly personality and helpfulness was evident from the time that I made the booking over the telephone, in particular with accommodating my wife who is a pescaterian. She even called back a couple of days later just to ensure that she understood the dietary requirements correctly, so that the banquet menu could be tailored for us accordingly. The meal itself was lovely and we also really enjoyed the relaxed ambience of the restaurant. I've been to many Greek restaurants before, and the bread and dips at the start of the meal was as good as any other. The saganaki, Greek sausage, calamari, fish, lamb, chicken, Greek salad and desserts (including baklava and galaktoboureki) that followed were all good quality and generous serving sizes. At $50 per person, we thought this was really good value, especially on New Year's Eve when plenty of other places charge a premium. Though we don't live nearby, this is a place that we will definitely go out of our way to return to. Thanks for a great night.

Perfect way to bring in the new year. Went to Rhodes on new years eve and couldn't believe the banquet we got for only $50 (everywhere else was $90 minimum). We had amazing dips and breads, saganaki and loukaniko, beautifully cooked flounder and calamari (either grilled or fried on demand) and a mixed meat giros/skewer combo with a greek salad, AND a dessert platter. They say how you spend your new years eve is how you spend the following year, well i'll spend this year full and happy, Thank you Thea for checking on us after every course to make sure everything was as perfect as it was.

Not disappointed. Came here for dinner on Saturday night. Ordered the deluxe banquet. Service was fast and the food was great! The food was really good quality and very tasty. Th bread served with the dips was exceptional, the calamari was beautifully cooked and seasoned and the meat platter was huge! We we already full by this stage, but still squeezed in dessert and almost had to be rolled out of the door at the end of the meal.

Quite simply the best Greek restaurant there is.. We celebrated my son's 13th birthday the other night and decided to ask him where he wanted to go for a family dinner on the night. His almost instant response was Rhodes!. He absolutely loves this restaurant, as do the rest of the family, and most of our friends who visit Rhodes regularly.
It is quite simply the best Greek restaurant there is anywhere in Melbourne. It has a very warm, welcoming atmosphere, and the owner, Thea, is an absolutely beautiful soul; you could not meet a friendlier more welcoming person.
And the food? It is simply divine. From the dips, to the saganaki and sliced sausages, to the chef's special meatballs in home made sauce (OMG!!), to the absolutely delicious fish.
There is simply nothing on the menu that can be faulted, having tried most of it :-)
Do yourself a favor, take the trip out to Hurstbridge, visit the local shops, then settle down for dinner at Rhodes and experience the most delicious Greek food, awesome hospitality and the best service you will experience in any restaurant anywhere.
The price? WHO CARES!

Very glad we decided to try a new greek restaurant, we drove from Watsonia to give it a go and were not disappointed. We had the Rhodes banquet and for two people there was more than enough to eat.. Food was fresh and delicious and the service was efficient. Definately make a booking as it isn't a huge restaurant and fills easily. We will be back again soon!

Lately It's been hard to find places that tick all the boxes, but this beautiful Greek restaurant is a pleaser and a half! 100 per cent satisfied and will recommend it to friends and family! We turned up without a booking, although they were fully booked, they were happy to accommodate my husband & I, the staff very quickly put a table together for us and made us feel very welcome. Rhodes is an amazing little restaurant. Dips are to die for and there friend calamarie is delicious. Banquets were cheap but plentiful and full of flavour. Staff are so friendly
Went into Rhodes Greek tavern on Saturday night, it was amazing !! The waitresses were so friendly and the chef came to greet us and made us feel at home with her home cooked meals. We had the Rhodes banquet and what value for money, we had to Unbutton our pants by the end and then deserts came too, no matter how full I could not stop eating! Ill be booking for next weekend and bringing in more friends and family to try my new favorite restaurant, I highly recommend Rhodes to those who have not tried !

We had a fantastic meal last night at Rhodes. The food was delicious, home made and high quality. We had the deluxe banquet which was great value for money as well as being the best Greek food we have eaten in a long time. Such a lovely surprise to find this awesome standard of food in a suburban restaurant. The staff were great and the owner came out to chat as well which was lovely. Would highly recommend this place! Tonight was my first time dining at Rhodes, my daughter raves about this beautiful greek restaurant in the most lovely town! & i must say she is 100% right about rhodes being the best greek around! The staff were amazing! & the one thing ive never seen in any other restaurant was the cook she came out & spent time at our table was just lovely! Ive already told 3 friends how amazing it was & we will most defenitly be returning :)
Rhodes Greek Tavern has friendly staff however the price for food can be a bit overwhelming. $300 for 5 people was a bit much. Especially when you can't physically eat it all.
Good Food, Good People, Good Time !. Went into Rhodes a few nights ago, had the deluxe banquet and it was the best value for food and money i do not regret spending !! the restaurant was full of happy customers and even though there was heaps of happy faces the food still came out in a short amount of time, and it was exquisite ! When every table had their food the chef made the effort to come out and say hello to her customers, she was so friendly and i was told that she does that often. The waitresses were just as nice, and made us feel right at home, they came over a few times, and made conversation, they came at the perfect time when we needed drinks, it was amazing ! i've never been to a restaurant when the chef came out when nothing was wrong ! i had a fun time and i ate plenty and enjoyed every bite. I'll be back soon with more friends and family!!

Amazing father's day meal. Thea and her staff went above and beyond tonight with their service! My family and I love going to Greek restaurants - and Rhodes is by far one of the best Greek restaurants we've been to in a long time! The food was absolutely delicious, starters were fantastic, the meat was succulent, overall a truly fantastic meal, so glad we brought our dad here for father's day. The staff were very attentive and even Thea made the effort to step out of the kitchen several times to see if we were enjoying our meal! Thoroughly enjoyed my night - I can't wait to book a table with my friends!
Nothing but tasty food on our plates. To our surprise, the cook/owner made it her business to welcome us to her restaurant. I was shocked! Cooks only come out when something's wrong!!! She explained that all her meals are home made and only the best and you know what, she was right! Not oily or covered with onion or garlic. Just really tasty food. We opted for a banquet option and we were stuffed! For approx $40 we had dips, sausage, saganaki, seafood platter, meat platter, dessert and tea/coffee. Seriously excellent value for $$. Do yourself a favour and check out this little gem!

A night in Greece. We have been regular diners at Rhodes Greek tavern since it opened. I have never posted a review because I WANT IT TO REMAIN A SECRET SO WE CAN CONTINUE TO GET A BOOKING . What can I say honestly the food is home cooked and prepared with love. I have never tasted such beautiful fresh Greek food in any other restaurant. Thea is a sensational hostess as are the other staff, they all go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure their diners are happy.
Thea personally visits every table during the evening checking to make sure people are happy. We love the friendly homely atmosphere and can't wait to go with friends tomorrow night for their 2nd birthday celebrations. As I said previously I feel like one of the family and enjoy the journey my mind goes on every time I go to Rhodes.

Excellent!. Forget Hellenic, Jims and Stalactites, if you're anywhere near Hurstbridge get to Rhodes Greek Tavern.
Many of the better known Greek restaurants in Melbourne simply live on their names with variable quality food, inconsistent and quite often bad service. I've been to all of the "name" restaurants and I didn't enjoy them nearly as much as Rhodes.
A group of 8 family and friends ventured out to Hurstbridge for a birthday dinner and the night was great! A smaller more personal restaurant Rhodes offers fresh, well prepared and tasty food and great service.
We started with Rhodes excellent dips (I especially enjoyed the char grilled eggplant), lovely saganaki and dolmathes and perfectly cooked tender calamari. We then moved on to superb char grilled chicken and lamb and great giros accompanied by more calamari and Greek salads.
As well as offering the standard (very reasonably priced) banquet options they also have platter or meal selections. Something for everyone!
The only thing I regret about the evening is that everyone was too full after their meals to indulge in sweets! Sitting here after the event I'm thinking I should have ordered some Galaktoboureko and Baklava to take away! Ah well, at least I know it won't be long before I'm back at Rhodes!
I'd actually gone away from Greek food and tended to more often head for Sydney road and the more reasonably priced Turkish restaurants. Especially after being stung an excessive amount of money for a lacklustre meal with second rate service at Hellenic Republic. Rhodes Greek Tavern's put me back on to Greek food and I can't wait to get back there!
Beautiful. Thea opened the restaurant up for us today for our work function and we had a beautiful banquet where I didn't think the food was going to end. All of it was excellent, the dips, bread, saganaki, dolmades, sausage, prawns, calamari, flounder, lamb, chicken, plus the dessert. Oh and to top it off the coffee was beautiful and the drinks exceptionally cold. Highly recommend you try this. We will definitely be coming back here.
Fab fare. Celebrated a surprise bithday with family and friends at Rhodes on Sunday and we were all so impressed with the spread. The food was tasty, fresh and plentiful - Thea is a wonderful host, ensuring all were happy and well fed. Service with a smile. We will be back time and time again!

Great Restaurant - highly recommended. We went as a group of 9 to a family birthday here last weekend. Excellent food, drinks and service. Thea (the owner) went above and beyond to ensure we were happy.
We had the dips, then Calamari and then the Rockling, which were cooked to perfection. Others in the group had the Lamb,. which was also reported to be excellent. This is a restaurant that really cares about customer service and satisfaction.
We have been 3 times to rhodes and everytime we have had really fresh, tasty food. The calamari just melts in your mouth it is so tender. we are always greated with a smile. Worth the drive or train out to hurstbridge, you will not be disappointed. :)
