Review Rokko Japanese Bbq - Hurstville

One of my favourite local BBQ restaurants. Fresh quality meat, seafood and vegetables. I highly recommend the buffet as for the price it's fantastic value and has a great variety of options. The staff here are friendly and attentive.

I came to the restaurant recently and this is my first visit. We booked the day before so it didn't take long for our table to be ready. However we booked for 5 people and the seats were quite small and only 1 BBQ stove for 5 people... The meat quality was good. We ordered the premium all-you-can-eat so it was good for the premium meats, especially wagyu meats. The fried dishes were good as well. Their pork belly was also good 😊 Their all-you-can-eat menu have some soft drink which is nice but they don't include icecream. The pickle option was very limited option. Their service was fast, staffs were friendly but sashimi took forever to arrive. We ordered sashimi since we came, it arrived when we almost finished everything and we had to order twice for the sashimi to came out. Their order paper was super difficult to order, you use pencil to write on a black paper and staff can miss your order easily 🙄. However, I don't think that was a problem with the paper, it took so long for sashimi to come out and the cut was terrible. I could taste it not really fresh. Please look at the cut in the picture to see. I think it would be the best if you come here with family and book the table before hand.

Webpage hasn't change the prices changes. All you can eat buffet from $55 to $79 disappointed. But the foods was nice and the wagyu meat was incredibly nice. There are lots more places which was better. One visitc is enough.

We had the buffet $55 and had a good time. Trick is not to overload on the sides. The service was fast and very friendly. The wagyu rib fingers were really good quality. -1 point as for the chicken katsu one piece of the chicken was still pink (see last pic)

I was first hesitant about this place as it always seemed smokey every time I walked past. When I finally had the courage to try it I realized this place is lit. For an AYCE, $56 w/soft drinks is not bad. Lots of variety, soups and deep fried stuff on the side. Do recommend it. Staff are nice! Licensed.

Rundown - their wagyu meat is good quality meat but definitely not wagyu in any way. The seafood is nice and fresh and the vegetables are good too. The service and table waiting is pretty subpar, you even need to ask for table water - they don't offer it. It's a shame because i've been here a couple of times over the past 3 years and the quality gets worse and the price goes up :( each time. Oh also you really need to book on weekends as there is very limited seating in this tiny restaurant.

Didn't have the BBQ but the shabu shabu was great. Clear but flavourful broth, good quality meat. Sashimi was so so.

One of my all-time favourite Japanese restaurants! My partner and I loved it! However, the rates increased from $55 to $79. We finished our food and waited another 10-15 minutes for another order, the service was slow unlike before. However the food is amazing as always.

This is by far one of the best Japanese BBQ restaurant I’ve been to in Sydney, the bbq meat and food are just so good, friendly service, can’t wait for next time.
Chris Chun
Made a reservation, top of the list yet we were asked to wait half an hour for a table. When asked how come? Staff replied with "how about a shared table?". The shared table was cramped and definitely did not fit 4 people. Not to mention, the group before us did not make a booking and yet managed to grab a big table. So what's the point of making a reservation?

👍 place for BBQ, such a nice service, the food is tasty and reasonable price, comfortable facilities, I feel good 😊 that I have found this restaurant, very convenient for me after eating walk home and sleep 😴

Awesome food and awesome stuff members I recommend coming again :)

Nice restaurant and very tasty food if you like Japanese, however small size meals so you better order extra if you hungry and price is on higher end.

Good quality meat and good service,so glad I found this nice restaurant ,at least we don't need to go to Strathfield to look for nice bbq restaurants, not to mention that we had bad dining experience in the bulgogi strathfield bbq restaurant!

Restaurant staff don’t care for social distancing at all, we went at 5.40pm there was a good 15 tables empty and forced us to sit in between 2 other groups of 2 where I could easily extend my arm out and touch the person next to me. I complained and asked to be moved but they said ALL the other tables are booked and will be full including the huge area at the back with a good 10 tables. By the time we finished our meal the other 15 tables were still empty except for 2 so realistically they just don’t want us to sit at a slightly bigger space incase a bigger walk in group comes. They also never had any intention of opening the back area as it would mean more cleaning for them. All of this is understandable but not acceptable during covid. Local business and all and want to support them but they clearly don’t care about the health and well-being of their customers nor do they respect Government guidelines. I pointed that out to them and the waitress just shrugged, she could not care less.

Upon paying the bill we were hit with a $2 surcharge for card payments, including EFTPOS. I told her this is not right and wanted to speak to the manager, she said we have no manager and again she could not care less. Then handed me a $20 voucher for next time, I said there won’t be a next time.

Doesn’t matter if the food was good or not, bad service, disregard for social distancing and the sheer greed on the card payments is a huge turn off.

Not really Japanese style... Closer to Korean but without the wide kimchi selection. No real Japanese dipping sauces such as ponzu, gomedare, misodare, etc. For the bbq - disappointing because the suppled salt/pepper sesame oil (Korean style and lacking salt/pepper), and sugary soy didn't meet the mark...the meat itself was nice... Can't recommend - there are much better Korean bbq in Campsie through Strathfield...

We ordered the beef shabu shabu..and took them 40min to bring up some boiled water, sliced beef , vegetables and super hard cooked rice. The services were super slow.. waiter staff all barely spoke english and food too expensive for what they are. I was impressed by the high review scores but i think maybe this only applies to the bbq meats not much else..

The wagyu cuts were a melt in mouth experience and definitely worth the hefty price tag! The other dishes we ordered like takoyaki and tempura prawn were also good but the standout was clearly the meat. However, the ice cream was a bit of a let down because they source it from elsewhere and it was so frozen, it was almost like eating ice.

Quite expensive for this suburb but you definitely get the quality you pay for. It's good that they have lunch options now too, with the same great quality. There's a large variety to choose from and everything is fresh.

Japanese BBQ that offers premium cuts of meat. Ordered three types of wagyu beef and they were all really tender.

For those complaining that there's no 'all you can eat' offer, I actually prefer this type of bbq. You pay for what you order and you get what you pay for. If it was 'all you can eat', the quality of the beef will definitely be of a lower grade. I enjoyed the bbq here and highly recommend it to those who enjoy eating quality meats.

Ps. Their icecreams and sorbet are really good too. Love the mandarin yuzu and miso caramel peanut flavours. In terms of quality Rokko beats all the 'all you can eat' bbqs I've ever had 😍

I am a bit bias here. I love Yakiniku and always go for the most valued and good meat and usually go for buffet.

This restaurant doesn't have buffet. I knew it before coming here for lunch so that's fine. We ordered egg soup, pork karubi, flap meat, inside skirt, soft shell crap salad and 2 bowl of rice. Total Price $73, which I thought is reasonable. But then, if I go buffet elsewhere, I will pay $80 all you can eat for 2 hours.

First, the meat we ordered are non premium grade, in other word, we ordered the lowest grade. The taste is just okay, nothing to brag about. Then I can't help to compare with other Yakiniku restaurant, which also offer non premium Wagyu but somehow offer better taste.

Don't get me wrong, the food is not bad. It just that, given a choice, I will probably won't be coming any sooner as there are better offers elsewhere. But if you're stuck at Hurstville, there ain't many Yakiniku choice to choose from.

I’ve been here with my family once before when it first opened. The food was super slow, the staff were inattentive. And that’s the last time we visited, we will not be back.

Great Japanese restaurant in Hurstville area, had wagyu beef teishoku 定食 lunch set, includes rice and miso soup. Under $20, value for money with large portions of food
MizTea_SydneyFoodCritiX
This is probably the least likeable place I've been too, our order was wrong 2 times! Nothing frustrating when the order is wrong and you're super hungry... I won't be coming back

Had wagyu beef and pork belly for BBQ at Rokko. Meat was good, especially wagyu beef but it's expensive for such a small portion. I really like the giant cushioned chairs there, even though they're not ideal in busy hours. The grilled fish tasted delicious, as expected from a Japanese restaurant. However, the payment method is a let down. If you pay by card for any value under $50, you ought to pay $2 surcharge.

Come here regularly. I love their miso pork karubi. Lately the quality of the meat is a bit inconsistent. The portion was generous. Decent price. Staffs speak minimum English, too much misscommunication.
Trinidad
Food was good, price was decent. We booked a table and got a call 15 mins before our reservation and told us we had to finish eating after 1 hour because there would be other customers which was disappointing. Other than that, the food was good
Ada Chen
Low quality food, very bad service. They even tried to surcharge us $70 more for their fault of not understanding what we ordered. And fortunately we found it in the bill, and they even didn't apologize for it!

I love the food from this restaurant which we ordered for dinner. The Stone Pot Bibimbab with Miso Soup was perfect. I like the sauce and when it was mixed, it was delicious though it was a little bit spicy. As the Bibimbap is served in hot stone pot, it adds the spiciness of the sauce flavour. The Chicken Namban was delicious too with generous amount of the japanese tartar sauce. I especially love the setting of this restaurant, which makes it perfect for fine dining.

Good flavour but tiny serving size. A $15 plate of pork consisted of 6 pieces of finger sized strips. Expected to pay at least $70 for bbq for two people
The Violet
It's located between the bus terminal and Ritz Hotel.

It's kinda pricey, comparing to other BBQ place with same quality of food. Taste is good, but I won't say it's memorable.

Would rather pay more in some of the true Japanese BBQ restaurants at Crows Nest.

I do not regularly contribute to ratings regarding restaurants, however on this occasion I have relented. The food, atmosphere and whole dining experience was 1st class. We had a party of 5, all of whom enjoyed every aspect of the evening, We will be back.

Don't waste your time coming here, service is terrible
Came at 6:30 , lady said you can eat now for half an hour or come back in 30 minutes. So naturally we put our name and number down. We said we would come back, call us when it is ready. We didnt want to wait inside the cramped resturant . So we came back at 6:50 thinking because we saw people walk in and out. At this point, thr lady forgot us and i noticed she seated people before and she still ends up giving the next two tables away. At this point, it was 7:30 and i vented my frustration. Lady was sorry but decides rather than seating people who have waited for one hour she gives the tables away to people who came in after us. Shocking service and walked out

Great BBQ in Hv. Reasonable price and great location. But not so many choices at the menu. I come here a few times just for the delicious pork

Rokko'd my socks off!! The short rib was succulent and so fresh, we drowned with the delightful baby octopus and the saké kept us brimming the whole evening, service isn't amazing but knowing a word or two of Japanese really goes a long way, great spot.
Sayonara rok x

Lunch at Rokko was the best, good value lunch set with variety different meats to choose from, quality fresh meat, friendly service, definitely come back!

Not much can be said here, the food, price and service were all decent. Quite lovely for a nice Japanese restaurant in Hurstville. Would definitely recommend to go if you're looking for affordable yet good Japanese/bbq food.

Worst service ever! They laughed when people came in and walked out of the restaurant not satisfied with what they were getting. Horrible service. Such a shame because the interior and food is actually decent.
Olivia Yang
Bibimbap had great flavour, not too spicy and the plates of beef were fresh, good portions and were reasonably priced. Nice interior and a pleasant experience.

Nice interior, pretty decent Japanese BBQ restaurant in hurstville. The meat and bibimbap is delicious and the price is very cheap/affordable. Definitely recommend this place.

Meat tastes very fresh and seasoning just right amount, taste better than lots of other Korean BBQ, nice service and vibe, affordable price, highly recommended for BBQ lover

Loved the Beef tatami! The bibimbap was delicious! It has egg yolk, bean sprout, Chinese mushroom and beef strips. The right amount of spicy too. The meat here was super fresh and marinated really well.
Ilovefooood
That rare beef bimbimbam! The dish was so good we ended up ordering another one because everyone was fighting over it. It had lots of sauce so super tasty and all the ingredients were fresh. The meats were also great quality and very thinly cut. As a result it was super tasty. I really liked the rib slices (can't remember their exact name but it came in a round plate).

Side dishes were also very yummy. The corn had lots of butter.. mmmm

The service on the other hand was a little shocking. Prices were on the higher side for hurstville as portions were small. We ended up paying $37 pp. Overall a great place in the area. I am glad to see nicer food options in Hurstville.

It feels like every day at the moment there is a new restaurant popping up on Forrest Road in Hurstville. The latest, Rokko Japanese BBQ, only opened it’s doors a couple of weeks ago and has been drawing some big crowds. Having recently come back from a trip to Japan, I’m always keen to fill the void for amazing Japanese food, so of course I had to try it.

Great place for a night of Japanese BBQ has both cooked items as well as uncooked. The restaurant is nicely set out and the chairs are so comfy!! We ordered a mix of cooked food and raw to cook on our table, all the meat and vegetables that we had were very good quality. I recommend the duck breast, cheese sausage and the beef short rib. Can't wait to go back!!
