Review Japanise Kitchen Kazuki - Hurstville

Casey Cheang
What has happened to this place?! Has it changed owners? Extremely disappointing meal tonight. We have been coming here for 11 years and the quality has completely changed. The spicy salmon had an 8mm cube of salmon in it and a dash of chilli sauce on top?! And the salmon cream cheese ship had a slither of cheese on top and the salmon was wrapped only halfway around?!

Convenient location located right across of Hurstville station. Came during lunch time on a week day and didn’t have to wait for a table. Food was average but it wasn’t horrible. The sushi rice did not taste even. Some sushi rice had strong vinegar taste while some had not taste. You could tell it wasn’t mixed properly. The nori used for sushi could be improved. No taste to it and feels cheap. The frying fish roe gunkan was just horrible. Nori wasn’t even connecting the sushi properly. Sashimi was alright. You get what you paid for. Ramen was decent. Pork broth has a nice flavour that doesn’t taste overly salty. Great noodle texture I’d say it was probably the better dish out of everything we ordered Overall a 3 star as this restaurant provides a lot of variety. Ramen was best but sushi wasn’t worth it.

The store is now a lot smaller than what it was since lockdown and the sushi train has also closed. Regardless, there is still a variety of sushi and seafood options on the menu. They serve nice comfort sushi. Not the best quality but delicious for its price range.

Great dining experience there, the waitress are patience and multilingual. Good service and delicious food, the price is affordable and the is indoor and outdoor tables to choose.

They have good range of food choices, I like the vegetables miso ramen, the portion is so big, good to fit me and my daughter. They use to have sushi train but now gone, but you still can order sushi from the menu.

Really good ramen. A lot of options to choose from. There is a large portion option that hits the spot for someone like me that likes to eat a lot. They are licensed, so beer and sake are available. I haven't tried the sushi yet, I'll be back.

Ordered takeaway tonight. Food turned up very cold and found a large hair in my rice. Dumplings and Chicken Katsu were okay but definitely had better so will not be ordering from here again.
Jenny Nguyen
Delicious ramen and sushi but the food came out so long. Waited over 35 mins for food to arrive.

Good food good service. No waiting like some other Japanese restaurants. New favourite

Ordered a sashimi set and aburi set from here on Uber Eats. The order came very quickly considering it was lunchtime. Very fresh and tasty, but a bit expensive.

Food nice and the price is cheap, the shop is small and the staffs is nice ,the shop is located at forest road hurstville, next time we will come again .
Christine
Ordered the bento box and was Slightly overpriced (~$16). The raw fish for the sushi wasn’t fresh, however the seasoning for the fried vegetables was perfect and was delicious.

I don't understand the low ratings! Foods nice and cheap, only place I can get a good satisfying oyakodon! However it's definitely not authenticate Japanese food... The cooks are speaking Chinese

Very standard, didn't enjoy my meal here and have not been back. It's a shame as this restaurant has been open for a very long time. Meal was not memorable at all. Located towards the end of Forest Rd.

So-so customer service. So-so food. What kept me with the ramen was the soy-sauce egg.
Small restaurant with not-so-cheap food comparing with the portion of the dish

got ubereats from here and it fulfilled my friday night cravings :) i got the teriyaki chicken soba noodles with fish cakes. cant complain, tasted alright for a classic takeaway dish.

ordered salmon don take away many times. The quality was unstable but this time is just uneatable. what's the benefits for them to lose a regular customer?

Tried their lunch special set A and was very disappointed. The portion of teriyaki chicken was tiny - about 6 small strips, about the size of half a finger! It did not match the picture on the menu.
The food tasted ok but don’t be fooled by the lunch special!

Overall an alright place, we ordered a crab bento box and a chicken cutlet box as well as spicy salmon sushi rolls. The salmon sashimi, tofu and tempura was really good in the boxes. I have to say the chicken cutlet was quiet nice although the crab in the bento box was just okay, you could tell it was not fresh at all. The spicy salmon roll tasted very fishy and was not grilled salmon but tinned salmon.

Their sushi is surprisingly good, it’s hard to believe that they can make this quality in very much “friendly” price. Their karrage, tempura and sushi are recommended

This place is awesome! We had the salmon don and chicken Katsu bento with a side of edamame! Speedy service and really good quality Japanese food for a reasonable price in the area ☺️

Soon as I walked in I could feel the friendliness of this cosy little spot. I love the fact that it's so open and you can watch the chefs prepare your meal. The Gyoza were so juicy and had a tasty filling that just ooozed with goodness. Chicken cutlet udon was lovely and the cutlet was so soft, it just fell apart and soaked up all that soup so it had a very strong flavour to it. Noodles are thick and glorious, and super meaty. I really enjoyed my meal at this spot, great value for money and very tasty.

In one of those hungry and lazy-to-cook nights, I gave myself the excuse for getting on Menulog to look for food. That was my first every experience with Kazuki. The food was good despite being in takeaway containers (less visually appealing I guess!).

Second time round, I dragged myself to the actual place so I could finally give a fair verdict. I love the vibes of each and every staff members inside the store, so warm and welcoming.

Ordered a bento box, which came with a generous serving of rice and miso soup. I also picked the beef soba (buckwheat noodles) with a mini set of sushi. Food quality is alright. Would love to see this place flourish with better chefs and also better hygiene. The place has the fishy smell of some cheap restaurants.. except the price is not so cheap here

I've been going to this place for about a decade now haha. What keeps bringing me back is the delightful service and the cheap prices for some decent hearty japanese food that I know has been made with care. I'm a big fan of their sushi rolls here that are made fresh to order, and takoyaki which has a generous serving. Their bento boxes also include a nice variety of sides and the friendly owner is just a plus plus. Though it's not going to be the best japanese food you've ever had, for the cheap prices, you'll definitely have a satisfying meal, suitable for the student budget :P

The food here is not that good, service isn't too bad though. The food here, blatantly does not taste like Japanese food. Value wise it is really good with big servings. If you are looking for good Japanese food, i'd suggest looking else where. But if you want a good feed and fill your belly, this place isn't too bad.

Kazuki, a quaint little japanese restaurant located a bit further away from the bustling central bustling area of Hurstville is a great place to have affordable, well made Japanese food. Rather conveniently as well, they are apart of menulog delivery in which we most recently got and either way, was not disappointing. Having ordered the teriyaki beef ($14.5) and chicken ($14) bento boxes with the addition assortment of tempura ($9) it was all in all an incredibly filling and satisfying meal. In particular, we enjoyed the great taste of the teriyaki sauce and found that the great variety of sides in the bentos (including tempura, edamame, miso soup, salmon, seaweed salad, agedashi tofu, sushi) allowed for a complete meal and showed a great range of Japanese cuisine!

Food is really good here and you can see how excited the chefs are to serve you.

Pros: food, value, service

Letdowns: there isn't much air circulation in the restaurant so it's quite gummy and stuffy

Idk why the ratings are so high. My boyfriend and I ordered two bento box takeaways from delivery hero and it is kinda disappointed (compared with its ratings). It is mandatory to buy extra rice or miso soup even though we chose Bento boxes. So we two ended up with two bowls of rice and two miso soups. There were just a few slices of teriyaki chicken in the bento box and the salmon sashimi in the sushi set was not fresh at all. The miso soup was tasteless.

With Kagaya closed we weren't sure at first where we would get our Japanese hit in Hurstville any more. However, I remembered a while ago I did try Kazuki and so suggested that we revisit this hole in the wall Japanese restaurant for dinner. The place was pretty full on Friday night but we managed to get a table. The menu was basic and I'm not really sure the chefs are Japanese, but overall the dishes were OK.

I drive through Hurstville a fair bit and have always been curious about this place - I'm a sucker for hole-in-the-wall joints.

And come on, this is Hurstville where every second restaurant sells char siu or serves mainland Chinese cuisine. Variety is good.

Though flavours are nothing mind-blowing, this place serves up an honest, down-to-earth feed full of charm - rare AT THE PITTANCE THEY CHARGE, and not unlike many a noodle house one visits while having the midnight munchies in downtown Tokyo, complete with the friendly service we take for granted.

And yes, it's a real Japanese restaurant.

The set meals' serving sizes are huge compared to most Japanese establishments in Australia - no rock-hard teriyaki here.

Both the sashimi and sushi were fresh; the sushi had good fish-to-rice ratio though wasn't packed tight enough and fell apart when picked up.

The wasabi used was of the powdered variety - again, kudos - as it's much dearer than the green slime from many a sushi bar and shows the chef's respect for his own food. Once again, surprised to get quality at this price point.

A shame though, that while the karrage was fresh and juicy, it almost entirely missed out on seasoning. The tempura on the other hand, was great, with good batter thickness. Same goes for the agedashi tofu.

Soba was tasty as it should be, though the real test is their ramen broth, of which I will try next time.

One weird thing was the filling inside one of the ura maki, it looked like okonomiyaki but... not really.

They also serve a $6.50 teriyaki chicken rice bowl... In 2016.. Clearly these guys have done their homework and know their audience. Now that's commendable and worth an extra star.

I wrote the pants off that review.

One of the most value for money Japanese hole-in-the-wall shops I've eaten at. Lunch sets at $8.00 and $8.50 is completely worth it. I especially like that their cooking has less salt and flavouring. Will definitely be back.

The most authentic japanese in Hurstville as it is actually owned by a Japanese person. Food is a hit and miss with a lot of options. The mixed sushi plate was fantastic, however, the ramens were disappointing. Service is always friendly. However the shop is a little uncomfortable. Nevertheless it is cheap and worth it! Still the best japanese in the area

Great value, great food! One of my all time favorites without having to pay a fortune. This shop has been around for yearssssss. Great for causal dining.

Best Japanese in Hurstville. Kazuki is another one of my go-to places in my area. Everything is fresh and prepared on the spot and i like how their sushi tastes and looks "homemade" as opposed to sushi train or franchise sushi (The rolls are also bigger too!). The seating is very limited so don't bring a party bigger than 4 because they won't be able to fit you in. But in general, the food is great and quick and i've never had any bad food from here before. Also, if you're getting takeaway, get the flower platter for $35 - it feeds 4 people (if you're super hungry) and has so much variety!

Home is where the heart is...n that's Kazuki. My husband n I absolutely love this place!!! We had our last meal here before we jet setted to Phuket n Bora bora for 1 month honeymoon last month n was the first place we wanted to visit once we got back! Dining here every friday or if not at leat once a week, we satisfy our craving for delish japanese! The head chef derives form Japan n is very strict about what he deems satisfactory for his customers! If quick, delicious, fresh food is what you like then definitely visit Kazuki! We're there again tonight!!! Best salmon sashimi, it's all in the cut n fresh from the sea!

Had teriyaki chicken bento which was okay. Decor, cleanliness and service was questionable. Staff aren't Japanese but the food appears to be decent.

Loveee the food but limited seatings....

Good things come in small packages!. Food - 7/10
Service - 7/10
Ambience - 5/10
Value - 7/10

I love the "open kitchen" design of this restaurant, you can see all your food being prepared. The place is very small - probably seating around 20 people at once. Not a good place for big groups. The sushi is fresh, there is decent variety and the bentos are cheap and delicious.

The service is quite friendly and it's pretty cheap. The restaurant's pretty cramped but otherwise comfortable.
