Spicy Template used to not be so great, mainly due to the fact that service could be slow and the staff pretty much only spoke Chinese, so there was a language barrier, which was a huge problem when ordering or asking questions. However, I still went here from time to time as it was an all you can eat hot pot with no time limit.
They've revamped since then, and now have more staff who speak some English, and also have changed from an ordering system to a buffet system, so you can grab your own plates of food. This is pretty rare for hot pot places, as they mainly like to do portion control with meats and the like, so this has definitely bumped up their rating, in my eyes.
There isn't too big of a variety for the buffet, but it is decent.
Would return
We are regulars here, good authentic Sichuan food and good value!
I frequented Spicy Template today and I had a fairly good experience. Parking arrangements on the outside make it easy to go in and have something to eat. The staff don't speak any English at all, that's true, but they try to give you the menu on a digital tablet and you can press on the items that you want to order, it's not as bad as it seems. The seating arrangements are good, and on the inside the restaurant it's actually quite cosy.
The food came out in a timely manner and it was well prepared, we ordered ribs and fried rice. Everything was fine, there were no major complaints, it's pretty intensely Chinese so some food will be really difficult to get used to, but at the same time there is loads of good food here that anyone can eat too.
The staff try to accommodate, however sometimes you need to pull up Google translator and show them what you're trying to say, like ice for your tea or extra soy sauce etc... The lady got annoyed when I brought her my drink, she thought I wanted another one, but in fact I just wanted ice, she finally got it and we rolled on.
The prices were alright, they honestly aren't too bad for what you're getting. You are weighing up really nice seating with quality of food here, I was very comfortable at this restaurant.
I would recommend it, but there is a language barrier, it's not too bad, most people can deal with it - or should be able to.
Good selection of authentic Chinese food with lots of tasty flavours. Usually no waiting required for seating. Personal favourites are the spicy fish fillet in chilli bath, and cauliflower with smoked pork.
Good mini hot pot with reasonable price, normal topping as other hotpot places.
Accepts cards with surcharge and add on $2 for sauce each person.
Variety of dipping sauces but limited of side dishes.
