Review Hyde Park Tavern - Hyde Park

Nicholas Butler
Interesting, older style Adelaide Hotel set in the near city suburb of Hyde Park. Great Menu options and the food did not disappoint. This Hotel includes an upstairs Function Room. We experienced painfully slow service for our main course to be served, but would be willing to try this venue again, as the upstairs function and our timing of our lunch appeared to impact on our table service, hence the 3 Star rating.

We'd had dinner elsewhere and wanted a quiet place to have a post dinner drink so that our long overdue catch up could continue and the Hyde Park Tavern was the perfect place to do that. The fire made it cozy, there was plenty of room between the tables so we could talk, the footy was on mute and there was a great drinks selection. Friendly service.

Three of us went to lunch here - and, unfortunately, it was quite underwhelming. No atmosphere, a rather sterile layout and, all the while, the sound of pokies in the background. We ordered burgers that, quite simply, didn’t pass muster - the meat was dense and dry and quite tasteless. The fish and chips saved the day. An expensive lunch.

We turned up for our reservation early and was greeted warmly by staff. Even though the kitchen didn't start serving till 530pm, the chefs were told of our arrival and got our meals underway which was pretty awesome of them. My wifes Moroccan Chicken was the pick of the three we chose, whilst our Hyde Burger and Sesame Tuna Salad (which was unfortunately every so slightly overcooked) still ticking the tasty box too. Hyde Park Tavern is definitely worth checking out.

The only place that would let us in with no booking (just wanted a quiet table for two tucked away from the crowds to have a quick lunch with my Dad and it was provided with no hesitation). Staff were very caring and on point with their service and the food was very tasty. Pictured; Braised Beef Cheeks and Morrocan Chicken👌

Food ok. Staff don't know how to open a bottle of Wines a had to go to the bar if we wanted drinks. Messed up my food order. Staff need some personality

Great food, friendly staff, beautiful decor to enjoy a meal, very quiet.

Great salt and pepper squid however disappointed that their pub food was already quite expensive and then they charged $2 extra for tomato sauce and $1 extra for aioli! Not sure why such a nice establishment needs to be so cheap.... didn’t leave us with a good taste in our mouths... probably won’t come back.

Had the steak which was cooked nice and was good.. The starters lacked a little but was not terrible.. The service was a little non existent and the food was good though..<br/>

It's always been missing that little bit extra. Soo close yet for some reason falls down a meter before the finishing line. <br/>I read all the previous reviews and it seems that it's a common theme, it's nice, food is good, atmosphere is nice... but that's it. It's limited, it's not great nor is it a standout in any respect. <br/><br/>In saying this it's not a bad spot to take the family, have a beer, watch the footy etc.

I was part of a large group who dined here midweek and was surprised with how busy it was. Considering the amount of orders our meals did came out systematically as two large tables. Generous servings presented in a modern way.

Great location and lovely inside the pub. But...... Just some strange issues when ordering drinks. First ordered scotch and coke & a CC dry..... Received a CC coke and scotch and dry..... No big deal, swapped drinks and moved on..... Next time up ordered scotch and coke... Tried it and could tell it was jack Daniels . Mentioned to bar staff and was told jack Daniels is scotch.... When I said no it's not I was told that's what they always serve as scotch... Now either I have beer ordering the wrong drink for 20 years or things have changed.... May not sound a big deal but when you don't get out much and are paying top dollar for drinks surely you can expect some accuracy

Took an interstate visitor for an evening meal earlier this week. Chose a basic meal - steaks, desert, coffee. Food was satisfactory although medium rare steaks were nearer medium. One staff member became a little peeved when I asked that my unfinished roll be left when she was clearing after our main course. <br/><br/>Main complaint is that the carpet is totally worn out.  It's worrying - if the area seen by patrons is of such poor quality, how confident can I be that the kitchen is up to scratch?

A few days ago I complained about the service I received from the then current manager (15/02/2016) and the attitude he displayed to customers, and based on that, I stated I would not go back to this venue. How things can change. On my posting on their Face Book page, the response displayed by the management, I now strongly recommend this venue as one who understands their customer needs and have corrected this outstanding issue, brought to their attention.   Admittedly, I reacted strongly in the first instance, as their food is good, staff members (other than the one I criticised) are very friendly and accommodating, and their customers also are very friendly.  I give them now a 5/5 rating and it is again my No.1 social venue.

Disappointing experience x3. Ate for lunch on Easter Saturday, ordered 2 schnitzels and a vegetarian burger, and requested crispy fries.<br/>Fries were barely cooked, not crispy at all. <br/>Was unable to finish vegetarian burger, was overpowered (underpowered) by the quantity of bread, small amount of sauce, few spinach leaves and large patty. However whilst patty was similar in taste to felafel, it was very basic, and similar to something that could be bought from coles or woolies for very cheap. Did not seem to be homemade, and had been crumbed and deep fried. Lacked taste, texture or much flavour. Working as a cook myself, i was very unimpressed by the meal, and found the price to be very steep considering.<br/>Schnitzels were average at best, gravy watery, and again chips barely cooked.<br/><br/>In comparison to nearby 'pubs' it was very sub-standard. Will not be returning.

Stay away. Bad food and average service.

Dinner experience. Mmm entree was ok but it was just corn chips with salsa refreshing. However a different experience with the main. The chicken was pre processed supposably fresh cooked chicken was unfortunately inedible. When we went to pay the lady said in future let us know immediately, well that would have been fine if there was any table service. Overall payed entire bill left not eaten, disappointing, will eat at another venue next time.

When you head down the King William Road cafe precinct, you’re really spoilt for choice when it comes to dining destinations. Of course, as someone who’s already been to most places down the street, looking for somewhere new can be a tad difficult. Today, I find myself at the Hyde Park Tavern, a place that I’ve been to before but never for a meal. For lunch, there are a dozen tapas dishes, traditional pub meals and a couple of dishes with international influences.

Very average venue. We live very in close proximity to this hotel/restaurant and immediately following its rejuvenation a few years ago it was great, with good food and a vibrant atmosphere. It slowly deteriorated over time and so we moved on to many of the other great eateries in the area, We decided to give the hotel another try this evening to see if it warranted being part of eating regime. Unfortunately the experience was just very average and a once only (too many far better alternatives). The hotel had some specials but we were not offered these until we specifically asked our waitress who enquired with the kitchen. My special salmon was ok but not really "special", my wife's and another in our party's roast beef was tough and virtually inedible. When this issue was raised with the waitress she disagreed. In summary an average meal and we will not be returning.

Going downhill unfortunately. We are locals who have been frequent customers for the last 2 1/2 years. The last 2 occasions had been "ho-hum" but decided to give it another go on a relatively busy Friday night. My better half ordered the curry trio and I ordered the duck breast. The curry arrived with Luke warm bowls of curry and a tower of rice that clearly "gluggy". The duck was even more disappointing. Although the broth and shiitake spring rolls were tasty, the "hero" (to quote the ghastly reality cooking shows) of the dish - the duck breast, was dry and over cooked. Each mouthful took an eternity to chew and when cut into was grey in appearance, not pink and juicy as duck should be. When asked how our meals were by the waitress, we politely pointed out that we were disappointed in our meals and were advised that she would let the chef know. 10 minutes later, we received our bill from the same waitress without any feedback or apology from the kitchen/chef. $117 for a shared entree, 2 mains and a bottle of wine ........ Happy to pay that for quality, but not for what was served up on 27/06/14.

I have been coming to the hyde quite alot recently. It seems alot of other pubs in the area are getting to busy and noisy to try and enjoy a night out, if you want to put something in your stomach (the t-bone) and have a drink wwith a few friends, then the hyde is perfect.

Great food and service. We love eating at The Hyde Park Tavern, the food is consistently good and the service is always excellent. The pub's bistro menu is well priced and has a great variety to choose from. I enjoyed the steak I ordered, it was cooked to perfection.

Restaurant food at the local up market pub. Good food, good wine list & great beers on tap.

Shocking !. The service....the worst in adelaide! The weitress was so rude and couldn't wait for us to finish our dinner and go. The food was awful. I order the entree prawns which were definetly defrosted and heated up, no salt, very bland. The avocado that came with it was definetly from a dip container form the super, horrendous...I mean how hard is to mash an avocado. I asked for a parmesan, rocket and pear salad; the salad came withouth the pear and when I asked for it....they didn't take my salad back and they brought me a cut up raw pear on a bowl...again....how hard can it be to toss it with a bit of dressing on the salad. Very bad experience....I'll never come back!

Never thirsty. There must be a policy that if you are sitting at the bar with a less than full glass then all the bar tenders have to offer you another one. every 5 minutes a different bar tender offers another drink. All of them are very friendly. Food was great, Drink service leaves you a bit tipsy by the end !

Great All Round. Love coming here for dinner and drinks on a Friday night. Well priced and great atmosphere, usually have a great Specials menu with a focus on Fresh Fish which is awesome!!

A delight on all fronts!. Whether in the general bar area or the dining room, the food here is exceptional. For $18 you can get a "twice cooked pork belly, seared scallops with red cabbage, daikon & apple salad with honey cider vinaigrette" which is to DIE for! <br/><br/>Crisp crackle, succulent meat, perfect scallops - it's hard to order anything else!! I have it at least once a month while my boyfriend tries the whole menu. The bits I steal from his plate are as delectable as my porky goodness, but I can't bring myself to get anything else.<br/><br/>Amazing, wonderful staff. Extensive wine list. A fabulous, wonderfully priced dining experience. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!

The cooking was well done by the chef, a little crispy on the side but hey, it’s a Friday so ill let that slide.

I sound a bit whingey and there were a few small issues, but the food was good and I would be very happy to have the Hyde Park Tavern as my local.

I’d definitely head back – the food certainly cuts it amongst Adelaide’s pub grub and the staff when I was there were a real asset to the business.
