Went there for dinner on Saturday and was really impressed! The service was fast and the staff were warm and friendly. The peanut sauce that was served was made the traditional way and not peanut butter because you can taste the spice mixture that was used in the sauce.
The Gulai Domba Aceh was a flavour bomb! It was thick, spicy and the lamb was tender. Highly recommended. The sup buntut was rich, comforting and hearty. The oxtail was fall off the bone tender.

I understand that the portions that may seem a little small for most people but these are normal portion sizes served in Asia. The possible rationale for the prices despite its portions is that you must understand that a lot of the dishes take a long time to cook and the process is quite arduous. You definitely can't get that kind of flavour by frying the spice mix for 15 minutes, chuck some meat and call it a day. The cut of meats used are also not cheap either. I suppose you can defray some of the cost by ordering the sharing meals for two.

I will still patronise this restaurant because it is very difficult to find authentic Asian restaurants in Brisbane, what more specifically Indonesian food. I would definitely recommend it and I hope you will give it a try. :-)

Came and had vegetarian dish about 5.45 on a weekday. Nice pyramid of rice and chilli fish, very well presented and tasty. Nutty sides and eggs.

Great food, friendly staff! More indo than most restaurants claiming to be Indonesian and are more Malay-Chinese.. Definitely worth going back.

Great Javanese food that Indonesian friends tell me is very authentic. Staff are always friendly, although some dishes err on the pricy side for the size.

Went here for dinner last night, the food was delicious, very authentic and tasty. We had the slow cooked beef ribs and grilled chicken and both were melt in your mouth!! The service was friendly and atmosphere is low key but inviting. Would definitely recommend!!

New to brissy, I heavily rely on reviews on Zomato/urban spoon. Read the reviews and decided to dine in..this restaurant screams authentic Indonesian. I ordered prawn springrolls for starters and had nasi goreng for main with sambal rica rica. I loved it, would def go back with my husband and try other stuff on the menu. Would also add that the portion size was quite generous and the prices were pretty reasonable.

Simply the best authentic Indonesian restaurant in Brisbane. Great atmosphere, best nasi goreng and sate. Not too pricey. Family favorite. Service typically Indonesian, slow, chaotic, but friendly.

I have not eaten in restaurant so cannot comment on table service, but I regularly order take away from Sendok Garpu and have never been disappointed. I am addicted to the Laksa Betawi - just a delicious soup that reminds me of similar dishes I have had in Indonesia. I have sampled many other items on the menu and all have been delicious and authentic. The fit out of the restaurant is nice, and does feel like you have been transported overseas.

Tried Sendok Garpu last week for dinner and the food was tasty - really enjoyed the spicy lamb and the eggs. Would visit again. Service is efficient. The traditional music being played adds to the ambiance.

Homely Indonesian. This is our first visit and Sendok Garpu, formerly Castelli’s, an Italian trattoria, has taken on an Indonesian ambience, with fabric drapes, fans, and attractive batik tablecloths, albeit under clear plastic protectors. It’s all reminiscent of the little restorans, the café-cum-restaurant eateries we have experienced before. Very nostalgic.

We choose different entrees from the attractive and extensive menu, and share satay and a selection of fritters: mini martabak telor and bakwan sayur. Not exciting, but nice starters. Shared mains were the staple gado gado, beef rendang curry and spicy eggplant. The gado gado passed the test, while the beef rending was rich and aromatic without being too fiery. The standout dish was the eggplant: halved, grilled and served in a piquant sauce. Fortunately our friend chose just “spicy” and not “very spicy” sauce for the latter!

Asian places normally don’t excel at dessert. They do everything else well, so why bother? Ours were little sago puddings which rounded off a very pleasant and very reasonably-priced evening.

A fantastic traditional authentic and most tasty Indonesian experience. What a fantastic find. A trip back to Indonesia in indooropilly. Lovely friendly relaxed service. The service team in Traditional Indonesian dress. Soothing relaxing simple indonesian inspired decor. Before you start eating you feel transported back to Indonesia. Start with the iced rose tea just to chill out, it is gorgeous.
In fact there is no other way to put it - the food is simply amazing and the most traditional and best prepared Indonesian food we have experienced in Australia. We have been 3 times in 2 weeks and consider ourselves addicted! Must mention a few of our fav's. They are all amazing, the corn fritters with mild peanut sauce, the traditional Martabak teluk and the Satay Ayam. THE BEST chargrilled satays ever! On the mains you can't go past the Rendang Sapi with Nasi Puti and try it with a Telor Balado (spicy boiled egg) on the side. The Nasi and Mie Goreng's are also outstanding. We lived for 3 years in Indonesia and are blessed we now have this amazing little hideaway in our suburb, most strongly recommended.

Sendok Garpu - Indooroopilly, Brisbane. Fresh off the success of the first restaurant - right in the middle of an industrial yard in Cooper's Plains down south - Sendok Garpu have found a second, more aesthetically pleasing location on the quieter side of the train tracks. Taking place of the old familiar Italian join, aesthetically it is certainly an improvement (note: formerly this place was a Castelli's, and that was popular with high school kids - mostly for quantity over quality). There is actual ambiance and atmosphere here. They have made the place more shaded, plus given some running water to make a sense of relaxation and added several lots of plants that make the temperature considerably cooler. It is essentially a restaurant, where the basis location was more of a hawker stall. Good efforts and a keen eye have gone into making sure this place has a well-decorated look to it. This may not be as good, however it does provide a vibrant bit of variety to the burgeoning dining scene nearby.

One day, I was meeting my friend for the odd catch-up nearby. It was around lunchtime, and before going off to see a movie, it was time for a spot of lunch; both of us were hungry. Wanting to go out of the mall for lunch, this was a new place I had known of wanting to find a new place. I remembered how much I liked the first place, which was one of the most unusual dining experiences that I can think of in the city, and with a lead in question about Indonesian cuisine (he had not tried it) - it was off to here.

My friend found the service to be a little aloof, and I can definitely say that it was a mixed bag. I have seen more incompetent and certainly seen less friendly service around. While it was quick when the food was ordered, they could have been a bit more interactive when it came to the service. Examples include maybe going up and asking a bit sooner (even though not all of us were at the table near the beginning) and after asking about the meal if there was anything else to do. They are on the right track, and with a little improvement it can be potentially very good.

The menu is much more extensive then the Cooper's Plain counterpart. A number of dishes did ring a bell from previously. There is more chance of variety, with many of the classic Indonesian dishes able to be done with different kinds of meat. Also, they have a couple of set menus for groups of four or more. During lunch time, a selection of dishes (actually very considerate in their generosity with it) is chosen for a set price. Whatever the case, the food is pretty affordable for most people.

To begin, my friend eyed off their rissoles as an entree. These were advertised as a chicken-vegetable combination ragout, wrapped in a home style crepe then crumbed. On the side was a serving of thick peanut sauce. As a starter, it was okay. There was distinguishable bits of vegetable in them, however not much chicken could be found in the filling. Though, to their credit the crepes were cooked very well with a solid coating that was crispy and very hot; they were too hot to initially pick up with the fingers at first. The peanut sauce was also good; it did not remind me of the "cheat's" version that used peanut butter

For my meal, I got an "Es Kopi" - essentially an iced coffee. Much like the variety available all around Singapore - and the signature variety from Vietnam - this was made with a basis of condensed milk. It is hard to screw this one up, and as usual it was delicious. The right adjectives: sweet, refreshing and cold. I could have easily had another one of them. It was filled to the top with ice cubes to make it even colder.

For the main part of the meal, my order was their Ayam Kalasan. This is a Javanese-style dish: half a chicken is slow-cooked til the meat can be easily torn off the bones, and is basted in a mild, sweet marinade. The chicken was served alongside the restaurant's Sambal Terasi (or a shrimp chili paste) and a salad of cucumber and lettuce. This was a simple dish, and it had a lot of flavour to it. The natural taste and aromas of the chicken were seeping out of the flesh. Mixing it with the paste given on the side - which was very spicy - created a good complex array of flavours. It is difficult to get a dish like this without any rice; you need the rice to soak up the juices and sauce. I got an order of the coconut rice, and it was great. The rice was cooked perfectly, well-fluffed and subtle in the tastes and textures of coconut. Alongside that, the chicken was tender and every little bit of meat could easily be gotten to. It was one of those times when the impressive meals are actually straightforward. With all the bold flavours coming from the paste, baste and meat the salad merely seemed like a garnish.

So, in terms of adding to the dining scene of Indooroopilly this is a welcome addition with a less usual cuisine and great presentation. It could be on its way if there was more attentive service, as close to everything else is pretty good. Quality control of the food is excellent, and they have pride in their product. This is one place I wish to see succeed and hopefully have the local schoolkids become regulars; this general place sure is different to what it was an age ago and it has improved.

Fantastic Feed. I had seen a few reviews for Sendok Garpu shortly after they first opened at Indooro but then forgot all about them. We were driving past the other day and it caught my interest as I didn't realise it had replaced the mediocre italian place that had been where SG now is. Anyway that was our decision made for where to go on Friday night.

I just wish I had been there earlier. Firstly the fitout is great - it is a peaceful, calm oasis with a great vibe. Secondly the service was very good on the evening we went - we were greeted with a smile and nothing was too much trouble for our waitress - who was simply lovely.

Then there was the food!!! With Viet and Indian our two favourite go-go cuisines, we do really like our asian food - especially if it's spicy. For entree we shared the mini martabak and the corn fritters ... both were absolutely delicious and I have to say that the peanut satay sauce was the best I've had anywhere both here and overseas. For mains we chose the Sayur Kapau (cabbage and green beans) and the crispy catfish (which is what got us there in the first place). Again both were simply divine but the catfish ... ohhhhh ... hubby became addicted to crispy catfish in Thailand a few years ago and whenever we are back there we are chasing down restaurants that serve it to feed his addiction. When I first heard about SG and looked at the menu, it was the catfish that caught my eye ... well let me just say it was amazing. We chose the sambal ijo to go with ours (green chillis and green tomatoes) and it was the perfect accompaniment.

And then there was the price - very very reasonable. So Sendok Garpu thank you so much, you will see us again and again as this will join our go-to-on-Friday-nights places as there is much, much more on the menu I need to try.

Great food and service. Food was very tasty. Very authentic indonesian. Some are from Sumatra and different in flavoured to what ou would get in Java and Bali, but everything was tasty. Service was good, didn't have to wait long for dishes, and we went home with a doggy bag of the food we couldn't finish. Will definately be back

Lovely Indonesian Food. We have been here around 5 times since it opened. You have to know what you like as some dishes are very authentic, but we lived in Indonesia for 10 years and reckon it's pretty damn good. Most of our favourites are here. Most authentic Indonesian food we have found in Brisbane anyway. More expensive than Jakarta ha ha. The nasi goreng isn't presented in the traditional way with fried egg and sate etc, which is disappointing but it has the right taste. And the thin stir fried rice noodle dish (forgot name) is great. Takes us right back to the street!

Had dinner with friends at this restaurant, great food, authentic Indonesian. The banquet was the perfect amount of food for 4 adults and good value. The Rending curry was exceptional. We will definitely return.

A nice Indonesian restaurant at Indooroopilly. For those of you searching for a culinary experience- try Sendok Garpu (Spoon and Fork) at Indooroopilly.
Located in the corner Lambert and Clarence Road it is not easy to miss. I believe this would be the second branch following the success of the first resto at Cooper's Plain. The pecel lele and its sauce was great; the chicken satay, gado-gado, risol and pastel (entree) are highly recommended. The servings were medium and the price is average ($ 13 for lunch, >$ 15+ for dinner but it was well worth it.

D Bones. My partner and I have eaten here three times now and have enjoyed it every time. Like a few other reviewers have mentioned, they could definitely improve their service. You have to be somewhat proactive in order to get served, which isn't ideal given you eat out for the convenience.....not to feel that you are an inconvenience to the restaurant. That issue aside, the food here is excellent! The chicken satay are the best I have ever tried and the red chilli spicy sambal is to die for (if you like spicy aromatic sauces). The nasi Goreng is absolutely bursting with flavour and I would definitely recommend also. For the mains I have had the slow cooked beef ribs (with the Red chilli sambal) and the roasted half chicken. Whilst the serves are a little smaller than I would like, I have enjoyed both thoroughly. My partner found the lamb curry a little bit too oily but other than that we have enjoyed everything that we have ordered. If you are interested to try Sendok Garpu, I would say go for it, the flavours are rich and very authentic.

First, nice to see some authentic South East Asian fare on this side of town. I tried the Nasi Kapau, the flavour of the rendang was complex and aromatic. The sambal was excellent and kept me salivating (Sichuan pepper?). Cendol was a bit weird because it had ice cubes instead of crushed ice. Would come back.

So many choices for their mixed rice set. We tried the curry cabbage, beef rendang, ikan goreng, chicken curry, beef curry , veg fritter and fried chicken. The food was delicious and the taste reminded us of the Nasi Padang stalls in Singapore. Go for their red sambal if you like spicy chilli! Only gripe - portions were small for the price. Could be more generous.

My partner grew up in Indonesia, and this is the most authentic restaurant we have found in Brisbane. There are generous servings and an array of choices. The flavours are familiar and beautiful.

🇮🇩 Indonesian cuisine indooropilly There isn’t many Indonesian food choice in Brisbane and I always believe this is one of the most underrated cuisine in the world. Sendok Garpu means spoon and folk, the place is all around authentic Indonesia food. The place is well decorated and great service. Although I do think the menu is a little too big, and without proper indexing next to the dish name, I do find it hard to navigate the menu. Food wise, I do think they can turn up the taste and spice a bit more, Indonesian food suppose to be full or aroma and punch.
