Review Fourthchild Cafe Restaurant & Lounge Bar - Ipswich

We were looking for something close with yummy food and value for money. This place delivered. Food was great! The variety of seating arrangements is awesome. Outside on the footpath, out back on the verandah, inside near the fireplace or in a smaller room. The place is immaculately clean and well looked after. Amenities are located at the back and also immaculate. One of our waitresses was a hoot! Prompt, polite and with a great sense of humour. I think she's Korean, she's good value! They do an all day breakfast and the desserts look incredible. We were too full to indulge tho. Not to worry tho, we're going back!

Came last weekend and service was mediocre. Long wait times, but gave this another chance because we came without a reservation last time. We reserved for Sunday jazz until 1pm. We arrived at 12:30. Ordered iced mocha, a scone with jam and cream, and Reef and Beef. The scone came quick this time hot and was good, a little dry. Then service just went south. Mocha was spilled all over the glass and couldn't drink without getting coffee all over our hands. The jazz stopped 15 minutes to 1pm. The reef and beef was disappointing. Beef was ok but lukewarm, given 2 scrawny prawns, 2 even smaller scallops, and half of the skinniest bug they could find. Not worth the $45 for that dinner. $60 in total for all of it. Never coming back 😊

Cycled the BVRT and needed to refuel in Ipswich. I ordered two large slices of delicious lasagna and a burnt caramel slice. Excellent service from Ross and the team. Would highly recommend!

Once again we had a great meal in the Ipswich Region. Fourth Child has great food and we saw some of the other menu items that other patrons ordered and was impressed with what we saw. There seems to be a few regular patrons who know the menu of by heart. I had the BLAT and my wife had the seafood chowder in a cob-loaf. Both were great. My wife asked for some butter for the rest of the loaf and it was no problem and the staff were friendly.

Great little brunch spot in the cool Brisbane Street side of Ipswich. Good coffee and brunch menu that's actually tasty. Coming from Sydney, we'd be happy to come here for the occasional brunch. Definitely proof that Ipswich is gentrifying in a good way. Friendly staff and food came out in a timely manner. Outdoor and indoor seating and groups welcome.

Great place to have breakfast/lunch, massive portion sizes and plenty of options for specific dietary requirements. That being said, a friend of mine did order the breakfast burger without bacon as they are a vegetarian and their food arrived with bacon, not a super big deal but just something to be mindful of for intolerances and allergies to double check with waitstaff. All in all a lovely place with plenty to choose from 😊

Sadly disappointed again with service and waiting times...also the owner definitely should stick with just running the business and leave the interaction with customers to his lovely staff...sorry but you don't have a very welcoming personality...firstly we didn't get the table we booked and were put out on the deck which was where we didn't want in the first place...after being seated we ordered and received out drinks in good time, however when it came to our meals it sadly was an hour and a half from the time we placed our orders to actually receiving them...within this time we were never once asked if we wanted anymore drinks or advised as to where our meals had gotten to...finally I had to track down a waitress to ask them the whereabouts of our meals and was told they were 5 minutes away...so after a further 15 minute wait they finally arrived...I gave 2 stars only for the reason that the food was good but guys the speed they are delivered is just as important...it wasn't busy either

It has been more than a year since I have ventured into the Ipswich town centre and visited Fourthchild Cafe. An early appointment saw me back there for breakfast and what a treat it was. They do the best lambs fry and bacon I have ever tasted. It's a five star winner. It's all backed by great serice and a smile.

Waitress very friendly , parking a challenge , nice seating and inside decoration , prices as expected BUT at 12:39 pm there was cottage pie on the special board and we were told there was none Not very good as husband recovering from surgery so food choices for him very limited
Alex
Nice atmosphere, just missed the mark, had high expectations because of all the awesome reviews.<br/>The menu selection is extensive, however the entree and main for lunch all seemed lacking.

Lovely cafe near some interesting shops in Ipswich. We all had a version on the eggs benedict, which was done well, but a bit pricey. Coffee was stong & a bit bitter but a small amount of sugar sorted that out. I didn't like the black walls, decor felt a little dated. Service was good, our waiter must have been new but still did a good job. I'd definitely go back & recommend, especially to try some of those delicious cakes i spied.

Coffee had a metallic after taste to it and it appeared that the bacon was either over cooked or reheated.<br/><br/>Customer service was prompt and friendly.<br/><br/>From the reviews I was excited to eat here but was bitterly disappointed. Have had a better overall experience from other ‘not so fancy’ local cafes

This is a fantastic breakfast/lunch spot with a very delicious menu. I would say that this is the best place for a daytime meal in Ipswich CBD, the atmosphere is very relaxed but sophisticated and there's a terrific selection of things to have. The portions are very satisfying - I recommend the Stockman's burger and the Big Breakfast if you're very hungry, or one of the pies! For a lighter meal the eggs benedict is always perfect, or one of the very flavorsome healthy salads if you're after something that is light but satisfying. And of course the rosti, which never disappoints. If you have a sweet tooth I can't recommend their cake selection enough - especially the key lime pie and the cherry ripe cheese cake!
Debbie
Great atmosphere at this restaurant. Loved the furnishings. The service was friendly. A great place to sit back and relax. We had the potato Rosti with bacon and poached egg with pesto hollandaise and the French toast with grilled peaches and creme brûlée. Both were delicious. It was good to try something different instead of a standard menu item. Found no faults at all with this place. Enjoyed the generous serving size

FourthChild is an inviting cafe in a beautifully restored heritage building. There are outdoor tables under umbrellas, and a large indoor area with a raw and moody feel. <br/>The menu boasts many great options. We both chose the rosti stack for our Sunday breakfast. Served with bacon, poached eggs (mine were swapped for haloumi), avocado and a pesto hollandaise sauce, the meal was large and filling. The rosti themselves were probably a little over cooked- while I loved the crunchy texture, there was no soft potato centre which would have been nice. While quite a heavy breakfast, it was well seasoned and enjoyable. I also enjoyed by chai tea latte.<br/>The service was friendly and prompt.

Top points for their amazingly humungo caramel slice which I ordered to take away with intentions to share however those intentions did not go to planned....the slice did not last long.<br/>The beautiful ladies at Fourthchild kindly even decorated my takeway gigantic slice with strawberries, fresh creamed (which was legit self-whipped cream by the way, none of this spray cream sh!te) and floral carnations. Sometimes the smallest things can make the greatest difference. <br/>Current status.....Caramel slice-coma

Having heard a lot about this place and with an hour to spare I decided to finally try FourthChild for brunch. The Mexican beans were a hearty option and more than I could manage on this cold morning. The coffee was served promptly but a little bit more bitter than my liking.

Yummmm, Yum and more Yum.. yes please!! We Loved our Eggs Benedict breakfast here, beautiful creamy rich hollandaise sauce, eggs were poached beautifully, and the spinach was divine, seasoned perfectly with the right amount of salt. FourthChild never lets you down, I highly recommend going here for any meal, exceptional quality, great customer service and food that will rock your World!!!

Always delicious food. A little on the slow sidd of service but worth it. The fresh iced teas always go down easy and super refreshing! Must try!

Saturday brunch date in Ipswich with the girls. With only one of our group local to the area, we relied on the recommendation of my work colleague and fellow foodie, MB. I'm very glad he talked me into Fourthchild - What a winner! <br/><br/>First up, I loved the decor and atmosphere. Really gorgeous moody tones with lots of wood textures and exposed brick. Plenty of natural lighting and vases of "just picked" style flowers on the tables helped to brighten and create a calming, welcoming vibe. <br/><br/>Secondly, the service was fantastic from start to finish. I noted that all of the service at Fourthchild was quick, polite, and not intrusive. It had been some time between catch ups so we took quite a while to decide on our food, but our waitress was very friendly and patient with both us and our teething 5-month-old companion. There was a mistake with my friend's coffee order, however this was minor and we appreciated our waitress' offer to make a new one. <br/><br/>I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the beans here are Campo's. After a late night and an early start, I needed a decent caffeine hit. My vanilla flat white absolutely hit the spot. Perfect strength, great sweetness from the vanilla, and perfect drinking temperature. <br/><br/>Deciding what to eat was difficult as there are so many great choices at Fourthchild, but I couldn't go past the Creme Brûlée French Toast - creme anglaise, berries, ricotta, maple syrup, berry coulis, and sugar bark. Beautifully presented, this dish was almost too pretty to eat! And it was super delicious!<br/><br/>The toast was cooked perfectly and I loved the berry coulis. I was really happy with the amount of maple syrup here, as I'm not normally a big fan. The ricotta was a lovely addition to the plate too. I found the creme anglaise to be a little bit grainy in texture, but still tasted good. The overall balance of this breakfast was perfect, with all of the elements working together to create a dish that wasn't overpoweringly sweet. <br/><br/>All in all, we had a really relaxed and enjoyable experience at Fourthchild. We're already talking about coming back for dinner very soon!

First time here for Breakfast. Great atmosphere with acoustic music. Beautifully decorated lots of raw authentuc te tures of the building. Meals were highly delicious. Fast to come out. Great tasting coffee. Would definitely recommend this place!

If there’s one restaurant which brings Ipswich’s heritage to life, it’s Fourthchild. The imposing 1879 building, which once housed the Commonwealth Bank, has been beautifully restored, including its historic rustic brick walls and pressed metal skylight (which gave the venue light in pre-electricity days). Now, huge bifolds open to the street and the magnificent wall-long painting by local artist Brett Sparke places the venue firmly in the modern era.<br/>Owned by the Williams family, Chef Christine manages a team of seven in the kitchen including their daughter Jessie, while husband Ross takes care of front of house. Having been in hospitality all their lives, the couple run a tight operation. Service is very professional and the restaurant is spotlessly clean, with fresh flowers on every table. Details count in the food as well, the kitchen sourcing all local produce from Lockyer Valley farmers, making everything in house including the two well-stocked cabinets full of delicious cakes and slices, pulled pork and mushroom pies, quiches and lasagne.<br/>Our Slow-cooked Rangeland sticky beef ribs with hand-cut chips and slaw are impressively moreish, as is their version of the Hinterland Duck Ă  l’orange, a classic rendition served with a honey and pumpkin pudding. Sure, there are sides, but the mains are generous enough to feed the hungriest diner – a delicious meal ‘of generous proportions’, as Alexander McCall Smith might say. Still, we manage to share a Rosewater brulĂ©e, which hits the sweet spot for dessert.<br/>Open 7 days for breakfast and lunch (there’s plenty of choice under $20, excellent for a business lunch), with dinner from Tuesday to Saturday, Fourthchild is also open late when other places close early. Live music, cut price cocktails and an impressive house wine entices us to stay. There’s even a function room upstairs! Funky, with the consistent quality of a family-owned business, Fourthchild really is impressive.

Had a good lunch in this busy little restaurant, which had a great atmosphere. I'm not a local but I was dining with someone who was & they said it's always good food there.

Spent the night with friends near Ipswich after attending A Day on The Green at Sirromet Winery.<br/>Mid morning we needed a good breakfast to clear the cobwebs and recover from an awesome night with the B52's & Simple Minds.<br/>They highly recommended the Fourthchild and was not upset it had a score above 3.5/5.<br/>Table service with chilled water and menus. Great breakfast menu that goes till late afternoon (not every one is an early bird).<br/>Decided to try the Avocado smash, my gf had the vege stack and her hubby had bacon & scrambled eggs on sourdough.<br/>Coffee beans are Campos, my favorite and the flat white was hot and perfect 5/5!<br/>The Avocado Smash had fried haloumi & 2 poached eggs! Maybe it was because I felt a bit fragile, but I must say it was the best Avo on toast I have had ever!!!!<br/>The vege stack looked amazing with layers of sweet potato & eggplant visible and topped off with a poached egg! No skimping on size, GF couldn't finish the meal.<br/>The only reason I didn't give this place a 5/5 our table was missing a table setting and we had to end up stealing cutlery from another table after our meals were placed in front of us! The waiter seemed rushed off his feet, but truly it wasnt that busy. Going to the toilet after eating, you walk past the kitchen and was pleasantly surprised that it was an all women kitchen. Well done ladies, the food was 5/5. It was front of house that let you down!<br/>All said, I will definitely be back to try breakfast again & the lunch menu.<br/>

Nothing like a 3:45pm brekky hahaha seeing as I didn't get much of a breakfast before work this morning I thought why not make up for it this afternoon.<br/><br/>From entry to exit this place gleemed with glamour and sophistication. A massive shout out to Jared (apologies if I butchered the spelling) our waiter who was extremely well spoken and looked after us the whole experience in an extremely professional manner, you deserve a massive pat on the back.<br/><br/>First things first, the coffee, Campos coffee and this was very well done and tasted brilliant!! Mains, the Grande brekky for me and and Pancake Suzette for the other half- absolutely beautiful!!! Presented well and tasted even better, tried to fault but simply couldn't, garlic mushrooms were beautiful, bacon cooked perfectly and not dry, Turkish break just wonderful. Very enjoyable meal.<br/>Cant beleive a place this enjoyable is in Ipswich.<br/><br/>Highly recommended.

A very, very late brekky date at a great cafe on our way to the footy.<br/><br/>Located right in the middle of Ipswich, sits this wonderful establishment. Plenty of seating both inside and outside and another dining room upstairs. Love the styling inside, in area that is very much dated, this cafe/restaurant is very trendy and modern. Brickwalls on either side, beautiful art work, modern decor - very well styled. Service was excellent, we were served by Jared who was so lovely - served us with a smile and was super efficient. Jared is definitely a keeper FourthChild!<br/><br/>Food - Pancakes Suzette for me. I love anything citrus and the more zing, the better. This hit all the marks for me - lovely fluffy pancakes, delicious citrus sauce, ice cream, whipped cream topped with candied orange rind and edible flowers. Simple and delicious. Not overly sweet and the perfect amount of acidity. <br/><br/>Drinks - Iced Latte, yummy and cool - perfect for a ridiculously hot 40+ degree day!<br/><br/>Would most definitely recommend this cafe/restaurant!

This place is seriously amazing. The food and coffee is delicious and fresh. The atmosphere is inviting and vibey. The staff are really friendly and attentive, always well presented. If anything it's too good for Ipswich. The owner is really lovely and is always there doing a great job. Thanks for feeding us and being incredible! đŸ˜â˜•ïžđŸœđŸłđŸ„“

Fourthchild is pretty spacious, nicely decorated with its darkly coloured painted interiors. Service is prompt and friendly. We had one of their beef sandwiches and we enjoyed it. The bread was toasted to perfection, with plentiful of beef slices.

I love coming here for a coffee and chocolate brownie!! Best cafe in Ipswich, IMO. Good ambiance... staff are very friendly and helpful too.

So I do not remember Ipswich being this cute when I used to work here. But Fourthchild is the epitome of casual cool dining. I've only been here for cakes but I hear their Reuben's are a must try. But I also hear they make all their cakes from scratch, on site so perhaps I do have the right idea. The ones I have had taste device and is everything they're supposed to be. Will definitely have to come back for food

Been here a few times now - my go to cafe in Ipswich for a late brunch! Love the food always fresh and delicious, amazing service every time just a little expensive but definitely worth it
Libby
Very best eggs Benedict in town and I have eaten them all! Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Not cheap but I'm happy to pay for a decent hollandaise.
Megcartwright.218
My Husband and I haunt this place. Not sure what people are complaining about price wise, you get what you pay for. It's about the same as the coffee club, except the food is incredible. Coffee the best anywhere (Campos!) If you really LOVE your food, this is absolute must!
Trevor McGakkis
I just saw the new menu go up for FourthChild, which reminded me to leave my review of the last few times I've stopped in to visit. I really enjoy FourthChild. A cool space for pretty much any meal, I highly recommend the vege stack during the day or the italian meatballs for dinner.

My partner and I have been for breakfast on several occasions here and every time it has been impeccable. Prompt service and friendly staff, the food is magnificent and the venue itself is very quaint. Would definitely recommend, it is worth spending a little extra for a pleasant and enjoyable dining experience.

Beautiful coffee, large and tasty meals, wonderful service by the wait staff. The manager did seem abrupt when we enquired about purchasing their Campos coffee beans to use at home, which has been off-putting and not sure we'll return with a range of other coffee shops around the area.
Amy
Coffee good, breakfast terrible. Eggs Benedict drowned in Fluro yellow hollandaise, ordered ham received bacon, asked waiter who agreed it was bacon, who was then told by kitchen it was their ham. Then overheard owner/manager telling one of the six police officers waiting for their coffee what my issue was and laughing about it, quite unprofessional. I'm not a foodie but it was the shape (cut), texture, thickness of bacon, so I'm calling it bacon. Regardless, no cutlery which I retrieved myself after food served, no table water just an empty glass placed on table with water forgotten. Approach the Manager - I think not after being made fun of. Go to the Rafter & Rose just around the corner an exceptional find on my four day visit.
Bunny
At first the service was rather slow since it took awhile for the beverages to come out and then the food came out at different times as well but when I my partner and I started eating, we completely forgot about the slow service. The food here is excellent! My partner had the pancakes and Spanish omelette and I had the Creme brûlée French toast. <br/>The Creme brûlée French toast was perfect! Creme brûlée was made perfectly and you could definitely taste the vanilla custard and the consistency of the custard was just how a Creme brûlée should be, accompanied with the sweet French toast, this dish has become one of my favourite breakfast dish. <br/>My partner really enjoyed his meals and his mixed berry frappe but I wish I could say the same for my beverage. My meal was great but the downfall was the ice coffee. The coffee was burnt, it did not leave a good taste at all and after attempting to mix the ice cream to try and make it better, it was still bad which is a let down since I really enjoy ice coffees but this one was not enjoyable.<br/>Overall, this place is a little high price, it is still worth it for the food however, paying $8.80 for a burnt ice coffee was definitely the downfall of this dining experience.
Nikki Benson
The building is beautiful and the decor funky but unfortunately the food is obscenely expensive and limited light food options.  I won't be back.

Good service. Very happy with the service from the 2 staff that were on. Food was ok, coffee was pretty bad but overall not a bad experience.

I've got to agree, not so good, very expensive , staff mediocre......but I love the building and that massively impressive painting. But I won't be back

So disappointed. It looked like a pretty good place for a coffee and food but it's so expensive and the service was horrible. Was there for almost an hour and I just wanted a coffee. Not going back ever.

Horrible Meal. After waiting for more than 45 minutes I was served an expensive, under-cooked and luke warm meal.<br/>I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.<br/>Save your money and go elsewhere.
Michael.mcshanag
Highly Recommend. Went for lunch with the family on a quiet Sunday after visiting the Ipswich Art Gallery.<br/><br/>Great atmosphere and A/C out of the Summer heat. Fantastic service, very attentive and fast. Highly recommended. Food was plentiful and good options for the kids. Even suggested splitting a large milkshake for the 2 kids to save us some money!<br/><br/>Will certainly go again.
Sue
Overpriced and ordinary meal. Disappointed in meal here tonight. Walked in from sign saying CAFE and sat down before looking at menu, quite shocked at prices but decided to try anyway, then further disappointed at meal as it was very bland, both ordered the pork belly. Very surprising for Ipswich, thought it would be much more reasonable with more menu choice. Service however, was good.
Fargo
Overpriced, slow, average food. So sad to see that the new owners of<br/>Fourthchild don't make any where the quality of food that the original owner had. The prices are way overpriced and the sour service from the man behind the counter (what I could only take as being the owner) was terrible, a smile wouldn't hurt to your clients! We won't be back again :(.
Golly1
4C Yummy. I find the 4th child a fine place to eat. Staff are always very friendly to me and remember me as I come up from Sydney to do business.<br/>I've never found any fault with the tucker and servings are quite generous <br/>I eat out a lot and 4th Child is the best in Ippy by a country mile
Woodyqld
Dont bother. Popped in one day for coffee and cake. The coffee was fine but the cake was dry, crumbly and the icing was warm . Terrible considering its insane pricing.
Jason C
Don't cater for special requests and don't even have squeeze orange juice. Chef needs to learn how to look at better choices to people wanting to eat healthier. My mate ate and I was left with glass of water. Not recommended
Diner From Brisbane
What a pleasant surprise. Looking across the street I thought this was a night club but then noticed the menu boards through the glass. We we're met at the door by a very pleasant girl, the decor is urban chic with a fabulous massive canvas dominating the room, lovely big tables and glass cabinets with a huge selection of fresh savory foods and deserts. The menu is interesting and well thought out, it's licensed and also does great coffee, my husband had to have 3 long blacks! Will be back.

Delightful dinner. We had dinner at Fourth Child Ipswich yesterday on a rainy Friday evening, and were delighted by the friendly, prompt (but not rushed) service and delicious food. The ambience is trendy and urban; worthy of a Melbourne venue.<br/>We ordered Turkish bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar dipping bowls, and the bread was hot and toasted, with beautiful flavours when dunked in the dips.<br/>We were surprised by a "palate cleanser" between courses of a tangy lemon sorbet served in a little cocktail glass with a mint leaf garnish. Very refreshing.<br/>My husband ordered a blue/rare steak, which came as requested (often chefs overcook), and it was tender and tasty, served with mushroom sauce and mash.<br/>My twice-cooked duck with two crispy hash potatoes, baby carrots and a beer-based sauce was divine, and cooked perfectly - tender meat and crispy skin.<br/>Our side serve of steamed vegetables with butter glaze was perfect.<br/>If we weren't on our way to the theatre, we would have stayed to have a desert and coffee, as they looked very tempting!<br/>Will definitely return, and recommend this to everyone. Ipswich is lucky to have such a place.
Dook86
First time here for lunch this afternoon. I ordered a salmon and Camembert quiche and for dessert a Mississippi choc mud cake. Both of which were fantastic and didn't have to wait long considering how busy it was. If your looking for some nice different food in Ipswich this is a top place!
Simon Keller
The worst portion size for lunch of any cafe/restaurant I've been to. $19 for a salad with chicken that would not fill up a toddler. Would recommend finding somewhere else to eat to avoid famine.
James Dmore PT
Bad service (seem understaffed, especially for a public holiday). I ordered grande breakfast, was terrible. Average coffee and overpriced. Don't waste your money here<br/><br/>Left unsatisfied and still hungry as I only ate half of it - sourdough soggy, sausages terrible quality and bacon almost slimey, corn fritter tasted bland.
Jakejaquest
Hmmmm. Ordinary breakfast , extremely overpriced at $19 dollars for eggs benny . I don't mind paying if it is good , but this is far from good and I have never paid that much for it . Wake up people .
KD
Looks can be deceiving.... Great location, style and ambiance - at a glance Fourth Child looks the biz, then you sit down to.... very slow service, disappointing food at gourmet prices, average coffee. Plenty of other places are more reasonably priced and give a better experience even though they may not look as schmancy!
Megan
Unfortunately I had a very disappointing breakfast experience here. I found the service was quite terrible, we waited about 30mins before anyone even came to take drink orders, we had to ask. We had no drinks 40mins later for the waiter to inform us he had made a mistake with our order, the drinks then came out 10 mins later, wrong. The breakfasts were also missing ingredients specified on the menu, when we asked our waiter for these we received some attitude and all began to feel uncomfortable and as though we were being the difficult ones. When we finished there was no apology and all felt they should have at least offered our drinks complimentary. I have had many breakfasts and meals out and never have I experienced such terrible service, the food was average.
CatAnd
Pretty disappointing. It's a beautiful venue with great service and coffee but the food is a let down. Arincini that was more like a frittata and cheesecakes that lacked flavour. We won't be back for lunch again.
Edsy82
Unimpressed. Disappointing lunch. Our table ordered four meals, none of which were hot. Food tasted bland and the serving sizes were too small for the inflated price. Disappointing desserts too, despite good range. Service was friendly. Had been for breakfast once before, much better than lunch. Coffee and tea was good. Such potential situated in the centre of Ipswich with nice decor. I won't be going back for food.

My first (and only) experience at FourthChild was disappointing. Not being from Ipswich I knew nothing about this cafe and decided to have Sunday breakfast here after seeing the place packed with customers (only 2 footpath tables were vacant). We took this to be a good indicator of the quality of the food which set some high expectations. The breakfast menu read well, a nice selection of sweet and savory. However, the meals were disappointing. They were poorly presented, bland and thus overpriced. If the food had been at a chefs standard the price would have not been a issue, however I could have cooked better at home. The cafe has a long way to go before the quality of the food matches the quality of the cafe's stylish fit out and decor.
Jess Conway
Very disappointed with fourthchild. It used to be where we went for a relaxing Sunday breakfast. Now it's a very unfriendly, the service was terrible and I had a mango frappe that tasted like they put un-ripened mangos in it. To top it off breakfast came out with a raw poached egg. I miss the old forthchild!
Rust12
My husband and I thought we would try out the new Fourthchild for brekky today. As customers of previous owners, we were bitterly disappointed. Food was very ordinary, and coffee cold. What was once a quirky and vibrant spot has now been transforned into a run if the mill cafe. ( fake flowers on tables). To add insult to injury we both now have very upset tummies!! Never again.
Laura Thomson
Fourth Child worth a second chance. We tried a sunday morning breakfast, sharing the banana pancakes, vegetarian dish and coffee. delighted to say that the banana pancakes were amazing. The dish boasted well balanced flavours, excellent portion size and wonderful presentation. Unfortunately, the vege platter was a bitter disappointment. lacking in a variety of textures and flavours, and with a very subpar chutney, the meal looked like a generous serving, but was not actually filling at all. <br/>the ambience, decor and service were wonderful. there's been a lot of care and attention to detail with the overall atmosphere and professionalism. the coffee was above average.
Lachlan J
My girlfriend and I were quite excited to experience a nice Sunday breakfast at the now reopened Fourth Child Cafe as we were somewhat regulars at the original, boy were we dissappointed!<br/>While the cafe still has a nice setting and decor it has lost it's character and charm by replacing the lovely old recycled timber tables and quirky mismached chairs etc, though this was the least of the worries.<br/>The menu is quite limited and rather expensive. I ordered the Grande Breakfast - bacon, eggs, sausages, spinach, turkish bread, tomatoes and grilled mushrooms - it was horrible. The bacon was not cooked properly, not even one crispy bit in sight, like it had been heated up in water. Steamed ham anyone?! The sausages while cooked properly had no flavour and a texture reminiscant of sawdust.<br/>The poached eggs were fine but placed ontop of wilted spinach on the toasted turkish bread made the bread quite soggy.<br/> <br/>Overall it was a very dissappointing visit. The coffee was OK. This imposter of the Forth Child cafe is less fourth child and more incompetent, shyster second cousin.
Amy
Terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE!!!<br/>My advice is to not waste your money or time. <br/>The menu is trying to be something that it's not. <br/>No light lunch options, very, very limited vegetarian options. <br/>I went there with a friend who was vegetarian and I was very embarrassed when she ordered the bruschetta. The topping was in a separate dish, the bread was like small bits of toast resembling 'soldier men'. <br/>The overall taste was bland and watery. <br/>Im not sure whether the taste was the worst thing or the ridiculous price paid for a below average meal. <br/>The coffee was terrible and sickly sweet. <br/>The coffee order was also taken incorrectly. <br/>I had my child with me and when I asked if they had high chairs available, I was told 'yes' then the waiter walked off and I was never told where to find them, nor was one brought to the table. <br/><br/>Service is poor and VERY unfriendly. The food is awful. <br/>Never again.
Garryh101
Dissapointed. Ordered the Grilled Snapper today for lunch $24. Snapper was dry and over cooked and I am sure it was imported from Asia as White Snapper. The potato accompanying the fish was stone cold on the inside, with the Broccolini being mainly sautéed Broccoli stems, the Holandaise sauce was bitter. Told the cashier of my disappointment, and her response was" that's a shame" and promptly charged for the full meal. Sorry won't be back.
Lucy Margarita Stephens
Really liked it! Been twice once for breakfast and lunch. Funky decor, interesting food cooked perfectly. It's up market and works. Waiter were lovely. Coffee was great! Defiantly going to be my regular
Ebrewer
Disappointed. 'House baked fruit loaf with whipped butter and house made preserves' was anything but. White bread with some raisins, no spices and nothing like I would expect from an upmarket highly rated cafe. Whipped butter was rock hard. The preserves was a sickly sweet jelly like jam out of a jar, probably cottees or similar. I dont even buy or use cheap jam at home. This is the standard id expect from a outback truck stop. This description of a basic cafe breakfast is not hard to follow through on, we were extremely disappointed. Hubbys poached eggs were well over done, hard dry yolks. New owners need to step up and fix it or there will be more fourthchild regulars that arent coming back.
Aynsley83
Underwhelmed :-( As a regul.... Underwhelmed :-(<br/>As a regular of the 'original' Fourthchild since the day it opened I am saddened at how much it has changed under new management and owners. Communication between waiters and kitchen staff needs great improvement to prevent uneccessary mistakes with meals (and a smile wouldn't kill them). The decore and styling was previously fitting of an upper class cafe/restaurant that fit well with it's upmarket food and clientele. The new 'bits and peices' that have been added can only be described as tacky and not needed I'm afraid. It's so sad to see Fourthchild is now just another average generic cafe in Ipswich just like the Coffee Club etc. The menu is underwhelming and like another reviewer commented, the portion sizes don't match prices charged. There are going to be plenty of Ipswich residents who will frequent Fourthchild for big brand coffee's, a typical big breakfast and generic soft drink fridge but I'm afraid the residents looking for a little more will be heading back to Brisbane to eat.

Bit of a let down. Great to see forth child open again, however my experience on friday was somewhat of a letdown. My coffee was ok, a bit cold, certainly more value for money than previous, however the food was not that great, and the young lady/ manager seemed a touch condescending when i let it be known. Ipswich has some fantastic eateries i.e., Fentons, The Ulster, Cactus cafe etc, that don't just tell us they are going to give great service and food, they actually do it. I don't think fourth child lives up to the hype anymore, there are far more places now to get value for money as well as a great dining experience and this just isn't one of them anymore.

Rude staff, disappointing new brekkie menu. Casual Sunday brekkie turned very unpleasant. Fourthchild has reopened under new management and apparently also a new chef. We were asked how everything was and when my husband was honest and said we were a bit disappointed, we were asked why. We thought they might take some feedback. Not received well at all. No interest in what we had to say and that was made very clear when we were promptly cut us off to ask for our money. We were stunned to silence and weren't able to say another word (some of which would have actually been good). We just paid and left, absolutely horrified by the rude behaviour. We ordered a breakfast parfait and a Potato Galette that contained smoked salmon with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce on an English muffin. Tasted nice, sauce done well... just the eggs were hard (overcooked) and they obviously ran out of English muffins so we got just one half piece of white toast. The parfait however was way too sweet, even sharing it we only ate half. The menu feels exactly like you're at the Coffee Club which was our biggest disappointment. The old Fourthchild menu had us coming back regularly because it was so unique and well executed. I really want to give 1 star, only because of how offended we were but that wouldn't be fair. On the upside, our tall, bearded waiter (sorry I didn't get his name) was lovely and apologetic about the wait time and friendly. Shame they don't have more of him on staff! And the only other thing I will say is they now have a lunch menu and this looks quite good. Its a bit different and sounds yum - shame I won't be back to try it now.

Well... where to start.... from when we walked in we were greeted by a tall friendly staff member with a beard (not sure of his name and don't want this review to reflect on him) unfortunately that is were the good experience ended. We were once huge fans of fourth child but will in no way return now. The once great little CaffĂš is no longer. It has become a typical commercialize unfriendly place. The food was well below par and the other staff we came in contact were no better. I hate to write poor reviews but I was pushed over the edge this morning by an extremely unfriendly and unapologetic manager. When we finished our meals we were asked if everything was ok when we went to pay. I tried to give some constructive criticism in a nice way which wasn't received in a very nice way. No apologies for the poor food just give me your money and goodbye. ... If you want a coffee club menu go to the coffee club. At least you know what you are going to get.... will not be returning and will be recommending friend and family to do the same.

Terrible service. Went in today. Service was terrible. I sat down waiting yo be served. Wated 10 minutes and grabbed my own menus because I thought thats what I had to do. Apparently it is tablr service they just ignored us. We ordered. Waited 20 minutes which is fine but what is on thr menu isnt what you receive. I then had to remind them they still hadn't gave us our ice tea that we ordered hald an hour ago. Waited another 5 minutes to what was meant to be icetea but just tasted like water. Food was fine, could improve. But service is terrible.

Disappointed. My wife and I had previously been to Fourth Child when it was first established in Ipswich, for lunches and dinners, but sadly there was always something missing either in quality of the meals or a lack of service in my opinion, so we stopped frequenting the establishment. <br/>So when it re-opened with the new owners I was very keen to give it another try. I arrived just after 1pm on Valentines day, I expected it to be busy but was pleasantly surprised when it was not . I ordered a meal and a coffee( the coffee arrived and was very good) however I noticed that others who had had their orders taken after me were receiving their meals. So about 30 minutes after my order had been taken my waitress arrived to tell me that they had run out of the risotto, and would I like to order something else, I did and she remarked that they never run out of those! well she came back and apologized for not having that available either. She then asked if I would like a complimentary coffee, which I dutifully accepted.<br/>I understand that choices run out all the time , however my concern is that the staff took a long time to advise me of the fact. The Chef must know how many of any particular dish is available and as an order comes in they mark it off, that way a customer may be disappointed if their favourite is not available, but not advising the customer as soon as possible, is not the way to operate.

Ran out of food. Normally I luv fourth child and was looking forward to having our staff Xmas party there. Party of 12 prebooked. However It was way off the boil on the night we were there. And don't even consider taking a child. There is no provision made at all. Service was good & waitress saved us with an impromptu dish but despite requesting child's served first up it was served well after adults had food. The entrees/mains were good but they were quite meagre which is fine if there is enough food all up. However the sides were a big let down. There were only two, one of which they'd run out of prior to us ordering (the potato sides of all things). And the fresh greens turned out to be mostly rocket despite described our understanding of asparagus & broccolini. BUT most annoying thing of all was they ran out of dessert. For a Restaurant that prides itself on "cake love" and most of us had made sure we could fit dessert in it was very disappointing. There was one left of each of two dishes, which all 12 would have liked OR a banana/carmel tart (with peanut butter) which was a big let down. It was a real shame because 4th child normally does so much better!

Too Little Too Long. We arrived at the restaurant and waited for at least 15 minutes before a menu was handed to us,but only after we made eye contact with a staff member to give them a hint. The restaurant was not full, and there was a staff member wiping up cutlery and another milling around who probably could have given us menus. There were four other tables around us seating about 12, 6, 4 and 2 people and the three of us. Our orders were taken quite quickly and were all advised the they were 'great choices' by the person taking our order. <br/>What was really frustrating was that it was over an hour before we received our meals. I ordered the ravioli but when it arrived I thought I must have ordered an entrée size - there were five pieces, lukewarm at best. When we paid the bill it was $25.00. The risotto ($17) was not to the taste of one of the others with me, but that was not the fault of the restaurant, and the chicken ($24) was ok. <br/>I was really looking forward to eating at the restaurant. I believe that if we want this type of food and atmosphere in Ipswich that we need to support these businesses, but I was so disappointed. Like everyone else we just want a decent meal at a decent price and served in a reasonable amount of time. Sorry, I would not be able to recommend this restaurant for an evening meal. I am disappointed that I am disappointed - I was really hoping for something great and it did not deliver.

Loved the salad I had, so healthy. Loved the friendly staff, loved the atmosphere. Would definitely return!

Beautiful cafe/restaurant in a lovingly renovated heritage interior, top food and cakes, cool arty touches. Nice coffee, nice staff. One of my faves. Been to brunch and lunch, will be trying dinner soon.

Woeful. One word - woeful. All I can say.

Disappointed all three times. I was really excited when FC opened...finally what looked like a fantastic place to eat. First time I had the carrot cake and coffee, the cake was great the coffee was in such a little cup, 4 mouthfuls and it's gone, and all three times it's been a little more than warm. 2nd time went with my husband, he isn't a fancy eater and just asked for a couple of eggs on toast but the waiter gave us the news that they never veer off the menu, even tho there was eggs on toast with mushrooms and spinach. They need to realise that not everyone is taken in by exotically named menu choices, and there's not that much choice, 6 or 7 and that's it and it's hard to choose, not because you're spoilt for choice and every thing sounds wonderful, it's choosing the best of an unattractive menu, you just keep reading it over and over trying to find something that appeals. The Eggs Benny are over rated and ridiculously expensive. But I guess the things that disappoints me is that you go out wanting to relax with a cup of coffee and there's only one size, baby size, I want a decent mug of coffee. It's $3.90ish which is a total over charge. My friend suggested that perhaps you can only have a small cup because they want you in and out. FourthChild needs to rethink being flexible, offering some main stream food choices and getting in some decent sized mugs....and not put the price up. Last week I went for the last time, the service seemed snobby and selective and staff attitude is off handed.

How sad No entires availb.... How sad<br/><br/>No entires availbe for Saturday dinner menu. Potatoes undercooked and the staff didn't give a toss. Dessert was good but not good enough. Won't be back.

Don't even bother. Why do people rave about this place, I ordered an Eggs Benny $18, r u kidding me, I'd expect the bacon at least to be warm and not cold. I also ordered a Latte, it would have to have been the worse coffee I've ever tasted. What a waste of time travelling out to Ipswich for that experience, don't bother people.

Diana. A warm cosy feel when we wandered into Fourthchild recently. Loved the exposed brick,& woodwork, flowers, art & even the pumpkins scattered atop the benches! The place was buzzing & we had to wait a while but when we did get the coffee it was just great, smooth, rich & strong. Also indulged in some of their sweet delights which went a treat with the coffee. What a great addition to the Ipswich coffee scene<br/>April 2017- Updated review for the coffee only. Visited with friends the other day ordered the coffee strong & hot as usual. My coffee came out good as ordered my friends cappuccino was smothered in chocolate, so much it tasted of chocolate she informed me! My other friend had to send his back was like milk & cold. He received a replacement which was exactly the same so he left it on the table!

Great Quirky Cafe!. A girlfriend and I recently dined at Fourth Child and found it quite atmospheric and a lovely Cafe and liked the surrounds and the funky and quirky little ornaments. We were served very quickly and orders taken and provided with water which was topped up regularly. Both of us had pots of tea and the White Chocolate & Macadamia Cookie which was very large and absolutely melt in your mouth. I think this is a great addition to Ipswich and much more friendly and pleasant than the big franchise coffee places in Ipswich.

All rounder. Great food, great service, great coffee.<br/>The atmosphere is awesome and the waiters are so lovely. There's a real sense of family from the moment you walk in. Yes, the menu is maybe a little pricey, but it's totally worth it. It truly is an oasis in Ipswich.

Great decor & surroundings, very average menu & service poor.

Visited fourth child on Sunday with some friends and hadn't been since it had been taken over by new management. I was disappointed. I ordered the smoked salmon omelette - which was tasty but came without toast which surprised me. The portion sizes of all of our meals did not justify the prices charged. The waiter made a mistake with the coffees that we ordered, and made no attempt to rectify this. While no individual incident was to blame, on the whole I was disappointed.<br/><br/><br/>-----29 May, 2013-----<br/><br/>Just what we need. So glad that we have something like this in Ipswich - it is exactly what we need! Even though the menu is a little pricey - it is hard to sustain in Ipswich's small economy. Thank you for bringing such a wonderful brunch/lunch destination!

Yep they got it.. After several different dining experiences i feel able to review honestly. This establishment offers great food, good but a bit slow service, average coffee AWESOME cakes! Sadly however the prices( not night time) are that of a big city and a little pretentious for Ipswich! Altogether a great experience with room for improvement! :D

Fourthchild is first. We've been enjoying Fourthchild for quite some time now. Usually for dinner but more recently for breakfast. This place continues to pack them in for breakfast / brunch and while we don't particularly like crowds or having to wait for food Fourthchild have pacing of service down to a fine art. We never seem to wait long for service and can always find a place tucked away that we can enjoy a quiet meal. Dinner is our preferred time to enjoy Fourthchild. It pays to make a reservation and being BYO is a great way to make the night out less expensive. Food is always interesting and fresh. The staff are happy to assist with particular dietary needs. We'll continue to enjoy Fourthchild and highly recommend it as a "must stop" in Ipswich.

Any place that dictates to me that they will only serve one size of coffee already loses points in my eyes. This was made worse by no follow up on drinks once we finished our first round of coffees leaving us all a little dissatisfied. It was a shame because the coffee is excellent. Portions between each of our dishes were inconsistent, despite equal pricing and ingredients. The range of dishes was limited and the Kransky had sold out, leaving about 6 other options. We travelled all the way from Brisbane and were sadly disappointed. We won't be back.

We had an organised morning tea from Fourthchild (brownies/cakes) etc and value for money was not great. There was no icing on the carrot cake and it looked like the last few scrap pieces chopped up and dumped in a box for us.  The food tasted okay but I don't think this place is good for a charity fundraising morning tea.....Apparently they have lovely breakfasts if you are dining in though.

We have been going to Fourthchild since they opened and were half the size. We love the staff and the atmosphere and the food is delicious. My favourite breakfast item is the frenchie and I just keep going back for more! Also have noticed the new oven behind the counter and saw the chefs baking their own bread. Love it!! When can we buy some???
Bean Round
No middle child syndrome. It is worth the venture out to this place (there is also an aswesome little hand made crafts place next door). The cakes are always fresh and beautiful and ofetn adventurous - they understand the value put into good, homest baking. I just wish they would offer large size coffees to wash them down with so I don't have to order two!

Becoming Mundane. Fourth Child has been a favourite since opening. However, since the expansion it is not the same. Because it was so good initially we have kept going back, however, after the last visit I don't think we will be. The menu was not up to scratch, and the food was tasteless and not presented as it should be. <br/>I find this a shame as at the start it was great - I am wondering if there has been a change of chefs? If so please replace them!!!!!
Mona
Not sure why this is "the place to be" in Ipswich. Nothing special at all.

Everytime I visit forthchild (5-6 times now) I have been very impressed. The food is fresh, vibrant and tastes amazing every time. The use of good produce is evident and interesting ideas are thrown at you by the chefs and at great effect. These guys don't just impress, they amaze. Ipswich can only move forward with places like this, and at fourthchild it's in leaps and bounds.
Stu
Average. Eggs Benny are okay, but the "homemade muffin" was a bit stodgy. The venue would fit much more nicely into Melbourne or Sydney - a little too pretentious for Ipswich. The staff are friendly and helpful.
Thumbs Down To Fourth Child
Not Happy Jan. My friend and I were unfortunately tempted by the spiel on the internet praising the Ipswich Cafe (nowhere near being a restaurant) Fourth Child, so last week, we decided to go there for lunch. Total and abject disappointment. The main lunch meal was only entree size and we were left so hungry we ordered dessert. Both desserts were dry and tasteless. We requested ice cream as an addition, only to be told (with a look of total distaste from the waiter that 'we certainly don't serve ice cream here), we serve cream. Nor do they serve very much else. What there is on offer is decidedly on the 'reduced size' side of things. Maybe one would have more luck with the breakfast menu however,<br/>I will not be going back there, nor will my friend. We will try the other eating places that have been badmouthed by the owner and her staff.

I have been going to Fourthchild regularly since it opened - very concerned that it is VERY inconsistent. The servings are getting much smaller and the prices are going up. The lunch menu is priced for lunch but the serves are more like 'a bit on the side' rather than a main meal. <br/>Also very light on the good ingredients and heavier on the filler (cheaper) ingredients.<br/>Service can be slow - we sat with dirty dishes in front of us for 40 mins - c'mon - do better!!
Tania W
I love the style and atmosphere at Forth Child and my friends and I have been a few times. Lovely food, I was there last week with a friend, whilst we were chatting away, we must of been interrupted over 5 times. Waitress asked if we had finished our cakes which clearly we hadn't, she then took my coffee cup that had a mouthful left in it. I'm still going to be a patron, but if we continue to be interrupted while we are catching up then I'd rather go else where... I felt rushed and that's rude!
Alecia Scott
When we arrived they were packed... The service was a bit slow (which is to be expected when they are so busy) but thankfully the food was delicious! Not too badly priced either, and the staff were very friendly. They did make a mistake with our order but were quick to fix it up. <br/><br/>I wish they opened more hours (like a couple of jights during the week, or a bit later on saturdays), but we will definitely be back!

FRIDAY LUNCH. Partner wanted to try Ipswich for lunch. Googled restaurants and chose Fourthchild........based on Courier Mail review. Utter disappointment. My partner & mum-in-law wanted to leave after receiving the lunchtime menu that only had 5 minimalist options. I convinced them to stay. What was delivered scored a poor 3 out of 10. Decor was good; service average but what were they thinking with that menu ? Will not be going back and will advise friends also
Brendan
Love it love the food the waiters and the atmosphere, all the waiters remember us and chat to us every time we go there which is at least once a week now

Love it. I've been won over by this cafe. I've been there three times now and I can honestly say the staff are very friendly, the food is great, and they welcome feedback. I was asked when paying what i thought, and they were genuinely keen to hear my opinion. It was only a small gripe, but they took it on board and LISTENED. When we bought a cake to take with us, it came in a box, not a paper bag. Little touches like that go a long way, and my wife keeps hassling me to see when we can have lunch there again. For Ipswich, its a big step in the right direction, proving that we don't all live on pies and chicko rolls. A quality cafe, and I will be back again, and again, and again.
