Lovely cafe near some interesting shops in Ipswich. We all had a version on the eggs benedict, which was done well, but a bit pricey. Coffee was stong & a bit bitter but a small amount of sugar sorted that out. I didn't like the black walls, decor felt a little dated. Service was good, our waiter must have been new but still did a good job. I'd definitely go back & recommend, especially to try some of those delicious cakes i spied.
This is a fantastic breakfast/lunch spot with a very delicious menu. I would say that this is the best place for a daytime meal in Ipswich CBD, the atmosphere is very relaxed but sophisticated and there's a terrific selection of things to have. The portions are very satisfying - I recommend the Stockman's burger and the Big Breakfast if you're very hungry, or one of the pies! For a lighter meal the eggs benedict is always perfect, or one of the very flavorsome healthy salads if you're after something that is light but satisfying. And of course the rosti, which never disappoints. If you have a sweet tooth I can't recommend their cake selection enough - especially the key lime pie and the cherry ripe cheese cake!
Great atmosphere at this restaurant. Loved the furnishings. The service was friendly. A great place to sit back and relax. We had the potato Rosti with bacon and poached egg with pesto hollandaise and the French toast with grilled peaches and creme brûlée. Both were delicious. It was good to try something different instead of a standard menu item. Found no faults at all with this place. Enjoyed the generous serving size
FourthChild is an inviting cafe in a beautifully restored heritage building. There are outdoor tables under umbrellas, and a large indoor area with a raw and moody feel.
The menu boasts many great options. We both chose the rosti stack for our Sunday breakfast. Served with bacon, poached eggs (mine were swapped for haloumi), avocado and a pesto hollandaise sauce, the meal was large and filling. The rosti themselves were probably a little over cooked- while I loved the crunchy texture, there was no soft potato centre which would have been nice. While quite a heavy breakfast, it was well seasoned and enjoyable. I also enjoyed by chai tea latte.
The service was friendly and prompt.
Top points for their amazingly humungo caramel slice which I ordered to take away with intentions to share however those intentions did not go to planned....the slice did not last long.
The beautiful ladies at Fourthchild kindly even decorated my takeway gigantic slice with strawberries, fresh creamed (which was legit self-whipped cream by the way, none of this spray cream sh!te) and floral carnations. Sometimes the smallest things can make the greatest difference.
Current status.....Caramel slice-coma
Having heard a lot about this place and with an hour to spare I decided to finally try FourthChild for brunch. The Mexican beans were a hearty option and more than I could manage on this cold morning. The coffee was served promptly but a little bit more bitter than my liking.
Yummmm, Yum and more Yum.. yes please!! We Loved our Eggs Benedict breakfast here, beautiful creamy rich hollandaise sauce, eggs were poached beautifully, and the spinach was divine, seasoned perfectly with the right amount of salt. FourthChild never lets you down, I highly recommend going here for any meal, exceptional quality, great customer service and food that will rock your World!!!
Always delicious food. A little on the slow sidd of service but worth it. The fresh iced teas always go down easy and super refreshing! Must try!
Saturday brunch date in Ipswich with the girls. With only one of our group local to the area, we relied on the recommendation of my work colleague and fellow foodie, MB. I'm very glad he talked me into Fourthchild - What a winner!
First up, I loved the decor and atmosphere. Really gorgeous moody tones with lots of wood textures and exposed brick. Plenty of natural lighting and vases of "just picked" style flowers on the tables helped to brighten and create a calming, welcoming vibe.
Secondly, the service was fantastic from start to finish. I noted that all of the service at Fourthchild was quick, polite, and not intrusive. It had been some time between catch ups so we took quite a while to decide on our food, but our waitress was very friendly and patient with both us and our teething 5-month-old companion. There was a mistake with my friend's coffee order, however this was minor and we appreciated our waitress' offer to make a new one.
I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the beans here are Campo's. After a late night and an early start, I needed a decent caffeine hit. My vanilla flat white absolutely hit the spot. Perfect strength, great sweetness from the vanilla, and perfect drinking temperature.
Deciding what to eat was difficult as there are so many great choices at Fourthchild, but I couldn't go past the Creme Brûlée French Toast - creme anglaise, berries, ricotta, maple syrup, berry coulis, and sugar bark. Beautifully presented, this dish was almost too pretty to eat! And it was super delicious!
The toast was cooked perfectly and I loved the berry coulis. I was really happy with the amount of maple syrup here, as I'm not normally a big fan. The ricotta was a lovely addition to the plate too. I found the creme anglaise to be a little bit grainy in texture, but still tasted good. The overall balance of this breakfast was perfect, with all of the elements working together to create a dish that wasn't overpoweringly sweet.
All in all, we had a really relaxed and enjoyable experience at Fourthchild. We're already talking about coming back for dinner very soon!
First time here for Breakfast. Great atmosphere with acoustic music. Beautifully decorated lots of raw authentuc te tures of the building. Meals were highly delicious. Fast to come out. Great tasting coffee. Would definitely recommend this place!
If there’s one restaurant which brings Ipswich’s heritage to life, it’s Fourthchild. The imposing 1879 building, which once housed the Commonwealth Bank, has been beautifully restored, including its historic rustic brick walls and pressed metal skylight (which gave the venue light in pre-electricity days). Now, huge bifolds open to the street and the magnificent wall-long painting by local artist Brett Sparke places the venue firmly in the modern era.
Owned by the Williams family, Chef Christine manages a team of seven in the kitchen including their daughter Jessie, while husband Ross takes care of front of house. Having been in hospitality all their lives, the couple run a tight operation. Service is very professional and the restaurant is spotlessly clean, with fresh flowers on every table. Details count in the food as well, the kitchen sourcing all local produce from Lockyer Valley farmers, making everything in house including the two well-stocked cabinets full of delicious cakes and slices, pulled pork and mushroom pies, quiches and lasagne.
Our Slow-cooked Rangeland sticky beef ribs with hand-cut chips and slaw are impressively moreish, as is their version of the Hinterland Duck à l’orange, a classic rendition served with a honey and pumpkin pudding. Sure, there are sides, but the mains are generous enough to feed the hungriest diner – a delicious meal ‘of generous proportions’, as Alexander McCall Smith might say. Still, we manage to share a Rosewater brulée, which hits the sweet spot for dessert.
Open 7 days for breakfast and lunch (there’s plenty of choice under $20, excellent for a business lunch), with dinner from Tuesday to Saturday, Fourthchild is also open late when other places close early. Live music, cut price cocktails and an impressive house wine entices us to stay. There’s even a function room upstairs! Funky, with the consistent quality of a family-owned business, Fourthchild really is impressive.
Had a good lunch in this busy little restaurant, which had a great atmosphere. I'm not a local but I was dining with someone who was & they said it's always good food there.
Spent the night with friends near Ipswich after attending A Day on The Green at Sirromet Winery.
Mid morning we needed a good breakfast to clear the cobwebs and recover from an awesome night with the B52's & Simple Minds.
They highly recommended the Fourthchild and was not upset it had a score above 3.5/5.
Table service with chilled water and menus. Great breakfast menu that goes till late afternoon (not every one is an early bird).
Decided to try the Avocado smash, my gf had the vege stack and her hubby had bacon & scrambled eggs on sourdough.
Coffee beans are Campos, my favorite and the flat white was hot and perfect 5/5!
The Avocado Smash had fried haloumi & 2 poached eggs! Maybe it was because I felt a bit fragile, but I must say it was the best Avo on toast I have had ever!!!!
The vege stack looked amazing with layers of sweet potato & eggplant visible and topped off with a poached egg! No skimping on size, GF couldn't finish the meal.
The only reason I didn't give this place a 5/5 our table was missing a table setting and we had to end up stealing cutlery from another table after our meals were placed in front of us! The waiter seemed rushed off his feet, but truly it wasnt that busy. Going to the toilet after eating, you walk past the kitchen and was pleasantly surprised that it was an all women kitchen. Well done ladies, the food was 5/5. It was front of house that let you down!
All said, I will definitely be back to try breakfast again & the lunch menu.
Nothing like a 3:45pm brekky hahaha seeing as I didn't get much of a breakfast before work this morning I thought why not make up for it this afternoon.
From entry to exit this place gleemed with glamour and sophistication. A massive shout out to Jared (apologies if I butchered the spelling) our waiter who was extremely well spoken and looked after us the whole experience in an extremely professional manner, you deserve a massive pat on the back.
First things first, the coffee, Campos coffee and this was very well done and tasted brilliant!! Mains, the Grande brekky for me and and Pancake Suzette for the other half- absolutely beautiful!!! Presented well and tasted even better, tried to fault but simply couldn't, garlic mushrooms were beautiful, bacon cooked perfectly and not dry, Turkish break just wonderful. Very enjoyable meal.
Cant beleive a place this enjoyable is in Ipswich.
Highly recommended.
A very, very late brekky date at a great cafe on our way to the footy.
Located right in the middle of Ipswich, sits this wonderful establishment. Plenty of seating both inside and outside and another dining room upstairs. Love the styling inside, in area that is very much dated, this cafe/restaurant is very trendy and modern. Brickwalls on either side, beautiful art work, modern decor - very well styled. Service was excellent, we were served by Jared who was so lovely - served us with a smile and was super efficient. Jared is definitely a keeper FourthChild!
Food - Pancakes Suzette for me. I love anything citrus and the more zing, the better. This hit all the marks for me - lovely fluffy pancakes, delicious citrus sauce, ice cream, whipped cream topped with candied orange rind and edible flowers. Simple and delicious. Not overly sweet and the perfect amount of acidity.
Drinks - Iced Latte, yummy and cool - perfect for a ridiculously hot 40+ degree day!
Would most definitely recommend this cafe/restaurant!
This place is seriously amazing. The food and coffee is delicious and fresh. The atmosphere is inviting and vibey. The staff are really friendly and attentive, always well presented. If anything it's too good for Ipswich. The owner is really lovely and is always there doing a great job. Thanks for feeding us and being incredible! 😍☕️🍽🍳🥓
Fourthchild is pretty spacious, nicely decorated with its darkly coloured painted interiors. Service is prompt and friendly. We had one of their beef sandwiches and we enjoyed it. The bread was toasted to perfection, with plentiful of beef slices.

I love coming here for a coffee and chocolate brownie!! Best cafe in Ipswich, IMO. Good ambiance... staff are very friendly and helpful too.
So I do not remember Ipswich being this cute when I used to work here. But Fourthchild is the epitome of casual cool dining. I've only been here for cakes but I hear their Reuben's are a must try. But I also hear they make all their cakes from scratch, on site so perhaps I do have the right idea. The ones I have had taste device and is everything they're supposed to be. Will definitely have to come back for food
Been here a few times now - my go to cafe in Ipswich for a late brunch! Love the food always fresh and delicious, amazing service every time just a little expensive but definitely worth it
Very best eggs Benedict in town and I have eaten them all! Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Not cheap but I'm happy to pay for a decent hollandaise.
My Husband and I haunt this place. Not sure what people are complaining about price wise, you get what you pay for. It's about the same as the coffee club, except the food is incredible. Coffee the best anywhere (Campos!) If you really LOVE your food, this is absolute must!
I just saw the new menu go up for FourthChild, which reminded me to leave my review of the last few times I've stopped in to visit. I really enjoy FourthChild. A cool space for pretty much any meal, I highly recommend the vege stack during the day or the italian meatballs for dinner.
My partner and I have been for breakfast on several occasions here and every time it has been impeccable. Prompt service and friendly staff, the food is magnificent and the venue itself is very quaint. Would definitely recommend, it is worth spending a little extra for a pleasant and enjoyable dining experience.
At first the service was rather slow since it took awhile for the beverages to come out and then the food came out at different times as well but when I my partner and I started eating, we completely forgot about the slow service. The food here is excellent! My partner had the pancakes and Spanish omelette and I had the Creme brûlée French toast.
The Creme brûlée French toast was perfect! Creme brûlée was made perfectly and you could definitely taste the vanilla custard and the consistency of the custard was just how a Creme brûlée should be, accompanied with the sweet French toast, this dish has become one of my favourite breakfast dish.
My partner really enjoyed his meals and his mixed berry frappe but I wish I could say the same for my beverage. My meal was great but the downfall was the ice coffee. The coffee was burnt, it did not leave a good taste at all and after attempting to mix the ice cream to try and make it better, it was still bad which is a let down since I really enjoy ice coffees but this one was not enjoyable.
Overall, this place is a little high price, it is still worth it for the food however, paying $8.80 for a burnt ice coffee was definitely the downfall of this dining experience.
What a pleasant surprise. Looking across the street I thought this was a night club but then noticed the menu boards through the glass. We we're met at the door by a very pleasant girl, the decor is urban chic with a fabulous massive canvas dominating the room, lovely big tables and glass cabinets with a huge selection of fresh savory foods and deserts. The menu is interesting and well thought out, it's licensed and also does great coffee, my husband had to have 3 long blacks! Will be back.
First time here for lunch this afternoon. I ordered a salmon and Camembert quiche and for dessert a Mississippi choc mud cake. Both of which were fantastic and didn't have to wait long considering how busy it was. If your looking for some nice different food in Ipswich this is a top place!
Fourth Child worth a second chance. We tried a sunday morning breakfast, sharing the banana pancakes, vegetarian dish and coffee. delighted to say that the banana pancakes were amazing. The dish boasted well balanced flavours, excellent portion size and wonderful presentation. Unfortunately, the vege platter was a bitter disappointment. lacking in a variety of textures and flavours, and with a very subpar chutney, the meal looked like a generous serving, but was not actually filling at all.
the ambience, decor and service were wonderful. there's been a lot of care and attention to detail with the overall atmosphere and professionalism. the coffee was above average.

Really liked it! Been twice once for breakfast and lunch. Funky decor, interesting food cooked perfectly. It's up market and works. Waiter were lovely. Coffee was great! Defiantly going to be my regular
Loved the salad I had, so healthy. Loved the friendly staff, loved the atmosphere. Would definitely return!
All rounder. Great food, great service, great coffee.
The atmosphere is awesome and the waiters are so lovely. There's a real sense of family from the moment you walk in. Yes, the menu is maybe a little pricey, but it's totally worth it. It truly is an oasis in Ipswich.
Yep they got it.. After several different dining experiences i feel able to review honestly. This establishment offers great food, good but a bit slow service, average coffee AWESOME cakes! Sadly however the prices( not night time) are that of a big city and a little pretentious for Ipswich! Altogether a great experience with room for improvement! :D
Fourthchild is first. We've been enjoying Fourthchild for quite some time now. Usually for dinner but more recently for breakfast. This place continues to pack them in for breakfast / brunch and while we don't particularly like crowds or having to wait for food Fourthchild have pacing of service down to a fine art. We never seem to wait long for service and can always find a place tucked away that we can enjoy a quiet meal. Dinner is our preferred time to enjoy Fourthchild. It pays to make a reservation and being BYO is a great way to make the night out less expensive. Food is always interesting and fresh. The staff are happy to assist with particular dietary needs. We'll continue to enjoy Fourthchild and highly recommend it as a "must stop" in Ipswich.
We have been going to Fourthchild since they opened and were half the size. We love the staff and the atmosphere and the food is delicious. My favourite breakfast item is the frenchie and I just keep going back for more! Also have noticed the new oven behind the counter and saw the chefs baking their own bread. Love it!! When can we buy some???
No middle child syndrome. It is worth the venture out to this place (there is also an aswesome little hand made crafts place next door). The cakes are always fresh and beautiful and ofetn adventurous - they understand the value put into good, homest baking. I just wish they would offer large size coffees to wash them down with so I don't have to order two!
Everytime I visit forthchild (5-6 times now) I have been very impressed. The food is fresh, vibrant and tastes amazing every time. The use of good produce is evident and interesting ideas are thrown at you by the chefs and at great effect. These guys don't just impress, they amaze. Ipswich can only move forward with places like this, and at fourthchild it's in leaps and bounds.
I love the style and atmosphere at Forth Child and my friends and I have been a few times. Lovely food, I was there last week with a friend, whilst we were chatting away, we must of been interrupted over 5 times. Waitress asked if we had finished our cakes which clearly we hadn't, she then took my coffee cup that had a mouthful left in it. I'm still going to be a patron, but if we continue to be interrupted while we are catching up then I'd rather go else where... I felt rushed and that's rude!
When we arrived they were packed... The service was a bit slow (which is to be expected when they are so busy) but thankfully the food was delicious! Not too badly priced either, and the staff were very friendly. They did make a mistake with our order but were quick to fix it up.
I wish they opened more hours (like a couple of jights during the week, or a bit later on saturdays), but we will definitely be back!
We were looking for something close with yummy food and value for money. This place delivered. Food was great! The variety of seating arrangements is awesome. Outside on the footpath, out back on the verandah, inside near the fireplace or in a smaller room. The place is immaculately clean and well looked after. Amenities are located at the back and also immaculate. One of our waitresses was a hoot! Prompt, polite and with a great sense of humour. I think she's Korean, she's good value! They do an all day breakfast and the desserts look incredible. We were too full to indulge tho. Not to worry tho, we're going back!
Cycled the BVRT and needed to refuel in Ipswich. I ordered two large slices of delicious lasagna and a burnt caramel slice. Excellent service from Ross and the team. Would highly recommend!
Once again we had a great meal in the Ipswich Region. Fourth Child has great food and we saw some of the other menu items that other patrons ordered and was impressed with what we saw. There seems to be a few regular patrons who know the menu of by heart.
I had the BLAT and my wife had the seafood chowder in a cob-loaf. Both were great. My wife asked for some butter for the rest of the loaf and it was no problem and the staff were friendly.
Great little brunch spot in the cool Brisbane Street side of Ipswich. Good coffee and brunch menu that's actually tasty. Coming from Sydney, we'd be happy to come here for the occasional brunch. Definitely proof that Ipswich is gentrifying in a good way. Friendly staff and food came out in a timely manner. Outdoor and indoor seating and groups welcome.
Great place to have breakfast/lunch, massive portion sizes and plenty of options for specific dietary requirements. That being said, a friend of mine did order the breakfast burger without bacon as they are a vegetarian and their food arrived with bacon, not a super big deal but just something to be mindful of for intolerances and allergies to double check with waitstaff.
All in all a lovely place with plenty to choose from 😊
It has been more than a year since I have ventured into the Ipswich town centre and visited Fourthchild Cafe. An early appointment saw me back there for breakfast and what a treat it was. They do the best lambs fry and bacon I have ever tasted. It's a five star winner. It's all backed by great serice and a smile.
