A pleasing selection of choices from start to end. Great service and friendly suggestions on food/drink matching. Very informative menu. Good food, good times.

The reviews are accurate for this place. Warm and friendly staff, lovely setting on the deck, good coffee great food!!! Fresh juice would just make everything perfect. It’s hard to get warm genuine service in Brisbane so to see it in Ipswich is fantastic!. And don’t forget to tip the staff they’ve been through hell the last 18 months and without them there is no dining out. It’s vending machines only. I will be back for lunch or dinner soon. Thank you Dovetails

Absolutely stand out restaurant!! We live in Brisbane and it is completely worth the effort to go down and partake! Julia and Tahlia were simply incredible hosts and I feel privileged to have been able to laugh and chat with them both! The food is creative, tasty, incredibly well balanced and put simply delicious! We had such a great time and will definitely be back to sample the other dishes on the menu! Thank you for a beautiful dining experience. We feel privileged to have been able to witness such wonderful food and service. Gold stars to everyone involved! :-)

The restaurant was well presented and staff were inviting, professional and helpful. Main food (lunch) was a little ordinary compared to the dessert menu which was absolutely amazing. Price wise I thought a little more than expected but overall w the service, good choice of wine, and overall experience I was prepared to pay it.

As a group we ordered many of the dishes and all of them were excellent, from entrees through to dessert. And the service too was great, friendly, and very attentive without being too quick. Definitely our favourite home restaurant here in Ipswich and it's right up there with the best restaurants in Brisbane. Outstanding.

Perfect experience. We were seated outside under the beautiful tree, served by really great staff/management. Prompt service and absolutely delicious food. Staff were excellent with both meal and drink suggestions, free taste sampling and anything else required to make our meal satisfying.

Working my way through the menu. Latest find is the Brussel sprouts side dish. An absolute must to try. Always delighted by the staff’s knowledge and commitment to helping you choose exactly the right wine to compliment your chosen dish. My go to choice for guests to town. Beautiful food of dependable quality and excellent service in a magnificent heritage setting.

We arrived at 7pm for a family dinner and waited for nearly 30 minutes to even get served for a drink. The starters took an hour to come out with 2 being forgotten. The mains came out at 9pm with a 10 minute wait between each meal and told by a waitress that another table with children were being served before us, but we found out they forgot our meals totally. Terrible wait service for everything. LONG waiting times for food, rude staff and food is average for an expensive restaurant. Mel was great to us all under the circumstances. All other wait staff need a check with their professionalism and timing. Wont recommend to anyone!

Pretty poor service with the amount people that were there for a decent meal and atmosphere.the most praise I have to give to is MEL one of the wait staff there that went above and beyond to repair the poor service that was performed by other staff members with attitude and disrespect.

What an enjoyable classy restaurant. All our meals were delicious. We waited a while for our mains but the wait was worth it. The service was great and we will certainly be back. I totally recommend the prawn and crab ravioli. Thanks Dovetails.

We had a lovely meal at Dovetails, the chicken was cooked perfectly. I particularity loved the Eton Mess for desert, it was delicious. I highly recommend this venue to celebrate a special occasion.

Very dissapointing. Went there for lunch. Booked a table for 3. Arrived on time , seated at the table ,then after some time were given some water. Thats where the service ended. The waitress never returned. It wasnt as if we were in a corner of the restaurant ,we were in the middle. We tried to get the attention of the waitress but to no avail. There were only 4 or 5 other tables that had people seated at them . After 15 minutes of being ignored we left , NEVER to return . We had eaten there before and enjoyed it . Unfortunately never got the chance to try again.. Went up the road to Papa Sushi and really enjoyed it.

Great location Great food Service not so great Love coming here and we come here more than often with friends for lunch More than frustrating to have to go to the bar and ask for more drinks every time we are here as we have never been asked by staff to refresh an empty bottle Very disappointing

My mum and I enjoyed an AMAZING breakfast for my birthday yesterday morning (18.11.17). We received exceptional service from Georgia, she was very professional and attentive. Another lovely girl, who’s name I forgot to ask was also very professional and provided great service. We both had coffee and Eggs Benedict. The food was great and very generous portions. My only negative would be that I asked for hard poached eggs and they came out runny, but mums were firmer so we just swapped.. no biggy. All in all, we will definitely return 👍🏼

Lovely restaurant with nice clean premises, attentive and friendly staff. Meals were reasonably priced for a quality restaurant, with food being fantastic. The steak was cooked to perfection, and attention to detail of the deserts and taste just delightful. Would truly recommend this restaurant.

The food is consistently excellent, and well priced. I have not had any meal less than 8/10 (and several 9+/10) in several visits here. Staff are genuinely friendly - not always polished, but genuine and helpful. Delightful venue and deck also. We love this place.

Had dinner here Saturday night. Service was wonderful. Was never left waiting long. We both had the Barramundi special and it was the best Barramundi we'd ever had. Amazing flavours. Wish it was a permanent menu item!!

We had a great evening . The food was great. Service was very good. Atmosphere good -no loud music so could hear the people around us in the conversation as it was a special catch up time . I will be returning for future special occassions. Thank you for a very special evening .Thanks Lucia

I brought a friend in for lunch today as a first time visitor and it was amazing. I had the linguini. Wonderful service, beautiful atmosphere and very yummy food. The menu was exciting. I can't wait to bring my family back.

Chose Dovetails last night to celebrate a very special persons birthday. Dovetails was my venue of choice for this celebration based on the current menu which included a Mango & Coconut Panacotta which i knew the birthday girl would enjoy. We didn't have a late booking but unfortunately by the time we were ready for desert they had sold out of the panacotta which was extremely disappointing as nothing else on the desert menu appealed to us. We had a lovely young lady serve us who enquired if there was anything else to replace it but ufortunately there was not and she was very apologetic. Our mains were lovely apart from an overcooked " rare" steak. The venu is lovely but needs some sort of cushioning to absorb the noise as it was extremely loud and hard to talk across the table. We will return to Dovetails and hopefully not be disappointed next time. Thank you.

Arrived and offered a table for 2. We sat for 20 mins with a menu, another party of 8 arrived and immediately was asked if they wish to order coffee. At this stage we had not even been offered to place an order for anything. We over heard the waiter ask them to place an order....not only were they able to place an order for coffee but for breakfast! We were yet to been asked to place an order!!! We also over heard there was a 25-30min wait for food....so in the end, we would have to wait for the table of 8 to get their order fulfilled in 25-30, we would be well after that, even though we had been sitting there for 20 mins. Terrible service. And they didn’t seem to care when were approached a service person and told them what happened. Terrible will not be going back!

We got to this restaurant for breakfast at 10:40 but apparently the kitchen closed at 10:30. We walked around to find a place to have breakfast but couldn’t find any good option on a Sunday morning.
We went back to Dovetails and had our coffee and waited until 11:30 for lunch.
My zymil cappuccino was burnt, it tasted just like burnt sweet milk. I couldn’t even finish my coffee. The soy cap was apparently good.
It’s a very nice place particularly the deck with a beautiful tree in the middle. The ambience is very pleasant particularly with the sound of birds.
Staff were nice.
For lunch I had sweet potato gnocchi and my partner had vegan pumpkin risotto. The food was just average and the risotto was not soft and needed a bit more time to be ready.

Asian fusion pork belly was better than their steak. Bit of a surprise considering I thought the steak would have been the winner. Great spot overlooking the park.

We actually took advantage of a coupon deal for Dovetails just to make sure it was worth the drive from Brisbane! Just loved the beautiful setting in the old refurbished building. The warmth of the rustic bricks & ambiance of the stoic old trees under which we sat for our Sunday breakfast was well worth the drive. The menu is basic, but food is delightfully fresh , of good local quality & well presented. My order was avocado nicely fanned with lots of greens, feta & cherry tomatoes. Coffee was rich, super strong & very smooth with great depth of flavor

Beautiful refurb and stunning deck overlooking a park with 100 yo trees. Nice enough menu friendly staff but slow kitchen. Had the wagyu steak sandwich and it was excellent. Really good. Fries were fresh oil cooked and perfect. Went back for the minestrone and it was a standout.

A family get together. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I am only going to review what i ate myself. To start with we had bread and dipping oil. This was nice but nothing extraordinary. I had salmon for main which was perfectly cooked with wilted greens which were firm and not overcooked. Meal sizes are large and we had no room for dessert. Only let down was service was very slow with us having to wait to order drinks. The coffee was also very slow coming and we has to ask twice to get it.

Our first trip to Dovetails today for Sunday lunch. It was about 1.30pm so we had no trouble getting a table for 2 outside on the deck in the shade of an amazing old tree. Staff attentive and friendly. Everything happened promptly. The restaurant is beautifully decorated inside and has lovely big tables for groups as well as nooks for couples. I ordered the Wood smoked duck salad with pickled cherries, goats cheese, candied walnuts and raspberry vinaigrette, hubby had the prawn and sandcrab ravioli with garlic prawns and asparagus. Our meals arrived promptly and looked appealing. There were 4 fairly thick slices of duck breast that were a bit overcooked and chewy, no smoke flavour detectable. Way too many lettuce leaves, 1.5 cherry toms, 2 cherries, a tiny sprinkling of goats cheese, and a bland vinaigrette. Hubbies ravioli was a bit dry and chewy, like it had been left uncovered in the fridge before cooking. We think it was a commercially produced ravioli topped with their cream sauce with thinly sliced asparagus and 2 fresh prawns. For drinks we had a soft drink and an iced latte. Bill for the lunch was $60 which is too much if we are not impressed. Our waitress asked our opinions and we told her which she quickly passed on to the Manager. The manager promptly came and asked us about our experience and took notes. We will return in the near future to give them another go as we like to support local business.

We had a wonderful experience at Dovetails for breakfast. We were greeted with such a friendly welcome and the service remained exceptional throughout. The restaurant itself is beautiful, tastefully refurbished and decorated. The deck outside is great, with a leafy outlook under the shade of a gorgeous old tree that the deck is built around. The menu was very appealing to us and there were also two breakfast specials- one sweet and one savoury. The food was lovely- we had the corn fritters with avo smash, and one of the specials (chorizo, haloumi, poached eggs, relish). We can't wait to return, and to try their lunch and dinner menu's!

My wife and I went out for lunch and few days after opening and could not fault one thing we tried. Between us we had the Queensland Scallops, Octopus and Chorizo Salad, Drunken Steak and Twice Cooked Pork Belly. Everything was cooked perfectly and was a real treat. I definitely recommend having the Queensland Scallops. I'm now waiting for a free morning to go back and try the breakfast menu.

In April 2017, the Pumpyard expanded their dining options with the opening of their new conference centre (the Lord Lamington Room that can cater for up to 200 for cocktails and 120 for sit down dinner) and à la carte finer dining restaurant Dovetails, (named in honour of the many carpenters who trained at this former TAFE complex). The expansion is the jewel in the Pumpyard’s crown... Maintaining a sense of heritage with its panelled timber walls and simple elegant furnishings and lighting, the large banquet table shows off dovetail joints on its timber top; the skill after which the restaurant was named. Look further and you’ll see more attributions in the large dining room adjoining the marble bar.
