Review Char'd Restaurant - Ipswich

Tina Agassiz
We were a group of 3 who turned up unexpectedly as we are new to the area and was literally in the car looking for somewhere to eat. During our travels we stumbled upon Char’d Steakhouse and thought let’s give it a go if possible. Shortly after arriving we were approached by the friendly restaurant manager who asked if we had a booking which we didn’t. We could see how busy the restaurant was however the manager made every effort to accommodate us as newbies. After finding a placement at a booth, the manager explained how it all worked and advised wait staff will be over shortly to ensure our orders. We felt welcomed and comfortable. Food took a little while to reach our table from time of order though we could see they were busy and understaffed due to Covid etc. We commend the manager and his staff on their service overall. Great place, lively food, comfortable seating & a nice atmosphere. Thanks for having us. Highly recommend.

A casual monday lunch, pub style food with a very nice atmosphere and very friendly staff and short wait time which was great, as for the food I had the lunch special of lamb, vegetables and mashed potatoes which was about $19 a decent portion, lamb was soft, vegetables were also very soft but did not have a lot of flavour and the mashed potato was rather bland also overall it was ok though my husband had the ribs and wings again, good size portion flavours were good and price point was pretty reasonable, other meals thats came out to other tables looked really good so I wouldn't completely dismiss this venue on the one experience we had. This venue has: - great atmosphere - great customer service - reasonable wait time for meals

Good food, reasonable price. Very spacious place with comfortable seatings. Staff is friendly and helpful. Great service. Highly recommended! Will definitely come back again.

Beautiful place!! Lovely style & deco. I enjoyed my delicious "reef&beef" meal everything was cooked to perfection. Not your 'average pub' but more of a classy type pub. Considering the amount of people that were there we were served promptly, service was great & staff were very friendly. Thank you! We will be back again.

It was my 1st time here, and the atmosphere was nice, the staff welcoming, and the food good. The fav was the seafood chowder according to my sister and brother-in-law. They go there regularly, and were thrilled to see the new seafood menu.

My family and I came in unexpectedly tonight after wanting to come here for the longest time!! We are so glad we did, what an experience. The food was perfection, the drinks were great and the staff were courteous. The venue inside was absolutely gorgeous. We will be back again. 5/5 stars, love it!

Such a great place! Loved it. I think the food is so delicious, hot, fresh and all round brilliant place to eat. Love taking my family there. Sunday specials are good too. Cheers

Arrived and seated, no menus available and we weren't ready for the qr codes menus ordering, been a long time between dining out. Delicious meals, partners brisket and veg didn't look amazing but was very tasty, my barra was divine, found a small bone. My partner asked for a doggie bag and the waiter went to get it but forgot, after a few minutes I had to go and get waiters attention. When I finished my dish I placed to the side of the table but staff kept walking past and left them there. Beautiful surroundings and lovely atmosphere.

Extremely rude and unprofessional staff. Very disappointing experience and not the first time for myself and others who have visited before. Food may be ok but it’s not worth it. I hope management there fix their staff because the attitude and vibe they are giving off to customers is extremely unpleasant.

Went to this place last week while on holiday with the family. I got the Red Claw Crayfish which on the menu seemed amazing. We also got the salmon and the surf and turf. Everything came out okay and looked nice. We ate dinner and everyone seemed pleased with the costly dinner. However, it was about 2 hours after the meal and suddenly i had a pain in my stomach. Turns out the food came out quicker then it went in at both ends! To make things worse. The person who had the surf and turf also got what i had but half an hour later. Lets just say, when your in a motel with 1 toilet and multiple people needing to use it. It was very unpleasant and what was a nice evening became very sour. Avoid the crab and seafood at all costs!

I have frequented here because the Food is excellent. Beer choice and quality is excellent. But when you are asked to leave your table, that had no reserve on it, whilst beginning your meal with family is unacceptable

Ordered the avocado parmigiana and it was delicious, great serving size with a side salad and chips as well. Service was great too, didn’t wait too long and there was always someone to talk to.

I ordered an eye fillet steak, medium rare. The steak was more on the side of rare, but it didn’t matter. The quality of the steak was done justice.y mushroom sauce was simply divine, and if it wasn’t such a nice establishment, I would have licked the sauce out of the dish! My partner ordered the fried wings. Very big portion, and well worth the money. The wings were cooked nicely, the sauces well selected, and the chips were delicious and crispy.<br/><br/>The ambience of the restaurant is lovely. It was a tad too dark, but the decor is beautiful.<br/><br/>Service was excellent. Wasn’t aware that you had to wait to be seated, but orders were taken and prepared in a more than timely manner.<br/><br/>All in all, a fabulous night, and will be back again for sure!

Went there for a birthday dinner and the service was amazing. The steak was cooked to perfection and served quickly. The side of chips and salad was the perfect set off. Would go again and again.

Had a family dinner and for our first experience it was great! On the night we went out it was busy but it was good to see the staff who handled it very well under pressure. Food was on point and also customer service.

This was our first time at Char'd Steak house. We had garlic & cheese bread for a starter which was delicious & full of flavour. For my main meal I had the corned Beef with white sauce mash & vegetables, lots of flavour, meat so tender it just melts in your mouth, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. My partner had the steak sandwich with chips & garlic aoli which he enjoyed, for a steak sandwich there was barely any fat though it, quality of meet seemed high. There is so much variety on the menu which I loved. Great table service from the waiter, very attentative & friendly. Meals did not take long to come out with what seemed like 80% of tables filled with customers. I will definitely eat here again & would highly recommend this place to family/ friends.

$150 for 2 - pretty expensive for what could only be termed lacklustre food.<br/>Duo of dips - bland and no flavour I am afraid... couldn't identify but I think they were meant to be avo and capsicum...<br/>Calamari whilst really nice and tender had no flavour at all - same with the pork belly - not fatty, well cooked but no flavour and the menu said crispy ... it wasn't :(<br/>The pork main had a really funky (in a bad way) sauce - my ribs & wings combo - ribs cooked really well (again) but where was the sticky sauce that it was meant to be cooked in? - not just just brushed on it for service. the chicken wings (yuk!) deep fried and then with the same sauce brushed on them.<br/>Gotta admit tho that the chips were good tho :)<br/>This is the second time in 3 years we have dined there and unfortunately, we now remember why it has been so long between visits :(

The Korean cauliflower for entree was the highlight. So yummy. Had the salmon on Asian greens for main. Salmon cooked just right, Asian green were just zucchini and broccoli but delicious all the same. My partners pork was nice but would have benefited from some salad or greens, not just mash.<br/>

A bit disappointed in the restaurant tonight, while the food is delicious and couldn't fault. The fact that I was charged an extra $15.40 for ordering Veg and Mash with my $34.95 Eye fillet. This is the first steakhouse I've been to that has not had this as an option instead of chips and salad. So I have apparently paid for Steak with a Chips and Salad plus Veg and Mash, but I did not receive any chips or salad at all. I called the manager once I got home asked her about this issue. I wasn't very pleased that all I got was "well the waitress should have told you, sorry about that" response. So I don't think we will be back here for a while.

Five star prices with one star service.. The waiter spilt a drink down my back and when I asked what he is going to do for me he replied 'I said I was sorry'... That summed up the night. <br/>$48 for a dozen oysters was hard to take and after one beer they run out of the beer I was drinking... Needless to say, we will not be returning anytime soon.

The service was first rate. Unfortunately the food was quite ordinary. I had barramundi and my partner had steak. The waiter and the wine list were the highlights.

We had lunch at Char'D and were sadly disappointed. We ordered the chicken wings, Canadian scallops and the eye fillet. The chicken wings were the highlight. They had a lovely flavour and we both enjoyed them. They were served with a strange sauce that may have been butter or sour cream or a wayward attempt at mayonnaise, I'm not sure (it was not listed on the menu) but it was sour and bland.<br/>The scallops were overcooked. The Asian salad that was served with the scallops was fresh and crunchy, but the chilli jam tasted more like an Italian tomato relish and just didn't do anything for the scallops or the salad. The rib eye was nice, but certainly not enough to call a steak lover back for more. We had coleslaw with the rib eye which was swimming in dressing. It was just too much. Once our meals arrived (which took about half an hour or more- surprising considering we were two of about 10 guests at the time) the waitress did not come back to check in on us. We would have complained about the scallops at that point. When we paid, the waitress didn't take the opportunity to ask about our meals then either. Again, I would happily have offered feedback. Overall, disappointing food, drab and uninterested service in a nice looking venue.

This place looks cool and funky and has an extensive menu but the service and the wait time is pretty poor and I haven't had a meal there that I particularly enjoyed. The beer is also outrageously expensive although they do have a wide range of boutique beers. I go back from time to time hoping they have improved but yet to leave satisfied!

Expensive and awful quality food. I suggested this place for my birthday as I've driven past it a few times and it looked like a decent place to eat. My pork was absolutely dried out and just served on top of a mash..no veges but 5 leaves of baby spinach. I was starving at 2 am. My friends pork belly was so dried out it wasn't enjoyable she ordered a dinner sized entre it came out entre sized with the tiniest amount of ceaser salad on a small entre plate. It just honestly was over priced amateur cooked food..I could have made better at home. Feel absolutely robbed.. Don't go there your wasting your money.

Was not that bad. Went for a quick Friday night dinner for two. Service was good, not super quick but they got the job done. Steaks can out cooked perfect (medium). The sides are ok but nothing special. Yes the price is a little high for what is a great pub lunch.

Poor service. We went to Charred on New years eve 2014. We had booked and then arrived and was not served for 45 minutes. No offer of drinks or to order. We left -no one noticed.<br/>We booked at plantations -in same building and in 25 mins had ordered our meal paid for it and received 2 courses , what the!

Black, burnt steak at a 'steak house' is unacceptable. The staff were very friendly, and the food came relatively quickly. The bar staff were especially good; they clearly knew their stuff and were very friendly and polite. However the food was awful. My steak was tiny and didn't come with many chips for $24. Worst of all though I ordered my steak well done, which on their website they insist does not mean at all burnt, but it was very burnt. The majority of it was black and very hard. I'd expect much better from a place that calls themselves a 'steak house', especially with how pricey they are. One person at our table also received a napkin with gravy on it and a very dirty knife. I'd expect far better from such an expensive place! I'll definitely not be coming back here ever again.

Terrible Service and Overcooked Steaks. I visited Char'd for the first time for lunch on Saturday. It looked promising at first, interesting decor and warm ambience, friendly greeting by the staff and a not too busy dining room (in fact in was only 1/4 full). Our meals arrived and I had the Bug and Bird which was absolutely delicious. However, it was all downhill from there. My husband ordered a medium rare steak and received a steak with barely a hint of pink in the centre. For a restaurant that claims to be a steakhouse overcooking a steak that much is just unacceptable. To make matters worse, we finished our meals and sat there for close to an hour attempting to get the wait staff's attention to order more drinks and dessert. No one came to see if we were ok, or take our dirty plates away, and attempts to flag them down went ignored. Considering the place was almost empty it was ridiculous. In the end, as the check wasn't brought to us we went up to the counter to pay, then we left thirsty and without dessert. All in all extremely disappointing and won't be returning.

Loved it! Food and service was brilliant and it has an upmarket feel to it. Steak was delicious and I am defiantly going back. Prices are high but you pay for quality. Really enjoyed myself.

Im not the type of person to complain but have to be honest. Hi, My first time going to Char'D and Grill sunday 27/7/2014, First thought place looks great regards presentation. To make this easy i'll review this in point form review out of 10:<br/><br/>- Customer service : 4 out of 10 -> Had to ask a few times just to get someone's attention.<br/>- Pricing - Way to high prices for what you actually get. Very SMALL 'PORTION SIZES' for the price. 27 dollars for this meal - bug and bird. tiny piece of chicken , small amount of potato mash and the bug which is half a moreton bay bug, could get more off a prawn .... BASICALLY DIDNT EVEN HIT THE SPOT A CHILDREN SIZE MEAL PRETTY MUCH.-> 1 OUT OF 10!<br/>- Value for money is very poor.<br/>- food did taste good the only good thing I could say - 7 out of 10.<br/>- And wont be coming back again to poor value for money I don't recommend going if your hungry, go to sizzler or hungry jacks. Whole family was disappointed with the cost regards meal size. rip off !!!!

Went here on tuesday the 1st of july for my birthday. <br/>We were a party of 3 adults and 2 children.<br/>The restaurant was not busy, at most there were 6 tables with people dining. <br/>Entrees were delivered in a timely manner. Mains, not only did we wait for close to an hour for our mains, when they finally got to the table they were cold. The gravy on the side was also cold, was not very enjoyable and after such a long wait we just ate it because we were starving!. The kids meal of the day was spagetti and meatballs. However we were given a pasta made on spicy tomato sauce with a few bits of bacon. Obviously as it was quite spicey, my little fella was not impressed. We ordered dessert. We waited 40 minutes and ended up giving up. We arrived at 5.45 and left at 8pm.by this point I was very upset with not only the lack of service but the cold food that we had to eat. I did mention all of this when fixing the bill. The young lad was sorry to hear this but did not try to rectify the issues. I will not dine here again. I am not happy to pay top dollar for cold food with crap service.<br/>there were at least 15 staff on this night, the restaurant was not even busy.there is no excuse. And serving a child a spicy kids pasta, come on? Serve what you advertise!

The best. This restaurant is one of my new discoveries. Always pretty busy but quality of service and food never fails. Love it. I must say it is a must try

I liked the new feel at Char'd. The staff are wonderful, even though it gets pretty busy on sat but the manager took care of us. I liked the maple pork and the mango ice cream desert. Worth my time and money! Thanks Char'd

Went for a dinner, was so busy. Had to wait half an hour before anybody actually asked us for orders. We had had three drinks before our entree arrived. The steak main was overcooked, the other main pasta was undercooked. And the price of the food is ridiculous. Recommend they reduce the patronage so they can focus on the service.

Bad experience. Appalling service. asked for no blue cheese and still got it on my pizza. They denied it, but you could clearly see the blue cheese. waste of money.

Mick. Had dinner at Char'D thursday night 20th Mar, waited near 1 hour before anything arrived, entree was minimal (3 scallops!) and mains were small portions, left feeling still hungry. For the price I expected a better meal.

So Saturday night was the second time I've given this place a chance. The first attempt at dining here, the food was over priced for rather average quality and the service slow. <br/>Enter Saturday night 15/3/14. Not only have I vowed never to dine at this establishment again, I now doubt the possibility for anywhere in Ipswich to provide a satisfying dinner experience. <br/>We waited over an hour for our meals to come out, and when they finally started trickling onto our table, the first to receive their meals had finished by the time the last received theirs. When asked about the slow wait time, the manager said this was standard for a Saturday night. It's no secret, I love food and probably eat far too much, however never have I experienced a wait of over an hour in a restaurant and had this deemed acceptable by an annoying demeaning "manager". <br/>So, what did we get for out 1hr+ wait? A burnt pizza (no wonder it took so long, they were busy burning it....), a "spicy haloumi pasta" which was served without the haloumi, a couple of other average meals and the piece de resistance, a kids fish and chips, the last meal to reach the table, which was still raw in the middle. Lucky my nephew is a cluey kid and spoke up when his fish didn't taste right, otherwise this complaint would be forwarded to the health department. <br/>When the pizza was re-made (apparently by the manager him self.... Seriously should have left it to someone with some food preparation know-how...) the fetta on the pizza was rather fetted. Tasted more like off cottage cheese. <br/>The managers appology, free tea/coffee and dessert. Admittedly the dessert was edible, however for such a fail of epic proportions, and as compensation for the loss of valuable life-time and the destruction of my taste buds, probably something more should have been offered. <br/>I understand the place was busy, but if that's the norm, maybe more kitchen staff may be needed. Or more efficient staff. In the very least, advise your patrons that the wait will be so long. There seemed to be a lot of floor staff doing nothing, including a woman, for whom a smile may well have been painful, standing pretty much in the one spot all night looking over the dining room. Unless she was a "live" art installation, it's rather off putting having someone's eyes sweep over the table every 10 mins from the naughty corner near the register. Maybe they could replace this roll with a fake owl from Bunnings, or a scare crow? <br/>Seriously, life is short, don't waste a minute of it dining here. You will be sadly disappointed.
Kbush
Lacking overall. Had a reservation for 5. We waited 45 minutes to get first drinks, two hours for meal which was extremely poor quality. The worse service I have experienced.
Tessa
Great food. Char'd has great food, I've had a few different dishes there and never been disappointed. The service is inconsistent which I have always put down to new staff being trained - staff are never rude or not trying.

Loved Everything!. I normally have lunch at Char'd but decided to try for dinner- Amazing! The whole atmosphere changes at night with the fire and the lighting! I love it. The staff were great and really helpful, prompt to take our order and make suggestions. The Bug and Bird arrived and looked incredible and tasted great, my steak was cooked perfectly. We had wings to start, and I eat wings a lot, and these were some of the best! Will definitely be going back and recommending to everyone.

FANTASTIC!. Amazing Food- thankyou chefs. Great Service- very attentive waitstaff. I do love the new Chill'd Cocktail Bar. Steaks are great. Love the Rangeland options. Thankyou.

Deb. Visited last weekend and was very disappointed. The wait staff were more interested in chatting than taking orders and had to be asked to come to table. Not a smile to be seen. Our meals took over an hour in a not too full restaurant. Meals were very nice when finally arrived but not really enjoyed because of wait time and attitude of staff. <br/>This is the second time I had been to the PA for a meal, once before renovations and to try the new look place. Both times nothing to recommend to people. Won't be coming again.
Emily
Poor form. Waited for an hour and a half for our meals. Steaks were over cooked.
Martha Krause
Service was horrible , I myself work I hospitality have high expectations of service but even my partner mentioned the wait. We waited at the front counter for 10minutes unsure if we had to be seated or we found our own seat, once we were seated we noticed the lighting was horrible to eat as we could barely see anything, and then took 20 minutes for the waitress who I had to call over to come and take our drinks and meals order. Drinks took a long time to come out when it was only soft drinks and meals weren't that flash with my partners steal being very fatty and the pork sirloin very tasteless! <br/>Training of staff should also be dealt with as many of them had ok customer service skills at all .. <br/>Won't be going back .

Steakhouse?. Have just come home from having dinner at Char'D. Had a 350g Porterhouse which had a large amount of gristle and fat through it. Certainly not the quality I would expect in a $35.95 meal at a Steakhouse. My son had the same which he found OK. My wife's order was served with chips, not the garlic mash she had ordered, however this was sorted promptly. My complaint to staff both when the table was cleared and when I paid the bill was met with an almost indifferent apology. On a previous occasion with a group one of our friends had the same experience as myself. At the time I thought she may have been over-reacting, but now I understand her complaint. It seems to be a variance in the quality. Not sure it earns the title "Steakhouse". Maybe I should have gone to Sizzlers!

We went on a Saturday night. Bookings are recommended but as it was just 2 we got a table straight away. <br/>We were seated, and 5-10 minutes someone came and took our drinks order. we asked to order everything at the same time.<br/>Entrees came within 10 minutes. Twice cooked pork belly and the garlic and cheese baguette. Baguette was AMAZING!! <br/>We both ordered steak for dinner and it came not long after we had devoured entree. <br/>Both ordered medium rare. Both got medium verging on medium well done. Little disappointing because it's a steak restaurant. Don't ask how I want it cooked if you're not going to listen! <br/>Saves were amazing though (I had mushroom, hubby pepper) and my salad was yum. <br/>We had asked if the ceases salad had anchovies and were told know but when hubby started eating he noticed straight away. They were apologetic and replaced it with a different dressing. Perhaps some room for staff to work on being familiar with the menu to answer allergy questions properly.<br/>Overall enjoyable. Steak was still tender and had good flavour. <br/>Cost us $120 for the meal, a beer and 2 cocktails. I recommend the fluffy unicorn. :)
Michelle
Disappointed. Been wanting to try this place out for a while so we finally did the other night. We both ordered steak medium rare. While my partners fillet mignon was cooked absolutely perfectly my 250g rib fillet was medium bordering medium well done-very disappointing!! I didn't like my side of green vegies sprinkled with dukka either as it had an aniseed flavor AND the small bowl was half full of lettuce leaves!!! Even less impressive, and possibly the reason why we may not go back is the very rude blonde (the older of the two on the night), who was very rude to us not once but twice. Compared to the other wait staff we had she really ley the team down. And 1 out of 2 steaks cooked correctly is not good enough when paying a reasonable amount of money. You have some improving to do people!!!

Steak heaven!. This was our second visit to Char'd. Our decision to have the steak on this occasion was a good one. Actually the menu at Char'd is a well presented and informative description of all the various cuts of meat to choose from. <br/>My husband had the Black Angus Sirloin and I chose the 350g MSA Rangeland Porterhouse which when making my order to Kylie, came highly recommended. She also suggested I have the garlic prawn topper which I'm glad I did! Both steaks were superb! The expression of 'a knife cutting through butter' came to mind! <br/>The staff are all a credit to the management of this establishment and cope with the demands of such a large venue. Very well aware this industry depends and runs on service, the staff were friendly and very helpful and gave a first class service. I hope the management will keep the menu changing for the customer to enjoy fabulous seasonal fair for everyday and every occasion. <br/>On a final note, on our last visit, the cocktail bar Chill'd was very much a work in progress but I am happy to say we were presently surprised by how it was looking. Very much a cool and contemporary space for future customers. <br/>Good luck with future endeavours. We will be back soon.

Not my favourite. Have been twice to Char'd now... and I'm not crazy about the menu. I don't eat steak and I think considering how many people eat chicken the menu is lacking. The onion rings are more ring of batter than onion and are very greasy, I felt queasy after eating a couple. Last time my family went for dinner 3 weeks ago my meal was luke warm, I would have told some one if I could have gotten any ones attention. We ordered drinks, they took 20 minutes and it wasn't busy. And unfortunately this is another restaurant who has management who won't ask parents to stop their children running around other diners. When I go out for dinner with my husband, without our children, I don't want to have to put up with other peoples children running around like they are in a playground. Unfortunately this particular evening the parents didn't care what their kids were doing as long as it wasn't any where near them.

1st Time Visitor. I had occasion to vist Char'd today for Lunch, accompanied by my wife and daughter.. First impression of outside and appearance of premises was very positive. Very pleasing to the eye and inviting. On entering, immediately greeted by the friendly staff. Our requirements requested and shown to a window booth. We ordered some drinks and settled back. Next we ordered our starters and main courses..A short time later, the starters were served and were excellent. Excellent portions.. When these were cleared, our main courses were served..We had three seperate main courses and all were again excellent. The portions were generous, so much so that I was the only one to complete..Take Away Tubs were supplied to both my wife and daughter and they were delighted to pack it in for later consumption..no one wanted to leave or waste anything. The food really was excellent, and great value. It hit the spot. You cannot ask for anything better.. A super visit and eating experience.. We had then had a relaxing coffee and a lovely chill period..We then went for a leisurely wander about the various parts of the unit. It looks as if the new Cocktail Bar will be rather Plush..our only regret is that we will be back in Scotland when it opens. Despite the ongoing building works, the building is immaculate and so welcoming. The toilets definitely rate very high. Love the Dyson Hand Dryers. Quality shows!!..Altogether a great experience. None to the there of us had any disappointment. We will return and sample more of the menu, before leaving. Special mention for Jackie H would contributed fully to our comfort.. Thanks again, Ed.

Not so hidden Gem of a Restaurant!. I have visited the PA a few times now – and find myself continuing to go back to Char’d Restaurant whenever I want to impress someone for dinner....... Or when I want to spoil myself with the diverse items on the constantly updated and delightful menu. <br/><br/>From the outside, you aren’t really prepared for the stylish interior - I found myself gazing around Char’d for a good 10 minutes, thinking I had gotten lost in Brisbane and somehow stumbled into a Trendy Melbourne venue. <br/>Whilst we weren’t able to be seated straight away, we were offered seats next to the bar, where the friendly and extremely bubbly bar staff suggested cocktails and wine for the evening. <br/><br/>Every time I have visited here, it has always been extremely busy – so I was a little worried that we may be forgotten about, however as soon as a table became available our waitress immediately came over to seat us. <br/>The menu is amazing, and caters for the ‘manly’ steak and pizza feeds - but also caters for the smaller meals, should you not be able to make up your mind between the Pork Belly entree or the Lime Prawns!! I would highly recommend the Papardelle pasta dish, which seems to have changed slightly over time – but is fresh and amazingly tasty. <br/><br/>Overall, I have had 5 out of 5 fantastic dinners. The staff are always bubbly – no matter how busy the night gets. The Managers always seem to be doing the rounds, checking on all the tables and often asking for feedback before people leave. I have also noticed the Managers popping into the kitchen to check on the food and orders– which is just another tick in the box from me. <br/><br/>Really looking forward to my next visit!

Service has definitely improved compared to a month or two ago. Waiters are much more attentive and drinks come shortly after ordering instead of a large delay and lost orders as previously. Food has always been good but seems to be more flavoursome. The bug and bird was fantastic, especially the bug. The risotto of the day, mushroom and truffle, was absolutely delicious. Only let down by the undercooked rice...after sending it back they clearly just tried heating it more instead of starting again so it was still just as crunchy when it came back but the flavour was still amazing. We were also provided a free drink while they "fixed" the meal which was good.<br/><br/><br/>-----20 Sep, 2013-----<br/><br/>We attend this restaurant around once a month and after around 8 visits i am writing this review. The food is lovely, the service on the other hand leaves a lot to be desired. While staff now attend the tables a lot more often than previously this does not mean you get service. We were asked if we wanted drinks, ordered them and they never came. Upon follow up 20mins later they had to take the order again as it never made it to the bar. A softdrink was flat, which they happily replaced however we had to wait over 10 minutes for a new one. We stacked our glasses at the end of the table and someone came and took our order for refills. This person did not take the empty glasses. 5 other staff came to the table and asked if we wanted drinks, we advised we were waiting on some and all 6 staff walked away without taking the glasses sitting infront of their hands. Our drinks came and this person walked away with an empty tray, leaving the glasses still on the table. Meanwhile other patrons had left and paid, the 12 staff working and two managers stood around outside the kitchen and around the bar happily chatting away and laughing. It wasn't overly busy and despite tables they should have been clearing and resetting they had time to talk but shouldn't be doing this at front of house. Again excellent food but very unprofessional staff and service including managers who do very little managing.

Flawless. Visited Char'd for the second time on Saturday night and was put in the stunning outdoor area that I did not know about (beautiful bottle tree with fairy lights, and a water feature) and everything from food, drinks, ambience and service was fantastic. The outdoor area helped with the ambience, it was extremely busy inside and obviously quite loud, so it was nice to get away from the buzz. We expected a long wait as it was Saturday night but the arrival of the entrees and then main was reasonable, no better or worse than all popular restaurants on a Saturday night. <br/>I had the chicken breast with creamy fettucine and my partner had the maple pork, both meals we would order again. Absolutely delicious. From the lady that led us to our table, to the young man who brought our drinks to our waitress for the evening, everyone was very nice and accommodating, and our waitress seemed genuinely interested in our experience, from chatting to us about the outdoor area, making sure we weren't too cold, to checking in on our meals. Everyone wore a friendly smile. We will definitely be back, and we couldn't pick a flaw from our experience on Saturday night. it's one of the best things to happen to Ipswich and is definitely comparable to the standards of dining in much more expensive restaurants in Brisbane.

Great night. Great sevice fantastic food.....<br/> my choice the 300g Randland Rib, give it a go you will love it.

Great Food & Service. I dined with two friends at Char'D last night (21-08-2013).<br/>The food and the ser<br/><br/>We all ordered the '300g Wagyu Rump Marble (score 6-7) ' with chips and caesar salad, I asked for medium with Brandy & Mushroom sauce and my one of my friends asked for well done.<br/>This is a positive review, but first:<br/>In my opinion, medium was less cooked than I usually get and the well done looked a bit burnt. I might order medium well next time.<br/><br/>The Wagyu steak was delicious and salad was fair. The thick cut chips were better than ordinary. My friend said that the chips were almost as good as the Vibe Hotel chain's chips. Good serving size.<br/><br/>We all ordered dessert, I was thinking about the 'White Chocolate & Macadamia Brownie' and the waiter recommended Sticky Date Sauce. So I had that and it was great. My friends ordered something like a chocolate pudding, with a small vanilla infused pear and a scoop of berry gelato. <br/><br/>The service was fantastic, staff visited our table just as we needed them and they weren't pushy over-asking about drinks. I don't tend to drink only water.<br/><br/>The atmosphere was nice, but maybe better for a meet with friends rather than a first date due to the lack of ceiling and air-conditioner hum.

You best not be hungry when you arrive. Poor service, taking a long time to take our orders and bring drinks regardless of having ample staff around. The meal was nice but the extensive wait left a bitter taste. The meals were over priced for Steaks and a bit of lettuce. Won't be going back. Certainly would go on a friday or Saturday night.

Bring your barley sugars because this will be one lone wait. There was only three other tables there and we waited well over an hour for our main meals. I had better success doing the 40 hour famine than waiting for a meal at char'd

Disappointing. While the layout and atmosphere is good, the food and service left a lot to be desired. I had wanted to order the wagyu, but was told they had run out. So I settled for rib fillet to be cooked medium. My husband also ordered rib fillet to be cooked rare. After waiting 1.5 hours for this meal to arrive, my husband's steak was blue and mine was well done and dry. The other people we were dining with we're also disappointed with their meals. And considering they are a "steakhouse", you would imagine this would be the one thing they would get right. I do understand that it was a busy night, but this should have been anticipated by management as the V8s were racing over the weekend.Char'd obviously need to hire more staff to cater for the large volume of patrons and probably need to hire a better chef.

Dissapointed. Had been looking forward to a great meal, but got a warm meal that was very much like a piece of round instead of wagyu. The decore is wonderful the atmosphere very nice but the food was sorry the worst steak I have eaten in a restaurant for a long time. My partner wasn't happy with his either. I so hope it was just a bad night.

Exceptional Food & Service!!. I don't normally do this, but I felt I should tell someone about my recent experience at Char'D in Ipswich. The service was second to none, in fact my waitress (tall blonde lass, Jamie), went out of her way to make sure all my requirements were attended to. I am quite a fussy eater and she assured my meal was exactly how I wanted it. My meal came out in a timely manner and the overall atmospehere in the restaurant was quite pleasant. Please pass on my thanks to Jamie and the management. I will definitely be back! Kindest Regards, Dan (Toowong)

I Visited Char'd last night and I was extremely impressed not only the Decore but my general experience was nothing short of amazing I was seated and a drink order was taken promptly, then we had a lovely tall blonde girl introduce herself and answer any questions we had, her understanding of the menu was impressive. Our entrees seem to arrive quickly the pea and ham soup was delicious! The service I have to say made our night it costs nothing for a smile and to be looked after by someone with that and a little personality definitely makes it worth returning. We can't wait to come back!

Amazing! The food was delicious, quick and tasty! Some of the best food I've ever had! The staff were all friendly, accommodating & knowledgable. I was impressed by our waiters menu knowledge! About to book for mothers day. Thanks guys for a great night out!

Amazing. I had dinner at this restaurant the other day, one of the waiters is super cute, but the food is delicious! The Pork is to die for! I would definitely go there again, and I'm thinking of having a birthday celebration there too, I forgot to ask them if this was possible to book big tables, but as the staff is lovely, i'm sure it won't be a problem at all!

Big improvement!. I ate at this restaurant in December, and while the food was great, I found the service to be lacking. I decided to give the restaurant another go last week, and was pleasantly surprised. I was served by a pleasant young girl who was very friendly and incredibly accommodating. I have some dietary issues and had many questions about the food, which she answered easily and with a smile. <br/><br/>The food was of the same great quality, and now I am very pleased to say that the service matches the food. I will definitely be returning! <br/><br/>I would also highly recommend both of the "Jackies" who served me, as it was their excellent service that has changed my mind.

Great Food!. I went here one night with my parents, I had seen the sign and finally thought to give it a go. The food was excellent, I didn't have a problem with the service. I had the Beetroot Risotto and loved it. My parents also enjoyed their meals. We will be going back for mothers day as my mum was very impressed. Lets just hope they keep on the ball and don't slack off.

"Best food I've ever eaten!". This line is a joke that my boyfriend and I have because he uses this line whenever he has a meal he loves. It is only used when we both make eye contact during mouthfuls with smiles and a knowing nod at the line that will leave his mouth when we finish the meal. We hardly talked during the meal because we were too busy enjoying every mouthful of our meals, content to just enjoy the food. The service was brilliant, we didn't have a reservation on a very busy Saturday night and were seated despite the rearranging the staff had to make, our lovely waitress (dark Asian girl) took our drink (she had knowledge on the wines) and starter order, she delivered our drink order quickly. We then placed our main order as our garlic bread starter arrived. Another waitress approached as she saw my wine was running low and got me another glass even though I didn't remember the name she said she'd check the bill and had it to me quickly. Mains arrived promptly, I had the chicken while my boyfriend said his medium rare steak was cooked to perfection. Both meals were delicious. We were more than happy with our meals and the brilliant service of the staff.<br/><br/>At the end of the meal my boyfriend said the line I knew was coming, it was the "best food he's ever eaten".<br/><br/>We will definitely be back.

Food Fab, service rubbish!!. Went to Char'd on Thursday for my birthday dinner. The food was outstanding!!! Every one of us had an exceptional dinner HOWEVER the service was atrocious!!! Waited forever for our drinks, then the bottle of wine ordered was wrong. When we finally got someones attention we were told that the wine we ordered was out of stock and this was the replacement. Would have been nice if we were told BEFORE it was brought to us in case we didn't want the replacement one. AND our waitress was chewing away on gum while taking our order and was a rude cow!!! I understand if they were shortstaffed but that is NOT my problem and if you think the general public are tools, get out of the hospitality industry. For the amount of money we spent I expect MUCH better service.

Loved it!. Not sure about all the reviews- I went to Char'd for lunch yesterday and it was honestly great. My server Kylie was amazing, very attentive and made the whole experience fun. They had great lunch specials, I ended up ordering the Tuscan Chicken Salad and loved the flavours. My work colleague had a steak and it was cooked perfectly, plus he loved the side of asparagus with melted feta and lemon drizzle. It was also perfect for our lunch meeting, we were able to sit at a booth. I'll definitely be coming back for lunch again.

Myself and two others went to char'D last night - and luckily I still went despite the most recent review - out waiter was very attentive and knew the menu well, the service was very quick and my friends' steaks were cooked to their liking. My only criticism was I ordered the salmon and couscous - salmon was perfect but the couscous was very bland and seemed to be there just to increase the size of the meal. Overall though, was a good experience.

Terrible service. We had a booking yet for some reason our table wasn't ready and the restaurant wasn't that busy. After waiting for 15 minutes, we were seated at a booth that only had 2 sets of cutlery for our party of 6. <br/><br/>The drinks were ok, quite quick to be served the first time. The meals however took a very long time. Booking was at 6:30pm, at 8pm we were still waiting for our meals. Only 4 meals arrived and we were asked if we were waiting for anything else (no 2 people just showed up to watch the others eat!?!). Then another meal arrived and again we were asked if we were waiting on anything else and asked if we ordered at the same time (which we did). <br/><br/>We asked for a jug of water for the table and when it finally arrived, only 3 glasses arrived for the 6 of us. The next time we asked for more water, no glasses were provided. The meals were ok, dessert was disappointing with only 4 options, and over all the evening was a fizzle as the service was terrible. I will not be going back.

Just had dinner & the food was lovely, tasty & ample size BUT service was shocking! It's a shame that all the effort with decor & menu is ruined because of slack, lazy service. The restaurant would make have made much more money had we received some sort of drinks service & had been actually asked if we want desert. We were shown to our table promptly (restaurant wasn't busy), food order taken 5 mins later & the staff had to go off to find out what soup of the day was & what the dips of the day were. would have thought they would know that at the beginning of their shift! bread delivered promptly & that was it. Waitresses then stood at the pass chatting almost the whole time our order took to cook & was then deposited in front of us. After we finished, quite some time after, some plates were removed & the rest left there until we left. We had to ask for drinks as a waitress passed by. Gave up on desert. Would hate to see what service was like on a busy night. Very disappointed, once again another restaurant in Ipswich let down by staff who obviously haven't been trained or brought up properly - a smile costs nothing nor does common courtesy! Won't be back, once was enough!

Would be one of the worst restaurant experiences we have had we were ignored by the waitresses for most of the time we were there and when we eventually ordered we waited for 40 minutes for some house soup and a few fresh prawns for entree when we decided to leave we were then charged approx $ 16 for to scotch and drys and a soft drink in summary terrible service and will never go back .

Disappointed.... I was instantly impressed by the fitout. Char'd definitely looks the part of a modern steakhouse. But sadly it went downhill from there. <br/><br/>They'd lost my booking (and I'd even phoned and spoken to a real person). The waitress was sullen and looked like she'd sooner be somewhere else. Service was poor. Food and drink arrived reasonably, but attention before ordering and in between was almost non-existent with the waitress mostly invisible (there were only a handful of other diners in the restaurant). Finished plates sat on our table for a while. <br/><br/>The meal itself was ok, the Wagyu was cooked well and the sauce was tasty. Nothing to rave about, though....I feel like I can get a similar meal at competing steakhouses, and far better service.

Great food & service. Just had a great meal at Car'd with my husband. Had awesome rosemary and thyme cobb with camembert cheese and dukka, was super hot and totally awesome. My husband had a steak cooked perfectly to his taste with super hot chips on its arrival to the table. Staff were friendly and service was great.

Amazing! Really enjoyed the food<br/>& desserts. The service was good & quick. Love all the cocktails. Skittle vodka...yummm. Favourite!

Loved it!!. Sometimes when you have such high expectations you are bound to be disappointed. I tend not to have too high expectations, and make my review based on the overall experience not so critical of one or two minior hiccups. I agree with previous reviews that the staff dont have top 5 star quality but are we at a 5 star restaurant???<br/>We had a table of 19 and all of our meals were cooked well and we were all satisfied that they were worth the money we paid. The quality of the food was of a high standard and fresh, we had no concerns with waiting too long or feeling pushed however if we had a concern the staff were eager to help, No-one is perfect and like all new restaurants there are going to be teething problems with staff etc especially when you see the influx of people comming in to try it out. I think that some of these reviews are a little too harsh but important all the same. I have just booked to go eat there for the 3rd time since it opened and am looking forward to the experience again. I wish them luck as it is good to see some new nice places to eat in the ipswich .

Crappy 21st birthday dinner. I booked this place for my 21st birthday after dining there for lunch one day and the food was fantastic. Come the night of my birthday, I had a group of 17 people. Most of us were all there before the booking time but we were still being hassled by the kitchen to start ordering entrees (keeping in mind this is before we were even scheduled to arrive.) It all went down hill from there... My meal was laced with garlic, I could not taste the spinach fettuccine or the mushrooms. It was just cream and garlic. A friend who also ordered a different pasta meal had 3 whole cloves of garlic in her meal. An order for rare steak came out blue and was still stone cold in the middle. The steak was sent back and came out medium rare instead of rare. The waitress was rude when asked for fresh cutlery after the entree (after she had just placed the entree cutlery back on the table for the mains) when the fresh cutlery was brought out she simply threw the pile in the middle of the table, I thought a glass had been smashed she dropped them that hard. The staff needs training in hospitality because their service was poor with a restaurant that was not overly busy. In the end I was not happy as we still paid top dollar for a night that was suppose to be good but the meals were not even up to home cooking standards. So lets make this clear... I do not recommend this place at all, how can they make so many errors on the same table? I almost feel embarrassed for them!

Not up to standards I expected. Arrived on time. We were taken to a seat which was situated in the darkest spot. Couldn't see the menu, couldn't see what we were eating. We were asked what we wanted to drink but didn't have a drink menu. Sign outside flashing in eyes all of the time. Only ordered a main meal. Found that the entree's (especially oysters) were overpriced compared to better quality restaurants. I ordered the pork which was dry and thrown on the plate with some fancy looking chips. Steve ordered the steak (wagyu 300 gm $34) which he asked for medium to well done. Came out on the plate in 2 separate pieces like it had been cut in halves thrown on top of chips with a sad looking bowl of salad and a tablespoon of gravy. Was well done. Don't think the chef could decide how it was done as had 2 sticks in it (1 said well done & 1 said medium well). We have always liked going to plantations for there meals but the steakhouse has ruined plantations reputation and we won't be coming baclk.
DaniK
Terrible service, average food. Not worth wasting your time or money. Took forever for the meals to arrive and they were'nt even worth the wait. It's a pity because plantations (also at the PA) is a great restaurant, but this experience makes me want to avoid the whole place.

Potential But Training Needed. Char'd could be a very good restaurant and the staff are people trying hard to do their job with no training. The menu is good but the details are missing which from observation relate to a lack of coordination and training. I observed people waiting at front of house to pay a bill for 15 minutes as the person front of house was elsewhere doing something else. <br/><br/>Service was slow but courteous. Asking the staff they appeared to have very little service training but were trying their hardest.<br/><br/>This could be a very good venue but managers and owners need to put more attention into training and mentoring staff to provide excellent service.<br/><br/>I would suggest that a worthwhile investment would be an experienced front of house manager and attention to staff training, combined with incentives for staff who train others and provide excellent service. This short term investment will produce long term gains and happy diners.<br/><br/>A venue with potential if there were more attention to detail and training of staff.

Dinner at Char'D was a great experience!! Impeccable service, lovely staff and great food- a wonderful new addition! Will be sure to visit again!

Fabulous food and staff. I dined at Char'd for lunch today and had a really enjoyable experience. I ordered the 250g steak that was cooked to perfection, with a peppercorn sauce. The steak was complemented by the sauce that enhanced the flavours of the dish. The staff were attentive to my requests and this capped off a great meal. I look forward to my next visit!
Mandy
Worst food and service I've ever had. Firstly we ring and ask do you have any bookings, they say we will call you back, we get the only 2 tables full, what's with that.<br/><br/>Lots of staff on but no customer service, food was terrible ESP for price! <br/><br/>Beautiful resturant shame about the rest

Always a pleasure. Expecting a quiet night on Australia Day my wife and I decided to have dinner at chard tonight. We have been numerous times now and are loving what it has to offer. Our meals were exceptional! My wife had the Barramundi which was beautifully cooked, it is good to find Australian seafood at a reasonable price. I had the Pork Sirloin which is undoubtably the best pork dish I have eaten in years. There was a young waiter and waitress who seemed to have the room under control and we received kind and efficient service. Our previous experiences have been enjoyable but notable issues were obvious. Understanding they have been open less than a month we persisted and are sure glad we did! We expect chard will be our new regular dining venue and be sure to take our friends. It definitely is a great step forward for Ipswich dining

Yum!. I dined at Char'd today with a party of 3 adults and 2 children. All of us were very pleased with our meals, and any food left on plates was because of the generous portion sizes, not dissatisfaction. We shared a few breads and entree items between us. The prawns were fresh and served with a delicious lime & chilli aioli, the rosemary & thyme cob with camembert and dukkah was hot and seriously tasty, and I'll be going back just for the twice-cooked pork belly, which was served with an unusual-but-perfect caramelised apple sherbet. For my main, I chose the maple glazed pork sirloin. It was incredible; tender and tasty, probably the best pork I've ever eaten. My fellow diners chose cheesecake or ice cream for dessert, while I chose the white chocolate & macadamia brownie. It was delicious, but a little too buttery, possibly because it was served warm. Char'd isn't cheap, but the serves are very generous and I found the quality of the food to be worth the price. I wasn't overly thrilled with the uber-masculine decor, which featured lots of cowhide, timber and more cowhide. The wait staff need a little more preparation before starting service (you shouldn't have to go back to the kitchen to check what the chef's specials are), but they were attentive and our meals arrived quickly. I'll be going back.
Vicki Parslow Stafford
Loved it. Food was great, well-prepared and well presented. Especially like the entree breads. Service was quick and willing, but the young staff need more practice and polish. Five of us dining, and everyone was well pleased with their meals. The twice-cooked pork belly entree was fabulous, and the seafood eaters praised the chilli lime prawns and oysters kilpatrick. The decor is pretty horrible (moose antler chandeliers and panels of what looks like mouldy cauliflower on the bar front) but that is my only gripe.

Very Pleased. We visited this restaurant a week or so ago and we were very impressed by the look and feel of the space. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Drink service was exceptional, heaps of beers on tap! Our entrees were prompt and mains were great. My steak was cooked to perfection. Overall a great dining experience and will definitely be returning. Great work all involved!!!

Visited there last night the service was prompt and the steaks were fantastic, we will be going back.

Before you try this restaurant you really need to ask yourself how long you want to wait for your meals. We decided to try this restaurant on Saturday night, sat down at the table at about 7pm, entree was served within an acceptable time, but there were no mains still served by 830pm. We left hungry and disappointed. Certainly wont be back. Other people were walking out as well and a lot of other people were fidgeting and constantly turning heads looking to see whether if their meals were coming.
Trish Standen
Really disappointed. The space has been renovated so beautifully that we couldn't wait to give it a try. My husband, 7mth old baby and I were seated at 7pm, waited 45mins for one entree and were forced to leave at 8:30pm after waiting an hour and a half as my young son was too tired to wait any longer. Can't say I will be returning any time soon.

Have attended Char'D 3 times since it has been open and must say what a terrific job they are doing. It's great to see a new fresh restaurant in Ipswich offering Brisbane like food/ service and decor. All staff were very friendly and attentive to us at each of our visits. Food was absolutely excellent and obvious to see the thought and passion put into the menu and cooking and presentation of the meals. Whether you go for lunch or dinner you will have a great dining experience. I will certainly be back and supporting this Ipswich business.
IpswichFoodieNomNom
Really disappointed, steaks were cooked twice and wrong both times, no consistency over two visits. Service was friendly and drinks ordered quickly but wait times for meals were still not great for an early week visit. For a new, great looking venue I am very disappointed, I hoped this would be a great stepping stone for Ipswich. Sadly will not be returning.

Very Disappointed. We took my mother in law for dinner at Char'd and we were very, very disappointed. The meal was booked for 6.30 we got there at 6.15pm we ordered drinks then after 1/2 hour the drinks came except for my mother in laws Merlot we were told had to go out and get a bottle (liquor barn next door) another 20 minutes after asking again got the wine. We had ordered Garlic bread as an entre and an hour later after asking twice eventually got the garlic bread, 1 hour and 15 minutes later we got our mains, my husbands Chicken Kiev was burnt and very dry inside, my mother in law's pork was stone cold, My sons pizza was not very warm and my meal was reasonable but nothing to get excited about. We will never be going back.

Extremely disappointed with my experience dining at Char'D.<br/>The service was very slow from the staff. ( with the exception of the male waiter- he was a great help)<br/>The kids "hamburger" came out with a giant roll, and what looked like a homebrand frozen patty that was 1/4 of the size of the bun. The cheese was so melted it blended into the patty. There was no sauce, no onions, no lettuce, no tomato. The roll wasn't buttered.<br/>I was later informed by the waitress that the kitchen had "run out of the ingredients for the hamburger so they sent it out like that" - definitely not good enough!!<br/>We then asked for a different meal, and ordered the natural oysters. These came out with an off oyster on the plate. We complained about this and were told that "sometimes that happens". <br/>We weren't offered a discount for the poor service, discussing meal and off food. <br/>The PA Hotel used to have a great reputation, and I have been going there for many years, as far back in the time when the restaurant was called "Swags"<br/>Highly disappointed and won't be attending again.

Won't be going back. Claiming to be the best steak house we thought we would give it a try local newspaper advert seemed impressive very bad service waited 20 minutes for drinks then to be told they didnt have the wine my husband ordered so he choose another waited again to be told they not only didn't have the second choice but didn't stock most of the wines on the wine list . Entree came before first glass of wine very sloppy oysters kilpatrick swimming in bottled BBQ sauce main meals came the steak was cooked ok the cold chips and salad just chucked on the plate with no effort to presentation not worth the $ 32 pice tag that's for sure. My Caesar salad was the oddest looking one I've ever seen certainly didn't resemble any Caesar salad I have ever had . Very bad service awful food would never go back again!

Good food, Good value. Visited Char'd for lunch. Great decor and friendly staff. We were seated almost immediately, drinks order taken as soon as we were seated - only a few minutes wait for drinks to arrive. We ordered steak mains (steak, beer battered chips and salad, choice of sauces plus the additional "steak toppers" for a little extra) - nicely presented, good quality and only about 20 minute wait - plus it tasted great. Cost was surprisingly low for such a hearty meal. We'll definitely be returning for another visit.
Fredjd
Not Happy. Won't be rushing back there for a meal anytime soon. Not happy at all. Service was very bad, not to mention waiting for more than 20 minutes to be seated when we were 2nd in line. When we were ready to order had to wait another 10 minutes to be told it was table service and someone would be with us in a minute to take our order, which wasn't a minute at all. Finally someone did come to take our order, Thank god I asked how long meals would be as we would still be waiting there for a meal. With a 45 minute wait on Entree's we decided to get up and walk out. Maybe employ more staff.

Great steaks and menu on offer. lovely fresh interior on offer. service was fantastic. 24 beers on tap, great to see Ipswich going ahead.
