Review Dragon Garden Family Restaurant - Ipswich

Food was good though smallish portions. Spring rolls and crab soup were tasty.

Been coming here for many years now as a family favourite for all our family function Birthdays & dinner nights. Pricing & staff are always lovely, friendly & within range. Never had a problem with any meal ordered. Thankyou for sharing with us our family memories.

Has really gone down the hill was once a great place for a Chinese dinner. Went here last week when some friends came up from the coast. As it was always a great place for dinner we took them there so disappointed and a little embarrassed after telling them how good it was. So I will be looking for a new Chinese Restaurant.

Ordered and did not deliver what was ordered. Essentially told us we were lying - sure, we are so invested for more of their bland food. Provided them the liteny of evidence that contradicted each of their sham storied, and quickly changed their storey. So slack that they refused to complete the order and gave us a credit - what rubbish, as if we would ever use this resturant again. Oily food, low quality.

Six years ago I gave Dragon Garden 4 stars. Been going there for years. New owners and I will NEVER go back. Fried rice should be renamed Deep fried rice, so oily virtually inedible. Gone is the shredded chicken, char sui pork, fresh spring onions and peas. Got oil, rice and a few dodgy looking shrimp and the odd bamboo shoots. Lemon chicken..ugh..used to be beautiful golden, crispy. Now obviously cooked in old oil. Soggy, flaccid and revolting. Such a shame to see a much loved restaurant fail.

Ordered 3 dishes through Uber Eats and was very disappointed with the quality and quantity. Both main dishes lacked flavour and the beef and cashew dish was 90% celery. It was not worth the $60.

Great food, fantastic service and reasonably priced. Family friendly as well.

Very good meals and service for take away or dinning in. I'll be back.

Best staff and food!

I gave a 5 BUT I'm not happy that theres no menu advertised. The food and the service is great. I wouldn't go anywhere else for Asian food in Ipswich.

I’m obsessed with the Szechuan beef here, I drive half an hour from my place to pick it up every fortnight. I recommend going on a week day as it does get busy over the weekends. 10/10 worth the drive.

This restaurant has been a family favourite for years. Good quality takeaway Chinese. I always get the combination birdsnest and enjoy the crispy shell for my combo of meat. Deep fried ice cream is also good when wanting a sweet treat.

After seeing reviews elsewhere and hearing good things I have tried this place a few times but unfortunately they have never hit the mark. Basic food and the staff don’t seem to be to happy to be there. Not great but not poor .. just average

I have been eating here for many many years. Dragon Gardens has the most amazing food and the service is always great. Great atmosphere and they serve the best deep fried ice cream. YUM YUM YUM!

I've been coming to Dragon Garden on and off for years, as it's always been a go to place for dinner with family and friends in Ipswich. For the most part we've had good meals and experiences. Our last meal here on thursday night won't stop us from coming back, but neither was it as good as it we've had here in the past.

Both of our meat meals came coated in what we determined to the rice flour, which didn't seem to do anything for either dish except to help them fry cripsy and give the sauces something to soak into. For the Pork Spare Ribs it made sense, but for the Szechuan Beef seemed unnecessary. In all both dishes were good, but nothing to write home about. No complaints against the Special Fried Rice.

The menu covers everything you expect in a good chinese restaurant and the staff are friendly. There was a bit of confusion on our part where a sign at the front desk indicated it was cash only while there was an eftpos POS machine sitting next to it, which ended with us being able to pay with the credit account on our card. I plan to come back sometime, I only hope that we have a better experience next time.
I visited Dragon Garden chinese restaurant for the 3rd time last week .Went to buy and pay cash for some drinks at there bar and was told they had no change in till?? and then had to wait .We orderd a banquet for five people which cost $26.00 each and recieved standard plate size for each course which had to be shared between 5 people .I queried the amount of food per course ,as it wasnt any where near feeding five people and was told by waitres they usually pile extra food on the plates to cover this.We asked to see the Manager Simon who didnt bother to show up .and we continued to recieve standard portions per course thru out the meal .We changed fried ice cream for banana fritter for one course and still got Fried ice cream!!!Wont be back again ,Manager doesnt seem to care!
Have eaten from here a few times and their takeaway was horrible, tasted burnt and dry. Complained to them about it and all they could manage was a sorry about that. I wasn't after free food but at least they could have been a little more sincere in their apology.

Great Chinese food, best around the area! Been going here for years. This place was voted in the top 10 restaurants (only Chinese restaurant) of the Ipswich region in the QT Times by the community last year, so its very concerning with the recent amount of 1 star reviews made by new accounts. There has been lots of new restaurants opening around the area recently so it would not be surprising if they are simply competitor reviews.

We also ate here for the first time last week at the Dragon Garden Chinese Family Restaurant.
I personally and our companions do not eat at this place again. The Ironic thing is that we live practically around the corner. The food was terrible (every single order) tasteless and partly pre-cooked nothing fresh. I personally had a pork dish the meat was tough like from an old boar properly pre cooked the day before !! Whatever you do, you can do better! If you're in Ipswich ... it's worth to make a trip to Sunnybank (Brisbane's true Chinatown) The Marketplace is full of fantastic Asian Restaurants. Good luck...definitely not here!

We ate here for the first time tonight & personally would not eat at this place again. We ordered honey chicken, fried rice, sweet & sour pork & sliced beef with cashew. The food was bland & tasteless especially the honey chicken. The sliced beef with cashew contained no cashews & half a container full of celery, very disappointing. Whilst the service was quite fast, meals took 15 minutes, staff are friendly, we did not enjoy our meal here as there was no flavour, we won't be back again.

Foods are terrible. Not Oriental Chinese food. Ordered satay chicken, szechuan beef, sweet and sour pork, fried rice. For satay chicken, you can hardly see the chicken meat, all of them are onions, the satay sauce is horrible, watery, no flavour. Szechuan beef also has more onions than beef, very less sauce, not spicy at all. They deep fried the sweet and sour too burn, dark brown colour, smelt burn, the sweet and sour has too much red colour, strong vinegar smelt but not sour at all, sugar still reside at the bottom of food. Fried rice is off, smelt off, taste off. Not fresh. The lady on the counter is rude.

27th October we just bought Duck.. I tasted it.. Terrible! Horrible! The worst Duck I have ever eaten. It even smelt horrible. I called my wife to the table, she has been eating Duck all her life so as soon as she smelt it she put the Duck back in the container and we took it back. It tasted off big time. If I am sick tonight I will call a 24 hour doctor and by law the Health mob will investigate.. They would not give us our money back since we had eaten a bit.. What do they expect, how do we know its off.. We tasted it.. 95% was back in the container. So we were given fried rice a replacement, very expensive fried rice since that is heaps cheaper than Duck.. We visited that same restaurant a few weeks ago and had the same Duck menu.. It tasted fine. We will not be going back.. I kept a small sample, its in the fridge now. I am not stupid. If its contaminated Duck I will give the small sample to the Health mob..

Visited on a Friday night and was greeted with friendly service. Restaurant is clean and has an intimate feel to the Chinese themed decor. Very good prices and full service bar including spirits available and desserts too. Definitely a hidden gem. Will be back!

We have been dining at Dragon Garden for over 20 years! They offer consistently good Chinese Food at a good price in clean and well kept Chinese type environment! Staff are always friendly and efficient and regardless of whether we have been dining as a twosome or with 20+ friends for a Chinese Banquet we have always been delighted with our meals at Dragon Garden, Ipswich.

Tonight was our fist time getting Takeaways from here. It will not be the last. Tasty generous meals. Service was fast and the lady serving was a delight. Well worth it.

I have been dining at this restaurant with my family for many years and it never fails to impress. My personal favourite is the Szechuan Beef, but be aware that this dish does take a bit longer to wait as the preparation is difficult. That, and due to its popularity so get in early as it always sells out during later hours.

One of the nicest tasting food I have had, Chinese wise. I went here after hearing nice things about it and had multiple recommendations from friends. I have been a few times and the wait is fast, staff is always nice. Weekends can take a little longer but the place is absoloutely packed!

The best Chinese restaurant I've been to. My family has been eating here for over 15 years and have never found another just as good. Always fast service, good prices, flexible recipes and delicious food.

Decided to have dinner here on Wednesday night and wasn't disappointed. My two young daughters ate every bite (which is a miracle)! Will be coming back.

Earlier in the year when I visited Sydney, a good friend took me to a Chinese restaurant in Granville. She would simply not shut up about the lemon chicken. I just smiled and nodded as we drove there, internalising the "you so crazy" feels I was having.

BUT, then I ate the damn lemon chicken and jumped on her crazy train. THE LEMON CHICKEN IS SO FRIGGEN AMAZING.

Back in Brisbane I would often dream about the lemon chicken, lamenting the lack of said dish in Brisbane.

Last night one of my best friends changed my life forever. We were discussing cuisines and chinese food and she started telling me about a chinese place at Ipswich that sells the best "white people" chinese food, along with a delicious lemon chicken she can't get enough of and always buys extra for lunch at work. WHY HAVE YOU BEEN HOLDING OUT ON ME? I SHOULD DEMOTE YOU TO NOT SO BEST FRIEND~!

I told her that we would have to go there together soon. Maybe in a couple of weeks when she gets back from a trip.

I LIED. I went there today (12 hours after our conversation). THAT CHICKEN~! It's the same (or similar, BUT BETTER), it is delicious. I am now chain-eating fat burners because I may have over done it (not possible) with the lemon chicken.

The lemon chicken is really tender and crispy and the sauce is dreamy. Be warned, if you don't like chinese food (you madman) then don't try it. It really punches you in the face with the lemon. If you LOVE chinese food, especially lemon chicken (I love you too man) then go there NOW~!

Terrible dinner for two.. My wontons were overcooked, so they were a little hard and dry and very salty. The sweet and sour chicken was average, not enough vegetables. The menu was heavy on the deep fried food and quite limited. The place was fairly clean but the carpets were all worn out and repaired with tape. We were seated adjacent to the open kitchen doorway, where staff could be seen and heard clanging around with cutlery and utensils as well as laughing and talking loudly. This was annoying and distracting. When the wait person cleaned the vacated table next to us, the spray mist from their spray bottle of cleaning product drifted all over us and was really gag inducing. The place was pretty cheap and that was reflected in service, quality and price. We got out as quickly as we could and will not return.

Family Dinner. It was my first time at this restaurant. Food tasted really great and delicious. Love their garlic prawns, steak and fried rice. Had the most delicious dinner.

Foreign Regular. I have friends that live nearby this restaurant and when ever I visit from overseas, accommodation is provided by my lovely friends. I visit three to four times a year and as this restaurant is so close, I always dine here at least two times each trip! It is some of the best Chinese food you will taste. You can tell the chef uses traditional recipes and methods, akin to those you would find from its native origins. Beautiful!

Lovely Mother's Day dinner. Dined in here for Mother's Day. Despite being absolutely packed, the night was still very enjoyable. The wait was a bit long but we all understood the reasoning. Will visit again!
Stormiesummer2007
Poor service= destroyed mothers day dinner. We waited 3hrs for our food on mothers day...only to be informed it was going to be 1/2hr more.Left without having any food..Thank you for destroying 3 mothers-mothers day dinners...Very poor services and very poor management..Waiters where the best part-lovely and welcoming..as for management-no customer service.

Bad experience!!. Tonight me and my partner made the mistake of ordering food from this place. As we ordered our food I was telling the lady taking our order that a have a severe allergy to seafood. The lady assured me that I wouldn't have a problem. She wrote in large bold letters SEAFOOD ALLERGY up the top of the order.

We got our food, walked to our car and decided to have a spring roll on the way home. As I bit into the spring roll I noticed something in the bottom of the bag. PRAWN CHIPS !!! Spitting the food out I reached for a bottle of soft drink rinsing my mouth out. I felt alright so I decided to go back with the food and show them the "mistake" they had made. The lady that took my order was so apologetic for the chefs mistake. She was a bit upset that he didn't notice. She went and got him so I could have a chat.

I kept my cool (even though I was quite agitated) and waited patiently for him. As he approached me he had a smug look on his face. I told him what had happened and his reply in his words were "they only contain a small amount of prawn." A small amount of prawn is enough to kill someone like me !!!

I explained to him that seafood is potentially fatal for me to consume. He then argued that they do not contain seafood even though he previously stated that they only contain a small amount.

He gave me fresh spring rolls and a free bottle of coke and I left.

I returned home still angry and called my niece to tell her my story. She then called the place to have a chat. She explained that I am quite sick with cancer and that this was unexceptable. The told her that he gave me a free coke for compensation. A coke !!! For potentially taking my life...!!
All I wanted was an apology for his "mistake" but he couldn't justify a reason to give me one.
Needless to say... I will never eat at this place again and I urge anyone that has any food allergies to check their food before they consume it.

Black listed what a joke. I dont need to try and get free food. I have plenty of money thanks. As explained to you on the phone when I get take away honey chicken from anywhere else I get home and its nice and crispy with the sauce or honey already on it. And no I wouldnt come back to your store With your attitude. It wasnt slander it was a true . if the cap fits wear it.

-----15 Mar, 2015-----

Poor quality. Order #63. Worst honey chicken I have ever tried. Made when ever and thrown in the microwave. Rang up and got a lame assed excuse. Zero star rating from me. Lost my business.

Wasn't the best - wasn't the worst. It wasn't disgusting but it wasn't amazing. The meat in the cheowmein was pretty dry IMO and the fried rice was a little bland. Had heard good reviews about the place so thought we'd give it a go. Probably won't return; but we are new to the area so are trying out all the local ones around here to see which we most prefer.

Love the Fried Rice. More ingredients than the usual 'bought' fried rice. Great flavour & great value for $7.50.

Not Kid Friendly As Advertised. Just noticed the "kid friendly" statement....
My children are praised for their exceptional manners but the twice my 6 yr old was told off for wanting to stand up after waiting 45 minutes for a soup, honey chicken and rice in a half empty store.

-----14 Feb, 2015-----

Never again. Just not nice. A take away birds nest that is supposed to be a mixture of vegetables and combination fish and meat- had uncooked solid carrots and cauliflower only. The meats were extremely fatty and trash I wouldn't give my cat let alone my children who attempted to eat the meal with me. Anybody can make better fried rice than this restaurant does...
Tried different dishes there another time and it was just as bad. Go somewhere else.

-----14 Feb, 2015-----

Don't bother.... Expensive and just not nice. Not a happy customer!. We ordered 2 x special fried rice with no prawns as I am allergic, get home to find both cold and full of prawns! I call to inform the management we have a dinner we can not eat the response was " no one wrote it down" and was then hung up on, never have I had such awful service! Won't be going there again!

Best Chinese in Ipswich. I have been dining at the Dragon Garden Chinese restaurant for over 20 years now.
The food is always fantastic. The banquets are best value for money, as are the takeaway packs.
The staff are always friendly.
Child friendly, and able to cater for large family gatherings if you book.
Gangster
Food was good, shame about the size of the meals, small servings, we left the restaurant still hungry after a 3 course meal, service was pretty lousy as well had to keep asking for service, also make sure you take cash because they wont accept eftpos which is crazy
Jen Haylock
Amazing food. Pity about the service. I've eaten there several times and always end up annoyed at the slow service and general lack of good serving skills. That being said the food is insanely good and very affordable. I reccommend takeout rather than dining in but you will never be disappointed if you do.
Shay74
Best chinese. Honestly the best and cheapest chinese we have found , amazing food and service..

Had a lovely dinner tonight with a large group. Food was nice, prices very fair. Lemon chicken and plum pork were standouts among the dishes served in the $22 banquet.
Our glasses were a bit unclean, service was very slow, but the waitataff were friendly and helpful.
Some room for improvement, but for an outer suburb restaurant in Ipswich, I was fairly content, and will probably be back

Great!!!. Great Food!! Family Packs are good value!!!

Fantastic Chinese food! I have been dining here for the last 10 years and the food is always delicious, consistent and very affordable. The satay chicken and fried rice are my favourites. The staff are very friendly and the restaurant is super clean unlike some of the Chinese restaurants in the valley. Be sure to make a booking as this place is super popular.
