Review The Wooden Door - Irymple

Beautiful setting, even better food. We came here for lunch and enjoyed every aspect of our meal. The coffees were decent, the food was excellent. Thank you !

Great service, great food, plenty to look at and admire. It's nice to see some old charm in the crafting of this restaurant. Wooden doors featured throughout and well crafted hutches. Indoor and outdoor seating depending on the weather and what you prefer.

Amazing food! You are spoilt for choice with the menu and each dish was fantastic, huge and everything you imagined it would be. Coffee was good, not amazing but you have nothing to complain about. The actual spot has a great atmosphere and is beautifully decorated and green. You will not regret coming here.

Good place to stop in and have lunch. I did think it was too cramped and had to keep standing up to let people past me which was very annoying. Stools were tiny and not comfortable. Some of the tiny treats were very dry which wasn't enjoyable. Presentation of food was lovely though.

What a sight to the eyes! Gourgeous interior with so many items to catch the eye. A friendly owner greets with a smile and is only to happy to chat!

Absolutely yummy matcha panko crumbed tofu and satay burger. Comes with sweet potato chips. Really generous servings. Cold pressed juices are really yummy too. Great price and the staff are lovely. A lot of vegan options on the menu. I will definitely be back.

Food was really nice, but, if anything, the scenery us easily the best of any cafe I've ever been to. So relaxing! The guy who owns it, who also served us, is the friendliest dude ever, he's funny, fun and veru charming. Great place, do recommend.

Terrible customer service, doesn’t pay staff. Very abusive to people online! Just terrible. Don't go here

Love the decor and the atmosphere but the food was way too off balance from flavour perspective. Need to reduce the acidity, too sour and was a torture to finish it off and I just can’t. What ashamed. I’ll be back next time to try another dish because I turn this down ..

Absolutely beautifully decorated restaurant, friendly staff, amazing food. Nothing to fault. Gorgeous plants to look at in every corner in the inside seating as well as the outside area. I had the cauliflower and chicken salad and it was so scrumptious and unique.

We went to The Wooden Door for breakfast this morning after a big night out last night. The interior and outdoor setting of the cafe is beautifully designed. We sat outside under the umbrellas in the fresh air. We got coffees to start and ordered the breakfast wrap, eggs benedict and the smoothie bowl. All three servings were huge and absolutely delicious!! Could easily go halves in something if you have smaller appetite. The service was great. We are from Melbourne and believe this cafe would give some of the Melbourne cafes a run for their money! We will certainly come back when we are in Mildura next. Emily, Paul & Rob.

Decor, setting, staff & food all fantastic. Lattes were great, eggs in hell delicious, breakie burrito was good but missing some flavour. Would highly recommend when in Mildura

Coffee is average, staff although forcefully friendly are not genuine and you feel like a burden on them, outside are has fans but needs more ventilation.... food was okay... will try other places before rushing back

The food is great here but the overall experience could be so much better. The knock on this place is the wait staff. Any more than a handful of customers and the wheels come off with confusion reigning supreme. We come here regularly and one visit can be great and the next dreadful with most of the waitstaff having to be led by the nose. Having to chase them for menus, to take your order and then watching them deliver to the wrong table gets old quickly. The owner is however all over it and does his best to fill the substantial gaps. This place has all the ingredients to be super and I hope that with the right people on board it can reach its full potential.

If you have a spare morning to wait an hour for a coffee that wasn't what you ordered, and then another hour to wait for meals to even start cooking then the Wooden Door is for you! What an absolute joke. The terrible quality of service on a day where both the inside and outside seating areas aren't busy left a bitter taste. This is obviously a common occurrence seeing as the Review option has been disabled.<br/><br/>We arrived at 9.45 and it was about half an hour before we were approached for drink orders. Half an hour later they arrived one by one. My long black order came out as a cappuccino (which is weird because I'm lactose intolerant and would never order milk in my coffee 😕). My mother in law eventually had to go and wait for it inside. Our food orders never arrived, everyone who ordered before us had their food come out first. Upon talking to the table next to us they hadn't received the order they'd place. Lots of sides they had ordered that had never arrived. By 11.45 we were finally approached by a woman who seemed confused that we hadn't been served - but her confusion never eventuated into something we could eat. <br/><br/>This being said, I don't feel like it was like the waitresses fault. They were young and still learning the menu. We received no apologies from anyone in management or offers of free coffees. Management obviously need to work on better training their staff and providing them with better working conditions. Possibly something to think about before you tear those young girls a new one. I couldn't even use the bathroom - maybe that's because your staff is hiding in there afraid of your retribution...<br/><br/>By 11.50 we had given up and walked out. I wouldn't even consider paying for the drinks we had ordered. To add insult to injury we thought coming here would be a nice way to celebrate my sister in laws birthday with a nice family breakfast. Now we're off trying to find somewhere to have a nice family lunch instead seeing as it's now past breakfast.<br/><br/>In summary, if you enjoy sitting outside for two hours in 38 degree heat with what feels like 100% humidity to receive nothing then definitely come here. Otherwise steer clear!

AHHMAZEBALLS!!  I'm from Melbourne, and have tried all the best burger joints (huxtaburger, bettys, mr burger etc) and The Wooden Door New York Cheeseburger is hands down the most delicious burger I've ever had.  The patties just melted in your mouth, and had the perfect amount of cheese and a beautiful brioche bun.  Great size too - not too small as some of them can be. Utter PERFECTION.  I always have amazing food here when I come to Mildura - a real credit to the town.  Keep up the great work Wooden Door!!  (and please don't take the cheese burger off the menu so I can keep having them on my future visits!!

Had the polenta and haloumi which was nice. Very large portion of food. Nice atmosphere inside. Quirky decorations. Also grabbed a raw cake to takeway on my way home to Melbourne

Only eat at this restaurant if you enjoy being abused. We had a few issues with our food and service so I let them know after our visit. To my surprised the owner or manager sent me a private message on facebook and started abusing me and even degraded the job I had as a teenager.<br/><br/>One of the waitresses asked "Are you ready to order as I need your menus for another table?" We thought this was rather funny as on their facebook page they state "Killer Service"<br/><br/>The food came out fairly quick, our issue was with the quality and freshness of the food. The pork bun had a "pork puff" inside, it was like a super stale prawn cracker, it was impossible to break let alone chew, we couldn't even break it with a knife. My Quesadilla was also black on the bottom from being burnt.<br/><br/>After the manager abused me an other staff member started sending me private messages just asking which service staff serviced us, as they shouldn't have asked for our menus. We didn't even see this as a real issue more funny than anything. Our issue was with the food, but I only got abuse and no apology. A simple apology goes a long way.

Best place in and around Mildura for breakfast or lunch. Great service, high quality and interesting food. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Went to the wooden door on sunday with a friend. The service was very ordinary, we sat down and no one came to get our order or give us menus. When we did manage to get someones attention (after we had collected menus), we ordered drinks and cake. The drinks were okay but overpriced for what we got. The cakes were very dry and not nice at all. They tasted like they had been sitting in the window for a week or two. Wouldn't recommend this place unfortunately, even though I used to love it.

I had the Lamb Kofta Salad (at the Mildura City location on Eight Street). It had lots of different flavours and was very filling. You can tell someone has put in a lot of effort creating this dish. It was delicious! I'd highly recommend the salad! The fresh juice was also perfect in the warm weather. Overall it was a nicely designed setting and the staff were polite and friendly. I went back twice in one week!

Cafe arrives in Mordern Mildura. Fresh interior, nice people and delicious food. They bring a little fitzroy to Mildura with good coffee and a modern selection of food. Good for coffees, snaks and brunch. Taco duo

Foodies step this way!. I ordered the pea and dill corn fritters and a coffee with the Wooden Door relish on the side. The fritters were light and crispy and well seasoned, the eggs were silky and not overdone. Served with avocado and a lemon dill cream and a sprinkling of dukkah. Amazing texture and flavour explosion for breakfast. Thanks so much!

Awful experience.. I am a local, who has stupidly ignored her gut feeling on this place since its opening. I have been to this establishment on several occasions, chosen to ignore some incredibly horrible things that have fallen from the owners mouths and ignore the many things said about this restaurant from other locals. However, today's experience will see me never setting foot into The Wooden Door again. <br/><br/>I organised a lovely lunch with my grandma, mum and sister (something we never do!). Upon arrival, we were 'greeted' by a waitress who appeared not to be able to smile. We were then given a bottle of water, but no glasses. I requested glasses three times and finally was given some fifty minutes after our arrival. I did get up to just get glasses from the water dispenser, but there were only two sitting there (both were unclean, with lipstick stains). Furthermore, we were not served for over thirty minutes and even had the same waitress bring out food thinking it was for our table. We hadn't even ordered at this stage and clearly had been 'forgotten' about until the wrong food was brought to us.<br/><br/>Then I had issues with ordering from the menu. I'm over eight months pregnant and couldn't stomach the items on the menu, but am also gluten and lactose free. This proved an issue when ordering and I kindly asked if the chef would be able to just toast me some of their gluten-free bread and serve with some avocado. The waitress said their breakfast menu was over. I responded suggesting I was aware of this, but was wondering if the chef wouldn't mind just toasting some toast, so I could eat with my family and be part of the experience. The waitress finally said she would at least go and ask the chef.<br/><br/>The waitress returned twenty minutes later with the dishes for the rest of the table, stating (as she placed the dishes in front of the others) that the chef said he couldn't toast that bread for me. Whilst I understand the implications and challenges a change of menu brings, I wasn't aware that toasting some toast was a huge issue. I've eaten in many places in the city and this town that bend over backwards to accommodate, where possible; I've always had chefs willingly toast me some bread if that is what has been required. Also, the menu clearly states that they do not do any menu changes on the weekend; today is a Thursday.<br/><br/>My family thoroughly enjoyed there meals, but were disappointed that I was sitting there feeling yukky. More often than not, you cannot fault the food at this establishment, as they do have wonderful meals.<br/><br/>Upon payment, the owner asked my mum if she was happy with the meals. Mum kindly responded with, 'yes, they were beautiful. However, I am a little disappointed that my 8.5 month pregnant daughter couldn't be accommodated, as the chef couldn't toast some toast for her'. He gave quite the 'smile' and sarcastically said 'have a lovely day'. We moved further down in the shop, as we were waiting for my grandmother to return. The owner proceeded to look at my mum and give her quite the filthy looks. Mum went up to him and quite hurt, said, 'excuse me sir, I can see you'. He sprung from behind the counter and came towards us saying how rude we were and we were horrible to him just now; he didn't appreciate the way we spoke to him! He was flapping his arms and speaking on top note. I stepped in at this point, stating this was ridiculous and that he was out of line; that we were just waiting for our grandmother and we would be leaving. We all left shaking and in complete shock at what was meant to be a really nice lunch.<br/><br/>I now believe the negative things I've heard about this establishment and its management; I can fully appreciate why many locals so openly say they will not support this restaurant. We will never be returning and supporting such negative people; what an awful thing for a local to say?!

Interesting place that is quite unexpected. We met some friends here on our way back to Melbourne. They had recommended the place so I was (pleasantly) surprised to find a lovely courtyard out the back of a dinky homewares shop. The coffee was really good - very creamy latte.<br/>Once our friend arrived we ordered from the breakfast menu. It definitely was not your usual 'big breakfast' kind of deal - and I loved that the chefs took care to source and acknowledge local producers (for some reason this is hard to find in mildy ... Ironic that some of the best produce in Australia is grown here ... Local supermarkets I'm looking at you!) DB had scrambled eggs and bacon, our friends had the fritters and a breakfast burger and I had the kale and poached eggs. Our friends loved their dishes (especially the burger ... Great bun) and DB liked his scrambled (although one rather of bacon is a little mean for an extra). My kale eggs were delightful - fresh, meaty kale was sautéed with plenty of butter and the goats cheese was tart and lovely. One (small) piece of feedback would be to poach the egg a little longer ... It was just cooked and very soft ... But a very slight negative in an otherwise beautiful breakfast dish.<br/>Loved the staff and warm reception and the aesthetic of the courtyard was so lovely and served as a lovely backdrop to a long overdue catch up - would go back for sure

What A Gem!. Yummiest breakfast, had a great menu to select from. I had poached eggs, bacon and mushrooms. Sounds pretty boring right? Wrong! It was so tasty, fresh and we'll presented. Poached eggs cooked perfectly, the Ciabatta bread think, crusty perfect to soak up all the eggs goodness. <br/><br/>All washed down with a Late, PERFECTO. <br/><br/>You don't come here to eat fast n run, you come to enjoy, endulge, and catch up with friends. Take your time you will not be disappointed.

Bad coffee :(. Have been here quite a few times but the coffee has been really dissapointing (I think it is a not so nice brand of soy milk that it is used) and it is a real let down as there are some good qualities to this place and I did enjoy going there :(

Unfriendly staff. not very welcoming. Food very average. Cute shop but all very cramped. I wouldnt rush back.

Great service and some lovely people working here. Amazing presentation and a great menu. I really wanted to love my meal but it was just average. I had arancini balls which were standard, and my boyfriend had the chicken burger which was not very nice. We still really enjoyed our experience here nonetheless.

Extremely pleasant vibe, good coffee and I liked how helpful the owner was to a server on her first day.

Horrible customer service. Sat there for nearly two hours for food and people that arrived after us have gotten food before us. Seriously not happy. Do not recommend to anyone.

Great cafe just outside of mildura 100% worth the drive. Quirky homewares in front of cafe with great outdoor area to sit. Menu is fresh and interesting, plenty of options that aren't just 5 different variations of eggs. Coffee was well made. I had the waffles which had delicious fresh berries, really enjoyable. Well definitely be back!

An absolute gem hidden away a bit from mildura, great food made me feel like i was eating out in melbourne!

If you're anywhere in the area you MUST go here! I had the breakfast burrito, which was friendiy recommended to me, and it was seriously amazing. It's hidden down the back of a shop with lovely homewares and homemade jams. You can read magazines and sit on cute chairs with a nice rustic interior. My boyfriend had a simple bacon&egg muffin (with aioli sauce), and despite its simplicity said it was excellent. 10/10!

Just a short drive from Mildura this is a gem. Lovely outside sitting areas and a menu that is a bit different. Finish it off with a browse in the shop.
