I had the most amazing experience here yesterday. As a coeliac it was mind blowing to have such delicious food and so many options. The charcoal bread in particular was absolutely amazing. The service was wonderful and I felt so looked after nd understood. The most joyful eating experience so far in the last few years. Thank you caffe strada.
Such a love cafe to eat a yummy breaky or lunch in. It is such a pleasure to visit. I am so grateful for the safe gluten free environment that caffe strada provides me.
The food and coffee were good (although they might want to look up the definition of a long mac as that's what my partner ordered but not what they got). Service was also good. Some prices a little steep (eg smashed ago) and the burger serving size was a little small. Overall though it was lovely to eat at a place where I knew I could not get "glutened". The waffles were delicious.
Very nice and friendly staff and fresh yummy food, I feel so nice and relax to be here. Will be my favourite cafe to come and chill in the morning 😋
The coffee at this cafe is the best in Ivanhoe! The staff are always super friendly. The bread is delicious and of course, GF! The courtyard out the back is super cute.
As a fellow coeliac, I finally found a place where they actually understand cross contamination, the difference between a coeliac and a "gluten intolerant" person, the importance of bread, pastries and other delicious goods and trying to perfect that! I was welcomed with free samples of bread and cake and I bought so many things from the menu! There were a couple of items that could have been sliiiightly better but for the most part, I was just so happy to be there and to be catered for properly. Great service and food!
I very much enjoyed my design-your-own breakfast. I personally really liked the big mushrooms, although I expected the smaller ones you usually see in cafe breakfast dishes. The dish looked pretty with a pansy. Couldn't finish as I was full but it was delicious. I've had better mochas though.
Faultless. Quite possibly my new favourite place in Ivanhoe. Great ambience, friendly waitresses and extremely tasty food.
I had a banana smoothie and the smashed avocado (without the kale) - the bread was incredible. Dense yet light, packed full of flavour. As healthy as it looks.
Keep up the good work.
We had the slow cooked pork shoulder roll, strada pie and sausage roll and it was all brilliant. Great flavours and great staff. Will be back for sure.
This place is awesome if you're gluten free. They made their own bread. It's light and doesn't have the after taste most gluten free breads have.
A coeliacs dream come true, lovely gf bread, best I've had to date. Good coffee, lovely service and the cakes specifically the eclairs are a must. A bit cramped though and you should probably expect a wait but the staff are super nice.
I really like the food here. While it's overpriced in my opinion, you are in Ivanhoe so I suppose that's to be expected. We've always had great service and good coffee. It's not strong but it's very smooth and well made. The GF food options (EVERYTHING) are very good. I like the burgers. They are fresh and juicy. In many cases when places go all GF the food isn't so good. It often tastes gritty and stiff. This cafe doesn't have that issue. Everything is well cooked and full of flavour. The only down side is the atmosphere. I think this cafe is more suited to Fitzroy 7 years ago. It feels like they couldn't afford nice furniture so they went to all the back alleys of Richmond and took whatever chairs and tables they could find lying around. The decor really misses the mark for me but at the end of the day that's just a personal thing I suppose. It's definitely one of the more consistent establishments on the Ivanhoe strip.
Thank god for Caffe Strada. I eat the bread from this place most days - it is the best gluten free bread around I think. Wish they would open up more cafes around Melbourne! :)
Accidentally walked in to this amazing place. It has kinda vintage granny house ambiance. Staff polite & attentive. Perfectly cooked chips. Pull pork burger had caramelized eggplant gives the sweetness & that umami taste, perfectly marry with the creamy & fattiness of the bullseye egg harmonize well in a homemade bun. Nice creamy coffee & you can add palm sugar(high quality). Eclair was creamy & rich. All nicely presented. Only negativity is that the mango smoothie hardly had any mango in it so lacking that mango flavor despite they call it Mango madness or something. Overall rating considering all aforementioned detail gives an overall rating of 3.8*
Gluten free heaven, and a strong presence on the strip. Current favourite menu items: The Smash (avo), Pork on GF turkish, Tropical trio juice.
Finally tried this gluten free cafe today. I had the Harista baked eggs, which were lovely. The turkish bread was amazing and you couldn't tell it was GF. The coffee was good too.
I also got a special free load of teff bread. It was delicious and looking forward to returning time and time again for my GF fixes.
Staff were attentive and friendly.
Went there recently for a light lunch. Loved the coffee. The bread is made in house and so delicious! Allergy friendly cafe with good service.
A 100% gluten free Caffe that served some really lovely food. We stopped in on a Thursday for lunch and despite the packed seats our food was reasonably prompt, piping hot and good quality. The Jamaican BBQ Chicken Burger had a delicious bun and the serving of chips that accompanied it was a good size. We arrived at around 12 and left half about half an hour later with full satisfied tummies.
Just a quick THANK YOU for extra delicious loaf of Quinoa bread today. It's always good, today was extra special for some reason. I'm struggling to talk myself out of a fourth slice! Thank you for all the great work you do to keep those who struggle with wheat happy and healthy.
Ok wow that's gluten free Turkish bread??!!!
Being diagnosed celiac recently I've been on the hunt for bread and drove all the way out here and grabbed some bread and Turkish bead from the bakery bit - all I can say is it's almost the same as the gluten version!
Never had a meal - just for the bakery but the food looked great too. Got told Little Hen in Balaclava has the bread so that's a lot closer! If you are gluten free/celiac this place is for you!
Cute little place to have breakfast! Coffee was great and hot which is a nice change from most cafes these days!
My eggs Benedict was also delish!
Definitely would recommend!
I have never been to the cafe but I am your biggest GF baked goods fan! Â Your bread, rolls, flat bread etc are delicious. Â I've even had to double check the package to make sure it was GF!
Love this place! Has a nice atmoshphere, friendly staff and varied menu. Had the banana ricotta pancakes on our first visit which were delicious, this week I tried the baked pumpkin and capsicum stuffed mushroom with a side of bacon ... YUMMO!
I've been here a number of times, and the coffee has been a bit hit and miss in the past - particularly if you're ordering take away. I've had a number of lukewarm coffees from here, unfortunately.
However, if you're eating in, coffee is good, and food is also nice. The food is a little more expensive than what I'd like ($4 for a plain, small cupcake?), but otherwise, yummy!
Service is typically good, and attentive. The place is in a nice location, and the staff are friendly.
It's a tiny bit more expensive than other places in the area but that's probably because they use great quality ingredients. Every dish is tasty here and it's obvious they pay a bit extra for organic fresh ingredients. I'd rather pay a bit more but really enjoy the food.
Very good gluten free food - you'll love the bread. Coffee is good also. A bit expensive for what you get - I ordered a side of hallumi for $4.50 and got a single, tiny slice of cheese!
Great Places To Visit - Caffe Strada - 197 Upper Heidelberg Rd, Ivanhoe, Vic.. Looking for that something a bit special? Tired of the same old cafe food. Want somewhere that cooks everything on the premises and specializes in Gluten Free Breads and foods? Well, look no further than Caffe Strada in Ivanhoe. The food is simply mouthwatering, delicious, nutritious, gluten free and if you want dairy free. The coffee will have you smiling and going mmmmmmmmm. The menu is substantial and varies often so you can keep going back and not get bored with the same old menu. Open 7 days a week, breakfast and lunches. They also do catering for that special occasion. I've hired their catering services for my father's 80th birthday party. Cannot recommend them highly enough. Absolute pleasure to do business with and the food for the party, well, let's just say it was the most talked about item on the day! Everyone commented on how beautiful everything looked and tasted.
I recently had a delicious lunch of Semi-dried tomato and corn fritters. Doesn't sound much, but take a look at the photo below. It was so beautifully presented I couldn't wait to taste it. The taste was AMAZING and I enjoyed every mouthful.
Did I mention they bake their own specialty Gluten Free Breads? Well if you want a loaf to take home, you will have to get in quick, they sell out fast!
Lukewarm Feelings. I love the black rice pudding, and it's got a pretty decent atmosphere, but nothing about caffe strada really stands out. They could try spicing up their menu a little honestly. Still, other than being fairly crowded most of the time it's got a decent atmosphere. Probably the best choice if you have to eat in Ivanhoe.
Innovative food. I had stuffed mushrooms with baked Halloumi cheese. The dish looked great and was flavoursome. My husband was a little disappointed because they didn't have beef burgers but he enjoyed his chicken burger. My mother in-law was also happy with her frittata. They had good selection of desert. However, wait staff weren't very attentive. They forgot my drink order, even though the cafe wasn't busy.
A winner, everytime! I come.... A winner, everytime!
I come here often and order something different every time... I'm yet to be disappointed!
The standouts are the baked mushrooms, the smashed avocado with baked eggs, the chicken dukkah salad and the Jamaican BBQ chicken burger!
Great spot! My girlfriend and I had coffee here and shared a shredded pork roll, both were really good and affordable! Will be back :)
Consistently Good. Went for brunch this morning, Strada was busy as usual - we were lucky that another couple was just finishing their coffee else the only free tables were outside. Service was prompt. Coffee - Timorese - was good, tea-drop teabags are used for tea. Inside was noisy, conversation difficult. Food was good - my companion enjoyed his scrambled eggs, bacon and hash browns, I enjoyed hollandaise eggs with salmon, plus tomato and mushrooms extra. I really love the Hollandaise sauce here, creamy and tart. Only comment I can make - I would prefer the poached eggs soft, yolks are invariably set almost through, (guess I should have specified) Recommended, will be back.
Brilliant bakery cafe. Caffe Strada is my all-time-favourite bakery and cafe - and I have been gluten-free for nearly 30 years.
The bread is exceptionally good and they keep innovating so there's a surprising variety of loaves, buns, etc. The meals and cakes are delicious too. I really like their coffees and they are one of the very few places I've come across that offer rice milk (which makes a much smoother latte than soymilk anyway IMHO). The staff are helpful, and the service is efficient in a nice friendly way.
When I run workshops attended by gluten-free people, I order morning tea muffins and lunch sandwiches/rolls from Caffe Strada. The food is so good that the "normal" people (haha) don't realise that it's gluten-free. Never thought I'd see the day!
First time visitor today and will be back for more of the delicious coffee and food! Staff were great, they were all over it.
Great gf bakery and for breaky. We come over for their gf bread and treats which have always been great but recently had breakfast which was superb- pancakes and also eggs with mushrooms and excellant hash browns- i dont have to eat gf but really one of the best breakfasts ive had in the last year. coffee was good but wouldnt come specially for that
One of the best. This is a great gluten free cafe. Food is excellent and staff are friendly and knowledgeable! Keep up the great work!
Beautiful gluten free. Small shop with a lovely vibe. Can't wait until they introduce gf meat pies! Love it.
Came in on Friday and coffee and food was divine . Gluten free products were amazing . Job well done
Tick, Tick, Tick. Love this café! Have a coffee with rice milk instead of dairy and enjoy the delicious gluten-free bread which is so yummy but get in early to buy bread as they always sell out.
Always friendly service from this local which has been here for ages. Good for coffee, brunch, lunch or arvo tea. I have been going here for years and can't remember a bad meal. White bean & avocado bruschetta is always good and changes sometimes, cook up breakfast always hearty, cakes good too. Don't like their recent refurb but it doesn't matter, the food and service is the same, efficient, friendly and tasty.
Great coffee ..good vibe.. .... Great coffee ..good vibe..
Best of all the Gluten Free bread etc..
Well done ..i send everyone i know to you from Sydney.
Golly gosh, great gluten free!!!. First time at Caffe Strada today and hello! Where have I been??
The menu definitely has something for everyone.
Loved how the deli counter looked and the veggie Turkish roll I had was so delish and light. I couldn't resist the sexy looking carrot cake which was to die for. I live on the other side of the city and I would gladly drive across town for a few loaves of their awesome bread. I left loaded down with three different loaves!
Coffee was great and the staff were so lovely and knowledgeable of their products. Overall brilliant experience.
Will be bringing everyone here.
Menu has change but reasonable food. Great little cafe for a gluten free/ Coeliac family. But what has happened to the menu???? It has reduced!!! Limited selection!!
Gluten free goodness. I paid my first visit to Caffe Strada today. It took me 50 minutes to get there from where I live and it was worth every second! Menu had a great selection of sweet and savoury and mostly all gluten free. Service, taste and atmosphere were all good. Going back soon!
Will definitely go again. Friendly staff, great service, pram accommodating, amazing food and coffee! I'm not an asparagus fan but was eyeing off the asparagus, goats cheese and chorizo omelette, the staff were more than happy to exchange for mushrooms. My friend and I also shared a smoothie and had a coffee. The smoothie was fresh and delicious and the coffee perfect. I love finding a little gem of a place like this! Would definitely recommend it to anyone!
I don't know why some people are so nasty. I never write on these web sites , but i had to write something after the last comment. Squash that mouse. Being coming to strada for over 8 years its the most amazing place. The food is excellent, the new decor is great. The coffee is one of the best in melbourne. The staff are so attentive and friendly. Quality in everything. That's probably why it's the busiest restaurant in Ivanhoe.
Amazing service! I was there for breakfast this morning and also to pick up some gluten free bread and rolls the breakfast was yummy and the gluten free products taste like normal bread so tasty will be going there regularly!
The only good coffee in Ivanhoe.

+4.5
Quality food, good mocha, good service - love coming here!
I can't get enough of this cafe I don't know where to start everything is just so amazing!!! From the amazing gluten free Turkish bread, fresh juices and smoothies and the best gluten free fruit bread I have ever tasted. Oh and the white chocolate and raspberry muffins and eclairs are Devine. Really want to try the mars cake....the coffee is fantastic as well
My favourite place in Ivanhoe for my morning coffee. Friendly staff and great coffee since they changed brands.Their food has always been the best part of the place, but since they have renovated it is now a comfortable and pleasant place to sit at all tables. Recommend.
Amazing gluten free food, nice coffee. Very pleased :)
One of the few. Ivanhoe (at least around Upper H'berg Rd) seems to be lagging in terms of getting a good brunch vibe. However, there are a couple of nice places around. Strada is definitely one of them. We had good and tasty food (and not overpriced like at other places), the hollandaise sauce was well dosed and coffee and tea were very good. The interior is quite nice, with a mix of retro-style and modernism. To be recommended.
Lovely!. Some of us at my work decided to do a cafe crawl around Ivanhoe. This is one of our favourites. 9/10
Healthy options. Great gluten friendly cafe with excellent menu choices. Had the lamb burger - absolutely delicious, and the flourless orange cake, deluxe. Great service too.
Love it!. Friendly staff, great atmosphere and great variety of food at a reasonable price. The chicken foccacia is to die for along with their homemade sausage rolls! Been here a couple of times and always had excellent tasting food. I will definatly be going back!
Brilliant food, especially for the gluten free options. We are from Sydney and nothing up here comes close to this place for quality of the gluten free food. Congratulations on the great delivery of gluten free food like, Turkish bread that my wife hasn't had since diagnosed a coeliac 4 years ago.
Gluten Free Turkish Bread. This is New to Caffe Strada, the bread is amazing for people who are coeliac or fructose intolerant, its like eating real bread same texture, nice flavour. You can buy the bread to take home, also available is their gluten free loaf in white, plain or seed.
We came across a busy Caffe Strada as we walked the Ivanhoe strip, liked the look of the menu and a regular at the outside tables said the food was great, so we went in and were welcomed warmly and shown to our seats. Very attentive staff with lots of info about the food. The drinks came quickly and our lunch was beautiful. We couldn't fault anything, and we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Will be definitely going back.
One of my girlfriend and my favourite places to eat for brekky lunch and for sweets, amazing gluten free selection and diversity on all menus, also try out their house made bread!
Everything is gluten free! Sasha served me and did an awesome job! Sasha made sure my additional food intolerances were catered to and everything went smoothly. Overall really happy to have come here.
This place is truly one of the hidden gems of Ivanhoe. Amazing food, charming staff and quirky little restaurant full of personality and delicious things to eat.
For those who have a genuine allergy when it comes to Coeliac disease, this is the place.
Most sufferers of allergies are catered for with the menu ranging from fish and chips to all sorts of pastries, lasangers.
Bread baked on premises and nearby supermarkets supplied.
Smallish Shop for all it has in it
Pricing is good considering location and effort to put in to stop cross contamination of product's.
Staff were very amiable.
Amazing cafe for a coeliac & even if you’re not. Really worth the visit. The owners put so much effort into recipes to make breads and bakery goods that are not just gf but really tasty. I very much enjoyed living in melbourne and having access to this!
coffees were wonderful, GF sausage roll and GF almond/raspberry croissant also fantastic. great service. you've earned yourself a new regular.
Best gf bread I’ve tasted yet. So impressed with wonderful gf food, helpful staff and fast service. Food is so good even non gf enjoyed the food. Couldn’t resist cakes to go too. Thanks Strada.
This place is amazing even if you aren't coeliac. Best parking is just around the corner as on-street parking is minimal. I can't tell you what my favourite thing is there because then they might be sold out when I go 🤣
This is a very nice cafe, the service was friendly and fast. The food and drinks were all very nice. My only criticisms would be that the top bread of one of our rolls looked quite mismatched to the filling and lower half. And it is not a particularly pram or pushchair friendly place and I would not recommend if there is more than one baby in the group. The cafe is modern, clean and bright. It has good opening hours and is in an easy to reach location. Overall I would recommend and will return in the future.
