Came here as a spur of the moment, food was delicious, the meals came out fast and staff are nice and attentive.

First time to the Restaurant, found the service very professional, the dinning area was pleasantly clean well set up. We ordered 9 Dishes and the food was hot and delicious. The entrees came out fairly early and the mains followed in turn. Very enjoyable meal with the family, will definitely return again.

Great atmosphere for group dinner, spacious and nice ambiance. Ingredients used were of good quality and the protion was generous.

I ordered from here through Uber Eats, they said they were struggling to find Uber delivery drivers so I called them and said I would come get it and they got my name and everything. Then I went to pick it up and they said they had just got an Uber driver to come get it, so it was a major waste of my time and money, then I got home before the Uber driver even got my food here. Will never get food from here again

Always get a great meal here. If its take away or eat in, its just lovely. Very nice people that run the place as well. Highly recommended.

Nice food. Good service and the dishes came out quickly Enough of a twist on traditional dishes to make it interesting and unique. The Massaman Duck was delicious!

This is an Ivanhoe institution. Been here many times over many years and the service is always polite and the food is consistently very tasty. Chicken satay and green or massaman curry are outstanding dishes.

Food was pretty yummy, nothing special but delicious all the same. Service was a little slow, food took a long time to come out which would be my only complaint. <br/>Overall pretty good food, I’d come back for sure

Booking online was very easy and clear. The staff were lovely and welcoming, the food was great. The only complaint I had was the timing of the food, as we had to wait quite a bit for my family member's order while the rest of us already had ours. Probably just a mix up in the kitchen and the staff apologised for it. The food itself was fantastic and the serving sizes were more than reasonable! :)

Lovely food and very friendly service! They also put our leftovers in containers for us which was great. We will definitely be back! My partner ordered the hot option instead of the Thai hot option. Needless to say the hot option was extremely hot!

Ubered it. Got the tom yum soup, beef salad and slow cooked lamb massaman curry. All really, really good. Tasty and high quality. Decent serves too. Arrived promptly. This is the best thai I've had in ages. I will definitely order from here again. You betcha!

I was looking forward going back but the service was rather disappointing. <br/>The waiter first couldn't understand what we were trying to order first. Later on when the food arrived, she refused us to order more rice and forgot to bring over the drinks. Disappointing night.<br/>

Had uber eats from here. The massaman curry was amazing and the meat was delicious and tender. Pad Thai was a bit disappointing and not flavoursome. Overall not a bad local Thai place. Would definitely order again for the massaman curry.

Not a lot of thai choices in ivanhoe but thankfully this little gem serves great thai. Curries are big enough to share and the service is very friendly.

This is a top notch Thai!!! It's my new regular now and it's never disappoints! You must try the grill, beef or chicken both amazing! Everyone who works there are always really friendly and welcoming, highly recommend.

Disappointing take away. Got take away a week or so ago and ordered pad thai, red curry and rice. Not the greatest thai food I've ever eaten, the red curry didn't have a very strong flavour and i got lots of fatty pieces of chicken and the pad thai was dry and cluggy almost. Wont be getting take away again in a hurry. It is a real shame because I've dined in a couple of times and its been fantastic, if only that could transfer over into their take away food!

As locals we've been here often. The last few times food has disappointed. Entrees now mostly $10.90, rather small. Prawn crackers- a treat for our daughter, not nice, brown and peppery. Spring rolls & Pandanus chicken just bite-sized portions. Mains $20-26, BBQ pork was stringy, stir-fried seafood in oyster sauce with veges lacked taste & piquancy, included fish which was terrible - muddy flavour, little calamari or other seafood, mostly veg; pad Thai was average as was the special fried rice. Service was patchy, mostly slow to take orders & clear dishes, wine not poured at all, cutlery replaced back-to-front in one case. This place used to be vibrant, buzzing and edgy, with tables difficult to get, but things have changed along with the atmosphere and level of patronage, I suggest go elsewhere if you're looking for better than average.

They might not be as spicy, but the delicious dishes just keep on coming at Thai Lantern, with head chef Alex Teerasphanan leading the team, producing quality meals in an authentic Thai setting.

Always a Pleasant Dining Experience. This is our go to Friday date night restaurant. Food is delicious, I'd recommend the chicken skewers, pork spring rolls, green curry, coconut rice and green tea ice cream yumm!! Why does this place have such a high rating? The worst Thai food I have had, pricing is too expensive for what it is. The Basil chicken was inedible and the Pad Thai was too sweet so we couldn't even finish. Looks like the flavor has been too westernized! Never again!!

Great food, cozy venue & good service. We have been to Thai Lantern a dozen or so times and we always try to get something different to each previous time. <br/>This time entrée was Sa Koo and Tofu with a sweet chilli sauce. Both were very tasty. <br/>Mains was Beef Yellow Curry with a bowl of white rice. The mains was scrumptious, full of flavor and not too spicy (for this little white boy). <br/>The cozy atmosphere and quick, efficient service creates a relaxed venue to eat great food.

Very accommodating. I have a fructose intolerance and am following the Low-FODMAP diet as a result. This means that I cannot eat onion, garlic or wheat, amongst other things, and so eating out is always difficult. I called the restaurant to make a booking an queried as to whether they would be able to cater to my dietary needs and they seemed to be familiar with my particular request, saying they usually made a stir-fry from scratch for people like myself with the appropriate sauces/vegetables. They were able to make up a beautiful meal for me and checked with me after we'd finished that I'd enjoyed the meal. I have often found that staff are visibly annoyed by my dietary requirements because they are rather complicated, so it was really refreshing to eat at a restaurant that was pleased to accommodate me needs and didn't make me feel like I was being an inconvenience. I will definitely be returning and will highly recommend this restaurant to anyone with food intolerances.

Loves this place!!!. We go just about every Thursday with work for Thai Thursday. There are between 2 and 14 of us, we pre order and the meals and when we arrive they are ready, hot and really yummy. We have been doing this for around 6 months regularaly and have never been let down by the food or the service. Adrian and his team are great, very friendly and are always willing to help where they can.<br/>I say a must to try!

Spring rolls are delicious and a very liberal serving size!! Excellent really.

School Mums' dinner. We went as a group of about 16 mums - at very short notice - and were well looked after by the owner.<br/>The food was great. Staff were great. It was easy to hear each other talk. Imagine we'll do another dinner there next term!

Average. The Thai food here looks and tasted like it came out of a supermarket frozen meal pack. I would not bother going again. The meals We had were, spring rolls, some parcel like things that tasted exactly like spring rolls, these items no doubt purchased frozen an deep fried. Then had green curry with Chicken, nowhere near fragrant enough and barely any Chicken. We also shared fried rice, don,t know why they even serve this but it was pretty good and also had a fish dish which tasted like it was smeared in cranberry jam and onions. If you are hungry and desperate for Thai then go but if you can travel a bit there are far better options.

FoodYumO. Delicious Thai food! We ordered the Pad Thai noodles, spicy pork salad and Peking duck red curry with steamed rice, so amazingly Yummy!! We will return happily, friendly staff and nice ambience!

Reasonable flavour, good price and good service. Tried them out as we have a number of allergies and they note they can cater for various requirements. They happily make meals to your needs, can handle kids (even provide them with kids plates and cutlery, which is great) and the service is overall very good and quick (really important with kids). Food tastes good, although not the best we've had; a little strange to have pineapple in a Thai curry IMO, but Pad Thai is not too far off the mark. Soups and rice dishes are good. Great desserts. Prices are fair.

A Hidden Gem. A fantastic restaurant hidden away in the Ivanhoe main strip. Fantastic options for vegetarians, and the sea food is to die for. Very well priced for a unique menu. Well worth a visit. BYO.

Poor booking service. I have been going to Thai Lantern for years until last night. We had made a booking for 730 and changed to 7pm, during the afternoon. When my daughter arrived at 7pm she was treated rudely by Adrian. When we arrived, Adrian told us that he had "forgotten" about the change in our booking. He left us waiting with no attempt to rearrange tables. We left, never to return after having a fantastic meal (far better than we had ever had) and excellent service at Buscarum Thai. Adrian need to eat less of the Thai Lantern food and focus more on looking after customers needs

Terrific Thai in Ivanhoe!. Adrian and his team deserve to be complimented on the consistency and high quality Thai cuisine they serve. As a regular customer I have not once been disappointed in a dish that has come across the table. I would highly recommend this restaurant to any considering it. With a plethora of restaurants to choose from along Ivanhoe's bustling main road, this restaurant is not one to be missed!

After reading the great reviews I was really looking forward to dining here but was left disappointed. The Tom yum soup was far from the best I've had and the Thai basil and chilli stir fry one of the worst. At least the curry, wine and service were good. Unlikely to go back.

Some of the best Thai food I've eaten! The BBQ pork is to die for & the green chicken curry was amazing!! Had a seafood noodle salad too which had nice flavours but the seafood was average. Also had a recommended noodle dish which is also amazing!! Highly recommended!!

Takes me back to Thailand!. Having been back to Thailand only recently, this place is definitely the real deal. You can always count on a great feed here. Never have I been disappointed, from a red or green curry to a tom yum soup or traditional pad thai. I love the food here. Service should also be mentioned, the waitresses are sweet natured and kind and food is generally quick to come out. Not the biggest place in terms of size so be sure to book in advance, particularly for weekend dinners. This placed is loved so much by my relatives, they travel from the opposite side of Melbourne to enjoy!

Tasty Thai. Tom Kha soup was delicious. The warm larb salad was more meat (ground pork) than veggies, but was flavorful and enjoyable. Coconut ice cream and banana fritter were a great way to round out the meal!

Great service matches the food. We held a family celebration at this lovely local Thai restaurant. (We were the large table referred to above!) The service was genuinely warm with just the right amount of attention. I'm no Thai food expert but the tucker easily matched the service. I ordered the Thai curry puffs for entree, a mussaman lamb curry for a main and I tried some fellow diners' entree of hoi jor, a red pork curry and a green chicken curry, As I said not a Thai food aficionado but as a reasonably sophisticated cook with a palate to match I enjoyed a tasty meal in terrific surroundings tended by excellent customer service specialists with genuine warmth. I'll be back!

Delicious Food and Efficient Service. We enjoyed a delicious meal of Tom Yam Goong followed by Red Duck Curry and Green Pork Curry last night at Thai Lantern in Ivanhoe. The place was packed and buzzing when we arrived about 7.00 yet the service was helpful, friendly and efficient despite a large table who had just beat us in. Flavours were fresh and punchy (we like it hot!) and the coconut rice just perfect. We will be back!

Keep the BBQ Beef as it was.. I have been to this place several times over the last 4 or so years. I did find it supurb. The BBQ Beef is a signature dish, alongside others. The restaurant has changed hands recently. The new owners need to contact the previous cook in order to deliver this dish exactly the same as in days gone by. If not, I would suggest that their business might suffer as a result. I do wish them every success though!

Delicious. I just got Take Away from Thai Lantern in Ivanhoe and the food was delicious. My favourite is the Pad Thai - the best Pad Thai I have ever had. I also recommend the Vegetarian curry puffs. <br/><br/>The service was quick and the owners are very nice. I am planning to go back again to eat in as I heard this Thai Restaurant is Family Friendly. <br/><br/>Thanks! Can't wait to come back!

The best Thai is at Thai Lantern in Ivanhoe. We love our Thai food and seriously Thai Lantern is probably the BEST we have had. We enjoyed everything we ordered but I especially LOVE LOVE LOVED their Massaman Curry!!! Can't get enough of it. Friendly staff with great service and a great atmosphere make this a true gem in Thai dinning!!

Love it!. We have eatern here a couple of times and we love it. This is genuine Thai food. I'm not usally a fan of Curry Puffs, but pinched one from my friend and my Lord, hands down; best Curry Puff I've ever had. The Tamarind Prawns are my fav and we usally have a one of the curries which are consistantly good. Love this place.

A favourite for takeout. We usually go here for takeaway instead of actually sitting down to eat, food has always been nice, new owner especially is very polite and friendly.

Simply Devine. We have tried several thai places in the area and this is definitely our favourite. Delicious flavor and great sizing. I will be frequenting this place regularly and be telling friends!

Ivanhoe's Little Gem. Hands down, the best Thai we've been to in the Melbourne suburbs. Warm, smiling faces greet you upon entry - and although the dining room is cramp - the food is worth a little elbow knocking. <br/><br/>As a starter, the Vegetarian Tom Yum soup is worth driving across town for, sour & spicy with more vegies than a farmers market: cauliflower, snow peas, carrots, broccoli, cabbage, potato, pineapple, bean sprouts... Just beautiful! We've had the green, red, yellow, and massaman curries which were all wonderful in their own right.<br/><br/>My personal fave is the vegetarian massaman curry, bursting with full flavors around pieces of pineapple, potato and sweet potato.<br/><br/>Last, but not least, you must try their roti with satay sauce. Without a doubt, it's the best satay we've ever had! Peanutty, but a little extra something (fish sauce maybe?) in there that gives its another dimension, and a one-up on the other satays out there. We've been many times & will continue to frequent!<br/><br/>***UPDATE*** 24/08/12 -- There are new owners to this restaurant!! Just found out today when we went back! Food was still very good :)

Disappointment. As Thai food lovers we tried the Lantern. The food was average with the service, decore and atmosphere below average. For a more upmarket dining with modest prices we prefer the newly Payom thai restaurant up the raod.

A last minute decision to grab some take away resulted in several moments of indecision. We knew that Ivanhoe offered several Thai options, so headed over. The menu consisted of standard Thai fare, and we felt safe on our choice of red chicken curry, beef massaman, spring rolls and roti. Once we got it home and tucked into it, it was apparent that this is not your ordinary Thai takeaway. The curries had heaps of meat, and big flavour! The spring rolls were outstanding, and the roti was delicate and delicious! Definately recommend!

We've just moved into the area and was recommended this little gem. The food is delicious!! Decent proportions and beautiful flavours! The ambience is cosy and the gorgeous service. We will be back, MUST TRY!!

Accidental Herbivore Action. B-E-A-UTIFUL meal, lovely place to eat..In future i will know NOT to eat the leaves..epic fail, however in my defence it was my first pandan chicken eating experience.

Tantalising Thai. One of my favourite Thai places in Melbourne. The staff are friendly and the ambience is great. The food always tastes amazing though I often have to ask for it to be "extra spicy" as the amount of chilli is most definitely in the safe range.<br/>Highly recommend the curry puffs :)<br/><br/>Edit - August 2012 - the restaurant recently changed owners and now the curries are a bit too creamy for my taste :(

Must try. We are a regular at the thai lantern and the food is reasonably priced and consistently good! Our favorite dishes ar the pandanus chicken, chicken satay and red curry!

Some excellent dIshes, I recommend the chicken satay sticks, BBQ pork and chicken larb. Delicious! Waitresses are lovely and food tastes great as takeaway as well.
