Really nice place to spend a night. The menu is incredibly diverse, catering to a wide range of tastes with style and aplomb. Truly tapas at its finest. Great craft beer selection behind the bar, lots of delicious cocktail options and 4 really nice beers on tap as well. Would absolutely recommend to anyone, best bar on this side of town for sure!!
A great local spot! We've only been here once, but that one time was good, and I know i'll go back to try the bombas which were sold out on the night we went in! The staff are friendly, the vibe is fun, and the food is delicious! The manager even threw in complimentary fried haloumi chips!
Barr’d has fantastic service and incredible staff. My partner and I have been here a number of times and the ambience is great, and the food is normally really nice also. Unfortunately the last time wasn’t so good. The saganaki was extremely dry and way more salty then usual, the fries were cold and the quinoa salad was dr and brand. Maybe it was just an off night and the management is so great I thought I message like this may just help with the staffing in the kitchen.
Barr’d wine and tapas bar in Ivanhoe. Small and cosy ambience and friendly staff with good service. Definitely a good place for dinner. They serve tapas and burgers. I like the pork belly and beef steak tacos and egg plant.
Excellent ambience, friendly staff. Tapas food good, especially liked their new range of hamburgers. Great place for a friendly drink and catch up with friends.
Service was great.. friendly and quick (we got a table inside and it was not very packed) the food was amazing... the Italian meatballs and sauce was a little average.. but the pork belly tacos are a definite recommendation its full of flavor with big chunks of pork belly. (*apologies for the poor picture of the taco..they looked so good I couldn't resist and actuslly forgotto take a picture!)
Also ordered the oven baked stuffed mushrooms with vegetables and blue cheese.. the blue cheese was surprisingly mild and went well with the mushroom.
The beer battered onion rings were also surprisingly good. When they arrived they looked pretty ordinary but super crunchhy coating that is flavorful! Good range of wine as well as beer on tap.
Downside the food is abit pricey for some of the portions. But definitely worth it given the flavorful food!
All in all definitely recommended but also strongly advise to call ahead and make a booking because they tend to get full.

Absolutely amazing place for a date night! Went here with my partner and after being given wonderful service and recommendations for an ideal tapas experience we were not disappointed! Together we ordered 4 items and all were mouthwatering and great serving sizes between two people! Definately did not disappoint and will be coming again!

Absolute cool place with fantastic value for money and huge portions of tasty spanish (and spanish inspired) food. Lovely customer care, I'd say well over average. Cool location, plenty of parking. Definitely going to be back.
Came in on Sunday night, FIRST OF ALL.. I would just like to thank the friendly staff and amazing chefs for a variety of Spanish cuisine. Highly recommend there paella, it is amazingly packed with strong flavours and also massive quantity in size. The burgers SECOND OF ALL was a wonderful selection of burgers all of which were very for filling. ESPECIALLY the chicken burger. THIRD OF ALL.. the tapas!!!! What can I say? I'll tell you what I can say, the calamari let me just say WOW! These things were so tender and soft just when you put it in your mouth it just melts away, and the sauce oh my god! Holy cow, best sauce I have ever tasted. I have to say I have never been to a restaurant that served such amazingly tasty food and such wonderful and friendly staff to add. They were very attentive to all of our needs. The only negative would be the pricing of the food, it was quite expensive but well worth the quality of what was served.
The staff at Barr'd really make this place. Friendly and helpful when you want to try something new. Food is yum and a great price especially for the area. Relaxed aesthetic, will definitely go there again!

I celebrated my birthday here last night, was so excited that I did. We ordered the dips while we waited for some of our party to arrive. Wow so delicious favorite dip the beetroot and mint the feta was amazing salty and creamy not bland like some other restaurants serve. All my parties meals looked amazing and they were all happy with them evem sharing around so we all got to try them all. The chocolate mint martini cannot recommend it enough a favorite with quite a few of us. The service was top notch with friendly staff that make you feel at home and recommendations of drinks and food was second to none. A fabulous place for two or a larger party Barr'd will cater to all your needs. I will be returning again to sample more of their delicious menu.
Been to Barr'd a few times with my girlfriends, great little suburban tapas joint. The selection of food is great. Last time we ordered the calamari, which is one of the best I've tried! And Spanish meatballs which melted in your mouth. Serving sizes are great for tapas! You get what you pay for. The service and staff are fantastic. I recommend Barr'd if your around Ivanhoe
Delicious tapas, we have come here a few times now and have enjoyed it. Wonderful service with friendly and helpful staff. The calamari was tender and mouth-watering, a must try when you visit Barr'd! The stuffed mushrooms and beef and almond empanadas were scrumptious. Somehow we still managed room for dessert and ordered churros, they were truly divine. The tapas dishes are great value for money and the servings are very generous. Their homemade Sangria is absolutely flavoursome. We will definitely be coming back to Barr'd.
We highly recommend Barr'd after enjoying a celebration with 50 guests recently..the food was delicious and plentiful..particularly the calamari. .large, tender tasty pieces,and all served by our very friendly hosts, Kim and Ari. The sangria and cocktails were delicious and we enjoyed a good range of quality wines. In all, a fabulous night..thank you guys
I've been to this place twice and I've enjoyed both experiences!Great tapas-style food.Friendly staff and good service.The creamy prawns were by far my favourite dish - the sauce was delicious.Their Sangria is a must because it's so tasty. Highly recommended.
As a local in the area, I come to Barr'd quite often and am very grateful that Ivanhoe is its home!
Staff are friendly and really make an effort to know their patrons. There's a happy vibe at Barr'd and I think this definitely contributes toward it.
There are many food options to suit any level of hunger. I've tried most of them, but my favorites are chicken tostadas, saganaki, nachos, delicious burgers and their famous paella. The homemade bread is also amazing!! My cousins from interstate rant about the paella and make an effort to come to Barr'd whenever they're in the area. And don't get me started on the delicious desserts... (CHURROS!!!)
Barr'd is a great place to hold a function. They have always been able to accommodate the large groups I have been with.
Whether coming to watch the footy or having a meal with your family or friends, I highly recommend giving Barr'd a try!
Great service with great food! Came here with my partner and we were served promptly. The chorizo bombas were very tasty as well as the prawns. Would highly recommend for everyone.
Really rate this place, have visited three times and enjoyed a variety of tapa dishes.

It his has been my regular place for after work drinks and a quick meal for a few years now and I won't be changing anytime soon. The large variety of beers and high quality cocktails are exceptional! The new tostada on the rotating specials menu was flavoursome and original! Favourite thing about Barr'd is the staff. They always welcome me with a warm smile and are very efficient!
Food always amazing! Great value and extremely accommodating staff always catering to our needs. Would highly recommend the kumara chips. Lovely atmosphere
Came here seeking a hangover cure and this hidden tapas bar did the job on a nice afternoon. Odd decor and use of colour! I agree with previous reviews regarding dimming of the lights as the bright orange accompanied with harsh light does not complement a bar scene! Burger we had was tasty, we regret not adding bacon or onion as that would have given it the substance it needed to be 10/10. We were in high regard of the array of beers. Biggest fault was staff. We felt unwelcome and more a nuisance than a paying customer. Hint: a simple smile goes a long way in hospitality, don't underestimate the power of being friendly when wanting returning customers.
Food was spectacular but would benefit from variation, specifically from deep fried potato and co entrees. Meatballs were our favourite dish and well worth the wait! Churros were sublime as well, with a generous serve. Both waitresses were accommodating and attentive and divided their time well. The manager should work on his volume and not shout so loudly and frequently about sports. We couldn't hear one another across the small table.
We came to dine due to a recommendation from my mother and were overall very pleased! Good selection of tapas and generous sized paella. We did find that some of the tapas were rather lacklustre- could do with some fine tuning however paella was packed full of flavour, 10/10. We were also also pleased to see the large selection of wines/beers available. The staff were helpful and considerate that we had a young child with us and the price was as to be expected. Overall, would recommend.
Came here on a recommendation from a friend, and was certainly not disappointed. Awesome tapas, great selection of beers and such a welcoming atmosphere. Staff made us feel very welcome, and you have to try the nachos! Definitely recommend!!

Great tapas and amazing staff.. You can tell when you have stumbled across a great bar when you see it is frequented by so many locals.
Nice range of tapas meals and the sangria is so tasty! Great atmosphere in the bar which is cosy with nice dim lighting and really comfy seating inside. Footy is often on the TV for the footy fanatics, or if you are not they generally have a great range of songs playing on the other TV.
Staff take the time to get to know you and are always smiling and very attentive. Ari the owner is a great conversationalist whom you will leave barr'd feeling like you have known for years.

Tried this place with a friend. Ordered the prawns, calamari, potato & chorizo balls & empanades. Prawns were by far my favourite dish - the sauce was amazing. Only complaint is the dishes seemed quite overpriced. Otherwise it was an enjoyable meal.
Perfect Paella - cute staff. Left satisfied! Overall food was a 7/10. Cooked very well but nothing wowed us. Nachos were ordinary nachos I could make at home but kept us boys appeased while waiting for the paella. Paella was spicy yet tasty and a large serving. Fried ice cream was a unique idea in theory but the vanilla was too overwhelming. Needed more caramel or batter.
Beer variety was great to see in this area! Our wine was rich and excellent value for money. Need more original cocktails to keep up with Melbourne's bar scene however.
Our waitress was strikingly sweet yet flirty. She charmed us from the moment we sat down and continued to delight us throughout the night. If she wasn't so young I'd have asked for her number, provided I could beat my younger brother.
Cool night overall. Will be back to try the rest of the menu as it showed notable potential!

Great food and atmosphere and the staff make the place. I've been a couple of times to eat, and for a social drink with Friends. The tapas are really tasty and fairly priced :) there's usually a couple of specials on the board to mix things up from time to time (I recently had the quesadilla hmmm, lovely). I did notice a comment from another reviewer on the lights being too bright, I read this before I went the first time, and the staff have obviously taken this onboard, they turned the lights down progressively as the night went on- which is pretty cool, because the darker the room, the better looking I am LOL. But, most of all, the staff make this place; Ari (Sorry if the spelling is wrong) always goes out of his way to chat, find out your name and make you feel welcome, but don't start him on his beloved Hawks. And my favourite, Kim, she's always takes note of what everyone's drinking and eating and keeps the place (and drinks) flowing.

Food here was wonderful with good size serves for tapas. A little more pricey than other tapas I have tried but it didnt matter. Service was good and it was lovely to have a bit of a chat with the owner/Chef before leaving. Two tiny things for me- I would also like to see the lights turned down a little in the evening and also some boppy spanish music playing in the background. Overall I loved it and will definitely be going back.
Came her with a few friends and was thoroughly satisfied. Great quality, fresh food with heaps of flavour! Waitress was adorable and had a gorgeous smile - made us feel wanted as soon as we walked in. Was a bit overpriced but a good night overall! Definitely going back.
My husband and I went in for dinner on Friday night. The atmosphere, the food and the service,was all fantastic! From the moment we sat down, our waitress was sublime!

I really adore this place.... BUT!!!. I love the idea of a wine bar in this area. I went with a girlfriend around 9pm one night. The food was very, very good. The best part of the whole experience was our waitress, who was an absolute sweetheart. I wish I got her name, she deserves to be recognized. HOWEVER! Turn down the lights at night, guys! Pump up that relaxing atmosphere! Although the decor is upmarket, having bright lights, orange accent colors and white walls made it feel like we were sitting at a Boost juice bar! We would have stayed for hours and hours (and spent hundreds!) but it was so bright, we felt completely exposed -- we ended up leaving and going to the italian restaurant across the street. It's so contradictory to be drinking and feeling amazing from the wine, but having to stay alert because every single light is on high. Lower watt lightbulbs on a dimmer would have made all the difference in the world. I really hope they read this, it's such a simple fix!
Great selection of beers, some nice tapas but main thing that sets this place apart had been the service Abi and Tanya have been lovely. Are remembered our names when he saw on the streets a few weeks after a first visit. It's a place where u can go sit have a few nice drinks some nibbles or a full meal and have the owner and barstaff chat to you, recommend one of the 5o odd beers and cider they have here or just sit and natter about the football.

I love popping into this cosy place for a drink with my wife and some 'snacks'. the staff are always friendly, the food is really good and I just like the ambiance and it is always so neat and clean. this is my favourite spot for a few quiet drinks where I don't have to shout to be heard. Great place to visit and worth a return trip or two...
Just returned from Barr'd for Father's Day dinner and had a wonderful time! The food was absolutely incredible, we really enjoyed everything we ordered. In particular, the seafood paella was a knockout and we will definitely be back for more! To top it off the service was excellent! The lady serving us was knowledgable and friendly! A real asset to the business! I really recommend this place!
Quirky but welcome addition to Lower Heidelberg Road. Great concept and execution. Nice atmosphere and good service. Feels a little out of place in the area but I'm glad it's there. Need more of the same ! Will be back.

Funky suburbs venue. Great city feel, funky environment, great selection of beverages, huge paella, great service & staff. Perfect location for a night out for a couple or group. Busy so you will need to book in advance.
