Review Zanetti Cafe Bar Restaurant - Ivanhoe

Salar Haghighi
This was one of the best pastas I ever had, super tasty. There are plenty of parking spaces around and the restaurant atmosphere was great, not much noise with a very good choices of background music. Highly recommended.

Brilliant Italian food from a generous range of choices. A unique and varied wine list, with lots of Italian and local suggestions. Lovely, friendly yet professional staff, great ambiance and lighting. This place is a breath of fresh air. The heritage walls of an original fire station offer a fantastic backdrop to the various rooms, from little ‘snug’ type spaces, to larger rooms, that are all tastefully decorated with some quirky pieces. Just a delight.

My favorite Melbourne restaurant. My family and I have been coming here for many years. Always a delightful experience for all the senses. Fresh, high quality meals that are consistently of the highest standard. Always feel extremely welcome with phenomenal hosts! Highly recommended!

An enjoyable experience. Very welcoming with fantastic table service matching the friendly and warm atmosphere. Looking around you could see that the restaurant was buzzing and everyone was enjoying their time there especially the food and wine. I would definitely recommend the pasta dishes, very fresh and full of fresh flavours. A great place to catch up with friends and family.

Really delicious and fresh Italian food set in an old fire station. Staff were lovely and the wine selection was top shelf and well priced. A really solid Italian dining experience in the suburbs.

Everything is perfect! Delicious food, friendly staffs, beautiful setup and nice music! Had several wonderful nights.

Great service and truly yummy Italian food. Had the pasta with prawns and the polenta special. Both a taste sensation. Will be back

We had a livingsocial voucher and were hoping to be reminded of the days when the food here was pretty good. Unfortunately, those days seem to be long gone. Despite the voucher saying 'house wine up to $8' the only house wines were one red or white each for $7.50. We were restricted to these for the deal even though there were other wines on the menu for $8 and above. Curious. Why put a value on it if you're only offering the house wine anyway? Oh well, their game, their rules I suppose. At least it looks like a better deal for them with the higher value 'on offer'. Next, the shared entrée - the dips. No complaints there - very nice indeed and things were looking up. But then came the mains. These were pretty ordinary and were laden with 'tired' rocket, most of which (the rocket that is) was sent back. We rated my seafood linguini as a 6/10 and the salmon as 5/10 - and we advised our waitress of this. And last, the deserts. These were randomly chosen for us by the waitress without enquiring about allergies, preferences or whatever. Essentially it means that you can expect the least favoured deserts of the day. Luckily one - the lemon tart - was reasonably good. The other one however, was so forgettable that I don't even remember what it was. A poor experience indeed. All you can really say is that thank goodness the deal was only $49. To have paid full price for that would have been extremely disappointing. Alas for Zanetti, we won't be back, even on a 'deal' unless we see the 'Under New Management' sign out front. There are too many good places around vying for our 'dinner dollar' so why waste it there? And lucky for livingsocial that we've had voucher deals before because if that had been our first livingsocial experience, it would have been our last!

Terrible. Rude staff, had to get up from table multiple times to get new bottles of water. Zero service. Paid for drink didn’t receive. Not a good way to treat the king of ivanhoe

We had breakfast here yesterday! The food was absolutely delicious & the service was great. I'd highly recommend!!

Best cafe in Melbourne. Loveliest staff and owners. Excellent food. Be very surprised.

Food and service was excellent as usual, but whoever on the staff of either Zanetti or Ouffer whose voucher I was using didn't word it correctly so we didnt quite end up with what we expected.

Great service and great food. Waitress was lovely and so was Sam.

3.5
I came here to kill some time before my physio appointment, the breakfast and coffee arrived quickly. The toast was thickly sliced and a nice quality sour dough bread, the coffee was nice but could have been a bit stronger. Cakes looked delicious but not for breakfast.
KD

Came on a Saturday night and the restaurant was rather empty. The venue is quite old and small, but cosy and homey. Service was okay - being the only customers in the restaurant, we were given full attention.

The menu is quite standard, with not too many options to choose from. We did enjoy the seafood chowder for our starter which was creamy and comforting. The mains were okay - nothing too special, but the portions were quite large. The steak was a bit tough though.

Stopped in for a coffee and cake mid afternoon down at Zanettis.
I used to live a few blocks from the strip and was familiar with this cafe back then. I have heard mixed reviews about the cafe. Once upon a time it was a great place to eat and since changing hands it has been more of a ‘miss’ than a ‘hit’.
I didn’t want to judge so we walked in desperate for caffeine. We were served by a friendly waitress who took our orders promptly. We asked about cakes and she prompted us to come to their cake window display and choose.
I opted for the Fig and Walnut Flourless cake and my other half ordered the Lemon, Pear and Raspberry Flourless cake. Both were light and sweet and complimented the coffee. Both our strong flat whites were strong and gave us the energy boost we needed.
The cafe is a bit dated but the service given was great. I can’t speak about their lunch or dinner service but coffee and cake is a thumbs up from me!

Terrible service. Sat at table for 20minutes before anyone came over - this is with about 5 other customers and barely any rush and staff cleaning glasses. Order finally placed then after another 25minuted of not arriving I enquired why it is taking so long - it seems they forgot to send it to the kitchen. No apologies or explanation for the wait, the staff just continue to stand around and play with their phones. Don't waste your time and money, rubbish place

Very pleasant for a mid week dinner , value for money and good portion sizes. You will not be dissatisfied if you are after a quick and easy dinner.

My husband and I love the food here. Amazing depth of flavour, everything authentic. Will keep coming back. Tried paella, slow cooked lamb and morracan chicken. All fabulous.

A bit outdated .... but can be better.

Ivanhoe is getting trendy now, so must the restaurants around here.

Zanetti is cozy, quite good but outdated .... foodwise .... Seafood Chowder is just as good as anywhere.
Mains; very good presentation on most meals .... do try Lamb Shoulder and King George Whiting ...... Ragu was good apart from the lack of seasoning and boldness, overcooked Prawns and Scallops Marinara, although Linguine's were just a tad over "aldente". Steak was overcooked, okay sauce so is the Atlantic Salmon.

Ordinary desserts, so is their coffee/Latte.

For what it was on Groupon, great value and dining experience, it needs a bit of spruiking in the kitchen and a bit in the interior, that should do the trick, thank you. JT-13/07/2017.

I bought a Groupon voucher for Zanetti's based on the positive Groupon reviews.

First thing we noticed was the decor the atmosphere was lacking. The place just looked old and worn down, which may deter any people from trying it for the first time. Although the food was actually of the reasonably high quality, that would not have been the assumption we made based on how the restaurant looked and felt.

Overall we had a good experience at Zanetti's. We ordered a seafood chowder for entree, which I thought had a good flavor (although I couldn't comment further as i have only had canned chowder previously). The Moroccan chicken was pretty nice but the salmon lacked flavor. Overall mains were presented well, however portions were not great if we had paid the original price. Desserts were a random selection of small baked goods from their counter.

The Groupon voucher was definitely value however we would be unlikely to return in the future, especially as we don't live in the area.

Sadly they have lost the plot. Zanetti used to be a place we could go and grab a quick and satisfying bite but the quality of food had dropped and the service is abysmal. On my last visit they not only gave me the wrong meal they gave me attitude when they took the wrong one a way and then again when they gave me the correct dish. No apology, no discount, no complimentary drink -- just a bad vibe. Sadly you would think that when a guest orders from you special menu you would get that right.
Foodie101
This place was rather disappointing.
The service was extremely poor. The waitress didn't clear any of our plates, she didn't ask if everything was okay or if we want any other drinks. She also didn't know what the dips were or what food items won't available, so she had to ask the kitchen 3 times (this should be checked at the start of the shift)
For our entree we had calamari, which was too salty. For mains we had a steak which was good, paella was wayyy to over cooked and too spicy. Won't be coming back.
Jack
Went here for brekky on the weekend and the food was pretty good! Big serves, and fresh. Menu could have a few more healthier options. The main let down, however, was the coffee.
Daniel
Once upon a time Zanetti was a bustling Italian restaurant and a staple of the Ivanhoe food scene.
Since it's changed hands it's become more low key and at best a place to get a light meal or a coffee.
The Italian flavour has sort of gone out of the place.
Still nice, but wouldn't hurry there for dinner.
Stephanie
Awesome food! Great service and cute baristas 💖
Always leave here feeling great and satisfied!

Decent coffee, poor service. I don't particularly enjoy being judged based on the size and shots my coffee has. I usually come here for coffee and receive decent service. The guy always remembers my coffee and I have no dramas. However, on a particular Sunday morning I was served by another person and then critiqued based on my large, triple shot coffee and advised "caffeine is what's killing Australia". Paid for a coffee, not an opinion
Came out to Ivanhoe for a trip down memory lane and stumbled across Zanetti last week. Have to say their pizza is on point. Got the chicken and potato whilst my partner opted for a pasta which was decent too. Good service so all in all definitely one of the neighborhood's highlights.

Becoming a bit of a regular here for a solid brekky when I'm in the area each week for work and decided to have a dinner there. Not only is the place very closely named to the great Mark Zanotti (google him you won't be disappointed) but the diners are banging! Went the classic winter pizza and pasta route and was not disappointed. I'll now be back for dinner more often (insert double thumbs up here).
Imogen
zanetti staff is super friendly! lovely, fresh and delicious food! from steaks to salad, coffee to tea, cake to muffin, zanetti has it all!! highly recommended for everyone!! will definitely be going back!!
Daniel
The vibe at Zanetti has definitely evolved over the years. Once a vibrant Italian restaurant, it's now quite a laid back cafe with a smaller menu but still delivers on quality. Friendly staff and fresh, flavoursome food.
We came on a Monday night after work, so it was quiet. Not sure what it would be like during a rush period, but based on our experience, we'd definitely be back.
Old Souls
Went here last night for a pizza with some friends, was a bit concerned as I hadn't been here for quite a while. I had no reason to worry! We all had the pumpkin, eggplant & feta pizza which was delightful! Staff were very friendly and attentive. Also - the cleanliness of the bathrooms has improved substantially!! I'll certainly be back to Zanetti's, the desserts looked lovely too.
Mel
My husband and I had really bad salads - ingredients were old, salad tasted not fresh. Didn't bother staying for coffee - went elsewhere. We won't be back.
Chanel
Cake was good, however my friend and I waited 20 minutes for a tea and a hot chocolate , and the hot chocolate was watery. We were the ones in there, so why did it take so long ?They did not even offer or put water on our table.
Not very good service.
Juno2610
I used to be a regular customer there.Lately maybe they changed chefs. This morning I was so disappointed that after being waited for 30 minutes,I had the veggie breakfast but it was so oily and tasted disgusting. My husband ordered omelette which came even later than me and it was even not in a proper way of cooking. We left immediately and paid the full fees.Never come back again.
BIRCHER QUEEN 👑
Menu is quite extensive and the food is really good - perhaps they have changed chefs recently? Meals are a great size and good value for money. The service however is where Zanetti's lets itself down! Our drinks - including beer from the fridge - were not cold... This place is hit and miss but worth giving it a chance!
Ashleigh Katherine
The service is good and the employees have very good customer service however for a cafe that is in a nice area you would assume that the food would be a bit above average. Sunday lunch was unfortunately below average and Ive had nicer meals at an industrial take away shop.

My wife and I were in the area last Sunday and looking for somewhere for lunch. We walked along the Main Street but many places were closed still from Xmas. Eventually we found Zanetti and went in, the waitress offered a table next to the door. There were many empty tables available so we asked to sit away from the doorway. The waitress said take your pick and walked away! We made our way to a table, about 5 mins later the waitress dropped two menus on our table and walked away without comment. Another 5 mins later the waitress came back and asked if we were eating, I said we'd like lunch, she went to walk away and I asked if we could get a drink. After ordering the drinks we waited 20 mins before they arrived, there was no water on the table to drink either. When the drinks were delivered, again no talk from the waitress just drop and run. We had our drinks and decided this wasn't somewhere we wanted to spend having a meal. We paid and left without eating never to return.

Went for breakfast today at 10:40. We were seated and not told there would be a wait. No water was brought to the table with the menus. We ordered and again were not told of any wait on food and drinks. We ordered a coffee and a chai which took over half an hour to arrive and were luke-warm at best. We asked a waitress how far off they were after 30minutes and she preceded to clear tables and go to the kitchen and didn't even ask the barista. We then asked a second guy who apologized and said he'd move our order forward. Meanwhile other customers around us who had arrived after us had received their food and drinks before us. We then waited for our food which arrived at 11:50 taking over an hour. When we mentioned our disappointment the manager didn't care and just said sorry but were busy and that was it. We only ordered scrambled eggs on toast with some sides, that doesn't take long. The food when it arrived wasn't great either, it was hard to get a knife through the toast, the scrambled eggs were underdone and sloppy, the bacon was charcoal in some places and the avocado was black.

Perfect service! and beautiful coffee's!The staff were very helpful and very happy to be at work ,, I will defiantly be returning with my friends and family.

Friendly service, great food and quick to bring it out. Always the place to go to on a Saturday or Sunday for brunch or lunch. Big servings and always tastes amazing no matter what I order. I just wish there prices were a tiny bit cheaper
Georgia
Great food and great coffee! I'm never disappointed! Even thought the decor is a bit out dated, it has yummy food and great friendly staff! PLUS it has free wifi now :)

The food did not taste right but large servings. Would not recommend at all and would definitely NOT go back. Good location for definitely below average food.
Elle's Kitchen
Service and Food was terrible. We waited over an hour for our meals. We asked the waitress a number of times how long our food was going to be.... Our children were starving. Waitress kept making excuses that it was busy because it was a public holiday. Our meals finally arrived (an hour after we ordered) it was tasteless and boring. My husband ordered poached eggs... One was still raw when we received it. Our coffee orders arrived quite quickly, upon further inspection noticed that my cup had not been cleaned properly... Red lipstick from previous person using it... YUCK!' The coffee didn't taste great either. Cannot believe
how bad this place was... Would not recommend it to anybody.... Ever!
Rosie
Worst meal I've ever had. Too salty and tough pork belly. Desserts were good though.
Lou
Great service and top quality food and coffee. Always a great place to dine.
Coffee is great.
Never disappoints.
Staff always friendly and willing to assist.
I'll be back again.

Seafood Risotto. Delightful. Best ever

Zanetti is great. Zanetti has great steaks.

Zanetti has great coffee.

Zanetti has great service.

It is the only restaurant and coffee shop in Ivanhoe where you can have a conversation, because you can hear and be heard. That's why lots of business people meet there.
Chris
I came here for the brekky avocado meal. At $17.90 its approx $3 pricier than average elsewhere, but was Delicious. Stacked high above two fresh slices of bread with large tomatoes, some onion and pieces of fetta cheese with a couple of spring onion pieces draped across. Service by the main lady was happy, genuine and prompt. Bottle of water to the table. Papers available, lots of space. Nice clean interior. A pleasure to eat here.
James
The worst service i have ever had, 45 min wait for 2 poached eggs (one under cooked one hard boiled) on toast cold bacon hollandaise sauce charged for but never ordered, meal should have taken 4 mins max to cook. watched numerous other customers order/receive meals, eat pay and leave before even being told an estimated time as to which i would have to wait. will never eat here ever again and i sugest if you have taken a brief moment to read my review that you take my advice and find another place to grab a bite to eat. pathetic, i feel sorry for the old owners/managment (not sure which one changed) who would see there business being driven into the ground.

Went to zanetti cafe with my fiance, we got 2 steaks which were cooked to perfection and enjoyed a lovely glass of wine outside afterwards. Overall I am very impressed with service and we will definitely return

Love the food & the great staff . We have eaten here 4 times now & we have never waited more than 30 minutes for our meals & we have been here during both busy & quiet times. Will certainly be back

Because its local, I have eaten here often over the years, but never now by choice. It is always so so so slow with service. You can wait over 90 minutes for food when they aren't very busy. The food is okay, the prices are a bit on the high side, but just so slow to get to eat. I will never return by choice.

Excellent service, fabulous coffee & smiles all around!!!!. Recently went to Zanetti on a sunday for the first time and i was blown away by the excellent service! greeted with a smile and a fabulous lunch! i thoroughly enjoyed my meal- being the local sausage and my husband loved the seafood chowder! thumbs up for a great meal and coffee, will be definitely returning!

Went to zanetti for the first time after passing by yesterday afternoon and decided to drop in for dinner. Service was friendly, and I had the best long black I've drank in years. The food was excellent and arrived quickly after I ordered, I will definitely drop in again

Thumbs Up!. Been dining at Zanetti's for a few months now and I am never disappointed with the quality of food and service. Friendly smiles amongst staff add to the positive atmosphere of the place. The meals are reasonably priced and served up beautifully. And the coffee is fantastic too.
There's a reason I keep coming back.

Great Place in Ivanhoe!. As a self employed individual, I usually set out to different cafes for a coffee or lunch on a regular basis, and Zanetti's has become one of my favourite places. Not only do I think they make the best coffee available on the busy street, their meals are of a great standard and plenty of options to choose from. Plus, the relaxed environment and smiles amongst the staff is great!
Keep it up!

Zanetti Cafe Bar and Restaurant. I recently went to Zanetti for the first time after recommendation from a friend and I was not let down. The food and service were fantastic and the friendly staff were welcoming and efficient. I ordered the Panko Crumbed Chicken Pide and it was absolutely delicious! I have gone back to Zanetti numerous times since then and they continue to impress! Great coffee!
Chris
Not happy. My husband and l went to Zanetti's today for a late breakfast. Meal was okay service was good . We did however have a huge problem when my husband paid. He had 2 fifty dollar notes in his wallet and after paying $44 and came back to the table he realized that he was missing a $50. He asked the waitress if he had accidently given her two 50's when paying. The waitress said no and that this happens often that people try to say that they have done this. Well we were not happy felt like she was calling us scammers and did she say that she would telly up the till later to find out no, did she check the till no .We will never dine there again and will tell friends same as we have never tried to scam anyone ever and this made us feel terrible. MMmmm just wondering at the end of this day who will be $50 better off????
Colin
First review. I have never before considered writing a review for restaurant but then I have never found myself to regularly patronize an establishment which continues to surprise me with its quality and service. Zanetti however is such a place. Staff and ownwers Norma and Sam always go out of the way to make me feel welcome and with arrival of new chef the quality of food and presentation have rocketed. Even the humble tuna salad reaches new standards in the hands of this maestro, go and enjoy
Eddie Francis
Change for the worse. Ugh. You used to get excellent pides from Zanettis. But don't bother anymore.

I had the panko chicken with avocado and bacon. Chicken meat was tight and the crumbs were soggy - poor microwaving, guys. The avocado was inedible, and the chips were fish & chip variety.

The salad was over-dressed, and I mean OVER-dressed: swimming in oil.

On another meal the "tomato relish" was overcooked onons (no, not caramelised) with ketchup poured on them. Tasted okay - but someone needs to look up the meaning of the word "relish".

I guess it's a new owner and chef? Maybe?? Not sure. Anyway, we won't go back. A real shame.
Lexus
I would never dine here again! If you like soggy pasta, waiting 2 hours for a meal and a waitress with an attitude, then go for it. It was a real shame as we were celebrating my friends birthday.
Alicia
Highly enjoyable experience!. Went to Zanetti for some lunch the other day and it was great. Service is with a smile, coffees were really good and the food was not only beautifully presented but delicious also. Definitely a nice atmosphere to the place and very friendly staff. Will be back
Doris
Absolutely love Zanetti. I have dined here a few times and absolutely love not only the food but the great customer service. The staff are friendly and make you feel very welcome the minute you walk in. The food is delicious to say the least. Last Sunday, on Mother's Day, the family decided to have dinner at Zanetti's. Even though it was a very busy night, the staff had everything under control and we all left extremely satisfied. Even my fussy mum who is a great cook herself was complementing the chef on how delicious the food was and my mum rarely does that. Our table began with a range of entrees including the garlic bread, bruschetta and the calamari which was a big hit with all. The mains included chicken rissoto, steak with potatoes and roasted vegetables, a vegetable stack with rice, just to name a few. Everyone on our table agreed that the presentation of the food was fantastic and that the food tasted just as great as it looked. Last but not least was coffee and cakes. The coffee is exceptionally good and the chocolate mousse cake is mouth watering. My sister had a flourless orange cake with ice-cream which she really enjoyed. I highly recommend Zanetti due to the wonderful food and the great service and having to travel 1 hour to reach this place does not deter me from returning. Love Zanetti and will definetly be back.

20 dollars steak Tuesdays. We ordered the rib eye fillet steak with mashed potato and spinach and mushrooms and instead we got the Angus steak with finger potatoes in a veal sauce jus, we were too hungry to ask them to get us the correct order so we went with it.
Steak was dry and on the bland side, the veal jus tasted sweetish which reminded me of beef stir fry sauce you get in Chinese takeouts. So yeah a bit of a let down there.
We also ordered a bowl Potato wedges as an entree and it was awesome!
We will be back for coffee and potato wedges, not for dinner though.
My advice :
1-Get new menus for the current ones are a bit dirty and worn out.
2-fix the wobbly tables (we had to improvise by sticking a folded napkin underneath, which worked!)
3-Write down on the menu that you wrap prosciutto around the steak (we asked the waitress to return the dishes to the chef to remove it and she kindly apologized and fulfilled our request).
Good luck!
Nick Forge
New menu is incredible! Good place to hang out.

Have been here twice over the past 2 months to meet friends who live in the area. Both times were 11-11.30am on Sunday, place was 40% full.

As with other reviews, my feedback on the service is in short. Rubbish. Both occasions saw me asking after 10mins for menus. It's as if the staff are hungover, in fact the 16-18yo staff probably are,as they are seemingly oblivious to what's going on around them.

The food was average at best. My friends meals are the same - big bfast overall its not bad as such, just lacking in quality ingredients with the tiny sausage reminiscent of a Safeway special as with the burnt bacon, and both times arrived luke warm at best.

I had the pizza with salami, obviously using the cheapest cheese on the market the pizza was so oily i could only manage eating half of it. The thick orange/yellow residue on the plate is very off putting.

Second occasion I settled for breakfast on just poached eggs/bread. Eggs were cooked perfectly, however the bread was clearly at least a day old given not even toasting it could hide the fact it was like concrete.

My friend now come to my side for bfast instead.

Ummm No. Tried this place again since update but nothing really has changed. Coffee was ok at best, food ordinary. Better options in Ivanhoe.

Great. I really like the food and the service
waiters were great
keep it up

Perfect!. Had dinner with a friend a couple of nights ago and it was absolute perfection! Service was fantastic, food was to match. Great prices too. Staff were friendly and very outgoing and with a good sense of humor! I would go back weekly for a meal. Great restaurant in a great suburb!

Worst service I've encountered in Melbourne. After 20 minutes of waiting we got up and asked the waitress to come over who asked if our order had been taken. Mind you, she was the only one taking orders and the place was not busy. After finishing our meals (my rare steak was cooked well done) we were going to have coffee and cake. After waiting another 20 minutes no one came to clear our table nor ask if we wanted anything more so we left. Highly recommend avoiding this place
AnthonyMP
Just waited 20 mins for a short Mac with approx 10 people in the place. Very disappointing.
Hayley
The worst breakfast of my life!!!!!
I'm constantly trying out new places for breakfast but this is by FAR the worst food I have encountered as of yet. Firstly, we had to retrieve our own water soaked menus from the next table as the waiter failed to bring them to us. Once decided what we wanted, we waited almost 10 minutes to be served by a waiter but failed to receive any acknowledgment. I had to (on my crutches with a broken toe) make my way up to the counter myself to order. The service was shocking to say the least, one waiter who failed to even put cutlery on our table or wipe the previous customers' crumbs off before we sat down. We finally got our meals - both of us had eggs and bacon on toast with a side of avo...something pretty simple you would think... The quarter of an avocado we received was still in its skin, with bruises all over. The eggs were discoloured, bland and watery. The bacon had white flecks all over it. Then out came a serve of pancakes with maple syrup and butter cream, which comprised of two small pancakes drizzled with the cheapest maple syrup possible and a wad of grainy butter in the centre. It was such a disappointment to be paying $40 for something far less to the standard of what we could make at home. A lovely morning out for breakfast left me as a very disgruntled customer. I don't know if the resident chef is on holiday or that was the resident chef but all I know is that ill never return and I advise any potential future customer to do the same.
Tanja
Thumbs down lower than the ground ! Sitting outside, we had to ask for service, unclean & atmosphere 'schoolies'...after our meals we ordered deserts only to find deserts to be stale, disgrace. I don't blame staff for the poor quality, I blame ownership for concentrating on penny counting rather than food quality & customer satisfaction. Look after your staff, customers & keep it fresh only then will you reap the rewards
Christian
Coffee was good. Food was rubbish.

We have been dining at this restaurant since its inception many years ago, have seen owners come & go, the new owner has made many improvements in the renovation, however the staff leave a lot to be desired, tend to chat amongst themselves behind the counter, leaving customers waiting & tables left cluttered with used dishes, on a recent outing people at another table had finished their meal & were still waiting for the childrens,on enquiring with the waiter, were told that the order had gone astray, very upsetting, were not offered any compensation. Another incident customers were seated & left waiting waiting waiting they eventually walked out very dissapointed. Its a shame that this restaurant is being let down by the staff, as the food is very good & well presented hence out patronage over the years.
Mark
Not a bad breakfast. Went there this morning, staff were very courteous and friendly. Food was of a good standard and portion sizes were ok.

Very impressed with the quality and strength of the Strong Mocha ordered.
Julie Watkins
Lunch 22 June 2012. My mother in law and I just had the worst lunch at Zanetti. The staff were cold and unfriendly. The meals came out and didn't look like anything described on the menu. The chicken was very dry, the salad leaves were limp, the toasted bun was burnt and the avocado ceased to even exist. Shocking prices for a shocking lunch and after I complained about the meal, we were still charged for it.

We won't be back there ever again.

A second rate cafe over-populated with pretentious teenage douschebags who sit on a coffee for 3 hours...
Sandra
Disappointing!. Wen to Zanetti's for dinner, having been there many times before and always happy to return. When we arrived it was obvious something had changed as they appeared to be in the middle of renovations. On asking, were told it had a change of ownership. We were given a seat and ordered and waited and waited. Finally our meals came out and they were very ordinary. The pumpkin gnocchi was tough and cold. The waitress made the potato the scapegoat and took it away to replace. It arrived in a minute or two which suggests heating up in the microwave. It was hotter but still tough! My husband's meal was very bland and uninteresting, consisting of a very tired salad. Normally we would stay for a coffee but not this time. We also found the staff looking nowhere near as professional as the previous staff and were subjected to listening to the male staff showing his displeasure quite loudly to a female staff due to technology in the restaurant not working. Sadly, we will not be returning to a restaurant that we have enjoyed many meals in with the previous owner!

Lunch at Zanetti's. I had lunch with a colleague at Zanetti's. I rang to book but on arrival realised this was not necessary - there were plenty of tables inside and outside.
We had oysters kilpatrick for entree and pasta and fried calamari. The entree took about half an hour to arrive. This was odd because there were scarcely six tables occupied altogether. The mains were reasonably sized. The pasta (angolotti with eggplant filling) mostly contained ricotta. The calamari were freshly crumbed. I would give both dishes 7/10.
The service was very good in all respects other than the time it took to serve the food.
The prices were reasonable for a city restaurant - one entree, two mains and four beers set us back $80 not including the tips.
Overall a safe choice but no dazzlers on the menu. Also, the name on the building sign is not Zanetti - look out for the street barriers for Segafredo Zanetti or you will miss it.

Horrible!! Went around 3pm with my family....my partner and I ordered the Turkish pide with chicken avocado caremalised onion cheese rocket and tomato chutney ....took about 40 mins to come out.... it was actually a roll with no caremalised onion no avocado a smear of tomato sauce cheese and a small piece of chicken that was in little pieces and that looked like someones leftovers. It was served with chips and a tasteless salad. After pointing this out to the waitress I told her I was not paying for this meal. I paid for my drinks and walked out. Never again.

Terrible. We visited this cafe at 3pm'ish on Sunday, we were greeted by a friendly waitress and drinks arrived a few minutes after ordering. We ordered a pizza and chicken salad. 30 mins passed and still no food so we asked and it arrived a few mins later. Probably the worst food we have had out in a long time. The pizza was not cooked, the dough was still wet, the chicken salad had no dressing, no flavour and the chicken wad overcooked and dry. On leaving we complained and didn't pay for the pizza. The waitress was very nice but totally let down by the kitchens slowness and poor quality food...never again.

Went to Zanetti's for my birthday dinner last week, was a Thursday night. There was one big table with perhaps 10-15 people, then 2 other tables with 2 or 3 people, & my table of 5. Most of the restaurant was empty- we were surprised bcos it was a gorgeous warm night. So we ordered, first some bruscetta & dip platter as entree for the table, plus our main meals. It then was 40 minute later than we called over one of the waitresses & asked her what the delay was? We still didn't have even the entrees... Yet the place was basically more than half empty?? We saw another tables food arrive who had come in about 20mins after us? The girl then went to the kitchen and returned saying the food was almost ready.. It arrived within a few minutes. So basically ALL the food came at once.. Making the entrees a waste of time in my opinion. My sister had ordered a risotto & asked that it NOT have eggplant or mushrooms- & it came with both! So I sent it back asking for a new one. My partner & I both had steak, his rare to medium & mine med to well done... They were given to us incorrectly, either the kitchen or the waitress got them mixed up & after a few bites we realised & had to swap meals! 5-10 minutes later my sisters new risotto came out. Amongst all of this the young waitress apologised for the long wait & told us their had been a mix up in the kitchen & this was the reason for the delay. The food was actually pretty good, steaks were tasty, everyone was pleased with the food. But I have to say I wouldn't go back after the service we got. There was an older man behind the bar who was either the manager or owner perhaps?? Not certain... But I felt like he should have gotten involved when our meals became a bit of a debacle. Offered 'something' complimentary perhaps.. Some kind of service recovery? But them I'm not even certain he knew wot was going on? The wait staff are very young & sweet, but I don't know that they actually even told him wot was going on. I've eaten at Zanetti's many times over the years & always enjoyed it there- but after this experience & the lack of choice in the menu now, I don't think I'll be back again. Pity.

Have been going to Zanetti's for years now with the family, always happy to come back. Good service and tasty meals that in my opinion are reasonably priced. An all rounder with something for everyone.

Pmes30. Have recently returned to eating at Zanetti's. The new management are doing a terrific job of revamping the restaurant - it needed it badly. The previous management did nothing and let it slip down. The food was as good as I have had at Zanetti's - I have been going there off and on for about 20 years. The service is back on track and the coffee after dinner was great.

-----04 Oct, 2011-----

GREAT COFFEE. I was pleasantly surprised when I returned to Zanetti's after a couple of years. The service was good, the food very tasty and the coffee great. It is good value for what you pay and a great suburban cafe.

Disappointing. Had been to Zanetti many times in the past and thought it was a good place for a nice meal. Had a good atmosphere and friendly staff.

Of late however, the standard seems to have slipped. Staff have been cut back and the ones left have attitude problems. Meals are disappointing, and the menu is sparsely populated with meals you might find at your local pub. Sorry to say that Zanetti has left me unimpressed.

I think the highlight of the experience was when the risotto came out and had been made with vinegar rather than stock. Yes, that’s right – vinegar. I don’t think I need to elaborate on this. I’ll let you guys decide.

Despite the bad voting on Urbanspoon, I felt that Zanetti is a safe restaurant to go to when you run out of ideas or the effort to search for a different place for a meal. They have weeknight specials and late trading hours, which I do appreciate. I do like their menu, of course it is mainly Italian with a good variation of pizzas and pasta; plus the dessert display was very attractive =Q___

Zanetti is OK for brekkie - even if you do have that brekkie at midday or later. We had their works breakfast after noon and it was good.
