Review Coco Cubano - Joondalup

Stuart Redmond
We really enjoy this place. Have been many times for breakfast on Sundays. Atmosphere is warm and fun. Food has always been great with little unique twists. Never been on an evening but bet it would be just as enjoyable.

Place wasn't too busy when I visited. I was greeted fairly welcoming. Total costs were about $28 for a fairly sized Cuban sandwich and a mojito (happy hour). Food was okay, vibe and atmosphere were really good - great deco and location. I would say my own experience would be fairly okay - not the best, but okay.
Anne Wallace
Solid. Good food at a great price. The burritos and quesadillas all got the thumbs up, and the Cuban sandwiches were a hit, as was the lychee mojito. 👍

Always such a positive experience here. The customer service and food are always of high quality and there is a such a good variety of food, I am always in two minds deciding which option to pick. Coco’s also do an excellent happy hour for a quick drink or catch up with the girls. The decor is also super quirky. Love this place!

Tried Coco Cubano for the first time the other night. The setting was quite nice and the wait staff were pleasant which is why I have given two stars instead of one. The food quality was incredibly poor for the prices that they were asking. Serving sizes were much smaller than expected and the meals were very bland with no options for condiments. Sadly won't be returning.

Have come here many times and the food is always great and always comes out really fast. Great coffee! Service is always amazing! Great atmosphere ☺️

We came here on Mother’s Day, honestly every plate, cup, fork, EVERYTHING smelled so eggy, I actually couldn’t eat my food, and it took them over 50 min to bring out our food (they’re weren’t even busy). Zero customer service zero food quality. Never coming back here again.
Cindy Morgan
My first time eating at Coco Cubano. I had the beef nachos. Beef mince tasted very bland. Instead of cheese they use this awful fake cheese runny sauce that is also bland. Worse beef nachos Ive ever tried.
Tracey Moores
We've been here 3 times over the last couple of months, always at the weekend, the staff are always friendly, the food is delicious and we've found we didn't have to wait long to get our meals, my husband loves the Cuban hot chocolate he says it's the best! That's a surprise as he never drinks anything like that normally
Nathan Borg
Exceptional service by all staff, food was not only cooked promptly but was incredible. Would definitely recommend Coco Cubano for an inviting and relaxed atmosphere. A great night out.

What a great experience! Loved the atmosphere with service to match. All staff were exceptional with their service and very attentive & even fulfilled all requests! The food was really authentic! It was amazing so much so we ordered a second round of tapas to try some more of the food! We are already planning our next visit back! Thanks for such a lovely evening!!
Rob Hillman
Popped in for the first time yesterday lunchtime and was disappointed to find a tapas bar that didn't know what a tapas was. Asked the staff for patatas bravas and she hadn't a clue what I was talking about. Apparently it's an Aussie joint with a lean towards Cuban tastes. It's just another bar/cafe and no better than the food hall stalls in the shopping centre.
Julie Polich Sapienza
Food was lovely & nice to get cold water with ice on the table & not just tap water. Service very good. The table next to us was served & received food before us, even though we were there 3-4 mins before them. Air con would of been nice especially as it was a muggy day.
Amanda Dow
A really great place.. yummy food, delicious drinks and the best cocktails. We will return for sure.

Great place, staff are really friendly, great atmosphere and great food ďż˝

Quaint comfortable place with great coffee. Had a wrap for lunch and definitely will have it again.

Top notch service, waiters are fun and friendly and outgoing. Can't fault the food as it is much better than most places that I know of aka dome and coffee club. This is my favourite place to come from now on keep up the good work coco
Robbie MacDonald
Loved this place! Great setting, very friendly staff and loved the coffee! Didn't try any good this time around, but will be sure to next time! ďż˝ 10/10 would seriously suggest treating yourself to a trip here
Makedonka Karevski
Amazing!!! Loved the atmosphere!!! Best coffee and waffle I've had!!! Can't wait to go back again soon...we need more places like this in Perth! Highly recommend it ďż˝

Was there Australia Day and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The young gentleman that served us was very polite and we did not have to wait long for our meals and drinks. Will definitely be back.
Renee Gold
I treated myself to brunch to 10.30 here, i offered the Cuban Eggs Benny, YUM! Bacon pulled pork spicy hollandaise sooo good. ďż˝

Won’t be rushing back to this one. I got the chicken fajitas, which were okay. I was expecting more of the Mexican style on a sizzling plate. It was still quite nice though. We also got the chicken nachos which were extremely average. The cheese wasn’t even properly melted and it was all just a bit sloppy. Quite a disappointment
S, L & Theo
Portion sizes are on the small side so allow for this when ordering. Drinks are typically full of ice (overkill) which often means 2 need to be ordered. Can become a pricey dining experience.

Food is ok. Menu is heavily dominated by meat* & the deep fryer with little options for vegos or those seeking healthy alternatives. This is what we received as nachos... melting cheese? That would require time and effort from the lazy staff.

Honestly, just avoid. You will be dissappointed.
Rosey Edwardes
Great setting, excellent wait staff but unfo food very average. Burger and burrito tasted as though just heated up in microwave. Fries were very nice though. I can imagine this is a great place to have drinks with friends.
Food4thought
Really nice decor n chilled South American vibe
Found the waitress a bit annoyed about the place being busy .. did not want to smile or be bothered to answer questions about the menu !!! Was flustered when we asked for some water and serveits for the table
Such a shame cuz service can really make customers come back ...
found the barista n the person at the till friendly and helpful
Food was average,. Ordered a fajita and coffee
Would not be recommending to friends
Michael Borg
I came here for breakfast and ordered the Cuban eggs benedict along with a coffee... delicious!

Really cool interior, tucked away outside Joondalup shopping centre. Will certainly come back here again.
Mel
Love this place. Love the interior feel of the restaurant and love the food. Have gone a few times for breakfast and always leave satisfied.
Marina Antich
This place is awesome .. the food is yum
Always fresh and tasty . A good little cafe in Joondalup , been here many times and each time it is well worth it
Kei
We accidentally discovered this place while looking for something to eat on a Sunday morning. I must say that it was a great find. Really in love with the interiors and ambience of this place! The food was above average. We ordered the Cuban take on the big breakfast and eggs benedict. The pulled pork and chilli powder on the eggs benedict made it that much yummier. Their prices is cheaper than your normal brunch places - so a definite plus!
Steven Andree
Food and coffee are delicious and you can't go past the breakfast bundle! Staff are really friendly and the place has a nice vibe. Underrated!
Ieat2much
Nice venue and set up...Been a few times...waffles were great and nice coffee...my last coffee felt like my cup was half empty...breakfast tasty
Ashlee Furzer
Tiny portion sizes, extremely over priced. We ordered the chicken burger and it had 2 tiny pieces of over cooked chicken, and hardly any slaw. Also ordered coco cubanito, again very small and had a tiny piece of pulled pork. Would not recommend and won’t be going back!
Maryam Kelissa
my mother and i decided to go there for lunch on the 11/02/18
we thought we would share the seafood basket (every time i get one at other cafes and restaurants they always have big portions) think again! it cost us $18.90 for a small basket with two tiny thin cocktail sized deep fried fish and two prawn pieces deep fried with 4 small cuts of calamari, and not to mention the smallest portion of fries.
i honestly couldn't believe it! i was shocked and this young waiter (who was lovely) came to serve that to us and i asked where was the rest! and he just gave me a blank look, he probably gets it all the time poor kid!
with the quality of the food, the seafood was good however the chips were too oily.

wont be going there again. no wonder its always empty.
Kudokun
Cozy and spacious place to chill and hangout with your buddies (especially after long shopping day!) Staffs were friendly and foods were great (although a bit pricey.....)
Tiffany West
Great friendly service... and thats about it.
Overpriced food with miniscule portion sizes that will leave you wanting to go to maccas after. Soz guys, wont get my company again!
Mike Stark
$75 for a light lunch for 3 with no alcohol. Small portions, not that great quality and grossly overpriced. Won't go there again. Staff are pleasant though.
Nicole Simpson
Beautiful food in a beautiful restaurant! Definitely planning a revisit! Lovely staff with reasonable pricing. They even have little blankets you can put on your lap if you get cold!
Moozieman
Very relaxed atmosphere and quick friendly staff. It has improved since last visit. Sadly no Cuban beer available but plenty of drinks choices . My chicken mojo was fresh and tasty, spicy and the Cuban rice was delicious. I would go again

Went out for dinner tonight to this Cuban inspired restaurant. It was busy but we easily got a table without a booking. The place is really nice inside! To start we got corn chips and guacamole, which was okay. For drinks we had the passion fruit granita and the passion Bellini. They were both really nice. For mains I had the Buena vista chicken Cuban sandwich with chips. This came in a basket, with the sandwich wrapped in paper. It was yummy but the chips were so bland and boring, it was a bit underwhelming. My fiancée had the southern chicken burger which he really didn’t like as it was very dry with hardly any sauce. I’m glad we had an entertainment book voucher as I don’t think the whole dinner was worth over $60. Would only recommend if you’re in the area.

Me and my girlfriend just visited this place today and based on our first visit today, the food is actually rather good. We ordered havana beef street sandwich which really good 4.5/5, and some chicken fajitas 4/5. We also ordered hot chocolate and a moccha, and it does also not disappoint us. We would rate 4/5 for the drinks. Service is okay, and the atmosphere is unique. We think they've also narrrowed down their menu (a bit different to the one on zomato, by the time we saw it today) maybe for efficiency of time to make them or to keep things fresher, which we appreciate since that way we know that they've responded to some of the reviews before this one. The waitress also told us beforehand that the waiting time would be 15 to 20 minutes (the place was pretty crowded that time). Portion size was not too big, but hey we're almost full by the end of our meals.
Shashi
Love the venue, love the ambience and vibe. The pina colada mocktail was really good. Plantains crisp and tasty, and the dip plate with chorizos is well flavored without being a huge portion. The churros were a bit disappointing, doughy and lacking the crispness that makes churros great.

It's a nice place for drinks after work, with a great cocktail selection. Wish there was a bigger tapas and food selection however - Cuban food isn't just burgers..
Pass this place many times and finally went in and tried. Good drink and nice decor and ambience. The service is not excellent but above standard. Will come back again.
Konnesewer
Lovely service.
Food was very dissappointing.
Beef burrito and Mojo chicken ordered, neither had much flavour.
Would definitely not recommend if you are wanting to satisfy any taste buds.
Mallory Foster
Was very unimpressed. Eggs were so cold felt like they'd been put in the fridge before being served. Was very much looking forward to having a coffee but was disappointed as coffee was so burnt it was undrinkable probably won't be returning in a hurry.
Rah Rah
Was very underwhelmed by the breakfast I had at Coco Cubano. I had the Healthy Start, which looked so good but fell flat when it came to taste. The avocados weren't ripe and were too hard, the sauce was watery and lacked flavour and one egg was soft poached and the other hard poached. Our meals took way longer to come out than they should, considering the place was pretty much empty, but on the plus side, the staff were friendly and helpful. I won't be heading back here in a hurry.
Mike
- Excellent decor, positioned outside of Perth's largest shopping mall
- Well priced, reasonable value for money, but as expected for a franchise-type restaurant
- Service is attentive, welcoming environment

So if you have an issue with my review or how I word my review, please feel free to skip it. I welcome constructive criticism but will not tolerate personal attacks on my family or myself.

This has come about due to some trolls who have made remarks of a personal nature to myself that I feel/felt was unnecessary and not contributing to the establishment being reviewed.

But I digress, onto the review.

We made a booking for 6 pm for this restaurant as we want to try Cuban fare for a change. Hmm, decor was interesting and love some of the sitting arrangement with the comfortable chairs.

The Big Boss went with the chicken jalapenos, the Little Boss went with the Beef Burger and I chose El Cubano.

For the tapas size of the chicken jalapenos, the Big Boss was pretty satisfied with the serve size and the amount. It was fresh and tangy and not overly heavy in my opinion. The beef burger is a beef burger. No complaints for the Little Boss so it must be ok. As for my El Cubano, it was a good serve size, bread was nicely toasted and good serve size of pulled chicken and ham.

We also had the passionfruit Mojito and the salted caramel espresso martini. The mojito was very freshing and the espresso martini had a kick to it.

The food was good and yummy and I had no issues with it. Service staff attentive and quick to check on you. Probably my biggest issue is that the air-conditioning could not keep with the heat from today (38 degrees). I believe that we would have enjoyed our meal better with cooler weather.

Granted it was Monday night, but my husband and I were child free and neither fancied cooking. On arrival, we queried if the restaurant was open (6.45pm, so not late), as we received a pretty disinterested look from the wait staff. Having been informed that, yes, it was, we were then shown to our seats and given menus, then asked straight away what we wanted.....well a chance to glimpse the menu in the first instance would have been nice. Whilst waiting for our food, which came out promptly enough, but was of fairly average standard (burrito and a burger), another member of staff decided it would add to the ambiance of the place to start hoovering around. This continued throughout our entire meal. Not a pleasurable experience at all. On making my feelings known to the manager, we were offered a 15% discount, which was fair enough, but needless to say I won't be returning here again any time soon.
FineDiners
Great, attentive service. We enjoyed our food and I definitely enjoyed my frośe. Could definitely go back and try their other food and drink options. Some of the other cocktails sound amazing too... not sure I'd be able to choose :P.

Visited this evening, Friday 10 feb. The guys there are always friendly and the service is quick. The drinks collection is nice. I had the chilli chicken burger and it was plenty and delivered fast. The service was great as always. Love their coffee too.
Great waiters/waitresses
Nice decor
Omnomnomnivore
Hubby and a have quite different tastes in food, but there was something to appease both of us here! He got a steak and I had the pulled pork with Cuban rice - both were good sized portions and tasted fantastic! The mojitos were great too - not so minty that it masked the taste of the rum. We didn't go full Cubano and opted out with the cigars (another day perraps)! All up, with entrees and the churros plate to share, it set us back about $90 after the entertainment book discount. 👍 the staff were lovely, and I'm always happy when the decor of an eatery complements the food, rather than competing / overshadowing it.

Great customer service :)
Went in for my birthday they didn't have the waffle so a lady served a slice of the Nutella peanut cake
Absolutely delicious
Thank you :)
TifWM
Nice place to have drinks but not to have food. Calamari was average cause its frozen food. Medium rare steak came as well done. Chicken burger with only 2 tenderloins in it. Def not coming back again.

Lunch with some old (ex, not ancient) work colleagues here yesterday. The service was good, the menu interesting & the food really excellent. I heartily recommend the mushroom/rice dish with haloumi. It was delicious!
Hayden
Top service & Good food! Waiters are fun and friendly and outgoing. This is my favourite place to come from now on keep up the good work!!!!

Went with my wife for a quick lunch. Had chicken mojo : a delicious meal with grilled chicken tenders, Cubano rice and chilli sauce. It was yummie : soft chicken and flavoursome rice. Also tried Cubano chicken burger. It was also delicious and importantly not dry like in many other places. Burger was a nice blend of chicken, Swiss cheese, bacon, pickles, mustard and aioli. Caffe latte was good too. The staff were very cordial too.
Dpizzy
This place has a nice look to it but the food is very average and isn't worth spending money on a meal out. I probably would not step foot in this place again.
TheKnifeForkSpoonAndStraw
Visited just last Sunday. Was very busy but managed to get a nice table inside. Couldn't resist ordering the Cubano with chips, very well done and the service was very good. Definitely a great place for all of you melted cheese lovers, and a very comfortable place to visit. Will be back!
David Gelle
Great atmosphere, great food. It's as simple as that, exactly what I wanted for a relaxing lunch!Recommend anything with their chicken(salads or burgers) it is cooked beautifully and very tasty.
4 Bean Mix
A lovely looking restaurant with plenty of seating inside and out - and a convenient location. The staff are attentive and nice. The serving sizes are really good value too. The only thing I can fault is probably the wait time for food. Their vegetarian nachos are super filling and flavorsome.
Hungry Hippo
Came here for a quick drink and desserts. Had the strawberry and banana waffles and a plate of churros to share. The waffles were so hard and chewy. The caramel sauce (obviously from a can) nearly made my teeth fall out. It was utterly sweet that we couldn't consume it. The churros were burnt and it was difficult to cut through with a knife!

The banana bomb shake had no flavour and the mango and lime granita was simply a concoction of lime rind and ice.

The service today was also terrible. Cutlery wasn't provided for the table and when we asked the waitress was huffy about it. Do your job lady! Won't be rushing back for sure.
Janet Hutchens
We went to this cute restaurant/cafe today for lunch. We enjoyed a great grilled chicken salad, beautifully presented and delicious. The coffee was very good. We sat in a booth, and very much enjoyed our visit!
Jae Lauren
Nice place, friendly and accomodating to my kids. Food and drinks were good and fairly priced. The only thing I didn't like was when paying by card they ask you to swipe it yourself and one of the prompts asks you how much you want to leave for a tip. Once I pressed $0 the waiters attitude changed and it was as if he couldn't wait to see us leave.
My Thoughts
Worst customer service, no one paid attention to our table we ordered drinks and the waitress walked away without asking if we were ready to order... waited 40mins before she came back and asked if we had order with menus still on our table... so obviously not!! Decided not to stay! Waste of time!!
Bec Hovell
Sis-in-law went into the restaurant yesterday to book a table of 5, rocked up tonight n they didn't have our booking n said we'd have to wait for a table when rest was half empty... Not cool
Nifty Nosh
Quick bite with Lil Sis on a Thursday nite in this funky venue. S&P Calamari and Prawn Chorizo & Haloumi, both dishes were tasty but pricey for the size. Service was a bit lax considering it was fairly quiet. Used our Ent Book so all up with two glasses of wine $50.00

My partner and I love this place! The food was lovely (we had the chicken mojo and grilled chicken salad) and the service was great. The waitstaff were genuinely really friendly and helpful. The service was also very prompt, and we were eating within about 15minutes of being seated. The atmosphere of this place is also great. Very laid back and relaxing, despite always being busy! Reasonably priced cocktails, even if the food is a little pricey. Both myself and my partner were very impressed! :)
Stacey
Used to come here and the food and presentation was very good, and effort was visible - but went for brekky today and was utterly dissapointed. Ordered the Cuban Sandwich, Cuban Eggs Benedict and Smashed Avo on toast; and the food was very average. Cuban Eggs Benedict was tasty and looked good but one of the poached eggs was broken and therefore overcooked and did not look appetising, whereas the Sandwich and Smashed avo presentation was lacking and looked extremely average; it didn't match what was promised on the menu. Overall this experience has put me off coming again, unless they lift their game and put more love into their food. But this review is only regarding breakfast service, perhaps the lunch and dinner services are more promising :)

Affordable prices and good food, I keep going back! Recommend the beef burrito and the mushroom and rice salad with grilled chicken. The interior design of this restaurant is cool and unique, going with the retro Cuban vibe. Love it! There's a Max Brenner next door but dessert is so good at Coco Cubano, there is no need to go there! Service could probably be a tad better during busy times - they seemed pretty stressed on Mother's day and it showed in their interaction with patrons.
Lila
Great menu and I am loving the crazy milkshakes! The food was good, drinks were great but service lacking. Staff seemed unsure and unprofessional. After being seated we chose our meals and proceeded to watch three people seated just in the outdoor area and served before us. Was some mix ups with the order. If the staff were friendlier and more competent I would rate a lot higher.
Diego
Very disappointed. Had a Belgian waffle and ordered it with caramel sauce in stead of chocolate sauce. My friend ordered the Beef Burrito. We waited 30 minutes for our 2 simple meals and that only after I called one of the wait staff to find out what has happened to our order. The restaurant was not busy..... Waffle arrived with chocolate sauce and when I pointed it out that I ordered with caramel sauce I was offered a side of caramel sauce.......that is not the point..... Burrito looks better on the menu than what it tastes or looks like on the plate. Will never return.....

After waiting about half an hour we finally received our coffees, unfortunately they were not hot and my friend ordered defac but was given regular.
We waited about another 20 minutes or so until I received my food. The bread was not toasted, poached eggs weren't runny, bacon was undercooked, the hollandaise sauce didn't taste right- was sort of just like mayonnaise. The whole meal was cold. My friend ordered the same thing and her meal didn't arrive. By this stage it had been about an hour since we ordered so we decided to speak to staff about this. Tried to speak to a staff member who didn't seem to understand English, didn't respond to me and just went to tell another staff member, she was quite rude.
We explained that we were still waiting on one meal and the other was cold to the guy behind the counter. He was very nice and apologetic and we only paid for our coffees.
Think they may have been understaffed today, I would have excused the long wait if the food was good but unfortunately it wasn't nice at all, certainly not worth the money. Sorry, but I won't be going back.

We went to Coco Cubano in Joondalup today with my partner. I really enjoyed it. it wasn't busy at all. It seems to be the best time to go. It was such a cute restaurant, you could tell they’d put a lot of effort into the place and the experience. The burgers were a bit pricey (we are students), but you didn’t mind because it was so well flavoured and so tasty, and not massive and greasy like other places I have been. I would definitely go back there again.
Rebekah Bruce
Great food. Excellent staff. Lovely atmosphere.
I've got some funny food intolerances and the kitchen brainstormed ideas for me and gave me options for alternatives. First time this has happened for me! Thanks to everyone there :) you made my night!
Shaylee Hohapata
We came here when it first opened and I was excited to finally get a new restaurant in Joondalup. Unfortunately my hopes of it being a new local diminished. The presentation of the food wasn't great (I could've done better myself) and over all it was pretty average.

I feel like I want to give it another try but I'd rather travel for good food.
Lee7
Nice looking establishment with interesting decor. Service was very good, we were seated promptly and water brought immediately to the table. Two of us ordered chicken tortillas, which were very good. Our companion ordered one of the sandwiches, which was poorly presented as an open baguette, with the contents therein completely smothered in their signature green sauce. I would gave doubted you could taste anything else. Dessert was underwhelming, with the most successful one being the doughnut balls. We also ordered a sundae and the citrus cheesecake. The sundae was plated up on a dinner plate. Yep, doesn't work very well like that. Plantains were tasteless, unless you count the chip oil they were obviously fried in as a taste. Churros a bit dry and overdone. Otherwise it was an unremarkable dish. The citrus cheesecake is massively oversweet, and topped off with caramel sauce, just to make sure. Probably wouldn't go back, plenty of other places with better food.
DM
Went here for lunch with friends, food was nice and a cute looking cafe but waitress was very miserable and seemed like she didn't want to be serving us.
Taste Bud
Service was friendly but portion size and presentation of meals is a joke. 5 small prawns on wilted lettuce and blackened corn is their version of a prawn cocktail. Totillas are wafer thin and are accompanied by a teaspoon of guacamole. Salads look ok on the thin top layer - what hides beneath is a bowl stacked with black beans and rice. Appalling value all round. Coco is worse than 'so so'.
Jasmine King
Went here for breakfast, very disappointing. The place wasnt too busy but still took long for simple dishes to come to our table. We ordered granola and avocadoon toast. Absolute joke. Granola was a handul of oats with couple dollops of yoghurt with fruit served on a plate. Whilst the avocado was pureed on soggy barsly toasted bread. Left most of it on the plates and had to go somehwere else to get more food afterwards
George
A little over priced for small portions
calamari was great though!
Needs more of a rum range but I'm an alcoholic so that's just me being judgemental
Very lovely place though
Bought an over priced cigar, was a cool little thing but after smoking it I'll stick to the devlins cigar shop for my cigars
RaMsaY
Reading the other reviews on this place my experience would of had to be the same service is shocking we had to go up and complain because 3 tables including ours had not been serviced its like they had just sat us down and buggered off and forgot about us, when the food came small portions and did not feel that connection with the food at all and the theme they were putting out on the menu which had been completely changed twice we got told by a waiter the restaurant itself is nice the fit out and everything, its just a shame that the important things to really make it so great has failed. I wont be back and if management don't fix it the customers will be the same.
MonaLisa
Wish we would have gone somewhere else when the waitress said food takes about 20min. It took exactly 40min to get a Cubano sandwich, calamari and fries. Calamari were totally overcooked, dry and dark, also the fries. The best thing about Coco Cubano is the inside decor, but for food don't bother. We won't be back.
Frances Sanders
First time visiting Coco Cubano, they had started a new menu that day so a little bit of disorganisation was expected however the entire experience was a let down. The waiters were completely unfamiliar with the menu, we waited nearly an hour for our food and when it did arrive it was cold and they had made several mistakes. The atmosphere is quite nice but overall it was very disappointing.
Kayti King
So disappointed because the fit out and inside decor is so cosy! Portions were small, service was shocking. One waiter was on to attend tables (we just went to the counter), make drinks and be on counter. Wouldn't come back. We had to ask for napkins, side plates and cutlery. Drinks weren't cold
Little Piggy
I have been to Coco Cubano on numerous occasions and been pretty disappointed with the service. The restaurant is lovely and the food isn't too bad maybe slightly over priced for what you receive but the service is by far the biggest let down, The first time I went the staff didn't seem to even have sections and had no idea whether we had to go up and order or not. I asked about three people for a bottle of water but no one returned with it so I had to go up and get it myself. On another occasion my mum and me waited over 10 mins and no one came to see us so we left. However my last visit there was a major improvement in service so I hope that it continues,

Since my last post, I’ve changed jobs and now I’m based in Joondalup until my contract ends in December. Since my last job in Joondalup back in 2013, there’s been a lot of change to the Lakeside Shopping Centre, with big names opening such as H&M, Ben & Jerry’s, Mama Tran, a Myer department store and in 2016 there will be an Aldi store opening as well.
Lauren Gillies
Chili cheese fries- super disappointing and tasted like hungry jacks. Spicy chicken tacos- awesome but could do with a little extra something
Rachel Williamson
Every time I come here the service is awful. The staff are always apologetic yet they always blame it on another member of staff. I'm not quite sure why that is. Saying that, the sweet potato wedges here are insanely good and also I love the decor!
Dots
Our breakfasts well prepared and well presented. The service was good - we did not have to wait too long and the waiter returned during the meal to check that all was going ok. It great to have another outdoor option for Lakeside Shopping Centre and we'll definitely be back.
Sarah Samuels
Always an amazing experience. Food is yummy, atmosphere is great. Staff are always welcoming...A little bit of Cuba in Perth!.. it a must go.
MJ Amerito
Visited Coco Cubano yesterday late afternoon (4.30ish) what was good = quick turn around for orders (though there were only 2-3 tables), the decor is cute and staff seem friendly enough but the food is ridiculously overpriced. Paying over $10 for a plate of tapas you would expect substantially more than what is served. E.g. the plantain chips are only really half a plantain's worth served with twice as much guacamole and sour cream that could ever be distributed on such a small serving. The cocktails were nice, but quite weak. We wanted to order dessert but none of the 6+ staff members returned to our table after we were served our dishes so we decided to go without. Probably wouldn't be back, unless I won the lotto and could waste money on food willy nilly.
Sahil Aggarwal
We ordered Nachos and chicken wrap. Food was very average. The drinks (milkshake and iced coffee) were horrible (way too sweet). The service was okay - it wasn't very busy.
Kxk
Came here for lunch on a Tuesday. My partner was impressed by the decor. We'd ordered the Chargrilled Salmon ($22.90), Flathead Fillets and Chips ($17.90), Sweet Potato Wedges ($5) and a Lychee Mojito Cocktail ($7.90). Serving sizes of the food are on the smaller side. The Chargrilled Salmon was overcooked, the rocket had a chemical taste to it and the avocado wedge was not ripe. The mint in the Mojito was rather old as the stalks were brown.

The food is not completely horrible, it's the service of this place which is the major let down. It was not a busy day. We had to wait over 20 minutes for water after asking three times and two different waitresses. Our drink oder had to be repeated a few times before the waitress understood the order. The food came out in dribs and drabs. The table to our right stayed dirty for half of our stay. When it was finally cleaned and a new table was sat down they had to get their own menus as they'd waited so long. The table to our left were talking about how disgusting the chocolate with their Churros were.

I did look at the reviews before we came to eat here and I wished I has listened to them.

This place is a newby to the Joondalup area. Only been open a few months. First feel is that they haven't really got the Cuban feel down pat. Needs a bit more colour in the decor, looks too neat and plastic.

The food is average, however the scotch fillet is pretty good.

The sangria is actually great and by far the best thing about the place.

Complete utter rubbish. Today is again the day I leave a Perth venue feeling incredibly ripped off for the price you paid. Tapas are very bland and portion size do not match up again prices.

1. Olives - bland tossed in with charred remnants of capsicum. Must admit the olive bar at Coles has much better selection.
2. Grilled haloumi- more like floured then deep fried bland cheese which literally tastes like chewing a cardboard box. Do believe the box would provide my satisfaction
3. Calamari- seems like pacific west is the supplier of choice with this bland mix not even the aioli complimented this dish.
4. Patatas bravas- potato chunks deep fried topped with spicy tomato sauce and garlic sauce. Indeed how can you stuff up a simple dish, top seemed edible just and then you get to bottom and find soggy potato swimming in liquid. Honestly pathetic
5. Garlic cheese pizza- seriously lacking the garlic flavour and wow factor.
6. Mojito- for a venue which prides itself on such cocktails I would have to admit the Balinese make a better mojito. Your recipe lacked the punch and zing and not to mention did I have a non alcoholic version???

Overall this venue has a lot to learn staff product knowledge very shameful, ambience is dead and boring even a little cottage room tea house in the valley has more than you. Staff seem to extinct until you goth pay and you then see 3 others willing to help. One last thing we have been dating for well over 4 years and no we don't need to split bill rude disrespectful and not necessary at all.

Close the shop one day lift your standards train your staff and maybe then I'll return.

In the meantime don't waste your time

I wish I could say all the other reviews are wrong. Service is shocking! No experienced wait staff. I waited 10 mins with people walking past me at the wait to be seated time before someone finally acknowledged me and when I asked for a table outside I was told to seat myself and pay at the bar. Food was below avg and not very unique. Won't be returning unfortunately!! I so badly wanted the reviews to be wrong 😩

Do not even waste your time coming here. Terrible food, tiny portions and extremely long wait times. The restaurant was freezing inside and the food was dull and flavourless. The food didn't all come out at the same time so it was sitting at our cold table until we were able to eat together. I will never be coming back here.

During our lunch outing the service was below average. The wait was over 30 minutes and after having sent the food back due to the incorrect special order being delivered, it came back - once again incorrect and by this time the rest of the table had finished their lunch.

I have always enjoyed going to Coco Cabana. Last week Wednesday 23 Aug I went for a coffee. Sat down was given a menu. Waited for waitress to come back to tale my order - she walked out the door - she had been sitting at a counter withh her feet up . The other waitress was sitting at the same bench talking on her mobile and then texting - still no service. WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED so walked out.
This Wednesday the 2 September I thought I would try again. COULD NOT BELIEVE MY EYES there sat the waitress again on her mobile. Where is management.

Walked in with a friend and the feel of the place is nice, friendly and quite a homey feeling with the set up of different couches and sofas to sit at.
We were quickly greeted and seated. My friend and I decided to go with the tapas and ordered the fried calamari, cheesy chilli fries, grilled prawn and chorizo, beef sliders and spiced chicken tapas.
The food all came out relatively quick and all around the same time.
What I first noticed was my cheesy chilli fries didn't have the chilli salt that was described on the menu - "tossed in chilli salt". There was no salt on the fries at all actually.. But the chips were crispy and there was a good amount of cheese and jalapeĂąos.
Next I tried the spiced chicken tapas, there wasn't much flavour to the chicken and guacamole, so I kind of added a bit of lemon that came with the calamari and grilled prawn and chrizo and added a bit of salt, But on the plus side the chicken was nicely cooked and quite juicy. I wasn't much fan of the grilled prawn and chorizo, the tomato sauce that it came in was quite watery and tasted a bit like it came from a can. But the prawns were cooked just right! So that's a plus. The calamari were great, my favourite of the dishes we ordered, nice and crispy and they weren't chewy and rubbery. Finally I got to the slider, unfortunately i felt the brioche was quite stale and the sauce that was in the slider over powered everything. So essentially all I could taste was stale bread and sauce...
Overall a pretty average meal.

My friend and I went at lunchtime and the service was fine... The hot chocolate was to die for and my main meal was nice (I had the beef mini sliders and shared fries) but a little on the cool side. I liked the ambience. Would definitely try it again.

Beautiful setting but cold food that we sent back, chilli fries were terrible. charged $2.50 per burger for extra jalapenos & got given 2 of them. Terrible service!

I've been here twice now. Lovely little setup, cosy & welcoming.
Food both times was amazing.
The only thing letting them down is the service.
Waited half an hour to be served
Asked for water - never got it.
Ordered 2 x kids meals, & tapas to share with a friend.
One kids meal came out first, 5 minutes later the tapas & after asking twice another 10 minutes later the other kids meal. Why weren't the kids meals brought out at the same time??

Came here on a Wednesday night with a group of 3 and was surprised on how busy the place was. I love the interior of this place and there was a very welcoming vibe inside the restaurant. The staff were all friendly and attentive aswell. Food wise is really good for its value. I recommend the sweet potato chips they were AMAZING. The ribs were also delicious. Would come back for a girls night out!

Cannot complain about the food here at all, everything was tasty, and the food arrived very quickly. Service is confused though, I wouldn't say bad just confused. Struggled to make a reservation (3 unanswered phone calls, and an unanswered email) and on arrival was told we had to wait for a table. Twice waitstaff brought drinks to our table that we had not ordered and had to wait for a second drink so they could run out and buy more rum (why is all the rum gone?) It also pays to check your receipt more closely than I did as we ended up being charged for the 2 drinks that were incorrectly brought to us but I hadn't noticed until I got home. The Cubano club and all the plantain dishes are amazing but be prepared for the confused service, hopefully in time they will improve.

Coco Cubano is an Australian chain of Cuban restaurants that has recently added a Western Australian store to its existing ones in New South Wales and Queensland. The local store is located on the outside of Lakeside Joondalup shopping centre, right next door to Max Brenner. It’s open from 7am until late seven days a week, so you can get a “Cuban” fix at any time of day.
MEGA FOODIE
Very small portions and plain food. Fast service but that sometimes can be a bad sign. My partner enjoyed the pork burger but he could of ate 6 of them. The chicken tapas were an absolute upset....Very plain, dry, tiny and boring! Very nice place to sit and eat with great atmosphere but the food was a let down. Also more training with the staff could be beneficial.

Both times I went here I enjoyed good food, good coffee and good service! Not to mention its a cute little cafe with a cool vibe. Will keep going back.
Cake Face
I was so excited for this to open - some Cuban spice in Joondalup!

We sat inside because it was rather chilly, and despite being in the staffs direct line of site, were forgotten! Good coffee. TERRIBLE service. Food was fast, but disappointing - almost too fast as if it was just microwaved.
Manager was sympathetic but we asked for out drinks no less than 5 times. Yes, seriously.
Would go back for a quick coffee but that's it unfortunately.

Was excited to try but was sadly disappointed. Waited about an hour for 2 burgers and a glass of water. Staff told us they forgot about us... ?! When the food eventually came it was stone cold (I'm assuming it had been sitting there waiting to be served to us) instead we were offered a free drink to make up for it. It's a cute place with potential if they fix up their customer service skills.

Food was amazing. The pulled beef sliders were fresh and delicious. Chorizo and prawn dish was flavoursome and the haloumi was brilliant. All round good experience but service was very disappointing. We had to ask for cutlery and plates for our tapas and only after we ordered were we told there was a 30 minute wait for food
My Tastebuds
I was so excited for this to open. We were greeted by a friendly welcoming staff member. We decided to sit outside because they had outdoor heaters on. We ordered the cubano club meal - came with a side of wedges. The wedges were sweet, with cinnamon on them I think? They tasted like a cinnamon sugar doughnut. Enjoyable. The cubano club was delicious. There's some kind of spicy sauce on the sandwich A lil spicy for my liking. I also ordered a cocktail. Unfortunately they didn't have their liquor licence yet. So a mango mocktail was what I ended up having. Can't wait to have it with alcohol! The restaurant is very cool. Definitely has a Cuban vibe to it. Manager was friendly and came to see how we were going. Looking forward to going back to try something different.
Hungry Caterpillar
First time I came with my mum on a Sunday afternoon for some coffee. Was quite impressed with the atmosphere of the place. Coffees were good and we ordered the sweet potato chips to share, which were slightly too salty but still yum!

After looking at the menu, we decided to make a booking for dinner the following Tuesday. We specifically asked for a particular table by the window as it looked comfortable and cozy and the booking staff, whom looked like a manager/supervisor, wrote it down. I was a bit concerned that the staff was writing our booking down on a piece of paper that looked like scrap paper. Obviously they have yet to buy a proper bookings planner!

When we got to dinner on Tuesday with the rest of the family, they 'checked' our booking and sat us down at a table meant for 8, even though we only had 5. It was not the table we booked, which were taken by other customers. We asked the wait staff why we weren't given the table we asked for but the first one looked a bit too intimidated and did not come back to explain. We asked a different, more senior looking staff, who said he would go to check. Apparently they had 'expected the other customers to leave by now', even though it was obvious that the customers had not ordered food yet. After some fashion, we were offered free drinks for the mix up. While it was a nice gesture, we still would have preferred if the restaurant was better organised.

The food can only be described as average. Average prices, average quality and taste. Cuban slaw had no flavour and was rather dry. Pizza okay, burger okay, BBQ ribs okay (tender but could have had more sauce). Servings were quite big.

Overall, a memorable night only because the restaurant was VERY COLD (no heating and the doors were wide open on a chilly winter night) and they mixed up our booking. Hopefully they improve their game as it has the potential to be a good restaurant.

All I can say is, amazing! Ribs were amazing as was the vegetarian pizza! Staff friendly and accommodating. Excellent and new furnishings make it very comfortable. Can't wait to go back.
Visited here for lunch with a friend and had a wonderful experience, pulled pork sandwich was divine and the haloumi salad was beautiful, a tad too much dressing and perhaps a few more sweet potato wedges would be great. But couldn't fault service and atmosphere! Definitely be back

My first time visiting Coco cubano and the service was great.
lovely staff and very efficient.
I really enjoyed the food the halloumi salad was my favorite.
I also had a hot chocolate, made from melted chocolate, not powdered.
So creamy and not to rich.
Will definitely go back.considering they have only just opened I think they are doing an amazing job and will only get better.
Simmybear Eats
My very good friend has been working on opening this restaurant for some quite some time now. When I first walked in, I was impressed with the fit out of the place. It was so nice that I had to face time my girlfriend and show her. The menu was very limited as it was their first soft opening event but still seemed appetizing. I got the pulled beef burrito and sweet potato chips that were nice. The sweet potato chips were too salty but the waiter happily exchanged them and they were much better afterwards. I also got the breakfast waffles which were a good finish to my meal. They are still trying to get their liquor license so when they do I will be sure to come back and try their famous ribs!

When we first went there we had to wait 30 minutes for a takeaway burger, when the person I front only waited 10 minutes. The burger was average at best.

Firm believer in second chances! Next visit I ordered the waygu deluxe, it was delicious. Best burger in Joondalup by far.

Sloppy service, but not sloppy burgers :)

Been here twice. First time was better than the second. Had the Pizza and my partner had the burger was nice. Second time we came for my Sister's birthday. Ordered the Toasted sandwhich with pulled pork it was nice, but my sister ordered the same thing and when she got it she couldn't eat it as it had chilli in it but on the menu there was no mention of chilli in the meal. My mother ordered the scotch fillet, she was still waiting for it after quite awhile,we left it was way too long. The staff, well need more training one plonked all the potplants on the table and then she moved them to the chair when we told her we were expecting another guest she just ignored us and left them there. Another thing too, don't get your staff to refill the cutlery while people are at the table eating,it's a bit rude.
Manager did apologise to us, I will try again one day. We got our meal we had for free which was nice of him but we will wait til we come back again, still new and teething problems. Went this morning for our free coffee and anyway the lady manager was rude and said i had to buy one coffee and get a free one I said no these a both complimentary from the time I had a bad experience. As the manager gave me a few of these free drink cards from our previous bad experience dining. She made me pay extra 60 cents to get a double shot in a regular takeaway coffee when the voucher was free. I think she was very rude and needs some customer service skills.

The redevelopment at Lakeside Joondalup just keeps giving and giving! We were lucky enough to be one of the very first customers at Coco Cubano after I spotted it opening up on Friday afternoon. As we walked in I was immediately struck by the very impressive fit-out. It’s a fab looking café-bar and a very welcome addition to Joondalup – it would be a great pre/post cinema spot on date night!
