Review Savoy Cafe Restaurant - Katoomba

Love this place! I got the eggs Benedict, my partner got a big breakfast and they were both absolutely amazing and perfectly cooked. Great prices. Service and coffee were amazing as well.

Pasta is not salted, sauce is not well mixed, taste like can food. Burger, lettuce is not fresh, and gave me some old lettuce, below fast food standard.

A had an excellent Big Breakfast $19 at Savoy. 2 eggs, bacon, sausage, grilled tomato, hash browns and toast Huge serving. Lovely staff, just 1 minutes walk from Katoomba Train station

Every time I come here it's always a pleasant experience. I used to always get the Veal until they changed to the new menu. Still a great place to eat and the atmosphere is brilliant. Staff are friendly and always happy for a chat if they aren't rushed off their feet.

The staff forgot to come and take our order despite being told she would do so after she finished making a drink for another customer. She then proceeded to assist 3 new customers as well as taking one of their orders. I went to counter and pointed out we were still waiting, she did not apologise and when she came to where we were seated we were told that what we wanted was only on the dinner menu, we had chosen what we wanted from a list on the window from outside titled Savoy Specials nothing g stated it was dinner only. She showed us the lunch menu which we could not find anything we wanted so we left. If you are looking for good service and being treated with respect I would highly recommend NOT going to the Savoy in Katoomba.

Prices are competitive of the Savoy in London. It’s been just over 24hrs and I’m still waiting on my latte. I’m pretty patient, but think of it as my donation to your business, You keep it. Overall the food was uninspiring, but wholesome. Busy place.

Excellent. Went three times in two days, burgers were good for lunch & breakfasts (twice) were fantastic. Really friendly staff and nice & clean & fast service. Good coffee too. Will be back.

Pizza was great and so were the wedges

You're never going to get an amazing meal at the Savoy, it's just your stock standard, reliable, affordable Australian diner. They're one of the only restaurants open late in Katoomba, you can always rely on them for a decent feed, and the prices are pretty much what you'd expect to pay for burgers or nachos. I'm glad they're still kicking on after so many years.

Afternoon coffee was required and one of the few places that was still open in the late afternoon so that was much appreciated. Located on Katoomba Street, this was more a cafe/restaurant offering a coffee service. The service was swift and friendly. Ordered a Mocha and it was pretty good tasting.

I read some horrible reviews after order then my expectation might be so low but food was a big portion and tastes pretty good too. The waitress who served us was kind and nice (but other waitress seems grumpy tho)

Budget friendly BYO restaurant. To start with we ordered Herb bread. The bread was soggy and it would have been good if it was toasted/cripsy. And for mains we went for steak pie and rump steak. The food isn't mind blowing or anything. Just ordinary. I personally din't like the steak pie as the gooey sauce in the pie was extremely salty. Meat was good quality but overall nothing great.

Coffee is awesome, I can sense a slightly cocoa taste on the espresso.
Piccolo also nice, I didn’t expected this coffee shop is producing an awesome coffee.
They do have $3.50 each cookies in the jar, much more cheaper compare with the same brand “ whisk and pin”.
Chocolate brownies was nice dark chocolate flavour, and the oat cookies was loaded with dry fruits, and fig is the dominant one.

Good vibe, coffee was solid, big brekky was only like 13 or 14 bucks! Staff were nice. 140 characters long this post is now I’ve put the extra in
You get what you pay for here! Cheap meals and the quality to go with it. I had a chicken Parma, the chicken was ok, the sauce way too much and for some reason they put olives on top. Weird combo but overall for $19 it was ok. The staff were very polite but seem to be undertrained as there was a bit of confusion between a few of the tables.

Visited the Savoy today with the family and in-laws

We were very lucky to get a table to accomodate all of us as the place is very busy. All around people were enjoying their meals. The atmosphere was inviting.

The food was very nice - we ordered:
2 portuguese chicken burger meals
1 cheese burger meal
1 Chicken schintzel meal
With bacon rashers on the side

Overall the food was tasty and all the dishes were finished which was a good sign.

This cafe felt like a time warp! Simplistic, quirky Art Deco styling and attentive and friendly service was matched with nice coffee and a fresh, fast and tasty breakfast (it was also well priced, which was a lovely surprise!). We just loved our visit and will definitely return next time we're in the area.

Crap service....two hours for meal to arrive (breakfast). Twit acting as waitress with bad attitude and smartarse mouth.
Wrong coffees delivered to us, and weren't interested in replacing them. Cutlery covered with dried food stains

Avoid this place and go a few doors down to the Mountain Ridge cafe......great food, friendly, polite and helpful staff

We waited 45 mins for steak with mashed potato & salad and chicken schnitzel & chips. The steak came first, asked for medium, but it was a big portion of meat cooked uneven and very hard, mushroom source was plain, mashed potato was plain and packaged like.
Chicken schnitzel was thin and in small pieces ( it's pretty strange ), chips were under cooked and plain as well.
The menu has Italian & Mexican as well, looks like the chefs couldn't decide which way they want to follow....
Waiters are nice and friendly.
Easy-going, historic and cultural cafe, with good service and standard breakfast menu. Tasty eggs and good coffee was enjoyed, sitting at American style booths. Next time, I am definitely going there for a good old fashioned milkshake...

Old boast from the past style cafe which offers reasonable priced cafe style meals. Could do with a little facelift and renovation of the bathroom. Pleasant staff, nice comfort food.

If I could give this place a zero I would. Service was appalling. Food was BAD. Never eat there. I am a local and this was the first time we ate at this cafe as it was convenient. There are much better places to eat in Katoomba.

The only score for its convenient location and pleasant dining environment.
Ordered a 'medium rare' scotch fillet which came in as pretty much almost WELL DONE looking. This $23-buck meal tasted sooo pale and I doubt whether they cooked with any seasoning nor spices. Worst steak ever.
The chicken schnitzel came with 'nothing-but-flour-taste' mashed potato (the texture was bit running and I recon KFC's was much better ). The chicken itself was in weird brownish colour (supposed to be cream/white colour right?) and tasted like it has been frozen in the fridge for ages. Again, the gravy was dull and pale that we had to sprinkle salt and pepper.
Got ignored by waitress many times. pretty much was self-service during the dinner.

Never ever go back!

Do not go to this cafe. I repeat. Do.not.go.to.this.cafe. The service is pathelic and the food is just a joke. EVERY WAITRESS HAD A FACE THAT WAS AS THOUGH WE OWE THEM A BILLION EURO. There was no smile, no greeting, no table setting; we even have to get our own cups. I felt like I must have hurt a few teeth, or at least my gums chewing that supposingly medium rare scotch fillet. 😞😱 That pepp. pizza is thin crusted (which is about the only good thing😊) but the crust was ROCK hard. And then those pastas...the noodles are mushy and broken. 😱😱😱😱😱 WORST DINNER EVER AND IT COSTED $103... 💩💩

Disappoint with how they cook steak.
If you like medium rare, try order rare and you might get what you want.

Grilled barramundi was very nice but sauce a bit too sweet.

Won't recommend :/

Very bad service and very average food. This place was once so good. What happened? Empty tables were covered in dirty dishes with staff seemingly unaware and disinterested. So much potential and yet full of disappointment.

The overall experience was pretty bad. Big breakfast didn't taste good and my kangaroo burger was dry and bland.
However, the iced latte tasted great and the home made cookies from whisk & pin were delicious!
The staff needs a lot of customer service training...

Poor, 40%, service 40%. I ordered rare steak, mid-rare for friends. Mine came out well-done.

They offered a new steak but I choose not to as I waited around 20mins so.

Couldn't eat it. It was too leathery. Not happy to pay for it. ;(

Probably the cheapest big breckie $11.50 in town and coffee $2.50. Good service and honest food. Like it.

A Top Cafe in Katoomba. We had a quick three day trip to the mountains and stayed in Katoomba - Savoy became our local, eating here 3 times! The staff were friendly and accommodating, the food was very reasonably priced and tasted delicious. We always managed to get a seat in the booths (it can get busy during lunch time though), food always arrived quickly and we thought the music playing was great. The menu is large, with so many options you can be sitting there deciding for a while!

When we went here for breakfast - we ordered two $11.90 Vegetarian Big Breakfast (with extra bacon $3 as recommended by the waitress) and were very happy with our meal. A super large serving, two perfectly poached eggs, 2 slices of buttered soft white toast, hash browns, a mushrooms/spinach fry up and roasted tomatoes - it was the best start possible to a freezing day in the mountains!

We went here twice for lunch, a few notes:
- The mango smoothie was delicious, reminded us of a Mango Magic from Boost
- They have the best wedges with sour cream and chilli sauce. Absolutely delicious but the serving was hugee - almost too big! It would be great if they could offer a smaller size as they only have one $8.50 side of wedges.
- I had the ham, cheese and tomato melt on sour dough which was superb. I asked the waitress if they could sprinkle some cayenne seasoning on top which was accommodated without a hassle and really enhanced the flavours.
- Their beef nachos are delicious and a very generous serving.
- Portuguese Chicken Burger was yum, with a decent size serving of chips.

Overall I would highly recommend Savoy for a delicious meal in Katoobma - I'm very surprised with its low overall rating below 70% (perhaps a change of hands in recent years?). Either way, it will be my first stop next time I travel to the mountains.

Loved my experience. Even though cafe was quite busy ( not surprisingly) generous portions, so much choice and everyone enjoyed their meal. Service was friendly even though they were run off their feet. Thanks Savou ill be back.

Love It. We often eat here in the evenings and especially love the Friday night jazz music courtesy of excellent local musicians. The food is reliable, well cooked and the servings are large. I often order the kangaroo saltimbocca medium rare and always enjoy it. The fish fillet is barramundi and always tasty.
It's a relaxed, popular place and although busy at times we never wait long to be served. We like the house Shiraz which is always quick to arrive.
The staff are always very friendly and helpful. Decor is old and the place certainly has character. Love it.

Disappointed. Generally Savoy isn't too bad but last time I went there we were served cold, weak tea (it was awful), and the waitresses were less than helpful. One of them left the plate of food on the end of the table and walked off instead of placing it infront of me - it may seem petty but it's small things that make for decent customer service and a nice dining experience!

Got 2 fish and chips, left most of it behind as tasted nearly state...left a bad taste in our mouth afterwards, who knew you could go so wrong with fish and chips! Should have eaten in subway cross the road instead.

Place was packed and service good. The vegetarian breakfast was great and well priced for the portion size. Really cute place and happy to give them business.

Huge serves. Service was actually quite good the time we went for dinner but the fact that we were the only customers there as they were about to close helps. The nachos were great, I'm still thinking about the guac. I wish they were more specific on the menu though about some dishes that already come with a side of chips. We ended up with massive leftovers and there were three of us sharing.

I liked it..... I'm a local, and have eaten there on and off for 20 years.
The $20 steaks are great value. Pasta dishes good, too. Coffee is fine.
When it's busy, expect to wait more (obviously), and sometimes the staff can be a little too, er, relaxed, but are generally pretty good.
I only go for the steaks, to be honest, so have no idea what the other food is like, but the locals I know who eat there like it.

Not for Us. Overall, our experience was pretty sub-par. We went there on Sunday night around 8pm. With respect of the experience, the restaurant was half full when we arrived. Staff appeared to be inattentive to the patrons and general duties. Tables were left dirty for extended periods of time and drinks had to be followed up on a couple of occasion.

With regard to the food, the restaurant offers a large menu, but lacked structure and was quite simple. My girlfriend had the beef lasagne and I had the Chicken Snitchel. In summary, we felt the meals were overpriced for what we got. The meals game out quick but the cook brought the meals out himself.
