It’s a great local cafe located conveniently in the western suburbs of melbourne. Absolutely loved the food and the service was so welcoming and kind!
One by one’,….. I’m working through Melbourne’s best cafes.
My latest adventure has brought me to Keilor, a suburb north-west of the city.
It’s where David, Joseph and Marco opened up their café, One by One, over 2 years ago.
What began as a pop-up coffee spot, serving coffee through a 1m x 1m window, has now grown into a full café. The name is a nod to their humble beginning; a time when they planned what is today, a welcoming café designed by a young carpenter who was a customer at that time.
The menu offers a ‘modern Australian café fare’, with the usual favourites high on the list. There’s the colourful Acai bowl garnished with protein balls; Eggs Benny with seeded mustard hollandaise; and a selection of salads and burgers for those feeling like a wholesome lunch.
Credit goes to the chefs for this work of art in a bowl. I definitely appreciated the fresh fruits and house made protein balls. It’s wonderful to see more and more cafes championing gluten free and vegan dishes as staple parts of their offerings.
This is definently going to be my new go to place for delicious lunch and great coffee. The hotcakes are a must! Very pleasant visit !
One by One is a lovely cafe with a friendly vibe and a pleasant, modern decor. Staff are so nice and accommodating, and they make a great cup of coffee.
The food menu is really good, and I've had some delicious meals here. The display cabinet is full of tempting treats, and this is a fab cafe to pop into for your caffeine fix.
Nice trendy venue, food was nice and service was good, this place is great if your a local but of your not a local like myself, its not that amazing that you would drive out there.
We found this quaint little cafe on Zomato and it's like a gem in the West of Melbourne. Very cool and modern deco, the space is a little tight but it does not feel claustrophobic. Staff seems very genuine and attentive to details. The menu is easy to comprehend, with sufficient number of dishes to choose from, but not too many that it seems oveehwelming. We've decided to go with the Open Omelette according to recommendation from the waitress and she could not be more right. The omelette was amazing, very filling for one person. A bit of salt and pepper and it hits you just right. A Red smoothie on a warm day was extraordinarily refreshing and oh so healthy with the topping of chia seeds and coconut slivers. We would definitely come back again to try more dishes on the menu. After all we did walk out with 2 Portuguese egg tarts and 1 Butterbing.
Popped into One By One Cafe, more out of curiosity having previously lived in the area for 25 years. This cafe brings such a modern and fresh vibe to an area lacking in cafes. The coffee was delicious and there was a nice selection of sweets. Would definitely go back again when in the area.
1x1 is a very family friendly environment which accepts dogs (perfect for me) !!! The venue is designed very modern and has very pretty decor. The food is filling and also delicious, worth trying the eggs benedict w pork shoulder (my absolute favourite) highly recommended ((:
This is a lovely light filled cafe. The food is tasty but a bit short on the portions. Other cafes are a little more generous. Having said that I’ve only tried it twice so I’ll give it another go.
One by One has all the locals completely in love and it’s easy to understand why. The cafe boasts great coffee poured by adept baristas and an interesting brunch menu.
We visited near the end of the day and we had the courtyard to ourselves which was lovely. Beautiful venue, with a lovely outdoor area! We ordered the double cheeseburger, Blueberry hotcakes and the open omelette.
The Double Cheeseburger was delicious, hard to go wrong there. Starting the Keto diet myself, my partner devoured most but I had the meat and it was juicy!
Hotcakes were a hit! Loved the lemon curd, and all the fruit. The hotcake itself was delicious!
Open omelette was nice, only thing was the prosciutto was clumped together that it made it difficult to eat. It was super chewy, so not a great experience but otherwise still yummy.
Was happy to find this little gem open on Nyd.
Was greeted by friendly staff, coffee was beautifully balanced and was able to cool off with a insta worthy açai bowl ☺️👌🏽
Stopped by one by one for a coffee whilst doing some work on my laptop. The coffee was great as was the service. It’s not mentioned but they do actually have free wifi which is very fast! They also have huge selection of muffins, donuts and pastries which is great. Hanging out to try their burgers next time we visit!
Update*
Came back for the burgers and they were all incredible. The double cheeseburger was a traditional American style burger with mustard and ketchup on a delicious milk bun. The wagyu Beef was cooked perfectly and so flavoursome.
Really rated the espresso shake too! Definitely would smash again.
One by one is a family favourite, we've had almost everything on the menu between us. My highlights are chilli scrambled eggs and the home made baked beans. Nice staff and comfortable environment.
I have been here twice now. The first time was on a week day so the service was prompt. Second time we went on Fathers Day for lunch. The drinks came out on time but our food took way too long. About 45 minutes. It was a busy day being Father’s Day. But I noticed that other customers who arrived a lot later than us received their order before us, ate and left. So I believe they forgot about our order. We were there at 12.15PM and left at 2PM because of the slow service. Nonetheless the food was great both visits. The chicken burger is to die for and the coffee is really nice! Would go back here regardless.
Nestled in the suburbs this cafe is up there with all the hyped up cafes! The food and coffee was soo good. Thumbs up that parking is readily available and free making a catch up more enjoyable and not feeling rushed to go pay the metre etc. The chicken burger was way better than the cheeseburger. Not saying the cheeseburger wasn’t good but I’d go chicken all the time haha.
They make the best peanut butter choc smoothie! So good if you like it thick and strong. (Brown Smoothie)
Ordered the lamb shoulder, cute presentation, tasty but could be better. The grilled trout was great, perfectly cooked with great textures from other ingredients.
They also have a cabinet of baked goods!
Staff were friendly and attentive.
Will be returning to try other options on the menu and definitely for the brown smoothie!
Take your lover, friends and family here for a unique brunch!
The ambience was really great, modern and a feeling of space. It wasn’t noisy considering they had concrete floors and it was warm on a cold Saturday morning.
The coffees were amazing and the food delicious and beautifully presented.
We will definitely be back and there is good parking close by..... always a plus when you ‘waddle’ out after a big meal.
One by One Cafe is another local West Side brunch location that should be checked out. Their cafe is beautifully decorated and spacious.
We ordered the mixed mushrooms on olive bread and pork shoulder eggs benedict with orange juice an a matcha latte. The mixed mushroom dish had great flavour and a great assortment of different types of mushrooms but for the price paid, I personally think it’s a small serving. I usually feel super full after brunch but I was barely “stuffed” after finishing my dish. The eggs benedict however, was great with portion and was very delicious. The pork melts in your mouth and easily pulls a part. The hollandaise sauce finished it off nicely. The matcha latte was also very good as it tastes like real matcha and sweetness is in your control.
Service was excellent as staffs were friendly and very attentive. There was a waitress singing as she worked and her voice was so enchanting.
Overall, it was a good experience and we should definitely support the great brunch locations in the West!
One by One is my favourite go to.. I've just calculated that today was my 10th visit for the year. It is consistent delicious food, wait staff are friendly funny and welcoming! Highly recommend one by one :) I love the Chilli Scrambled Eggs and have often shared this along with the Hotcake and today my partner had the Wagyu Burger and he loved it :)
A homely vibe with trendy new age decor coupled with welcoming, warm and attentive staff makes for a a cafe that makes us want to come back.
Located just off MacFarlane Street in the up and coming Keilor East area, One by One Cafe is definitely going to be one of our regular hangs when it comes to food, ambience and location. Having read the menu ahead of time, we ordered the Homemade fettuccine lamb Ragu and aged parmesan which according to the waiter was from a freshly cracked wheel $21.0. Delicious, soft and delicate and wouldn't mind a serving right now. Also ordered the grilled trout $18.0 which had potato croquette's that were super fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside - just delicious although, it would've been perfect had the chef seasoned the dish properly especially the trout. All is forgiven though as it was still lovely.
A couple of drinks, or rather a health smoothy (Red) $8.0 that could've served as a meal on its own and a juice $6.5 that had turmeric in it which went down quite pleasantly.
Service: well it depends on who you get. Just recently came back here with the fam and we're usually served by the dark, tall with slightly buffy haired guy who is always on point in both service and hospitality although this time we were served by the guy who had tan boots on and seemed to have had a late night. Stuffed up our coffee orders and then had to reconfirm twice, which is what happens when you don't write orders down. In saying that, everything after that was fine.
There's ample parking available both right in front of the cafe and also around the corner next to the 80's hair salon.
One by One Cafe is a must visit of you're in the Keilor district and even if you're not, go in and enjoy. Till next time, this is Our Foodie Find!
The food is really good and their is options for Gluten Free which is handy! I went with a friend and we stayed a while chatting but there was no pressure from staff to hurry us up which was lovely
I will come back
Trendy, modern cafe... our first time here & we weren’t disappointed. The cafe is very spacious & clean. Staff were efficient & friendly. I had the smashed avo which was delicious. Wild rice with broccolini & chicken was also ordered- very fresh & wholesome, great coffee as well. Look forward to returning.
I always stop in for a takeaway coffee when in the area. Thoroughly enjoyed a wagyu brisket in brioche roll, perfect for rainy weather comforts!
A great addition the Keilor neighborhood. Good coffee and lovely interiors. The food here is great and there’s a variety for you to choose from. I recommend grabbing a smoothie alongside your meal.
If you find yourself down this neck of the woods they are worth a visit. And if you’re there around lunch time then get the fettuccine with lamb ragu. Soooo tasty!!
We where delighted to be invited to sample the menu at One By One in Keilor East. This bright little venue was just what the doctor ordered on this foggy Anzac Day morning. The interior was well planned out with couples tables down one side and a larger group or share table beneath the living wall.
We saw many locals popping in for a coffee and many of them where known by name. I always think that is a great sign of a good local cafe.
We ordered the açaí bowl, the Nutella marscapone and berry hot cakes and chilli scrambled eggs with chorizo. For drinks we tried a couple of lattes one strong, one normal and yes they do lactose free milk. We also tried the Brown smoothie.
I enjoyed my strong coffee it was great with a slight toffee taste. Roastings were from Ona a roaster based in Canberra.
The Brown smoothie was to gorgeous to be completely healthy. This hazelnut colored drink was made with peanut butter, banana, almond milk, vanilla soft serve ice cream and freeze dried banana. It tasted wickedly good, the ratios of each ingredient where blended perfectly so the flavour of the banana wasn’t too strong and let the nuttiness of the almond milk and peanut butter shine through.
The chilli scrambled eggs had a fabulous smokey flavour with a subtle chilli hit and perfect texture (not runny and not dry) the chilli doesn’t linger which i found perfect for a breakfast item. I can honestly say these are one of the nicest chilli scrambled eggs I’ve had.
The giant hot cake looked too pretty to eat, it had a hidden layer of syrup and strawberries under the mascarpone/Nutella cream. The end result was a light textured hot cake with golden crunchy edges and plenty of flavour. If you like sweet this will be your thing.
The açaí bowl was great, the mound of super chilled acai smoothiewas lovely and thick and surrounded by quite a savory granola and coconut , this rounded out the flavours perfectly in this delightful breakfast dish.
One by One are about to change the menu around in the coming weeks with the summer chia pudding will be replaced by a porridge dish to warm you up in the colder weather. It’s also nice to see that in this ever expanding cafe, the rear court yard is about to open to offer people alfresco dining options.
I could not fault anything we had here, it was well worth the trip.
One By One stands out amongst the surrounding milk bars and takeaway shops, bringing a slice of Melbourne's cafe culture to Keilor East. A wall of greeneries is the first thing that catches our eye, followed by the soft pastel peach coloured walls.
The welcoming space is only surpassed by the charming and friendly staffs. The lovely waitress gave me two straws for my smoothie - a cute paper straw for aesthetic purposes as she knew I wanted to take a picture, and a plastic straw for drinking the smoothie. Service like this can't be beaten!
Speaking of the smoothie, the Brown Smoothie that I had was, hands down, one of the best! The secret ingredient? Vanilla soft serve! The resulting creation was lusciously creamy, and the peanut butter, banana and cacao powder were flawlessly proportioned so as that I could taste each flavours yet none overpowered another. It made our other beverage of choice, our default order of a latte, paled in comparison.
The food would have been perfect if not for the toasts. Both my partner and I had some difficulty cutting into them. In spite of that, the food still managed to impressed us. The velvety chilli scrambled eggs with chorizo and feta (with a side of bacon) delivered a contrast of flavours and textures. The pork shoulder that came with the eggs benny were deliciously tender, and had a rich and somewhat buttery flavour. Not surprising considering we were told that the chef was ex Top Paddock, Kettle Black and Middletown.
Many thanks to One By One for having us, and also for listening to our feedbacks.
This place is a little local gem 💎 !!!!
Have been here many times and always enjoy it! I usually go for the smashed avo and this one definitely hits the spot 🥑👌🏽 The grilled broccoli with wild rice and the add of chicken is also a favourite!
I love their menu, they have a good variety of different meals and their food is made with love! (Maybe the eggs benedict need something a little fresh to make it even better 🍳 and paper straws, just make me feel like I'm drinking paper with my juice but no biggie)
Lastly! 💁🏽
The customer service at the place is wonderful! It honestly makes you want to go back. After a slight mistake with an order they were so friendly and gave us a delicious hot cross bun!! HOW NICE! 😇😃 It's the little things!
One By One is my go to for my daily morning coffee. Always perfect, honestly have never found a coffee so good! This morning I tried the granola bowl with coconut yoghurt and it was to die for! New obsession 😄
What do I do on Sundays? I brunch! I know a thing or two about a good cafe in Melbourne and One By One is one of them. It’s in Keilor East but don’t let that stop you, I drove 45 minutes and it was completely worth every inch of the way.
The colours are beautiful here, I really fell in love with their styling. The staff (every single one of them)-Lovely!! The food was incredible, each dish a work of art. I ate the Hotcake, it was so fluffy and all the elements of the dish complimented each other perfectly-big fan of the nutella mascarpone. The acai bowl (so pretty to look at) full of flavour and that granola=wow!!
I don’t drink coffee, my friend had the chilled coffee and thought it was divine, especially the orange-such a nice match.
Thank you for your fantastic hospitality One by One, I will definitely be returning soon.
Absolutely loved our visit out to One by One last weekend. A cool, mod little spot in Keilor East with an amazing menu to rival any other in Melbourne.
There are so many items to choose from covering both brekky and lunch. Breakfast faves had to be the amazing pancakes or the fruity açaí bowl. The burger is one not to look past for lunch but the lamb racy fettuccine has to be my pick.
Some delicious shakes and also take away items to go with your coffee won’t disappoint either.
Highly recommend this spot if you’re in the area!
So I’m impressed with this cafe!!! There really isn’t much out this way (not yet) and one by one definitely leading the way in both presentation and taste of the delicious menu!
I ordered the wagyu beef burger and the Oreo milkshake and omg both were amazing! The milkshake was full of flavour and richness so you have to try this!
Also got a taste of açaí bowl and the hot cakes and both were definitely up there!! I’ll definitely be going back for more of their menu
Visited here on the weekend and I must say that they were absolutely ace in their meals. I had the acai bowl and the brisket burger and I have to say that they were both absolutely delicious. Definitely a top place in Keilor east and well worth the drive.
Definitely a trek out from the city especially when you don’t have a car but One by One is a relatively new cafe out on the North-West side where good brunch places become quite scarce. Having come here as part of a food group collaboration, we were seated outside on a fresh Autumn day. They have a great selection of dishes, with special sweets such as a Nutella Hotcake and Granola Bowl that look quite stunning, but their savoury options such as the Lamb Salad and the Fettucine also don’t disappoint. The smoothies and coffees are also worth trying.
Visited One by One on the weekend with the Melbourne Foodie Hub, and had a thoroughly enjoyable experience! I am fairly unfamiliar with the area, so it was great to be introduced to such a cute little place that I can recommend to my friends nearby! The interior of the café is inviting, with lots of foliage and really nice baby pink colour throughout - quite creative and different to any other café I've been to. I had the Red Smoothie which was delicious - it looked gorgeous too with the little banana chips and dried flowers on top. The Green and Brown Smoothies I tried were both delicious as well - particularly the Brown with the peanut butter and cacao in it! The Oreo, and the Salted Caramel Milkshakes were exquisite - delicious little extra treats that took me back in time! As for the food, we ordered such an array and all of it was great. I had the Vietnamese Chicken Salad, which was so refreshing and healthy. I loved the little roasted peanuts and the chicken was super tender. The acai bowl and pancakes were another real highlight and the presentation was stunning. The staff were all really nice and accommodating too. I definitely recommend a trip down to One by One, you won't be disappointed!
I’m always keen to try new places closer to home when I need my weekly brunch fix. Hidden in Keilor East is a little gem!
I was lucky to visit this place with a group of foodies to try a range of their meals! The smoothies were fresh and a great way to kickstart the weekend. They have everything from the healthy açai bowl to the meat meat wag Yu brisket burger.
Thank you for having us! And I’ll definitely be back!
This little gem is well worth venturing off the tram line to check out!
I was lucky enough to head along to One By One today with a crew of fellow foodies and eat our little insta hearts out. With a large group we were able to order a great selection from the menu, and I can safely say I'd be happy to come back and try a few more dishes out myself. Going with something that is a fave (risky, but if it holds up, worth it!), I had the acai bowl and the "brown" shake (MUCH better than it sounds!!).
The acai bowl held up to the photo marathon. I really loved the granola that was generously sprinkled around the bowl. Makes me want to try the housemade granola next time round! The brown shake consisted of peanut butter, almond milk and banana - such a winner!!
Lovely spot, lovely peeps, and I'm already plotting how I can fit in my next visit!
I absolutely adore this cafe. My friends and I come here every opportunity we get to experience the incredible food, amazing customer service and plethora of options on the menu. Could not recommend this cafe anymore, it is so brilliant. The food is always outstanding, as is the iced chocolate and milkshakes. The owners and workers are lovely and I have always experienced outstanding customer service. Definitely give One By One a visit!
Coffee and food always good. Atmosphere great and friendly attentive staff. We come often enough to know no matter what time of day or no matter which day you will always get the same highbstandard coffee, food and service you're looking for.
I seen a review on this place on this site and seeing I live only 5 minutes away I popped in for breakfast this morning I loved the feel of the place especially the plant wall the staff was helpful and friendly and the food a d coffee was fabulous they did not have my usual big breakfast on the menu so I chose the healthy avocado on olive bread with beetroot and radish it tasted amazing I will return and highly recommend it to others east keilor is lucky to have this charm of a place
Split the Bill was invited to experience One By One cafe in East Keilor. And how lucky we were!
Walking in to this modern cafe we were greeted by friendly staff as well as a beautiful wall of greenery where we were seated.
We had coffees to start as well as the avocado on olive bread and hot cakes which were not only aesthetically pleasing but tasted absolutely amazing. The hot cakes were definitely the winner and we are still dreaming of them! The fresh berries, fairy floss and marscapone were a great mix!
We were also lucky to experience some of One by One’s fresh juices which were very tasty! Good to start your morning off with one of these! We loved the green smoothie too!
Highly recommend people to visit One by One especially if you are in the area! Great little place for those who live in East Keilor.
The food was very tasty and presented beautifully, the staff were lovely and polite and most importantly the coffee was great!
Thanks for the invitation
What a delight to dine as guests of One by One on the weekend. I loved the interior, baby pink brick and a foliage wall- I was in heaven. This coupled with a stellar selection of pastries including some of my favourites supplied by Doughboys and Butterbing made for an insanely delicious lunch.
I was super impressed with the menu and all the different textures incorporated into the many dishes. I might have to go back to explore the granola with lemon balm. The chia pudding with mango sorbet also piqued my interest but I opted for the perceived to be more healthy açai. I enjoyed the texture of this very much, after a run of açai with a watery consistency I am pleased to report this one was made correctly and was thick as a smoothie bowl should be. My beverage of choice the ‘red’ aka berry smoothie was a little too yoghurty tasting for my liking but the real winner was the five spice calamari summer salad. Plated on gorgeous pink crockery this was super flavoursome and I loved the fruit in the salad. I’ve never seen calamari served with plum before and it surprisingly worked really well. A perfectly light option for the warm weather and an ingenious combination. Hubby opted for the pressed lamb shoulder which he was thoroughly impressed with. The menu on Zomato is a little outdated so I would definitely recommend heading in to try their most recent offerings. It makes a lot of sense that their uber creative chef is ex Middletown and Kettle Black and it’s nice for locals to get an awesome high caliber chef like that in the burbs to really showcase this modern and trendy cafe.
First time visiting and the food and service was exceptional. Staff were very friendly and welcoming, and we did not wait long for our meals to come out. Very good price for a quality meal 🤤
Will definitely be visiting again!
One by one is a newly opened café in Keilor East with a welcoming and homey vibe. Great place for a relaxing weekend brunch for friends or family. Menu options are extensive and caters to all sorts of tastes. Their Head Chef Gilly Singh comes from a background of popular Melbourne cafes such as Kettle Black and Middletown to bring One by One some creations of his own. Would recommend if in the area.
Great fit out, amazing coffee. Will be back to try their food. These guys are new on the block, however I think they will do quite well. Give them a go.
A quick mid week lunch.
Plenty of seats available. Greeted and seated with menus and water very efficiently.
Decided on the Mushroom dish and the Wagyu brisket burger. Both were exceptionally good. Full of flavour, magnificently presented and generous in size.
Definitely back for more another time.
One by One excels as a modern and trendy cafe situated in the quiet suburb of Keilor, and their unique twists and tweaks to everyday breakfast items like Hotcakes and Eggs Benedict definitely made it an interesting and memorable experience.
Coupled with solid coffees and friendly service, this will surely become a go-to for the neighbourhood!
One by one does not disappoint. On a gloomy morning, arriving in Melbourne after a hour or so flight feeling extremely tired and hungry, we were welcomed by this inviting cafe. The staff are extremely friendly and talkative. The food was amazing! Even more so because we were starving!
Wagyu burger just melts on your mouth, the staff are super friendly, very spacious Cafe that's kids friendly. Nice big change table in the bathroom too.
Highly recommended for a casual setting with great food

We came down here for a quick breakfast. We had a great meal and the coffee was amazing. The service was top notch. I don't live in the area but I wish I did cause this place is a great local.
First time visit and was very pleasant. Fast service, beautifully presented food and great coffee - ingredients for a successful business. Was very busy when we visited (Saturday brunch) so was rather noisy which wasn't helped by the loud 'background' music. Keep up the good work guys!
Great food, great coffee, great service. Had the mashed avo, tasted better than it looked and it looked pretty ace 👌🏽👌🏽 Definitely my new regular !
One by one cafe welcome addition to my life. This has to be the best cafe in east Keilor and surrounding suburbs.
The coffee machine looks like it's from 2020 and the coffee experience was something special. The food is exceptionally delicious and you can see the passion that was put into every element of every dish.
When we walked in we were welcomed by more than one staff member and they gave us options of where to sit even though they were busy.
Every part of this cafe was incredible and I can't describe how nice it was to see a cafe aspire to reach such high levels of food and coffee standards in the suburbs.... well done guys. Can't wait to come back.
I thought I'd try this cafe after hearing it has been open for less than a week. The coffee was outstanding the my chilli eggs breaky was also very good. I am going back this weekend with a few friends.
Cool decor in this awesome new cafe close to home! Had an amazing lunch here, the Pressed Lamb Shoulder was delish! Staff were friendly and very welcoming. Would 10/10 go again.
Cafe opened this week so I made it a priority to try. Firstly the fit out is top notch. The coffee was amazing and the food was fabulous. I can see this place becoming busy quick! A must try no matter which part of melb you are from.
Nice and cosy spot for a cafe, in a quiet area. Very good service and the food was wonderful. The staff are welcoming and the coffee is amazing. Highly recommend for brunch.
Surprisingly nice local café
Staff very friendly.
The mushroom brekky very tasty ,added fresh chillies.
Lovely courtyard out back.
One by one cafe was absolutely good for me, the custo er service was really nice and my coffee was perfect! Also the food is yummy, thanks guys!!!
Excellent food. Best mushrooms EVER! Generous portions. Staff were friendly and helpful. Nice coffee but not quite hot enough. Overall it was a good first visit and we will go back again.
Had brunch here today
Ordered the pizza sandwich and the flore-so-latte sandwich both toasted and also the cold brew ice coffee.
All I can say is they were AMAZING
The sandwiches were made fantastic, they had perfect amount of fillings and toasted to perfection, also not to mention the great customer service from the gentlemen at the register, who also opened the door for me when exiting.
Just wanted to say to you and your staff keep up the great work
Look forward to coming back :)
Thanks
Love love love one by one! The staff are really lovely and accommodating especially Isabella. Nothing is too hard and the food is so delish! Patricia in the kitchen is a legend and makes the best hummous. It's great having a local where everyone knows your name and you can't beat the food and coffee!!
Came here for a coffee and treat! Staff were fantastic, service was quick! Just need to get back to try the food! Love the decor.
