Review Fat Chef - Keilor East

Place is nice, you can go through to the shopping Centre too. They have a lot of seats. And outdoor seats. Customer service is great. The food is good. And the price I should say affordable. One thing is the toilet, they don’t have. As I used the shopping centre toilet which is upstairs. Not a problem but restaurants should have to have their own toilet for their customers. Didn’t ask if they have but couldn’t see any signs. Overall good.

Does not live up to the hype you see on the socials. The steaks were not great, risotto was left untouched. Best thing was the garlic bread which is compatible to Pizza Hut or dominoes except looks like they’ve done it themselves. Mushroom gravy was like dirty dish water. We expressed our dissatisfaction to the waitress who replied “it is what it is”. Not happy.

I love the Fat Chef Restaurant. The meals are delicious and the portion sizes are very generous . The chicken parmigiani is one of our favorites and the lemon meringue pie is the best i have ever tasted. I would highly recommend it. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Anna and her team at Fat Chef are fantastic. The care they take to get to know there patrons is outstanding. Service is 5 star. Food is amazing. All staff pay attention to detail and are very polite. Will defiantly return. I went because all my friends talk about it and they didn’t let me down.

What a fantastic experience we had. The waitresses were fast efficient and so friendly. I can tell you they went above and beyond for a member of our party with a disability to ensure she was comfortable and happy. The food came out fast and was amazing. Can not fault anything will definitely be back again.
Melissa Ryan
Food was pretty good although basic and pricing was over priced for the food platters. The waiters do need some training as none of them knew the menu or drinks menu when asked questions. Hot tip: Platters for 2 is more like food for 4 as there is so much on them and lots of food waste.

Went here for my birthday with a table of 10. Food and service was great. I don't know why there are so many bad reviews about service the staff were great and so was the food. Would definitely eat here again!

Ordered dinner From this restaurant through UberEats and wow, it really exceeded our expectations. We got the pumpkin & spinach risotto, steak sandwich, confit fries and a berry cheesecake. Everything was super tasty, the portion sizes are massive and excellent value for money too! Can’t wait to be able to dine in at this restaurant once restrictions have eased.

Great experience food was amazing along with drinks, have to try coffee! Well known Chef with great menu, heaps parking.

I came here with some friends for dinner on Saturday night after hearing from someone how good the food was. Everything looks new, the place has been totally revamped. The service was great and the food was even better. I had the lamb ragu and my partner ordered scotch steak which was cooked perfectly. We will definitely be back!

Food was too Salty, Salad was plain, we thought Drinks where included in our Buffet, it wasn't, all our group Cholesterol levels will be High. Very expensive, I had no money on my card, so I had to ask for family to pay for me then I will pay them back. He lied to us said Drinks where included but they where not included. We where told if we wanted Buffet we need to purchase a drink which was suppose to be included.
A Taste Wish
horrible experience...the food had no taste...no flavours at all...the service is pathetically slow...!!!
the staff is friendly though!
would NOT recommend!

Amazing amazing experience here! The service is 100% 5 star. We ordered a series of steak dishes as well as some sides and salads. We had the tomahawk steak, rib eye, fried chicken wings, mixed platter, open souvlaki and calamari salad. The steaks were huge and well worth their money, the only down fall is the steaks weren’t cooked as we’d requested but nonetheless the sauces and garlic butter dressings were on point. The rib eye followed the same opinion. For the open souvlaki, the meat which I presume were the slow cooked shoulder were over cooked and quite rubbery which were a little hard to palate but presentation perfect. The calamari salad was a decent serve but I can’t speak on taste as I hadn’t tried it. The mixed platter came with an array of mixed meats as well some mixed seafood. If the chefs could tone down the over cooking, everything would be on point. But the slowed cooked lamb shoulder was tough, burnt and rubbery. But small things that can be easily fixed to give it the reputation this place deserves after its swift move into new management. Presentation and quantity is 5/5. Service is 5/5. Pricing is 5/5. Menu size and variety is 4/5 and over all taste is 4/5

I’m glad we spent nearly $30 for me to eat vegetables for dinner. Overdone steak I can deal with if it tastes nice. Last time we came here we waiting an insanely long time for our steak but when it arrived it was amazing, so flavourful and cooked perfectly. This was chewy and bland. Such a shame.

Saturday morning breakfast. Seated promptly at a booth & water brought to the table.
Whilst reading the menu realised the table was too high & too far away from the seat. Felt awkward. Being a booth I couldn’t pull the chair closer. This made me decide to just grab something small instead of a full breakfast dish.
Coffee arrived quickly but it was super hot, almost burnt.
Croissant arrived and it was barely toasted. Cold tomato and unmelted cheese inside. I’d fasted for a blood test so I was desperate to eat. Wasn’t sending it back after having already fasted for 14hrs.
Upon reaching for the cutlery I noticed the knife was dirty. Food residue remained on the knife from a previous customer. Staff were nowhere to be seen so I just picked up the croissant and ate it with my hands.
Went to pay and was asked how my breakfast was.
I was honest and said the croissant was cold in the middle and the cutlery was dirty. All I received in response was a grunt. No apology, no discount, no voucher for a coffee for next time. Nothing. Hence this poor rating.

Perhaps my worst dining experience in history. On the 4th of May my family attended Fat Chef. After being seated and hearing front of staff workers yell at waiters, we were served. We waited for 1 hour and 15 minutes for food, that was quite frankly, bad. When we complained about the wait time, the staff said the ‘kitchen was busy’.

The interesting thing was that the restaurant wasn’t even completely full.. You’d hope they’d be busy cooking food. We ordered a $70 mixed platter that was so so dull. The meat was incredibly greasy too. I’m Greek and I know what good souvlaki tastes like. But there was about less than 40 grams on the plate.

We complained and received an extra serving. This was perhaps the only positive and notable gesture of Fat Chef.

Funky looking place, with great cocktails, food is amazing, very fresh and lots of flavours. Service was good, only issues was no communication with each other (staff members) as we kept getting another tablet meals/ drinks. But overall everything else was great. I would be going back there again.
Kathleen
Came here with a few friends and utilised the “buy one get one free” special. We ordered two tomahawk steaks, seafood platter and meat platter. The wait was about 50 minutes, understandable as we ordered large. The steaks were average but was easily consumed between the 5 of us. The platters were mediocre and I would not order them again. The whole meal was overall filling however would not be worth the total price ($300+) without the special which came down to ($162). The staff were friendly and accommodating as our meal ran past closing time. The dining tables, chairs and cutlery could use a better clean otherwise it was a decent meal.

One of the best restaurants in the area, Menu is very versatile and the choice's of wine and beer is a big plus.
The young staff are well trained and very friendly, coffee is very consistent to our liking.
We also enjoy the Happy hour for drinks,
We like to thank you for your good service, it's much appreciated.

Our family decided to come for a nice Saturday breakfast. Service was great and the waitresses were very hospitable and friendly. All of our orders were spot on and food came on time. A very friendly atmosphere and delicious food.

Loved it.

Went there on fathers day..
Fully booked but does not feel too busy, as we came at around 2PM (we also had a booking)..

Pros
Kids were excited to try their platters as how they have seen on Facebook.

Cons
Ordering was really annoying..
Was ordering 2 meat platters for 5, as we wanted to try one mixed and one meats platter.. and the waitress told us that we should only order one plater as the food might be too much.. wtf?! I ordered a burger for myself, and we wanted to try the platters with a plan of taking home the leftover to be eaten for later.. was really annoyed by the staff.

Time for the food to arrive
It took more than 1.5 hrs for the food to arrive. Followed it up, and was just told that the kitchen is already preparing it.. were really disappointed and was at the brink of walking out..

The food
Meat was a bit dry.
The worse part was that we were halfway eating and feeling disappointed about the food.. then i realised that there was no sauces! Checked on the menu and we should have received 3 types of sauces.. unfortunately it was not served!!

Overall really disappointed and wont be coking back to this joint.

A terrible experience at Fat Chef in Keilor East. We were overcharged. We were charged full price on “steak night” and two staff members tried to correct us. They later apologised and informed us we were right. Waited 40 minutes for drinks to arrive. We were offered coffees even before our mains arrived to the table. Woeful.
Rosa Lam
Waited over 1 hour for food and the waitress was condescending and rude. Enquired about out food waitress walked away and forgot to ask the kitchen. Will not return to restaurant.
FOOD TRIP
Fat Chef is a casual eatery located in the small shopping centre of Milleara. Serves up a range of pub style food. Portions are generous, but average flavours. Probably wouldn't come back. Mixed Grill Platter $70. Lamb and Chicken off the spit, Pork Belly, Ouzo infused Chargrilled Prawn Skewers, Heineken battered Barramundi Fillets, Salt and Pepper Calamari, Fat Chef Salsa and Condiments
Foododie
Things I like
coffee and Barrista .
The chicken schnitzel and potato sticks
The fritters
fresh juice.

Things I don’t like
the eggs aren’t free range .
The lamb of the spitt has gotten really fatty .
being asked when sitting at an outside table if every single food and drink is ours as the waitress walks out the door with food or drink for other tables before ours! So annoying .
2 lattes, No , door opens again , a tea? No , then again 2 salads? No. All one after the other .
No it’s not for the 8th time .
please get table numbers. So inefficient.

Nice local restaurant. I love the pork belly and my favourite cocktail would have to be the midori splice. Friendly and attentive staff are sure food always comes out promptly.

Amazing food! We had a party 12+. Although the food took a little while to come out it was certainly worth the wait!
The only negative comment is that I asked for the kids food to come out first... it came out last needless to say I wasn’t happy. I hope they can learn from that.

Well came here for steak night last week my husband and 2 other friends ordered steak one 300grams porterhouse and 2 300grams eye fillet the steak was good but not great. I ordered garlic prawns it ok I had better the side veggies wasn’t very nice because it had no flavour and over cooked. They over charged us on our meals it was such a long wait to get our food like 50min.. there were people who came after us and they got their food first.. Our total bill cost $250 wtf.. when you ask them the break down they couldn’t even explain it to us. Dodgy place

The quality of the Parma or the chips is not as they exaggerate in their Facebook account. Would I go there again for their special Parma? Not really. There is no extra flavour that would attract me. Lucky I didn’t come with the family. Not a place to dine in.
~ The Real Review ~
Me & the family decided to eat here for dinner we had the mixed grill & the kids had lamb spit and kids pizza. The portion size of the mixed grill is huge. I think they should pay less attention on the portion size and focus on quality. The meat was somewhat chewy, the lamb was fine but the chicken had a weird taste to it & wasn’t very pleasant. Ambiance was great a little cool with the aircon going service was ok overall 3/5

Double dating night decided to take our friends to try out this place I’ve been seeing on Facebook. We ordered the Tomahawk steak and the meat platter the food was quiet huge as I knew it was going to be but taste wise was quiet chewy and tough as it sat there cooling off. I think it was because it was in the shopping centre and the aircon was quiet cold made the meat not as tender. Overall not bad
Nic_charms
Food was very underwhelming. We got the family platter which was a mix of seafood and meats. Chicken was so dry you could barely eat it. It came with real calamari, prawns, flat head tails, then it was filled up with mixed fake seafood (calamari rings, scallops, battered prawns). A lot of hype and couldn’t live up to it. Don’t waste your time and money... very disappointed.

It was Sat night and the place was buzzing. To my surprise the place had good vibe and seemed family oriented. We ordered the famous medium rare Tomahawk 1.2kg steak. To be honest it’s brave just for the sheer size. I liked the wow factor but not so much of the taste. I felt it was just ok. I preferred more sauce and slightly up the anti with condiments to match the size and the price. We later tried coffee which was definitely very nice. It had good aroma and perfect flavour. So will I go again? Perhaps if I have to impress someone for the sheer size factor only.

Bad food and terrible service!
Service is so slow, even to just order and it was not busy. 45 minutes after placing my order; ordered a chicken burger and fries.
The chicken was not cooked properly at all still pink and had blood in the middle. Not only is this unacceptable but I could have easily had food poisoning by eating it. I did not eat it and told the waitress who said "its not undercooked, its a thigh piece". Regardless, thigh pieces don't bleed.
She still made me pay full price. I will never enter this restaurant again, and I regret not taking a picture and reporting it. I don't recommend anybody eat here, there are plenty fantastic restaurant's in the area.

Good food, beers on tap and they have weekly specials..
The only problem is they need to open a store in Caroline Springs so it’s closer to home

Fat Chef, my burger definitely felt fat. Was a huge burger looked amazing but I found the patties tasted like actual sausages mushed. It wasn't like all the other burger places I've been too just had this overly dominated mixed herb sausage. It also lacked sauce and just seemed very dry and a mission to swallow. The Parma was cooked well and executed well only problem was it didn't have any type of sauce on it sadly. Overall wasn't a bad meal but from watching all their media posts from Facebook I did walk in here with a much higher expectation.

It’s a show in excess and waste, really. Expensive, low quality food, long waits, missing menu items with no mitigation, explanation or apology. Won’t go again.

Very nice food great service and good range of beers on tap. Open every night with early week specials is really nice. Staff are friendly and always there when required

This week's review is 100% a case of me caving to peer pressure. We had planned to visit a different spot in Melbourne but after getting tagged, tagged and tagged some more in the below Facebook video, there was no way we could hit anywhere other than East Keilor's Fat Chef this week. I mean, I'm not complaining too much - those parmas look absolutely phenomenal. However the fine print of the video revealed that those mammoth parmas - The Fat Chef 1KG parma challenge and the 500g Sou Chef parma - Are only available on Monday night. We've got a fairly big parma eating challenge on the horizon (Early Feb, keep an eye out for it!), so I was more than happy to visit on our usual Thursday night and check out Fat Chef's more sensible parma option.

Came in this morning to try out their breakfast.

It'a pretty nice layout and the staff seemed relatively friendly if not a tad slow but it is a Sunday so that is to be expected.

The first two things i notice about the menu is there is no alterations to any meals (which is a bit strange) and almost everything has hollandaise sauce on it.

I finally settled on the eggs Florentine with a side of bacon. I was pretty impressed with it to be honest. Sauted spinach with poached eggs, hollandaise sauce and bacon. Everything worked well together and was a very enjoyable meal!

I frequently ordered coffee from here 2-3 times a week to takeaway. Ever since the new man has been making the coffees I have stopped going. The first time he told me there was no almond milk and that was fine and I said I didn't want any other milk. He then gave me a coffee (not sure what he used if there was no almond milk). I took one sip and it definitely did not taste like coffee. It was incredibly sour (so he either used off milk or something else). I would have much preferred it if he just didn't make anything and I could have gone somewhere else, instead he left it as one big mystery and gave me something which i definitely did not order. I just left it and threw the coffee in the bin. I went back a second time and gave him another chance, thinking it may have just been the milk and not his coffee skills. On this occasion my coffee just tasted like milk. I am giving this place a 3 for the previous times I went there and the young lady who use to make the coffees were great. Not sure why the last time I went there she was waitressing and he was making coffees.

Ordered the seafood platter and it looked great when it arrived. Unfortunately the fish was dry, prawns over cooked and the lamb was inedible.. won't be back!!

Food and ambiance were OK, service was excellent. Had lamb and chicken off the spit with Greek salad. Enough to share for the family ie 2 adults 2 kids. Prices a little steep for what it was and location ie shopping centre.
Ben Gintler
Slow service. Mediocre food. Coffee is good but food is very average. Won't be coming back. I can't provide a 140 character review. I can't provide a 140 character review.

Clean, spacious and friendly staffs, Fat Chef is a great place to catch up with family and friends.
Had a latte, hot chocolate, spanish eggs and smashed avo for our breakfast and loved it! The thyme salsa was generous, no salt and pepper needed. A little bit expensive, but we had a good breakie experience here.
Iain Hobbs
Nice and clean friendly service great Spanish eggs good coffee good food array in cabinet it was quiet but very wet day a little trendy nice bar area

Went there today for some drinks, drinks were good but the place was filthy, food on the floor all over the place, tables not clean, some tables still with food on them, crumbs everywhere, only a few customers, staff spending time behind the counter joking with each other. Someone should take charge and get them to do some cleaning and even when they took away dirty plates from the tables they didn't wipe them down. Won't be back.
Lily Kelcey
Omelet was delicious, nice to have some grain toast as oppose to always having sour dough.

The Fat melt was pretty disappointing, bread was very doughy and flavours just didn't go well together. Didn't end up finishing this dish.

Fresh OJ and the latte were really good.

Customer service was also pretty good.
GastroGuru
Just popped in for a takeaway coffee... stood at the counter with the cashier pushing buttons on the POS system for a good 2 minutes without any acknowledgement. He didn't respond or even look up when I said hello. 2 ladies who had dined in, came up behind to pay their bill and he served them first! Still no acknowledgement, until another staff member came to refill change in the till and she finally said 'what do you want'. TERRIBLE customer service. Will not be back.

Dropped into the Fat Chef for a quick lunch the other day with my partner. It was the end of the lunch rush so everything was slowing down, they only had about 3 tables of people there aside from us, but they still had quite a few wait staff on the floor. That being said after we were seated we waited quite some time for menus, in the end we had to get up and ask for them ourselves.
I ordered a coffee and a burger while my partner ordered the pastitsio. And we waited for our meals. And we waited... and waited.
The Fat Chef has a knock-off Coffee Club vibe, which isn't a bad thing. Waiting for over half an hour in a basically empty cafe for your food, which the waitress forgot to enter, IS a bad thing.
After half an hour of waiting, and having only received my coffee, I got up and asked the waitress how our food was coming along. It wasn't. She had completely forgotten about it. Again, she had four tables to look after (including us) and somehow it not only slipped her mind, but she didn't think "hey, where is that table's food?' in the half an hour she was walking back and forth past us.
In the end we told them not to worry about it.
Still the coffee was decent and the girl behind the bar was nice enough to comp it for us even though we didn't ask for it to be.
But I don't think we'll be going back there.
Dee
Amazing. Octopus was devine. Calamari was tender. Pita Bread was soft and delicious. Awesome cocktails with a kick. Service was great! I'd definitely eat here again.
Alexa Ebert
Loved it the smashed avocado was delicious and so fresh! Great service and great location. Will definitely be back and recommend to my friends.
Ryan
Visited this new shop this week while I was over that side of the city to visit family, over all a fantastic store, great layout, food was next level, couldn't fault it, the booths outside in the sun just made the day that much more enjoyable, will be back next time I'm over this way,
And on a side note, the beer was so crisp and nice tap selection
Graham Scown
Arrived and was shown to a table straight away then bottled water and a menu was bought across after checking the menu I could not decide between the smashed avo and the Spanish eggs but went with the later after asking the waiters advice he told me the Spanish eggs were wonderful and with a side of bacon service was good staff were good and the food was also very tasty the only letdown for me was there was no big breakfast listed on the menu but I did enjoy the stay there
This time same great service but for lunch today
Melissa
My fiancé and I thought to give this restaurant a go being new and local. I was hesitant due to the ratings, however I'm glad we went. I ordered the spit of chicken and my fiancé ordered the lamb burger, the chicken was cooked to perfection, it was full of flavor with plenty of seasoning. The kale salad and tzatziki were both fresh and had great flavor, the chips were also delicious and crispy with a nice seasoning. My fiancé enjoyed his lamb burger, the meat was cooked perfect, it was juicy, fresh and had a nice flavor sauce. The portion size was generous and filling. They also have happy hour for cocktails $10 and schooners $5 5-7pm. Midori splice was well worth it. Great customer service, the young waitress was very attentive, I think the owner (resembles Vince Colosimo) had excellent customer services ensuring customer were looked after and satisfied. We will be returning and highly recommend.
Kathy
Came here for lunch today with group of friends service and food were great had the seafood basket
Very flavoursome
Good recommendation for locals.
Listy.arianti
The corn fritters were average, too floury. My husband ordered eggs your way with hollandaise sauce and the sauce came in a very tiny tiny cup. Service was average too, the waitresses were not really switched on. Coffee was excellent though.

We visited tonight and enjoyed it. Started with saganaki and crab croquettes, saganaki was well cooked and the crab croquettes were very tasty. We then got a chicken on the spit and lamb in the spit which comes served with pitta, kale slaw, chips and tzaikiki. For $18 they are generous and delicious, especially the chicken which has a lovely smokey flavour. We also got a garlic prawns which comes served on a bed of cauliflower rice and a side of Greek salad. These were also enjoyable but not such good value, salad was tiny for $9 and at $24 feel should have been more than 4 prawns. If they slightly increase the servings of the other dishes would be very happy as they place has great atmosphere, good service and yummy food. Well worth a visit!

had a very nice lunch today, people were very friendly & did not intrude, we were happy talking & not looking at the menu, they had no problem with that, very happy to come back when we decided!!! very lovely touch, assume it was owner or manager, not sure which, gave us an absolutely beautiful desert, complimentary, such a lovely surprise!!!! will certainly be coming back. congrats on a very lovely experience, will tell all my friends!!!!!!

We came in here for lunch because the name intrigued us. The food was lovely and reasonably priced. They were quite busy so service was not the best, but given they only had 3 people on, I can understand why they didn't build any rapport with us. Would have been at least a 4.5 or 5 if they were more attentive and approachable.
