I haven't written a review in quite some time and I feel as though, now is the time to get back into the swing of things...
I have walked past this Singaporean restaurant before and vowed to try this place some time. The place was well lit and inviting. Well, last Sunday was the day to test out this delicious looking eatery.
The restaurant is table service but you write your order down on a order slip that gets collected, bought back to you in a form of a bill.
We ordered seafood laksa and beef curry with rice. For drinks: Candol dessert drink and a mango and sago dessert type drink.
The food portion at the place is enormous, and the seafood laksa is one of the best I've tried in Sydney. I was such a delight to tuck into. You will seriously need to come here on an empty stomach if you want to get through the food serving.
This place is well worth the visit, and really good value for money. I didn't end up eating dinner that night, as the laksa sustained me until the following day.
There is so much to try at this restaurant, you will need several visits to go through the entire menu I'd say.

Love all the Malaysian food in this resto. Their Malaysian drinks such as chendol and grass jelly coffee are the best. Must try the salted egg yolk prawn and their homemade tofu pudding..

Kreta Ayer is a Singaporean chain restaurant located in Kingsford, Chatswood, Eastwood and Ashfield serving great Singaporean and Malaysian food. It is named after the famous road of the same name in Singapore. We were lucky enough to be invited as guests to attend an event at their Kingsford branch and will share with you all the amazing dishes we tried. Excellent value for money with their $42 special package. The fish with egg and sweet and sour sauce is super delicious, so are the clams. The crispy fried chicken was perfectly cooked.
We ordered dessert (shaved ice of some sort) and the corn on it turned it to be off, but the staff offered to replace it immediately and was very apologetic. Very honest and quick to admit fault which is rare these days.
Great place to have your refill of Malaysian/Singaporean food !!! Portions are huge and good value !!! Should have a go at their hainanese chicken rice !!! I also like their deserts such as the sago puddings !!!
My friend and I delighted in the morton bay bug half price special last week! The dish was so generous and tasty. We also enjoyed some side dishes which were fresh and delicious. I thought the atmosphere was pleasant and felt a lot cleaner than many of the Anzac Pd Kingsford restaurant strip.
Tasty Singaporean dishes especially the Chily crab with below average service. I would say this is a Singaporean restaurant with the worst service in Sydney, for the amount of money that you spent you would expect better hospitality.
They put a lot of salt on their dishes hence you will feel very thirsty afterwards.
We called prior checking if they have mud crabs available, upon arrival we were told there are only 2 available: 1kg and 600g.
Everything that we ordered were delicious except oyster omelette and fried tofu.
We would go back simply because the location is very convenient from where we live and we frequently dine at Kingsford.
I've tried the chicken laksa and chicken curry with separate chicken rice here recently as well as the spinach with garlic. The chicken curry was nice and I liked the fact that there were no bones at all in the chicken. The curry itself was hearty and full of flavour. The chicken rice was interesting in that it had no colour at all but still had flavour.
The laksa was alright but not quite as nice as some versions. Interior looked pleasing but I found the service to be just acceptable, it wasn't that enthusiastic.

Was in Kingsford and was after a soup dish to warm me up. The Laska at this Singaporean Restaurant looked the goods from the picture in the menu, so we decided to dine in. The restaurant was well lit and clean. The service was prompt, but the staff seemed like they did not want to be there. We wrote our order on the order sheet. We ordered a few starters. I do like roti canai, so ordered that. We were with a vego, she was of course eyeing off the tofu. I am not the biggest fan of the stuff, but the fried tofu looked nice and I suggested we could order a serve to share. The tofu was suprisingly nice a crisp outer skin with a cream inner. We all ordered Laksa's. I had the Kreta Ayer combination laksa which was huge. I think I said I'm done about 4 or 5 times, but it was very tasty and I could not stop eating and slurping down this delicious soup. The soup had a couple of different types of noodles, as well as some dumplings which was a bonus. This was combined with tofu, prawns, chicken, bean sprouts and probably a few ingredients that I have not mentioned. The coconut based soup was very flavoursome and moreish. My dining companions have spent a fair amont of time in south east asia and were impressed with the laksa. One of the other tables had a Singapore chilli mud crab which provided me with major food envy.
I also had one of the delicous dessert type drinks on the menu named love you so much, I would have called it 'like you a little'. The menu here is extensive, which will bring me back to try more, as will the big portions and reasonable prices.

Anzac Parade at Kingsford has come to rival Chinatown for buzz and quality restaurants. By day it looks pretty ordinary but it comes alive at night and the area just packs out. There are loads of good restaurants to choose from - we eventually settled on Kreta Ayer.
This little diner, named for Singapore's Chinatown district, has plenty of choice - sambals, rendang, laksas - but specialises in crab. The cuisine is Singaporean Malay, with all the fusion Indian/Chinese influences evident.
We ordered the Singapore chilli softshell crab, which was savoury, not hot, but with a little kick like xo sauce. The crab and the sauce was beautiful and we paired it with some stir fried Singapore noodles, salt and pepper squid and a combination laksa that included prawns, egg, tofu and chicken.
We also ordered a Chinese doughnut with prawn stuffing entree, although it all came out at the same time. This was big for an entree and slightly too indulgent.
We ordered a couple of coconut milk and jelly shakes, an Over the Rainbow and a Forever Love, which were delicious and for $5 great value.
Overall we were really impressed with the quality of the food and flavours and will be back.
Been trying quita a few places around Kingsford - This is a good value lunch... Had Singapore Har Mee (prawn, pork, egg, vegetable, egg noodle soup) - fresh prawns!...$12.80 - came with a complimentary lychee green ice tea - very good flavour... Recommended..

Kreta Ayer is a bustling Malaysian restaurant in the suburb of Kingsford, in Sydney's East. It's close proximity to the University of New South Wales makes it a popular choice with students It's always full and most evenings, there is a queue of people waiting outside. This evening The Counts were dining with two dear friends, who's love of Malaysian food is almost as strong as ours making them the perfect companions.
We arrived early on a Friday night and found a table almost immediately (and also avoided the queue which later became quite long). The restaurant has a real street food ambience. There are picnic style tables, with benches or stools. When it comes to Malaysian food, we generally know what we like and what we are going to order before we even look at the menu. Tonight was different though, the menu at Kreta Ayer has over 200 items on it.
Went here to get their Soy Bean Curd for supper and it didn't disappoint! The menu stated it's a serving for 2 but the size wasn't that big in my opinion and there's 20 min waiting time as they made it fresh in-house. Ours came less than 20 mins (it wasn't busy that night) and YES! the texture was so silky smooth and soft! It came unsweetened with choices of brown and liquid sugar on the side, so you can add it to your liking.

The toughest thing about the menu at Kreta Ayer is deciding where to start . There are 217 things to choose from on the menu at this Singaporean restaurant. You’d have to be Godzilla to get through it all, but wait - they have that too.
I LOVE IT. The dessert is really good!!! The beancurd is just perfect, very smooth and freshly made. The durian pudding, durian smoothies and avocado smoothies are highly recommended.
Good cheap eats. Don't normally write positive reviews, but figured these guys deserve one. The portions are generous and the food has an authentic Malaysian flavour. Will definitely be frequenting this place.

Would recommend the pipi's and the shrimp paste beans and the tofu dessert was delicious.
The service was slow but that was because they were under staffed and should get better as there was a 'help wanted' sign on the window.
Will definitely go back to try the other dishes (most likely the the help wanted sign is down).

I have read all the reviews and I think it would be a bit of a miss and hit. I booked a 5 days before hand and when I came, they attended to us fast and knew we had reserved a crab. They showed us the grab before it was cooked. The manager there was very fast in his response and the food I think was about 20 mins wait for the crab. I'm going again this weekend, only because I think it's the best price for crab & taste, modernised Singaporean crab is overrated and too pricey.
It's a 4 star review because the other waiters and waitress was slow and attended to us after I had asked 4-5 times.
