Review Saychol Thai Restaurant - Kew East

Joshua Monk
This place is absolutely amazing. Anybody wanting fresh, clean Thai fusion cooked with generations of experience, this is the place to come. I can’t rate this any higher. Thanks for the wonderful food and hospitality.

Best Thai food I've had in ages. The steamed Barramundi is simply superb. A relatively small menu with every dish done to perfection. Way to go!
Ingrid Savell
Great food and service. Amazing value! Very accommodating for vegan options too.
Craig Guttridge
Good food but on the expensive side. Sometimes quality is different which is disappointing but always return .

I had not been to this restaurant before tonight. I wish I had done so much earlier in their four years of business (I asked the question), as it was easily the best Thai food I have had in Melbourne. Do yourself a favour and go there and/or order take away.

One of my favourite Thai restaurants to both dine in and takeaway. The staff are lovely and welcoming. The cooks are amazing and the food tastes superb. After traveling throughout Thailand, I can say that this food is authentic and delicious.

I can’t share the enthusiastic comments and reviews I saw here. I’ve been to many Thai restaurants in Melbourne but it never happened to me before to eat something so seasoned. Far too much salt (or whatever else they used as a substitute). I love spices but that’s not what this was about. Every single dish my wife and I took was almost impossible to finish. They were at least honest enough not to make us pay for a prawn salad but still we had to pay for the rest. Clearly they can’t cook. This is basics. I won’t go back for sure.

Hands down the best Thai food I have ever had, absolutely addicted!! I would recommend to everyone, especially the yellow rockling curry, that is one of our favourites.

Delicious, high quality Thai at very reasonable prices. Had a great first impression last Saturday and returned 5 days later and had another great experience trying different menu options. Well done John and team! Now we've found you, we'll keep coming back :)

I love Saychol. One of my favourite restaurants. Johnny is a great chef and great host. My personal favourite dishes are Yum Rockling and scallop on betal leaf
Robyn Fox
Without a doubt the best Thai in Melbourne. Chef John is so friendly.

First time trying out this place and so glad I finally did!! Got takeaway which was easy to order over the phone and pick up.

We ordered prawn spring rolls, BBQ calamari, roti bread, jasmine rice, green seafood curry, red duck curry and seafood stir fry. Was amazed by the fact that the spring rolls had huge pieces of prawn in it which was great. The BBQ calamari was very tasty and soft to eat. Roti bread was the perfect accompaniment to the curries. My favourite curry was the red duck curry which had a kick of spice, the duck was very tender and was packed with delicious fruit like pineapple and tomato and veggies like zucchini. The green seafood curry is also delicious and includes a variety of seafood, it is quite spicy so keep that in mind if you can't handle spice.

Very keen to return to this restaurant to try many more dishes!

Saychol is such a lovely Thai restaurant. It is mainly just a takeaway place, but the main chef is the nicest person going around. The people working their are very friendly and nice.

Always amazing, fresh, yummy food. We love coming to Saychol for a quick and easy meal, which is super delicious. My favourite dish is the Rockling yellow curry. Their stir fries are also beautiful. Can not fault!

I ordered Food from SayChoI Thai several times. Friendly and kind staffs. This restaurant is one of the authentic Thai restaurants around Kew East. Pad Kee Mao is my favourite dish.

Highly recommend

Thanks

Suzy
Favourite Thai in Melbourne. Great service and the calamari is an absolute stunner of an entree. Have been back multiple times and the quality is consistent.

Best Thai in Kew and why would you go to Camberwell. This place is small but food is great and has a homely atmosphere. I have been here three times and each time had great food. I would try the fish cakes, Pad Thai seafood green curry and the deserts. Owner is friendly and welcoming. Please try this establishment and let me know your thoughts.

Saychol is tiny little place located in Kew East. The food is great and tasty. We tried tried variety of food. However the pad thai and the duck curry is brilliant. Definitely a no-brainer

The worst Thai restaurant I've ever been in almost 8 years of living in Melbourne. I went with my wife and tried two starters and two salads. Everything was way too seasoned. I'm not sure what kind of seasoning mix they used but it was simply not eatable. I could not finish my starter and the same happened with mains. The food was so salty to prevent us from appreciating any other flavour. I mean we're covering the basics of cooking here. At least, they were honest enough not to make us pay for the starter I complained the most about (that's why I'm giving 1.5 instead of 1), but still we had to pay for the rest. I won't go back, that's for sure.

Outstanding Thai.

This somewhat tiny restaurant in East Kew is absolutely brilliant and you will not find better Thai in Melbourne. Have visited on six or more occasions over recent months, working our way through the menu, all of which has never been other than sensational. Great staff, service and host and very reasonably priced. Good wine list and the opportunity to BYO. Do yoursdelves a favour with this absolute gem.

Great food and generous portions - massaman curry & pad Thai are my favourites!! Take away is always excellent and the restaurant makes the most of the space.

Outstanding selection of food, incredibly fresh, distinct and individual flavors for every dish, very reasonable price given the standard. Some of the best Thai food we have eaten in Melbourne.

Rockling and Prawn with Pear and Mango。

Tom Yum Goong:

Seafood Curry in Coconut:

Rockling and Prawn with Pear and Mango:泰国菜一向是要和水果扯上关系的,很好奇他的梨和芒果炒过的味道,结果自己还是没有办法接受这样加工过的水果。。

High quality delicious local Thai restaurant.
We had the beef Massaman curry, Thai green chicken curry and a beef stir fry. Both curries were so delicious, the stir fry was nice but missing something- not to be re-ordered, and unfortunately the Roti was like cardboard..I'd recommend taking the food home as the ambience is a little lacking in this small venue. Definitely recommended and return.

With the cooler weather arriving soon, a warming Thai curry may be just what you are craving. Saychol Thai in Kew has just what you need with a variety of brilliant dishes that will fire you up. A limited number of tables allows for a personalised experience and the team are eager to assist. Also, don’t forget to look up and admire the portrait on the roof…

Chanced upon this place in Kew East and we decided to give it a try since Jinda Thai is forever booked out. Love the pad thai and roast beef salad. Reasonable portion sizes and good variety in the menu. The curries are delicious. Small place so remember to make a booking.

Fresh, clean flavours! Glad we found this hidden gem! Our preferred Thai in the area. Ordered the chicken green curry and highly recommend the beef salad

Very small Thai restaurant in quieter part of High Street. The restaurant would seat 20 people max.

We dined here on a Thursday night and I think every other diner was a regular going by their familiarity with staff.

3 entrees were tried; the special of grilled calamari plus the standards of chicken sate (sic) sticks and kari (sic) puffs. What's with the weared spalling ??(sorry couldn't halp miself).

Anyway the entrees were all spectacular. The calamari was generous, fresh, impossibly tender with a great chilli kick sauce and magnificently presented. Curry puffs were excellent with maybe the best pastry I have ever had at a Thai restaurant. The satay sticks were freshly grilled over charcoal with a great peanut sauce. The chicken was cooked to just done and had a great char on the outside.

Green curry chicken was good. It was a little too soupy/stocky and not quite creamy enough for my liking but a suitable version for kids or people who want a "safe" curry. We also had the pork belly stir fry which had really clean flavours, crispy pork and plenty of greens. Very good. Roti was perfect. Rice was good.

$101.00 bill including 1 Lao beer and a glass of white which is pretty good value.

Service was efficient. Restaurant felt organised and professional. It's a hidden jem (sic) :)Am I overdoing the spelling gag??

BYO and licensed. This place is perfect for small groups (4 - 6) and couples. Booking essential. The place was full by 8.00pm.

Managed to secure a table here after reading reviews. Happy to say Zomato is living up to its reputation when it comes to honest restaurant reviews. The first thing you notice when you sit down is how clean and sterile the place is.
The food is good no it's better than good it is great. The presentation defines the dishes being served to a "T" the staff are kept busy and happy to ensure the service is top notch. Well done to all the staff. I will be back as soon as I can secure another booking.
Put me on the waiting list :)

We wanted to dine-in but couldn't reserve a table because it's a cosy, little place. You do have to think ahead on a Saturday night because it's popular with the locals.

We opted for takeaway because we didn't want to miss out. However this is not the first time we've eaten here; it usually is our preferred choice when we're having a night in. We ordered Curry Puffs, Gaeng Panang (lamb curry), Gai Hong Tae (chicken and cashew stir fry), with some steamed rice.

This amount easily feeds 3. It's tasty and filling. The lamb is tender with a little kick of spice, while the chicken stir fry is a good balance of meat & vegetables.

When you do dine-in the restaurant is clean and bright, and you can see into the kitchen which is immaculate.
Parking is also really easy as it's located in the quieter end of High Street.
The food at this place is amazing. The flavours are great, everything is fresh, the prices are a tad on the higher side but it's definitely worth it, and the service is great. I always get the food takeaway from here, but looking forward to enjoying a meal in the restaurant next time. The only reason I gave them 4.5 is due to the oily roti and a tad too much oil in some of the curries. Having said that, the food is still amazing- you must try the chicken and cashew stir fry!!

Lovely Thai restaurant. Very small with approx. 30 seats - booking ahead is essential. We order takeaway using their efficient online ordering system, much easier than ordering from restaurants over the phone. The staff are lovely and helpful.

We've worked our way through the menu over the years and have yet to find an average dish.

Pork belly stir fry: my absolute favourite. Delicious pork belly with veggies and a slight chilli kick. I could just drink the sauce.

The Yum Rockling fried fish is great to have in restaurant with its fresh apple + mango salad. Both a big meal and a spectacle.

All the curries are excellent, from the mild massaman with tender beef chunks to the medium hot red duck (including Thai eggplant and pineapple, yum!). Of course, green chicken curry, a Thai classic with the authentic hot spice level.

Fear not, spice phobics - Saychol has you covered. The chicken cashew stir-fry is great - it has a sweet flavour and nice crunch from the nuts. The Pad Thai has a sweet flavour as opposed to the 'blow your head off hot' that is common.

Came here last night and was pleasantly surprised. As the other guests have said, the restaurant is very small, so make sure you book yourself a table. It has a very nice modern and clean decor on the inside and an open kitchen.
We ordered the Curry Puffs and Chicken Satay Skewers for entree. They were a great start to the meal. For mains we ordered the Green Chicken Curry, the Red Prawn Curry and the Steamed Barramundi, along with some rice and roti bread. There were so many nice things on the menu that the two of us ordered enough food for three!
Both curries not only smelt delicious as they arrived but were packed full of flavour, the barramundi was very fresh and had a good hit of spiciness.
Service was very friendly, we had a very enjoyable dinner, the best Thai restaurant we have been to and will definitely be coming back.
MMM
We've eaten here twice and really enjoyed both the great food and friendly experience both times. Tasty, creative Thai food in a tiny restaurant, so recommend reserve a table. The location is good for parking, and easily found on Google maps but beware - the dreaded Apple maps takes you to a previous location!

Went here on Saturday night with our Melbourne friends. Telephoned them from Sydney in the morning asking for a table for 4 and was called back within half an hour. The food was absolutely fantastic. Had a great night with staff happy to suggest, serve, and ensure your night was enjoyable. A+++ Many thanks!!

Delicious, fresh and tasty Thai in East Kew. We enjoyed a wonderful family dinner at Saychol Thai. Friendly staff and owner who went out of their way to make us feel at home. Scallop entree, Pad Thai, Seafood Platter and Chicken Green Curry were all amazing. BYO, great decor and a fabulous menu will have us coming back again.

Been here twice for dinner. Once with a group of 7 and another time with a group of 4. Both times the wait staff were good. Great decor and ambiance, especially the covered courtyard at the back. Food is really good!!!! It's become my new favourite local Thai place. I've tried the seafood platter, a couple of curries and stir-fries and the beef salad. The sauces/curry pastes with all these dishes are really really tasty. Packed full of flavour! Yum. Meat cooked well. Also a plus is that it's BYO. Very reasonably priced also. A real gem.

Simply fantastic.. What a fantastic local Thai restaurant. Could not fault any dish. The scallop entree was divine, packed with flavour. Will be back. Great value
Umeka
So glad you are back! Pad Thai and Yum Rockling are our go to dishes but everything is divine.
CoffeeAddict
Ok. Not the best in the area.. Ordered a late takeaway of prawn spring rolls, curry puffs, massaman beef curry and rice.
Entrees were nice, fresh & tasty.
The massaman lacked in that creamy red / massaman thai sauce. Was also very salty. The beef was delicious and melted in your mouth.
Deal breaker for me was no coconut rice.. And the take away container of rice was half full and definitely not enough for two people.
Would I go back probably not.. Would rather drive for another 2min and go to Sira.

AMAZING! We have finally found the perfect local Thai restaurant. We ordered takeaway and even the chef took the time to say hi. Do yourself a favour and place an order! Great work saychol team xo
Simone Z
Outstanding. The pad thai was absolutely delicious. So were the curry puffs. ..can't wait to go back again.

Thank god you are back! Different location same great food! The Yum Rockling is my favourite. Do yourself a favour but make sure you book as the new digs are much smaller.

Amazing, the chicken skewers were so fresh.. Food is amazing here. Thankyou for the experience.

Delicious authentic food. Particularly love the home made sausage and their pad thai. Will be back

The best Pad Thai ever. We just moved locally and have been hunting for good take away/delivery restaurants around the area. Came across Saychol Thai on Urbanspoon so I went there to buy some food for dinner take away. What can I say, I have tried a lot, and I mean A LOT of Thai restaurants and I can say that Saychol Thai's pad thai is the best one that I have tried so far! Their Thai Beef Salad is beautiful too, definitely worth trying!
The Tastebud
The best Thai ever. We have never dined here in person but this Thai is our local take away of choice. So thrilled that I will never have to cook on a Sunday evening again, as they are now open on a Sunday. We have to pass another Thai to get to this one....
Totally love their food.
Joey
Best Thai ever. I have been to Saychol twice and it is the best Thai food i have ever had the pleasure to eat.Great friendly service with a smile.
I will go again as soon as i can.

Yum. Went here on a first date and the restaurant was awesome. The food and service was great, just a shame the girl wasn't:) Definately back again soon!
Tasty Tucker
Great beef salad and the service was good too. It filled up quickly but the service was still good and not too noisy. Great fresh flavours.
Cmac
Pretty impressive. First time I have been there and this was for take away. Although we only had 3 dishes it seemed to be a cut above most Thai restaurants in Melbourne. I look forward to going there again.
Tony Morelli
I have been here five times now and haven't had a bad meal. The food is amazing. The chef and owner Saychol is very friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Antonio Rendina
For the second time now, the food was sensational. Everything you eat is fresh, plenty and so so yummy. Will be back, again and again. The chef and owner John makes sure you enjoy the night...
Bax
Quality Thai Food. Went there for the first time recently and was very impressed. The pork belly stir fry is crispy, moist and spicy and has instantly become one of my all time favourite dishes!
Louise
DELICIOUS!. I have been there 3 times now, have tried a new dish each time and am yet to be disappointed. The food is delicious, definitely some of the best thai i have ever had.
If you go try the scallop entree it's delicious!
Whilst its a little more expensive than your average thai its still value for money as the quality of food is that much better! And at $60 for an entree, 2 mains, a serve of rice and a roti bread, I would still find that very hard to call expensive.
Would pick it every time over somewhere cheaper.
The staff are friendly and attentive, and the chef clearly takes a lot of pride in what he does. When we were there, he came around and had a chat to all the tables, in his spare time, to see how they were liking their food :)

Just had a magnificent lunch there, fresh, spicy and flavoursome.

Great food & service. Great place for Thai that offers high quality food & service.

Best Thai in Melbourne. I love Thai food and being a Kew resident with 5 Thai restaurants at my doorstep I was surprised when Saychol opened up as we had yet another Thai restaurant.

Saychol is by far the best Thai restaurant I have been to in Melbourne. It actually compares favorably to Mango Tree in London which is a pretty big call indeed.

Do yourself a favour and check it out!
Faddy
Good and authentic. After hearing some good things about this new place, we decided to order some takeaway. We ordered the pad thai, fried ricenand green curry.

The pad Thai was delicious. The noodles were authentically thin, full of flavor and at the right amount of spice. The fried rice was not bad too but nthing fantastic. The green curry was a winner - it was creamy and very tasty.

For our first time, I can't fault this place except on their price. They are a bit more expensive than your average Thai restaurant but the quality justifies it.
Putra Prabawa
The best steam barramundi in melbourne. Thumbs up!!!
