Review Xocolatl - Kew East

Dropped in on Saturday morning with 8 year old granddaughter. She had hot chocolate with orange, and a slice of carrot cake, and declared it 5 stars!

I love love love their mocha! If I could drink this everyday I would 😍 Great customer service always! Oh, did I mention that their OMG bars are pretty special too? Love it

This cafe in a random suburb in Melbourne is the reason Melbourne is the most liveable city in the world as per most ratings. The hot chocolate mocha ☕️is so good that I will travel to this location next time in Melbourne specially to have it. It reminded me of all of life’s 😍wonders. The staff was nice as I worked here for a few hours and I saw them answer questions about the difficult name patiently to many customers. It’s Aztec. Question : After how many times would you get frustrated when people pronounce a name incorrectly? Answer : never, it still entertains me. 😀

What a local gem. Beautiful decor, rich drinking chocolate which is the perfect remedy for a cold winter day. Gorgeous selection of house made chocolate. Great place for that lovely afternoon cuppa.

As someone who's lactose intolerant, Xocolatl has a range of dairy free and gluten free chocolates. Their Noir hot chocolate was amazing. Highly recommend for those who have dietary requirements. Sure to be something for everyone.

Amazing taste-explosion flavour combinations in the handmade chocolates! Delicious flavoured hot chocolates too as well as the usual combo of great quality coffees. Super friendly and welcoming staff and chocolatiers!

Quite a little cafe with plenty of choices in small chocolate at the front cabinet. They make a nice hot chocolate, seeing as their name is basically chocolate, they really follow through and have some great chocolate to choose from.

Like the chocolate , not sure about the service. It had been a nice place to come until this time. <br/>I was treated like a nuisance not a customer. Never will I be back again. You have lost me forever as a customer.

Very average cafe. Lucky not to get 2.5, firstly they don't offer much and it's pretty mediocre stuff that you could get better and cheaper somewhere else. They show off their fancy chocolates but they taste pretty ordinary. There are some good dessert parlours in Melbourne so don't bother going to this place.

The French toast was very well cooked and the orange juice was very fresh and tasty. The atmosphere was nice and quiet and the staff were friendly. Glad I came. Definitely coming again soon. 😁

Ok. So. Let me start out by saying I'm probably the most picky person you could ever meet. But.... you know when someone gives you a box of chocolates, and there are some that you'll like and then there are the others than you taste and aren't that good, so you hang on to them and try to give them to your friends? That is sooo not the case here! I just got the 16 piece and holy crap, I'm in heaven. Chocolate heaven. Like, I'm literally high on chocolate crack, these are so good. They even leave your mouth feeling clean and fresh, which is crazy because normally you feel like you ate something sickeningly sweet and want to brush your teeth, OM NOM NOM NOM!!! Give me MORE!!!!!!!

Lovely cafe with delicious chocolates. The coffee is okay and they have a big range of hot chocolates. Ordered the Spanish chocolate which was a bit dark for my taste, but that's okay, the problem was that the bottom was awful, bitter and grainy. Perhaps it needed to be sieved? Chocolates are the star of the show and top notch - the best are the marshmallow or the lychee, rose and raspberry.<br/><br/>The points come off for service unfortunately. The kitchen is open to the restaurant and there is a lot of noisy banging around. Please invest in a good door or if there is one, I've never seen it closed. Disappointing that whenever I come in, the restaurant is very loud as friends/family of the staff come and have booming conversations. On a previous visit, the children of a lady related to (or friends with) the manager (?) were crawling all over the floor and seating, coming right up to my table while staff looked on. Something like this has happened every single time I have dined in at this store. I have nothing against the staff having friends come to visit, but please don't do your catching up while you could be serving customers. It makes us feel invisible and like we are intruding on some private moment. Surely it can wait until break or a more appropriate location.

LOVE this cafe devoted to all things chocolate in Kew. An extensive, brilliant menu dedicated to hot chocolate with a quirk to suit all tastes. My choice today? The Venezuelan Hot Chocolate, beautiful, smooth and velvety, would have had two if I could afford the calories!!! I also indulged in a dark chocolate salted caramel piece- amazing, will definitely be back!!! I also love the classic feeling the wicker cane chairs and decor gives. Do yourself a favour and try out this gem in East Kew! Its also great when small businesses give back, see the photo of the sponsored child on the cash register!

Our favourite cafe with 5 senses coffee and they have a kitchen that produces hand made chocolate in store. Choc pop is my kids favourite. Nice staffs and owner working in a great atmosphere. They make their version of ice pole. Taste yummy 👍 Everything is just great here 💓

To date, this is our favourite and most loved handmade chocolate store in Melbourne. Run by a beautiful family they have some of the most delicious flavours, our favourite being the rose. If you haven't tried the rose, then make sure you do because it's a flavour you won't forget.

I visited Xocolatl for a chocolate appreciation class. I learnt about how cacao is made into chocolate, its history and how to taste and appreciate its flavours. Also tried a few and got a free 'show bag'! It's a family owned business, father and daughter duo... You can sense their passion and happiness. If you happen to be in the area, I highly recommend dropping by.

Xocolatl (Sho - ko - la - tl). Their truffles are super delicious and decadent. Whenever I go to buy a box for someone, I feel almost giddy looking at all the tiny squares and pyramids and domes of truffled goodness, and I can never decide. Some flavours that caught my eye were Balsamic Strawberry, Lavender, and one appropriately titled 'Elvis Presley', which was a chocolate-peanut butter concoction. These White Vanilla ones really stood out, I loved the colourful painted hearts.

Not happy. Service is quite unpleasant...coffee was lukewarm. No marshmallows for babycinos..overall, nicer places around that treat you like a customer.

Absolutely amazing!! This place has been one of my favourites for a few years. I'm a very fussy hot Choc drinker and these guys have the best around. Their hand made chocolates are divine too!! I've often picked them up as gifts and they are always a hit.

Irresistible!. 7 days a week this amazing chocolate and coffee shop provides the best in everything ! Working in Kew East I am surrounded by many coffee shops, but not one as good as this!! They make the best coffee and hot chocolate, which I get to experience every day! They make beatiful handmade exotic chocolates and they are always experimenting and trying new things. Chris and the staff are very creative, passionate and friendly. During the Christmas season their handmade chocolate gifts are something I love to purchase and send overseas to family. X - Xcellent, X - Xtraordinary, X - Xceptional.

Best coffee in Melbourne. I am very lucky that I only work around the corner from this delightful shop. Every morning one of their beautiful coffee's makes my day! Such friendly staff, beautiful handmade chocolates, a spanish hot chocolate to die for and during the warmer weather their yummy gelati is amazing! Highly recommended, a lovely place to step in to and induldge in all their goodies!

Great Hot Chocolates, Great Service. I had the pleasure of having one of your AMAZING Spanish hot chocolates today and two of your Cafe Vu croissants. As always the staff were friendly and very knowledgeable about the vast range of cakes, pastries and chocolate products. Great double shot chilli mocca coffee! May sound weird but it was wonderful particularly with an Elvis (banana and peanut butter) chocolate!

My vanilla milkshake tasted like frothy milk. Overpriced, arrogant.

Why are take away orders more important?. We are regular visitors to this cafe but perhaps no longer. We waited close to 15 minutes today for our coffees and hot chocolates. This would be fine if they were very busy...but they weren't. The only reason we had to wait so long was that take away orders came in after ours. What is it about a take away order that gives them preference to the orders from those where a person chooses to sit down? How is a take away order person's time more precious than others? This is not the first time we have experienced this and it gets us REALLY ANNOYED! We had nearly frozen into little ice blocks waiting outside for our order.Please make orders in the order they are received.

Xocolatl has a great vibe, is a nice place to unwind after a long stressful day at work, and relax. The cafe has recently installed a state of the art coffee machine which has taken Melbourne's obsession to a whole new level. The staff always seem to be happy to see you and it is a lovely place to sit by the window reading the paper over a cappuccino, philosophising life. The chocolates are good too :) Enjoy!

Chocolate! Coffee! Deliciously Evil Hot Chocolate!. I love this place! The chocolates are all made by hand and are delicious... I especially like the unique mixes... my favourites are: salted caramel, Balsamic strawberry and the cheese and fruit chocolates! Mmmm! Let's not forget, they sell 5 senses coffee. This place makes me very happy!

Fantastic Creative Cafe. One of the best coffee places in Kew. Wonderful selection of handmade chocolates, with unique flavours. The owner's creative talents are well utilised! (he is also an artist - check out his paintings on the wall and self-designed chocolate bar labels). My favourites are the salted caramel, cardamon, balsalmic strawberry and basil flavoured. The hot chocolate is the best. Great place for gifts at Easter, Christmas and ...weddings as bombonieres!

Amazing!. Their chocolates are so decadent and unique - nothing like any other chocolate specialty store I have ever been to. I find it difficult choosing between their very large selection but continue to try new things. Their salted caramel chocolate is to die for. The ladies that work here are also very attentive and sweet.

We ordered hot chocolate. Absolutely delicious. The best hot choc I've ever had. Bought 10 mixed chocolates also. They were good but at $2 each I would have expected a little more WoW! <br/>Will return for the hot chocolate again. :)

Xocolatl. We bought a mixture of chocolates (confessed chocoholic!). They looked amazing and the packaging/presentation was great. Unfortunately they all tasted the same (very rich but no defined flavours)? Maybe we were unlucky and struck a bad batch? :(

This is one of those areas where there is a blind spot and blurred lines. A coffee shop or a chocolate shop. I like it but it is a split personality. It is an unholy union, that works but uneasily.

Xocolatl is family-run boutique chocolate shop and cafe in East Kew. Chocolatiers, Chris and his daughter, Tina, showed us how they prepare their decadent chocolates, which are made from Fairtrade chocolate. Chris and his family wanted to make sure their chocolates helped cocoa farmers, which is why, a few years ago, they decided to make the switch to using Fairtrade chocolate.
