Review Yiannis Tavern - Kew East

Great authentic rustic style food. More than we could eat, we tried the set menu, fabulous. Great atmosphere and live band. Lovely function room upstairs. Recommended.

Wow, I'm very critical when dining out but the staff here were nothing short of exceptional. Just the right mix of professionalism, caring and entertaining. Such warm people. Mary and Moses are exceptional 😀👌 The food was great, super tasty and fresh. And the atmosphere was really nice too. Not too loud but good atmosphere amongst the patrons. I rarely walk away completely satisfied from restaurants but this is one of those places that makes you happy.

The food was fantastic, as usual. I’ve had many a family function here and the service was excellent. Moses gave us fun and professional service throughout the evening and even sang Happy Birthday to my mum. He was friendly, generous and professional. An all around, lovely evening to celebrate my mum’s birthday. As I’ve done in the past, I will continue to bring my family and friends to Yiannis Tavern. Thank you. 🇬🇷

Very accommodating! We celebrated my dads 80th, food was fantastic! Service was great! and they catered for my son who had food allergies, and they were so helpful!!!

Very rude and aggressive staff. They were trying to force us to have the overpriced $50 set menu rather than what we wanted to order. They said that the food will be prepared scatteredly and no one will be able to eat at the same time. Apart from customer service, very mediocre food with tasteless entere. Would not recommend this place if you're planning to have an enjoyable night.

First time eating at a Greek restaurant. Delicious food and wonderful hospitality. Staff made us feel welcome and comfortable. A lovely experience. Will eat there again.

Really enjoyed everything. We had the banquet and left completely stuffed. The fish and lamb were cooked to perfection. Will definitely be coming back!

Visited many times and caters well for large groups with the set price menu. <br/>Zucchini chips are always my favourite and the tyrokafteri. Meat platter is a good option for sharing.

Tried many different dishes and I did not like anything. <br/><br/>This tavern not only has nothing to do with real traditional greek food but also serves awful food. <br/><br/>The meat tasted very bland, like it was deep frozen and low quality. Calamari and Fish were deep frozen and tasteless. <br/><br/>The service was bad and rude too, the waitress was rushing to take the plates even if they were half full. She remove my plate and never asked for permission.  <br/><br/>Anyway, after this meal I felt bloated and did not find any dish that was remotely tasty.

Solid Greek banquet with all the usuals. Reasonable value. Great saganaki as always. The overly dry lamb and the leathery calamari detracted from the total experience however.

Our family came here for dinner on Saturday night. Busy place, full of large family groups of Greek background people having a good time. As it was a Saturday night the $50 set menu was the only choice - no issue for us. Food was good, plenty of it. Not exceptional but definitely very acceptable. Waiter tried to take drink orders at the same time he handed over the drinks menu which was a bit rushed - no chance to check prices. Noticed afterwards that it was $9 I think for a 750ml bottle of mineral water. Lucky we stuck with the tap water!

After reading some of the reviews I was not expecting a lot. To my surprise the service was good and I had no issues on that front at all. The food was excellent and met my expectations of a greek feast. Plenty of dips and bread followed by meats and seafood with just the right amound of salad. Ended with cakes and coffee was on offer. Only comment was that there was probably too much food. The value for the coupon we purchased was excellent. If we had paid full price I would think it was fair value. We did buy a bottle of wine and the basic list was fine and mostly in the lower price range. Overall a good feed and good ambiance. I will go back again and will keep an eye out for the coupons online.

Great food, mixed grill is a must also wine prices very good value. They were apparently down a waiter but couldn’t tell. They made it up to us with complimentary desserts which was pleasant surprise. Will be back for sure.

Four of us absolutely loved the 12 course set menu last night. The host on duty was attentive and happy when serving our meal ( with explanations of everything put on the table ) Loved the home made tzaziki, the cucumber pieces were crunchy and the warm roasted capsicum and feta dip was delicious. The zucchini chips were amazing and the succulent chicken skewers and fish truly scrumptious mmmmmm. Highly recommend.

I had my engagement party at Yiannis tavern. One price was agreed too on multiple occasions for food and drinks. On the night when I was meant to be enjoying my engagement and celebrating with my guests we were asked what we were doing for drinks. Are we BYO or paying the extra $20 a head? From the same lady that we had agreed a price to on an earlier occasion. They were under staffed and over booked and couldn't handle the number of the parties, my guest got their mains at 10pm. My guests had to ask waiters multiple times for a drink and were never received. When one guest followed up with an order. The staff abused her in front of others. I am utterly ashamed of the treatment and sly dealings of this business. My advise stay away and don't book your functions here. You will regret it as I am. I am now aware this is not the first time they have scammed people. Stay away!

We had our sons christening at Yiannis Tavern. And I can't thank the staff enough for everything. The food was amazing and PLENTY of it, the service was exceptional they made everything run so smooth and nothing was a hassle or an issue for them. I would definitely be back for any function and would not even bother seeking anywhere else. We can't recommended Yianni's Tavern enough and I feel our guests would have to agree because all I keep hearing is how the food would just melt in your mouth and flavour that explodes. A big thank you again to Yianni and Moses for making our day one to definitely remember.

Always great tasting Greek cuisine. The ambiance and decor are typically Grecian and one feels like a Greek feasting on endless plates of the best Dips, Saganaki, Calamari and Fish, , Lamb, Beef and Chicken, Baklava and Loukoumia.<br/>

I came here for a christening recently not expecting too much just a normal evening with some good friends. As a vegan, at reception centres it is often difficult to be presented with nice meals as the chefs often struggle with what to make. At Yiannis Tavern, I was extremely impressed, if anything quite overwhelmed. Each person on the table had to share small amounts of food from the middle of the table which I personally found quite disappointing but for myself, I received my own entree, main and desert with a decent amount of food for each. My entree was some crackers with a peanut sauce, tomato slices, cucumber and asparagus. For main I got one large bowl of risotto and another large bowl of salad just for myself. For dessert I got a few dates and walnuts. I was extremely impressed with the food and service I received although felt bad because I was given so much food to eat and everyone else very little. Overall it was a lovely evening with amazing staff and service and was very well catered for my diet.

I am actually shocked at the review given by one of the previous posters for their Christening. The only thing I can suggest is maybe there waa a miscommunication with schedules or times for their occassion. And as for the food, I cant comment but my experience was opposite.<br/>We have just celebrated our twin boy and girl's Christening at Yiannis Tavern upstairs in the reception centre. I've also been here for special occassions at least another 7 or 8 times and each time I have been has been great! Service, food, everything.<br/>I expected the same for our celebration today, and it was PERFECT. Staff are very accommodating in particular Yiannis and also Moses who was running the floor on our day. Our guests we're coming up to us during the day and raving on about the food, how great it all was. <br/>Food is very tasty. Definitely fresh. Drinks on all tables. Staff worked to our schedule and didnt miss a beat.<br/>We would recommend the venue to anyone planning a special occassion. You will be looked after.

We had our daughters christening here last night. This was a massive disappointment. <br/><br/>I walked out of this place Embarrassed and felt sorry for my family all 100 people. <br/><br/>We arrived at 2:30pm: <br/>The food, where was it!!! <br/>Entrè served very late, 3:20pm and though we specified at 5pm we had to leave, the brought the main meals at 4:45pm. <br/><br/>The dessert came to empty tables at 5:20pm, <br/>The christening cake , well no one ate it. <br/><br/>This place ruined our beautiful day for our daughter. <br/><br/>Then to top it off the Owner Yianni, refused to take responsibility. Saying it was our fault not coming on Wednesday to specific the times. <br/><br/>He put the blame on us. After we had specified the start and end on several occasions. <br/><br/>So parents walked out cause there kids did. it get serv d till 4:30pm.2hours after it started. <br/><br/>There was no alcohol in the tables. no wine nothing. <br/><br/>The food was cold and looked like it was prepared the night before, not fresh. The fish was ok. <br/><br/>So o top of this the band who was their friend ate before we the guests did. <br/><br/>I was disgusted and very angry. it chose not to make a scene. <br/><br/>The refused any liability and wife paid the bill. They offered no refund for the guest left and did not eat. They then accused my wife of lying on top. <br/><br/>Never before in my life have i received such a raw deal. I have organised and paid for many reception style events but never met a ruthless arrogant piece of shit like this. <br/><br/>Their business model is simple. <br/><br/>1: promise everything before the booking<br/>2: on the day of the event- become non existent disappear <br/>3: Blame their "new guy" for stuffing it up"<br/>4: delay entre, and mains, <br/>5: delay dessert <br/>6: Blame you for not communicating timeframes<br/>7: Offer you a consolation dinner, but pocket $5000.00 with NO GST ON THE RECEIPT, <br/><br/>So in a nutshell. Do not go to this place. <br/><br/>Horrible people with fake smiles. I'm greek and i would never go back here. <br/><br/>

Was here for an event and the food/service was terrible. We waited 2 hours before being served bread and dips which were mediocre. The main consisted of one souvlaki skewer EACH leaving everyone starving, along with rice that was crunchy and undercooked, soggy salad, and to top it off chicken that was PINK in the middle and totally inedible (see photo). The staff were rude and disorganised. At one stage a waiter put a platter on our table and immediately another waiter yelled at them to take it off our table and to place it on another. In my opinion, this is extremely unprofessional. In conjunction with this, we had a shattered glass and a glass with a rim covered in lipstick stains given to us. By the end, everyone was starving and unsatisfied. <br/>Overall, extremely poor, lazy and disappointing venue.

Had the banquet for a Xmas party on a Saturday night. The place was packed. The food was very good, however, it was very slow between courses. The music was too loud and made it difficult to have conversations with others. Overall a decent Greek restaurant

Food was of a good quality however, don't go there if you're in a rush. We waited over an hour for the main course of the banquet which was $50. The waiter was rude towards some of the people at our table and had to be asked 4 times if we could order a drink. Good food but not worth the wait or the price

Food was nice even though the servings started to arrive after 20:30 & they should have taken there time to bring out other dishes, due to the time you finish the 1st servings the 2nd 1 come out, not enough room on our plate, for 2nd sevings, then 3rd & so on.

Always for the big occasions<br/>..... stay away if you can and the host won't be offended.<br/><br/>This place is always known for the big occasions as it is more like a function centre than a restaurants. Whether be weddings, birthdays, company functions, etc. that's why we are there usually; I think we have two friends got ditched there.<br/><br/>The place is set up with an open floor areas (both floors), long & round tables and food is geared towards a banquet Menu. On a few occasions we've been here, it's always banquet, never a la carte. <br/><br/>I'm not one for banquet, however the last time we went it was good, Sunday night, not too many people around, hence the rating 4.0 all for about $45/person.<br/><br/>From the dips, breads, calamari, prawns and especially those grilled meats, just too tasty, lots of lemons, acidity to balance those good loving oils from the grills.<br/><br/>Desserts was simple, not too sweet and okay.<br/><br/>We shall make more efforts going there for a la carte.

Great food and service and very reasonably priced. Wonderful atmosphere. <br/>Our family has a combination of meat eaters and vegetarians - Yiannis could cater for both very well.<br/>Really liked this place and will be going back.

Went to this place for a birthday. We had a set menue, The food was Very similar to most other greek restaurants. The atmosphere was good. <br/>They had greek musicians playing greek music.<br/>The service could have been better

Wonderful entertainment, great company with family and friends... Although the dining room was divided with separate functions is great to see everyone get along and dance together... Food was delicious however the dips weren't exactly to taste... Needed more seasoning. Calamari nice and tender, chicken and giro was perfect. Overall a wonderful evening and would defiantly return.

Best food and service ever! Loved it! They had live entertainment. The set menu has a great variety and its very tasty! There was so much food we couldn't finish it. I can't wait to go again!

Fantastic food and service.. The best Greek food in Melbourne. The meat is soft and flavoursome and the seafood is fresh. Servings are plentiful. Live Greek music and great atmosphere.
