Great food and service, absolutely enjoy every time visit. Reasonable rice as well. Strongly recommend

This Korean restaurant Onggi Jonggi is located up a flight of stairs on the first level next to an ice cream shop next door, when we came here at 7:30pm, it was quiet and we were the only ones in the restaurant. I've been here a few times now, the food has always been enjoyable, we ordered the pork Bulgogi with 1 extra rice, and the flavored Korean fried boneless chicken, $18 for 6 piece, it's flavored with sweet and spicy sauce and mixed with crushed peanuts. They offer side dishes and steamed egg (Gyeran-jjim) for free to begin with, and came back and offered more when we ran low. Service and time food came out was good. Ambience and location was good too, there is free parking around the corner from this restaurant

Our little go to when we want a soup and don't want to travel too far. Service is a bit slow but food makes up for it.

Our new go to place for Bibimbap! Absolutely delicious and complimented by excellent side dishes making this a great lunch. A hidden gem in Kew (literally, as its upstairs and not very visible from the street with only a doorway).

Good food and excellent service. Very reasonable prices and the portions were good. We had the onggi set and jonggi set, this was shared between 2 adults, 1 child and 1 toddler. We were very full. They pride themselves on making everything in-house and no msg. We will be back. They also have beer on tap, the dispenser is just like the ones in Japan.

Came here bcause i bought groupon voucher set of two. The side dish & fried chicken come out first and then the second & third dish come out after 1hour.. even only 4 table on that night. The taste doesnt have punch like korean food. Not gonna come back :(

Revised : this restaurant is now closed. Authentic Korean food is here~♡ I definitely can be sure the Chef here loves cooking. You can feel mommy's love in each and every dish! Place is clean and upmarket and service is amazing too. Bring family and friends here, you won't regret~

Delicious food^^ I like new food. It's Korean BBQ with cheese. Great taste!
Hungry Hippo
They have quite a decent menu with many options to choose from. At first, I was a bit worried that big menu means just ok food but I was pleasantly surprised as every dish we ordered tasted quite good. They serve authentic Korean food here with a bit of twist. My favourite dish was also their signature dish Tteok Galbi. How can you say no to grilled beef short rib patties with Tteokbokki (rice cake) inside? Haven’t tried this combo together before and I surely enjoyed it. Oh, and no MSG used in their dishes which is always a plus.

Visited 22Nov19:
The owner has excellent hospitality and customer service with skilled table allocation.
He was taking customers to the opposite direction so we don't feel busy around our table and feel comfortable to enjoy dining.

I didn't realise until the end of my main meals but I only saw him entire dining with full seats.

He did all front service by himself without feel rushing.

Bibimbap and Kimch were nice. Another soup was spicy and my sister liked a lot.

Really admired his work. Best hard working owner👍

It was a great meal
So value for money with the lunch deals! Even more worthwhile with the entertainment book discount. The food was really good and the portion was so generous we had to takeaway leftovers. The service was attentive without being overly intrusive. They also served the best ban chan with free refills.

The food is delicious and the sole waitress was very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable when she’s available.

There was only two of us but we wanted to try their signature dishes, bring lotus root chips, Tuk Galbi, tofu soup and bbq plate(beef for two).

Everything was really well made, no complaints on flavour but the dishes came out one by one, a little slow for our preference. I personally recommend the lotus root chips if you want a “healthy” option - pretty decent serving to share up to 4. The serving of tuk Galbi is also generous, in line with the higher pricing of the restaurant.

We ended up having to take away half of the bbq beef since we wanted dessert - we had the jelly which was an interesting flavour.

i only gave a three (3.5), really could be rating four since the service speed could be slightly improved. Well, the night didn’t start off very well. It was a not too busy Sunday night, and I had a reservation for 7.30pm but when I arrived, there were three tables of 3-6 waiting for their food and there was no one at the reception. I waited for 5 minutes while the sole waitress came out of the kitchen to pass on takeaway (or Uber eats) and then went straight back in without acknowledging me at all!

I had to wait until she came out with the next round of takeaways as I stood right in front of the bar.
Will come back for:
+ Seafood pancake
+ Yangnuem chicken
+ Spicy soft tofu, mince and seafood stew

First thing that strikes me about this place is the exceptional service from the moment you walk into the place. Our waitress was friendly, and really made us feel totally welcome and took the time to explain everything to us. The food was by an large pretty good. Love the selection of complimentary side dishes. All of which were delicious and a great way to kick off the meal. Also really love the sticky, spicy and juicy yangnuem chicken as well as the crunchy and fresh seafood pancake. These all went down particularly well with a tall glass of Kirin. Additionally, I was partial to the seafood stew which was spicy, hearty and loaded with seafood. We also had the Healthy BBQ, but found this dish a bit underwhelming. Whilst nice it was a bit expensive for what you get. Will probably order the pork tarian the next time instead. All in all, a great dining experience and we shall be back again with friends.

Onggi Jonggi at Kew. It is a nice traditional Korean restaurant serving family Korean food. The healthy BBQ pork is nice and love the beef rib stew. Definitely a good place to dine with family.

The taste of everything was very good. The service was awesome. My favorite dish was the BBQ with Korean pancakes. Bibimbap was also terrific.

The quality here is worth the price and more important thing is the staff ! Very friendly and helpful.
The side dishes here are also very interesting and delicious as well as the main food.
Bibimbup, seafood tofu stew and bulgogi are recommend :))
Courteous and attentive service. Impressed by the seafood pancakes that came with tongs and scissors. Seafood was fresh and tasty. Ordered the soondubu. Loved it. Will definitely recommend this place to anyone after a good Korean meal. Reservation was very easy too.

After two visits, Onggi Jonggi is our new favourite Korean restaurant.
They do a great bulgogi and bibimbap and the fried chicken is addictive. The free side dishes are delicious and interesting. There are plenty of cheaper Korean restaurants around but the quality here is worth the price.
The service is friendly and the atmosphere is laid back and relaxing.

I was so excited when a new Korean place opened close by. The food itself was quite nice. We only ordered the kimchi pancake and the pork- tarian, however it took 75minutes for the pork-tarian to come out.

The restaurant wasn’t busy or full, however they are severely understaff with only one waitress.
It looked like there were only 2 at the back cooking.

Overall it was a good effort, however I wouldn’t be coming back with so many other better Korean places around the area.

A Friday night visit to Onggi Jonggi was the cure for a long and tiring week of hard yakka. The restaurant had a homely feel and service was politely fast.

The Nurungii salad was a refreshing way to begin our Onggi Jonggi journey. It was topped with delicious crispy rice cakes and the homemade sesame dressing was light with just the right amount of zing. The bar was already set very high but the seafood pancake took things to another level. It was full of delicious crunchy seafood flavour!

Interspersed between these dishes were a variety of refillable side dishes which added to our incredible culinary experience. However, the pork-tarian stole the show! Three kinds of juicy, tender pork were lain on a bed of flavoursome onions. This was the best kind of triple threat...to my waistline:)

What a lovely way to end the week.

Love coming here! Food is deeeelicious, servings are generous and pricing is fair. We have a great feed every time we visit and always order extra so we can have a sneaky snack at home.
Staff here are friendly and pleasant to interact with. There is a genuine feeling of care experienced here. It’s a shame their entrance is a bit easy to overlook, I would love to see them busier and bustling as they’re definitely one of my favourite Korean eateries!
They have a diverse food option and even a variety of Korean drinks and alcoholic beverages. I absolutely love their tteok galbi, tasty and tender on the outside and chewy and doughy in their centre.

This was one of the very few times I walked into a restaurant without reading the reviews beforehand. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was curious to see how the quality of Korean food would fare in a neighbourhood such as Kew, where there aren’t that many Korean restaurants... I just love it when the dining experience turns out better than expected! First of all, the ambience is very spacious and clean, with minimal decorations on the green-painted walls. Secondly, the staff could not have been any more friendlier and attentive. Third and foremost, I found the food to be great value for money (when shared). We ordered the ‘Set for Two’ (priced at $42 in total) and were left feeling so full! We couldn’t finish everything... In general, the flavours were authentic and delicious. The menu has variety and includes all the well-known favourites. It also helps that this restaurant uses no MSG in its food!! I’m a fan of this place for sure! **NOTE: Debit, Visa or MasterCard is okay. Amex or other cards not accepted.

Okay food, ordered the stir fried beef noodle, was tender and overall very nice tasting.
Was good, but not worth the price at 18$, wishing there was a lunch deal!!

The decor and atmosphere was really nice, very relaxed and calm with nice music. The food was great, with nice sides and lots of vegetarian options. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, and the goji berry tea was really nice, as were the lotus root chips. I went here for dinner with my boyfriend and we had a really lovely meal!

A lovely restaurant! Found it through groupon and it was a steal! The food was great, we loved the fried chicken and the spicy chicken cheese dish. The fried chicken was succulent and was definitely the highlight of our meal. The service was great, we absolutely loved the wait staff for the night. I'll be back for more!

Not the most obvious place to eat at in Kew. There's a relatively small menu, so there's a bit of specialisation in certain areas of Korean cuisine.

Overall well done; like most bulgogis most of the flavour is in the sauces and fats and this was no exception. Chicken, pork, well done. Each was was distinct and respectable.

If there's a point this place lacks at it's in the price points. A bit on the expensive side, too often here and you'll wonder where all your money went.

But, not bad for sure.
Clare
Came here with two friends for lunch and we were all really happy with our food! My beef bibambap was excellent with nice crispy bits at the bottom and spicy sauce. My friend had the stir fry chicken with mozzarella which I will definitely get for myself next time. The side dishes were all great and were refilled for us without us needing to ask. I feel like this place deserves to have more customers. I'll certainly be back!

Great food and excellent service. Will definitely be coming back.
Had the Hot Pot. Lots of flavour and not too spicy.
Need a few more options for dessert though. Only ice cream and Korean jelly to choose from.

We used a Groupon and it was good value for a big group but the food was very average. However it was the customer service that made my entire experience so negative. We ordered an ox tail soup in addition to our voucher and what came was a completely tasteless soup with no meat. Even in the picture on the menu had meat. They brought me salt and pepper and told me to add it myself, after which it just tasted like hot salty water - no flavour whatsoever. We asked to refund it and they refused saying this is exactly how it is supposed to taste and their recipe. I was baffled as it literally tasted like salt water. I have had this dish many times in other Korean restaurants and it is one of my favourite soups - this was definitely not that. In the end they still made us pay for the salt water which, whatever it wasn’t about the $20 (not a cheap soup!)
We were the only patrons at the restaurant at prime dinner time on a Sunday night and honestly, I am not surprised. The manager dealt with the situation extremely poorly and did not try to make up for it or help in any way. He did not try to diffuse the situation, instead just made us more upset with his attitude towards us. He did not appear for the rest of our dinner at the restaurant.

The musical chairs continues ...

This restaurant formerly a Thai restaurant has been taken over ... again, this time a Korean restaurant.

A medley of Korean banquet for the four of us, it was slightly different, taste-wise okay, but just not enough care preparing and presenting them. I hope the musical chair stops here, a good Korean joint is needed. JT-13/02/2018

Quick service - from side dishes, entree and main they all came continuously in time.
I loved the chicken bbq with mozzarella cheese, it was a Korean food with a twist. But so unfortunate for the Jap Cae, it was very oily I couldn't enjoyed it much.
Other than that, everything was good, we had a pleasant dining experience overall.

Went here using groupon voucher and was overall disappointed. Eventhough most of reviews here are very positive, i dont find the foods wow me. The place itself is nice and cute, and staff is friendly. Firstly the advertisement that says there are about 5 main dishes is rather misleading because they combined 3 dishes in one dish (all the pork dishes), so portion wise, you are really only getting 3 mains, not 5. Korean fried chicken is something I am always crazy about, but in this one I don’t find it very crispy, i find it very simple like you can just cook it yourself at home, some part is a bit soggy. The spicy chicken dish with cheese is quite nice. Side dishes were just alright, my favourite was the pickled celery which was really tasty and i have not had it anywhere else. Unfortunately they literally gave only like 5 thin slices of it to share between 2 people. Kimchi was ok. Pancake was soggy and not warm. Steamed egg is bland, not seasoned at all (is it supposed to be like that? Would never order it naturally). Pork dishes were ok but like I said, i was expecting a massive feast of 5 dishes and yet only got 3. The tea they gave us is this goji berry tea and it was just ick. I think if the goji smell and taste is much subtle, it could potentially be a nice tea, but it was so strong not in a good way. Oh, and it came lukewarm, not hot. The other drink i got was what they called ‘Korean drink’ which was a can of juice with fruit pieces in it. I had the peach one, it was really good! Would buy it if i see in asian supermarket. So yea, i dont know if this is what a Korean food supposed to be like, but i dont think i will come back.

Came here using a Groupon voucher it was a good deal in terms of price and the amount of food presented. But the quality of the food was very mediocre and lacking some love. The voucher sound like there were 3 seperate pork mains but it’s not so at times it was misleading. Don’t get me wrong still plenty of food. We also requested red wines for us but another waiter came around and ask if we like to try some Korean cocktail instead turns out to be soft drinks so feels like we got ripped off again 🙈 service was ok the girl keep insisting and making a point that she’s filling up the free tea 🙈
Diner
Location - good, abundant side street car parks
Ambience - comfortable, clean but decor a little dated
Food - small serves (especially the side dishes), presentation average, taste better Korean elsewhere, need some modern twist to the dishes.
Customer service - friendly, polite, pleasant, but need to think "outside the box", please don't charge extra when customers ask for chilli sauce.......just some constructive feedback.
Final verdict - possible return, but not probable.

I do not know why this place only rated 3.5 now.
I am Korean and know many Korean restaurants and it is not easy to find a good one for us because we all know how the food supposed to be.
This place is awesome not only for food but the exceptional service. and the price is unbelievable.
We did not bring Groupon with us(I knew later this restaurant offers that service) But eventhough we did not have it, we could receive good price value with set menues they have got.
I and my husband and little boy were well covered with one of the set menues which is less than $50. Because they were always happy to refill the side dishes they offer so we were really full at the end without ordering other dishes.
I would really recommend this restaurant to other Korean friends who are looking for a good one and even to local people. I bet they will love this place.
So if you are hesitating to go this place then please just Go! and enjoy some delicious Korean food!
(only I have got photos before food served.. was busy eating after so cannot find any food photo to prove my review unfortunately!!)
Two Sheds
My very good friend, a cook of some note, and I really like this place. The food is really impressive and it’s very reasonably priced. Plus, the service is lovely. I like Korean food but my typical impression is that the price is usually a bit excessive for what you get. No such issues here. This restaurant offers very good value. The menu is comprehensive with a good range of reasonably priced and tasty dishes. Our favourites were the seafood pancake, the chicken skewers, the seafood noodles and a range of starters including fried pork dumplings. Alcohol is reasonably priced although my only slight criticism is that the wine servings were a little light on. The service is lovely as mentioned. Polite, respectful, efficient and effective. My friend and I rarely disagree but we did about the rating for this place. He wanted a 4.5, I argued for a 4. In the end we settled on 4.2. This is a really good place and it deserves to do well. We’ll be back for sure.

We used Groupon boucher for 2 people course. At first, we thought the potion is quite small but once all the dishes came on table, we knew it was perfectly enough for 2. Quantity and Quality is very good with $50 for 2. We will definitely come back here again.

We enjoyed a delicious banquet on a Groupon deal - and out came course after course after course. It was nice to have Korean food without having a BBQ at the table and we enjoyed a variety of chicken and meat dishes. Especially enjoyed was the chicken with melted cheese. Restaurant is very clean and tidy and staff efficient.

Used a groupon. Would like to conclude with 2 words, MUST TRY! This groupon kickstarted to my korean craze for this restaurant! The boneless fried chicken (best boneless KFC you can try in Melbourne!!!!!), grilled pork belly (amazingly delicious), korean soy sauce (homemade) chicken with mozzarella (amazingly delicious too!!). Service was second to none. We asked for chilli sauce firstly, then decided not and went with the soy sauce for dipping the fried chicken, and minutes later they came out telling us whether our other dishes would like to have chilli or not! Wow very attentive to our conversation! So in the end i ended up no chilli dishes (awesome to us), in which the groupon actually stated a spicy grilled pork neck and spicy mozzarella chicken. Have no choice but a 5 star! Will be back very soon with more food pics!! Updated, am back 2nd time around so soon! With the $89 4ppl voucher, additional dumplings (not bad), garden salad (salad dressing was delicious!), this time the spicy chicken mozzarella (prefer the non-spicy one (request it to the waiter as soon as arrive)).

Excellent service, the waiter explained all the side dishes and i love the steamed egg. Also their tea smell really nice.
I can say the food is really healthy, can't feel any MSG or maybe there's none.
We order jonggi set menu plus stir fried chicken, and that was more than enough for 2.

Delicious and authentic Korean food!! This place serves up really good Korean cuisine with a bright space and excellent service! Loved the beef rib soup - so tender and full of flavour despite its simplicity and the side dishes were perfect :)

This is fantastic and genuine Korean food!
One of the sad things in Melbourne is that Korean restaurants are normally run by Chinese and the food is not actually Korean, this is different.
It is owned and operated by a lovely Korean couple who hand cook every meal.
Recommended!
Hiddenbimbo
Pretty good service. Fast and efficient. This place made me feel like I travelled to Seoul and back. All dishes are homemade especially the side dishes. I could tell by just tasting it. Definitely would be back for more
Precious Taste
Authentic Korean cuisine finally in the east side of town!!
It's like home cooked meal with a lot of attention and care.
Love seafood nurongji tang and Ttekgalbi was yum yum!! Plus all side dishes are great with yummy kimchi.. couldn't ask for more. Will go back for lunch next time since lunch menu looks good..

If you are interested in an authentic Korean experience I highly recommend Onggi Jonggi.
I have eaten tasty Korean elsewhere in Melbourne but this is the the first restaurant I have been to where upon being seated you are immediately served with tea, Korean side dishes (Kimchi +) and soup.
The mandu (dumpling) was really tasty as was the kimchi Pancake. The communal hotpot was just right on a cold night - again traditional just as we had eaten in Sokcho.
Great traditional food and caring staff. inexpensive too - a winner all round.

This restaurant made awesome Korean cuisine. I've been in Australia for 4 years but This restaurant might be my best restaurant in Australia. even if I'll go back to Korea. Tasty is awesome ,Also price is reasonable. I absolutely prefer it.

I love this place.
I ordered a soft tofu stew and I would love to visit this place again just for this :)
Price is reasonable, it goes well with korean traditional rice fermented alcohol ;)

It's very nice korean restaurant. I can't explain how it was great. Foods are looking beautiful. And delicious too! I want to go there again when i want to eat korean traditional food.

happy with foods that our family tried. I had one of soups (Tangs) which had a very proper Korean traditional taste that I could have only in Korea. My husband said dubuseon was very nice and my kids loved tteok galbi. Glad that I found this restaurant in Melbourne.🙌 will try other dishes for sure! However, it will be hard to access for disabled people and parents with prams as the restaurant is not on ground level. have to use stair to go upstair. There were high chairs though. Other than that, 5 stars foods! There were 2P parkings nearby so it was good.
Teddy Tyson
we had a delicious feast of traditional dishes. The Dubuseon was good. The Japchae and Tteok Gabli were both excellent traditional dishes. I cannot remember the other names but we had a great feast

I have been this restaurant with my family last week. The food was very amazing and delicious. We were so happy to find real taste of traditional Korean food in Melbourne. The staff are friendly and the price is also reasonable. I just tried some dishes this time so I'm wondering other dishes. I'll definitely come back again and recommend this restaurant to my friends.
