Review Estivo Restuarant - Kew

Ted Combes
The quality of the food was reasonable but the serves were relatively small. In my opinion, it was not particularly good value for money. The restaurant is licensed and byo. Corkage of $20 per bottle was charged. The waiter did not impress in a number of ways, as already expressed by other reviewers. I would not return, particularly given a number of better dining options in the area.

Went for my husbands 50th and had the small room upstairs. Service and food were both fantastic. Tony our waiter was very helpful and attentive. Food could not be faulted. We had the two course function option which was great value. Sean was also great in helping me to finalise the details for our function. Thank you Estivo

Went there for a promotion on the fork with my husband. It was great. The ambience is nice, the food is nice also. Atmosphere is nice. Food selection was good, presentation of the food was ok. But everything else I liked :)

The gnocchi and the potatoes were quite tasty and a definite must order. The cannelloni was pretty tasteless and was slightly watery. The tiramisu was quite runny and the creme brulee was pretty tasteless too. The staff were friendly and food was served quickly. Overall the food was quite average for the price.

Had a very strange experience here. Food was ok but the service was what really turned us off. Our waiter poured water for one of our party then continued round the table, when he came back she'd already drank hers so he refilled it and called her a "thirsty girl" which really creeped her out. Another of our party put her food order in with the waiter, and ordered an entree and a main. He commented that it was a lot of food "for a small girl" but she stood her ground and he moved away. But when the others got their entrees, hers never arrived. We asked about it and he said "I thought we decided it was too much food for you". Once she got her food, she ate all of it despite being a "small girl". It isn't for the waiter to decide how much people want to eat. Throughout the dinner he filled our water glasses with irritating frequency, and seemed to make a point to lean far too close to one of our party, ensuring his elbow was in her face every single time. And as other reviewers have noted, he had an urgent need for some strong deodorant. Not being in the mood for creepy, over-personal, and rude service, we won't be back. And in case the owner argues like they have with previous reviews, we didn't have a voucher. We paid full price.

A group of 8 of us had a wonderful birthday dinner here the other week & Shaun helped organise the birthday cake which was greatly appreciated. Food was delicious, service great. Thank you so much for a highly enjoyable evening 🤗

Quiet warm restaurant on a chilly night. Had a lovely meal which included calamari, duck confit, scallop risotto, salad and crème brûlée, 2 glasses of wine… Menu had a good selection to choose from. Service and coffee were also good. Will come again.

The lamb Wellington was delicious, the scicillian muscles wasn't so good, the sauce was too diluted so you couldnt really taste anything but garlic. Seasoning was a bit inconsistent as some dishes was very salty and some were just right. Service was a bit mmmm... And if you don't like confined spaces probably not the venue for you. Mid rating sound about right.

The service is terribly slow and quite amateur. The waiting staff are somewhat hamfisted with the plates and glasses. The food is nothing special, but the frequent half-price offer makes it reasonable value. The wine is very reasonably priced.

Have been to this restaurant a couple of times for both lunch and dinner. The lunch menu is great as you have a variety of options and the price point is affordable as well. I also recommend them for functions I have had a birthday lunch which had a set menu and a big table reserved in a quieter area of the restaurant. Have never been disappointed with what I have ordered or the service so certainly recommended trying their great Italian dishes.

We dined at Estivo tonight. Both waitstaff in the downstairs section were offstandish and unfriendly. Our entrees were nice (calamari and musseks). Mains were hugely disappointing. Ribeye steak was very fatty and chewy. Seafood risotto was watery and bland. Vegetarian canneloni was watery, small and pasta fell apart. We will never be back.

I went with my family on the 50% off... just be informed that this doesn’t include items off menu. Still feel a bit ripped off... food wasn’t great and service is super questionable... the waiter wasn’t really friendly.

Avoid like the plague.<br/><br/>Service is slow and dismissive and the food is some of the worse food I’ve had around Melbourne.<br/><br/>I do not recommend anyone coming to eat here.

we went for dinner after seeing that it was relatively popular. <br/><br/>after ordering the beef ragu and finishing half the plate, a piece caught my attention. after showing this to the waiter, he took my food and 'washed' the piece before bringing it back and declaring that "it is just some hair on the beef, not, like, a rat or something".<br/><br/>he then asked if i wanted my food back and stated proudly "don't worry, the owner said the panna cotta is on the house" as though it excuses the $27 beef ragu that was hairy.<br/><br/>would definitely not recommend anyone come to this restaurant, if not because the dismissive service then at least the expensive hairy food.

We visited here using the fork which entitled us to a 50% discount on our food bill, and I have to say my only criticism is the pricing. We had a great meal with friendly service, but if we didn't have any discounts we would have felt severely overcharged. Having said that, if money is no object this is a lovely intimate restaurant to visit for a local date night. I would steer clear of bringing children, but maybe it just happened that the night we visited was mostly couples. Not a bad experience by any stretch, but nothing special, unfortunately :( Pictured are the "special" (which I think runs fairly constantly and is fillet mignon) and the honey glazed beetroot with chèvre

Service takes a long time. Food came quick, but not great, not worth the price. Waiter needs to change his attitude. Would not recommend (thumbs down)<br/>Embarrassment to Melbourne restaurants
Lady Loves To Eat
We came to Estivo for a quiet Friday night dinner, restaurant is in Kew, we expected good service. First we ordered enter, the salmon and the wagyu beef. We’re not picky eaters, we didn’t mind it, wasn’t the greatest, wasn’t the worst. <br/>For mains we ordered the barramundi, its definitely not the greatest, a bit dry, wouldn’t pay $37 for it. We also ordered the crispy pork, that was very dry, wouldn’t pay $37 for that either. <br/>Luckily we had a 50% off offer. <br/>We then ordered dessert.. the panna cotta which was average with a cheap cherry sauce. Also the fondant came out and when the waiter placed it in front of me, I can smell the burntness of it. I let it cool down a bit and dug my spoon into the fondant, I didn’t want to eat the outside because it was black.. so i just scraped the inside, bc it was so burnt the inside had an overwhelming burnt taste and smell to it. My friend tried a bit and agreed.<br/>The 1 and only waiter likes to hang around in the back, or chat with the barrister without any eye contact to the customers. By the time I waved him over my friend had already finished her panna cotta. <br/>I let him know quietly that the fondant was a bit burnt, he rudely grabbed my spoon and started digging into the fondant and angrily took it to the back. He came back and told me the chef is making me another one. I didn’t want to eat another one as it was too awkward so I said not to worry and if we could please have the bill. The waiter said the chef does not agree its burnt and that the system doesn’t let you cancel off an item. I was not impressed and said that is not my problem, they can manually deduct it then. He then left and came back and said he had made a phone call and was able to deduct it and gave me the bill. He did not even apologise.<br/>The service is appalling, we will not be coming back or recommending it to anyone. Maybe a new waiter would turn things around.

Came here with the 50% Fork Festival Offer. Was seated at a nice table near the windows and the overall vibe was quite nice and inviting.<br/>The service was really good and food came really quickly<br/><br/>Good:<br/>- Garlic Bread- really crispy but I think quite expensive for the price<br/>-Crab Arancini- really crispy and the sauce was nice but couldnt really taste the crab<br/><br/>Bad:<br/>- wagyu carpaccio- it was really chewy<br/>-barramundi- the fish was cooked really well except the mussels and clams were not very fresh<br/>-pork belly- some parts were juicy and some were really dry<br/>-slow cooked lamb- the pastry it was wrapped around it was quite oily.<br/><br/>Usually these are $37 and I don't think I would want to pay that much for what we got

Never come to this place! The manager was horribly rude, verbally abused myself and two young kids. The food portions were tiny, the $19 entree seard scallops you got two of them. The $40 steak half sized of regular size you got. The orange juice was rotten and the dessert was terrible

I thought the risotto with asparagus was the best meal I ever had! The waiters are friendly, and they have a good taste for the food in the menu. Their dessert is the best!<br/>#iluvfood

Very bad experience with the food and the management of this restaurant.  Food was very salty and servings were extremely small especilly the Entrees.  This would been enough for me to never go back to this restaurant.   On top of this, the manager did not give us the Entertaiment card discount even though it was clearly advertised that we were entitled to a 25% discount.

Very disappointed. Food was bland, service was bad. Definitely not coming back again. NOT recommended at all. And not deserved 3.9 rating here at all.

I was looking forward to eating here as there are plenty of good reviews and the menu looked good as well. However ... It would be nice to have a waiter that doesn't have bad underarm odour (and it was early in the evening too, so that should never be an issue). It would be nice to actually have value for money (which wasn't the case with entree being as small as it was). The entree came (the salmon terrine) and it was maybe three-four bites worth for $19. I ordered the gnocchi pomodoro and it was very, very inconsistent. Some were soft and fluffy (the way they should be) and some were hard and almost stale tasting. The waiter didn't even know who ordered what dish and kept putting everything in the wrong spot. The one semi upside, was the dessert which was quite nice. A nice chocolate fondant with cherry ice cream ... <br/><br/>I just didn't find there was value for money here, and I didn't think (sadly) the quality of food was all that good. I certainly didn't leave here feeling full, and there really was nothing redeeming enough to warrant me coming back here when there are nicer Italian restaurants to go to. It's in the Gold section of the Entertainment Book, for which I was expecting a higher level of restaurant than what Estivo is. Disappointed.

We had a wonderful experience at Estivo. The food is sublime, with flavours that bounce off the plate. The service is excellent. A true gem. We will be back.

This restaurant is very ordinary and don't expect the fine dining experience you might be looking for. It clearly is in need of a revamp and the waiters lack personality. We started with an entree of seared prawns and had to pay an extra $6 for an extra prawn so we could share 2 each. The mains were a shock as they were very small servings and for the price you pay you are left hungry and with a rather large bill. Not coming back.

Decided to try this place recently. I was always a little hesitant with the pricing. We started off with the crab arancini... the presentation was great but the actual arancini itself lacked so much flavour. It definitely needed the sauce! <br/><br/>We tried the penne amatriciana, it was quite tasty but not the conventional flavours and the gnocchi was quite good! Maybe slightly salty if I’m to be quite picky. But not a deterrent!

Came here for lunch on Father’s Day. Ordered the scallops for entree - these were tiny and overcooked. For mains two of us ordered the beef mignon, there were charred to the point that we couldn’t even taste the bacon. <br/>Dessert of chocolate fondant and ice-cream was the only nice thing we ate here. <br/>Overall it was not a poor dining experience. Will not be returning ever.

I honestly never write reviews but I just have to share this. I came here on the Dimmi deal with my family on a Saturday night. My overall experience was one of the worst I have ever received and unfortunately it was all due to one male waiter. His mannerisms was absolutely appalling. My 10 year old cousin politely asks if there is wi-fi available which he responds abruptly with just "No, you do not know what terrorists might do". It made absolutely no sense. <br/><br/>I also asked if a birthday cake could be stored into the fridge which he responds rudely with "No, you guys are using the Dimmi deal so don't think you will be getting half price on the service fee. it's not going to happen." It seemed like he was not very good at listening because it took a couple of exchanges for him to realise that all I wanted was for the cake to be in the fridge so it wouldn't melt.  <br/><br/>The "highlight" of the service was when he bought over 3 plates of the same exact pasta that we did not order to which he responded very bluntly and aggressively with "No! I double checked your order, you said you wanted this. There is absolutely nothing I can do" I honestly would not had minded if even just one of the dishes were replaced but to place the blame on us and to not be willing to compromise? It was really disappointing. This experience made me realised how one family gathering can be ruined by one person. <br/><br/>It's a real shame because all the waitresses there were lovely and attentive. Besides the mussels, the food left nothing much to be desired as portions were quite small and the taste was bland. I guess the positive end of it all was that we did not pay full price for it all. I cannot believe they would charge 17$ normally for 4 slices of tomatoes with a small bit of cheese on top and call it a salad. Unfortunately I did not get this waiter name but he is tall and bald. I warn you all to be careful. I realised that I probably should had spoken with upper management but this man made it quite close to impossible for that to happen. I simply just will not be coming back and will be telling all my friends about this ordeal.

We came on the history of awards this restaurant has had but were very disappointed. We are fussy and Italian and cook well ourselves but our local Italian club is much much better.
Sara Handley
Food was great and excellent service from most wait staff, however the older male waiter was extremely rude. He literally rolled his eyes at me when I asked if I could have a couple more minutes before I ordered. He slammed the plates down so hard that the cutlery jumped out of the salad and landed on the table. He smelt SO bad of cigarettes it almost put me off my meal. Other than the rude waiter the rest of the night was great!

Estivo is arguably one of the best restaurants in Kew and over time we have been to most of them. At successive visits I have worked my way through most of the meat dishes and have never been disappointed. <br/>The service is friendly and efficient and the menu for a small intimate restaurant okay, but limited if you don’t eat meat.<br/>Estivo is BYO if you want to bring your own bottle of ‘Penfold Grange’ but plenty of reasonably priced options if you don’t!<br/>Enjoy!!<br/>

Quality: 🌸🌸🌸🌸<br/>Service:🌸🌸🌸🌸<br/>Taste:🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸<br/>Ambiance:🌸🌸🌸🌸<br/>Value:🌸🌸🌸<br/><br/>The smoked salmon terrine was beautiful, the seared scallops melted in your mouth, the wagyu carpaccio was great and unusual, the mussels were also yum. <br/><br/>For mains I had the beef cheeks and it was great but the mains are pricy if you pay full price. However the sizes are a bit small.<br/><br/>I didn’t like the beetroot with goat cheese but the desserts were fabulous. Especially the chocolate fondant, I could’ve ate 10! 😍<br/><br/>Also, the upstairs is very nice. It’s secluded and quiet so you’re able to take to people on the table !!

Came here on a 50% dimmi deal which made it extra worth it. Highlight was the barramundi in a prawn broth which was very good! other than that, the arrancini was a bit bland, pork main was good also and chocolate cake also nice.<br/><br/>Waitress was very friendly and attentive also!

We dined here on a night with interstate friends and took up a special discount deal. The food is promising but lacking in quantity. Scallops risotto with 3 scallops and needed more cooking. The rest of the night followed this lead for 3 of 4 guests. So good food, excellent service, definitely has promise but food just needs a bit more attention.
Francesca
The meals are delicious however the service us slow and staff are oblivious to clients. Lacking in customer service, no smiles, no conversations with customers except for the maĂŽtre d', however weird he was. <br/>As the below review, staff were more interested in setting up tables than looking at you. <br/>We went with the in laws and they felt the meals were a little small, of course Estivo is fine dining without the experience.
Flabnbone Food
When Dimmi had that half price dining promotion in Feb this year, we went to try out Estivo for half price. It was sooo good. The seafood broth and seafood pasta were both superb, flavorsome and fresh. The dessert (creme brulee and panacotta) was amazing as well - not overly sweet, very light, and had the perfect texture to it. If it weren't for the half pricing dining, it would have been a pretty pricey meal so that's why its a 4/5. <br/><br/>Instagram @Flabnbone_Food

Food was fantastic with attention to the small details and well balanced flavours, however service was curt and cold - might be because we ate there on a dimmi booking, giving us 50% off food; we were certainly made to feel that way. Would have given it full stars if the service was friendly and warm.

Came here on 50% off dining booking through Dimmi. We were very pleased with our entrees and mains. Loved the wagyu carpaccio and the calamari. My spaghetti marinara came in a big potion size and pasta was cooked perfectly el dente. The veal was a bit salty however. Apart from this, service was wonderful. We had a lovely waitress who was friendly and attentive. The establishment is for fine dining and the atmosphere was intimate and just right for a lovely evening out with close friends or family!
Speccy
Service & setting lovely. We came on a deal which made it amazing, although if I was paying full price I would have been a little less than satisfied with the carpaccio which needed some chilli/lemon to cut through & give it some ooomph. The scallops were small but delicious. Mains was the duck, which was only so so, again needed some more interest in the sauce to add some punch. The angus mignon wrapped in bacon was AMAZING & would come back for that & the beautiful dark chocolate fondant! Wine, lovely selection
Dinner Out
Food is not fresh it’s defrosted.<br/>The meals are not exactly what is described on menu.<br/>The hygiene of the place needs to be looked at for example one customer leaves the table so to prepare the table for the next customer they wipe table cloths down and then reset them or if they are dirty they turn them over.<br/>Napkins and forks dropped on the ground and then placed back on table . Bad hygiene practise from which makes me very nervous what goes on in the kitchen.<br/>Over priced for what it is .<br/>Try mister bianco the restaurant across the road it’s Italian food at its best and the prices are the same but for fresh brilliant food that is faultless fine dining.
I Love Food
Dined here for dinner last night as a group of 4 on a living social group deal. We each had 3 courses & a drink for $158 - great value. For entree I had the seared prawns, other diners had the crab meat arancini & wagyu carpaccio. For main I had the beef cheeks, other diners had the prawn risotto, angus beef mignon & veal scallopini. For dessert we had the choc fondant & tiramisu. We all enjoyed our food, tasty & generous servings. Great value deal.

Stunning Night<br/>Party of 20. Every aspect was faultless...the food, the staff, wine list were all perfect.<br/>Highly recommend.<br/>Warm Congratulations to the "Estivo Team".
Mouseman
No complaints about the food. Could be a better entree menu for those that can't have seafood. Also a pet hate of mine is when the restaurant asks if you want bread for a small charge. Either give it for free or stick the costs on somewhere else.
Pinch Of Bacon
The food here was great. The wine list was also really good. There is a lovely atmosphere in the restaurant and the staff were attentive. Definitely happy to visit again!

This place was great, then it slipped to good and Friday's meal? The worst food I've had at a restaurant in 10+ years - AND expensive. The Calamari is the only reason I'm giving a 1 - it was tender. The oysters killpatrick were overcooked with dry bits of bacon smothered in cheap bbq sauce - bloody awful. The "Special" rib eye - was a rib cut down the middle - over cooked, dry, tough, drowned in a brown sauce that lacked as much flavour as the meat itself. Never going back - such a shame as it used to be a great place - new new management, same old menu but clearly a chef that has no place being there & a complete rip off when compared with other places @ the same price
Two Bears And A Fork
We had pretty high hopes for Estivo, especially since we went for our 17th anniversary :-O There was some good, and some not so good. Click the ↓↓ link below ↓↓ to find out how our evening went!

This has fulfilled the promise time and time again. The dishes are somewhat singular in taste and yet varies with very little effort whenever dine.
Secret Taster
We've been here twice. The first was good attentive service. Great food and the wine is well priced. The second time, food and wine is still getting the thumbs up, but the service, was, well, not quite there. Got seated and given the drinks menu. We ordered the drinks and got served our drinks. And then, we waited.. and waited ... for our food menu. There was three staff on the floor. One was busy cleaning glasses, and two was ??? So I'm trying to flag attention to the staff who was cleaning glasses. U know that crap feeling u get when ur trying to get attention from someone who isn't even looking ur way - the minute their head turns slightly ur way or past u, u stick your hand up, only to be disappointed when they didn't notice a thing. I had to try and get attention again when we wanted to order our food. Getting annoyed by this stage. <br/><br/>Couple of times we had to ask for our wine glasses to be topped up. If they were too busy, they were better off just leaving our bottle on our table. I really felt like I was just needing to try too hard to get service the whole night. <br/><br/>The thing is, at this time, most patrons were gone. The place was not busy. But it just felt like they were more eager to clean and go home than serve. <br/><br/>

I'd heard many good things about this restaurant and I must say all were correct. Estivo is a sophisticated, intimate dining experience with exceptional food. I especially like the way the wait staff are attentive but not over-bearing. The food is stunning in taste and presentation and is well spaced between courses. The veal was delicious.  Very refreshing to find a quality restaurant not filled with diners taking annoying photos of their food plates. A+ on all counts.
Travelling Palate
I am a massive fan of Estivo's express lunch. A one, two, or three course option. A large number of choices for each course and everything was delicious! The service is pleasant, helpful and not overbearing in the slightest! Will definitely return!

Food was lovely however the service reminded me of an episode of Faulty Towers! The 2 female wait staff were lovely, but the young man who was front of house had many similarities to Manuel. Multiple errors throughout the night including an incorrect dessert order, 'Manuel' left this on the table despite us say that we did not want the dish multiple times - he then returned 5-10 minute later explaining that if we did not want this he would give it to someone else, it was then moved from our table to another table in the restaurant. <br/>We purchased a bottle of red wine at the start of the night, on going to fill up the glasses it appeared he had lost the bottle of Red, which then later reappeared but seemed to be a never ending bottle (i think we may have ended up with another tables bottle also). Despite ordering a coffee with our dessert, we were asked 10 minutes after receiving the dessert if we would like our coffee - he then told the table next to us that he would not "lie" and that it would be 5 minutes until he made the tea they had requested some time earlier. Finally, on presenting the bill our friend 'Manuel' went through all items only to find all wine was missing, he promptly corrected this and returned to the table offering to provide a full explanation as to what had happened - we declined.<br/>An incredibly entertaining night...but perhaps not in the what they intended! All meals were lovely though and I would recommend a meal there!

A few visits later<br/>A different vibes, changed operator but I'm okay with that, at 50% off for food, why not. <br/>PREVIOUS<br/>Slowness is the key here ....<br/><br/>Don't go too fast down High St, Kew, you will drive pass this place ... <br/><br/>Not much signage on the outside, small, quaint, smart looking, more like the local's secret.<br/><br/>A business friend introduced us to this place, so from the many times we are there for "mostly" Friday long lunches and a few dinners, always satisfied.<br/><br/>Apart from their exquisite, well-prepared, well-made, great quality yet simple looking on the plate, they take their cooking seriously and personal hospitality seriously.<br/><br/>Never a bad food (always something seasonal) and reasonable great Reds to go with it.<br/><br/>One place you must dine in Kew if you can appreciate "modern" old school personal hospitality, you must have time to enjoy it properly.<br/><br/>ENJOY, can be addictive.

After reading the mix review we decided to give a shot at estivo.<br/>I must say we all agree from start till finish we had a amazing night.<br/>And their Byo Wine Promotion is wonderful, and they don't charge Corkage either.<br/>A must go Restaurant, We will be back soon

Despite the relatively low rating of 3.5 on Zomato, I visited Estivo with my family impressed by the numerous Good Food awards it had received. However I have to say I was not particularly impressed by my dining experience. It not too say it was bad but it wasn't great.<br/><br/>Estivo has an elegant atmosphere with a welcoming waitress that showed us to our seats when we arrived. We ordered scallops & mussels as an entree which was brilliant and set the expectations for the rest of the meal. However the main was not as impressive. We had barramundi & tiger prawn, angus steak & pork. All were cooked well but presentation was ordinary and taste was just okay for the price. <br/><br/>Despite a number of people in the front end of the dining floor, tables were served by only one waitress. This meant service was not great and something as simple as keeping diners water glasses full was lacking. <br/><br/>All together the dining experience was good but not great. It is a real shame as there is much potential for this restaurant.
GGx
Meal - We had the Express Lunch 2 courses + Glass of wine - $30.  Most had the Barramundi and some other ordered the beef ragu. Our main meal dish sizes were disappointingly small and there was no sign of any prawns or kataifi pastry as the menu read. The beef raghu didn't look much inspiring though. The desserts (creme brulee and chocolate fondant) were a bit of a step up.<br/>Price - Average. Portion size - Below average - hardly a main size serving.Service - Average, When we were around there were 1 person minding about 4 tables. It was a little patchy, but our waiter was knowledgeable and friendly.<br/><br/>Overall experience was very mixed, don't reckon i'd be back there anytime soon.

I have never been moved before to write a review such as this but feel compelled. It was my second visit with friends after vowing I would not return about 3 months ago after a very poor dining experience. However friends had booked so reluctantly I trudged along again and hoped for an improved dining experience.<br/>Alas this was not to be and as a local Kew mother with a vast array of friends I will spread the word not to come here.<br/>3 steaks were supposed to come with prosciutto and only one did. Upon complaining to our waitress she apathetically advised that the chef said the prosciutto was there ...but it actually disintegrates in cooking.....yeah right!<br/>Then to our amazement we noticed that one of the cooked eye fillets still had plastic wrapped around it. The response from the kitchen was "that this sort of thing happens" - making us feel that we were over reacting.<br/>After making our complaints we were not even offered any apology, or even a token discount.<br/>Estivo has now lost 4 families permanently plus many more that we will share our disappointment with.

Was here a while back for Mother's Day and had the 3 course dinner. While the food took a bit long, which is understandable as the place was packed, all dishes were excellent. The presentation of the food and the service was superb.

I see that there haven't been many reviews in the last couple of years, so here's mine. Estivo has been in Kew for many years, and it looks like it's had new management in the last couple of years.  The current team are serving good food. Reasonable price for upscale food, especially if you go Mon-Fri and choose their 2 course set price menu including a glass of wine.<br/>Wagyu beef carpaccio is nice for entree. Often they have Tempura oysters as a special for entree and they are my favourite - delicious, juicy on the inside with a light batter served back in their shells - yum!  For mains, the steak is absolutely delicious. Duck good also.

Ok food, weird service. The food was nice, however the staff seemed to be a little confused and seemed to be a few of them with nothing to do. Maybe they were trying to look busy and have been told they have to be doing something at all times? Not sure. Anyway because of this, the service was a little intrusive as in they were constantly interrupting my friend and I by asking us questions and checking on us, for example we were asked 3 times by different people if we wanted coffee, we said no each time and they kept asking us if we wanted more water etc,....we had only just finished our dessert and they were hassling us to leave, we sat there for maybe 5 minutes chatting but they kept bugging us so we finally agreed to get the bill to shut them up. It was 9:15pm, at night and there still many other diners nowhere near finished so I am unsure why they wanted to rush to get rid of us? Its not as though we were preventing them from going home, and its not as if we were taking up valuable table space for new diners at that late time.

It was a lovely night out, Estivo by far exceeded both our expectations. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and we look forward to coming back!

The food came out at a decent rate and our water was topped up. The staff were perfectly polite and accommodating when I asked for a vegetarian option as there were none on the menu.

Estivo is a sophisticated Kew restaurant. The menu features delicious Italian food best indulged in with wine. We enjoyed the comfortable surrounds and warm service and cannot wait to return.

Amazing food with exceptional service

Estivo could almost be two different restaurants, one walks off the street into a busy modern dining area, lots of glass, a few seats at the bar, contemporary decor and a modern vibe.

I have been here with my husband whilst entertaining clients. Service is mediocre considering prices for dishes. We have giving it a go several times in case we have just been on a bad night but unfortunately the attitude of the place has let us down each time. Disappointing.

Great Lunch Deal. I took my parents out for lunch today at estivo, everything was great . food, service and atmosphere. And they have this great lunch deal under $20 with a glass of wine.<br/>Thanks estivo for a nice lunch will be definitively back ...

Excellent Excellent Excellent !!. Can be on a little pricey side but the food and service is worth it. Me and partner went here last Saturday ( 31st Jan ), staff was very pleasant and friendly. We had scallops and prawns in entree, tasted perfect!! Also thoroughly enjoyed slow cooked lamb in mains. Will highly recommend this place.

With the change of ownership this restaurant has unfortunately gone downhill a little. Whilst the staff were pleasent and tried their best, it was evident that all of the professional waitstaff are gone and the food lacks the refinement and flair that it used to. A pity as we had been going for many years.

Very disappointed. We have been going to Estivo for a number of years and have always found it to be very good. We went again this week and much to our disappointment the food was very very average. Prawn entrĂŠe $18 consisted of three prawns, my duck confit Maryland $37 looked as though the duck had had malnutrition and the onion tart was a round 2inch disk of cold pastry I did not see any onion on it. Dish was also served lukewarm the restaurant was not busy so no excuse. The pork belly my partner had was large but chewy with no crackling just soft skin. The extra side dish of potatoes was terrible. They are offering express lunches and dinner specials and also take the Entertainment Card which brings the prices down but when the food is this bad you can certainly do better elsewhere. Pity it is such a nice restaurant. Restaurant staff were very welcoming and their service was good.

Mobile Review. What a superb restaurant. The food was beautiful & staff all very pleasant. We had a great night & can't wait to go again. Highly recommend Estivo.

Great Little Gem!. Quiet, comfortable and cozy setting. Loved how we were greeted at the door upon arrival and seated straight away. <br/>We ordered Wild Barramundi & Crispy Pork Belly - both fantastic dishes.<br/>The staff were friendly and engaging.<br/>In summary our experience was a solid 8/10.
Charlize
Absolutely cannot fault it! Ambiance cosy and warm, staff welcoming and attentive, food..... AMAZING!! I had the beef, potatoe rosti and jus and my partner had lamb ragu! We also shared the most divine seared scallops, pea purĂŠe and beet root purĂŠe with caramilised onion and chirozto for entree.... By far 2nd best meal I've ever had..... Coffee delish.... Great menu..., just can't fault it and we are extremely fussy in standards...

A very good local restaurant. We are semi regulars at Estivo and as always they deliver an interesting menu, tasty food and really professional service. Great decor and ambience end up delivering an experience worth returning for.

Avoid this place. Had dinner tonight at Estivo. I would suggest avoid this restaurant if you want a great dining experience. We were a party of guests, the service was genuine and the young girl serving made efforts to do the right thing but that was it.<br/><br/>Being in the food and events business for many years I am somewhat critical but when prices are so high then you expect better than bistro meals. This was even a poor version of bistro at best. My friends and I swapped and tasted each others wondering if we were missing something.<br/><br/>Lets look at the pasta dish with ragout,.. Well if you spend this much money on a pasta dish one would hope the pasta was home made.. but no. It was a packet pasta, neat ridges and bunged on the plate/bowl.<br/><br/>I ordered the risotto. It was an offering in either entree or mains cost. I wanted a real Italian risotto and although it had a pleasant taste and as we hear in so many cooking shows ...well seasoned, the rice was so overcooked and all the sauce had been absorbed that it came to me as a plate of paste. A mound of stodge with cheese throughout binding the overcooked starch. Not even a dribble of liquid to moisten it. I should have sent it back but it was a party and I did not want to cause any problems. <br/><br/>Two of my friends ordered the Angus beef and wrestled with it as it was tough. I watched them tackle the sinew still on part of the cut and then shave manageable pieces from medium rare cuts into their mouths. They enjoyed the jus. Well that was at least something as they were not too happy at the offering for the cost. Again it was a party after all.<br/><br/>Receiving slices of bread one per person, then asking for more we were told there was a limit per person of two slices. We were informed the restaurant would run out of bread if another serve was provided. The funny thing was we eight people and this request came midway to service and was well after bread was first placed down and the pre dinner course. <br/>Butter was slow in coming as was sea salt which we asked for. Glasses of wine were removed prior to them being emptied by the overenthusiastic yet young waitress. Not a problem as she had a lovely manner and recognised her haste.<br/><br/>All in all hugely overpriced, pretentious on menu, poor food and certainly no food industry professional would believe Estivo delivers what it promises. This restaurant really needs to have a look at what it is doing food wise.<br/> <br/>There was duck on the menu which I would have chosen except it sounded like dessert. Cointreau orange sauce, ( sweet ) kumara ( sweet) pea puree ( sweet ) Who thought of this?!<br/><br/>What a shame there are places that charge such enormous prices for such poor quality. At end of the evening I asked guests would they consider returning and they all said no. That about says it all.

Great food. Beware the bizarre corkage arrangements!

Being a chef I am always looking for new restaurants to try. I heard about estivo through the grape vine and only heard good things. But I assure you it is worth giving a miss. From the moment I arrived the service was pathetic our table was unbalanced our plates where filthy and we waited more than twenty minutes for a piece of stale bread and menus. I ordered the carpaccio of wagyu which was completely tasteless and lacking in ever aspect. A simple drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of sea salt which I did myself made the dish eatable but certainly not enjoyable. As for main I chose the barramundi. Wow! What rubbish. Half was over cooked the other half almost raw serves with buttered spinach it said, yeah right enough for a mouse the prW it was served with dripped with oil and tasted like one in which would be served and your local fish and chop shop, oh but Waite it came with a tomato foam! Yeah right a teaspoon of what tasted like canned tomato soup blended with some butter. My partner had the seared scallops which was served with a beet root and pea purĂŠe. What can I say, if you like cold rubbery scallops served with plain tasteless crap this is the dish for you. But the worst is yet to come the 12 hour slow braised lamb neck wrapped in pastry. Plain and simple it's the worst meat pie you will ever have only you will have to pay $40 for it. To top it off we where never asked how our meals where or anything at all In fact. Trust me don't waste your time here. Jew is filled with great places to eat this is NOT ONE!!!

Great service, stunning & tastey food, nice place! Would highly recommend.

Hidden gem in Kew. Last dined here over 4 years ago and was apprehensive about returning given the change in ownership and mixed reviews. However, I was pleasantly surprised and my experience was just as good as it was 4 years ago. I ordered the pork belly for main, it was a generous piece encrusted with crispy skin and melted in the mouth. For dessert, I had the chocolate fondant. It was a thin oblong slice drizzled with chocolate sauce and accompanied with vanilla ice cream and raspberries. The dessert looked unappealing, as the fondant was thin, not the usual domed shape and the ice cream (barely half a scoop) was rapidly melting. Despite the presentation the fondant was rich and delicious. Definitely needed the raspberries to cut through the richness. I would revisit. P.S. they do accept the entertainment card.

Delicious food, atmosphere was romantic, waiter was lovely but flustered. Only 2 tables were occupied and well I'd hate to go on a busy night.

The very first time I went to Estivo a few years ago, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food and the restaurant environs.<br/><br/>Unfortunately I can no longer say the same thing. Overpriced and average food. Nothing creative or tasty to justify the $38 or so you pay for the main. Could have gone to a number of other places for better food and paid less. Disappointed really. <br/><br/>Went on a hot day and sat upstairs with an old air con that didn't work well. Was cooler outside with a nice breeze when we left (which was sadly one of the better parts of this evening).

Early bird doesnt catch the worm. We chose to visit with friends for the early dinner special last night which really didnt meet expectations.<br/>Entrees of Scallops and crab were both lovely with delicate flavours and great presentation.<br/>Mains of duck were not tender and sides of potatoes not crisp, rocket salad quite bland and not a substantial serve of any dish for a main meal. <br/>The glass of wine included in the dinner meal was not offered to any of us throughout the evening. The wines available per glass are limited and the bottles quite overpriced.<br/>Too many extras needed to complete the dinner and we dont like to see a bill that excessive at the end of an average meal.
Jason
Perfect family dinner. Came with family this evening at 6pm. Got an early bird special of an entree, a main course and a glass of wine for $49. Good deal : ) The four of us each tried a different combination. Presentation of each and every dish was impeccable. The soft shell crab was the best I've ever had. Seafood was fantastic throughout and the risotto had no match anywhere else. Ambience was warm and cozy, with excellent service that came with a family-like friendliness.

Service wasnt great. Went here on a recommendation from a friend. It was my Birthday and was looking for something nice. I did like the food but would avoid if you are a vegetarian and the choices are lacking. Hard hard is it to put at least one interesting vegetarian option on the menu. Desserts choices were boring and the service from the service was very disappointing, staff either ignored us or were just rude. Wont be back anytime soon.
Suzie Bentley
Quality over quantity. Had one of the best steaks ever at Estivo the other night however in our party of 8 almost everyone left feeling hungry. The quality is there but it simply wasn't enough food - especially for the price<br/><br/>Macca's on the way home anyone?
ChunkyChicken
Quaint and satisfying. I dined here with my husband on thursday night ( 30/5/13) for a quick dinner as we have recently moved into kew<br/>The restaurant is quaint and cosy - the menu is very appetizing and the staff are very friendly and attentive. <br/>We had the soft shell crab to start, the fish of the day special and the chocolate fondant to finish. All the dishes were great with special mention to the fondant - perfection!<br/>We will definitely be back

Not the same. There ought to be a law that says restaurants have to change names when they change owners. Likewise, restaurant review sites like Urbanspoon should treat them as new.<br/><br/>We've had numerous delightful dining experiences at Estivo in the past. Food and service were always top notch. But we noticed on our last visit that the front of house staff had changed and we suspected that Estivo had new management. The staff confirmed it when we asked.<br/><br/>Unfortunately new ownership has brought the quality of both the food and service down. My porcini risotto entree was favourless and the beef fillet main, while the beef was good, was on a bed of mash that was advertised on the menu as rosti. My companions' dishes were similarly lacking.<br/><br/>We won't be going back.
Gourmet Girl
Very disappointing experience. Just dined out here and disappointed by quantity of food and price of wines. Extremely overpriced! Angus beef was very enjoyable but surely some vegetables could be served for the price charged. Pleasant service but disappointed that restaurant didn't honour Entertainment Book offer advertised because it had changed hands. Not my problem. I suggest you honour the agreement advertised. Will not be recommending or returning
Avm
Was quite disappointed to order the Angus beef 'well done' only to receive it medium rare..to rare! The waiter politely offered to get me another one, however I was horrified when she returned with a steak a quarter of the size!! Not impressed - given the hefty bill we paid!

Lunch or Dinner. Fast becoming one of my favourite restaurants. Good food, excellent ambiance & service with a terrific selection of wines.

Absolutely Famished. Eight of us had a best dinner at estivo last night , I had scallop as a Entree which was cook to perfection and well presented , Barramundi for mains , and Panna Cotta for dessert , everything is to die for. Amazing service, staff is so friendly and profession , No wonder why it was so busy on Wednesday night . Thanks Estivo for a"' WONDERFUL NIGHT" Definitely coming back .

Amazing experience!!. Went here with three of my friends on saturday night, fantastic dining exp it was. Very friendly and professional staff who provided excellent customer service. The wine list is brilliant and food is unbelievably delicious!!!

Amazing food , Great wine, friendly staff. Definitely coming back .

Old fav that no longer hits the mark. Estivo is an old fav of mine and I have gone there for years but recent experiences have been poor. Let me start by saying the kitchen has still got it and the food is as good as ever. Sadly it is let down by the service. It is hard to see evidence of anyone actually managing the place. The wine list has become a debacle and the service staggers from amateur to very rude. Sad to see an excellent place heading the wrong way and the empty tables at a recent visit would suggest others are having the same experience.
Shaila
Disgruntled and disgusted. My friends and I, eight of us, had a terrible experience at Estivo. Firstly, the manager was terribly rude. He insisted we did not have a booking when I had talked to him four times over four weeks to confirm the numbers. He told my friends who had come earlier, that they would have to pay $30 if all eight of us did not come.<br/>Secondly, the waitress refused to give us more bread when requested. We could see they had more bread in the upstairs kitchen.<br/>When the food came the helpings were not enough especially for the vegetarians. I had been told by the manager when I booked that the vegetarians would have a choice of three things, on the day there was only risotto on the menu. Never going there again.

Quality verses quantity. We enjoyed one of best dinner in Estivo last night. Scallops cooked to perfection, juicy and nice presentation like Master Chef dishes. Portion was small but just right to eat. The calamri in barramundi dish was to die for, I could taste sea flavour. My husband had steak which was one of the best steak he had, so tender to melt in his mouth, the accomplishment on the dish matched so well. We shared a Tiramisu trifle dessert with fruit and crostoli, fruit was half bannana, a bit disappointed. The colour of the dish is a bit dull. I expected seasonal fruit like strawberries. All in all, the food was sophisticated, flavous were great, service was attentive. A fantastic dinning experience.

Great service, fantastic duck.

Really like this restaurant great food and wine. It is expensive but well worth the money.

Underwhelming flavours. This place has been on my list of places to try for a while now and I left disappointed (and still hungry).<br/><br/>We were served bread with oil/balsamic at the beginning of the meal (which is always a good start). The bread was reasonable.<br/><br/>My dining partner had the twice baked pork belly for entree (I skipped). He said it was pretty tasty. I noticed it was swimming in a fair amount of a thin brown liquid.<br/><br/>For main he had the snapper and I had the braised veal with chickpeas & roasted parsnip mash. We ordered the roast potatoes on the side. Both our mains were served in wide bowls and were sitting in watery brown sauce. Mine was limp in flavour but did have a stickiness to it that I've come to expect. The veal was nicely cooked, if not particularly flavoursome. For roasted parsnip, the mash was severely lacking in the flavour side and the chickpeas did not help matters. <br/>The roast potato side was a highlight - which probably isn't a good sign.<br/><br/>I decided to try the chocolate fondant for dessert, it came with a small scoop of clotted cream and a tiny mound of blueberry compote (about five). It was quite tasty, with a satisfyingly gooey inside contained by nicely cooked exterior.<br/><br/>On a side note, when mains are served in bowls and with lots of sauce, side-dishes are more difficult to consume (if one transfers some of them to the main plate they just get wet).<br/><br/>I was asked twice during the meal and then again at the end how it was, so I told them what I thought of the main. The restaurant comped the side dish and also offered coffee/spirits as a way of making up for my comments on the food; we didn't take them up on the drinks.<br/><br/>Overall, I could not recommend the restaurant on the strength of their food, but they at least tried to make up for it.
Lyn
3 course meal for two, 1 alcoholic drink 2 soft drinks. Free bread start. $190. Food nicely presented (think masterchef) but don't expect to feel full. Chef needs to learn about seasoning and flavour. Sous chef needs to remove supermarket labels from quarter lemon slice trim on a $28 entree! Also check salad for sharp pieces of bamboo! When pointed out 'sorry about that' isn't suffice. I had to request salad not be charged - they said ok.. But waiter should not ask for a gratuity, embarrassing
Unforkettable
Excellent!. We managed to get a table on a busy Saturday night. thoughtful service, nice venue. we started off with entree of oysters, scallops and seafood tapas, they were all very good - especially the oysters with that wonderful texture-play and thankfully not overcooked. the pairing of candied pancetta with moreton bay bug in the seafood tapas was also delightful. for mains i had the famed Estivo duck. beware of disappointment if you are looking for crispy duck skin, as Estivo's roasted magret skin is slightly on the chewy side (fats has yet to render) and can be a little disheartening. however the sweet duck leg and onion tart is an instant perk-me-up. i just wish that the duck breast had a tad more seasoning, and of course, crispy skin.<br/><br/>overall, it was a fantastic experience. would come here again for the duck or a celebration!

Lunch time delight. I booked her for a lunch with my husband for his birthday and I did my research and this restaurant had some expectations to live up to as it had been rated so well and yes it delivered. The food was unreal, I had 3 courses with wine and each meal delivered... the panacotta was the highlight. The service was excellent and personal. The decor and feel of was comfortable and homely while feeling contemporary. I will be back!

Surprise gem in the burbs. We were very impressed with Estivo from the second we were about to enter the restaurant (one of the waiters saw us walking towards the door and quickly opened it for us) until the moment we left. The service was impeccable and we couldn't resist giving them a generous tip. All the waiters were friendly without overdoing it, and not pretentious at all. The dining room was cosy but warm and friendly. Most importantly, the food was fabulous. Compliments to the chef for the timely arrival of our food - it was full house but we didn't have to wait long at all for food to be served. I had the soft shell crab (a rarity in non-Asian restaurants) which was done very artistically with great fusion of western flavours. For main, I had the duck breast which was mouth watering and my husband had the salmon dish of the day...both dishes were done medium rare to near perfection. For a suburban restaurant, we were both very impressed with the quality. The only minor criticism is the lingering smell of grease from the kitchen that can be smelled from the dining room. Will definitely be back.

Wonderful warm welcome when I arrived at Estivo. I was taken upstairs and away from the heart of the place downstairs. Service was efficient and good to start with. Drinks served promptly along. All agreed our first courses were great (scallops, tuna medley and carpaccio). My dinner companions noted that the waitress was a smoker and needed a breath mint. It was also unfortunate that they ran out of diet Coke for my non-drinking companion. My companions and I thought at this level a quick dash to the local supermarket or servo by a staff member would not have been completely out of order but alas no. Mains were good. My lamb was tasty and the beans good. The others were happy enough. The wait for the dessert menu was too long. The Creme caramel was divine and the pannacotta was pretty good. The service was the let down of evening. Technically the waitress was great but lacked charm and finesse. I hope to be back as it a great local for me but next time I want to be downstairs where the waiters ooze warmth and humour and Estivo buzzes.
Fat_kid
Local gem. Very intimate and romantic place. Found the service to be perfect and the food was just amazing!not something I would have expected to find in kew....but so glad I did!

Lovely. The staff were very friendly, we ordered the barramundi and scallops served in this delicious broth and it was light and a beautiful meal. My sister had the steak which was served instead of the veal for that night and it was tender and cooked well. A bit too expensive for my liking but I left feeling very satisfied :)

This place is to die for. Its something special, delicious food, great service, friendly staff. A special cosy place to dine, so many dishes to choose from, i will have to go back again and again to try them all, such a hard choice deciding what to get :)

I went to this restaurant on Saturday night & the food is amazing, especially the honey panacotta. The service was fantastic as well.

Weekday lunch a treat!. We really enjoyed our weekday lunch here. The food is beautiful and worth the price for the quality and flavour. Service is friendly and attentive.
Martin C
Job well done. I went here for dinner as part if a large group which is always a test for any place. Not surprisingly there was a reasonably long delay in courses coming to the table but otherwise this was a quality dining experience. The food was very good, the service was attentive and the ambience warm.

Simply Fabulous. Lunch , Friday August 5 2011<br/>3 of us - lunchtime diners - the welcome, service, food and wine were all above expectation. Rather oddly titled "cassoulet" of squid (presumably because there were a few beans involved) with squid ink & squid was superbly flavored and the micro herbs lent visual, textural and taste balance. The artichoke soup with a generous coin of cotechino and micro greens also great. The soft shell crab, not one of my favorite things & I didn't taste was given 100% from our guest. The wagyu carpaccio looked splendid & overall was. We'd read a few Urban Spoon reviews - some recent ones quite negative. Can't understand that - a fine place indeed and we'll be back for sure.

Smashing!. Great service, beautiful tasty food... Worth every cent

Why would they destroy a working formula.... Changed menu was not good.<br/><br/>New veal was small in portions, which is not the biggest issue. Biggest issue was it was nothing compared to what it iwas - it was simply put, bland. Money is not an issue. I'd rather they charged double the price and bring back the old veal.<br/><br/>And why was the chocolate creme brulee cancelled in exchange for the worst chocolate fondant I've had (the chocolate doesn't even melt/come out)?<br/><br/>Extremely disappointed
Ahelmil
So disappointed. Went to Estivo based on it's fine dining reputation. The website says it's BYO, but it's not, so added wine to the expected spend. It's was busy but the waiters seemed careless and mumbled the specials. As we did not have a starter, the main course would be 20 minutes, did we mind? Not really - however it took 45 mins for the main to arrive; and it was very nice but very slap dash service, and the fact that our $60 bottle of wine was not left with us, meant we were at the waiters mercy for refills. Overall good food did not make up for thirst and poor service. In the Entertainment book. 2/5 redeemed by food quality.
Kerry Moore
Hungry? Don't go here. Lovely atmosphere didn't make up for small main meal size (and if you pay $36 for it you want it to at least touch the sides) or the fact that we had to wait over 45 minutes to be given the menus. Not worth it!
Pork Belly
Great duck. It is great to have a suburban restaurant that serves great food with great ambience. The duck is a fabulous dish, melts in your mouth. I could have double servings.

Great Restaurant. Were there last night for dinner. Food was sensational we will be going back and you should it for your next night out
GPS Joe
Magnificent. A real gem. Duck was sublime. Probably my best duck meal ever. Service started out a bit ordinary but improved as the evening progressed. Eel and oyster starters were delish and the panna cotta is probably as good as anywhere. A true pleasure to eat here.

The Perfect Duck. My wife and I both ordered the duck for dinner, and it was perfect - I don't use that word lightly, it simply couldn't have been done any better. My only disappointment is that I couldn't lick the plate afterwards! The Chocolate Creme Brulee was a nice follow-up for dessert. The service was friendly and the atmosphere quite casual for this type of dining.

A good suburban restaurant. We enjoyed the food and the ambiance here. The menu was selective and if anything tried to cater for all tastes. We thought the quality and presentation to be above average. An extensive wine list, reasonably priced. The service was quite professional. We shall return.
Bon Sapor Food
Haven't been for a few years but. Every time i've gone to Estivo I have loved the food and service. Food is great and up to the fine dining prices. Will be back soon I hope!
Andy
Dined at estivo last Saturday night and thoroughly enjoyed it. I wouldn't say go if you're vegetarian, but if your a lover of everything else you'll enjoy estivo. Plus a good wine list, attentive service and nice ambience make it a winner!
Nat
Great resteraunt, great food, great service. Will definatly be coming back. Delightful
Frontier
No vegetarian dishes on menu. White tablecloths, tealight candles, attentive wait staff, it had all the makings for a romantic dinner. Unfortunately Estivo had not a single vegetarian entree or main dish on their menu (only a couple of tapas and sides were meat or fish free). Ridiculous! I sat through the waiter listing several meat or fish specials before I asked what they had for vegetarians. I was told that any of the dishes on the menu could be altered or the chef could make up something else. The dishes on the menu were so meat or fish centric that if I had them altered, I'd be left with what effectively is just a side dish as my main course. Yes, it sounds nice that the chef will cook me whatever I want but isn't that what a menu is for? I don't go to a restaurant to make up my own meals, that's what I'm paying the chef to do.
Simone
I found the menu limited and the place overall very pretentious. There are much better restaurants around that charge less for much more.

My goodness what a delight. What more to say. Have Been twice & can't wait to go back. Fresh, beautiful flavour combinations dancing off my tongue with a romantic atmosphere.
