I go here at least once a week for either breakfast or dinner. Hands down best food, and the chilli jam is a must
Amazing food, great service and the best atmosphere! Would highly recommend !
Excellent service and amazing food. Loved the chili eggs with feta cheese. The brownie is really really really nice. I cannot recommend this cute place highly enough - 5 Stars
On first impressions of this new cafe was its trendy polished concrete floors and cool music with an up beat tempo.
Service was friendly, accommodating and quick. The breakfast burger was cooked to perfection. Coffees were smooth. We will be coming back.
Awe really enjoyed our first visit to Dawson’s. Went for dinner and we were impressed with good atmosphere, friendly service, good menu choices and tasty food all round. The prices are reasonable and everything we tried was well presented and full of flavour. From pizza to grilled octopus, we enjoyed the mix of cuisine on offer.
Great food. Good service tap beer goes down a treat with the grilled saganaki.
Very impressed with great value-for-money menu, and the pleasant and helpful staff. Coffee was excellent; will be returning for some morning caffeine hits for sure.
Amazing food and the best service! Will definitely be returning
New restaurant. Went there for lunch. Amazing food & service! Loved the chicken & chorizo paella!
Everything is always fabulous!! Staff, food and beverages always exceed expectations!
New restaurant in Kew with a great range of brunch and main options, good coffee, and friendly service
Awesome food and excellent staff, would totally come back!
Molly, was an absolute delight! Thank you so much for a wonderful evening.
Food was delicious - especially the woodfired pizza. Service was very friendly and even though they forgot the French fries we ordered, they still ended up bringing them and then didn't charge us for them. Great attitude from all the staff. Highly recommended.
Real rating 4.75 ⭐️
We had visited Dawson for brunch and here’s what we had!
Miso glazed king salmon - served with soba noodles, edamame, beans, broccolini, spring onion, bean shoots, coriander, mint, soy and sesame dressing! What made this interesting was how well marinated the salmon and noodles were! You could taste the natural flavors with the other elements of the dish.
Ruby chocolate sphere - ruby mousse, raspberry and rose water, ruby glaze... you get the idea! This was the highlight of my day as the ruby mousse was so smooth and the addition of the other elements just sweetened me up! It was also fun to crack up the sphere to see the sweet surprise inside!
Buttermilk hotcake - served with blueberry jam, poached baby pears, lemon curd and blueberry double cream! First and foremost, the hotcake was absolutely thick and fluffy and moist! This was a delight for me as the sweetness of the hotcake complemented the sourness of the blueberry jam! So much action happening in my mouth!
We were pretty pleased with our experience at Dawson and would definitely visit again!
I went with my mum and I had the chicken taco and chocolate milkshake, both perfect, can’t wait to go back.
The food here is lovely, we had arancini, saganaki, popcorn chicken and a pizza, which was all delicious!! Service was excellent and the restaurant had a great atmosphere. We would definitely come back
I had been wanting to try this place for ages, my son and I were driving past and we found a parking spot right out the front.
We ordered the Arancini, pork belly salad, chicken tacos.
The pork belly salad was perfection, and my son loved the chicken tacos. I took one point off for the arancini, they were nice and beautifully presented, but there was a bitter after taste.
Overall this venue certainly lives up to the hype, I would definitely recommend it, and I would come back to try more of the dishes.
The tasting plate was very generous and yummy. The main, we had seafood paella, very delicious. The desserts were so good to finish off our dinner. Will be going back for more.
Would recommend the mushroom French toast. Mushrooms were caramelised really well and paired nicely with the buttery French toast. Would have liked more cheese on top to add a little more saltiness and the cream to have a stronger mushroom umami flavour.
Great place Great service and chefs good job food was amazing coming back for more 👍👍👍
Perfect place for brunch, lunch or dinner. Will be back again to try more of the menu.
Food: standout were the Mac and cheese croquettes.
Service: excellent. Food reached us promptly
After seeing this dessert all over my Instagram I had to go and try it for myself. I absolutely loved it and the inside of the dome has the perfect balance of flavors. There's room for a pouring sauce to add an extra element and a little theatrics to the dish.
However it's perfect without it also.
The pizza was also tasty and the crust just the way I like it
First timers to this restaurant in Kew. Chilly week night but it was nice and warm inside. He had pizza and said it was good. We shared a seafood paella. Wine by the glass also good selection. Reasonable prices for Kew! The three of us ate for $70. Will be back. It’s a little noisy with all the hard surfaces. There seemed to be big groups enjoying themselves a lot!
Nice place for friends’ catch up, fantastic food.
Great local cafe/restaurant in Kew with delicious food!
We came on a Thursday noon, the restaurant was fairly quiet which allowed us to have a great chat while enjoying the amazing food.
Buttermilk Hotcakes tasted really good with the blueberry jam and poached baby pears - a little different from hotcakes that other cafes usually make (chocolate/raspberry) which we enjoyed. The hotcakes had the right amount of sweetness and great texture (not too thick or thin). Definitely recommend this dish.
Dawson Benny was also very well made. A great breakfast option!
For beverages, we ordered Iced Coffee and soy matcha latte. Nothing out of the ordinary but they were good!
Overall a pleasant experience as we loved the atmosphere. Staff was friendly.
Went here when we were staying out of our local area. Was delicious. Would go out of my way to get that Eggs Benedict again. Fantastic service too. Will come back!

🍄 Mushroom French Toast $20.0
🌿 Vegetarian Option!
.
I'm in love with this place! 👏🏼 If you haven't been to @dawsonkew then you're honestly missing out 🤤 they are the real deal in my opinion! Not only are they open all day and run amazing breakfast and lunch menus, but the food is quite frankly phenomenal! Great big space for functions and events and an overall good vibe ⭐ I've been so blessed to have visited some amazing cafes lately! This is one of them, but this dish has topped the list for me in 2019! 👌🏽Are you ready? 😉
.
✔️ 10/10! SIMPLY AMAZING! 😍
.
Who would have thought that my favourite breakfast dish of 2019 would be a vegetarian option? 😅 Farout! This caught me by complete surprise! 😯 Even an anti-truffle eater @kinben_na_deshi, was blown away by how good this dish actually was! 😉Savoury French toast served with Sauteed seasonal mushrooms, whipped black truffle goats cheese 🤤 *takes a second to reminisce*, Roasted hazelnut, sunny fried egg, watercress and manchengo cheese! 🧀 The flavours, textures and balance of this dish is absolutely ridiculous!👌🏽 The French toast and the mushrooms serve as the base to this dish, the hero is easily the whipped truffle goats cheese! The amount of flavour this brings to the dish is amazing! ⭐ Finished with the sunny egg that combines all these delicious ingredients together, it is PURE GENIUS! 😎 WELL DONE @dawsonkew! WELL DONE! 👏🏼
.
💵 VFM - EXCEPTIONAL! Quality ingredients, generous portion and absolutely delicious for a 20? 😯 Sign me up! 😉

💡TIP - Even if you're not a truffle lover just try it, the subtlety of the truffle in the dish is so well balanced that you will become a truffle lover 👌🏽

I came with the intention of having the hotcakes, but being after 3:30pm they were unavailable. So I changed tact and went for the capriccioso pizza and shoestring fries. For $15 this pizza is very good value, nice toppings, good base, not the best pizza I’ve ever had, but it was very good nonetheless. Shoestring fries are shoestring fries, but serve is very generous if you’re hungry. Finished off with the mandarin cheesecake, my initial impression was that it was a little on the small side, but I have to say it was just right. Not too sweet, nice crumb base, loved the smoked almonds and mandarin variations; for $13 I give it a big tick. For something relaxed and local, I say yes to this place.
I really enjoyed my visit to Dawson.
A friend and I got the Mac & Cheese Croquettes as an entree to start with and they were delicious! The size of the croquettes exceeded my expectation too.
For my main I got the Slow Roasted Lamb Shoulder - it was cooked perfectly and came apart very easily. The grain salad was really good and the labneh and lemon topped it off beautifully.
My friend got the Hotcake and was very happy with the meal. I sampled the blueberry double cream and it was so good.
Service was fantastic - staff were attentive and friendly. The venue itself is also really inviting. It is a great venue for breakfast, lunch or dinner and would also have a good vibe for a date night.
I've been to Dawson a number of times now and it never fails to impress. There are so many delicious breakfast and dinner options, my favourite so far has been the seafood paella. The staff are always friendly and polite, and have been happy to suggest what's good on the menu. We most recently came back specifically for the ruby sphere, which I can't recommend enough. Will be coming back again (and again, and again)!
Dawson is one of our go-to’s for family events because of its size. They can easily accomodate large groups and the varied all day menu always has something for everyone. The food is top quality and really treads the line between casual and fine dining in many dishes. The menu changes often so don’t be disappointed if your favourite has vanished as it can often be reborn a few months later with a couple of adjustments. The melt in the mouth pork belly perfected those Asian flavours but they also do a mouthwatering paella and a mean fish and chips too. If you’ve got fussy eaters in your family like we do Dawson will definitely do something they’ll like
Located in central of Kew junction. Modern decor and atmosphere. Love the Menu. Politely waiter/waitress. Late lunch yesterday had this: Savoury mushroom French toast; sticky pork belly; lamb ribs. Insanely delicious! Crunchy but mouth melted Porkbelly ....en still endlessness! Definitely will be back for the wooden fire pizza especially in this winter season. Recommended for weekend brunch family friends dinners spot.
Went out to dinner her on a Friday night. We ordered the chicken tacos, lamb ribs, salami pizza and mandarin cheesecake. Everything was tasty and the prices were very reasonable. Service was great all night and they were super attentive.
Dawson is nailing their brunch menu and upping Kew’s cafe game! Loved these two dishes—Smashed Avo 🥑 with Meredith goats cheese (only the best), beetroot hummus, dukkah, pistachio and zucchini ribbons, and the Mushroom French Toast 🍄 with truffle goats cheese, manchego and egg 👌🏼 The staff were also friendly and attentive, even though it was super busy. I rate this place one of new favourite locals!
We loved the meals at Dawson!! The sticky ribs and Szechuan Calamari salad was full of flavour and was cooked beautifully. The meat was tender and fell off the bone and the calamari was not chewy and simply melted in your mouth. The pizza was also great with fresh pineapple and shaved ham from the deli. We wanted to ruby dome but they ran out and so we tried the mandarin cheesecake which was really lovely! Yum yum yum 😊
Dawson is a lovely, family friendly restaurant with lots of interesting dishes on the menu. They have a good variety and it can get pretty busy, but I would advise anyone looking for a good night out with good food to go to Dawson.
It’s at the quieter end of the kew junction which meant parking was easy. I initially worried it would be too noisy for friends catch ups, but the noise level was manageable. There’s an area up the stairs that would be perfect for group gatherings. Could fit a few big tables and away from the rest of the patrons.
Service was friendly and regular. A lot of staff on the floor. We had pizzas, burgers and paella. The pizzas were good, especially for only $15. Waygu burger was apparently delicious. Note: burgers don’t come with chips. Need to order separately. Seafood Paella wasn’t the best but was very big, plenty for 2.
Overall experience was pleasant
Being here for brunch in a nice morning. Food and plate decoration was awesome. Price was reasonable for such high quality of food. Staff were helpful and nice. Highly recommend!!!
I ordered the coconut sago with passion fruit and lime - really delicious. They had a few vegan option as as well as gluten free vegan options. I would go again.
Amazing place breakfast was amazing 10/10 coffee A 1 best coffee I ever had look at the menu amazing food I'm coming back again try out more amazing food 😁😁
Yummy food and friendly service, outstandingly delicious. Good brunch place for either business meal or group gathering. Healthy choice and creative menu
Had the lamb shoulder and the cheesecake dessert. It was great: beautiful flavours as well as presentation. Staff very friendly. Excellent. Looking forward to going back again (and again and again... :-)
Thank you!
It’s finally the weekend and what better way to celebrate it with a BOTTOMLESS BRUNCH for just $60! All the dishes and cocktails were amazing here and beautifully presented so I highly recommend for an amazing brunch feed! Their sticky date hotcakes is the best in town, sago pudding was incredible and basically everything we’ve tried! The staff were so friendly which is lovely :) one of my fav cafe in Melbourne!
Thanks so much for having us
I had high expectations for Dawson and they exceeded it. It’s so hard to pick a favourite dish when there are so many gems on the menu. The cocktails, staff and ambience are all equally great, will definitely be back for brunch or dinner.
We came here last weekend and got the big breakfast which came in a huge portion and was delicious. We also got the chicken paella which was average. The fish taco was delicious but was a bit expensive. Overall we still enjoyed the meal!
Bottomless brunch with flare! Dawson crew put on quite the spread for our not-so-tame table of foodies! We loved all the dishes but the stand outs were easily the sticky date pancakes & coconut sago.
The cocktails were ultra incredible and appreciated the theatrics that came with. Special mention to the desserts, they are well and truly some of the best in Melbourne. Ruby red sphere ftw. 😍😍
Had a wonderful brunch experience at Dawson. All the staff were lovely and nice, great atmosphere. The food not only looks good but also tasted yum!
We had Savoury mushroom french toast, Sticky date hotcake, Breakfast bowl, Sticky pork belly salad, Coconut Sago, Ruby chocolate sphere, Mandarin cheesecake.
The sticky date hotcake was so good, my ultimate favourite out of all the food we had that day. And probably one of the best hotcakes I’ve eaten so far! Highly recommended anyone to try it, you will literally fall in love!

We were invited last weekend with a group of foodie friends. The interior is quite large and split level with seating out on the street too, so it was quite easy to find a suitable table for any sized group.
The menu has a great range of brekkie and lunch dishes - including the Melbourne Brunch Staples that you'd expect to find plus a bunch of creative dishes displaying their own flare and creativity. I love that Dawson also specialise in fabulous desserts (I think we tried them all...) - we particularly loved the Ruby Chocolate Sphere - nestled in a bed of pink fairy floss, you crack open the chocolate to reveal a delightful ruby mousse - heaven!
We ordered a lot of dishes and shared them around, plus a few of their delicious cocktails and LOTS of coffee (of course)! The food was quite quick to come out and everything was really yummy and beautifully presented - perfect for the gram :) You could tell that the ingredients were fresh and of high quality.
The coffee is really good too, and they have a selection of milk alternatives.
I also need to mention that they do an express lunch with either a burger or pizza, plus a glass of wine or beer for only $20.
We've been to Dawson on several occassions and it's one of our favourite cafes. Looking foward to heading back again soon.
We came here on a hot summers day, and the restaurant was well aircon’d that you instantly felt relaxed and cooler! The food here is outstanding, and top quality in my opinion. We enjoyed the tasting platter, it was fresh and full of yummy tapas tasters. The calamari was cooked perfectly, and lightly battered. The arancini balls were super tasty, with truffle and cheese! The pizza was fire cooked, and super fresh prosciutto on top. The Mac and Cheese croquettes, you just can’t go past these! Recommend them highly! Then the chicken tacos, so full of flavour and not too heavy! Overall, highly recommend this place for a well priced and delicious menu + lovely dining experience!
Delicious breakfast dishes with great coffee to match. I love the coconut sago in particular. It tastes different from other cafes and the puffed wild rice is a wonderful addition to the plate. Perfect balance in flavours too.
On the other hand, the sourdough toast for the smashed avo was burnt around the edges which made it a tad less enjoyable to eat. But everything else on the plate was nice.
Anyway, I thought the food presentation was visually appealing and the portion sizes were decent.
Overall, I like this place I would come back for the coconut sago or to try something else on the menu.
Dawson is easily one of the most instagrammable cafes in Melbourne - I even have photographic proof 😉 Even a dish as seemingly unassuming as the tried-and-true brownie tasted and looked like it came straight from dessert heaven! Pair your beautiful desserts with a cocktail for the perfect meal! There is even a huge event space at the top with incredible lighting perfect for any event! Thanks again Dawson 💖
Walking into Dawson, the venue is huge! There was a place sectioned off where we sat that would be perfect for birthdays and events too. What can I say, the food here was impeccable and beautiful too. Every dish was played immaculately! Thanks Dawson team!
Been to Dawson for the first time last weekend and I must admit that I was quite impressed with the whole experience and of course, their food and drinks on offer.
They have a decent range of savoury and sweet dishes, a comprehensive range of both sides to say the least.
Here are my highlights that left lasting impressions:
Sticky Pork Belly. Perfectly cooked pork belly chunks that were crispy on the crackles as they should, moist and tasty on the meat parts. Yumm! If there is anything I could suggest to improve, perhaps it would be great to have a little more dressing sauce of some sort into the salad mix - to bridge the delicious pork belly pieces and the salad that goes with it. Just my taste buds though, everyone’s taste buds may vary.
Savoury Mushroom French Toast. Simply delish. Great combination of flavours. The whipped black truffle goat’s cheese really put this dish together beautifully.
Sticky date Hot Cakes. Deliciously moist hot cakes (a.k.a. Pancakes ;)) worked well with its sticky sauce and other goodies. Just yumm.
If you love sweets and love rose water flavour, you would absolutely love their Ruby Chocolate Sphere! I love anything with rose water flavour, so I felt like home with this sweet dish. And the fun of cracking the sphere? Priceless!
For those who love sweets but perhaps a lighter options (less sweet), their Coconut Sago with mango would be your perfect choice.
Mandarin cheese cake. This dish is an absolute beauty to view as well as to eat it. Great combination of different textures and flavours. Absolutely loved it.
They also have a good variety of pretty and exciting cocktails to choose from!
Ambiance was great, spacious space and balanced lighting.
Staffs were really friendly and helpful.
Easily become one of my local favourite. Can’t wait to return.
From the minute we walked into their modern, hip, well lit space, to the moment we left, the whole experience was pretty much flawless. The decor is perfect, music not too loud, and even with other patrons there, you can still hear the people in your party talk without having to shout.
Staff were attentive right away. They offered water within a minute of sitting down and they were all very friendly. They gave us enough time to look over their varied menu and took the orders - some with modifications - and got everything right (yes, this obviously should be a no brainer, but even something this simple is not always achievable in some places).
We wanted to try a few of the entrees, so amongst us, we got the delicious Karaage Popcorn Chicken, Wild Mushroom and Leek Arancini and the Mac N Cheese Croquettes. Each of them were so good. Really delicious and came with gorgeous dipping sauces. Presentation was on point and we didn't have to wait long for them to arrive.
For the main, I ordered the Wagyu Beef Burger and I must say it was absolutely perfectly cooked and tasted great. My only minor complaint is that I don't like sweet bread buns with a savoury burger, so it would be great if there were perhaps two options. Everyone's meal came out correctly and reasonably promptly and we all enjoyed.
Now usually, that would be enough to eat, however, even their menu says "Save Room" when it comes to the dessert portion choices. We did what we were told and saved room for what can be only described as one of the most beautiful and unique desserts I've ever had. I had a gorgeous Ruby Chocolate Sphere with middle eastern pashmak (cotton candy/fairy floss). It had a stunning Turkish Delight flavour throughout and even the chocolate sphere shell was beautiful. You MUST save room for dessert when coming here because they all looked (and tasted) incredible and something more unique than other restaurants offer.
While I haven't eaten breakfast here, I do want to, and not only because dinner was such a good experience, but because their menu looks different to so many other restaurants/cafes around Melbourne. In a city with so many copycat menus, I must say the food here is a bit more varied, and definitely, definitely delicious and worth a try for sure.
Had a very pleasant lunch here. We were initially overwhelmed by the menu, but were very happy with our choices of the croquettes and the paella, both of which were very flavourful. Decor and service were commendable too.
Breakfast was amazing, had the smashed avo and the coconut sago - probably best breakfast I’ve had in Kew. Friendly staff and good coffee as well
Been here a few times and the menu is so good you just want to eat everything. I ended up getting the wagyu burger but without the bun, the waitress was so lovely she suggest lettuce cups which I agreed to. The meat was so tender and juicy, the flavours were great, will definitely be back.
Accomodating and friendly staff combined with a great atmosphere and location makes Dawson one of the best restaurants in Kew. They happily accomodate to dietary requirements, and with vegan cheese for pizza as well as plenty of vegan options, dining here is extremely easy. Would definitely come again!!
I booked Dawson for a celebratory lunch with friends, and it was the perfect choice! The cafe was lovely and spacious, great for any occasion. The staff were all incredibly friendly which was a massive positive too. All of my friends were impressed with the presentation of our meals! We ordered a bowl of fries to share, and the herb aioli was a big hit. For my own meal, I ordered the savory French toast which I’d recommend. The combo of everything was delicious, and I especially loved the strong truffle flavour. Would highly recommend this cafe in kew!
Came to Dawson for the first time last week and loved it! The most surprising thing was how cheap everything was for such high quality, delicious food. With so many delicious options we decided to split the beef burger and lamb sticky ribs (on special) - both were amazing. Would definitely recommend this place to all my friends and family - lovely atmosphere, service and incredible food! Can’t wait to be back :) :)
Dropped into Dawson for a quick lucnch and was super impressed. The venue looks likes it's been recently fitted out and had a good food menu to match. I ordered the lamb which was super tasty, can't wait to come back and try their pizzas.
Note that thefo0die.com rating is a 4.5 but in Zomato's rating system, it is closer to a 5.
Fo0die dined as a guest of Dawson and as such, the rating does not give any consideration to customer service.
Opened since October 2017, we’ve had Dawson on our list to visit after seeing their geometric shaped matcha panna cotta appearing on our Instagram feed. An interesting fact we found out on the day was that the venue was previously a white goods shop called Dawsons. Which is where the current venue name comes from as it was nostalgic for the local community.
Beautiful busy restaurant in kew, delicious meal, especially the lamb shoulder. Dessert was very nice, i cant wait to come back. value for money. Very friendly staff. Highly recommend!

Dawson is such a great place for brunch. It is a beautiful large cafe with lots of food to choose from.
We had the paella, which was perfectly cooked. It was tasty and crunch at the bottom of the pan. We also had the matcha panna cotta, which was one of the best panna cottas in Melbourne. It wasn't too sweet and the fruit the came with it really complimented each other.
Their chai tea and coffee were good too we really enjoyed it.
Yummy food, spacious and pleasant decor and attentive friendly service at very reasonable prices. The staff were very accommodating to my 1.5 yo at dinner. We’ll definitely be coming to this child-friendly cafe more often!
Popped in for an early dinner this evening and we were absolutely delighted with the food but, more importantly, the service was extremely professional and friendly. We all ordered pizza’s which were fresh and perfectly cooked and the coffee was also first rate. A special mention to Andre who looked after us impeccably. One of our youngsters knocked her drink over and Andre was quick to clean it up and reassured us it wasn’t an issue. Some waiters/managers aren’t so kind! Andre was attentive and extremely good at what he does and is a huge asset to the business. We will definitely return as it will be our new ‘go too’ for our family outings. Give it a go....
Thought this place was fancy and all I was craving was a burger. So I was pleasantly surprised to see three burger options on the menu, along with pizzas, lamb shoulder and even a pork belly salad! I got the southern fried chicken burger which was out of this world! Crunchy and juicy!
I was so impressed with everything at Dawson. As you walk in, it’s big and expansive but welcoming as well. With natural light filling the room. The coffee was rich and delicious and my friend had a hot chocolate and loved it.
The meals were the standout, with each dish being crafted so well.
The big breakfast was just that, big! And hit all the spots. Hash browns, mushrooms, smashed avo, salsa, eggs your way, bacon and toast. A real crowd pleaser.
The smashed avo was nicely done, with feta adding a nice touch. I love that it was also served on pumpkin sourdough (one of my fave things!).
Finally the Dawson Benedict was presented beautifully and a little different touch on the standard Benny. It can on smoked salmon and with a herbed hollandaise which made it extra special.
We loved our brunch experience. We’ll have to pop back in for lunch or dinner I think, the pizzas being brought out around us looked amazing.
Thanks guys!
Popped by for a quick lunch while on a book week shopping expedition. What a great find, it’s a shame we don’t live closer but we’d definitely be back if out Kew way. A range of fantastic starters including the croquettes, chicken tacos ( some of the best we’ve had ) and a wonderful calamari salad with a stunning dressing. Plenty of food and a beautiful quality.
Excellent service and ambience. Both plating and food taste was on point. Great variety of food choices as well, both savoury and sweet. Great job guys! Would come back again.
#dessert #brunch #cafe #kew
Had the most delicious brunch today at Dawson. We had the Breakfast Bowl, Savoury Mushroom French Toast and the Black Forest Waffles which were as DELICIOUS as they sound. The service was super friendly and the coffee was great. So glad that this gem is in my neighbourhood! Highly recommend :)
Loved the miso glazed salmon and sticky pork belly! Both fresh and flavoursome combinations. A menu that demands multiple visits, with too many delicious, beautiful and creative options to choose from. Will be back!
I went to Dawson Kew for dinner the other night and started off with the saganaki with figs and orange blossom honey , mac and cheese croquettes and sticky pork belly
The Saganaki was beautifully presented and the honey and figs complimented the saltiness of the cheese really well and cut through the richness. The mac and cheese croquettes was our second favourite dish, the pasta was cooked perfectly and there was just enough cheese inside to do a nice pull, the harissa mayo was a nice addition as it gave the croquettes flavour. The pork belly had great flavour - sticky sauce was fantastic but I do feel like it could have been cooked alittle longer as it was not tender enough for my liking
For main we shared a seafood paella, each piece of seafood was perfectly cooked and we loved the flavour of the dish. The rice was crunchy at the bottom and cooked al dente. For dessert we ordered the strawberry sphere which was so delicious, the theatrical element of breaking the sphere to reveal a delicious cream and liquid strawberry centre
Overall we had a great time at Dawson Kew and I would definitely return to try more dishes and also try their brunch menu
Thanks for having us
This cafe, restaurant serves great food. We had the savoury mushroom French toast and matcha pannacotta 👌 😋 staff are very friendly and the coffee was spot on. ☕
Situated in Kew, Dawson offers an all-day dining experience that’s affordable yet refined. The wholesome and generous portions are definitely something to rave about, as was the genuine warmth and friendliness of the service from all the wait staff.
All this undoubtedly makes for a winning combination, and it’s no doubt Dawson is packed with locals on a Sunday arvo.
Coffee was alright, but the food was excellent! Been awhile since ive had cafe food that stood out. We tried a few dishes - the matcha panna cotta, black forest waffles, mushroom dish, spiced scrambled eggs. The panna cotta and waffles were the highlights - really nice combination of flavours. The sauteed kale on some of the dishes was also really tasty. Will definitely be back!
My new favourite place in Kew. So far I’ve had the Miso Salmon Salad, Beef Burger, Chorizo Paella and Piccante Pizza, all of which have been amazing. I cannot wait to go back soon to try the breakfast menu. Thanks to the staff at Dawson, keep up the good work!
Dawson is a beautiful cafe in Kew with a large space, lots of greenery and great food. They have a good variety of dishes on the menu from saganaki to pizzas to pork belly, not to mention Pina colada hotcakes. Everyone will be able to find something they love and they are open all day from brekky through to dinner.
It was a real pleasure to be invited down to Dawson today. Open a mere few months they have stellar credentials with the owners behind several other successful melbourne eateries. We were immediately impressed upon entry to find a lengthy cocktail list and set about sampling a variety of delicious concoctions. The lychee and ginger mojito was super refreshing and the strawberry daiquiri always a crowd pleaser. We also had one of the specials the Black Forest which was a vibrant stunning beverage and like a yummy liquid dessert.
Being 2pm we decided to forgo the brunch menu in favour of the more substantial dishes. We started with the mushroom arancini and chicken tacos which were great for sharing and very tasty. We then ordered the chilli fried calamari and slow roasted lamb shoulder. The calamari wasn’t very chilli which suited me well as I don’t like a lot of spice. The lamb was served with a beautiful beetroot labne and pomegranate which gave a beautiful pop of colour on the plate and a bit of zing to the dish. I would have loved to have even more of this to help break up the heaviness of the lamb. Both dishes were generously portioned, so much so we didn’t see how we could manage desert but it sounded so phenomenal we couldn’t pass it up.
We went for the tropical cheesecake and the warm dark chocolate brownie. They both plated absolutely beautifully and were extremely good value at $12. I loved the gorgeous mango sorbet on the cheesecake dish and the cocoa nib tuile. The sorbet gave it a real freshness and the tuile a nice contrasting texture. I also loved the brownie dish with its perfectly balanced elements; the caramel popcorn gave it some crunch and the richness of the dark chocolate paired well with the sweet miso caramel and creamy hazelnut ice cream. Do make sure you save room for dessert. My only regret is I couldn’t finish it all!
So so very good a perfect staple in anyone’s weekly diet a must try! Pork belly is higher quality and treated with care the taste perfect. All ingredients are very fresh crisp fresh as they should be the beat part of a salad is so important that it’s fresh !
Dawson Dawson Dawson ... what an outlet in Kew! I️ live relatively close to Kew but never really found any restaurants worth going back for - however at last I’ve found a ripper! Such a great menu for all three meals of the day! We went for dinner and were not disappointed. We shared the vegetarian paella (for 2) ($24) which was superb + the miso glazed salmon soba noodle salad ($19) the pan seared saganaki w/ grilled peach, orange blossom honey ($12) + a strawberry daiquiri, lychee ginger mojito ... then for dessert the MATCHA & BERRIES
// matcha panna cotta, raspberry parfait, caramelised white chocolate, berry textures ($12) what a feast 😍😍😍
Nice place to hang out and a decent food in kew. Friendly and casual. Good coffee good breakfast, nice interior, hope it does well in kew quite a tough place for cafe and restaurants.
The only place I will have coffee in kew cause not many choice at all. Pretty nice coffee with lots of choice and friendly staff. If you expect a higher standard of coffee than maccaS. Dawson will be the place that you should go.
Dawson is a fairly new 100 seater all-day eatery, offering a comfortable, casual dining experience on Kew’s High Street. We visited for brunch...
Located in Kew, Dawson is a laid back restaurant serving food from 8am till late. The menu boasts a range of delicious eats from hotcakes to pizza, burgers and paella, all made by a team of experienced and passionate chefs. We absolutely loved tasting our way through the menu. To start the grilled octopus is not to be missed. Perfectly cooked, the octopus’ natural salinity is further enhanced by a chorizo crumb and zesty salsa verde.
Pleasant cafe with very appealing menu. I ordered the piña colada hotcakes which came with coconut ice cream, white chocolate sauce, grilled pineapple, pineapple curd and toasted coconut. Despite sounding amazing these hotcakes fell short. The main problem was the hotcakes themselves. Unfortunately, they were just too huge and a bit dry and cake like. Traditional pancakes would have been far preferable. The eggs benny looked brilliant though.
What a great place and menu! We loved everything about this place. Very modern interior and a variety of dishes on the menu. We were especially excited about the Eggs Benedict! Absolutely delicious. The Mac & Cheese croquettes were so crispy. Loved everything about this place! Worth a visit.
Dining at Dawsons Kew is designed to impress.
The Tasting Plate (for 2) was exquisite.
Wild mushroom & leek arancini, salt & schezuan pepper calamari, mount zero olives, beetroot labneh, prosciutto and bresaola, a special cured meat produced in Sondrio province, Lombardy. We also decided on the Pan Seared Saganaki with grilled peach and orange blossom honey. The combination was a match made in heaven.
For dessert we had the Matcha & Berries. This included matcha panna cotta, raspberry parfait, caramelised white chocolate with berry textures. -Delicious!
Dawson offers a good wine and boutique beer selection with cocktail favourites too to refresh the palate. The strawberry daiquiri and La Vue Grenache Rose was perfect for Melbourne's hot summer nights.
The atmosphere at Dawson offers creative food plating combined with an ambience perfect for intimate conversations and spaces for larger groups.
The Restaurant keeps its prices fair and represents excellent value. It provides a culnery experience that will linger way after you've left.
Open 8am to 10pm -Breakfast to supper and everything in between.
Instagram Worthy: great surfaces that make the food look amazing and vibrant.
Really lovely staff, awesome atmosphere, and great food and coffee. I'll be coming back again, especially as their breakfast menu is until 4pm.
Pina colada hotcakes are really the star here. I'm not usually a fan of sweet breakfasts, however the sweetest element (white choc ganache) is separated for you to add as you like. The hotcakes are light and fluffy with a good crust on the outside. The size is good, not too filling but you will definitely be satisfied.
We tried the Dawson eggs Benedict which is probably our favourite savoury dish on their menu. The Dr Marty's Crumpets are fantastic and great with the hollandaise. They also do perfectly poached eggs.
Returned for dinner as a group and were very pleased with the options available. Would have liked to try the sticky lamb ribs but they were sold out! The chocolate brownie and Mandarin dessert were beautifully presented and yum too.
Dawson - you are a big yes from me! Had haerd good things about this place so of course I went for brekkie. Sat outside and asked for a juice recommendation and the waiter nailed it! I had the ride and shine juice. Ordered the breakfast bowl (add bacon of course) and it was delicious. Great flavours and colour, the beetroot labneh was a definite highlight for me - both colour and flavour was 100% on point. Staff were extremely lovely and friendly and overall was just a great venue - I’ll be back.
Walking into this restaurant it was such a beautiful and relaxing atmosphere with clean lines and modern furnishings.
In the well lit space we were seated and with help from the waiter to pick a great meal we started out meal with the mac and cheese croquettes 3 for $9 with harissa mayo, since we have started all these foodie reviews I am now officially a connoisseur and let me tell you these are the best I have had! We also enjoyed the pan seared saganaki $12 with the grilled peach and orange blossom honey was a fantastic combination.
This was followed by the miso glazed salmon $19 with soba noodles this was a very light and refreshing meal with the broccolini, edamame beans, spring onion, bean shoots, coriander, mint, soy & sesame dressing this was very flavoursome.
Along with the slow roasted lamb shoulder $21with the grain salad, beetroot labneh, za’atar flatbread was delicious and a very filling meal. The seafood paella (for 2) $29 is a very generous serve of very flavoursome prawns, calamari, mussels, fish, chilli, garlic, smoked paprika, saffron, salsa verde. This was so on point and I highl recommend this dish as well.
Along with the rose and my lemon lime bitters this really hit the mark for a long lazy Saturday lunch.
Service from all the staff who were highly knowledgeable on the menu and very provided efficient and prompt service throughout. Thankyou for the invite, we will definitely visit again.
Took my girl down to Dawson’s for dinner tonight and it was fantastic. We both got the grain salad and we shared a few starters. The food was amazing and the staff were friendly from the moment we walked in. I’ll be heading back to Dawson’s soon for breakfast as iv been told that the breakfast at this place is to die for. Well done to the team who have got this place going again, see you soon👌👍
Damn this place is good. Spot on service and sensational food! Just back from early dinner with our 2 out of 3 of our kids and every meal was a winner. Our boys loved the wood-fired pizza, and the mac and cheese was top notch. I had the pork belly salad which, if I'd listened to my stomach, I would have stopped eating half way through because it was such a generous portion. My tastebuds won out though and I nailed the whole lot! Hubs had the buttermilk chicken burger with Asian slaw and it was sensational. Topped it off with a great lychee mojito (given it was happy hour, it would have been rude not to). Add all that to super friendly waiting staff, great prices and swift service, and well, we're already trying to think of an excuse to get back there! A great addition to Kew.
You'd probably think you'd stepped into QPO from down the road since you'll recognise some familiar faces here. Named after the old electrical store which use to be here, the new Dawson provides contemporary tapas, burgers, pizzas and craft beers.
We ordered tasting plate with the highlights being the beetroot labneh dip sauce which seems to appear quite often and the calamari. Size wise we prob still prefer the one down the road but of course everyone has to be unique.
Beers....stone & wood garden ale of pacific ale? go Pacific ale on the tap. I'm dying to try the rest next time as there's so much to choose from. It would be more delightful if they had more than 2 choice on tap.
Mains ! So i chose the slow roast lamb shoulder over the burgers and pizza this time. My friend had the wagu which was positive feedbacks. Although you don't get chips with it i'm afraid. Would be good if you could pretty please.... the lamb was beautiful, soft and tender with the lemon on top complimented with the mix grain salad.
We'll be back and surely will be adding it to our weekly rotational places to eat.
Dawson has seriously upped the standard of eateries in the Kew area. Not knowing what to expect from our visit, we were pleasantly surprised when every single thing we ordered- from cocktails to entrees, mains to desserts was delicious!! They also do 12$ cocktail happy hour which is a must visit if in need of a good place in Kew. For entree we ordered the Mac and cheese croquettes, saganaki and mushroom arrancini balls. The saganaki and Mac and cheese were simply to die for- such cheese heaven! We loved that the saganaki was topped with grilled peach- such interesting flavour combinations. The arrancini were great too but lacked some powerful flavours compared to the other two. For main we ordered the chicken paella (note- the “for two” is certainly the case!) which was well flavoured! We also had the glazed salmon noodle salad which was incredible! The salmon melted in our mouths! To finish we shared the dark choc brownie and deconstructed tropical cheesecake. Not only did dessert come out looking STUNNING! they tasted amazing too with so many elements that worked well together. New on the block, dawson is a must visit!
Take away ice coffee and cappuccino from this new cafe in Kew. The barista seems like not so experienced, but not bad. Brunch looks so good when I passed dining in tables. I will try it next time.
We really enjoyed - friendly service, good ambience (once they stopped playing Red Hot Chili Peppers ... not ideal dining music...). Lovely food, couldn't really fault (and quick kitchen too). Menu says paella feeds two but this is untrue; we had that, plus pork belly salad, and croquettes, and that was a decent feed.
One word......Awesome. Staff are great, food sensational, atmosphere and decor perfect. Hot tip - get the slow roasted lamb shoulder! Delicious to say the least. Prices are very reasonable too 👍
Wow what a find 😁, only open approximately one week! So great to have a lovely venue that is open 8 til late 😊 not every eating experience falls into cafe time constraints so its wonderful to have an alternative. The fit out modern with a funky edge to it, love the pops of orange and the metal cage material ❤️, bentwood chairs and lovely sharp knives!!! The menu is very extensive and varied . If you had difficulty making a choice you would be super hard to please and possibly should stay home! Staff were lovely, one being quite new to the job we guessed, made a mistake with one of our dishes ordered which was immediately rectified with no fuss whatsoever 😁. Would love to return for diner, can imagine the ambience fitting our family of 8 to a tee! Well done Dawson wish you nothing but success 😘
It’s great to finally have a place in Q that’s serving a cool menu. The Otway pork belly was amazing. Will be back tomorrow to try something else from their menu. Yuuuummmy
