Review Adeney Milkbar Cafe - Kew

Yangyv _
A tucked away brunch place opposite the kew ovals and cemetay, they have a great cold drip coffee if you ever want that but we went for brunch. I suggest you sit in a more open part of the cafe if you don't want to be forgotten about, but otherwise food is pretty good and well priced and came out all at once!

Great coffee and savoury goodies! We love coming here almost every morning to get a coffee before work. Friendly staff and always smiling. The only thing I would recommend is expanding the vegan menu. In terms of mains there isn't much. A salad (need to remove eggs) and oats/muesli. If they would add another vegan option (hot main) that would be amazing and definitely eat here more!

Atrocious coffee, excellent pancakes and rosti, average eggs benny, good service and convenient parking. There’s always a weekend crowd grabbing takeaway coffee, though I was thoroughly disappointed. The long black tasted extremely bitter and burnt. It wasn’t palatable. The cappuccino was overly milky and had a very thin layer of foam. The flat white was milky too and probably the only one that could pass as coffee. 0/5. The pancakes were fantastic and the side of bacon requested crispy were very crispy. The side of Rosti was really crispy and delicious too. However the Eggs Benny was quite average with just too much going on. 3/5 Service was great and the team was polite and friendly. There’s lots of parking out front. 5/5 With lots of cafes in the area and such a competitive industry, the coffee really needs to be better. Probably will not return even though the pancakes were great.

I was told off by a female staff (not in a very polite manner) not to bring my dog into the cafe (indoor) when I was just by my own (no where to tie the dog leash and no staff helping at outdoor area that time) and I just want to do payment after my breakfast. To avoid all this, it’s better to put a notice outside stating NO dogs allowed to come in. Anyway, now I know I can pay at their take away window. But got to know this in not an enjoyable experience. For dog lovers, please remember to pay at their take away window if you have no one to look after your dogs.

I would have given 4 stars as good service, outside is lovely, coffee and milkshakes great, but it needs: (i) a full spring clean all throughout the inside- dust everywhere, speaker cables, cobwebs in corners, (ii) bit more patience from the main barrister (my kids just needed a napkin and got a told off for disturbing him - soured the experience, (iii) a bit more fly management inside, (iv) a tidy up in the back garden, (v) some acoustic fixes in the small rooms, (vi) maybe a move to home-made chips rather than packet (although they were good!)….

Place looked busy so had high hopes but it was a little underwhelmed unfortunately. Wasnt much cohesion between the flavours and they came out lukewarm. Quantity is good though as well as the price point. Maybe what I ordered just wasn't my thing so worth checking out overall.

DO: The corn fritters. DON’T: Want to sit in, the takeaway menu is great too. PROTIP: Park across road for the little ones to run off brunch after.

Came in for a hot chocolate and some lunch… wonderful food and extremely friendly service! A very lovely environment to be in. I would highly recommend coming here!!

Great place to stop for a quick brekkie before school drop off. Yummy food, great service and great coffee. Win Win Win!

Wonderful cafe. It was great under previous owners James and Kat and I still enjoy getting my coffee here on my way to work.

Great service, amazing coffee and the Smashed avo was gooood!

Decent coffee and nice local vibe. A menu with a good range of options, including those for the kids. The fritters were sensational - good flavour and texture combination. Look forward to trying the next version of them coming out soon.

Excellent breakfast. The avocado smash was amazing, and the service was very friendly!

First time ordering brunch home delivery and we were so impressed with the freshness and quality. We the felafel bowl with halloumi, super fresh, tasty and delicious mix of flavours. We also got the potato rosti, 3 small but chunky rosti with a tasty salad, salmon and zingy pesto. Add 2 fresh juices and it was almost as good as going out. Great flavour and value, highly recommend.

This is a super cute cafe in Kew and has such a great breakfast menu. It is one of those cafes that is great to visit during the warmer months as they have lovely benches to sit at when dining in. A while back I tried their waffles which were so well made and accompanied with cream and strawberries. They also have some great options to pick from in the window such as yummy wraps, sandwiches and sweets.

The cafe was in great location and very child friendly place as they have some toy. The coffee was good and my almond croissant was ok. Staff was very friendly .

The meal looked really nice and the sauce tasted delicious but the potato rösti was super oily unfortunately! I just felt like I was eating crunchy oil.

Adeney Milk Bar is a great place to go after you have played sport on Victoria Park or after a run. It is a nice milk bar but it is not my favourite.
Foood4Dayzzz
Adeney Milk bar is a bit of a mixed bag. It's in a great area to pick up something after a walk or run, but sometimes they fail me and I get disappointed. Their hot chocolates are a bit pricy and the food is alright. I certainly don't mind it, but not my favorite place.

Lovely service. Just popped into view coming back from Heide Makers Market. Was full food wise so no munchies. Green juice lovely and spicy from the ginger. Mocha not to my taste bcz of the beans used. It reminds me of Next of Kin. Beans almost with a grapefruit taste. No points down bcz if that just my tastebuds. Would definitely come back.

I love adeney milk bar! It’s a great local where you can enjoy the Kew lifestyle. The food is always delicious and very generous in their serves. The menu has something for everyone with lots of breakfast classics! I’ve eaten my way through and the muesli, smashed avo and scramble are my fave!

I visit almost every Sunday for a hot drink. Should really try the food here coz the coffee is always lovely ! When I walk pass, the presentation of food is mouth watering !
James
The choc, coffee, banana shake is insane! So much power! Had a the special eggs Benedict which was an interesting and delicious take on a classic. Great place for regular hangout. Staff always lovely and comfortable coffee is excellent

Often visit Adeney as it is close to home and have never been disappointed. Went out with Mum and ordered the Wagyu beef burger which was very tasty, with the meat patty being quite juicy and fresh.

Mum ordered the Honeymoon wrap, which consists of a healthy combination of tomato, lettuce and avocado. She really enjoyed it.

Staff were friendly and pleasant. Will return back

Have often passed this cute little café front on the way to the park and have been meaning to call in for some time.. Well last seedy Sunday was the day. It was jam packed with humans and pooches alike so we opted for takeaway to take back to the park. The menu items were simple but I felt there was plenty of variety, something for everyone. The service was friendly and considering how busy they were the wait was not long at all. There is a handy little “wait” bench off to the side service window which was appreciated. My ham, cheese and tomato croissant was beautiful, just the way a croissant should be. My boyfriend really enjoyed his bacon and egg roll with smokey BBQ sauce and rocket, coffee was okay but could have been better. Looking forward to going back for a sit in breakfast. Adeney looks to be a much appreciated pit stop for all with fur babies!

This place is a brilliant little cafe. I’ve gone back again and again for the fritters and hope they put it on the permanent menu - one of the best cafe dishes I’ve ever had. The coffee and fresh juices are also fabulous!
Emily
While the menu is a little uninspired, they do the classics justice. I was disappointed when I realised the small lunch menu was all sandwiches except for one salad since I'm not a huge fan. Would be nice to see some more variety in the menu aside from sandwiches and brekkie.

I ordered the basic Milk Bar burger - pricey at $15 with +$3 for egg or +$4 for bacon. Nice but a bit heavy (I didn't eat the top bun or I wouldn't have been able to finish!) and needed something fresher tasting to break up the rich flavours. We also grabbed a Copperfield Toastie (special) to share $16 - that's poached chicken, mayo, pesto, beetroot relish, avocado and spinach between some Noisette multigrain (my one weakness!). Definitely prefer this over the burger as it's lighter tasting but filling and flavourful. We were surprised to see that no fries come with the sandwiches/burgers or on the menu at all - we later realised that its probably a good thing since the servings are pretty big.

Spiced carrot cake ($5 a slice) was dry and too heavy on the spice to the point that it was bitter. Would be improved a bit by being warmed and served with cream.

Service was very hit and miss - one waitress was very helpful, splitting our milkshake into separate glasses and sandwich on separate plates, while we seemed invisible to another when we tried to order. Food took a long time to come out for something that is just assembled in the kitchen or pre-done, we were waiting about 40 minutes on a weekday lunch.

Only going in to uni twice a week now I did the only sensible thing, used up my free time for yet another lunch out. I chose Adeney Milk Bar, as I have enjoyed their cookies and muffins for years but I have only tried out the menu a few times. On a previous occasion a few weeks ago I tried their winter smashed Avo. It was a really good serving size and very reasonably priced. The avocado was seasoned perfectly and it had just the right amount of feta! I then went back with some girlfriends, where I ordered the beef sandwhich. It was soooo yummy and the beef was really nicely flavoured, which went really well with the tomato relish.
Overall, I think this has become a new local favourite with great quality reasonably priced food and coffee! 😄
Lola A.
Brilliant brunch spot! Excellent food, and I've tried most things on the menu. The best zucchini fritters I've ever had!! Still dream about these, have never found fritters as good anywhere else. And the coffee! Honestly I think it's the best in Melbourne. Love it here! Would come more often if I lived closer for sure.

Today was my first time at Adeney cafe, it seemed like a good place, always busy when I drive past and the menu looked good.

Unfortunately their was a hair in my food. This for me is completely unacceptable and instantly makes me feel a bit yuck. Someone else's hair on your plate wedged in between the toast and the butter on it.

I'll never go back as to me this is below ok in the hospitality business.
Maxbella19
Stopped in with a friend during our walk around the park. Ordered coffees and the Mexican Honeymoon Wrap. We were consuming the Mexica Divorce Wrap by the time it arrived 25 minutes later, after asking the waitstaff to check on our orders TWICE! We could not fathom why a simple pre-made wrap, served with a wedge of lime, deserved such a grandiose name nor took so much time to plate up. Not good enough. Will not come back.

Hidden but definitely not unknown. This quaint little milk bar turned cafe is busy both weekdays and weekends alike and it's hard to manage the noisy crowd whilst dining indoors. Service however is quick and the quality of food is great! Will return but will probably dine outdoors

Generally loved going to this cafe until recently. I spoke clearly and with 10yrs of ordering gluten free experience. I simply asked for a GF toasted ham cheese tomato take away with my coffee long blacks are the best from here best coffee in a 1km radius of this location. Long story short I am dirty on this cafe and it's crappy POS system caused me to ingest an entire sandwich trusting the girl heard me clearly.
Eliza Sinclair
Wonderful food with generous servings and reasonable prices. Coffee was strong and smooth and great location. Happy to call this place my new regular
Ross Crisp
Good place to go when its not too crowded (and it often is) and you want somewhere a little off the main stretch (which it is). Great coffee - and that is a vital statistic for me. Occasionally has a great breakfast special.

So here I was, thinking lucky me I have a morning off during the week. Seems like everyone else did too & then we all went to Adeney Milk Bar. I've been here a few times on the weekend & it's always busy. Looks like it's consistently like that any day of the week.

Got myself the Vic Park Toastie (ham, cheese, tomato, and avocado). It was thick & filling. Wasn't expecting to not be able to finish it, so I ended up taking half with me. When u go to the counter, if you're not tempted by the Doughboys doughnuts, then you have some serious self-control. Clearly I don't & I grabbed the salted caramel & chocolate ganache doughnut for the road. For $5 it seems pricey, but it was amazing.

Coffee is lovely & the service is even lovelier. It's also located right near a park, so lots of people bring their dogs. Makes for a really pleasant start to your day.

Such a cute little cafe with a great menu full of delicious selections! The coffee blend is one of the best I've had. Staff were very friendly and the service was fast and efficient. It's also very well priced! Highly recommend the smashed avo- I've had a lot of cafe smashed avo in my life and I must say, it was one of the best !

Cute little spot in Kew, a well-executed Melbourne staple of avocado smash on multigrain, and the owner James is a real gem and took the time for a chat even on a busy brunch service. Thank you!
Guzzling
Nice place for locals to just sit and chat, especially for those of us with dogs. The place has got a really cute vibe but the food left me feeling pretty meh. The smashed avo was overpriced for what it was and coffee was just average. There's better places in Kew but a convenient cafe when you can't be bothered walking far.
Stephanie
A quaint old Milkbar converted cafe, tucked away off the main streets of Kew right opposite beautiful lush green parks.
•Food: the menu was a good length with many different flavour options. I would've liked to see more vego dishes. The sweets and doughnut display is a must. Of the orders during my visit the smoked salmon bagel was very tasty, the ham and cheese croissant was generous and had multiple slices of thick cut ham, the cocoa ball was flavoursome but nothing to rave about, the coffee was really nice and my matcha turmeric latte was yummy though I would've liked to see/taste more of the turmeric.
•Service: as expected, no special mentions.
•Final note: definitely worth a visit, the location absolutely makes it.

Great little cafe in the suburbs. Coffee was good and just has this good vibe to it on a sunny day. The Spring Smash here is really good, nice twist on the normal smash avo you see at every cafe now.
John Kirubai
The mocha here is just at the right tangent to more on the coffee side with a thicker milk . I drive down from Heidelberg to Malvern everyday and I make sure I stop by adeney to grab a mocha
Travelling Palate
This is a great cafe in the heart of Kew. It serves great coffee and sweets. It also has a great breakfast and lunch menu, though it would be well served if it had a few more vegetarian options. I love the convenience of the take-away coffee window.
Coffee And Food
My favourite cafe near my house, Delicious coffee and gorgeous crew with fantastic service. Good place to chit chat and have breakfast. Reminder: Long wait for coffee especially public holiday and morning weekend. Coffee just too good, can't resist 🙌.

Super cool cafe with great coffee and delicious brekky. Friendly staff (especially the beautiful Steph) and relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely be back!

great little cafe that I discovered after a funeral recently , Coffee was on point, and the staff were lovely. I had the salmon bagel and it was so yummy, Will be back!

Adeney Milkbar is a neighbourhood cafe, with a small space indoors, as well as an outdoor area out the front. We visited for afternoon tea - ordering a chai latte, a hot chocolate, and two donuts. Coffee is sourced from Industry Beans, and the donuts which are from Doughboys, are only available on weekends. The staff were friendly and efficient, although the wait for coffee was a tad long. The donuts were fresh, and I particularly enjoyed the flavour of the Blood Orange one, being not too overly sweet.

Love the setup. Bring the kids here for the milkshakes, they absolutely love them. Coffee is good for the adults. A favorite place when the sun is out.
Jessie Hams
The service was friendly and it was a nice little setup. Ordered milkshakes which were just milk mixed with topping, which was quite a let down - i could hardly taste the caramel. The food took a little while but was good overall, I had the Mexican honeymoon wrap which was very tasty.
Live2eat
Nice little spot across the road from the park, away from the main road trams. Love sitting out the front in the sun, as the friendly staff deliver a good quality coffee.
Nat
Good coffee, good service, good food (menu had a good selection). Lots of locals. Right across from a dog park which is handy. Definitely visit here again.
Bonjourchickie
Perched on the banquette seating along the wall, I had a wonderful view of the street outside and full view of another separate dining space towards the rear of building. It's quite cosy in the seating department and not long after arriving, a family with very young children sat down at the next table alongside me, which was in such close proximity that I could have helped myself to their breakfast as well. It was no laughing matter when the little girl then proceeded to keep yelling repeatedly in my left ear, "Mummy, what can I have to eat?" for what seemed like an eternity.
CJ
One of my fav local cafes. It's very relaxing sitting at adeney looking over the park, particularly outside on a sunny arvo. Great food - I really like the smashed avocado. Coffee is also really good
Puzzles
They do a very decent coffee and uses Industry Beans, which I really like. Have not really eaten there except their cakes and slices, but looking at their menu the food looks pretty standard and ordinary. I would say that they offer the best coffee around Kew at the moment.
Samuel Ryan
This is a great little find. I stumbled upon it while on tour. You can tell it's got something going on. It's very cute and has nice tables out the front. It's inviting. I had a flat white and bacon&egg roll here and loved both. I went back again for another coffee another day. I also got some Industry Beans from them for my home set-up. They, too, are great. Go here.

I LOVE it when my little local cafes are kicking goals. Absolutely brilliant morning at this treasure. Wasn't planning on eating but I couldnt go past the smashed avo. Ahhhhhh I'm going to say it was one of the BEST coffeeees I've had. Staff were fantastic! There was no rush to leave so we sat for 2 hours and ordered more coffee. Definitely get around this little quiet achiever.

As you can guess Adeney used to be a milk bar and it's been converted to a cute little local cafe. It does still have the drinks and ice-cream coolers so it is still a milk bar! Across the road is a park and there are tables out front which is great when there's good weather and a good spot for human and fur kids.

Adeney is our local brunch and coffee spot. We keep coming back not because it is so close, but because we always have a good experience there. The waiters are incredible kind and thoughtful. The food is fast and delicious. The coffee is amazing. There is a happy and calm atmosphere. There's really nothing to criticise here and I hope it stays the same for a long time.
Cristy
Picked up a takeaway coffee and a muffin from the takeaway window. Very handy when you've got a pram or dog with you. Great coffee, delicious muffin. Quick and very friendly service. Plus there's a playground over the road!
Sarah
I had such high expectations but was really disappointed not only by the food but the rushed service. I ordered the winter avocado on sourdough. The coriander, lime and chilli was a nice combo but the bread was tough, thin and burnt. Only 5 minutes having received my meal, I was asked not once but twice if they could take my plate - not only was I mid mouthful, but I still had half my meal left to finish. You can of course imagine what happened when I finished my last bite of food - the plate vanished in a flash! I hadn't planned a lazy long lunch as I was on a quick break from work. Yes it was the lunchtime rush so I can understand their need to turn tables over quickly, but I seriously don't think that 7 minutes is table hogging!

Adeney Milk Bar recently celebrated their second birthday and is a great local hangout to sip a coffee and read the papers on the weekend. An old milk bar that has been converted to a café, Adeney Milk Bar is located opposite a sports oval down a side street in Kew. The café weaves its way around some white rooms where a bottle of foliage can be found on each table. The menu is simple with a focus on sandwich and breakfast items. As well as some homemade cakes, they now stock Doughboys Doughnuts!
The Weekly Review
Sporting local families have helped James and Cat Laskie make their cheerful milk bar on Adeney Avenue in Kew a success. They fill every available seat for breakfast and coffee on weekends, especially Sunday mornings. The brother-and-sister team opened Adeney about 18 months ago with a borrowed espresso machine; their expensive custom-designed espresso machine was stolen two nights before the business began trading. It’s the third café for the Laskies, who set up 30 Mill Café in Malvern and Base Camp Espresso in Kew with the help of their father Ted. They sold both businesses to focus on Adeney. James and Cat grew up nearby and had often thought about turning the former milk bar, which had been used as a residence and an artist’s studio, into a café. The building was derelict when they took it over and their father again helped with the renovations. They are planning to open a take-away tea and coffee window on Argyle R

Great coffee and can't go past the Vic Park Toastie. Chill and laid back cafe with service to match. :)

Delicious coffee!!. Ducked into Adeney for a coffee this morning and it is just perfect. Really smooth, delicious coffee. Keep up the great work team!

Always a pleasure to visit.. The Adeney Milk Bar is a regular spot for Sunday brunch for my friends and I - we are there nearly every week. The owners and staff are always very friendly, attentive and accommodating, even if they are very busy, quiet, or somewhere in-between. The Adeney serves great locally sourced coffee and delicious meals. I've tried nearly everything on their menu, and have never been disappointed; even simple poached eggs on toast is a winner. A few favourites are the Salmon Bagel, Chicken Chiabatta and whichever omelette is going at the time! The milk bar's decor is quaint and simple, with a few original pieces from it's past hung on the walls. There is adequate seating for couples or groups, and you can sit inside or out, depending on your mood (or the weather!). If you haven't visited The Adeney yet, you are definitely missing out!

Best coffee. I have been going to Adeney Milk Bar Cafe regularly ever since it has opened. They are always so friendly, with such great service and they make probably one of the best coffees I have ever had. The menu is just the right size and I love their winter porridge. This is definitely a cafe you don't want to miss.
Affogoddess
New fave. Friendly staff, their affogato especially is an indulgence! Great outdoor seating area and can also recommend the chicken ciabatta. YUMMY!

This is a great little family owned place. A group of us go to The Adeney every Sunday for brekky or lunch, and have done since it first opened - it's that good! The menu is the perfect size and absolutely everything on it that I've had has been made to perfection. The coffee is great, the service is excellent, and they really appreciate their regulars with occasional free coffees and the like. My favourite cafe in Melbourne - Highly recommended!!
The Oracle
Kew backstreet cafe. The new gauged in kew cafe culture, light, breezy cafes with close tables and light colours.
Busy, mix of private school graduates, teachers and locals, easy parking and excellent coffee.
Menu is not inspiring, and if you try to distinguish your smashes by adding coriander and chillies then for gods sake, add enough to be able to taste it.
The eggs are extra for the smashes, and we have been twice, and the first time, orders were mixed up, second time, they were spot on.
The guys try hard and deserve success, well worth a visit and if you r a local, and there r heaps of locals and office workers, this
Lace will rock!
Speaking of rocking, fix up your music, but prices are ok, not good for value but not bad either, just the serve sizes are a bit mingy
Chips_Dumplings
Less options than a general store. Menu was limited. Where's the bacon? Allows split bills. Very pet friendly. Food was edible. Bread was tough. Service friendly.
Leslie Lawrence
Why such a bad rating!? This place is a gem! Great bagel with salmon, salad & cream cheese for only $10 & great coffee as well!! I give it 100
Jase
I love this spot!. There must be something wrong with the reviewers who don't like it. I thought the service was friendly and their coffee was smooth, rich and satisfying!!
TheWildMushroom
The soy latté was good in a quality take away cup. The gentleman who served me was friendly , beamed several smiles and thanked me after I left. I'm not sure why people are complaining about service when it's clearly called the Adeney Milkbar not the Adeney Fine Dining Restaurant. It's a cafe in the middle of a jungle of residential blocks for god's sake. Though instead of the organic soy milk with my latte, I would prefer vita soy calci plus.
Brunchisbest
Love it! Have the adeney burger!- the chutney in it is incredible
An
Aways love Adeney, favourite place to pick up a quick coffee. Great food as well.....Service always good love how they will do a half serve!!
Janos1969
This place is just a stones throw from my house and it breaks my heart that it is so disappointing. Service is half hearted at best The coffee needs a tweak, it's boring and at $3.80 there are better local options for coffee and food Cafe Ora does fabulous coffee and awesome food.. A great all rounder.
On a side note customers let their dogs jump on the outdoor tables, I am revolted by this and they also have an annoying regular guy who allows his hyper active dog to bark continuously while he studiously ignores it. So I will probably just stay away from here ... Very sad for me.
Billy Haider
Bad experience!!! Quite impolite barista. On a Sunday morning whilst rushing for sports training session was 30 cents short and was refused a coffee. Very bad form for a suburban cafe.
Hopcraftj
Service? What service. This was my second try at the milkbar and again it disappointed. I'm not going to pull about the poor girl who tried to serve us but my complaint must go to the Owner/Management. From both my experiences and reading other reviews on Urbanspoon it all points to lack of training.I have no idea as to who the owners are but it is obvious that the hospitality business is not in their recent experience. Waitng for over 15mins to get attended to, then when the food arrives,no cutlery was forth coming had to get up and request it. Then after finishing waited another 15 mins for someone to firstly, take the plates away and secondly, ask us for a coffee, none of which happened. If they don't take heed to what is happening to the service then no amount of money splashed on a coffee machine is going to entice and keep clientele.
Beastfeeds
I don't know about the service reviews, have been coming here since it opened and have always been looked after. Coffee is delicious, industry's beans struggle to go wrong. Poached eggs on smashed avo was also a winner. Can't wait for the further expansion, it's only downfall ATM is a lack of sitting room
Emily Spalding
Can't afford to miss when it comes to coffee.... Popped in for a long black during my Sunday afternoon walk. First impressions were good however, being a black coffee drinker, there is nowhere to hide when the coffee is not great. With tough competition abounding, I don't believe you can afford to miss when it comes to coffee. C'mon Adeney, c'mon!!! Everyone wants to see you succeed!
MMM
I have to agree with recent reviews. As a local I really want this place to be great, but it's not there yet. Gorgeous location and cute little building, but very average coffee given its the most expensive in the area, light food options not inspired, and service about hit and miss. Hopefully these are teething problems, though the coffee price is a bit steep
Jane
Cute place and as a local I am desperate for it to be great. I have four times since it opened. Adney Milk Bar's biggest problem is its inconsistent service. One time I waited almost five minutes to be acknowledged and that's lousy considering the place is tiny in front. You practically walk into the barista when you step through the front door. The staff are you g and enthusiastic but lack experience. They gather round the counter fussing over the friands while failing to notice that customers wish to be seated. I have varied my arrival time so not to clash with footy crowd who descend on the place due to its proximity to Vic Park and still received poor service. The barista looked up at me as I walked through the door and looked straight back down again. Complete failure to acknowledge the customer. Made me feel unwelcome and unimportant. I have not been back since that June visit. It's a pity as it is a five minute walk from my house and I so wanted it to be good. Menu is small but has some good stuff - I have the ago on toast. Coffee is fine too. Just unpolished service lets it down and that is something I cannot overlook.
Omnomnomnomnom.
Hit and miss. Really gorgeous little spot - so nice to be off the main strip with the view of the park! Decor is adorable. However, staff can be a bit hopeless and the menu is VERY basic. Ate stale toast with smashed avocado the last time I was in and the coffee was cold and underwhelming. It is very cute, but there are much nicer places in the area with a better product. Adeney isn't cheap for what you get, either.
Offshore
Nice place but the coffee was disappointing. Came here on a busy Sunday morning specifically to try the coffee. Cute place and the staff were friendly but the coffee wasn't great. I had high expectations for a popular young-run place, unfortunately I probably won't come back for the coffee.
Dane
Cool little cafe in the middle of surburban Kew streets. Quaint, nice layout, friendly staff and gooood coffee! Winners! Recommended for sure!
Nikita Petroulias
Liked the place. Has a lot of potential . Terrible coffee for what you would expect for the area.
Mowie
I don't see what the fuss is about. Slow service. Dreadful curry. And that was a Friday arvo. Won't be back.
10024
Sat for 10 min before any acknowledgement from staff. Helped ourselves to cold drinks from fridge and then was close to another 10 min before we were approached w menus. Staff not attentive, didn't look as if they were happy to be there. Coffee scorching hot. Meals were quite nice, esp the Mexican wrap. Considering the number of other great cafes in the area, Adeney have not given me reason to go back.
Aurelius_spark
Corner Shop Conversion. Came across this place by chance and decided to pop in for a weekday lunch. The cafe was around 50-75% full so had a nice atmosphere, not too bustling but not too quiet. Service was quite friendly, not too pushy.

Ordered off the specials menu (Tandoori Chicken Ciabatta) which was pretty damn delicious and hit the spot perfectly, with the chicken itself being the standout (followed closely by the ciabatta) Coffee was adequate, although if not a little on the cool side.

Will probably head back here again to try something else as there seemed to be enough choice on the menu if you make it past the specials board on which all three items sounded really good. Although, I wasn't particularly attracted to any of the items displayed around the counter.

Destined to do well simply by location but I found it crowded & pokey. Average hot chocolate. OK service. OK food - nothing amazing. But clearly appeals to the Kew crowd. Plate of uncovered muffins on the counter for everyone to sneeze on was offputting.

Coffee isn't great. The milk in my coffee was way too hot. It was like it had been boiled in a kettle. The prices are pretty steep too.

Bad service, expensive & indifferent staff. What was supposed to be an enjoyable afternoon catch up with the girls, soon turned into a French farce. We ordered cakes, coffees and milkshakes, however the coffee and croissant I ordered seemed to have gone missing in action and the indifferent and disorganised waiting staff needed several reminders before they brought it along without any apology, whatsoever. Granted it was a busy Sunday crowd, and a simple apology probably would have quenched my fire, but even after a few hours of simmering down, my impression of this place remains the same – while it may look the part, the shoddy service means it lacks any hospitality and soul. I shan't return.

Little Gem. This is a great new cafe and in a place where there was always destined to be one.

The coffee is rich and satisfying. The fitout is modest and perfectly set in its corner shop location.

The food descriptions on the menu could be given a boost but part of the charm of this place is its modest, homely presentation.

Keep up the nice work!

Could & should be better. Four visits now to Adeney - a great looking little cafe set in a prime location in Kew to catch what could be a loyal local crowd.
Sadly each visit has been more of a disappointment than the last.
Popped in early on the first day of trade to grab a FW and wish them luck after that Slayer setback. Tom, bright & friendly, behind the machine. The package, Supreme beans & a Slayer, promised more than it delivered. Follow up visits have been more of the same - thin coffees, lacking any body or lingering flavour. Milk is way too hot.
The menu offering is simple, which is great if it's well executed. It's not yet.
Toasties are thin and left me feeling like there was more to come.
The muffins are just more of the same. There is better out there.
Popped in this morning with kid on way to school to grab a quick FW and HC. Sat at front window waiting, waiting, waiting for service. The floor staff are there but they seem to hide behind the counter or at the pass bar? We had to go up and order and then received takeaways instead?
Cold Hot Chocolate and very hot Flat White. How's that work?
There is a lot to improve at Adeney, especially given the local options of Ora & Percy's Airplane. The location is just one part of the package.
The coffee needs a big review. It really is a disappointment given the beans and the machine.

Promising. Coffee is a tad more expensive than similar joints. Menu is limited but hopefully will expand in future

Great little cafe! The menu is very basic but what we had was delicious. Hopefully they'll improve the kitchen soon so you can get a cooked breaky, was pretty surprised to not see eggs on the menu. Still worth a visit though and the coffee is heaven.

Great coffee, friendly service however the music was a terrible blend of try-hard dance-electro-lounge.

Great coffee, thumbs up to the two young chaps making them. Such a shame that they only have a limited breakfast menu with no eggs brekkie at all

Coffee not bad, although a mocha is 4.20 and a latte 3.80 which I think is a bit much for a bit of chocolate?! Had to wait a while for my take away because the guy making coffee was too busy chatting to someone. Hope to try again soon and be more impressed.

Amazing coffee - best long mac I've in ages. Great sandwiches. Not a great menu in terms of your typical breaky of eggs, bacon, mushrooms etc as they dont serve these things and must have a tiny kitchen due to limited ingredients on the menu. Still enjoyable though!

Cuuuuute! A gorgeous little out fit, ripe for frequent of kew mummas, who will no doubt visit in droves. My Thai chicken salad was a scant on the Thai but high on delicious, fresh, healthy goodness. Quick friendly service, reasonable prices and coffee supreme, you can't reply go wrong. Thumbs up!

FINALLY!. Locals have been waiting for this milk bar to turn into a cafe for a very long time. James and sister have done it well. Simple but delicious menu, smashed is great as is the mexican wrap. Coffee hits the mark also. Prices are reasonable. Service is friendly and always chatty. I have a feeling this little gem of a cafe will be a hit and have a need to expand very soon. Definitely recommend to all!

Next big hit.... Adeney looks set to be another popular, indie, retro, melbourne style cafe to land in Kew. Menu looks pretty standard (although no eggs...yet?)
Lovely cosy place whose size does not denounce it's atmosphere :)

A very charming little local. With fantastic coffee and a relaxed, communal vibe, I am more than happy to welcome Adeney into the city of Kew, and it seems like I'm not the only one!

However, for a light and quick option, Adeney Milk Bar does pretty darned well in my books.
