Review Milan @ Kew - Kew

Ratnesh Kumar Yadav
One of the best Indian cuisine in Kew and Kew east. All the dishes over here is very delicious, especially chicken kadhai and goat curry is my favourite one. All the staff members over here are very friendly.

Finally found a place where me and my family enjoyed having Authentic North Indian Punjabi taste that we used to miss, after coming Australia. Special thanks to the manager there Mr Happy, his humbleness and hospitality was cheering and delighted. 100% recommendable☺️
Parminder Singh
One of the best restaurant near to my area. All dishes are very delicious especially Dal Makhni & Kadai Paneer. All staff members are friendly in nature. I highly recommend everyone to visit once with your family.

Delicious food, genuine and caring service. Dine in for a very enjoyable meal. Generous portions, we always have something left over for the next day.

Great food and hospitality. one of the best Indian restaurants around Melbourne. Highly recommended👍👍
Le petit Prince
The food was stale, tasted bland and appeared not to be fresh. There is also a weird smell in the place. I think the management has changed?

Amazing Indian food! Enjoyed every dish Highly recommend this place!

Our favourite local takeaway Indian. Super friendly and kind owners, always arrives fresh and hot and always has a good depth of flavour to the curries. Saag paneer is my personal favourite, big chunks of paneer and a rich, creamy sauce, so good!
Lee Schmelich
Friendly and quick service, great Indian food
Puneet Babbar
Brilliant food with authentic flavours. Had good north-indian food after so long. The food was so close to home. Tried the tandoori starters platter, chicken curry, dal, paneer. Good food

Authentic Indian food, the Currys were nice and mango Lassi and mango ice cream were quite fresh, the owner/manager was super friendly and helpful, good neighborhood gem

This is definitely my local Indian restaurant. I have an Indian background so I’m quite picky when it comes to Indian food! It’s sort of hidden from most of the restaurants but I love this place. Although I do have to say that this restaurant is much better to dine in at. I have gotten takeaway a few times and it’s not bad but not as good as dining in.

Last night, we had the chicken tikka and seekh-kebab for entrees. The flavours were almost spot on. Just needed more chilli. They came out slightly warm and we told the waiter. He was so apologetic and went to give us a new batch, although we did say no to worry as we wouldn’t not have finished it.

The mains were just honestly delicious. Everything was hot and nothing to fault. The naans were also freshly made. It’s also a BYO wine restaurant (winning!). I also noticed for the first time that they have a breathalyser in case you wanted to check lol. Would definitely recommend this place when you want some comfort food!

I'm confused why this place has such high ratings. The food was nothing special, not terrible, but still nothing amazing. But the main thing I want to talk about is that I pride myself for having a stomach of steel, and this is the first ever place I've ever gotten food poisoning from. Definitely not worth the hours by the toilet vomiting after.

A nice restaurant with a friendly waiter. We came here because we saw the set menus on Zomato (beginning with $40.50 onwards) Unfortunately, that was not the case as we were told it only worked for takeaways. We were given the option to order takeaway instead but felt we had driven all the way to dine in, so opted for the latter... it turned out that we spent quite a bit more to dine in... Food-wise, the dishes were nice, however, there wasn’t anything special. Just the typical flavours. Ambiance wise, the restaurant is nice and spacious. The red walls helps to create a dark but warm atmosphere. The tables are set far apart allowing for that sense of intimacy. There is this one huge board on one side of the room, filled with lots of framed certificates and awards, obviously for this restaurant.

Super delicious food, great atmosphere and one of the best service I've had! They were super accommodating to my needs when I requested to have a vegetarian butter chicken. They replaced it with a generous serving of delicious vegetables. Not only that but when I asked to have it packed for take away the waitress came back with an extra serving of rice so I could enjoy it as a proper meal the next day. Would definitely go back just for the amazing service!

Used to love this place. Has changed owner, and quality has dropped sharply. Naan was more like flat bread soaked in some butter - used to be slightly charred and puffy, as if straight out of the tandoor. Butter chicken tasted far less fresh. Raita was sweeter and runnier. Won't be back.
MSG_Traveller
Good food, decent portions, friendly and polite service. The mixed tandoori platter, black pepper chicken and beef vindaloo were our favourites. Would like to have tried their kulfi but we were too full for dessert......maybe next time😊

been here twice and ordered to go once. not a big indian food eater but first experience here was great food. naan was very good, as was butter chicken and tikka masala. got samosa the 2nd time, didn't like it that much as was a hard shell, green sauce was good. staff are friendly

Great food and service! Quality and quantity were both great as was the friendly service! Highlight was the Daal in a pot - love the idea! Will definitely be back again!

Went there for dinner with a group of friends on a Saturday night. Plenty of greet parking, very convenient location. The service was very professional and courteous. The waiter explain the menu and recommended good quantity for the group of adults and children. All the dishes were very nice. For the ones that we requested to be not spicy, they still tasted great, all the kids enjoyed it too. The waiter came and asked several times if we needed anything which was nice of him. The toilets were very clean which was a good reflection of their cleanliness. It was an enjoyable dining experience.

Thali Curry for lunch?

Yes, pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Been there for years; we go for dinners but mostly lunches.

My favourite lunch place in Kew, whenever I feel the need for Thali Curry Lamb or Beef. It has Basmati rice, Papadum, Naan and a bit of Salad all for $13.50

Just can't go wrong with a glass of house Red Wines for about $17.00

Let's have more Thali shall we?

An absolute treat to have visited this place. Food was above average but what blew me over was the hospitality. The owner Cevellam an absolute gem of a person. I wonder why we never went there before 😊 look forward to more visits.
Two Bears And A Fork
Milan is a solid 'classic' suburban Indian restaurant. And when we say that we're referring to the fact they always tick the necessary boxes in order to garner repeat visits from us: good customer service, decent atmosphere, great food quality, bold flavours, and fair prices! Now, don't expect a hip & trendy fit-out or fusion style dishes presented with little flowers here. Expect old-school menu items served in classic Indian style bowls, all mostly with pretty solid flavours. On our last visit, we got the Banquet ($32.90/ea). Our entrees: The samosas, crunchy outer casings filled with robustly flavoured potato and peas - yum! The chicken tikka pieces were "good" said Hubby Bear (not fantastic, but good). For our mains, our server was super accommodating (we came in before the dinner rush) and let us swap the red meat dish for the Shahi Paneer (one of my all time fave veg dishes!!), and then let Hubby Bear pick an alternative to the Butter Chicken (he doesn't like his curries too sweet), which was the Chicken Tikka Masala - spiced just right and not too sweet - perfect! The third main was a Mixed Vegetable Curry, nothing to write home about but nice. The rice was standard (as you'd expect) and the naan bread was *very* good - thick enough to mop up the curries, but not too thick to glug you down, and they had a few crunchy bits here an there. The banquet comes with coffees and the Indian sweet Gulab Jamun (like a little hot doughnut doused with a watery syrup) and a classic pistachio kulfi (harder version of ice cream). If you haven't tried an Indian desert yet, this banquet is a great way to give it a go - that's if you're not too stuffed with food by the time it comes around!! Overall - great meal at a great price (add to the good banquet price, we used our Entertainment Guide voucher to get 25% off the entire bill! Check out my blog twobearsandafork.com if you want to find out how to get these sort of discounts!) Needless to say, we highly recommend Milan @ Kew! We might see you there

My wife promised to take me here for their special dish. And also because only a few people have ever finished it before. So here we are.

Sitting down I saw that 2016 marks 25yrs of business. Congratulation!!!

Before I continue, anyone who follows us would know that we LOVE Indian cuisine!!!

We started with some papadams and lamb seekh kebabs. The accompanying mint raita and tamarind sauce were brilliant. A perfect combination with the spice of the lamb.

Mains were next: an "Indian hot" beef vindaloo, chicken biriyani and the special lamb shank curry. Yes - 3 huge dishes for 2 people (we practically live in a gym and this is my bulking cycle). Oh - and a kashmiri naam too!

The beef was just incredible. Very spicy but also packed with flavour. This is usually really difficult so I was very impressed!!

The biriyani was filled with saffron and chicken. A great dish to cool the palate.

The lamb shank(s) were next level: 4 enormous shanks on the bone with plenty of vegetables. Definitely the stand out dish!!!

Now...if you've read my reviews, you'll find I'm a critique of the kashmiri naan - only because I've only ever had 1 that has-been filled with nuts and fruits. This is the 2nd and is well ahead of that first one. The best kadhmiri naan I've ever had.

Overall, 5 out of 5. I'm calling this as the best Indian I've had in Melbourne and Sydney.

Thanks Cellvam! Will be back again - we promise!!!

Food was good, not as authentic as i thought as i think the herb was not strong enough. But the owner was definitely put a lot of effort to welcome and talk to every guest that came and explaining about the menu. The pistachio kulfi was the big surprise of the day, it was so yummy, not too sweet and smooth!
Pam
Ok ish!. The starter was ok! IT WAS NOT TANDOORI CHICKEN! It wasn't even the colour tandoori chicken should be! And there were gristle bits! The manager said it wasn't meant to be tandoori it was meant to be tikka but it didn't alter the fact it was gristly! The mains were very nice and had good flavour and taste but the curries were watery due to the fact they had been microwaved from frozen. Lots of other people complain about the microwaved food and you can hear it beeping all the time. When I pay for fresh produced meals I expect to get fresh produced meals. The nan breads were really nice! The ice cream desserts were really nice! The staff were surly. I had to ask for water and when it came it was warm. I asked for ice and they brought a large piece on a plate and it didn't fit in the water bottle or my glass. I asked for lemon with my started and by the time the waiter came back I had finished and they didn't have any lemons! The wine was cheap and tart.

Good on ya Milan, and keep up the great work!
This restaurant is raised by easy-going men and a wise boss. I always drop in for a takeaway nearly every friday. The restaurant can teach kindergarteners what team-work shows. The butter chicken and roti is what I used to have (now that I am pescatarian I cannot) , It is very well presented and goes very tasty together. As soon as you enter the smell of cheesey-curry fills the air, with everyone flying to the kitchen sniffing the air. :)

A nice Indian meal in a pleasant environment with extremely friendly staff. The onion fritters for starters were a highlight. Congratulations on your 25th anniversary.

Bought a group voucher which is always a gamble, in this case a good one! Had an entree which i cant remember the name of, chicken Tikka and beef Rogan Josh. All wirh rice snd naan. Then followed by an Indian home made ice cream which was delicious! All the food was yummy and the service was the best I've had in ages. Very warm and helpful people!

The most amazing customer service we have experienced! The food is also completely delicious. We have been to a fair few Indian restaurants but this one is definitely one of our favourites!

Went to Milan @ Kew using Groupon Voucher for dinner and I highly recommend it. The service was excellent and the staff are very friendly. The food was delicious, well presented and has got perfect amount of spices. The banquet for 2 people was perfect! We had chicken tikka masala, lamb korma and vegetables dish with rice and nan. The starter was devine! We had 2 pcs of chicken tikka, salad and some fritters with yoghurt and date sauce. The mango ice cream was creamy, packed with flavor but not sweet. You can tell that everything that was served to us was fresh and home made.

Good ambience even on weekdays. I really enjoy my meal and experienced in there. There's no rush, the staff are friendly and attentive. The restaurant is clean and you feel good being there. I'm definitely coming back!

Six of us were there for the dinner. A very good Indian Resturant. Owner is very keen to provide a good service. Well done guys. We'll be back in a short time.

Can't complain about the service...very welcoming and friendly with a warm sprinkle of humour. The food however is ok...pleasant but no wow factor. But it's possible that living in the North has spoiled me for exceptional cuisine. Keep on truckin', Milan.
Iceman
Milan of Kew is by no means unpleasant with more than reasonable culinary offerings, but it borders on beige, almost vanilla which puts it well 'n' truly in the culinary abyss of Melbourne. Which begs the question would I return.......probably not.
Madolyn Harvey
We booked a table with the intention of using a Groupon voucher for dinner. The restaurant was mostly empty and we were showed to the table we had booked. We told the waiter that we had a Groupon voucher and made a booking. They told us our Groupon voucher wasn't valid because we hadn't booked the way they wanted us to book (we booked online). They said they had no space for us- although we had a table reserved...
The waiter was rude and said it was our "fault for not reading the fine print." Wasted our friday evening.
We have cancelled our voucher for here and won't be returning.

By far the best Indian restaurant in Melbourne. Absolute immaculate service, cleanliness, and delicious food! The butter chicken is to die for!
Highly recommended.
We always try to come here when we are back in the area, we used to come here regularly before we moved, and we were so delighted that the gentleman remembered us too!
SJFU
Impeccable service and food. The servers were all friendly and warm, especially the delightful owner. The food was divine. I recommend all of the chicken dishes, especially the butter chicken which was smoked to perfection and drenched in a faultless tangy sauce. Every dish in the banquet had our mouths watering. I think the effort the owner puts into the whole dining experience really pays off, and it was noticed and appreciated by all of us.
Christine Untario
The restaurant certainly has a lovely atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly, making the dining experience an exceptional one. The food was full of flavour! Definitely would recommend this place

Bought a Groupon for Milan and so glad we did! Cellvam and his staff were so lovely and I've never had a lamb dish I enjoyed until I tried the korma here. A truly fantastic experience. We'll definitely be back!

Great food! Friendly staff!. Came on a busy Friday night. Ordered the banquet and wasn't disappointed. Great food and great flavours. One of the best Butter Chicken dishes going.

A local gem.

MIlan@Kew-Really nice food and very hospitable staff!. Great Food and great service.
I must appreciate the warm hospitality and food was awesome, tasted really great. Authentic Indian flavor and quantity was really fulfilling. Love Samosa in entree. mains and dessert was awesome as well.Very fulfilling quantity and will definitely visit again!
Two Bears And A Fork
Yes, our mains were indeed brilliant, but everything else food-wise was average to below average; and I'm not sure that's strong enough for us to go back again...
James Glanvill
Absolutely fantastic! Food was faultless. Chicken Korma was to die for! Service was friendly and prompt. Shows what 25 years experience brings to the table!
Chloep63
Great authentic indian food! We went here on a groupon deal that allowed us two banquets which left us with very full stomachs! The food was beautiful and full of flavor. The owner was very welcoming and you could feel the love he had for the restaurant. Would highly recommend Milan @ Kew. Thankyou for a lovely evening and we will be back!

A Lovely Evening of Indian Dining. I had a great night celebrating with my boyfriend for his 30th birthday at Milan Kew. We walked in with a bottle of red wine and an open mind for a nice traditional Indian meal without the hustle n' bustle of being in the city. The customer service was warm, friendly and genuine. The turnaround time for our food was great and he quality of the food and dishes was superb. I highly recommend the Lamb Saagwala (medium) and the Chef's Special of Prawn Masala (medium) with coconut rice and garlic naan bread. Overall we were both impressed with such a lovely dining experience in a quaint little restaurant in Kew. I would highly recommend dining here for wonderful service, delicious food and great value for money. We look forward to returning again soon! Note: I would recommend booking, the restaurant was almost full by 7:30 (we booked at table at 6:30pm). Enjoy!

We stopped by this fantastic little restaurant after being stuck in traffic for an hour, and it was a wonderful oasis of calm. The service was right up there with the friendliest I have ever experienced, and the owner even took time to make some jokes and have a laugh with our three year old. We had the banquet, which was good value even before the 25% entertainment book discount. The food we had was very good, although nothing spectacularly different to other similar suburban Indian restaurants. However, the friendliness and ambience of this restaurant will ensure we come back!

Such a rude owner! After be.... Such a rude owner!
After being a customer for a long time, tonight I called to complain that I was sent the wrong curry and that the rice had such a poor quality that LOOKED LIKE left over. The owner started shouting at me. As I commented the fact that I was a woman didn't mean he could raise his voice, he said he had so many women screaming at him in his personal life! There was no apology...they offered a 50% refund after I insisted they had to compensate...

Sir,your behavior was far from etiquette, no matter for how long you have been in the industry.... you still have a lot to learn. And if you have problems in your life, I am sorry for you...but still you can't scream at me.
Ogormagm
EXPENSIVE. Wayyy to expensive wasnt worth the dosh
never returning
Demeter
These place can change like the wind but as it stands, it's very good.
Catherine
Quite pricey compared to some Indian restaurants but we had a shop a docket voucher for buy one main get one free. Really lovely curry not swimming in oil - great salad and good Naan. Staff were really friendly and sweet and happy to let us take a doggy bag home. We'll be back!

Great take away!. Had ordered take away dinner from Milan @ Kew and was very happy with the online ordering process, confirmation, speed of food preparation and finally the quality and quantity of the food. Would order from them again. A healthy alternative to Pizza etc
MyMunchings
Best Indian!. I've eaten at a lot of Indian restaurants. I like the cuisine. I've had some really bad experiences where the tiny metal bowl is mostly full of tasteless thick sauce and little meat and little or no veg - and it cost a fortune.

Then I found Milan @ Kew. Big bowls. GREAT tasting curries. Very very good serves of meat and vegetables in the curries. 99% of their menu is gluten free too which I love.

I cannot stop raving about this place to friends and family. I have finally found my favourite.
Hawkey
I ordered the goat curry special. Speechless. It was so flavoursome. They had chunks of goat as well as the bones which I secretly sucked the flavour off. So friendly as well!
Fiskiddy
Amazing food, very authentic. A little pricey for Indian though; which I'm afraid will impact my decision to go back.

Microwave surprise. My children and I have been to Milan a few times. Recently we visited on a weekday evening and found the place empty.
The owner welcomed us, then left for the evening.
Multiple deliveries were being made through the front door, and staff seemed very distracted.
But the biggest surprise at this fairly pricey suburban restaurant was the very obvious way the meals were being prepared.
Like the phone orders, our order was taken from the freezer (in full view), put in a microwave (in full view), then plated and served.
When I asked the waitress if the food was being prepared in the kitchen, she agreed.
When I asked about the microwave, she tried to explain that the food had been cooked a few days before, but was being "prepared" in the kitchen once microwaved.
The food tasted OK, but I felt cheated by this discovery. Would others expect restaurant food to be pre-cooked days before then heated in a microwave???
Sandy
Expensive but flavorful. The food we ordered was quite good with a good mix of fresh spices, paneer was soft and tasty.

We enjoyed the food but found it to be bit costly. The service was quite ordinary though.
Tpg
Dinner February 2013. I have been a regular at Milan for over 10 years, however it seems that since the renovation prices have increased out of proportion with any improvement in ambience or food quality. I found the chicken Tikka (entree) had a rough fried external texture and was dry quite. The vegetable korma $14.90 was very ordinary - small selection of standard soft kitchen veges. Unremarkable flavour.
I ordered and was charged for Landauer piccolo at $11.90 and was served Henkell which I purchase for about $4. No mention of a substitute label was made at the time.
So, sadly I will not be returning.
ServiceMatters
The food was nice, but there was a 50min wait after we expressed to the waiter that we were in a hurry to catch a show soon. It wasn't a busy night and people who ordered take away over the counter got their meals before us. Disappointed as we missed our show; we would have left if we weren't so hungry.
Hemen Parmar
Excellent Food with Great Service. It is a small restaurant but has a big variety of food. More over its a very clean restaurant and cater to your requirements. When you say mild curry its mild and when you say hot its hot. Perfect to your taste.
We went with a group of 8 people and everybody was looked after very well. The staff were very courteous and fantastic, nothing was too much trouble for them and they were all very professional.
An absolute go for any of your parties.
Bernie
Great Indian Food!. Went to Milan @ Kew last Friday night and was immediately impressed by the layout of the restaurant, felt very comfortable and the aromas coming from the kitchen were sensational! Really recommend the authentic Indian cuisine we had, great prices, very tasty curries, I give Milan @ Kew a 10/10! Excellent customer service also :) Cheers
BlueberryHill
Good food, you get what you pay for. This restaurant is slighly higher priced than a lot of others similar but it's reflected in the quality of the food. Seriously yum and a few different offerings from the average. Would happily go back. Service really friendly and the owner is a joy. Lots of returning customers ... always a good sign.
Scrumpch
Totally NAF! I placed a delivery order at 6:20pm, was told food would arrive within 45 minutes (and I only live a seven minute drive from restaurant)... At 7:40 I rang to see what was taking so long and was told the driver had already left with our meal. He arrived at 8pm!
The food was stone cold and over priced.
Alledgedly this is an award winning restaurant (if take away menus are to be believed).
The chicken used was of poor quality and the raita was watery and really disappointing.
Perhaps this restaurant is better for dining in - however I have no interest in being a repeat customer!
Manpreet
Good food, highly priced. We went there on a Easter sunday and the food was nice. slightly westernised food with not too many spices but still very nice. Service was lovely (well we were the only ones there that night) lol. It is highly priced but considering it's in Kew, thats probably average for them. All in all good, would i go back- yah if i'm in the area.
Vishal
Average Meal - but at highly priced Menu. Very-2 Average Indian food at high price. Me and my wife went there and had this Ouffer voucher thingy.

Service: 2.5 stars
Food: 1.5 stars
Ambience: 2 stars
Will I eat there again: No

We ordered: Vegetable Curry (priced about $22.00) and Malai Kofta (priced around $15)
Some Roti, Naan, Masala Kulcha and Rice

The Vegetable Curry - at an exorbitant price was only filled with frozen or overly cooked vegetables mostly potatoes and served in an average looking bowl and Malai kofta came in an tiny bowl with 3 pieces of kofta. Taste was very-very average, you have to justify what you are paying an exorbitant price for? Masala Kulcha was sheet Naan bread with the Masala missing. Is that what I ordered?
Jaggery
Good food good service. The newlly refurbished restuarant is excellent and was very impressed with simple decor but good service and tasty food.
Lisa
Had a great meal at milan@kew.. Bought a groupon coupon . Worth every penny, would go here again the food was first class and the service was good too.. Was made welcome as soon as we walked thru the door
Dee
Seriously the best indian we have had in melbourne so far. You can tell they have a proper tandoor oven with coals. Food was beautiful and spicy. Not like the usual generic curry. And very good service. Not cheap but worth it!
Kate
Disappointed. My hubby and I wanted a night in with takeaway- decent take away.

We heard a lot about this place but we were totally disappointed. Food was very average- not worth the high price. Also when our food was delivered we felt rude asking for our change...

Won't be trying this place again
Simone
Great Indian restaurant. Incredible flavours. Lovely service. Kid friendly. Not cheap but worth every sent. Will be going back again soon.
Allison
Good enough to feed us at 10pm when they were about to shut. Food was great (especially fresh hot naan), also had aloo mutter, lamb korma, tandoori chicken and beef masala. Looking forward to going back for a less rushed proper dinner next time!
Bruce
Very ordinary. Samosa's were uncooked on the inside of the casing & the fish in the Goan curry was flavorless, watery & obviously frozen. Sad
